Honestly, this place surpasses most of the Michelin-starred restaurants I’ve tried in the past. The value for money is exceptional, especially with the non-alcoholic drink pairing—it’s surprisingly good! Every dish is incredibly creative, with perfectly balanced flavors.
Best meal of my life! Everything was unbelievable! We were shocked by so many of the platings. Each course was a new twist which perked up our tastebuds and surprised us. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting Quebec. We did the chefs table. We got a tour of the kitchen and the chef came out to explain each dish to us. We did a collection wine pairing and a non alcoholic pairing. Both were unbelievable.

From start to end, a most magical dining experience. This is by far the best restaurant I’ve been to and hopefully not the last time. You know that one scene from Ratatouille when the critique eats the dish and imagines the happiest memory, well that was me for almost all the dishes. I don't know where to begin. Might as well start with the "elephant" of price. Many people would argue that 1200.00 for two people to have dinner is opulence at it's worst; i would argue otherwise. Come to La Taniere as an investment. An investment in knowing that you only have a finite amount of dining experiences while in this life and know that La Taniere will surely be at the top. This is a personalized experience from the moment of arrival, using a unique code to enter the dining room immediately alerts the staff that you have arrived. They greet you by name and usher you in to the first vault where the journey begins. You will be moved through 3 separate "vaults" and treated to some history, some art and some well thought out dishes that compliment the local ingredients and the Chef's vision. Every aspect of this sining experience is worth it. The staff are very well trained and provide excellent service in both English and French. This hidden gem is well on it's way to becoming found and awarded accordingly so take the opportunity to visit while you still can!

We’ve dined at many high-end restaurants, but this one stands out as the best we’ve experienced. We were there 2 years ago for our anniversary but i just didn’t have time to write the review. I still remember all the details as this experience truly becomes engraved in you! They truly deserve all the accolades. We are happy to find out that they have won several prestigious awards such as the Relais Chateau since then! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with exceptional warmth. We began with appetizers at the bar area before being escorted to our table in the main dining room. As someone who doesn’t drink alcohol, I was particularly impressed by the delicious mocktails they offered. The staff made us feel special by knowing our names, and each dish and drink was crafted with remarkable finesse and artistry. The host (i forgot his name but had glasses) is well versed about everything and was able to answer all questions we had! Each ingredient you see on your dish is cherry picked and has the highest grade! Flavours were unlike anything we’ve ever encountered. We even had the pleasure of briefly meeting Chef Francois-Emmanuel, a remarkably talented individual. His entire team is dedicated to providing an unparalleled dining experience. It was an unforgettable evening, and we eagerly look forward to our next visit.
My wife and I were in Quebec for a conference and saw the reviews, so we made a reservation months ago. This was definitely the most memorable dining experience of our lives and will stay with us for years to come! From the moment you arrive you are treated like a VIP. The ambiance is just amazing. You can tell that the entire staff are dedicated to making it a truly magical experience for everyone, and their knowledge of every ingredient was remarkable. Every dish was like a little masterpiece and you never knew what was coming next. We appreciated the custom note cards and after-experience summaries. They are great mementos for us to remember our special dinner. Just amazing!

La Tanière is without a doubt the best restaurant I have ever had the chance to eat at. This is truly what we call living a unique gastronomic experience. As a bonus, everything is local, which makes discovering the products and ingredients even more fascinating, even for us who come from Quebec City. The wine pairings were simply sublime, and the non-alcoholic option was equally impressive. It s not an experience you have only once in your life: we absolutely have to go back! The staff was incredible: impeccable service, proactive, and with in-depth knowledge of each dish. The portions were perfectly balanced, allowing each course to be enjoyed without the previous one dominating the flavors. The pace of the dishes was perfectly managed: we arrived at 5 p.m. and left around 8 p.m., delighted with this experience. We now look forward to discovering other La Tanière Group restaurants. A huge congratulations to the whole team for this exceptional moment!

An incredible experience. We are transported from the start to another reality where floral flavors are king. Each dish has a particular theme, a very sophisticated presentation, and goes perfectly with the wine offered. The staff is very friendly, full of humor, and answers all our questions. We got married very recently and it was the perfect place for a prelude to our honeymoon next year. The only minor comment is that the description of the wines was often made with references to dishes on the regular menu. As we had a vegetarian menu, it broke the immersion a bit. But I completely understand that the staff cant remember all of everyones special dishes, so that certainly wont stop me from coming back the next time Im in Quebec I wish them from the bottom of my heart to win this star (those stars? ) Michelin. I have done two 3-stars in my life and the Lair surpassed my past experiences.
I celebrated my 40th birthday at la tanière and the whole experience was amazing I plan on making it an annual birthday present.
Wow! Restaurant Tanière deserves all the praise lavished by reviewers and then some. Similarly to other reviewers, we have eaten at many highly credentialled and starred restaurants, and can endorse that this meal and experience is on par with the best of the best. The use of native and locally-sourced ingredients was imaginative, balanced and unforced, the flavours were highly novel yet still delicious, and the experience engaging without over-pretention. The premium matched wine was expertly paired and very reasonably priced. Overall, an experience well-worth travelling a long distance for reserve while you can, before it receives Michelin endorsement!

What can I say except that it is the best restaurant in Quebec City. Faultless food, impeccable service and an atmosphere that cannot be experienced anywhere else in the city. Recommended chefs table with its large captains chairs. The wine pairings are all excellent, but dont overlook the alcohol-free pairing which allows for superb creativity in the drinks served. We had an amazing experience at Tanière! From the moment you step in, you can tell the entire team is dedicated to creating a wonderful, personalized experience. Each dish is beautifully crafted and presented, featuring local ingredients, and the chef has a unique story to accompany many of them. We moved through three different rooms throughout the dinner from appetizers to main courses to desserts. We chose the collection wine pairing, and I highly recommend it to everyone!
During a recent visit to Quebec City with friends, we had the pleasure of dining at Restaurant Tanière³. Overall, we were enchanted by the entire experience. While I wont reveal any of their surprises, its clear that this dinner is more than just dining; it is an experience. The restaurants unique interior design sets a relaxed atmosphere, with exceptional service. As expected from a restaurant of this caliber, the servers thoughtfully introduce each course and highlight the local ingredients used throughout the meal. Each dish is presented in a creative and original manner, highlighting the chefs artistry. While the tasting menu features a variety of courses, be aware that the portions are modestly sized, however each course can be paired with a selection of wonderful wines to complement and enhance the flavor of every service.
We were at the chefs counter and its an experience to have at least once in a lifetime! One word: WOW!

Exceptional evening with an incredible concept but above all unique and personalized. The quality of service and food was perfect. Its beautiful to see each of the dishes well thought out to represent local products but at a gastronomic standard. La Tanière offers an elegant dining experience with exceptional service. The staff are attentive, providing thorough explanations of each dish, and their hospitality really stands out. The food was generally good, though the tuna fell short of expectations. On the other hand, the wine selection was excellent almost overwhelming, to the point where it felt like too much for me personally. Now, the big question: Is it worth $1,000 for two? That s subjective. While I appreciate the experience, in my case, I don t think it justified the price. I ve had better meals at other fine dining establishments. That said, for some, it may absolutely be worth it. Overall, I d rate it 3/5. It s a solid experience, but for me, it didn t quite reach the level that the price suggests.

Exceptional service!!!!! Impeccable service! And the food is very good and once again a great discovery! The only thing I would say as a suggestion is that if you dont get the wine pairing you wont get any at all! So, no wine list or cocktails. It would be nice if we wanted a cocktail we could have one! And the same goes for wine, it would be fun if we had the option of taking the wine pairing or a bottle.

I really dont know where to begin. 5 stars does not do Taniere justice. We have dined at top restaurants around the world but nothing compared to our experience at Taniere. And I use the word experience carefully, because it truly was an experience. From the time you use your secret code to enter their unmarked door into their incredible space, everything is perfect. Greeted by name, correctly pronounced (yes they do research it and all staff know it). Physical space is fabulous as you move between the 3 rooms of their underground 1600ish building. Seasonal food themes were incredible. Not sure how many dishes (some were just bites) we had but must have been 15+.I am not one to take pictures of my food, but these plates were certainly picture worthy. Wine pairings worked perfectly. As others have said, Taniere will most definitely be up for a Michelin star when they come to town. It is pricey, but worth it. We chose it for a special occasion and it ended up being the highlight of our trip to QC.

Wife was sick, got to eat for both. The staff was really comprehensive. On a more serious note, food is absolutely delicious as you would expect from this kind of establishment. In this stratosphere, the work behind a plate is almost more important than the plate itself, you shant be disappointed. And even then your money can buy good trendy food almost everywhere nowadays, what sets the Tanière apart is the attention to details along the entire experience and the work from the entire staff. The only thing I wish I had was the menus description written at the table. By the time the waiter has finished explaining the course I had already forgotten the name of the herbs on top. In a restaurant where the details matter most, I felt I was doing dishonor to the chef, and the plate, by not appreciating each flavor. Chapeau to the entire team.

Perfect for special occasions or just for the pleasure of an immersive gastronomic experience. The service is impeccable and attentive and the decor contributes perfectly to the atmosphere. You should know that there is no menu and no choice to make. This is a 7-course gastronomic journey accompanied by appetizers and delicate touches. The menu implies that we appreciate the delicate marriage of flavors. The great success of this experience is based on a judicious dosage of quantities and flavors. The portions are just perfect and consistent with the number of services. Same thing for wines. In short, we don t come out drunk, nor on the verge of exploding, nor with the desire to go eat something else. The food/wine pairing is really worth it because it allows you to have a perfect marriage between the dishes and the drink. There is even a service designed around wine. In this case, it is the dish that accompanies the wine in a sublime and subtle fusion. The menu is greatly inspired by the Quebec region, which makes it even more unique. We took four hours to experience this wonderful journey and you should plan on around $900 Canadian for two people with food and wine pairing. Obviously, the price is substantial and equivalent to any very high-end restaurant. On the other hand, La Tanière3 rivals and surpasses many Michelin-starred European restaurants where we have already eaten.

August 1, 2024, Thursday evening Rating: 110% for food, 20% for service. There were two of us and for a $1,200 meal, we expect a high gastronomy service. The + The fun aspect of the setup, inspired by an escape game, is well thought out: mysterious places, blind menu, customization, and exceptional food. The quality is rare, close to culinary goldsmithing. The flavors are precise and divine. The meal and mocktail pairings are unique. THE - For such a price, the service should be impeccable. Unfortunately, the listening leaves something to be desired. We were asked questions without listening to our answers, and there were uncorrected dish errors. The service seemed mechanical, impersonal, without real interaction with the customer. The lights went out as soon as we left, making the exit complicated, and leaving a feeling of thank you, and goodbye. This sealed my negative opinion of the disastrous service of the evening. At $1,200 a meal, the customer must be served impeccably. We are far from the Relais & Châteaux level here. Take inspiration from the service of others like a 3 Michelin star (I invite you to eat at Troisgros and compare their service with yours) The service is far from the excellence sold by the palace. I recommend this restaurant for the exceptional quality of the food and the design of the dishes. We had a wonderful experience this past Thursday while in Quebec City on vacation. The experience from the initial email when booked, the secret code to enter, the welcome by our names when greeted as well as the food and wine pairings as we moved throughout the vault from appetizers to entrees to desserts was simply without words to describe! The posts of our pictures of no food was purposeful to add an element of surprise for those that are attending soon! The attention to detail and knowledge of all staff was impeccable. We have recently dined at The Restaurant Pearl Morissette (in Jordan Ontario near we re we live) and by far our experience was unmatched at Taniere3! Taniere is more a culinary experience than it is a restaurant. The cuisine is theme based- ours was focused on the forest North of Quebec City - and is served in courses with selected wine pairings. Once a reservation is confirmed you are provided with an arrival time and a door code to enter the restaurant. We were immediately escorted to the wine vault and provided with aperitifs before a salad and hors douvres. After our palates were sufficiently prepared we were escorted to the main dining area for our main courses of caviar on a bed of creamy potatoes,lobster, venison, and Wagyu beef- each served with its complementary wine. Finally, we were escorted to a room for a variety of desserts and digestifs. The presentation is immaculate, the food quality superb, and the service excellent. You are ultimately provided with a personalized menu to chronicle the experience. Prepare to spend three hours and some financial outlay on this unforgettable experience.

Our experience at Tanière³ was nothing short of extraordinary. Everything was beyond belief from the moment we went through the door. The atmosphere of the cellar is like no other restaurant, steeped in history. Chef Francois-Emmanuel Nicol and his team made sure every dish was prepared with the utmost care and presented in beautiful fashion, each detail of the dish explained with passion. The wine pairing received no less attention, each wine chosen to perfectly accompany the course with the appropriate explanation on the choice. The food itself was spectacular in every way, leaving you speechless for how amazing it is. I can confidently say that this is one of the best restaurant experiences in the world.
I had the wine pairing and my wife had the non-alcoholic pairing. Both pairing were excellent and matched/balanced the food perfectly. The service was wonderful, the experience exceptional and food beyond wonderful and filling.

I had my eye on this establishment for 2-3 years, I was just waiting for the right time to go. I took advantage of the International Book Fair in Quebec, between two signing sessions, I went to knock on the discreet front of the establishment. I wont reveal to you all the storytelling behind it, but know that we dont come to La Tanière to taste excellent dishes, we come there to live a historical, gastronomic experience well beyond what you can imagine. The ingredients will take you through a little-known Quebec, the creativity of the dishes is sublime. The service is efficient, very attentive, personalized. It s also one of the rare establishments that offers a mocktail pairing with the menu (and what mocktails)! Enough words, Ill let you enjoy my photos :) Are we going back? Most certainly in a few months, I assume the menu will have changed by then.

Me and my girlfriend loved it. Were talking about a crush here. We have tried several restaurants both in Quebec and elsewhere in the world and La Ténier is at the top of the list. The gastronomic experience is incredible, the culinary research, the service, everything was perfect. I recommend that you book the chefs table experience with its 10 armchairs in front of the kitchen to live the experience to the fullest. A big thank you!!

Quite possibly the best dining experience Ive ever had. I have done Michelin starred tasting menus at a couple places around the world and this is at the top. I wont post pictures of food since I think they like to keep that a surprise, but Ill post pictures of the interior which were wholly unique and immersive. The staff were very accommodating to my allergies and my wifes pregnancy. They ran down the list of what would be okay for my pregnant wife and what would not. That was very much appreciated. Of course the food was delicious and so creative but I wont say too much so as not to ruin anything. If I am ever in Quebec City again, I will definitely stop by again.

Weve traveled around the world, and we always try to get a little bit of everything. We try street food, local dishes and in some occasions we get ourselves a treat. In this case La Tanière is probably THE best experience I have ever had. From the hidden spot, with the personalized key to get in the restaurant, to the finest attention you could ever have. Everything is calculated from the place you sit, the dishes, the pairing flavours and the overall experience is spectacular. Yes, it is expensive, with alcohol you can expect to pay around $1000 for two people. But it is the experience of a lifetime. Ive had a Michelin Star restaurant in Marseille, some fancy rooftop restaurants in Miami, and some dazzling restaurants in San Francisco, and this one is ranking near the top.

I was very, very happy to be able to reserve a spot here just a week in advance. Michelin is not in Quebec City, but if it was, Taniere would surely get 2 or 3 stars. It was an experience from top to bottom. To begin, once a reservation is made, you will receive a secret door code for entry into the unassuming, unmarked yellow door outside. Once within, you immediately descend into a forested vault that was built 500 years ago. The sounds and smells of the forest fill the air. We were greeted by name once we made our way through the woods to a desk where we gave up our coats. Afterward, we were led into the first room where we are told about the experience and choose our drink pairings for the night. I chose the Wine Experience, and Shahrzad chose the non-alcoholic, which was phenomenal. We were also served our first series of courses. Next, we moved to the main dining vault past the Chefs Table, which you can also reserve if you are lucky enough. There, you can watch everything being created. Once seated at our table, we were each given two small antique keys that open two drawers on each side of the table. These drawers contained a personalized card with a poem hinting at the signature dish, Noble, as well as our napkin and utensils. Here in the main vault, we were served our next 7 courses. Two of these courses might be the best dishes Ive ever had in my entire life. Each dish is brought out by 2 servers who deliver it to the table in perfect sync. Another member of the staff describes each dish, the ingredients, the inspiration, and the sources, which are all local to Quebec. Every part of each dish is sourced locally. If you cant get it in Quebec, its not used in the dish. That includes things as common as olive oil and as popular as chocolate. About 2 hours into the experience, with 15 courses down, we are moved to the final room for dessert. This room is filled with trees, both sculptural and real. The ambiance is different, and the space is suited for wrapping up the journey they took us on. Here, we receive the final 6 dessert courses as well as dessert drinks. What an incredible 3 hours. This was the top dining experience Ive ever had, and a few of these dishes were the best Ive ever had. The entire 3-hour dinner truly was an experience from the moment we arrived outside to the moment we found our coats waiting for us outside the final room. The attention to every last detail in the food, the dishes, the space, the service, everything was perfect.

An extraordinary culinary experience, a must-try. Warm welcome with attentive staff addressing us by name upon arrival, Mr. Mrs. Presentation of the dishes impeccable and arranged with beautiful decorations. Variety and quality of the different services which use local products and are separated by theme. Excellent food and wine pairings. I had mentioned that we were coming for my partners birthday and we were treated to several very nice extra touches. Absolutely worth trying. Dietary restrictions: No problem providing vegetarian variations or variations based on certain dietary preferences, they remain high quality dishes despite everything.
It was my first time at this place and Im already looking forward to going back this summer! What can I say, it was a unique experience of its kind, whether in terms of the intimate location, the delicious food, the warm atmosphere and the incredible, knowledgeable people who take care of you. I felt like a queen the whole time. I would like to point out that through the dishes served they managed to make me like at least four ingredients that I never usually eat. If Michelin Stars were more widely spread in Canada, this establishment would easily get 2 stars (even potentially 3). For a fine-dining experience like no other, definitively worth a stop. Everything from the food, the venue, the staff, to the attention to detail contribute to a fantastic adventure. You should definitively try the table dhôte that will take you on a top notch 3h adventure with dishes from across Québec and Canada. We took the non-alcoholic pairing and I would argue that it might have been better than the wine pairing because of the meticulous preparations to make something delicious and compatible with the menu. This place holds a fantastic spot in my mind and I wish I had the funds to go more often. Id go again in a heartbeat given the choice.

Tanière is a top notch gastronomic experience in the heart of Old Québec. Every plate and cocktail is served with a story that links the local ingredients, the history of the house and the modernist cooking techniques. The experience takes place in the vault of two 17th century houses decorated in a cosy and hospitable way. The wine pairing made me discover a lot of new regions and varietals. Throughout the evening, the staff was happy to answer questions and pace the 20 courses to our rhythm. An all around outstanding evening that enchanted us from start to finish!

We have traveled worldwide and would fly back to Quebec City to have this experience again! Lengthy tasting menu well worth the hours. The time flew by and we were amazed that we didnt notice the over 3 1/2 hours. Wonderful wine pairing. Incredible atmosphere! I am an Interior Designer and extremely picky. I cant recommend Taniere highly enough. If you are lucky, you will be able to find a reservation.
Six years ago my wife and I ate at La Central in Peru. We thought the meal was fantastic and it featured all local ingredients from the different elevations in Peru. Last year it received the #1 ranked restaurant distinction in the World. Last night we ate at La Taniere and had the same experience and vibe. In fact, we liked it even better. The local food and exquisite wine pairings matched the service and atmosphere of the beautiful Quebec City. The attention to detail was appreciated and the explanation of each course was amazing. 5 stars

The focus on the terroir was the cornerstone of the food, wine and atmosphere. I dont want to spoil any of the actual elements- but suffice it to say that every bite and every sip was perfection. The chefs and sommelier are so passionate and knowledgeable, making the experience even better. Absolutely one of the most memorable dinners I have ever had. For dinner on Valentine s Day, we booked a restaurant in Quebec City, which is known as the ceiling of French cuisine. Taniere, it was my first time to spend time with playmates from afar, so I specially put on my French style shirt to match the environment; it was my first time to see no one in front of the restaurant, so I had to rely on the password for the reservation confirmation email and text message. Opening the door; trying a dinner for the first time switching three different venues and tables The first time I tried food pairing was a non-alcoholic drink, and I fell in love with the special taste of different herbs. The first time I ate sixteen dishes, I got the special dish reminder with my name on it by opening the secret drawer with a key. The menu is in a booklet and is stamped with wax. Yes, everything is very memorable. Highly recommended...
The only bad thing i can say about this place is that they were SOOO PERFECT... That all my favourite fine dinning restaurants now feel like low-teir restaurants to me now! The services were extremely well executed. The staff worked extremely well together and were knowledgeable and friendly. The entire evening had the flow and creativity of a performance. My husband surprised me with a night in your restaurant as a second chance to our honeymoon spoiled by covid. What an experience! We had an amazing time learning the history of the building, where the food and wine was inspired from and why they chose to pair them together. I experienced Tanière³ at the end of March 2023. From the start to finish it was incredible. Hands down the best place I have eaten or likely will ever eat again. The setting was insane, the food blew my mind, and the wine pairings were unbelievable. We decided to eat at the chefs counter and so so so glad we did. Coming from a small town in the United States this restaurant is unlike anything my wife and I have experienced. The food, the presentation, the atmosphere is a special luxurious treat. Since the menu is seasonal and can change daily I will not review the food or provide photos as your experience will differ. What a magical experience it will be! The house staff are all very professional and explain each dish to tell a store of the local area. For those reading this review a few general things to keep in mind: 1. Dress is casual, while it is a fine dining restaurant you do not need to show up with coat and tie :) (Unless you want to) 2. Come hungry! You can expect at least 15 courses depending on your evening. If you are a picky eater you may want to think twice, as you will experience a wide variety of ingredients many will be unfamiliar to most people. 3. Plan for 2.5 to 3 hours at this establishment. The experience and background information is not to be rushed. 4. Beverages are an extra cost. My wife and I are mostly non drinkers so we selected the non alcohol pairing option. It was amazing how these drinks paired with the meal and how some tasted like their big brother version. 5. This is a quite pricey experience. It will be at minimum a few hundred dollars per person. In my opinion (and my wifes) it was worth it for the food quality, vacation memories, and inability to have a similar experience close to our home town. Thank you to everyone at Taniere for making such a wonderful memory for us while visiting Quebec City.
What an experience! The La Tanière team has succeeded in creating something exclusive, exceptional. From the moment you receive the code to the front door, you sense that the experience will be different. Once there, the quality of the attention, the quality of the atmosphere and the quality of the food make us have a pleasant time. The experience lasts several hours (allow 3h @ 5h), but the service team, managed by Roxan, supports us excellently throughout the evening, making the experience seamless. I also recommend the food and wine pairing, very surprising. This is, without a doubt, one of our best restaurant experiences. Although it is an investment ($), every dollar is well returned to us. The dishes came really fast after each other and often we did not even finish our wine and we already got a new glass of wine for the new dish. We recommend to slow down and to make some more time to make a personal talk with the guests. However, a great experience and if you like a high quality dinner, go for it!

Great atmosphere, even better service! That said, be prepared to leave hungry! After spending just under $1,000. It was a 12 course meal, that dragged on over 3 hours and honestly each course works out to be about a tablespoon/course! We were so hungry by the end. So, just under a $1000 later, we literally walked out of the restaurant and into another one 2 blocks away to get a pizza and a poutine as we were starving! It s too bad that they re focusing too much on the art and forgetting that people still need to leave hungry . Especially after you spend that kind of money!

What an experience! We were recommended this restaurant from our the staff at Fairmont Le Chateau who raved about this location. They dubbed it a must when visiting QC. This restaurant is a marvel! - Decorum and staging increase the pleasure tenfold - the dishes are all more surprising and delicious than the others. - the food/wine pairing is divine - Changing rooms for the dishes then for the dessert is an original idea and the atmosphere of each room is different. - if I have to put just one small downside: be careful with the amuse-faces, the plates on which they are served are so sumptuous that the tiny bite seems very small in its case. Each time we visit, we are always amazed by the incredible gastronomic experience that La Tanière offers us. We spent a most pleasant evening, with staff always caring and attentive to our needs. All the dishes are carefully thought out, the taste, the flavors, the textures, the aesthetics.... everything is carefully thought out in order to offer us an unforgettable culinary moment. This was one of the adventurous foodie experience I have come across. Very exciting. The venue was fantastic, a historic building, a cellar, in the heart of Old Quebec, with access through a yellow door, no signage, just a code, which you receive the day before your reservation. Inside, we were greeted and sat in the first area, to enjoy pre dinner drinks and appetizers. The presentation was amazing and we enjoyed small plates of daring creations which were such a treat. At this point, we were offered the drink options which were premium wine pairings, the non-premium wine pairing and the non-alcohol drink pairing. We went with the non-premium, which is the only mistake we made, we should have taken the premium pairing as that was a bit of a disappointment for us. On to the next cellar, the main course, again, super exciting small plates, the tables with drawer and locks to hint on our next dish. So creative, local fish and lobster, sturgeon caviar from New Brunswick, lamb, I don t want to give away the whole menu but the flavours I was in my element. It was one adventure after the next, the dessert served in yet another area in the cellar, a brighter section tastefully decorated with birch trees. We then had a chance to chat with other patrons, who agreed, it was an experience they would never forget. Since we arrived home, we have told many of our friends about our adventure there, have showed pictures and the menu card. I had made my reservations months ago, when I made my hotel reservations. After research, Taniere seemed to top the list and I understand why. This is a must experience while in Quebec City.

So much had been written about this French restaurant in Quebec City, the heart of French Canada. I won t rave as many reviewers do. We went to experience something different, and we weren t disappointed. But there are caveats. There is no doubt that Taniere is a premiere example of a French restaurant combining the best elements of Haute and Nouvelle Cuisine. Exquisite presentation in a historic old and comforting environment. Detailed explanations of each course by a trained and dedicated staff. Extraordinary, enjoyable, and an experience well worth the time and cost. But yet---not the best my wife and I have experienced in our world travels. We still revel in and prefer classical cooking and presentation. I ll only describe a few of the 14 courses in our meal. We started with an elderberry cocktail followed by 4 hors doeuvres centered on duck, walleye (fish), pig flank, and trout eggs. All were in Haute/Nouvelle portions which, we decided, could be sized by bites (forgive us, we were having fun). Each hors doeuvre was one bite plus another for the accompaniment (like water pepper with the pork and immature catkins with the walleye). The seven main courses ranged from 9 Shades of Tomatoes (9 combinations of different tomato types with spices and condiments-9 bites), to spruce grilled Arctic Char in a caramelized sauce (2 bites), to a 2 bite slice of Wagyu Beef with a sauce containing goldenrod and mushrooms (2 more bites). Dinner was followed by 2 dessert courses (6 bites total). The dinner from hors doeuvres to dessert took 3 hours and we were moved twice to a new location in the cellar restaurant (hors d oeuvres lounge to the main dining room to the more casual dessert room). Nice effect to separate the three parts of the meal. The one downer in the presentation of the various dishes was the detailed and critical description of each. It may be unfair, but the description of each dish by our server was lost quickly at its rapid fire delivery in French-English. While a description of each course was provided to us in a menu we received after the meal was done, each course was stated in just a few words in that menu. A more detailed description, as told by our server, would have added to the educational value of the meal. Finally, the cost of the experience cannot be ignored. My wife s and my meal, plus a bottle of wine, plus tip cost over $550. Had we opted for the wine pairing at we would have paid over $700. If you want to sit at a bar surrounding the chef and watch him prepare your food, add another $50 per person. Was it worth it? Yes, 4 stars for the food and 5 stars for the total experience.

We didnt eat at the restaurant yesterday, we had a total experience! I really have nothing to complain about this outrageous restaurant, we would have liked to see the brigade working in front of us even more to prepare the dishes. Its a paid service so I expected more. The chefs are very close to the customers and we enjoyed these moments with them to hear all their stories.
If you are an epicurean you must live the gastronomic experience of the den, service worthy of a 3 Michelin star, without taking itself too seriously, pleasure guaranteed

Truly spectacular! One of the Top 3 dining experiences Ive had in my life (tied with Michelin 2* Noor in Cordoba, Spain and slightly above 3* Akelare in San Sebastian). Atmosphere, food, wine pairing and service are all world-class and, frankly, unsurpassed. How lucky the people of Quebec City are to have Taniere for special occasion dining. Start with the atmosphere. One is given a secret pass-code to enter the restaurant which is unmarked on the outside. Youre warmly greeted and immediately escorted to the cocktail lounge where you get your first drinks and the amuse buche. Its underground in a 500 year-old stone cave with incredible lighting. From there, youre taken either to the dining room or, if you were lucky enough to get the reservation, to the 12-seat Chefs Counter which my daughter thought looked a bit like Dr Evils lair in a pre-dinner photo I shared. Dr Evil should have been so lucky, as the leather chairs are plush and perfectly situated to watch the chefs in action for the next several hours. Different staff members bring the courses out and describe their provenance and preparation. As much as possible is locally sourced from Quebec and the servers will relay stories of their time on fishing vessels, in the forests, etc. sourcing the ingredients. Its a wonderful and eclectic mix of ingredients. Preparation and presentation is 3* quality. There are two wine pairing levels and a non-alcoholic pairing option as well. While you cant go ala carte on the food, you can on the beverages - one of my fellow diners described the types of cocktails he likes, and the mixologist brought him 2 or 3 (of varying styles on the theme) throughout the evening. I had the Collection pairing and thought what was picked complemented the food exceptionally well. I also enjoyed the non-alcoholic fruit juices (palette cleansers), cocktails and teas that were in the beverage line-up. Service is very professional, warm and inviting. Everyone was able to answer the questions asked of the food and beverages. The training and excitement of the staff to be part of Taniere comes through...and diners feel almost like they were given a special pass for dinner at an old friends home for the evening. Ive read some articles lately suggesting fine dining is dead. That hasnt been my experience in various foodie cities around the world and it certainly wasnt my experience at Taniere where a new, modern fine dining experience is being conceived and perfectly delivered. Restaurant Tanière is a Must Dining Experience. The food presentations were incredible. The food were excellent. Although the portions were small, we were actually satisfied at the end, not leaving hungry. Its pricey, but worth the Experience. If youre looking to get stuffed, this might not be for you. The servers were incredibly knowledgeable of each food presentations & were great & very attentive. Weve been to Per Se in NYC, & Tanière is definitely up there

It was my first time on a gastronomic experience restaurant. It was amazing! The atmosphere is charming, service is very knowledgeable and on point with our needs, food & wines... excellent! We had the experience menu and it is about 10 courses of small dishes perfectly presented and paired with wines (if you select the wines menu). Keep in mind this is a gastronomic experience, you come to enjoy the flavors and value the quality of ingredients. Each time they bring a dish, they explain what it is and the origin of the ingredients. Most of the ingredients are from Quebec or Canada. Wines are from around the world. They tasted amazing! I appreciate they really made an experience and addressed our special requests, also they personalized our places with a welcome note and at the end provided with a souvenir menu. I really recommend it if you are looking for a memorable experience :)
I absolutely loved my experience at La Tanière! From entering the building to exiting. The employees are welcoming and I love the historic and raw side of the decor and dishes. What can I say about the dishes, my taste buds have never been so happy! Everything was delicious and there was no dish I liked less. Now lets talk about the decor, magnificent. The bathroom? WOW! Even the hand soap smells so good that I wanted to go wash my hands 10x during the evening! All joking aside, it was an unforgettable and unique evening. Thanks to the whole team!

The 5 courses were a delight, but the poison in the childrens menu was very disappointing. My little doll was very patient to receive her meal and she didnt even eat it.
We were there in February to mark our 20 years of living together. What an experience!!!! It s something to experience once in your life. We took in the total experience and it was worth it. The amount it cost us taking the total experience $1300. Everything was more than perfect and going from one room to another depending on the service is great. Not even able to eat our dessert. Thanks to the wonderful team for a great evening.

Very cool experience. Taniere is a true celebration of all Quebec has to offer. It was very cool to hear the history of the ingredients. I did the non alcoholic drink pairing which provided lots of interesting options, but if I returned I would skip the drink pairing. It s as much about the experience as it is about the food.
