French Bistro perfectly located right in the heart of old Quebec. Come and experience our selection of meats, wine and cocktails in a cozy and relaxing ambiance.
We visited 1640 Bistro as walk-ins without a reservation, and it’s definitely a place worth visiting while exploring Old Town Quebec. We had a great experience with the food, atmosphere, and service. The onion soup and duck leg confit with pasta were very tasty, and the maple syrup tart was amazing with its crispy crust and smooth maple filling.
Visited this restaurant with family back in 2022, and revisited in 2024 with the same food orders! Nice ambiance and dim lighting, the bar section seem to have good vibes. Food was good and there seems to be different sections of seating you can reserve for. The location is prime and is right across Le Château Frontenac, and is very accessible to the attractions in Quebec City.
Our last night in Quebec City and we found Bistro 1640. Nice ambiance, it’s bigger inside than you would think. Our server was very attentive and the food was very good too. To start we had the French onion soup and the beef tartare. Both dishes were delicious. For mains we had the Duck Leg confit with pasta and the Pork Chop with potato’s and asparagus. Lovely meal and a nice locations, a must try!
Very nice place, great atmosphere and very nice staff and service. Our dish was a bot cold, and we asked to warm it up in the oven, it took longer than expected and they served us with free dessert. Escargot was too salty, the pizza had a very nice dough but it was a bit over cooked. The pork chop with confit was very nice. I added a QR code in the photos for the menu.
This place is honestly the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. We come from Boston and we love traveling around. Our server was Oliver and his service was amazing. The presentation of the food was absolutely phenomenal and so was the taste. The desserts were definitely the best part. Tasted amazing without it being overly sweet. We took a cheesecake to go and even that was presented beautifully. I overall highly recommend this place to anyone who comes to the area.
We lucked out getting into this busy place at noon on a Saturday and so glad we did. The French onion soup was superb and my husband’s burger was fantastic. The servers were excellent and food came out nice and fast. It felt like Paris only better because it was so convenient and reasonably priced. Great atmosphere and fun to watch folks on the sidewalk.
We were so lucky to have this place as our first meal in Quebec, however that meant everywhere else had to live up to it. I'm writing this review and the end of our 5 day stay in Quebec City, and still, this would be the best meal! We both decided to do 3 courses - would very much recommend the same. The onion soup was delicious, and my seafood pasta was full of flavour. Would recommend if you enjoy dill and champagne flavouring in your pasta! My partner devoured his duck pasta and said it was very tasty. The brulee is also a must and you can taste the maple sweetness in every bite! Service was wondering and even when you walked out of this very retro styled restaurant, everyone was saying goodbye and have a wonderful evening. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting and would come back to this restaurant.
Service was quick and friendly to be seated on arrival. It was fun to have an accordion player nearby giving a nice European vibe. Orders given and food arrived quickly. My friends got a pizza, smoked meat sandwich and salad. I got the braised beef jowl which was absolutely delicious! Perfect piece of meat, perfectly cooked. The glass of Sauvignon was an accurate pour and went well with the beef jowl. Definitely would recommend this place for a tasty french dish. Service at the end wasn't as good to get the check. We waited a good 15-20 min with cards on the corner of the table until we had to waive down a different waitress who sent another waiter who came with the wrong check... Stunning decor inside.
Had the steak and it was outstanding. Recommend.
Great service and delicious food. They managed a better seat which is closer to the window. We didnt mind but still appreciated the consideration. The food was flavorful you can tell they put some thoughts into it. A comfortable experience. Escargot, duck confit, beef jowl. Escargot could come with more bread.
The food is great
Ordered onion soup, escargot and pizza. Everything was great, had a lovely time during dinner time. Weekday dinner wasn t too busy :)
Awesome place for drinks. Terrific ambience. Sit at the bar when Jeremy is making drinks and you wont be disappointed.
Very classy bistro - enjoyed the beef tartare & tuna tartare combination as well as the poutine. Beautiful setting for a snowy evening
Friendly restaurant.
Very good high-end French restaurant, braised beef and salmon, duck breast, wines and beers, dessert on promotion, delectable crème brûlée
Very good! I recommend the hamburger, delicious. There are also small peppers on the plate (or rather the board). It gives a very good spice to the hamburger. The service is very good. The toilets are on the 2nd floor, but it seems that there is a toilet on the 1st.
Very nice restaurant! This Friday evening there was a pianist and an accordionist. Very nice atmosphere. In the heart of Old Quebec and the Christmas Market! Excellent meal!
We love this bistro for the quality of its food, the atmosphere (not noisy and beautiful music or French songs). In particular, the veal day is delicious!
Great wine selection and service was friendly and warm. Really enjoyed late evening drinks here. Food
Elegant place, spectacular food and affordable prices.
Super good, very pleasant server!
Great food and great atmosphere.
Good food. Their Charcuterie Pizza was very nice. Good collection of cocktails and beers. The vibe even for a Sunday evening was great thanks to the nice playlist curated by them.
We traveled all the way from NYC to go to Quebec and have a fantastic dining experience, and 1640 totally delivered above and beyond our expectations. There are multiple ambiences within the restaurant, and my wife and I enjoyed the Christmas tree themed room with a live accordion player. Nico our waiter was fun and entertaining. The food was exceptional. We had escargot as an appetizer with a Gigi spirit. Were definitely coming back.
Everything was objectively perfect! The impeccable service, the food always on point with good portions. We had the charcuterie and cheese platter as a starter. The atmosphere is really very well done and the relaxed side of the servers shows that they are in control. Super well balanced cocktails, we had the Café du Trappeur and the Récolte, and frankly nothing to say yet. Important to highlight the negative when there is any and in this case, it is flawless. We ll be back, thank you!!
Very pleasant atmosphere, we were well attended to and the pizza was perfect!
Interesting things in the menu. Fantastic flavor combinations, things i wouldn t have imagined to pair just worked beautifully. I had the beef jowl and was super impressed with it, there were beets, onions, goat cheese maybe, other reductions i couldn t explain, it was amazing (and not something i might typically go for) . hoping to go back this evening. **** yes, we returned again and were just as impressed . there s a genuine chef here . i stepped out again from my comfort zone and tried the walleye i even ate the skin(i can t tell you how incredibly rare that is for me, i generally puke at the thought of fish skin) . it was beautiful. this is the best place i ve eaten here, easily. granted we haven t been everywhere . but. just wow. many thanks to the chef and wait staff. the team was exceptional
I really liked this cafe. After the cold weather, it was very nice to order hot French onion soup. The burger was really tasty, the cafe was cozy and warm. Also, the dessert is worth attention
Super
We were a day late for our reservation by mistake. They still found us a table on a Saturday night. The pork chop was absolutely amazing, as was dessert. I could tell that the kitchen was reluctant to provide desserts to go, but the presentation was still outstanding in the cardboard container. Top marks for both service and food.
Great food and great service!
I went alone and the food came out late and they made excuses and the head server actually apologized, but the server in question didnt even apologize and just looked at me disapprovingly after that;;; It took 40 minutes for the main to come out / Its because the restaurant is busy / You said it was because you didnt finish the appetizer, but common sense tells us who eats an appetizer for over 40 minutes... So shouldnt they have asked if they wanted to bring the main?? After I told him several times that the main menu was not appearing without asking, I felt that he was subtly ignoring me by saying that he was making it ^^ They say they have small talk with white people, but the female server is really terrible. She doesnt even say hello. Dont go there ever. I don t recommend this restaurant. It was the worst experience. I waited over 40 minutes for the main dish, and the server just kept making excuses. First, she said the food was on its way, then she said I didn t finish my appetizer (even though I d been waiting 40 minutes!), and later she said it was busy and full at the restaurant. They never even apologized for the delay. Eventually, a head server came over to apologize and offered to comp my drink, but when I got the bill, the drink had charged. When I was paying, the server said the head server offered a crème brûlée, which I declined. Whether it was because I m Asian or because I was dining alone, it was far from decent service. I felt the server was a little bit racist.
Had their French onion soup, escargot, creme brule, and chocolate fondant. Everything tastes amazing, drinks tastes great too! Cannot stop thinking about their escargot
Food was decently good, expensive for what it was and service was not great. Had to flag down our waiter for a water refill and to get the bills, and he didn t check in on us for the entirety of our meal.
Parking: Travaux partout, rue barrée par la ville. Le bordel! Food
Nice restaurant and great service. Food is also good, but nothing extraordinary. The price is a little bit too high for the portions. Yet the service is really good and kind.
Stopped here for patio drinks and appis on a beautiful September afternoon. The views from the patio are stunning. Absolutely the heart of Old Quebec City. I was honestly not expecting much except the amazing views and atmosphere. Tourist area restaurants don t typically have to try very hard. But when our food arrived we were blown away. Duck confit poutine (because you have to have poutine once on a Quebec visit!) was amazing and the charcuterie board was a work of art. The bilingual service was attentive and friendly and the overall experience set the tone for a wonderful City visit.
A table becomes available in front of us and we assign it to another couple even though we had waited... there were 2/3 empty tables 1m next to it but apparently this terrace was closed... if you dont want to work...
Ive been to this place a couple of times, and its always a pleasure. The food was good, and the atmosphere was nice. Price is reasonable with a big portion.
Lunchtime liquid and snack stop. Was very nice for what might be a tourist hot spot.
Dinner at this restaurant in downtown Quebec City. We ate a pizza and some french fries. Original environment, very dark but not the kind that bothers you. Friendly staff. Good food, the fries were really great! $65 including tip.
We really enjoyed their braised beef and cream brulee, but we cant say the same for the french onion soup. The beef was tender in a big portion size with a variety of vegetables and meshed potato. Cream brulee was well prepared and very delicious as well. However, on the french onion soup, the bread was a bit too much than required, and the soup had an aftertaste, which we didnt like. The atmosphere and our server were great. However, there was some gap in coordination/communication between the initial waiter who was in charge of seating and servers inside, causing a bit of awkward moments at the beginning where we were told to wait on the patio as kitchen opens at 5pm and we were there around 4:30pm, but later the server for tyat area came out and told us that area is closed for food and only for drinks asking did someone had us seat there or we just dropped by! This was eventually sorted out when we went inside asking about it, and another server inside took care of us.
Excellent beef cheek and crème brûlée
The restaurant is next to our hotel and we went based on our reviews here. And they were actually right. Delicious food, good quantity, fair price, friendly and fast service. It was the best meat and fries Ive ever eaten. Perfect meat, crispy potatoes. As it was cold, we stayed inside the restaurant, in the bar area, which has very red lighting. Thats the only thing that gets in the way a little, but it was our choice. Despite being in front of the best spot in the city, which normally makes everything more expensive, that didnt happen here. Excellent.
I happened to stop by this place while going to Crazy Pig, which many Koreans go to. The food was delicious and the server was friendly. I had Fresh pasta with seafood and Cote de Pork and it was delicious!
Great experience! The taste is good and the quality of the food is quite good. It seems like they used good ingredients. The beer is also very refreshing. Its a restaurant with a great atmosphere and not a waste of money.
Location - good Customer service - great Atmosphere - good Duck Poutine - 100 % pure Snails - very good! Tuna Tartare - I found it not flavorful enough
It is a restaurant located in a historic 17th-century building in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Situated on Rue Saint-Anne, it is located across Place dArmes from the Château Frontenac. it looks amazing, especially in the rain and at night. We were relaxing at Duffin Terrace and got a craving for coffee, I googled and found a couple of cafes, but this one looked very beautiful. It was not a rush time, so got the table easily. We did enjoy the view of Chateau Frontenac, sitting outside having sips of great coffee. I thought I would come back for dinner but bad luck, it was pouring really bad... nevertheless, enjoyed the history, food, vibe, and culture at this amazing bistro.
Great atmosphere and location
We were visiting from ny, and we loved the food and service so much we went back a few times. Service was amazing, staff really cares that you enjoyed food and service. Get the steak and creme Brulee us a must. Nice place to people watch.
Delicious! The most delicious steak that Ive had in Canada. The server wad kind as well. Sad thing was it wasnt clean. The room was bit dark and cups and a knife that we got were dirty. Also, there were many dust around the table and sofa.
The atmosphere is nice, the employees are very friendly, and the food tastes good! If you want to try exotic food, try Canadian-style raw beef tartare! The beer is delicious. I recommend amber among the local beers!
Pretty darn good restaurant. Had a great pizza for lunch and a nice pork chop dinner for dinner. I may be biased since it was 45 steps from my hotel door. the nighttime color is quite red and dark. But the music is great 1970s and 80s American music.
Well...the food wasnt that great...the server was friendly.
We were out for a stroll on a rainy day. They welcomed us in with no reservation and with great hospitality. It was a warm decor with a great selection of music.bwe shared the tartar combo and it was delicious. Thanks for a wonderful evening.
Excellent food wow Food
Wonderful bistro right across the street from the Frontenac. Traditional French dishes, but they also have pizza. It s a very large restaurant with some tables overlooking the square, if you are lucky enough to score one. The servers were very attentive and helpful. I had one of the best bloody Mary s ever!
Super good food
1640 Bistro is a must-visit! The food is absolutely delicious and packed with flavor, leaving me thoroughly impressed. If youre looking for a cozy, intimate spot to enjoy a great meal, this is the place to go. The ambiance is warm, inviting, and beautifully designed, making it perfect for a relaxed dining experience. The white sangria cocktail was a standout refreshing and so tasty! Special shoutout to Lori, who was an exceptional server and took great care of us throughout the evening. I highly encourage anyone to check out 1640 Bistro for a fantastic dining experience. Reviews for 1640 Bistro (French) 1640 Bistro is a place not to be missed! Went here for lunch on a weekday. The seafood pasta and grilled bruschetta were delicious. After finishing the meal, I found that I ordered grilled brûlée for free with the main meal. It may have been a promotion that started after 1:30. It was a pity that I didnt follow it. Meals are a bit expensive
We had a really disappointing experience at this restaurant. They completely forgot our order, and when we brought it to their attention, the other server offered to make it in 5 minutes. However, since the rest of our group had already finished their meals, we declined the offer. When our server returned with the bill, we asked what happened with our order. Instead of an apology or explanation, he responded rudely, saying, You didn t want it, and continued to be unpleasant for the remainder of our visit. The lack of accountability and the rude attitude really soured the experience for us.
Food was delicious! We ordered stewed beef, tuna and beef tartare and onion soup. All of them taste good!
Everything was perfect! The food, the service and the atmosphere! Glad to have discovered this restaurant! Inside it is very beautiful with a pool table! Cozy style corner with a nice old touch! We all loved it and there were 8 of us!!
Its really delicious here. I had the duck confit pasta and the duck was cooked very well. In the case of pasta, it can be greasy because of the duck, but it adds a slightly refreshing taste so you can eat it without getting bitten. I really recommend it.
Came across this restaurant for a light lunch as we were walking. Good location, located close to Le Château Frontenac. Atmosphere was nice, I liked that you could people watch as you waited for the meal. Food was OK. We ordered the duck poutine (it was OK - not great), French onion soup (good), Cesar salad (nothing special - it was OK), and a gourmet pizza (best item we ordered here - it was good).
It s a nice spot close to Chateau Frontenac if you wanna have a lunch with a view, but the food is not extraordinary, quite pricey. Too much service and don t let us go inside even though there are tons of places indoor, it s quite strange. I tried their burger, steak and duck, in general okay. Vegetarian options: Some vegetarian options but not tons Kid-friendliness: A lot of kids eat here
The server seemed a bit put off by my requests yes, I am a tourist, like most of your customers, but why treat me like an inconvenience? Yet he ultimately managed to accommodate me. Unfortunately, the smoked meat was unexpectedly fatty, so I can t recommend it. The coleslaw was good. Outdoor chairs are uncomfortable hard plastic but the indoor dining experience is simply dreary. Dietary restrictions: Dietary restrictions accommodated but do not expect them to be cheerful about it.
Manhattans were good. We didnt eat.
Our hotel was located just around the corner from 1640 Bistro located in the heart of Vieux Quebec City. Normally we avoid restaurants too close to the centers but took a chance on Bistro 1640. We ate inside as the weather had taken a change, there is a lovely patio facing the Chateau Frontenac when the weather permits. Inside the restaurant is warm and welcoming, the wait staff prompt and pleasant. My husband and son in law had the duck confit leg with herbed pasta and veggies, they loved the duck, I had some of the veggies which were seasoned and cooked perfectly. My daughter had the steak tartare which came with toasted bread points, cornichons and delicious steak fries. I had the double portobello bleu cheese smashburger, the burger was succulent, perfectly seasoned and piled high with lettuce, tomato, spicy red pepper, bleu cheese and mushrooms. It was honestly one of the best hamburgers I have ever had. If I am honest, I thought it was a portobello mushroom burger but I was not disappointed when I took a bite, absolutely delicious. Three of us had an alcoholic beverage, the bill came to $200 not including tip. Merci beaucoup pour ce merveilleaux repas!
Can I give atmosphere 10 stars? If you eat outside, you will get amazing people watching, but the inside of this restaurant is AMAZING. This is one of the few bars with mint and they make a mojito that rivals those in South Beach. The best French Onion Soup ever. Not salty, all flavor. Pizza crust is made with sesame seeds and love. Do not miss.
Great locations and views with amazing atmosphere. Enjoy great food and easy leisure time
Ordered Classico and cendre burgers, meal came with fries that were cooked well. Just how we enjoy them! Good value and flavour. Great dining experience with a busy vibe. We dined on patio and found this perfect after a busy day of touring city.
2024.09 The restaurant recommended by the tour guide, the pork chop and duck breast are very delicious.
Great little spot, live local music, great beef tartar!
Everything was really very good and well presented with impeccable service and at a really acceptable price given the very high quality of the dishes served. Were going to come back. THANKS!
Finally a good restaurant in Quebec. Original cuisine.
Food is not the best one. Chocolate fondan was not like fondan with liquid chocolate, it was like brownie with ice cream. Cesar salad was dry. Service not bad but food totally not good. Food
The pizza has a thin crust and plenty of fillings. It has a rich texture with sunflower seeds and is very delicious. The onion soup didnt taste good.
My family and I recently visited this restaurant while on a trip to Quebec, and unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing. We were the only Chinese people there and we noticed that we were not treated the same as other customers. While every other table was promptly served water as they waited for their food, we had to ask for it ourselves. It may seem like a small issue, but it made us feel unwelcome and overlooked. The food was great, but the lack of attention to basic service standards really detracted from our overall experience. I hope 1640 Bistro takes this feedback seriously and improves its service for all customers.
This is the first restaurant we visited in Quebec city and it was a great start for the food experience. We tried the onion soup (superb), the beef tartar (split opinion) and the duck confit which was out of this world. The drinks were also as good. The location is one of the best on the corner with lots of energy all around. We didnt get to try the desert, perhaps they were changing staff between lunch and dinner.
Food is great, we had pizza which was nice. Our waitress was not bad, but there was a waiter (tall thin boy with no beard) who ignored us when we needed help, I am sure that he saw and heard us but ignored. We were there on July 26 at 9 PM, because of that waiter being rude I am giving 1 star. Food
I was worried this would be a tourist trap, and it kind of was, but they stayed open late and still served us even in the rain. We had been out all day and we re so hungry, I can t even remember what we ate, but I had the best maple creme brûlée and my sister really enjoyed her French onion soup. We had fun watching people try to get the ring on the hook while walking by and seeing all the goings on in the square. Great wines, too!
Excellent service and the meal was perfect. (Nice portion and tasty) Far from being a tourist trap. We recommend it!
Good place good peoples good service but the foods were not good We just ordered beef tartar and French onions soup but The onion soup didnt taste good and tartar was to dry I hope the director of 1640 should take an action about that
Good place to have a beer and a bite to eat. The cheese board and classic tartare are highly recommended.
We had a wonderful waiter, super helpful and friendly. Really great guy. The food was ok. Not a high flyer but ok. We had the poutine and Cesar s salad as a veggie version. The homemade lemonade is a hit. Vegetarian options: Just talk to the waiter.
Asked for additional bread before main course and the girl said she need to ask the kitchen then came back and told us we need to paid $1.25 for each piece of bread. We Ordered steak and duck ,and asked the steak at 70% cooked, which came out bloody red ,returned to have it cook more but still came out very red. The duck was very plain and dry.
My husband and I ate at this restaurant which was recommended by someone at our hotel. The food here was delicious although a little pricey. Drinks were beautiful and tasty. Our waiter Maxim was excellent and attentive to our every need and even gave us recommendations for activities. Overall an amazing place and would definitely come back.
Old Quebec! In the shadow of the Chateau Frontenac and monuments of Faith and Samuel-De Champlain unesco site! Generally great food and drinks. Burger was very good and so was the braised beef cheek. Just beware the cheese pizza which has pine nuts, sunflower and pumpkin seeds in it. It was surprisingly good but if you have picky eaters or allergies, be careful. Wish the wait staff would ask just to be safe.
Great service, food and view!
Very good burgers and homemade fries. Friendly service. Good pizza too. A little expensive despite everything: 156 Canadian dollars for 4
I went with my daughter. She had the classic burger and it was succulent and tasty. I had the tuna tartare but I didnt like the taste so I added mayonnaise and I found it better. The waitress, excellent service and attentive to the customer. The only thing less positive was the fact that my daughter received her order and had time to eat it before I received my plate. The cook had lost or forgotten my order. otherwise great place to have a drink on the terrace or eat a good meal.
We had 4 beers and the time flew by
Here is the fabulous burger I ate in this magnificent restaurant!!
The dishes are delicious and original. The staff is very friendly. We stayed 4 days in Quebec and ate there three times. The value for money is great. Thank you for this culinary experience.
Stopped in for a little bit and a beer on a hot Friday afternoon in August. Emanuel was our attentive server who by the way was so friendly and attentive. We ordered the charcuterie board for two and let me tell you.. it was so perfect . Just the right amount of delight and delish for the two of us. Sitting enjoying good food and a beer in the middle of old town Quebec, it was the perfect place to be.
Food and service of staff was very good. Staff helped me give birthday surprise to my girlfriend. Was able enjoy veg burger and pizza with chocolate fondu Food
The food was flavorsome, the server was quite friendly and really helpful and the whole vibe of the place is what you dont get everywhere
Good bar-restaurant with good food, service and atmosphere, in the very center of old Quebec... why then only 3*? For the prices! the cheapest main dish at $36, the most basic burger at $26... it is evident that (tourist) demand exceeds supply, at least in this neighborhood!
Good place to spend the afternoon enjoying a bottle and some cheese .
We had a decent experience at the Bistro 1640. I had Duck Leg, and my children had a Pork chop with shallot sauce and maple-flavored salmon. The duck leg was very tender and juicy, but the pork chop and salmon were slightly overcooked. The cream of broccoli soup was pretty tasty, and the cheesecake was delicious to end up with meals. The waiter was attentive and friendly and checked with us to ensure we had any questions. The only problem was that when we first came in, one of the empty plates on the table had three dead flies on them. Other than that, it was a good restaurant.
Absolutely marvelous burgers and great portion sizes. We also checked out their bar and they made a beautiful espresso martini, one of the best I ve ever had!
Great vegetarian options and perfect atmosphere.
Vegetarian options: Burger and pizza Food
Perfect spot to sit by the pietonal and watch people pass by while you enjoy a delicious meal. Prices are a bit higher than other places, but you can tell by the presentation of the dishes that is worth the money. The interior design of the place is beautiful. Thanks to Nico for his outstanding service and for translating the menu to Spanish and Russian.
First visited this restaurant with a group of friends in 2019 and loved it. Went back around New Years in 2024 and loved it even more. Went for dinner and was very eager to go back for lunch the next day, so we did. Love the ambience and the food is so, so flavourful. Hoping for more additions to the menu!
Delicious food and great service in the thick of the tourist area. The duck and steak we had were both delicious. Our server was attentive and great.
A prime location to savor Quebecs cozy European ambiance while delighting in its delectable cuisine.
Excellent service, same for the kitchen! :)
Excellent restaurant! Next to Château Frontenac, it is a place that combines elegance, excellent service and good food very well! 100% recommended!
Outstanding service, food, and atmosphere. Definitely recommend the charcuterie pizza Food
Nice place, very good music, good food, good service! I loved!
Stopped for dinner and was seated on the patio. Service was a bit slow but staff were pleasant and the food was great.. especially the pork chop.
it was good
Located downstairs from our hotel, Auberge du Tresor, this café is not to be missed! There was a slight wait of about 15 minutes, but thats to be expected when the patio overlooks the beautiful town square, just steps to the waterfront and surrounded by street musicians serenading you. Playing the ring game out front passed the time quickly. Stefan made some excellent drink and food recommendations, so when our server arrived, we ordered a Gigi spritz, a pinot grigio, the French onion soup, and the beef tartare with fries (we upgraded those to poutine) and everything was DELICIOUS! Upon wrapping up our meal, our server Louie gave us a step-by-step map of where he recommended we walk to see all the best spots since we were only in town for the night. It turned our magical dinner into a wonderful night seeing all the best sights! Highly recommend Bistro 1640 for the amazing staff, scrumptious food, and lively atmosphere!
Good here was delicious. The charcuterie board was very large between 4 people. We ate a lot. Really nice views, next to the hotel. Really nice to just sit and look. Good seating outside. Food stops at 10pm, but lots of people came for drinks after. The spritz was delicious.
The waiters are very friendly and helpful. There is no problem communicating in English. Food is wonderful.
Amazing restaurant/hotel but they allow a black corvette car to park in the hotel 10 minute parking spots all day. It d be nice to not have to walk so far with my luggage to my own hotel room just because morons want to park out front to show off their cars. Not to mention, the corvette driver told me to move my car when i parked to take my luggage to my hotel room. Didn t know he owned the parking spots Parking: It d be nice if the hotel parking was for hotel residents
Great service, tasty food, hot prices :) Overall experience is satisfying. Food
Great pub like place for drinks and food. If you need a more relaxed dinner this is a great stop. Super friendly staff. The beef was great. The tuna and beef tartar were excellent. The duck poutine was one of my favorite bites of food on the trip. Great selection of wine. I would recommend if you need a solid dinner. Lots of options of food if you need variety. The burger was excellent.
Absolutely a perfect experience: Started with the French Onion Soup (best in town) Moved onto the Pork Chop and Steak frites. Service was immaculate. Been to QC a few times and this is the first review I ve felt obligated to have to do! 10/10
Had dinner at this beautiful cozy restaurant right in front of the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac. Food was really good, tried the Maraichere pizza with local red wine. French onion soup was good as well. Good options for vegetarians
Nice patio with great views. Very pricey for the lunch we had. French onion soup was disappointing, a simple slice of bread with some mozzarella, very few onions and had an onion peel. $32 for two small bowls of mostly broth. The $27 thin crust veggie pizza was good but not much to it, pretty small. .Overall quite disappointing for an $80 lunch with no drinks.
Dining or having a drink in front of Château Frontenac is a nice experience. Unfortunately, I was in a bit of a hurry, so I had to take my food with me. When I got back to my hotel and reheated my food, the food was still amazing, even for a to-go. I had the duck glazed, and it was so good. Staff was kind enough to accommodate me, but the service time can be improved upon. Nonetheless, I had a wonderful time in Quebec City and Ill be bringing some friends or family here the next time I visit Quebec again
Excellent cuisine and excellent waiter
It was a warm day and we ate outside. Food was delicious. Excellent staff. They sang happy birthday to my cousin which was much appreciated. Highly recommend.
We sat outdoors
The duck leg with fresh pasta was the best dish we had in our whole trip!! We started with the duck confit poutine which was also AMAZING! The IPA and rose wine were also good and generously poured. Would definitely come back.
Amazing food, and amazing service. We ordered onion soup, duck leg pasta, and smoked meat sandwich ($88 in total including tax). The soup is my absolute favorite. Will 100% recommend this place to my friends!
Great location, exceptional food and the server who looks after us was friendly. I really appreciate it. Food
Very nice food
The restaurant was a bit dim, but it didnt affect the deliciousness of the food. We ordered salmon and duck leg the salmon was very tender, and the duck leg had a slightly sweet and unique taste.
The atmosphere and service of this French restaurant are very good, giving people a warm and elegant feeling. Although the snails for appetizers and the duck leg pasta for main course did not particularly surprise me, the seafood pizza was good, and the overall experience was still very pleasant.
Excellent food and excellent service ! Frank was our server and he was amazing ! Being a vegetarian it gets tricky to find food as per our taste palette ! But they had dishes which they made in vegetarian for us ! 5 star rating and a must try for anyone in Quebec City !
I would love to give this 5 stars, BUT when they cant give you a free refill on fountain soda it is ridiculous. The food was great and our waitress was great too. Theres no reason that a good restaurant needs to be this cheap.
Amazing food and service.
I really liked the tartar
Very well located opposite the Chateaux Frontnac, a distinguished clientele, generous dishes and drinks with an incredible staff, dynamic professionals, smiling and attentive... I recommend it to everyone...
Cozy restaurant but a little chilly near the window but outside it was snowing with a lot of wind. The staff kindly allowed us to change tables to a warmer area. The sandwiches we ate were good, the final creme brulee was excellent Parking: Limited places because in the city center
Excellent steak fries. Loved the atmosphere as well as the Quebec and French music which highlights our Francophonie.
Just stopped in because we needed a drink after sightseeing all day. Expectations were greatly exceeded. The bartender takes his cocktails very seriously. Great old fashion and spritz a gigi...as pictured. The smoked cocktail was fantastic as well and perfect bar top show. Dont do reviews often, but this place deserves cocktail bar recognition!
Yes I recommend, excellent restaurant excellent food really good
Very good meal
We had a pleasant time in this traditional restaurant. The Burgundy-style snail casserole as a starter was excellent! The snails were tender. As a main course, I opted for the beef tartare and it was delicious! The meat was fresh and the seasoning of tarragon mayonnaise, pickles and capers gave it an exceptional taste.
Very high quality restaurant. First of all, the setting is splendid with this terrace located opposite Château Frontenac. The welcome is very friendly as is the service throughout the meal. As for the food, its fabulous. The dishes were perfectly fair. The impeccable seasoning and particularly careful dressing. My sincere congratulations to the chef who, from starter to dessert, delighted us. The value for money is completely consistent in this establishment. Thank you for this moment
Thanks for the great time and delicious food! Great service, delicious food (pork with goat cheese, snails, poutine with duck), highly recommend this place! 10/10
The charcuterie for two is unmissable!!!
Famous tourist attractions for your lunch. I dined here 20 years ago.
Excellent, service and food. What more can I say. Thank you
We decided to randomly choose a restaurant and stumbled over Bristo 1640. Glad that we did because their food is really good and so is the live music performance. I had the seafood pasta and my wife had the fish and crème brûlée. Unfortunately we didn t take pictures this time because we were hungry however I have a short video of the live performance which got everyone engaged. if you are in old town Quebec check this place out.
I had pizza and French-style raw beef and it tasted good. The beer called La Pitoune also tasted good. The waitress was also very friendly and greeted me with a smile, which made me feel good.
Back alley of Chateau Frontenac
Really good I recommend
Being a tourist in Quebec City, after walking up the steep steps to Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, we needed to refuel. So saw this French Bistro, decided to come here for late lunch. We had the Duck Poutine as starter, and the classic burger, le Cendré burger, Maraichere pizza, and Roast French cut pork chop topped with goat cheese. All the food were great, I would say -1/2 star for the Poutine, as it wasn t as good as the ones we had at Montreal, but the free dessert made the minus up plus more lol. Did I tell you, all of the meals come with a Crème Brûlée as complimentary! Wow! And their crème brûlée was, pretty good. It wasn t as sweet and just the right creaminess! Also the pork chop was cooked to perfection, with all the vegetables cooked to al dente, with scolloped potatoes! That was a great lunch in Quebec!
Amazing restaurent. Great ambiance and atmosphere. Absolutely loved this place. Took the braised beef, was delicious. We also tried the smoked meat sandwich, cold-cut pizza, burger, onion soup and escargots all amazing! Must try if you are in quebec city!
We had lunch and everything was just perfect. The fish and shrimp were awesome and the cheese burger was amazing. Highly recommended.
Really I like so much the food unfortunately they have a promotion to get a free cream brule when but a main plat and never the waiters told us about that one, we enjoy a good food however that part of the service no good
A very nice discovery! Very pleasant welcome, quality cuisine with a beautiful presentation and beautiful portions, smiling and impeccable service, nice music... what can we add? Go for it !!
Wanted to sit in back portion of the restaurant but we were told we had to sit by the bar. Service was okay. Food wasn t great. Expensive tourist trap. $120 for 2 burgers 3 drinks.
Food was great and the service was very friendly!
Absolutely blown away today! Maybe it had to do with it being a stunning early April day and that always makes everything better. We had the appetizer size beef tartare - the crostini was perfectly done and served with slabs of Parmesan cheese. The beef tartare was silky, smooth, popping with flavour and ample sized. We also had the smoked meat sandwich. The rye bread was perfect and the meat thick and delicious, great mustard balance. The coleslaw was also perfectly balanced as well for a classic slaw. Not too acidic, not too crunchy, just a straight up great coleslaw. The crème brûlée was classic, nothing fancy but absolutely nailed it. When a restaurant gets the simple things perfect you know that the rest they do is going to be amazing and I can t wait to come back and try more.
Super nice restaurant. The presentation of the plates is magnificent. The menu is varied, everything looks delicious. The service is impeccable. Plus a live musician! Very nice atmosphere. Definitely worth the price.
Terrible food - duck had a wierd flavour. Way too expensive.
Met some excellent people. Excellent music. Excellent staff.
The dishes were all excellent. The snails as a starter were really delicious. The beef tartare really succeeds. Only downside for us: the very uncomfortable bistro chairs and the smallness of the table, we lost our utensils.
Welcoming bar, friendly service, great burgers and a cool, dark atmosphere.
A big wow! Especially to the waiter at the bar on Monday evening March 4, 2024! A 100%! Beef cheek!!!! WOWWWW!!!!!!! A REAL TREAT !!! I would have taken a little more.
Great food and cocktail. I enjoyed the music style too.
Deliciously delicious food. 5 star taste. It s a must place to eat. Atmosphere is great. Location in front of Chateau Frontenac. Staff really welcoming. Nothing negative.
The atmosphere and the food were there! I highly recommend, the service was great!!
Food just wow crazy service very nice place to try
Absolutely stellar meal here. It was very busy and we were initially told we would have to wait but they managed to squeeze us in right away. The food was delicious and they have a great drink menu. Cannot recommend the duck leg and pasta enough. One of the best meals Ive had in ten years.
Brasserie-style restaurant very well located for a visit to old Quebec. The cuisine is of high quality and the portions are satisfactory. A very good service with very welcoming staff who are concerned about our satisfaction. A favorite for their broccoli cream with laughing cow, and their maple crème brûlée! I recommend
A quiet Monday, perfect for a romantic meal. The cocktails are good and the plates are well filled.
Visited 1640 bistro, nestled in a bustling area with a charming patio. The vibrant atmosphere and outdoor seating created a fantastic dining experience. While the food was decent, the lively location and the cozy patio made it an enjoyable spot.
Got the charcuterie pizza and it was easily the best I ve had in Quebec. Service was excellent as well.
We spent a great evening at the bar counters of this bistro with a superb atmosphere and a very friendly and competent server team. We were particularly served and advised by FELIX with his signature cocktails at the top, especially one of these rum cocktails. spicy which he has the secret I highly recommend this place Signed the Europeans
Highly recommended! I highly recommend
Because I visited in winter, part of the place was closed and they assigned us a table in a corner, which I didnt like very much. The food is French Canadian type. We ordered onion soup and cream of broccoli and for main courses a very good charcuterie pizza, the crunchy dough and fresh ingredients and a pork chop that came on a base of mashed potatoes and very tender grilled vegetables. For drinks, an Italian wine and a sivo rhubarb cocktail with strawberries. Everything we ate was delicious. For 2 people $$$.
This place was great, really good service & food, atmosphere & music on point, Felix is making some amazing cocktails, check this place out!
A place that has tarnished Quebecs good image with the worst service mindset, being unfriendly, despite having made a reservation, they gave a table next to the door for drinking alcohol, after insisting three times, they finally changed to a different table inside but threw forks, knives, and plates as if they were angry, didnt even offer a glass of water throughout the meal, and even though the price was a few cents, when paid in cash, they rounded up and gave back less, a place that has ruined the good memories of Quebec.
I came here wanting to eat foie gras, but it s no longer available. But we also ordered other pork chops and fish steaks which were delicious. Be sure to come and try it.
Delicious
Best beef tartare!
Depending on what you eat, the food is okay. Not that the waiter was excellent. Service was excellent. The food so so Kid-friendliness: Even if they dont stay on the menu they do have a kids menu which was excellent
The onion soup is very good, the pork chop is also good, and the vegetables on the side are also very delicious
Food - below average (burgers. Pizza and Sandwich) Subway and Mcdonald has better food. Food
OMG What a place!!! Super satisfied with the food and service
Absolutely amazing atmosphere. Such a cozy and warm restaurant. Great location and really good taste !! I love the lightning and menu options. I had great time there !!
Lovely but expensive. Wouldnt describe as value for money
Such a amazing food experience. Impressive food plating, flavourful seasoning and excellent customer service. We definitely come back for Cuisse De Canard Confite & Pates ( Glazed duck leg with fresh pasta). If you travel to Old Quebec and want to experience amazing French cuisine. 1640 Bistro is the place.
this place truly deserves more than 5 stars such a nice atmosphere and the serving was on point I was very happy with the bar staff as they ve managed to make my favourite cocktail old fashioned The food was delicious and didn t take too long to make it on our table My family had also a good time would definitely recommend
