Excellent dining experiences on the multiple occasions, brunch and dinner, I visited. The brunch expérience is somewhat reminiscent of a British afternoon tea expérience given the presentation. Perfectly prepared breakfast items using fresh local ingredients. My dinner experiences were also highly memorable with the focus being on high quality fresh ingredients. Highly recommended.
Definitely the best surprise we had during our trip... went there hoping to get a table last minute, ended up dining, booking for a second dinner, then again for lunch. Everything was beyond excellent, from service to food to location. Super friendly staff, and every single dish was showing how much love and attention a Chef is supposed to bring to their creations. The quality of the products was also very obvious, making each plate a "wow" moment. Price-wise, definitely worth it. Only small recommendation would be to avoid the cheese platter. It was a great selection, very well presented and tasty, but I'd rather keep "some room" to taste another creation from the kitchen. Notables: cranberry foam with wild rose on oysters, divine. Seared beef carpaccio was amazing. Torchon of Quebec duck foie gras marbled with La Perle Blanche black garlic to die for. If you are in Quebec city and do not have dinner chez Rioux & Pettigrew, you have not travelled right.
I went there for the Sunday only brunch. Before I went there I assumed the portion would be too big for one person. But it was just right. I finished everything except the small croissant because I already had a big croissant at a local coffee shop before the meal. Each piece was a WOW. They rly cared about the quality of their food not just the appearance. It seemed like not a lot of tourists know they have brunch so it was mostly locals at the time I was there.
Had the tasting menu which was a great idea and the food was superb throughout. So why not a 5 star review? The surf and turf dish had big size discrepancies in terms of the shrimp between diners and at this price point that’s a detractor. Consistency is key when it comes to fine dining so that’s the only disappointment to an otherwise great dining experience
Excellent food and service. Fresh and balanced flavour combinations. The fresh pasta with mushroom - one of the best we have had - abundance of a variety of wild mushrooms. The beef tataki with truffle was amazing. Friendly waiter who gave us the history of the restaurant. Altogether a very memorable meal.
We had a wonderful time at Chez Rioux & Pettigrew. It was our first time doing a tasting menu and this place did not disappoint! The service was exceptional! From the moment we walked in, the staff was kind and attentive. The drinks were good. Tasting menu was 4 courses. I really enjoyed that the chef came out to explain each course and appreciated that he explained the dishes in English (not expected). One of the courses was not up our alley but presentation was still great. The dessert was the best thing we’ve ever had! We’d eat it 10 times over and were blown away! Overall a wonderful experience and definitely worth the price. Would recommend if you’re looking to spoil yourself or celebrate a special occasion.
One of the best dining experiences I have ever had, and the decor is in a semi casual setting. The restaurant is set in a rustic charming look. I don't eat a lot of bread, but the bread served here is some of the best bread I have ever eaten. The ray wing was phenomenal. The chocolate dessert was delicious, but the weakest part of the meal for me. It didn't wow me like the rest of the meal. That may be because i do not like coffee, and there was a heavy coffee part to the chocolate dessert that they modified for me. Overall, I highly recommend dining here, and I also recommend coming in a group of 2-4 people. Many of the appetizers looked delicious, but were too much for one person.
Ordering the experience option was a gamble as we didn’t know what we would get. However, to our surprise, it turned out quite good. The staff are also really friendly and asked us what food we liked and didn’t like to further customize our experience. Some members of our group told the staff that they didn’t like cilantro and their completely different dish turned out much better too! Overall, a great experience to try local authentic food. Quite expensive though.
This place was incredible! The atmosphere was very cozy and it was overall a very cool place. We did the tasting menu which is 4 courses of surprise meals and each can be paired with a glass of wine. Every single one was outstanding. I would 100% come here again.
Every time we come to this restaurant, it s always so good! It s our favorite in Quebec without any hesitation!
Vegetarian options: There werent many vegetarian options on the menu. But I asked them, they were very accommodating and did an excellent job to change dishes to vegetarian plates. Food
Fantastic place in Quebec City
It was my first time and I loved it. It was excellent, all the dishes paired well with the accompaniments. The deer tartare was the best I have eaten in my life!
Great evening at rioux & pettigrew
Coup de for this charming restaurant which welcomed us this Friday, December 6 for our Christmas dinner organized impeccably by our social club at our Remax office. We were around forty people. Excellent choice of restaurant to accommodate a good number of people! Service worthy of mention. Upon arrival, warm welcome from all guests in the kitchen & service. I discovered a large restaurant there with several sections, including the open kitchen. Everything was perfect! Thank you for the atmosphere, the magic of the quaint decor & the surprises on the plates with the attention to the flavors of the dishes & wine pairings. Very festive & unifying
Great atmosphere and discovery menu. Perfect for a dinner with friends or colleagues! I went there twice and the vegetarian menu is We had a wine during a service that we didnt really like and they immediately gave us another glass without us insisting. Awesome service! Vegetarian options: Vegetarian service
One of our best meals in Quebec city. We were lucky to get to sit in the window seat and had a delicious tasting menu.
Very good experience at the Saturday Brunch. Menu different from the norm. Very pleasant atmosphere. The waiter was a nice guy, with very good musical tastes! Shout out to the Austin Powers instrumental!! We will definitely return!
Absolutely loved this. Our waiter was incredible and the service was impeccable. But my goodness the food. We are from NYC and we are used to world class cuisine, and this was completely up to our standards. Even the blood pudding, which they are famous for but I never would have ordered if the waiter hadn t insisted we try, was magnificent. And the wine parings were phenomenal. We had four and didn t regret a single one. Highly recommend this restaurant. The only downside was that the lights were too bright and needed to be dimmed by about 20%.
An incredible dining experience! Exceptional service and atmosphere! If I could give 6 stars out of 5, that would be my rating!!!
We tried this restaurant on a Friday evening, by reservation and had the tasting menu. The service was exemplary. The quality and flavors were there. However, we enjoyed the dessert less, which, in our opinion, fits less well with the current season. However, we will certainly return there to try the à la carte meals, which seemed more generous to us than the tasting menu. However, if you want to experience a blind menu, this is a must try.
Excellent food! We tried three dishes to share, all delicious with a favorite being the black pudding. Thanks to Simon at the bar who made the experience even more enjoyable.
Excellent restaurant with excellent service. The cocktails are delicious and subtle. The dishes are tasty and amazing!!! A taste moment that awakened our taste buds.
Excellent, unique dishes, very flavourful. Great Service
Excellent food! Good service. Do not agree to be seated in the 2nd section, it greatly lacks atmosphere, it is very disappointing if we compare with the main room.
Incredible brunch, the best in Quebec! Big favorite
June 2024. Very nice place, attentive staff, a certain inventiveness on the plate, but hefty bill to satisfy your appetite! Few choices on the very limited menu, both for starters and main dishes. My partners main dish was a really insufficient portion. For my part, suffering from food allergies, we were unable to substitute the allergenic garnish of one of my dishes with another element (for example, replacing hazelnuts with almonds or something else): the first time that Its coming and yet Im at retirement age. After our meal (starter, main course and dessert) we were still hungry (!), a first in our lives, and therefore ordered the bread and cheese platter suggested as a starter (we never take the cheese platter, because afterwards a starter and a main course, we never have an appetite for that). Moreover, placing the cheese platter on the menu with the starters seemed incongruous to us. For our part, we will not return there. Dietary restrictions: Do not easily make substitutions in a dish if you suffer from food allergies.
I love the decoration
Impeccable service and very well advised by sommelier Ben! Its hard to choose the dish we liked the most, because everything was delicious!
Great crew!
We had an amazing dinner here! The charcuterie board was fantastic, the beef carpaccio was a favorite, and the dessert was incredible! Would highly recommend!!
Chefs menu: Beautiful execution of the dishes, very fresh and well balanced. On the other hand, the pairing was very weak and did not fit particularly well with the services. The dessert was way too sweet, which made for a very heavy ending.
It was a wonderful brunch experience.
We went to the restaurant this Sunday evening to try the menu offered as part of the Québec Table Gourmande event. We were 3 guests and sincerely LOVED the experience from A to Z. 2 of the guests were elderly and they were able to meet the need for a more quiet and comfortable place. Everything was super good, complemented each other well, full of flavors/textures/temperatures. Honestly I have nothing to say other than thank you for the excellent service, the warm atmosphere and the delicious meal. We will come back :)
An experience of flavors. Nice environment Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian dishes Kid-friendliness: Not much
Wonderful place - innovative food, great service. Highly recommend. We started with the burrata with beets - excellent. My husband had the pasta with mushrooms and cheese - it was excellent. I had the salmon, which was poached with fennel and peas - perfectly cooked.
Dietary restrictions: Accommode les personnes végétariennes Food
I virtually never give five stars on a first visit, but Chez Rioux & Pettigrew blew me away. Each course had so many layers of flavor and texture, with nothing out of harmony. Every wine pairing was on point and added to the experience of each dish. Top tier service.
There are almost no words.... we were three diners and enjoyed the chefs choice four course dinner. Each course was so well-prepared and so exquisite in complexity. We had a truly delightful experience. Thank you so much. Next time we are back in Quebec City, we may simply eat every dinner with you. Lovely service, too. So, so happy!
Excellent address, not to be missed if you are in Quebec. Everything was perfect, the welcome, the service, the cozy setting and the food. Very beautiful, original, tasty and refined cuisine. Special mention for the beef carpaccio and duck. Go for it !
Had a reservation, came on time and waited to be seated for 40 minutes. The service was rude. Food is average.
Almost perfect : we ordered a ceviche as an appetizer and it came out two same plates. We thought the kitchen was so thoughtful to divide the dish into two for us. Ended up, it charged us for two ceviche prices when we order one only.
Ambience was fantastic great music. The food was very special. Understand why they are rated so highly. Only misstep was something that must have happened in the kitchen. It took a long time for our entrees to be served. Others arriving later were served before we did.
Quality and service are perfect here. A young, creative team spoiled us with excellent food. We had dinner in the restaurant on two days during our stay in Quebec. On both days the service and food were excellent. The prices are okay. Be sure to reserve!
Food was good, prepared well but the ambiance was off. We were seated in the private area (white room) and it was too bright. We even asked to he seated in the other, more romantic room setting (looks.like the main room) and we were told they are all booked. I booked a week in advance of coming and it was only for 2 people so would have been easy to move us. So 4/5 for me. The feel of a fancy restaurant is very important
Attentive service. Delicious food. The bread and buckwheat butter were out of the world. Food : 5/5
Each dish perfectly prepared.
Thats one of the restaurants in Quebec that you want to go
Love it so much! You can feel different level of taste in the food which also feels exactly the passion and love of the chef who prepared all these delicious meals for you! I brought my whole family in and we truly enjoyed everything in this restaurant, highly recommended! It was a terrific Thanksgiving meal yesterday!
Great experience. The slow cooked salmon was one of the best ive ever had. My wife really enjoyed the cavatelli. The chocolate dessert was absolutely amazing.
Magnificent from top to bottom Intensely joyful decor, very endearing personalized service and a hand-made brunch with countless flavors Thank you for this magical moment
The food was great! We had the blood pudding and the mushroom pasta. The only downside was the incredibly slow service Between the moment we sat down and our fist bite of food (a loaf of bread we ordered), an 1h30 had passed, we then had to wait an other 30 minutes to have our appetizers and then an other 1h after for our mains. Waiting 2h to receive appetizers is too much even though they were actually really good! The ambience was great and we loved the fact that we had to go through the kitchen to go to our table, what an original experience! Would we go again? Yes for the food, no for the service. Maybe if you go on the first service (6:30pm) it s faster?
The food was good, not exceptional but good enough. Our waiter was very helpful as well. The reception was unnecessarily unwelcoming. My impression is that either she didnt want to serve us or, maybe a bit of racism mixed there in between. I cant tell for sure. I certainly did not have a good experience with the reception.
Ordered the fois gras, duck, salmon and Mille feuille dishes. Each ingredient complimented each other very well and the fall vegetables were very flavourful. The Mille feuille dessert was especially a standout (not too sweet)! I was worried portion sizes would not be sufficient but splitting an app, two mains and a dessert between two people left us full and satisfied.
Warm atmosphere with such charming decor. The food was divine the flavors, the freshness everything was there. The service was impeccable. A perfect evening
Good experience at Rioux and Pettigrew, the food and wine pairing is worth the detour. The food and wine were truly excellent. Exemplary service. The only downside is that the portions are not really generous, and as it is good, we would like a little more. For 2 cocktails, 2 exploration menus and 1 food and wine pairing it costs around $360 CAD.
The perfect upscale gastropub. We had the chefs tasting menu with the wine pairing and it was excellent! Delightful flavours and generous portions, cant wait to return.
We had the most wonderful dinner and overall experience dining here. The quaint comfortable atmosphere, the wine and the food were equally perfect, but our server, Ben, was was made our meal so memorable. He was kind, knowledgeable, attentive and genuinely cared about creating a special and memorable experience for us. We will recommend any/all friends visiting Quebec to dine there
Very friendly waiter. Advised us well. Great atmosphere. Attentive and attentive staff. Excellent food.
We had heard that the food in Quebec was exceptional, but Chez Rioux & Pettigrew completely exceeded our expectations! The dishes were not only delicious but also artfully presented, with flavors that were out of this world. Every bite was a delightful surprise. The friendly and attentive staff added to the overall experience, making us feel right at home. If you re in Quebec and looking for an unforgettable meal, Chez Rioux & Pettigrew is a must-visit. We ll definitely be back!
We were really excited to try the tasting menu, but at $80+ each, we had high expectations. The portions are to be expected but the soup appetizer was absolutely tiny and an odd arrangement of ingredients. We should have just ordered from the menu. The main dish was our favorite but the dessert was way too strong of a rose taste we couldn t eat it. I had come here years ago and loved the experience but this time not so much. Truly a disappointment as this was what I looked most forward to on my trip. The staff and ambiance were great though
Still thinking about the amazing dinner we had when visiting Quebec for the first time last year. The atmosphere is unlike any other restaurant I ve eaten at before. We were taken through the kitchen area to our seating in the dining area which was such a different experience. To this day my dad and I have talked about how great the seared beef dish was - definitely worth getting a reservation and trying this restaurant when you are visiting Quebec City!
Excellent cuisine, excellent service, I highly recommend!
Excellent meal and just perfect service! Well done!!
Where to start . Its difficult to understand the rating that this restaurant has obtained over time. We gave it one last chance this evening (went there a few times). Epicureans and fans of the largest and smallest restaurants, I believe that we are able to comment honestly and objectively. Essentially, the alcohol (cocktails) and wine side is their strength. From a food point of view, it s not up to par despite the creativity we want to put forward. For example, a fillet of beef with prawns for $52 with two small pieces of meat and an overcooked shrimp is a bit of a laugh. Their foie gras starter is actually a mousse and not a piece of real foie gras as it should be. There is a lack of servers, and therefore, despite a very pleasant and competent server, the service is very slow. Our impression is that their clientele is tourist. Not really geared towards connoisseurs. Its hot in this restaurant because the waiters are oozing and we have to ask to open the windows. In short, for having tried again and knowing good restaurants in Quebec and elsewhere, we must recognize the effort but the failure.
Wonderful experience at our first stop quebec city, creative and delicious cuisines here, nice service
Seeing the ratings our expectations were high, but we left disappointed. There were 5 of us who took the tasting menu at $85 p.p. for my fathers party... 95% of everything we ate was vegetables. A small gazpacho, a scallop ceviche without any scallop really, and for our main course there were only 4 poor little slices of duck. I dont see how to justify the price! Although our waitresses were nice, they were a little clueless and we had difficulty understanding the presentation of the dishes. The only positive point was the decor. Too bad but it was a bad experience, especially for this price!
Rioux & Pettigrew deserves all your attention. The quality and attention in the service and the amazing food will leave you speechless. A must-go in Quebec City!
Amazing restaurant with great food
We did the Experience and it was the best dinner we had in QC.
A must try spot in Quebec City! It was suprisingly filling, extremely adorable and delicoius at the same time. Im recomending it to everyone I know.
A lovely meal of fresh ingredients with an exquisite presentation. Our table had rabbit, duck, pasta, and salmon.
Beautiful country atmosphere! Good service
We had an amazing dinner - the Experience menu was fantastic. It was a blind tasting which adds to the fun.
Nestled in the heart of Quebec, this address is undoubtedly one of my favorites. Each visit is a renewed satisfaction, which is a real feat for a palate as demanding as mine. The fine cuisine, warm atmosphere, and carefully selected wine list keep me coming back again and again. A special mention to the staff, whose professionalism and friendliness add a touch of perfection to each meal. An unmissable address, to which I can only warmly invite you.
Discovery menu with wine pairing. A wonderful epicurean couples treat. Superb discoveries, atmosphere, service (thank you Benjamin ), flavors. We will go back without any hesitation (and with our children next time)! Thanks to the whole team!! Your passion can be tasted on the plate, I was on the verge of tears!
A beautiful summer evening on July 27, 2024. Romantic evening, table near the windows and view of the silos of the old port of Quebec! The atmosphere is extraordinary and attentive, entering through Saint-Paul we pass through the kitchens... from that moment we already feel that it will be a special evening where the little details count. Tasting menu with wine pairing which is explained by Benjamin. Wow, we fell in love with this gentleman, his explanations are like music...through these words and his contagious passion we cant wait to discover the flavors that await us! Sated, we left the place on cloud nine, not forgetting to congratulate the brigade for the quality of the dishes, their freshness and the experience they provide. Being from the beautiful city of Quebec, we will definitely come back!
I went for a brunch for 3 and then I really appreciated the service of the place, we walked through the kitchen and then the person really seemed to appreciate their work, the pride on their face! We were served and welcomed like kings and the food was very tasty. Its definitely worth the detour and its a truly luxurious place in Quebec City! I really recommend the place to all lovers of luxury gastronomy! Well done Rioux & Pettigrew 5 stars!
Excellent food, impeccable service. The only downside was that it was hot in the restaurant.
Great Café, especially the window tables on a nice day. Food was great and service excellent!
Part of the restaurant was really too hot but we were moved to another air-conditioned section. Much appreciated. I would invest in more comfortable chairs. The service was excellent with a young server who knew his wines and the pairings. Excellent food. To date my favorite in Qc; well go back there, thats for sure. Its worth the trip. We were even able to make me my special mojito ;)
This was our second visit. The first time we loved it, but the second time not so much. It was extremely hot, and the stewardess could not move us to the front room which is cooler. The two small window air conditioners were insufficient for a dining room of this size. However, the server service was courteous and welcoming. As for the food, we preferred our first visit. For a restaurant of this standing, I think it is crucial that the room is properly air-conditioned.
We had a fabulous meal here on our first night in Quebec! We had a three course meal, beginning with a cheese plate that came with an incredible focaccia, a butternut squash spread, and various nuts. Next we had halibut ceviche, which was superb, along with the beef carpaccio. We finished it off with a strawberry crème pastry for dessert, which was one of the best desserts I ve ever had. Our server was top-notch. Much love from Texas!
Lunch meal not very suitable for a pregnant woman (or someone with restrictions or a child) and no possibility of an alternative since there is only 1 choice of plate on the menu. Eggs not sufficiently cooked despite the initial mention of pregnancy and the need for precautions. Staff seem poorly informed, because we were told that such and such food was ok when ultimately the brownie was not completely cooked for example (risk with eggs not completely cooked inside). In short, not for everyone. Sought after food with good taste, but not for big appetites. No flexibility in price either, because only 1 choice of plate. Find out about the menu before choosing this restaurant! Very good service though. Warm staff. The waitress brought back a dish of overcooked eggs when requested (which could have been done from the start, however). Not all chairs were comfortable, including one which had a hole under the cushion. Dietary restrictions: Not for a pregnant woman. Menu not suitable for children either.
This was the best dinner restaurant we visited during our 4-day trip to Quebec City. The experience was exceptional, and the food was outstanding, making all the restaurants we tried afterward seem dull in comparison. We had the tasting menu, which included two appetizers, one entrée, and one dessert. We left feeling very full and super satisfied.
BAD EXPERIENCE! The waiter suggested we order two main courses per person. Way too much food ! Huge bill! Huge tip! We felt cheated!
Nothing disappointed. Highly recommend.
A dining experience. Outstanding!
Amazing food. Amazing experience. Do the chefs tasting menu. You wont regret it. My wife and I have been here twice and it gets better each time. The service is also excellent. Last night the power went out due to tropical storm Debby and they somehow still pulled everything off. Awesome!
We had a lovely evening at this restaurant. We particularly enjoyed the cavatelli dish which had a lot of interesting elements in terms of taste and textures which all went very well together. The rabbit dish was a bit disappointing though. Particularly the rabbit itself was dry and not very tasty and set apart from the rest of the plate without sauce. I could have done without the green peas too. The mille-feuille dessert had several very good elements individually, but they didnt work very well together... Like the sour strawberry sauce was good, but its not a good accompaniment for puff pastry and light whipped cream ... The service was good, but a little slow at times. In short, a lot of excellent elements, but also a lot of things to improve for a 5 star.
Simon behind the bar is incredible! Thanks for the creative cocktails, and the 4-course blind menu is perfect
We had our best dinner ever here in Canada. The food was amazing. The service was perfect. And the place has a calmness and atmosphere that allows to enjoy every step in the dinner experience. Highly recommended.
Chic and relaxed restaurant. The dishes are a delight. The service is impeccable. Vegetarian options: Several vegetarian options Dietary restrictions: They adapt very easily to your needs
Very nice degustation menu, excellent first 3 courses, desert could have been a little bit more creative and tasty, super wine pairing
Their set brunch was a truly unique and delightful experience for my mother and me. Everything was utterly delicious. Impeccable service. Not to be missed!!
We visited Rioux and Pettigrew restaurant in Quebec for the first time, and it was an incredible experience. The service was exceptional, attentive and warm, which made our evening even more enjoyable. The dishes were not only delicious, but also beautifully presented. This great restaurant is definitely a must for anyone looking for a memorable culinary experience in Quebec!
What more can I say than 5 Very pleasant dishes, lovely freshness! It was great! Thanks to Benoit for the food and wine pairing! Magnificent discoveries!
Great discovery. Warm but slightly colder atmosphere in the dining room which seems related to the real dining room. Excellent service. A highly sought-after meal full of delicacies and inviting flavors. The decor is really good.
We had an outstanding dining experience at Chez Rioux & Pettigrew. The food was exceptional, and the service was top-notch. The entire evening far exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend!
Neat and original cuisine
Had an incredible dinner here. Coming from NYC where every French restaurant serves croque monseur, duck confit, escargot, and pate, this place was an authentic delight! Clearly a lot of thought and care went into this menu and we had a lot of dishes and desserts wed never had before. Exactly what we wanted out of a trip to Quebec. It seemed less busy than the spots on the main tourist strip. Worth the trip over a few blocks!
Very overpriced. Was not even full after finishing both the appetizer and main dish so had to order another main dish. Do not recommend the burger at all, the patty was very bad.
Such a memorable experience. Laid back vibe with excellent servers knowledgeable about what they serve for food and drinks. Everything was stellar, and the hidden treat is that beer list. The prix fixe option are different items than what is served on the menu, so it is a tough choice on which is best. Just know everything is great!
Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable in culinary and wine suggestions
How can I put it... Going through the kitchens to get to your table, being treated to exemplary service, top quality food, a perfect food/wine pairing... Its simply perfect!
A truly special experience. There is passion and excitement in everything from the food to the energy and attention of the staff. We had the cheese board and oysters, prepared with local Quebec ingredients. The main dishes of mushroom covatelli and rabbit were elevated simple ingredients to extraordinary heights. Finishing with a raspberry choux pastry and strawberry mint pastry ended a perfect meal. The best weve had in all Quebec!
Exceptional restaurant, exceptional food. Lunch and dinner everything is perfect. Special mention to Benjamin, thank you for the good suggestions and the 5 star service.
It was truly exceptional. One of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at. In addition, impeccable service!
Fantastic! William, our server, was attentive, informative, and a delight. He even enlisted the help of another server when we asked for recommendations on what to do in the area. We were there for brunch. The food was amazing and we loved the family style. Homemade croissants baked fresh that morning melted in your mouth. Cozy and warm, they accommodated our group of eight easily. A little off the beaten track, so not touristy at all. Near the water, but walking distance to The Frontenac. We would definitely visit again when in the area. We highly recommend!
Beyond yummy
Such a lovely place. We sat at the bar, Jeremy was amazing!
Didnt like the blood pudding I ordered. But the risotto was wonderful.
This was our last dinner in Quebec city, we saved the best for last! Had a great meal here. 7 18.
Absolutely delicious! We went for Sunday brunch and couldnt have been happier. The food was incredible, the service a pleasure, and the atmosphere was charmingly rustic. Would definitely recommend for a lovely brunch!
Brunch was absolutely delightful, the eggs and pork belly were my favorite, and I really enjoyed the desserts too, in perfect portions to enjoy them all, beautiful presentation and delicious.
My favorite restaurant - ever!
We showed up on a busy night with no reservation. They apologized and put us in a spot they said wasnt very good. Turns out it was a charming little spot by the kitchen. They couldnt have been nicer and the food, atmosphere and cocktails were the best weve had in a long while. The manager and bartender took such good care. Top of our list when we return.
Exceptional food, service too long and got my plate wrong, they politely offered me a cheese plate to share.
Super nice restaurant, varied and excellent menu
Tout etait super Vegetarian options: Several vegetarian options and accommodating chefs Food : 5/5 |
Menu is limited for vegetarians.
Excellent welcome. We took the blind tasting menu with excellent wine pairing and what can we say about our young server Grégoire who without him the experience would not have been complete. His authenticity, his experience, his knowledge make him an exemplary server.
Chose this restaurant based on reviews and was excited to eat here. Tonight was a new menu , and sadly that meant that for some reason the wheels completely came off the process. We waited for two hours and received some bread and cheese and a ceviche course. And that was it. Nothing else arrived. We eventually had to call it, and asked for the bill. We still had to pay 150 dollars for some wine and cheese. I felt bad for the waiting staff who kept trying to pour the wine we had paid for and offer more water. When we said we were leaving, they weren t equipped with how to handle us, and offered no compensation. Finally the restaurant was very hot and others were leaving without their food. Sadly a complete disaster.
When the wheels come off here they COME OFF! Be prepared to spend 2 (hot) hours and over $150 to eat bread and cheese and wine. The rest of your meal won t arrive and you will pay 100% for your wait and even be asked for tip. I m not complaining about the food that did arrive - it was as described. But it took us and others around us to chase, ask what was happening and the front of house team were not equipped or trained to handle this basic level of customer care. I usually don t make negative reviews, but the prices this restaurant is charging they need to get it right and if they don t - they need to know how to provide some basic customer service!
As the two previous posts from tonight stated , my wife and I had a bad experience at Chez Rioux and Pettigrew. The tasting menu portions were very small and the entree was lukewarm not hot. Our waiter stated it was under a heating lamp. The food took so long that we asked for bread and butter which we were charged $16. After 2.5 hours we left without the last course and we were only compted for the dessert we didnt receive. The staff was friendly but also did not handle the situation well. This is my first restaurant review.
Excellent restaurant! We opted for the discovery menu which was a delight from start to finish. Great service, beautiful decoration, friendly team, quality ingredients, in short nothing to complain about.
I had the 4-course secret tasting menu, in which the dishes aren t described in advance. I was pleasantly surprised throughout, however, as each course was inventively prepared and delicious. The decor is informal but very comfortable, and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. The best meal I ve had in Quebec!
We went into this blind as there was no English menu online that we could find and we were rewarded with a most amazing dining experience. From a charming, cozy ambiance to courteous, attentive and knowledgeable staff to an amazing, delectable creative dining experience. From cocktail through dessert, the chef and staff here provide an adventure for both eyes and taste buds.
One of our favorite restaurants in Quebec! Everything is always excellent (food, atmosphere, service). As for meals, dishes that are both surprising and well balanced. We cant wait to go back!
The food was so flavoursome. Superb!
I saved this restaurant for our last evening in QC, and so glad I did. It was the best meal we had in town. The room is charming, the staff is uber-professional and laid back, and the food is phenomenal. Cocktails were flawless. Our server was sweet and knowledgable and answered some fun translation questions about the slang names of the dishes (they all have a phrase as their name). It is very worth seeking this place out in a somewhat deserted area in the port. I will recommend this place to everyone going to QC. À bientôt!
Beautiful, friendly place with the kitchens clearly visible between the two dining rooms. Excellent Sunday brunch. (April 2024: New brunch formula to share, still just as good)
Spotted during a night walk, I couldnt wait to discover this establishment the next day. Immediately, we fall under the spell of the decor, the attentive welcome, the hostess explains to us the rather original concept of the menu. The service is efficient and the dishes are delicious! The Clockwork Orange smoothie is worth the detour! Special mention for the pork flan, blood sausage and chocolate coulis. We come out with a full stomach and our heads still under the spell of the decor and the welcome. Are we going back there? Most certainly!
4/28/2024 - Dinner - Table for 2 OVERALL: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 - Rustic We did not have reservations, but were able to get a table. Probably because it was Sunday evening. The food was excellent and the service was top notch. We had - Fresh bread and butter - Cauliflower Crème Brûlée - light and delicate. - Mushroom Risotto - PIUZE NON-DOSÉ , MÉTHODE TRADITIONNEL. - SAINT-GEORGES-SAINT-ÉMILION 2019 Vegetarian options: Multiple vegetarian options available
Great discovery, we had lunch there and we loved our experience, good food and very good service. I recommend.
Delicious food perfectly executed! Highly recommend this place
A magnificent discovery for our first evening in Quebec! I recommend this restaurant with my eyes closed. The quality/price ratio is more than correct. We opted for the blind service which delighted our taste buds. The associated pairing was also perfect, great discoveries in terms of wines. Special mention for the welcome of the restaurant which is impeccable. The servers are very pleasant and put us at ease very quickly. The cozy and friendly atmosphere also allows us to feel good throughout the meal. Go there with your eyes closed!
Very good service and tasty meals. Too bad though its a bit noisy.
A beautiful building with superb decoration and young and very friendly staff. We loved the cauliflower crème brûlée and the lobster with fiddleheads . Unforgettable experience. Thank you all.
Frankly, I was charmed by the decor.... I who love the antique look, its without a doubt very successful..... personally, the food is good but the portions are too small for the price. ...but thats up to me.......thanks again to all the staff....
Excellent restaurant. There were four of us. Perfect oysters. Excellent salmon. Exquisite desserts. Really highly recommended
We were passing through Quebec for a romantic weekend. I highly recommend this restaurant, its a must. Each dish is presented with care and is delicious. The tuna tataki is to die for. Ben our server/sommelier gave us incredible service and an evening. These food/wine pairings are perfect. Thank you very much Ben!!!! The place is magnificent, I really highly recommend it!
Great experience at this establishment. I highly recommend! Not only is the service impeccable, but the staff is exceptionally kind. We tried the 4 course tasting experience, and everyone absolutely loved it!
The service was good, we sat at the bar and I really liked out bar tender. The cocktails were too sweet and not super well balanced, tho I think this would be fine for the average person. The meal was good. We got the tasting menu and I think the first and third dish were the best. The second and third were a bit lost in too many flavours. Overall good but now a 10/10 recommendation.
This is my boyfriend and I s favourite restaurant of all time. We currently live in Ottawa and plan a trip to Quebec at least once a year, purely to come to this restaurant. Every time we ve dined, we ve done the tasting menu with wine pairings and it has never once let us down. Every aspect of each dish is mindblowingly delicious and visually, they are works of art. The restaurant itself feels as if you re dining in someone s home or apartment. It s so cozy and inviting. Our favourite is the dining room in the back which overlooks the water. The host walks you through the kitchen to get there and you re greeted by the chefs! Such a fun element. We recommend this restaurant to everyone. An absolute must try!
Delicious dishes, impeccable service and charming decor
Fantastic brunch
Incredible experience for a corporate event! The Rioux team was open to adapting the room and menu to meet the needs of our event. Extraordinary service, courteous employees, delicious food, great atmosphere :)
I had dinner with my friend at this place. The experience was incredible. I highly recommend choosing the Chez Rioux & Pettigrew experience with wine paring. Nothing better than unique dishes created by professional chefs and the choice of wines that taste perfectly with the palate. I recommend it and I will definitely come back here next time in Quebec.
A gem of a restaurant with a fabulous boho chic meets thrift store vibe. The three of us went with the chefs choice and did not regret it at all. Attentive staff, complex but not overly fussy dishes beautifully presented. Oh, and the flavours, swoon.
Very good service from William! It was perfect!
A simply extraordinary evening in a warm and authentic atmosphere. Tasty, well-balanced and original dishes, in a more than perfect food and wine pairing. And what about our excellent server Wiliam?! Funny and friendly. Thank you for the wonderful evening. We will definitely come back!
Wow! What a beautiful evening. Excellent value for money! A refined culinary experience combined with attentive service and competent advice...We highly recommend it.
Gourmet style. Very good food, quality and service.
Super restaurant, brilliant blind tasting menu. Thanks to the team
I chose the special menu and they surprised me with every dish, it was my birthday dinner and it was phenomenal

Delicious lunch menus. See you soon! Very good restaurant. Particularly pleasant and personalized service. Staff attentive to customers. Second time Ive been there, second time its excellent! This is a restaurant with modest portions, so if youre expecting a mountain on your plate, youre going to be disappointed.
Amazing food, service and atmosphere! The employees take great care, the dishes are explained from A to Z and are delicious!
Exceptional service, beautiful atmosphere, very interesting discovery menu and high quality cuisine
Delicious meal, correct portions, friendly and courteous service. We did not take the surprise menu but dishes from the regular menu and we were not disappointed. The cauliflower crème brulée is divine... A great experience and a great evening.
Absolutely delicious meal with perfect wine pairings. Will definitely return next time Im in Qc City
Really excellent meal. The service was perfect, they really paid attention to our dietary constraints. I will come back without hesitation!
The place was small and cozy, and the food was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the pork belly main, it is rare to find a place that can prepare amazing succulent pork belly.
Food and experience were incredible.
The food was some of the best Ive had in the city. Service was effective and professional.
Delicious 4-course tasting menu! Very nice mix of flavors and textures. Impeccable service. Strongly recommended !
An incredible restaurant in Quebec! Whether for lunch or a completely delicious dinner, it s worth the trip. The menu changes regularly, the waiters are completely friendly and the privately imported wine is excellent. The decor is vintage and brings a style different from the others.
Excellent evening with fantastic personalized service. I recommend the place!
We chose the menu blindly with food & wine pairing and it was sublime!!! Restaurant to absolutely try!
Went here for my wifes birthday in January. Made a reservation in advance but it was not overly busy. This was one of the best meals we have had in years. We did the preset chefs menu, every course was delicious. Will be coming back again next time we are in Quebec City, highly recommend.
Great experience
Sadly this was the last night of my stay in Canada and I absolutely loved the restaurant, very warmly furnished and with a lovely staff. The food was great, we shared a plate of cheese (28 cad) then I had a fish tataki (28 cad) and shared a tarte tatin as a dessert (15 cad). I also tasted a very good raviolo (very big) for 29 cad and drank a bottle of Cabernet at 83 cad. The only minor drawback is that the menu is not clear, especially the distinction between starters and main course, which was the reason why I ordered I starter as a main course, I recommend the restaurant to modify the visual setup. For the rest, nothing to complain, it was a beautiful night.
A place with a lot of charm, plenty of space, with simple and effective decor. Impeccable and very informed service. Hot dishes, well presented and with a super ingenious and well-organized menu. It was a great evening. Medi.
The dining experience was fantastic. Loved having a cozy window table with heated blankets. The staff was wonderful and fluently switched between English and French.
Excellent!! Everything we tried was delicious and the service was impeccable!
Honest dishes well executed. Booked by chance at the last minute as was not at all disappointed. Easy to fall into a tourist trap when dining in Quebec City, this was not the case. Hospitality was equally well conducted, light and jovial. Merci à notre serveur Simon. We will come again. I recommend you go for the tasting menu, we were stuffed by the end.
Food was amazing - taste great and plated beautifully. I liked how the server explained whats on the plate when they served it to us. Highly recommend this restaurant - fine dining at reasonable price.
We tried the tasting menu for dinner and the food was a little disappointing. My partner and I had pretty bad diarrhea after our dinner so the food was prob not well prepared. The tasting menu has 4 courses - cold appetizer, hot appetizer, main and dessert. The main was seared venison which I thought was too tough to chew. The dessert was prob the best dish. Overall, felt the food wasnt worth the hype. Service was really good though. The staff was attentive and gave us a good explanation of the wine pairing.
Very nice place and very very good.
Excellent Service. We opted for the Chefs plate and wine pairings. You have no knowledge of what will be served, and we were not dissapointed.
For real, I did this like a real chef, a small restaurant in the Vieux, 4-course tasting table where I added, even before arriving by telephone, a bottle of sparkling wine with super fine bubbles and a tray of oysters which were of unparalleled quality and a little ebiscus mousse to impress. Then arrived the second addition, a platter of homemade bread and local cheeses. Then the 4 courses with pairing began, 4 dishes concocted and thought out with care. For the first course: a salmon tartare, smoked and lime gel with a white wine lightly aged in barrels for 1 month, a yellow wine which was perfect. Seriously, I have never eaten such a perfect pairing in my life! Second course, a squash gnocchi style pasta in an herb cream sauce, prosciutto and cheddar tile, decadent! Third, a bison fillet, cocoa ice cream sauce and parsnip puree with Jerusalem artichoke and fried vegetables, a marvel, served with a superb red which only made this dish even more delicious. And fourth course, a chocolate dessert which was of unparalleled richness, accompanied by a wine. Absolutely perfect dessert for this dish. And to finish at the bill, a small, simple and perfectly executed canelé. All for less than $400 all inclusive, I think my evening was extraordinary. Please know that I would like to thank all the kitchen staff, the chef for this superb beautiful menu, the service of the waiters, the attention of the sommelier and especially the person who took my reservation who was my sidekick to make this evening our 5 years of memorable marriage. Thank you all.
At the entrance, an excellent waiting room which allowed us to wait for the slight delay in our reservation while having exclusive access to the kitchen. Blind or a la carte menu. The first takes into account food preferences and intolerances. Finally, a delicious gourmet dinner and impeccable service. Dietary restrictions: The restaurant adapts to the restrictions!
Very nice evening
We had the LExperience menu and were not disappointed. Good quality ingredients and a nice combination of flavors and textures. Friendly service, quiet atmosphere. We recommend!
Exceptional food . Great dining experience
A very warm atmosphere, impeccable service and what can we say about our blind menu! Everything was delicious
Excellent food/adventure in a remarkable setting. The service is one of the best I have seen. I highly recommend.
Great discovery in Quebec. The food is excellent, as is the service. Opt for the tasting menu. A faultless one.
We went for Sunday brunch and it was truly special. Book way in advance and count down the days till this highly memorable experience.
Top-notch service in this effortlessly classy yet relaxed establishment. The unique touch of passing through the kitchen en route to our table added to the experience. Opting for the brunch, a delightful array of sweet and savory dishes awaited, and every bite was a winner. Without a doubt, Id wholeheartedly recommend this place 100%.
Came here at the last night of our long weekend visiting the city to celebrate an anniversary, left immensely satisfied! We did the 4 course tasting menu and were delighted to both try foods we had never eaten before and be pleasantly surprised when some dishes included foods we already know we love. I enjoyed how each dish at least tonight had one ingredient in common between them which tied things together. The portions were perfect, staff all very welcoming and friendly, timing between dishes was just right. Very warm atmosphere. Could not say enough good things about this restaurant.
