The server was very friendly and we didn't have to wait long to get served what we ordered.
The Pad Thai was delicious. We all had something different and all enjoyed our meals. I also tried the spring rolls which were tasty. Service was a bit slow but food was smokin hot and fresh.
Expensive for what you get. And the food is terrible. I ordered the green curry - literally a dish that is hard to mess up. Well. It was hands down the worst green curry I have ever had. Thin broth soup with some bamboo shoots, a ton of bell peppers and some tough, stringy beef. Flavors not blended, no spice at all, not thickened. Had hoped the new chef would = better food. Sorely disappointed.
We ordered satay, kao soi, and green curry to go. Unfortunately, the chicken satay was too dry, and the other dishes were only average in flavor. However, the portions were generous and matched the prices. The two of us were able to finish everything over the course of two meals.
Dined here close to closing time. Service was slow, and the kitchen was running behind, but overall, the service was OK. The food was average. The shrimp dumplings to start were delicious and texture was perfect. The beef fried rice was Ok. The rice noodles with seafood (Shrimp, cod, mussels and octopus) lacked flavor and the seafood a bit over cooked.
A really nice meal at this older established Thai place in Prince George. A wide range of top quality dishes as you would find at a Thai restaurant in bigger cities and in Thailand itself. I had the Pad Thai Jae which was done perfectly. A nice large portion size (bigger than the photo makes it appear) neatly presented, and really delicious. They do lots of takeout so clearly a PG favourite and the eat-in atmosphere was comfortable and decent.
Wonderful Thai restaurant. Delicious food and very friendly people. I've traveled extensively in Thailand and Mai Thai is just about as authentic as you're going to get without crossing the Pacific. Ask them to make it "Thai hot" and they'll lay the heat on you 🥵 (which I very much appreciate!).
Big Shout to Mai Thai Restaurant for the amazing birthday dinner!! We forgot to call yesterday for the large order, however they were amazing and were able to prepare the meal for the time we needed it for. Everything was so delicious! If you haven’t tried their food yet, it is a must try in town. Hands down my favourite place to eat here in PG
Spring rolls were amazing. Lettuce Wraps were delicious and a huge serving. Nice Thai restaurant. Will be back for sure.
Delicios. Closes at times during the day
Having just been in Thailand for a month, coming here was a treat to reminisce on the best part of the trip, the food! They have a northern Thai dish - khao soi, which not many Thai restaurants serve, highly recommended!! Food
This restaurant is a new favorite of mine. The pad thai was flavorful and satisfying, and the ambiance was inviting. The crew was super friendly, making the whole meal enjoyable.
My Mom and I had the Pad Thai soup today for lunch. Service was great and food was very flavorful!
Amazing food, great service. I have never been let down once.
Extremely rude staff. Didnt even eat cancelled our order right away.
I have been coming here for over 15 years. Mai Thai was always amazing and still is! Cashew Nut Chicken and Massaman Curry are legendary!
Lovely atmosphere, it was great to have the owner serve and chat us up. Our meals were great and flavours bold, would definitely recommend.
Found a hidden gem in Prince George. Loved the food. Authentic Thai taste, food was served hot and serving size is decent. Great guest experience. The lady owner is kind and very accommodating. Will definitely come back..
These prices are ridiculous compared to the Thai restaurants in Victoria, Wow!!
This place is consistently amazing. The food is piping hot, tastes so fresh, and never fails to bring us back for more. It makes me sad to see this place be anything other than pack with patrons. The owners are lovely, the food is so so good. It may not be the fanciest restaurant in town (it still has nice ambience), but the food is hands down some of the best overall!
Love their chicken pad thai
Craved for Thai food after a day s work and saw this restaurant closing late so I head to their store immediately. Ordered for Pad Thai and it looks good at first but I noticed I was not asked for chicken, beef or shrimp. Been eating pad thai for many times and this is the first time I encountered that I was not asked for whay meat I want for my food. Not only that, the menu doesn t have most of what s in their food. Some were missing like bean sprouts and green onion which makes it unauthentic even if they declare that their cook is from Thailand. Saddest part was the price. It was not worth paying $23 for my food. I feel I was ripped off. Sorry being honest. That was my experience there.
Showed up an hour before closing and was only offered the ability to order takeout and that was after 5 minutes of waiting because we were hoping to be seated. As someone with a lot of experience in restaurants this is unprofessional and disrespectful
What more can I say, I love this place! It s my favourite restaurant in PG! Whenever I have to travel to PG, I make sure to come here. Authentic Thai food with fresh herbs and super sweet owners!:)
Authentic Thai food. Very good. Friendly and local. Juat a word of advice, ask for the spice dish. Make your food as spicy as you want it. .
Passing through town and went here for dinner. The food was fantastic, service was super friendly and there was loads of interesting things on the walls for the kids to see. Parking: Parked right out front of the restaurant. Theres lots of street parking around so should never have to park too far away
Best thai in northern bc
Paid $25 for a single order of chicken pad thai. The container wasn t even full. 0/10. Don t waste your time here.
Absolute authentic Thai. If you like Thai food then it s a must visit place.
The food was so good! The older gentleman who ran the place was so friendly. Loved all the art. Will return!
Good experience, a bit pricey but the service was great (nice family) and the food was good. Overall would come again.
Clean restaurant. Pad Thai was very one-note. It lacked the Thai party in the mouth flavours. Plenty of peanuts but still needs a couple lime wedges, scrambled egg, tofu, some tamarind in the sauce, and a finish of fresh herbs & veggies. Mine consisted of only noodles, chicken, and bean sprouts. $24
This restaurant was delightful! The service was prompt and all of the food was delicious the desert was the real show stopper.
Food was fantastic!! Service was prompt and extremely helpful. Cozy place where it doesnt feel super open or too isolated.
This is a restaurant which I would love to recommend to visit. Food was so delicious and the portion sizes were just perfect . Thank you all who works there. Food : 5/5
Best place to eat in Pg!
If i could give a lower rating than 1 star i would! Walked and wanted to sit and have a meal, after not seeing a soul, called out and asked if it was ok to sit and have dinner. To then be spoken to rudely by an older Canadian man who response was not for an hour (like i said we did not see a soul, workers or anyone sitting down to eat in) We then asked what he meant are they closed and then responds was just as rude as our frist yup we are busy my hubs then asked ummm with take out? Answer one word yup..... um ok we then left and some odd comment was made about my husbands accent, a lame attempt at humor?? Never going back. Not what you want after driving 13 hours today.
The lowest quality thai food below street food, watery with least amount of curry paste and coconut cream or probably no coconut cream. Thai woman of low class, demeanor and rude uneducated manner. If you ask for something custom she will make it opposite, intentionally?... Pls someone open a thai restaurant in PG with real restaurant quality thai food, you will get our business. These jokers have even started charging for rice. Any street food in Thailand if equally watery at least made with love. This restaurant degrades thai food.
Great food, great staff, great value. My usual is the green curry. My meat choice changes with mood. The cashew chicken is another recommendable option!
I went with my family and one other family was going to join us. We were ignored when we entered but found a seat that could accommodate us. We stood at the table for a few minutes hoping the gentleman at the counter would acknowledge us. He did not, so we decided to sit in hopes we would be brought menus. As soon as we went to sit he looked up and said cant sit there. After finally being acknowledged I said good evening, we are just looking for a table for us and another family. He replied no way, without any indication as to why it would be a problem. There was another family eating at another table, so his blunt hostility made little sense. I replied that is fine, we will find another place to eat, and we walked out. It is unlikely I will ever support this business or recommend it to anyone after this extremely rude encounter.
Worst customer service ever; the gentlemen that unwelcome us looked annoyed that we were interrupting him.
Not the most authentic Thai Ive ever tried but its pretty good already! The tom yum is more on the sweet side. Pad Thai is ok too. Overall, I am very happy with the meal especially not so many options in the north.
Another favorite in PG. Having travelled around South East Asia, places like this bring back those great memories. Tom Kah coconut soup with rice is so delicious. Full of flavour. Im sure theres many great options on their menu.
Authentic Tom Yum Guy. Asked for Thai Spicy and actually got it. Excellent food.
Overpriced, underspiced small portions of food. Avoid this place if you dont like to waste money!
Overpriced, lacking in spice and flavour, tiny portions.
Enough is enough. Went for dinner here... Party of 2. I am besides myself how two entrees and a 6 dollar appie makes for an 84$ bill. Service is poor as the gentleman who serves the tables lacks professionalism and doesnt provide attentive service. Mai Thai makes good Thai food, but its not 23-28$ per dish good and charging 3.50$ extra for rice is plain greedy when it is essential to the enjoyment of the dishes. They are pricing themselves out. Disappointing.
I must give Mai Thai four stars in the category of take out. Order online! But for Prince George to have a Thai restaurant must be celebrated and endorsed. Something different and known as tasty and nutritious. The restaurant moved into a small, refurbished downtown location after selling a more luxurious building on 5th of Carney, and now very much reminds me of street dining at moms and pops in Toronto proper which I have enjoyed as a youthful adult. I will most likely dine in by myself with fond memories of those days, with the well supported take out service sure to appeal to the wider Prince George audience.
I saw a lot of complain about service and old man but As a big fan of Maithai, I still pass by for dinner last Sunday. The price of padthai a little high $23 but still tasty. My favourite order is tom yum soup, fried rice with pineapple and pad thai. The old man as u guys said is rude, he is very nice with me. we even make some jokes, not only with me, even with other tables at the same time. he told me his wife as chef in back home now, so they run the restaurant with only 2 person. And both of themes are old, so I guess they are family business. For me I would love to support small business and local businesses. Will comeback for padthai again, and thank you old men for your service!!!
Great food but a bit pricey
The good is excellent here
We came here for lunch and we realized the regular menu is different than the lunch menu. Food was pretty good. My partner got coconut soup that was super tasty! It was a little expensive but the portions were huge. Neither of us could finish our plates (next time we ll share) highly recommended.
I just love their food.
Lots of good food and friendly service. PaTai chicken
Delicious food and attentive service. Recommend!
The food is amazing and the staff are always friendly whenever I go in!
Love this place, the Cashew Chicken gets your mouth watering when ever you even think of it....
This is an authentic Thai restaurant that looks like it is run by a couple. We ordered stir-fried noodles, Tom Yum Goong seafood soup and black glutinous rice taro. Every dish is delicious. Fried noodles are recommended.
Food is ok. However, this is the second time in a row that they have missed my order. Once after calling in and the second after using their website to order. You take your chances if you are counting on them to get your order correct. I am done wasting my time with this restaurant.
I love this place. However, lately, they have been slacking in terms of customer service and quality of the food. The past few times Ive ordered here, they got my order wrong and tell me it will be an hour. When I get there, my food is warm and you can tell it has been sitting there for awhile. Also, I order pork as my protein and they always give me chicken. I make the host read my order back and triple confirm and he never fails to give me the wrong protein. This time, they barely gave us any protein and there was no flavor.
Not gourmet but, reasonable food. Not very inviting. May be it was the item Stir fry chicken that I had ordered. I expected a dry stir fry dish with vegetables and chicken. But it was runny. May be, some other item would be more inviting. The salad was iceberg lettuce with sweet creamy dressing. Good service.
Went to dine-in on Friday and the owner told us Sorry there will be an hour wait, there is a whole lot of backup (approximately an hour) and we wont be able to serve you for a while. If you come back on Sunday, its completely quiet here and Ill personally treat you to an appetizer on the house. Came back on Sunday and he told us the exact same story about how it was backed up and showed no courtesy towards us. Would NOT recommend ever visiting if you will be dining inside.
Went Friday night to dine in only to be turned away as they were flooded with take out orders. Owner asked us to come back Sunday night as it would be dead quiet and promised appy on the house. Just went back only to be turned away for the same reason again. The right thing to make it up would be to seat us anyways. Will NEVER return. Bad bad customer service. Disappointing.
Wonderful meal. Great service.
Told an hour and half wait for 5 orders ahead. Staff were dropped on their head 1 too many times. Used to be one of the best places in town, absolutely garbage now.
Went there for dine in tonight. There were two occupied table, the guy told us the waiting time is one hour and a half, he did not explain why?? He was rude! No customer service. Never will come back to that restaurant
Delicious Pad Thai and Green Curry Friendly owners.
Thai Food ?
Love this place, great service and great food.
Legit Bangkok quality. Definitely worth adventuring here.
The dish in the pic is Penang Curry with jumbo Prawns scallops broccoli carrots in a coconut sauce fantastic dish so good
Nice to have a Thai place in town. Good flavors but not a lot of veggies used.
A bit expensive for the portions you get but food is consistently delicious. Nice to have a Thai restaurant in town.
Tried it tonight. Ate every last bite. Super yummy!
I placed an order for delivery this evening and was wonderfully satisfied with every bit of my experience. I expected my order to arrive with some mistakes as I requested some modifications that could have been confusing but the nice woman who took my order got it perfect! Food was delicious. I asked for super spicy and that s what I got. I would suggest going with Canadian hot if you re not looking to scorch Your tastebuds. Amazing food and. Service
This place is Soo good I thought I was back in Thailand. kapunkap!
Great food
Great food!
Service was a bit slow, but the food more than made up for it. Would definitely recommend the Pad Thai or Cashew stir fry.
Mom and pop type Thai restaurant Authentic Thai Worth a try Good food Big portions
My wife loved this place, I wasnt as enthusiastic. The food was good, but not great. Lunch was supposed to come with soup or salad, but they were out of soup.
Honestly, Ive given this place two tries. The first time I was greatly disappointed. Im not sure what dish I got, but what I intended to get was regular Pad Thai. However I decided to give it another try simply because I love Thai food and I have to say I am so glad I did. It is arguably one of the best Pad Thais Ive ever had, and Ive had a lot while living in Vancouver. This place is fantastic would recommend! I also really enjoy the COVID precautions theyre taking, its a nice addition.
Always amazing food, when ever I get the chance to go I go. Definitely worth it.
Was a good meal
Great Tai food. Consistent every time.
Always amazing food, huge portions and good prices for what you get.
Love this restaurant. Great food, great staff
Always fresh and yummy!
Good food, a little pricey. Has a nice atmosphere but service wasnt that great.
Great time.
Delicious, authentic Thai food! Never disappoints and its always consistent. Highly recommended.
The pad thai is amazing. Very authentic atmosphere
It didnt knock my socks off but it was good. I would go again and try different dishes to find something more interesting next time.
Green curry was very oily and had a very strong unpleasant smell.. Didnt taste like the Thai green curry that Ive had from other Thai restaurants in different parts of the world. The appetiser was mediocre. Also, it is very overpriced to something thats not worth the taste and the price. Please do something about the food since they stated their Chefs cook authentic dishes from Thailand which was poorly represented.
Service an food was amazing.
Food is delicious, authentic and our waitress was amazing. A bit surprised to spend $18.00 on one meal and only offered water which was disappointing. Other than the price being way to high and not at all what the price range it says online, I enjoyed eating there. Will most likely return on another pay day.
Great Thai food.
Fresh an flavorful. One of our favorites.
Friendly service and great food. Highly recommend eating here
Absolutly my favorite place to eat. Best tasting food in town by far
The dishes were fresh and delicious.
Good food and fast service. I like that they put MSG free and the fact that their cooks come direct from Thailand right on the cover of the menu. Ill be a regular here
Great food as always!
The cashew chicken is delicious
Excellent food and service.
almost 20 dollars for a to go container and no drink
Ive never had a bad experience here. The food is great.
Unique food, awesome spices, really like this restaurant.
Fabulous food good service
Amazing Thai food
Lovely fresh food and friendly service
This place is AMAZING! The food is so good and authentic. When I say authentic I mean AUTHENTIC. I can honestly say its the only real asian Cuisine in Prince George.
Great food . try the fried bananas with maple :)
Exellent food and service
One of the best restaurants in PG . From the ambience to service to food everything about this place is great . Their food presentation is great and I love the fact how authentic their flavours are . They have no msg and minimal salt in food . Their food preparation is really good with the perfect balance of spices . All the dishes are very well priced, I was very pleased . Highly recommended.
Good food and service.
Best Thai food in Prince George! Always fresh and prepared to order!
We enjoyed the swimming rama. We will keep coming back.
Food was ok, service could use some improvement. I dont really want to argue with the waitress why I need to leave the rice in the shrink wrap to keep it hot. I am trying to cool it down so my 2 year old can eat it.
Excellent food! Their coconut rice is delicious!!
Always authentic flavourful Thai cuisine with friendly service.
Very good food
Incredible food and family service.
Good Thai food. A bit pricey though.
Good food
very good service. food was delicious
A bit pricy.
the food and service is amazing but yes the prices are a bit much, but totally worth the taste of the food.
Food is always fresh and consistent. Love the Thai spice!
Excellent
Food is good, but not enough. We would order more dishes but the prices are very high. The owner/waitress is not very outgoing, she hardly talks to you :(
Having been to Thailand quite a few times I can honestly say it is authentic Thai food. Thai green curry with coconut milk has always been my favorite. If you like really spicy food ask for them to make it Thai hot!
I did not like the food here. High price. In PG there are so many nice restaurants, i regretted coming here.
Great food!
Have been here many times! Nit (owner)is the bomb. Food was quick for lunch and fantastic. Order Thai Hot not Canada Hot for a more genuine experience. Five stars if the old waiter/busser wasnt so out of place. He was unshaven and dressed in dirty denim and had BAD breath. We actually thought he was a hobo trying to get our left over food for a few moments. Reasonably priced. Generous portions. One improvement would be to source Thai basil instead of the sweet basil.
Overpriced, not friendly service, food is hit and miss. Tried Thai food in other places that is way better.
Stopped in for lunch. Food was generally underwhelming and bland. I was shocked to see the cost for small lunch with no drinks. Way overpriced for what they offer. Service was very laid back, but friendly.
The food at Mai Thai is fantastic and the service is generally good. However, the restaurant will occasionally close without warning, so you might want to have a backup plan or call ahead.
Great food and good atmosphere but let down by menu prices.
My initial review of Mai Thai praised its food and ethnic distinction. With my second pass, has its luster faded? Was that a proper introduction? I worry so many people get lost in my preamble and quit reading after the initial introduction. I often make light-hearted remarks which appear off-the-cuff as I type, and most of the time they are. It s how I distinguish my reviews from others my attempt to stand out amongst the twitter-squirts which appear to plague so many restaurant review sites. I returned to Mai Thai years after my first visit with numerous examples of Thai cuisine to stain my opinion in the interim. So to rephrase my opening question, does Mai Thai still hold up? Yes. However, I must add some caveats to that single-worded response. The first is that the service remains inadequate. It was a shock when I realized the elderly gentleman wandering around in a striped polo shirt actually worked there. That would look bizarre in any restaurant, ethnic or not. It s so bizarre considering how much effort is placed in making Mai Thai authentic. The servers didn t appear in uniform, or with any consistency whatsoever that s just plain lazy. I keep getting reminded that by visiting an Asian restaurant, you can dismiss any possibility of good service a common attribute to be expected if not desired. Yeah, no. I don t give anyone a pass in that regard. The food is still great; a little on the expensive side, but still great. I usually don t praise rice, but Mai Thai may have the best rice of any restaurant ever. Seriously, it s that good. Plus, the variety is stunning. If it wasn t for its distant location to where I live, I d come back often to sample different dishes. That being said, when I frequent restaurants, I often end up getting the same thing, a usual to be remembered by the staff, and the yellow and green curries would be those choices here. You really can t go wrong. However, the best course of action is to grab three or four of your friends and have them share dishes, which is what I did this day. This review may seem somewhat truncated compared to others but that s only because my initial review was also a dinner, and I haven t learned anything to deviate from my original review. The service still needs work; the prices are still a tad high, the food is still amazing. There are still elephants scattered about. The décor still looks that of an IHOP built in Bangkok. It helps that it s the only Thai restaurant in town. I think we badly need another, maybe one on my side of town. Mai Thai is great, fantastic, so it troubles me knowing it can be even better with very little additional effort. Let s hope that happens. DECOR: 7 PLATING: 7 SERVICE: 7 FOOD: 9 VALUE: 8 OVERALL: 7.6 out of 10
I really liked the food at this restaurant when it first opened but I thought, what do I really know about Thai food so I withheld judgement. Since then I have sampled dozens of Thai restaurants in Hawaii, Australia and other locations in Canada and have not found any that compare to our local treasure. The Thai fried rice, Pad See Ew, Pad Thai and the Panang curry are their signature dishes and must be sampled....you will not be disappointed..
Im just giving this place an overall excellent because it is just SO GOOD. I have been to Mai Thai countless times, and the food is ALWAYS good. Ive been to so many restaurants where I sample a tasty dish one day, then go back and its a completely different flavour. Mai Thai has the consistency to keep me coming back forever. I highly recommend the red curry. Its so unique, and has such a rich flavour. And dont forget to get coconut rice instead of the plain stuff- Its so sweet and yummy! Ive had many people tell me that theyve tried other Thai restaurants, and even the ones in Vancouver dont compare.
Great food - any of the L1 to L5 meals are great (various colored curries) - good atmosphere. Theres one somewhat curt server but the food is fantastic and well worth the time.
