Jean-francios G was a delight as a server as a culinary guide and as a human being. My wife and I came to the chateau Frontenac over Thanksgiving and we ate at this restaurant the first day we were there and the last day before we left. I cant say enough about how genuine informative and kind Jean Francois was as he took care of us during both meals. Further the head chef took us into the cheese and caviar room and with patient informative and charming. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. The food was spectacular. The vegetarian courses, the meat courses, the wagyu steak, the amuse-bouche were amazing. You cannot go wrong trusting this fine establishment for your culinary and libation needs. Fantastic! We went there twice for the Discovery Menu experience and the wine pairing. Dishes that change regularly depending on the seasons. The best part in my opinion: the eight-course vegetarian menu. As a vegetarian, I was delighted to find a tailor-made tasting menu experience, which is still quite rare in this type of gastronomy. In the past, we also went to Champlain for Easter brunch, which is clearly worth the detour. Vegetarian options: Le Champlain offers a 100% vegetarian menu. Everything was very good and well presented. Kid-friendliness: There is a menu specially designed for children, with Quebec and local ingredients. It was really a good discovery, we are far from the pasta and croquettes of the usual childrens menus!

Wonderful setting, very good food, great service. No need to go from the 4-course menu to 6 courses, however.

There were 14 of us for a special occasion. We met beforehand (my husband and I) to choose the wines and clarify our particularities. We were served like kings and queens. However, we had to have the waiters repeat the explanation of the plates because we couldnt hear well at the other end of the table. Our setting was perfect. The appetizer (foie gras) is exquisite! The dishes were delicious and pleased all the guests. We cant wait to go back.

Last evening we dined at the Chateaus gorgeous Le Champlain restaurant. A magical evening next to the windows with service extraordinaire. Our server not only a waiter but a sommelier as well, lent excellent food descriptions and in depth wine descriptions. His obvious enjoyment of his work and enthusiasm made our dining experience above and beyond expectations. The tasting menu paired with wines was worthy of destination dining.

It was a special dinner for the family and parts of it were very good. However, out of my 7 course meal only 3 were exceptional. One course was barely warm. Lobster was tough. Although the restaurant wasnt crowded, the service was uneven and long gaps at times. The cheese and caviar experience was very good. Waiters were pleasant but seemed rushed. It was an experience dining but not as expected and therefore somewhat disappointing.

Had the Sunday brunch today and it was massive. Tables of seafoods, custom pastries, sides and beef Wellington. Everything was meticulously prepared and delicious well worth the money.

We returned for our anniversary. The first day at the Chateau I went to the restaurant to ensure everything was confirmed with our reservation and location in the restaurant. On the Saturday night when we arrived they tried to seat us in the area with no windows. But then agreed to move us to atrium space. The meal was o.k. and certainly over priced at all in $425.00 for 2 people and 1 glass on wine. Also, if you want a first class restaurant, you should hire a professional interior designer to select your tables, chairs and lighting. Not your kitchen staff.

Beautiful setting. We got to lunch buffets on a Sunday with a reservation. One customer took all the strawberries, which I found tacky, and they didnt replace them while I was there. I didnt care for the cheesecake. We both agreed the smoked salmon was the best either of us had ever eaten. Everything else was very tasty. The strawberry banana smoothie by the milk was the best of the three. Blueberry was full of seeds, and the mango was good. We didnt drink alcohol, but it was offered. Id visit again.

The cuisine is very standardized, historic iconic site, brilliant, exceptional, there is nothing better but to eat elsewhere.

You should know that this is a tasting menu. If we had access to the menu we wouldnt have gone. Dishes like sweetbreads and elk dont appeal to everyone. We settled for a prime rib to share between 4 (25 ounces). Ordinary! Really too expensive to not really like the meal. No tablecloths on the tables and we had to ask for glasses for the red wine. On the table we present only the tasting glasses. Disappointing

My overall rating for my experience at this establishment is a 6/10 for the following reasons. Despite very friendly and enthusiastic staff the food was terribly underwhelming (except for the cheese which was amazing) My family and I have dined in the bar (which was superb) and the poolside terrace (which was great) but after a 4 hour long discovery tasting menu we left feeling more confused than accomplished. Your server will ask if you have any food allergies and offer to substitute between the meat experience (halibut, elk and veal) and the vegetarian experience (asparagus, bok choy in heavy vegetable sauce,and veggie pasta) however none of us were aware all entrees would be served room temperate or COLDER, with the fish arriving ice cold, the veal ruby red on the inside and the elk refrigerator cold. I know Canadian restaurants dont usually serve piping hot meals like in the states but other restaurants let you know in advance and let you have some choice in how your food is cooked. I feel like options were limited for the price and we didnt get our value for the price of 134 per person for four courses. Perhaps this is the norm for a tasting experience where you get what you are server eat and dont complain unless you really hate it but sadly we didnt like ANYTHING except the cheese and its too rude to return 4 dishes especially when you know everyone worked hard but we failed to see the big picture.

Our server was amazing... cant remember his name only that there was jr at the end. Really sorry!! Super insightful with everything presented. We took Discovery tasting w/ wine pairing. Even though we had a strict time-line before our show, he paid attention to our needs quite well even with a full section. Food was over the top culinary experience, and the wines were paired perfectly. Great job chefs. Merci full!

Superb vegetarian tasting menu which they added our desired fish. Every bite including the bread was sensational. Vegetarian options: Bike choy unbelievable. Mushrooms prepared in different ways and a squash past which was scrumptious Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian but they were happy to give two delicious fish dishes

Le Champlain Restaurant - Fairmont Château Frontenac The food and service both were excellent. The wait staff members (including Marc-Andre) were attentive without being intrusive, and the prix fixe tasting menu was outstanding - particularly the elk (and my wife loved the asparagus). Chef Gabriel Molleur-Langevin is to be commended for his wonderful menu (and the pastry chef deserves special praise!) We were celebrating our 41st wedding anniversary, and I cannot imagine a more eloquent setting, with a spectacular view of the St. Lawrence River. Merci!

This is no longer a child friendly place unfortunately. The Château and Restaurant Champlain has been a gourmet stopover for our family for several years now. We go there almost twice a year, during the holidays and also in summer. On our last visit we realized that children were no longer welcome. There used to be a child-friendly menu, but on our last visit with friends we found that there was now a rather complicated childrens tasting menu, which was clearly put together by someone who didnt has no children. This was a disappointment for us, as this change makes the experience much less enjoyable. We spent the evening dealing with kids who didnt want to eat and were hungry, instead of having an evening where everyone could enjoy. Additionally, the service was a bit special. We were served our food while we drank cocktails, and we kept having to explain to the waiters which children the plates went to. Although the children also had a tasting menu, no one explained to them what they were eating. In the end, the adult tasting menu was excellent. But the enjoyment of our meal was tarnished by the rest.

An absolutely top-notch dining experience with great food, wine and service to match. We enjoyed the Sunday brunch buffet which was terrific and dinner one evening which exceeded our expectations. The charcuterie board presentation is really cool and unique. The sommelier was very knowledgeable. Overall, this was the best part of our stay at the hotel.

I went there with my daughter in a recent visit. Fine dining in beautiful settings. The hospitality offered by the head hostess, Victoria, is world class.

This restaurant is highly overrated. Don t waste your money here. We had the worst service ever. Had to ask twice for a wine menu. When I asked if we could order a glass a wine our waiter said he had other fires to put out. Food was nothing great. Very salty. After we were almost done with the charcuterie board, the waiter said that he would bring us plates. The evening ended with the waiter asking us about the tip amount.

Unfortunately, we did not rediscover the pleasure of the last time: the food and wine pairings were not surprising; these, for the most part, were outlets from the day before and had sometimes lost their lightness. There was no color on the plate and no vegetables. The presentation of the dishes was correct but without originality. The service was rather cold, the exclusive ambience of Champain gave way to an eager and a little impetuous although very professional service. The toilets in the lobby were not very clean. For the price I dont think we will go back. I do not recommend the discovery menu for the moment.

I and my friends had a very pleasant experience and were serviced by Jean-Francois. The service was exceptional and we got the best spot looking out towards St.Laurent river. We took discovery dinner menus and all the courses were delicious and very well presented. It s quite pricey but definitely worth every penny!

Great environment for a dinner. We had a seat overlooking the st Lawrence river. Our waiter was very friendly and informative. The set menu contained dishes we would have never ordered but enjoyed. The wine pairing is a must. 4/5 wines that I had were fantastic. This is an expensive dinner. We spent $700 as a couple. Not something we could do on a regular basis but the experience was worth every penny.

I had the pleasure of staying two days at the magnificent Fairmont Le Château Frontenac Hotel, and my evening on Saturday March 2 at the Chaplain Restaurant will remain engraved in my memory. I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Eric, the Manager, for his exceptionally warm and professional welcome. A big thank you also to Caroline, our attentive waitress, who looked after us throughout the evening and guided us in our choice of the Signature Menu. The culinary experience was simply divine, enhanced by a most pleasant atmosphere. To top it all off, our evening ended with after-dinner drinks at Bar 1608, adding the perfect touch to our memorable experience. I highly recommend the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac Hotel and Restaurant Chaplain to anyone looking for an exceptional gastronomic experience in an enchanting setting. Brunch. Nice experience overall but quite expensive for the food quality you get. The staff was very attentive, great view on the river and the promenade. The decor is nice but furniture are obsolete and need to be refresh a bit. Food wise, large choice but subpar quality. Desserts - multiple options from candy to cake ant tarts. Smoked salmon, smoked sturgeon. Salmon and scallops in dill cream, beef Wellington and risotto were over cooked but still tasty. When you get the Pernod shrimps fresh made it s the best ! Bread, salad and eggs station could be much better. Limited choice in veggies et bread type. You ll find Benedict just ok, the scrambled eggs are made from powder we guess, not good . No no. Big deception for the cheeses and charcuteries selection. Poor quality, poor choice, average and sad. There is such a nice cheese and charcuteries production in Quebec why having cheap Camembert, non-tasty salami? Horrific. Forget about the sushi ; please if you do not know how to cook sushi rice and roll, just don t do sushi at all. we would suggest a larger choice of accessible sparkling wine for the brunch. 2 meh choices under 100$!-nd then 300$/btl. Brunch is 89$/pp+tx and service. We were happy to try it, but unfortunately left with a bitter taste. If you wanna live a great brunch experience ther is many other place - cheaper - and much better.

LAMENTABLE!!!! TO AVOID Lamentable!!! No way an internationally renowned establishment could have served such a dismal December 24 dinner. To begin with, despite a reservation, and numerous hostesses who didnt know where to turn, 45 minutes of waiting to be directed to the table. Instead of the welcome champagne scheduled and charged for, we were served a crement. We quickly had to put on our coats as it was so cold. Besides, the other guests around us did the same. The entertainment of the very noisy singer, and the menu unworthy of the price that was asked of us.... a little more than $2000 for 6 seats, and even then we had not chosen too expensive wine (only 1 bottle of windfall!!). I could never have imagined that le Champlain had fallen so low. I should have read the multiple negative reviews before booking. The Accor group would do well to take a serious look at the situation. The only positive note goes to the service staff. I am not about to set foot in this establishment again.

I would love to go back to eat at Champlain one day. Until now I had loved each of my experiences there, both in terms of the food which was of superior quality and the unparalleled service. But since the last chef arrived....ayoye! I wont go anymore until things change! The service is impeccable, yes, but the food...it really seems like they are laughing at the customers! The portions are ridiculous, its bland, its shameful! I saw other customers around us laughing as they received what looked like a sample dish. It was an endless series of appetizers and not dishes. Tasting meals are rarely large portions but here, customers clearly feel cheated by the chef! In any case they must have a good food cost but people are not stupid. Please Le Champlain, respect the customers who come to your place and who are ready to spend if the quality and experience are there! (which is no longer the case at Le Champlain) Question yourself, you are losing loyal customers and harming the reputation of this institution!

Incredible experience. We loved it! Sublime experience, we ate the discovery menu paired with the wine. The service was perfect, the perfect atmosphere for a Thursday evening with family at the castle. A gluten-free menu was available and suitable for all discerning palates!

Family of 2 adults and children aged 7 and 10 A1 service 2 attentive and professional waiters Food poorly suited for children (beef patty for children, gnocchi with too much parmesan (not childrens favorite cheese!) $89/children!!!! The 4-5 course menu, good but really nothing more, main meal overcooked duck breast and very basic, served with mashed potatoes and veal reduction. 3 glasses of wine for a nice total of $765

Since the restaurant was booked for New Years Eve....room service it was!! What a blessing in disguise! We had personalized service by Julie who set up the entire meal, opened / poured the wine to make sure we approved, made us comfortable, and was just great all around. My husband had the beef filet, I had spaghetti carbonara, and we split a Queen Elizabeth cake and bottle of Cabernet. The food was delicious and the service was top notch. We enjoyed the Champlain food in the comfort of our room at the Frontenac. I will mention.... there is a limited menu when you order room service but there are still plenty of great choices.

Do not waste your time or money on this place. My wife ate here years ago and said it was one of the best experiences she ever had. Now its a set 5 course dinner. I wouldnt have ever ordered anything they offered. You could place all 5 courses on a single plate and have room to spare. If you do decide to eat here you should eat before you go. It also took over 2 hours from start to finish. I did enjoy my drink which came from the lounge next door and the waiter was nice and tentative. If it wasnt for mandatory one star Id have given it one star for those two reasons.

As it was Valentines and we were staying at Chateau Frontenac my partner booked and l were looking forward to being able to enjoy dinner at the Champlain restaurant and yes it was a set 5 course menu and it was amazing the waiter was really nice he made the experience even better very helpful and a pleasure to interact with, due to food allergies from me they changed 2 courses for me I must say all in all a great experience with a view of the St Lawrence was a remarkable evening. The busboys were excellent as well coming out explaining the dish and then the waiter was always making sure all was ok. Will look forward to going back.

I loved this restaurant and the experience I had. My fiancé and I visited the Champlain restaurant on my birthday. The hostess welcomed us with similes and was very professional as well as the server. They offered us a beautiful table near window with a nice view. We had a 5 course menu the dishes are already decided by the chef. All dishes we had were amazing! Every dishes were beautiful, enjoyable and tasty. I could feel the whole set was well considered. My favorite dish was the seafood risotto. It was the best risotto I ever had. (and I heard other guests were complimenting the risotto too) It was delicious. The server recommended me the wine that was perfectly much with the main. Honestly, I never satisfied at any French restaurant in Canada(I live in West Coast) but except the Champlain. Thank you so much for the chef and all the staffs gave us a beautiful night. The pastry chef, I appreciate your effort to modify our dessert. It was impressive! I would love to visit here again in the future when we come back to Quebec city.

Très professionnel et de superbes explications avant chaque plat. C est dispendieux donc il ne faut pas s attendre à payer moins de 400$, par contre ça vaut ce que ça vaut! Très belle expérience, j ai adoré!

I had a wonderful dining experience at Champlain Restaurant. The atmosphere was elegant and sophisticated, and the service was exceptional. The food was absolutely delicious, with each dish perfectly prepared and presented beautifully. I particularly enjoyed the lobster bisque and the beef filet. The wine selection was impressive and our server was very knowledgeable and helpful in selecting the perfect wine to pair with our meal. The price was on the higher side, but it was definitely worth it for the quality of the food and service. I highly recommend Champlain Restaurant for anyone looking for a special dining experience in Quebec City.

Wow, what a welcome, Émile at the entrance to the Château and Manon the hostess of the Champlain restaurant, who worked miracles to allow us to have brunch at the magnificent Château in addition to offering us one of the most beautiful tables in the place. I highly recommend this place! It s a beautiful and true experience of all kinds.

The venue , the view , the service top notch! A very special note for Francois , excellent service! The food very average ... first dish: Bison the pickled beets were so sour that it overpowered the taste of the meat...I remember about the meat only that it is was very tender, nothing else.. the paring wine , a bit sweet, saved the dish a bit second dish: Scallop This was probably the best of all dishes. the combination between the parsley milk and caviar was exquisite! third dish: Octopus unexpected taste on the sweet side for an octopus dish, but it was delicious ! Forth and the main dish: Stuffed veal Tasteless Sweetbreads & Chicken liver! very disappointing! nothing to remember about it...like .. what was that? The winner of the night : the wild blueberry sorbet! Unbelievable flavor !!! When Francois saw how much we liked it, he brought us more! Desert: Chomeur Delicious and very beautiful presentation! Pastry Chef and Francois saved the night... the food was disappointing overall

HIGH TEA WAS A LOW EXPERIENCE! No style, old musty interior, packed in like in a train to Mumbai, no tablecloths, silly colored porcelain, MILK OR CREAM was not served, tea was tepid, pre-prepared food which tasted stale, no tongs for sandwiches, sterile service personnel. Please reconsider. High tea can be an experience but this was a nightmare. This is not AT ALL worth the price tag; a hair short of an insult.

Rated one of the top restaurants in Quebec City, and after a long drive, we decided for our first night to have dinner at the hotel. We ordered the prix fixe with the wine pairing. The food was wonderful, the wine was good, maybe I was a bit over-served ; ) and we had fantastic service. My view was wonderful. Unfortunately my husband was looking at a wall which was under construction this table for two was not very good. The view from our room was much better.

Des coupes de champagne à l entrée au service de Jean-François (oui je me souviens de son nom .. et en plus il a offert le dessert à mon conjoint vu que c était son anniversaire) . On a vraiment vraiment apprécier notre expérience la bas.

Great location and atmosphere. That s it. I know my high end restaurants and locations, so listen up. Mediocre service, and food. Service was extremely slow for the signature tasting. It shouldn t take 3hrs+ for it. Wine pairing was also very poor, along with the mediocre wine glasses with pour amount marks. It s a tourist spot. I would steer clear and ask your concierge for other local spots. However, pricing was reasonable. That s one positive. About $300pp (USD) with wine pairing. If you re trying to get laid by some mediocre gal who hasn t experienced more than a local Outback / Tim Hortons, this is your spot to get lucky. Make sure you rent a nice car. Otherwise, go to Chez Muffy.

Exceptional restaurant, perfect for celebrating my sweethearts birthday. The Château Frontenac restaurant is in a class of its own, something to do once in your life! Thank you for the beautiful evening.

The distance between the tables was not nearly enough for a meal for two. For the price I should be able to have a reasonably private meal with my wife and not have to include the two strangers sitting less than 24 inches away from us. The restaurant also seemed understaffed, resulting in a few errors between our table and the one next to ours.

First the noise level is irritating. Second, no table linens. Poor lighting make viewing a wine label impossible. Food is ok but wine pairing is strange. Take any menu and order a glass of your favorite wine...skip their pairing. Paid over $300pp and concluded that I paid too much and got too little value. Go outside the hotel to enjoy a dinner.

We had dinner here one night when we were staying at the château and it was a great experience. We got both their discovery and vegetarian discovery tasting menu, which allowed us to try pretty much the entire menu and it was a delight. Vegetarian options: Great vegetarian option

If the service is perfect, this restaurant does not deserve the title of gastronomic but of astronomical in terms of the bill. 1300 for 6 people. Unreal considering what we ate (Discovery menu with food/wine pairing). The price in no way justifies what is served. Its okay, nothing more. You must never have visited a gourmet restaurant in France (even 1 Michelin star) to rave about this establishment! Totally usurped therefore Real gastronomy is not here. This is pretentious and off topic.

Just perfect! I opted for the vegetarian tasting menu, with agreement, absolutely wonderful. What can I say about the service: impeccable. It s just okay dining experience. You can t call this Fine dining experience other than the waiter who served us everything was average. Food is okay but nothing worth coming back again. Small details were not at all taken care like the same dish for the table looked different or same music was played. The food and service is nothing close to European fine dining. Only the dessert was good.

My mother, it is really unpalatable. I feel like the five-course set menu is simply outrageous. The duck breast tastes pretty good. The dessert tastes exactly like a dentist s plastic glove. It was very noisy, with 7 tables of people sitting together in a small corridor-like place. By the way, they even charged a service fee for taxes. Absolutely outrageous experience.

I have been a regular customer of this place since the days of Jean Soulard. My last experience was simply unworthy of this restaurant. Food and presentation was poor. The service was excellent but without the dining experience its no longer worth the cost. I wont go back there again.

This restaurant is not worth it at all. Way too overpriced for very average food and service. I went to 5 restaurants in Quebec City over this weekend and Champlain was easily the worst one and was the most expensive. The only reason they could get away with this illusion of a good restaurant is because they are located in the Chateau Frontenac. Not worth it at all Go to Chez Boulay instead for twice the experience of food and service at half the price.

Excellent evening at Champlain. Creative and tasty cuisine from the new chef Gabriel Molleur-Langevin, who came to greet us at the table and excellent service from Jean-François! We will definitely go back to try the Cellar Experience.

Other than being challenging to find within this historic hotel, this restaurant offered outstanding service, a unique, memorable & tasty set menu, and a unique and delicate atmosphere. Here you are truly treated to unique cuisine & innovative dishes designed to ignite ideas - we enjoyed the set menu though the crème brûlée dessert was not to our tastes

Je suis allé bruncher au champlain, dimanche en novembre à 13h00. 79$+tx+tips. Jai été extrêmement déçues de la nourriture. Les oeufs brouillées, saucisses, bacon étaient froids. Saumon et pétoncles sont restés trop longtemps dans le réchaud donc les textures nétaient pas bonnes. Les macarons trop dur. Les pâtisseries étaient très bonnes je laccorde.

The WORST service we have ever received in a high end restaurant . Champlain Restaurant. So disappointed. A $500+ meal for two and the waiter could not even take our drink order for 45 minutes after we were seated? Thankfully the maitre d FINALLY stepped in to take our drink and dinner order and explain to us the VERY confusing menu, just as we were preparing to leave the restaurant to find accommodation elsewhere. How do you forgive this treatment in such a presumably fine establishment as the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac? And with reservations for over a month, numerous confirmations and high expectations? The limo service to the hotel with Stephan was flawless; Francis met us at the curb with great warmth; Florence checked us in at the desk and was simply lovely. Dinner at the Champlain? Again, the service was truly abhorrent although I must say the duck and Waygu beef were divine. We would never come back, as stately and beautiful as this hotel is. And hopefully we will not have to step over the tray of dirty dishes left outside our neighbors door for two days as we leave. DONE. OVER. NEVER AGAIN.

We loved the Sunday brunch, with a smiling, present but discreet team. To do with children (under 5 years old does not pay), there is even a buffet dedicated to them with lots of sweets and good cakes. I highly recommend.

We had a group dinner here -- the tasting menu -- and everyone left hungry. While the room is quite charming, the wine list is grossly overpriced and the expectation seems to be that patrons will fill up on bread and dessert and not on proteins or the featured dishes. Hugely expensive and not worth it.

Oh my, the Champlain restaurant offers the most amazing brunch that isn t just a meal, but rather an experience! We had a nice table located in the terrace area, this place had great views and lots of light. I was amazed by the old world charm. I loved the stone walls and wooden window frames, the cups and tea pot match the designs located on the ceiling (I have never seen this before) The food tasted flavourful, and was plated exceptionally well. At first I thought the service was slow and then realized during the meal it wasn t ever meant to be a quick experience ( I forgot it was a 5 course meal) we were completely full as there is so much food! All the servers were friendly, explained the menu items to us and spoke both French and English. They only offer the brunch on Sundays at this point, so I can t stress enough to make a reservation! The price for this experience is well worth the value (We paid an additional charge for the mimosas). Make a reservation today you won t be disappointed!

Excellent restaurant. I was there for my birthday 3 days ago. Excellent meal, good atmosphere, we were served by Jean François, very correct, courteous and kind to us. We will definitely come back.

Sat down with my parents and was expecting a nice meal since we are staying at the Fairmont and wanted to try the best. But very disappointed when we get there. Sat there for 10 minute and our server Daniel walked past us 5 times and didnt even ask if we are ready to order or let us know he is busy and needed some extra time. Just felt ignored. Went to the restaurant across.Sam Bistro much better service and server and attentive.

The service was not up to par. Asked for pepper, never got it. Poor wine service, the wine decanter had leftover wine from another table. Indicates truffle in the menu but its truffle oil, big difference. 1 hour between the end of the starter and the main meal. Food nothing special, very beige nothing wow. I have eaten much better in other restaurants. I dont recommend.

The place is really very pretty and is sublime in itself. The dishes are prepared. A downside on the fact of having an aperitif very similar to one of the two starters, if not almost identical. For the service, failures that are difficult to accept for a menu at 135CAD: the bill was brought to us at the same time as the dessert with a waiter visibly in a hurry to collect our money, one of the dishes was removed even though we had not finished eating. eating, an intolerance to pork was indicated except that a dish was served with it and when asked to change it the waiter indicated that it was not his fault if the head waiter was deceived even though we asked for no explanation

Yesterday, we went to Champlain for dinner. wow.. the discovery menu is magnificent. Everything was perfect. The 5 star service, the food, the wine, everything was excellent. A magical evening. successful from A to Z. Our server Jean-Francois is a pro. There arent many of these competent servers left. I recommend this place without hesitation. Very nice ambiance and service. We got served a glass of champagne as we were seated at our table. Restaurant is decorated in a victorian vibe. Food is nicely presented and portions are fair. I was expecting a little bit more in terms of flavors though. In pictures below, there are scallops, lobster bisque, risotto and lamb steak. I can t remember what is the green soup :p. Scallops could ve had some extra spices. Lobster bisque is a bit on the salty side and nothing too extraordinary with the risotto and lamb steak.

I barely every write reviews and I thought about this review for quite some time before posting. I booked a brunch reservation a month in advance as I was going to be visiting Quebec for my birthday. When me and my partner arrived and were seated it took quite some time for the waiter to start us off with drinks.. I brushed it off even though the room we were seated in was NOT busy at all. Prior to ordering I had notified my waiter that I do I have a peanut and nut allergy. The pastries come out and the waiter mentions the pastries were all good but there maybe cross contamination but there were definitely no nuts in them. I tried the pastry and immediately felt something was wrong. Once I started having reaction the waiter informs me that the pastry was made with almond flour and as the pastry chef had changed shifts and he made mistake. The waiter also jokingly tells me that I look fine and don t look like I m having a reaction. I began to go into anaphylactic shock and was rushed to the hospital.The waiter brings out the full bill for a 3 course brunch for the two of us even though we barely made it to the third course of the meal. In the rush of it all my partner quickly left money for the bill and rushed me to the hospital. I was hospitalized for an entire day due to this ordeal and no efforts were made to rectify the issue. Honestly I am still in shock at how this was handled. in this day and age food allergies are so common especially a nut allergy, and they should be taken a lot more seriously; particually when you are paying a premium at fine dining restaurant.

The best restaurant ever! This restaurant was amazing! The atmosphere is super chic, and beautiful! The food was super good! We got the discovery menu with some wine and we just admired the chef s work! The waiter was super kind, friendly, and even introduced some tourist attractions to us. We will come back again!

Very good restaurant with decor that adds enormously to the experience. The new and the old are very well mixed and the service was very good. The food was very good, with a menu that would please everyone. Its a little pricey for what it is as a meal, but considering the location and the atmosphere I think its still good value. I was disappointed with my cocktail, way too expensive for what you get. My negroni (which is a very simple cocktail to make) was really not as good as the ones I make at home with basic spirits and cost around $20.

We got reservations at this restaurant since we were hotel guests. There isn t a dress code enforced and the staff was really nice and friendly. The price is hefty and the food isn t a lot so our bill ended up being $500 with only 2 drinks. We had the 5-course meal, the beef, the duck breast (which was delicious) and the pasta. The food came out slow, especially because we had to wait for our friend who had the 5-course meal (which came with 3 appetizers). In total we probably spent 3 hours there (we got there at 7:45 PM) and the restaurant was freezing. Overall good experience and great location. Food was delicious and expensive.

One of the best dining experiences we had. The new chef is fantastic. We had a five-course meal with wine, and it was exquisite. Excellent Service, the very knowledgeable waiter explained everything in detail worth the price. However, one minor inconvenience was that I demanded to sit at the section with the windows; the hostess said that it was reserved, but still, to the end of the night, few empty tables remained empty.

We had an exceptional 5 course chefs selection meal with our family of eight at The Kings Table. Our server, Marc-Antone was incredible. Our meal lasted over 4 hours, with several tasty surprises (muse bouche, sorbet, pre-dessert) between courses. We have dined around the world, and the courses were absolutely Michelin star quality in both presentation and taste. It was a very special, memorable experience for our entire family!

My wife and I took our 4 teenage kids and with 5 glasses of wine total the meal was over $700 before tip. Unfortunately the portions were so small that we needed to get all of our kids a second meal after leaving the restaurant. At those prices my son should be getting more than one small small fish fillet with his Branzino dish. On the other hand the service was good.

The service was amazing! The server for our table was very nice, entertaining and professional. He often talked to my 9 year old son, and he payed a lot of attention to him, which made him and us happy.

Disappointing. We reserved our table two months ago. When we arrived, we were greeted by the host and escorted to our table. However, the table he seated us is in the middle, and only one foot away from the adjacent table. When there were other empty tables in the room. We asked that person if he could seat us in a table that was next to the window or more private table, instead. Without hesitation, he bluntly said that their tables are based on reservation date and insisted that was the best table he could offer. His take it or leave it attitude forced us to take this table that was given. We were surrounded by other tables and an ear shot to other patrons in the adjacent tables when eating our meals when there were empty and more private tables around. I would like to know what kind of reservation system they are using and how someone could avoid being stuck with a table that is undesirable.

This restaurant is quite fancy and service is super as well! This restaurant is located inside Fairmont hotel and quite busy with lots of people around. It was a fixed menu dinner and the food is very yummy and we also get the wine pairing for one of us so we get to try what the food would taste like with the wine and the combination do indeed goes quite well together, particularly the one with risottos! Very yummy! But it s also $$$$ (that s why I gave it a 4 star) but it was a vacation trip, we need to pamper ourselves once in several years :) all worth it!!

Decided to go her to celebrate a birthday & was absolutely disappointed. Despite communicating with the restaurant in advance the staff didn t take any measures to make the event remotely special. Our table was bang in the center of the dinning hall, the staff didn t even acknowledge the occasion or even bring us a pastry. One could say this was a policy but then we did see birthday cakes being served on other tables - so I m sure discrimination is a dish served best at this property. Apart from this the service is utterly garbage. To make matters worse we were served on broken china, menus cards missing, poorly cooked food, inattentive and absolutely poorly trained staff. Ex : If you want to give feedback the staff encourage you to write a google review instead of resolving the issue In conclusion, the celebrity chef & F&B staff who oversee this restaurant should relinquish their qualifications as they are tarnishes on their alma maters & need to go back to understanding what customer service / centricity and food flavours are. If there is an important occasion / food you crave for just avoid this establishment at all cost.

We didnt planned to eat there but we tried and the staff offered us a great table in the library of the casttle whicj was the old office of Maurice Duplessis, the Canadian Prime Minister in 1936, according to the staff Who welcomed us warmly with a cup of proseco. Marc André and his colleagues were really friendly and make us feel at home in this wonderful casttle. We really enjoyed the place. Also, the 5 services were delicious but we mostly enjoyed the scallops, the risotto and the dessert. Marc-André did two wonderful recommendations about our cocktails, I really wanted to thank him for this night! :)

Disappointment. The service was good. The decor is beautiful but it remains cold as a place. The 5-course menu is correct. Not exceptional as should be for a restaurant with such a reputation and rating. The price is correct. Basically its more expensive since its in old Quebec. The disappointment is in the wines. The map is not as impressive as I would have thought. The choice by the glass is disappointing. No exceptional wine by the glass. Much more than the 2x generally found on the price of wine. The wine and food pairing is way too expensive for what is offered. Seeing a wine for $40 on the shelf end up at $160 in the offer, lets just say that doesnt encourage you to return to the restaurant. Plus, no personalized pairing, which is the point of having a sommelier. Its about offering an extraordinary experience and making people forget that the menu with agreement + tx + tip = $680, with no extras, just the minimum. I dont know if there were hot items on the menu, but everything was cold and no fusion of flavors to wow the palate. Clearly, the administrative staff knows how to sell the restaurant well to maintain such a reputation. Should have tried, its done, we dont have to start again!

Was lucky to get a table at the last minute. Many thanks to the 14th floor concierge. Good smoked salmon and shrimps, excellent beef Wellington, lamb was a bit dry, pastry desserts were amazing in quality and variety. Great place made greater by an outstanding service thanks to Etienne.

Fantastic brunch! Impeccable service and superb view of the river! Buffet with lots of choice, everything was delicious: mimosa cocktails, pastries, seafood, cold cuts, meats, eggs, omelettes, salads, cheeses, breads, pastries and even a candy bar!

We enjoyed the Chefs menu. All 5 courses were sourced from Quebec. I definitely will remember my time dining here. I recommend the experience to anyone.

We were served a fixed price dinner experience. All of the selections were imaginative, tasty and and well presented. I also selected a wine pairing option. All but one of the wines probably were in the 88/92 points range. The one exception was more a novelty chocolate flavored selection served with dessert --- tasty, just not traditional. I would be remiss if I failed to mention our waiter, Jean François. He was very helpful describing and presenting the dishes. He also was not a hovering presence, but was immediately available, as need. He exhibited a non condescending relaxed sense of humor. His serve enhanced our experience.

Skip brunch and make a dinner reservation instead. Modats food honours local tradition, culture and techniques which makes for an exciting dining experience. Try his tasting menu or opt for à la carte, either way, you will leave wanting more!

Excellent meal! We really enjoyed the tasting menu with all locally sourced ingredients. Such a wonderful opportunity to try new things we don t often (ever) get at home (Florida). Our table was on the finished patio room, the restaurant was warm and inviting, service and the food were great and the ambiance of the snowstorm was perfect!

The food on the Discovery Menu was absolutely amazing and the wine complemented it perfectly. The decor was awesome, and really made my significant other and I feel like royalty in a castle. What made it best if all, though, was the friendly service from our waiter Manuel, who did everything to make us feel welcome and well taken care of. I could not have asked for a better night!

Food was nice. Service at the beginning before ordering was nice. Reason Im giving two stars is because we asked for more water and never got it. Also no one came around to refill it either. Our waiter cleared our table and didnt give us new utensils for our main course, instead he was with the other tables and never came back to check on us so we sat with our main course infront of us waiting for another waiter to come by to ask for utensils and he had to tell our waiter what he had forgotten. Then a lady at the end escorted us to the exit after we paid, she came rushing over to us might I add. Not sure if any one else gets escorted ...

Unfortunately, I will have to classify this restaurant as an overpriced tourist trap. In the beginning of the meal, it was a very nice experience. Food was okay. Our daughter needed to have a bathroom break that was going to be longer than usual, so we asked to have our maincourse held a few minutes. My partner and daughter returned, but neither our server nor our food showed up. After 30 more minutes of waiting we asked where the food was and the server said it was being rushed for us. In the end, We had to take our filet mignon and caribou to go. At the price we paid, this should never have to happen. I ate my cold $50 filet out of a take away container while watching hockey in our hotel room. At least there was hockey....

This was an underwhelming experience. For such a fine dining experience and atmosphere and not to mention the hefty price tag, the expectations were sky high. Sadly, they were not met. The food was good but not exceptional in any way, the meal took far too long to complete and at the end of it all we were still hungry!

Beautiful views outside the window, our group got a little private room, excellent service. The food was good quality but not anything that would excite food lovers. There are plenty of options in town that cost less than half of what the restaurant charges and taste much better. The hotel is enormous and there are always going to be lines to get into the restaurant because it is such a convenient option for the travelers so there is little incentive for the restaurant to try to get better.

Had my Xmas dinner here, the food was flawless, I will definitely revisit when I travel back to Quebec City. Deducting one star though because the restaurant forgot about my reservation and therefore they didn t honor my request to give me a window seat, instead, we were placed at a corner table in the worse location in the restaurant.... Deducting another star because the service we received was regular, definitely disappointing for a restaurant like this.

Nice experience

We arrived about 30 min early and was going to just have a drink at the bar and wait for our table. The hostess had our table ready for us early which was a plus. We were served by Daniel. He was absolutely PHENOMENAL, we loved him! All his recommendations were delicious, his wine suggestions were on point. He was kind, friendly and extremely patient with all the questions we had, very well knowledgeable. The food was great, and the extra tasters were a bonus! Highly recommend trying this restaurant, will definitely be returning upon our next visit to Quebec City!

The Modat Experience was amazing. Delicious creations that wow your palate. Favorite dish was all of them! Lol The foie gras did not last two minutes. Total disappointment, terrible service, we were 3 customers and I expected to make a great discovery but unfortunately this was not the case, we had to serve our own wine throughout the evening, our glasses of water were never refilled, the food was the same, I chose the caribou cooked rare and this one arrived way overcooked to the point where I wasnt even able to cut it with the knife, I so asked to return it, the waiter was arrogant and unhappy that I returned my plate, he brought me a filet mignon this time and again overcooked, the service was so long that I decided to eat it like this (the filet mignon overcooked), this is only my side because my 2 guests also did not appreciate their plates, so I am giving this opinion because for people who expect a 5 star like us and well you will be more than disappointed

From the service to the food and wine, everything was excellent! We had a very charming server who gave us great service with several recommendations since we didnt know what to drink or eat (lots of choices on the menu)! He made sure everything was okay throughout our meal! Plus, the view is magnificent! Dinner in front of this view was simply perfect and the restaurant is very well positioned since we dont see the pedestrians! Nice plated lunch but nothing more. On the other hand, the waitress did not offer a childrens menu when we were with two children under 3 years old. (no indication on the menu either) We took an extra plate for both. After paying, we heard on the table near us that children under 5 eat for free. Its a shame

Just finished a very substandard brunch at the beautiful Chataeu frontenac. Overpriced, plain, underseasoned and lack luster from start to finish. I had high expectations having eaten at other Fairmont properties and this was a total let down. The seafood station was minimal with a bottle of kikkoman soy sauce and tube of wasabi sitting out like a fast food take away. No side plates for bread and we had to ask for salt and pepper (see previous comment on seasoning). Avoid this tourist trap and spend your money at the many wonderful local independent restaurants.

I must start by mentioning that I have been working at the castle (for only 1 month) so I can understand that my comment may not seem credible. On the other hand, for my birthday, I decided to reserve a table for a dinner with my partner. We tried the modat experience, which was duly explained to us, both in terms of the experience of the chef and his passion for cooking and the content of the dishes (I must say that I was impressed by all the local products that they were used in such rich dishes). We had the wine pairing which was excellent. Having been in the restaurant business for years, I like to criticize the service & experience when I go out to a restaurant. 10/10 exemplary service, we missed nothing, personalized and dynamic service from Jean-François L. Recommended if you want to live a culinary experience worthy of Quebec cultures.

My husband and I spend 12 days touring and had many wonderful meals but the dinner at Le Champlain on 9/25/19 was terrible. It was our most expensive meal and the worst meal of our trip. I would not recommend it in any way.

Such an elegant experience. Our waiter, Francois, made the dining experience so special. We opted for the 5 course chefs menu and every course was very enjoyable. Everything was perfectly prepared, beautifully presented and our meals were delicious. The dining room is exquisite and the wine display is stunning. An excellent choice for a very special evening. Our only regret was that we could not get a reservartion for a table by the windows.

MUST try!! the service is amazing and the food is out of this world and if you have a window view, even better! my husband I took the tasting menu, he took the meat menu and I took the seafood. It came with a cooking book by the Chef. everything was on point, even the bread, I ate the whole loaf!

It was so tough getting a reservation for dinner while staying at the hotel, we had high expectations. Coming from NYC, I know we are fortunate enough to have great chefs at restaurants. However, for the price charged and the chef advertised as the most renowned chef in Quebec City, meal was quite bland. Foie gras was cold, am used to hot on outside, warmer inside. Quality of beef was good, but porcini was overcooked and overall seasoning was not right (I also used the sea salt left from bread course, similar to another reviewer). Our 4 year old tried the kids menu salmon and said, rice is too dry and salmon too chewy. He did not even finish the creme brûlée, which is unusual for him. Would go elsewhere in city.
