We went for the Adventure Destagucio set menu and it was so well lined up and delicately presented, I think it's a perfect course for a date night or a night to truly enjoy wine and sophisticated food. Every dish had a burst of taste but I really enjoyed the clam tart that had a mix texture of soft tart and chewy clam. The most delightful🤌🏻🤌🏻 Also the wine pairing was AMAZING It really enriches the food and elevates the taste of the ingredients. Hundred percent worth it! We had the pleasure of dining at Parlar a few nights ago and it was some of the tastiest food I've ever had. We went with the Adventure Degustacio which is the larger of the two tasting menus along with the classic wine pairing. Interestingly it's made up entirely of Spanish wines beautifully paired with each course. From the starters to the dessert everything was lovely, it's difficult to pick a favourite because each course was impeccable but the Coral Trout with Ajo Blanco and the Black Rice with crab, prawns and squid certainly stood out. Everything was bursting with flavour and the plating was intricate and creative, inspired by some of the artworks on the wall. The ambiance is spot on, the venue is cosy but not cramped, and the service from Waldeck and Lucas was excellent. Will be recommending this hidden gem to all of our friends for sure.

Spent thousands of dollars here (250+ per person) at a Christmas event, having been here before when the menu was a la carte. Extremely slow kitchen and absolutely inadequate amounts of food. Some guests literally had to leave because food took too long and most of us went for additional food afterwards. Overall food quality plus atmosphere good. Service and kitchen timing and amount of food not good. Unfortunately: do not recommend.

Great Fitout. That s about all there is to this place. As mentioned by other reviewers, this place felt like a total scam. Spent 3 hours in total there, mostly waiting for the food which was very subpar. My partner had to run to the bathroom twice after biting on stale octopus and a stale almond. Floor staff were very disorganised, running around in a stressful manner. Kitchen is tiny. As with some of the reviews below, felt like a total scam.

Highly Recommend: PARLAR RESTAURANT Cuisine: Spanish Delights Food: 9/10 Service: 9/10 Ambiance: 10/10 During my recent birthday celebration, I discovered PARLAR RESTAURANT in Sydney, a stunning Spanish restaurant that truly impressed me. Despite my usual reservations about Western cuisine, this experience has certainly changed my perspective. The dishes here are generously portioned, and even though there are set menus available, we opted for à la carte, resulting in a thoroughly satisfying experience. I must mention that the caviar dish was decent, but I found it to be somewhat lacking considering the price. The restaurant thoughtfully provided a welcome dish and a birthday cake, and every dish was flavorful, especially the one depicted in image 3. It had a delightful sweetness without being overwhelming, and the cold appetizer was refreshing. As for images 5/7, while they are signature dishes, I would recommend skipping the baby octopus, but the black rice is truly unique, appetizing, and leaves you wanting more. The restaurant s ambiance is romantically appealing, perfect for both dates and gatherings. There s also a beautiful little bar inside, making it an excellent choice for those who enjoy fine beverages. The only drawback is the challenging parking situation, but overall, this dining experience deserves a perfect score .

Had a celebration dinner here on a Sunday night and was looking forward to visiting, having heard so much about Parlar. Service was attentive and the interior is very well decorated, glam. The textile artworks are very modern Spanish. The food was ok- a bit hit and miss. The tortilla with crab was a little unpleasant in that the egg was overcooked and took away from the flavour of the crab. The fideua was interesting and reminiscent of Spanish fideua. The octopus was again, somewhat reminiscent of Spanish pulpo but you wouldnt have that sauce/ broth in Spain. Having travelled in Spain extensively and being regular visitors to Catalunya, its a pleasant surprise to see a Catalan restaurant in Sydney. A shame that the food doesnt quite take us there. Good to visit once but I wont be back.

Theres that vision you may have of a chef saying I wouldnt feed this to a cat!. Not being literal about parler with that comment, but it goes to our view of chefs being irrationally picky about what they use and what they serve. Thing is at $100pp for food places, that is actually how picky you want the chef to be...they speak for us, the punter. Here, there were so many instances of food getting past the pass, that really shouldnt. The extreme examples were the tomatoes and the kingfish. The tomatoes were as mealy as butter cake, obviously so to the eye. The kingfish, uneasily fragrant, looked the part, but couldnt act, with a texture more akin to octopus...theres technical fish butchery stuff there, but Ill spare you a lecture. Apart from the kingfish, none of these dishes were shareable. Worst part is that they could easily be prepared in such a way to be so. Take the elegant looking asparagus tart. Insipid is not a word used to describe Catalan food, but this model was all show...try splitting this in half let alone quarters...the solution is to make the tart a full small round portion size. Its a lot more labour, and requires adjustment of pastry to filling, but it would be shareable. The desserts left us as sad as a vegan in a butcher. Lacklustre in every regard, with not thought to dimension, apart from a very tasty cocoa cream for the pancake cake....again, as shareable as one lychee. The service was plentiful but haphazard. So often we were approached to answer the same question as the last attendee. All very friendly...zero teamwork. The $205 albarino, well recommended was easily the highlight. Im fine with the prices here. This menu can justify these prices. They need to get serious about the abboyeur role, and the relationship with suppliers.

Food is flavourful, but portions are small and prices are - in my view - inappropriately high for the service and setting. For the cost id expect a fine dining experience, and while enjoyable, Id describe this as a relaxed setting (and service). The seafood platter was expensive (220), portions small (e.g. one scampi each) and underwhelming in taste. Our meals werent well timed with other people in the party finishing all their meals well before others. Nice food but I cant justify that cost and wouldnt go again

Like Franca, the interior is very aesthetic and welcoming. Parlar was definitely abit more intimate with the lighting and smaller tables. The menu was quite unique and we were excited to try as much as we possibly could. Pan Tomate & Pan Gilda: my favourite bites of the night King fish crudo: perfect balance of freshness, saltiness and acidity. Spanner crab ommelete: the creamiest egg. However abit lacking in crab taste. Escalivada & manchego Vol-au- vent: basically a party filled with vegetables. So flavourful and satisfying Veal rib eye : the star of the show Complimentary cake : basque cheese cake Tarta de Santiago, buttermilk, lemon: 10/10 perfect way to finish the meal Approx $300 for 2 including drinks. Definitely the highlight dining experience of the year so far ( even though its only Feb). Excited to come back and try the other dishes and would definitely reccomend!

I visited Parlar on a Friday evening with a group of friends, after many months of anticipation, having seen it described as a hot new restaurant with Catalan cuisine. Initial impressions were promising as the fit out was sophisticated and the servers were prompt to deliver our cocktails. Things started to go awry when it came to deciphering the written menu and the elusive spoken specials. It s not a traditional a la carte set up where you order individual dishes as needed. The structure is you can select 2 courses for $110 or 3 courses for $130. The majority of our group felt confident to rely on two courses and proceeded to consider our orders. This would all become confused when the waitress spoke about the rib eye special they were offering, which was the supposed equivalent of swapping out two mains. We proceeded to ask many questions about the price of this special, how many other dishes that would be served with, and whether it was indeed the equivalent of having two courses but with two people sharing a main. In the end, we decided to proceed with caution, and simply rely on the written offerings. We began to order, and after hearing a few people were ordering a standard steak dish, the waitress again impressed would you like to just share the special rib eye? . At this point we were decision-fatigued and simply decided to trust that the waitress was guiding us towards the most sensible option. The food came out and it was relatively decent. There are skilled chefs working here and they are serving good ingredients. That being said, the portions did feel small, and the amount of those quality ingredients within the meal (such as the crab omelette) is questionable. The biggest disappointment of the night came to the bill being served up and learning that the rib eye was not simply the equivalent of swapping out two mains but rather an additional $85 dollars per person, with four in the group having made this decision. I felt incredibly misled by the front of house staff and that they may have intentionally abused our confusion to make considerate up-sells. The compromise that was reached in the end was the removal of one item off the final bill, or a mere $46 dollars when they had successfully upsold us by $340 dollars. I have some constructive feedback for this restaurant and hope they choose to implement some of it. 1. Have your specials written down on some paper to transparently communicate the price difference. If you are trying to be eco-conscious, some kind of communal signboard will suffice. 2. If you choose to continue to simply speak your specials, make it very clear what the cost is, and if you are going to compare it with your regular menu, know and communicate the price difference (e.g. for $80 dollars more per person, you could have the rib eye we are offering tonight rather than the individual steak dish) 3. If you sense your customers are confused, guide them towards a decision that will best serve them, both in terms of a satisfactory dining experience, as well as a customer service experience. I imagine don t want to feel misled and will not return after experiences such as these. I certainly won t.

For the price you pay approx $200pp with drinks and a set menu - you would expect a fine dining experience but unfortunately you are set with a more relaxed feel to this restaurant. The mains were great and presented beautifully however the only minor detail was the baby octopus was slightly overcooked and rubbery but at least the sauce was delicious and helped mask the texture. The entrees were standard however highlight had to be the heirloom tomatoes with stracciatella and hazelnuts - well rounded entree with a touch of creaminess and crunch, only missing a little bit of salt in my opinion. pricing needs to be discussed as the venue did not meet up to the standards $$$ institution.

TBH: I left this restaurant feeling as though i had been scammed. There was nothing about this place that felt indicative of the prices that i paid. There was nothing about this restaurant that incited i would be paying such high prices. After talking to a few locals they all agreed with me It is a Total Scam but some of them still go and some do not. I just think, What ever you can do to minimise that feeling on the unsuspecting visitor would probably serve the business well. EDIT: i cant figure out how to respond to the below response. because they didnt leave an email. But i ordered three glasses of wine and the crab paella and it was close to 150 bucks. I asked for the house wine and it was above 25. Than the bar offered me a finisher which was also costed. 89 set menu is fine. But that was not the experience i was looking for. I was a casual dinner. Which should be apart of your business expectation.

Service was very mediocre, not friendly even, and didnt match the overall vibe of the place. The decor was so beautiful and the food was delicious and creative. You can tell a lot of care was put into it, and all the flavours in combination work together so well. I recommend the zucchini tart, cornbread, octopus (had hazelnut, almonds and potatoes that work so well together) and the black rice! Wouldve given 5 stars if not for the service.

Had the degustation here for 2 plus a few additional plates + drinks. Ambience and decor was beautiful. Forgot our booking was for 2 hours but they were able to move us to the outdoor seating to finish our desserts. The steak and cheesecakes were delish. Looking at the the serving sizes and space, this is better catered to an intimate dining experience between 2-4 people. We left feeling full and satisfied but should flag that we added a couple more dishes to the degustation as recommended by the waitress.

I enjoyed Parlar for its pleasant and calming atmosphere, offering a cozy and fancy ambiance without the overly formal vibe of fine dining. the seating arrangement felt a bit crowded and the tables were on the smaller side though. Food were above average. the beautifully cooked crab omelette and cod stood out in terms of taste. While the iberico was slightly dry. the presentation of the dishes was good though, very tidy and the service was excellent. Overall, my experience at Parlar was solid ($115 pp no drinks)

Rudeness of maitre de astounding. Made a booking, arrived 10 minutes early, asked to wait outside in freezing cold with a heater that hardly heats. My partner was dressed for inside, they had no blankets. At booking time we returned inside, he told us the table inside wasnt ready, we had to go outside again.. We asked to wait inside, he said no. A spare table apparently couldnt be used because they were waiting for someone else. When we said it was too cold to wait outside, he shrugged his shoulders. Unbelievable!!! We left immediately of course. Will never go back there, and spreading the word around Potts point.

I wanted to love Parlar and theres no doubt this is one stylish, beautiful restaurant and bar producing good looking food. The service was also good, if not exceptional. The main problem for me - the prices were just scandalous for the size of the portion and the flavour of the food! We initially ordered about 120 dollars of food for the two of us and were told we should order more as we had basically only chosen a few little bites and one main course! Thats a separate issue, the menu is all written in Catalan with no translation and even with a Spanish speaker at the table we struggled to interpret everything... We increased our order and ended up with enough food to fill us, but with the exception of a lovely tuna dish there was nothing that tasted so exceptional that it would justify the $250 plus wine bill we received. The fideura marinera (seafood pasta paella) was like a small plate of overdone super-noodles with a few tiny chunks of fish and cost a ludicrous $44. I wouldnt dismiss this place for a special, romantic meal, but for me tapas should be a slightly more casual and affordable affair and Ive had much more satisfying tapas for a third of the price.

The food was well presented, with the price to match.This is where the fine dining experience stops, for example a take on gilda in a sandwich form did not resemble gilda in taste or texture merely an ensemble of ingredients. Chapeau bas to the chef- the food was really delicious. Portions are tiny but as I am not a big eater they were perfect for me. The staff however was constantly trying to convince me that I really need to order more even after saying that we can always add something if needed. I had some mixed feelings about the staff and their service- some of them were lovely, some pretentious and actually quite unpleasant. As for the food: Pan Tomate and a fish, which I think was a cod served in a delicious buttery sauce were probably my favourite dishes plus my friend loved the Kingfish. I also really enjoyed the Macadamia & Strawberries dessert, I would not order a Crema Catalana again though- it had a funny aftertaste. To sum up- it s a beautiful restaurant, perfect for a date the fit out is incredible and that was the main reason I decided to make a booking.

Always a fans of Spanish food. This new restaurant in town has quite a good spread of tapes. Gilda toast is my favourite of the night! Goes well with their Spanish wine. The bacalao croquette with caviar is pretty good as well except it is quite pricey. Another highlight is their Wagyu sirloin, literally melt in your mood. The chilli on top adds a nice kick and keep you non stop eating ! Overall a very pleasant meal and would quite an extensive wine list and tapes for sharing.

Unfortunately our greatly anticipated dinner booked weeks in advance for 8.30 on a Friday evening ended abruptly and with huge disapointment. Flashy venue with gorgeous Catalonian inspired art fits perfectly in theme. Hard surfaces everywhere make this a loud shouty restaurant which some may find exciting others not. Very clever tweezer assembled creative riffs on Spanish classic tapas were impressive. However after our pre dinner drinks, a couple of those tapas, a consult with the sommelier we were ready to order mains (9.30) oh sorry the kitchens closed youre joking No not joking, real. What about a little word, just in case you were thinking maybe something along those lines perhaps? So there you have it, smart space, smart food, not smart service. Anticipation, proffesionalism, caring, absent. Pre dinner drinks were compted but we had to race out to get a main course round the corner at another local diner which was chock a block but we were welcomed with friendly open arms. So refreshing. Undoubtedly you could have a better experience than ours at this restaurant, but book early and look out for yourself because possibly no one else will. Sadly disapointed.

Firstly this restaurant has a beautiful ambience and the food was lovely. We had a terrific waitress but I will not be returning to Parlour because of the rude service from of the Maitre D who insisted on telling us 4 times that we had to leave by 8pm! He also hovered around annoyingly! It really did ruin bring down the mood and the experience which is not inexpensive (portions are small and I left hungry). Restaurants that are pitching themselves at this level need to create a 15 min buffer for the next sitting. I see so many restaurants handling this issue so much better. I never usually post reviews but feel so strongly about having the payment machine shoved in front of my face and ushered out the door! I won t be booking here again.

While not looking like much from the outside, the second you step round the drapes into Parlar and see framed reproductions of Alexander Calder tapestries on the walls, it s apparent you re eating somewhere special. This American artist is most famous for inventing suspended moving (kinetic) sculptures, and was commissioned by Harry Seidler for a piece in Australia Square. To keep the art as the focus of the room, tiny lamps cast a soft orange glow into marble tables. They re surrounded by retro chairs a nice departure from the austere Scandinavian ones dominating Sydney. Clever use of darkened mirrors and banquettes in camel and burnt orange open up the otherwise small 55-seater room. Beyond the decor the lure is Catalonian cooking and thematic cocktails. The Catalan Sour ($24) teams Tanqueray gin with jalapeño syrup, green apple, elderflower and cucumber for a refined and enjoyable palate cleanser against Gilda toast ($16/each) where salty anchovies meet bitter olive and tangy green loops of pickled guindilla chillies. Sherry, saffron and cinnamon mingle with Johnny Walker Black to make the Alcazar Cobbler ($24) an all-up delicious cocktail. Try it against the slightly less exciting Olasagasti anchovy churros ($15/each). The sturgeon caviar topped bacalao croquette ($29/each) is good but I winced at the price. To avoid going broke eating tapas, skip over the chorizo egg and manchego muffin ($16/each) as, while tasty, it s something you could make at home. Against a menu cheapie, an Albariño ($66) from Rías Baixas we enjoy pork neck ($48) with a green broccolini and underlying purée in a gentle jamon Iberico sauce. It s eclipsed by a vivid orange-topped torched kingfish dish ($36) presented in an eye-catching lake of smoked tomato with tiny dabs of caviar balancing the fruit. It s so good we throw in cornbread ($10) to mop it up, not wanting to waste even the tiniest highly-priced mouthful.

Booked a table 5 weeks in advance. Upon arrival I had to wait with my 3 guests outside under the heater for 30 minutes. The waiting staff were efficient and tried to make up for the delay in our table. The restaurant is dim lighted and very noisy from the hard services reverberating the busy restaurant. Upon ordering we found that five items that were listed on the menu were unavailable which was disappointing as we wanted to try them. I find this odd as it was a Saturday night.. food standard was good. A group of four guests were seated next to our table, however the table only fitted two guests and they had to squeeze into the banquette next to our table. They were young, loud and doing shots all night with the waiting staff at the table. Not sure management have the restaurant running at its potential. The staff and ambience was great. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, however, the food not so much. For the price youre paying it doesnt justify the quality of food. Dont get me wrong it looked amazing however the taste not so much. Some dishes such as the anchovies with creme fraiche just did not work. The kingfish was practically drenched in a plate of olive oil and lacked anything to compliment the kingfish. The octopus dish was overcooked and rubbery. Such an unpleasant experience. My friends and I were so excited to have a great afternoon/noon at Parlar; everything started well. We ordered some Drinks and food, and after 2 hours we were invited to leave our table (totally understandable as the booking says it was for 2hrs) my friend questioned that a couple of dishes were never delivered to our table and the hostess said he didnt order them since we did not have time to eat them since the booking was for 2 hours only, he never told us that the dishes weren t ordered, we left the restaurant hungry and had to go somewhere else to finish our dinner. The food was average: so disappointing. To be honest I wouldnt come back. * Editing something that I just remember at the dinner, my friend does not eat rare meat, she (my friend) asked for the waitress to get a piece of the meat well done, and the waitress simply asked; do you want me To take it with my hands? That was so rude. Even though the atmosphere/ decor is cool, I would never recommend this place. The worst service.
