Chez Temporel, fier de servir ses clients depuis bientôt 50 ans! Découvrez sa nouvelle ambiance de style bistro et son nouveau menu qui vous permettra de déguster des plats changeant en fonction des arrivages de saison.
Stopped here for lunch after reading about it. My wife is a huge french onion soup lover and someone said they had the best in town. She was actually pretty angry because she didn’t get much cheese on her soup and the guy next to us got a ton. I kept telling her she got the less because we are Americans . Regardless, the soup was exceptional it has incredible flavor and I agree it is one of the best French Onion soups i’ve had. She also got a burger and I got the Seafood pie. It was basically Shepard pie with shrimp and scallops. And was very very satisfying. The only draw back is that I am a fat f and the tables are spaced pretty close together. Not a lot of room to move. Otherwise, the food , the service and the price made for a wonderful lunch.
Stumbled into this cute spot without a reservation on a Sunday night. The service was great and the food was delicious. We were even treated to a delicious crème brûlée!! Favorite dish was the fois gras. I would recommend :)
Adorable place, funny waiter and scrumptious food. The hollandaise eggs over spinach were the best I’ve ever had. My son enjoyed the Croque-Monsier and my daughter loved the frittata. Portions were solid. Would go back for sure.
Great service, and incredible food! We walked in without a reservation, and the downstairs looked quite busy. Luckily they were able to still sit us as they actually have a second floor which was almost empty and very quiet (which we preferred) Ordered the Beef Tartare and the French Onion soup and they were both very good. Some of the best I've tried! We ordered some beers and everything came quite quick. Really happy with the location and quality of the restaurant and food. Thanks!
Super cute place for a meal. I had lunch here at happy hour. The French onion soup was delicious and very warming on a cold day. The fisherman’s pie was amazing and the scallops were cooked well. Not sure was the salad dressing was, but it was my favorite.
I went to this restaurant yesterday! The food was amazing! That was the first meal we take in Quebec city, and today I stay in another restaurant and finish the second day dinner right now, and I realize this might be the best French restaurant in the whole city! If you don’t order wine the price won’t go that high.
Chez Temporel is a well-known spot in Quebec City, and we had high expectations for our brunch. We ordered the Croque-Monsieur and Eggs Benedict. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the cafe's reputation. While it wasn't bad, it didn't stand out as exceptional either. On a positive note, the service was excellent. Our waiter was friendly and helpful, which made our visit more pleasant. Overall, a decent experience, but we were hoping for a bit more given the cafe's fame.
The food was best we had in Canada. The atmosphere is amazing. We ended up coming back multiple times for breakfast and dinner because nothing could beat it. Recommend: eggs Benedict and beef shoulder!
My partner and I had a wonderful dinner here. The mushroom risotto is one of the best dishes we have ever had. We also tried their seasonal dessert which was a strawberry basil Yule Log. Amazing! Our server was Flora and she was so incredibly kind. We will definitely come back the next time we are in Québec.
BEST PLACE WE ATE IN QUEBEC!!!! THE DRINKS WERE PERFECTION; THE FOOD, DIVINE; AND THE STAFF .OWNERS AND OTHERS WERE SO PERSONABLE . EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE VERY BUSY!!! TOOK THE TIME TO CHAT WITH US AS WE ENJOYED DRINKS, APPETIZERS, SOUPS, MAINS .OMGOSH I COULD GO ON AND ON ..BEST ESCARGOTS ANYWHERE! TOO BAD THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A HIGHER STAR THAN 5
Super cute place with personalized service. Food was great (risotto was amazing) and warmed me up on a cold day, well priced for the area, quality of product and service. Vegetarian options: Mushroom risotto
FANTASTIC MEAL!! I hardly ever write reviews but this place was amazing!!! It s a hidden gem with excellent food, great staff, and cozy vibe. I had the mushroom risotto with duck confit and it is probably one of the best meals I ve ever had!! Do not miss this if you are in Québec City!!!!
An amazing place with everything, if you want to have breakfast come here
Amazing artichoke dip. All dishes are delicate, with large quantities. It s a must-see address in Quebec.
Super delicious!!
While traveling quebec my wife and i found this place on accident. The first day we came here for the lunch menu and it was so great that we had to come back for dinner. The highlights in terms of food where the mushroom risotto with duck, the fishermans pie and especially the artichoke dip (absolute must try). all the staff were incredibly nice but especially Flora on the second night was incredibly friendly. amazing place, huge recommendation
Good food in a pleasant and calm atmosphere, with good music in the background. The staff is really friendly.
Hidden gem in the heart of old Quebec. Excellent food and great service!
A hidden restaurant on Rue Couillard in the middle of Old Quebec. Where the locals go. Only those who know this restaurant know that at the end of a much less busy street than Rue Saint-Jean, is this magnificent restaurant. Chez Temporel is a neighborhood bistro open since 1974! Yes at the time of this review the restaurant is 50 years old! When you enter, you feel at home, an atmosphere that I find family and friendly to share a good meal for all occasions. Good cocktails, nice selection of wines, the meals are delicious and the desserts are to die for Small menu. Great quality. The onion soup and maple syrup pie are clearly among the best in town! Perfect value for money! I highly recommend 10/5 ! Parking: No parking on site. Either in the neighboring streets or the SPAQ Hôtel de Ville or SPAQ DYouville. Kid-friendliness: A childrens option available. Wheelchair accessibility: 2 steps to the entrance.
The food, drinks and service were excellent at this quaint and atmospheric restaurant. Definitely worth a visit to this little tucked away place.
Beautiful little restaurant with great food and service. Cozy, charming. Great French menu.
Dropped in for wine and fois gras, and was treated so well by the charming bartenders. After a long day of driving, this was medicine. Thank you, lovely people.
Small charming restaurant bar. Quiet. The food is good and the team is adorable
Great meal, very good cuisine and quality service!
Louis is killing it
A little joy to spend time in this charming place!
Amazing food and coffee, everything fresh and the ambience really nice. Excellent service from the staff, including the Argentinian guy (sorry lad, you told me your name and I forgot in 15 secs), is really nice to have some latin vibe also, makes you feel more at home! Of course I will be back in a next contract with the cruise ship!
I got a takeaway coffee from here and only drank half of it because it didn t taste right. The staff were very nice, atmosphere looked great and the food looked yum. I would come back to try dine in. But wouldn t bother with a take away coffee when there are so many options around.
It s really great delicious food, great service, Soup of the day, Duck foie gras, apple declinaison, MUSHROOMS RISOTTO (Add duck confit), AAA CANADIAN FLANK STEAK, DESSERT OF THE MOMENT are all very delicious Friends order BEEF TARTAR and GRENOBLE COD with the same high quality
An incredible dining experience. Very comfortable atmosphere, family service and cuisine oh lala the cuisine, visually a delight that makes our mouths water and which confirms to us at the first butcher that the chefs master their cooking!!! Without a doubt one of the best meals I have had the chance to eat in Quebec. It was my first visit but not the last!! Thank you at Temporal for this discovery. 10/10
Loved this small off the Main Street bistro. Mix of tourists and locals.
Wonderful cozy place with very good cuisine. The owner Luis is so friendly that I have impression we are old friends. Foie gras and fishermen s pie were especially good.
I m giving them three stars this time because I was truly disappointed for the food. I felt like it s was too pricey for what we got. It s our second time there and the first time was over the top and over extraordinary! I don t know what happened this time. My main dish was the morue at $38, didn t quite appreciate it. The burger that my boyfriend took was good though!
Nice small bistro away from the busy streets to relax and enjoy your drink.
Amazing food and amazing drinks The atmosphere is unique Food
Great good and service, just off the busy tourist street but easy to get to. Nice and quiet compared to the tourist spots right around the corner. Local vibe with great food
Portion is too small. After eating the main course my whole family and I dont feel like we have eaten anything. Food quality is nothing to shout about and we spent like over $20 per person. Dont think its value for money.
Amazing food and the coolest and kindest staff.
What a nice restaurant. Cozy, approachable. Delicious food small menu which is great. Good service.
excellent small little place with impeccable service, excellent chefs and ambiance. of the hat to the drink mixers, really amazing!
Incredible dinner at Chez Temporel! We tasted the beef tartare, the Gravlax salad as well as the dessert of the moment and everything was absolutely perfect. One of the best beef tartares I have tasted! Thank you again for this beautiful moment!
We found this place by chance, we stayed at a rental across the street. We had dinner one night and went back for lunch. Staff superb, food excellent!
Excellent service and very good menus.
Warm, friendly, you feel at home. I love this place, its a must for me on all my visits when I come to Quebec. A well-kept secret!
This wonderful cafe has delicious food and friendly service. A secret gem that is off the beaten path. Cafe Temporel is also featured in the local required reading book, Felix au Cafe Temporel. Food
French onion soup and beef tartare are a safe bet! Thanks Luisa & Mike
Very nice place and barely far from the main street which allows you to be more peaceful! Very friendly service, fairly minimalist menu but very good meal!
Ooooohmygod! I havent been there, just passed by, but I will always have the address in mind.. really! The street already has a je ne sais quoi, lets add a little restaurant out of our hectic and stressful lives! Wooooooooow! One day it will be my turn to go!
Came for a cold drink, had lunch and wine, and an amazing beer, carrot soup was incredible compliments to chef
Warm place located away from the touristy streets, the welcome is very friendly and the cuisine is quality. I highly recommend. We will come back. Thank you for your welcome.
Lost in the middle of an ultra-touristy area, we almost got scammed by a woman who was too insistent. Then, moving away, and based on great comments, we decided to go up to old Quebec to join Chez Temporel... The boss, his mother-in-law and the kitchen gave us the best restaurant of our month-long trip to Canada ! The children had a great time (especially the big one with his croque-monsieur) and the adults too (the cheesecake and the draft beers are to die for...) ! Thank you again for this lovely moment
good
Gorgeous
For the price we paid the food was barely edible. Boiled potato borderline tasteless, average burger looks fansy just because the bread is black, bland croque monsieur.... For $80 we expected better. On the positive side, the service was excellent.
Charming restaurant on a quiet street. The eggs benedict were good and the cheesecake was excellent! Much nicer atmosphere than the restaurants along busy streets while being right in the center
Portion sizes were small and the taste was subpar. Scallop crudo consisted of maybe half a scallop and some vegetables served in vinegar. No depth of flavor at all. Do not know why so many people rated this place high and why it is a two dollar sign establishment. Maybe it came under new management and the new owners stomped on the place with a dirty shoe.
A peaceful café that embraces a vintage style between Quebec and the European style of old Quebec! 5 star
Wonderful foods, they were so delicious. Nice and friendly services. The atmosphere for eating at there was so relax and happy. Vegetarian options: The salad they made for my husband who is a pre-diabetic was so good. Kid-friendliness: My daughter very enjoyed the lobster rice they made. So delicious.
Perfect for dinner with my wife :)
Food was delicious but very expensive and tiny portions. The server short changed us $20 and asked for tip. I think she just made a math error but nonetheless I found that someone demanding certain % for tip in front of the customer just not very Canadian thing to do. No wonder that other restaurants had long lines but this place was empty.
Tucked away on a side street off the beaten path, Chez Temporal is well worth a visit. It s not large, the menu is not lengthy and the dishes aren t huge, but the food is special in every way. We had the cheese plate, duck tartre, octopus with squid ink pasta, scallops crudo, lobster risotto and beef; all were deliciously unique.
Lunch was good, dinner is much better. Is in a little alley away from all the noise and activities. It is actually much larger inside than expected. Food : 4/5
Perfect brunch spot. Cute, airy, and not too crowded!
We have never eaten there. Just had beer. Like all places in Old City, Quebec, it is very pricey and we usually prefer outside the walls. However, it is one street off the main drag. The main drag is usually crammed full of people and this is quiet and pleasant.
Came here for a drink and a small bite and had a good time. The place has that typical French city feel, especially when the doors to the street are open, definitely adds to the feel.
Disappointed with the experience. Brunch dish 4/10 Cappuccino 1/10 (froth machine didn t work) Duck confit salad 6/10 I wouldn t go back or recommend.
Great brunch food and very friendly and attentive service, we had duck confit, beef cheek burger, carrot cake, eggs Benedict, the works
Great experience. A little hard to find but perfect low key local experience if u find it. I was actually looking for a croque madame (i missed my breakfast egg), but thats apparently a lunch item, so I just jumped at a lobster roll and a draught local amber. Both were spot on. I sat outside but u can sit inside in the window. place is small. service attentive. food and drink top notch! Creative delicious roll. yummy amber thx folks
Perhaps it was an off day, but we dropped by for breakfast on a nice weekday. We ordered a croissant and brunch entree (frittata of the day, potatoes, toast, ham with jam). Wow, incredibly disappointing. The frittata was very spongey as if it was made very early and microwaved. Breakfast potatoes were unseasoned: no salt nor ketchup came with them. The only saving grace was perhaps their housemade strawberry jam, which I enjoyed with the toast. There was also a small piece of hair in the water. Again, perhaps they were just having a bad day, but we probably should have passed over it considering it was peak breakfast hours, and it was completely empty in house. Oooof.
Do not experiment with this place. The food is not freshly made and tastes terrible, random ingredients tossed together. The stake with the mash and veggies looks like it was made days ago and heated up in the microwave. The service is shocking and there is no atmosphere to it at all. Don t be fooled by the reviews.
A small menu because they focus on a few things and turn out quality.
Brunch menu is limited
Amazing food, freshly prepared and very well presented! I just loved the place and the people! I will definitely come back to dine if I visit Quebec City again. Thank you!!
We stayed at an AirBnB down the street and found this fantastic cafe! We ended up eating there 3 days in a row. I was traveling with my mom and my 2 kids (aged 13 and 10). All of us were big fans of different things! The service was wonderful! The owner is there from time to time but all of his staff are beyond welcoming. The atmosphere is perfect with open windows and exposed brick walls and stained glass- it s cozy. Highly recommend to anyone visiting or just looking for a hidden gem in their city.
very good service!
Delicious maple pie!
Cozy & relaxed atmosphere. Excellent food & service.
Fabulous dinner in an intimate setting. Menu was small and curated. Service was stellar; ingredients were fresh. Both traditional French dishes and innovative flavors were on the menu. So glad we found this gem as it is worlds apart from typical tourist fare.
Definitely a homegrown, local spot in the best way. I sat outside and really enjoyed myself. The menu seems to change frequently dont expect to eat what you see in these photos but the foie on pistachio bread was creaveable. I recommend this spot!
Amazing service great food, highly recommend it to anyone!!!! Amazing atmosphere
Great food and great atmosphere. Went on a Thursday and its off the main tourist street in the Old City, so it was a little slow. That said, being on a side street without all the foot traffic, street performers, and live music made for a much more relaxing experience. I will definitely come here again next time Im in Quebec City!
It s really nice cozy place to have a meal with friends. Food is great and the service is really good. I definitely recommend.
Super friendly staff and really first rate food. I had confit duck salad and my wife had the beef cheek bbq burger.
Good food and attentive service, this restaurant is very popular. Lots of seating arrangements but it gets busy.
Enjoyed tomato gazpacho on a summer day. Creme brulee was good as well. Bol boreal - very bland and no aroma/flavor and portion was miniscule for $36. Theres not much for vegetarians here.
TARTARE DE CANARD is very delicious
Amazing restaurant. Brought our 11 month old and they were very accommodating. I ll be dreaming about the salmon bowl for a long time. We were disappointed by the touristy restaurants on the main drag - this was a jem.
Excellent dinner. Flavors were balanced allowing local ingredients to shine through. I had the charcuterie and cheese platter for appetizer and scallop crudo for main course. Harmonious flavors with nothing was overpowering. Great service to top it off.
Amazing little gem hidden in the old quebec, not a huge menu but solid choice all around. The staff is super friendly and the food is excellent!
Food is delicious and service is great. We enjoyed the dinner very much.
Expected better meals based on reviews and prices. The smoked brisket was served as a lukewarm sandwich with a curious rectangle of very ordinary coleslaw. The stuffed quail was good - although also not as hot as expected. To compensate we were given a maple syrup pie - with a tough charred crust. On the plus side, service was excellent.
Definitely adults only, I wouldnt take kids here. No on-site parking. Needs reservations. Nice ambiance, small place, but the food was quite expensive and it was good and all, but not like the best food ever... I wouldnt eat here again nor recommend to others, but nothing against the great staff or cute restaurant.
Simple, but good quality cuisine with fresh produce. Friendly service
An exceptional bistro. The dishes are refined and delicious.
Very warm. Nice visit. Thank you
Located in a small alley but still attracts many customers to visit. Foods are delicious, and cocktails are fantastic. Only 1 chef cooks for the all customers, so foods may come with a bit delay. It will be worth your time since evey dishes are well-cooked, flavoured and melted in mouth. Highly recommend Duck Caesar Salad.
Very bad experience. We were very disappointed. Dishes far too expensive for the quality. We came out with a bill of almost $100 for two (bad) mimosas and two dinner plates that were not very generous. We were almost hungry when we left. Service not at all friendly, leaves us hanging with only 4 customers in the restaurant. I would not recommend!
My partner and I decided to visit Chez Temporel based on a friends recommendation from their time in Quebec. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted by a lovely ambiance and delectable food. Despite not typically indulging in alcohol, I sought something to complement my meal. François graciously offered to craft a custom drink for me, taking the time to understand my preferences. The cha he concocted was simply exquisite. Were already planning our return visit, as both the cuisine and the hospitality of the staff were exceptional. Chez Temporel is a definite must-visit destination in Quebec!
Really high quality and super tasty food and cocktails.
Good service, good onion soup Lack of condiments in the smoke meat, a little dry!!
Nice experience
Evidently a neighbourhood institution. In operation for 50 years which is impressive in itself. An excellent brunch visit. The washrooms are upstairs and a bit tricky to navigate so youve been warned. ;)
The dishes are fine and delicious. The service is attentive. The smile is there. Wow
We ordered French Onion soup, potato blinis, and benedictine of the moment. Food is delightful and balanced in flavour. Service and vibes are real good and chill. They even initiated to correct the order after it has been served. Cant recommend this place enough!
Went for dinner on a Saturday night with reservation at 7:30. They were out of a few menu options. We got the smoked meat and stuffed quail. They were ok, a little spendy for what you get. The coffee creme brulee and maple pie were pretty good though. Service was great, staff were friendly. Enjoyed dining there.
Very disappointing experience. This place has changed a lot to the point that it should also change its name, so as not to fool the nostalgic. I thought I would find a croque-monsieur there like before. What I received was not very good. The music in the linoleum to the point of not understanding what the waiter is saying who, moreover, is probably the least friendly waiter in all of Old Quebec. I dont understand why he treated me like that. It was a really unpleasant experience. Chez Temporel no longer exists. Point.
While we were visiting Quebec City we found this adorable bistro off the beaten path. It was so good for lunch that we went back the same night for dinner! I had the croque monsieur for lunch and it was picture-perfect as well as tasty. It was served with the most delicious yet simply salad verte. For dinner I had the beef bourguignon and again, perfect and delicious. I loved the portion sizes of everything - just right. The place itself is very cute and intimate and perfectly darkened. The service was friendly and excellent. We hope to be able to return!
Plain food and at exorbitant prices. A big zero for the service, employees spend their time criticizing customers without any discretion; What a lack of respect for your customers. Never again this restaurant, if you can call this place restaurant !!!!
Disappointed with our experience, throughout the evening we heard employees talking about their lives and their customers in an unpleasant way, and very loudly! No consideration for customers. In addition, the food was nothing exceptional, it lacked flavor and the very expensive price is not justified in our opinion. We should have moved on.
Nice place but Im not going there I meet my ex all the time lol
Onion soup with cheese and croutons - it was delicious! $32.19 for two soups + tips, your choice.
Totally impeccable.
A very nice surprise for this small neighborhood restaurant in Old Quebec which has existed for over 50 years. Very refined cuisine and very attentive and professional service. The place is very warm with a 70s/80s bistro decor. The customers are local and also some tourists looking for local experiences. A nice little wine list to accompany the menu which changes quite regularly. I had the pleasure of tasting a braised beef cheek that simply melted in my mouth and as a starter, a very delicious and traditional onion soup! For dessert, a traditional sugar tart. From start to finish, a great experience. The atmosphere is very young and cozy. Overall, a very good neighborhood bistro. A visit is essential during your visit to Quebec!
We had a very good dinner and were served very well by Maria, a very nice meeting :). We will come back to it!
Pleasant restaurant with a nice atmosphere. Quality cuisine, the accompaniment of the dishes could be more generous, the beef cheek felt a little alone on the plate.
We enjoyed a most extraordinary Christmas dining experience in this rustic gem, nestled in the charming narrow streets of Old Québec A 5-Course, Prix Fixé Menu, designed for the festive season sympathetically paired with wines for each course Chef Nikola outdid himself!! And each member of the staff were beaming with pride and warmth as we were welcomed into this secret gastronomic haven Merci Joyeaux Nöel
This restaurant just doesn t deserve its current high average rating at about 4.6 for our dinner there yesterday. The risotto was not cooked well and some rice felt really raw. The waitress insisted it was supposed to be cooked like that. When asked to take a bite herself, she did and still said it was expected. That was a straight lie as we have never eaten risotto like that. There were some other dishes being mediocre at best. For example, four of us couldn t even finish the single dessert dish - Christmas log . Very disappointed dinner last night for us.
Great food, interesting wine selection
Were a little worried given it was empty but it was a Tuesday in the winter... We didnt regret it, the food was fantastic and very well presented. Croque-monsieur, parmentier (deer - you ought to try this), vole au vent (chicken) and foie gras poêlé. Overall, simple but so tasty. This place deserve to be crowded.
Had the duck confit Caesar salad and it was amazing, some of the best duck Ive had and the broccoli instead of the lettuce was a brilliant idea! We also had the maple syrup pie which was delicious, very subtle flavor with a delicate crust that we loved. Last but not least we had an onion soup that didnt disappoint and my wife had the scallops, overall a great experience including a very friendly service and a beautiful ambience. Highly recommend!
Super recommended! Beautiful dishes and very good wines.
I loved everything about this place from the great onion soup and snails to the delightful potato/salmon entree. The cozy ambiance makes it a perfect spot for lunch.
The food was ok, but very few options available on the menu, and even some of them werent available on that day. The service was just fair, 6 people behind the bar but only 2 really working so the order was delayed and mistaken. They speak French and English so language wasnt an issue. The onion soup was tasty but a bit expensive for the size ($14/each). The risotto was overcooked, more like a rice pudding texture. Not the worst, but neither the best restaurant in old quebec.
waiter scoffed at us when we asked for a menu that wasn t a QR code because we did not have any service to load the QR code.
We walked in and sat down. Lady greated us and we asked for a menu. She pointed at the qr code. I asked again for a real menu and she said that is the menu (qr code) and to use your phone. She the asked what she could Start us off with. I said we needed a menu because and before I could finish she scoffed at us and turned away. What she didnt realize or understand is. We are from the states and dont have cell service in quebec. So we cant use the QR Code. I am in the restaurant business. And I couldnt Believe her attitude Because they should be in the service to please industry. There should never be attitude. I highly dont recommend this place. There are way too many good restaurants and friendly people in quebec city
Delicious food
A delicious food and smiley stuff! A place to visit!
Very friendly service and good food in this calmer, less touristy part of Vieux Quebec. Highly recommended.
Treasure to discover. Well established restaurant, intimate, simple and warm. Tasty and affordable cuisine.
Small and cozy place. Seared tuna and octopus are delicious. Both are tender. Pear and maple desserts are good also. Enjoyed the meal very much. Would recommend.
Great place, perfect music choice, escargots are absolutely delicious and various beer options (even non-alcoholic). Totally recommended....
Duck confit salad and frittata were excellent. Lovely atmosphere; on a quieter side street.
Absolutely excellent atmosphere. Great duck and nice service.
Everything delicious!
Amazing. Highly recommend. A touch off the beaten path. Service and food both tops.
Nice little cafe
Whoever is in charge of phones is pretty rude. Been looking forward to reserving the restaurant with a friend and my calls are rudely rejected.
Made dinner reservations here for 8pm. Received a confirmation email. Once we got there, we were told the kitchen is closed early. No heads up, no phone call, or email notifying us of this change. Very unprofessional experience - would not recommend.
This is a store that my mother and I happened to go into as we were passing by and were a little hungry. First of all, I ordered three dishes: Salade composée du moment (salad of the day), Risotto forestier, and Filet dépaule de boeuf, which was recommended, and they were all delicious! In particular, the mushroom risotto had really well-cooked rice, and it was the best risotto Ive ever had! The salad with tuna tataki, cheese, and watermelon cut into squares was fun and delicious! Of course, the steak made from calf shoulder was cooked just right and was tender and delicious. The radish that came as a garnish was really great The two waitresses were really friendly and I felt like I was visiting a local Quebecois restaurant! However, there was construction on the road next to it, so it was a bit noisy, so I quickly ran away... Next time I come to Quebec, I will definitely come back!
Amazing food - great taste and presentation. Servers were super nice too
On a quiet street of the old town but easy to get to - which I really enjoy it. I had a duck salad - amazing! Cant wait to go again.
Our first visit to Quebec City & our first experience at a restaurant in this beautiful, historically rich city. After asking one of the waitstaff about seating, my husband & I sat ourselves down at one of the outdoor tables. We were then abrubtly approached by another waitress who questioned us about seating ourselves. We apologized about possibly misunderstanding, especially with the language barrier, and offered to get up to make things right. After she scolded us, she walked off. We shrugged it off & assumed she came to terms with our honest mistake. Then about 5-mins later she comes by with two glasses of water & slams them on the table without saying a word & then walks away again. At that point, I was sure that I didnt want to spend any more time there dealing with rudeness so we just left. We just wanted a quaint spot to enjoy an authentic experience but instead we got a cold waitress who needs a lesson in service. Not exactly the Quebecois experience we were expecting.
Come here for afternoon tea, the chocolate is delicious and the food is very appetizing!
Overall a disappointing experience. Service was fast, server was polite and helpful. The menu was very different than what we had expected based on reviews. But thats small restaurants for you so we rolled with it. We ordered wine, octopus (with corn bread and corn puree) and the seafood risotto. Both dishes were edible but disappointing in flavor and technique. For a more expensive meal it was a let down. Risotto was a tad salty and they even put out mussels which were inedible. Octopus was big and juicy but cooked to a weird texture and the flavors were very unconventional to say the least.
The menu was totally different than online or whats seen in the reviews. We ended up getting the octopus dish and the seafood risotto. The octopus was cooked pretty well but the flavour was not very good. Not sure if the flavours/spices just didnt mesh well or if this particular octopus had an odd taste but it wasnt a very enjoyable dish. The seafood risotto was ok but not very flavourful. It came with 3 muscles, 3 clams and a small piece of lobster. These dishes would be disappointing at $30 but especially so at $50 each. Maybe it was an off night because there are so many raving reviews but I cannot recommend the dishes we had. The server was very nice and quick so no complaints about that.
The bread in the croque monsieur tasted like the sad baguette you found in supermarkets, soggy and tasteless. The duck waffles were good, the waffles did not taste like anything on their own, the duck was good. Staff was super friendly and nice.
A magical midday at Chez Temporel. Superb plate of perfectly successful duck waffles. I like!
3 friends looking for a restaurant in Quebec, we came across this little gem a little behind the other restaurants :) The Service was top notch (thanks Maria ) and so was the burger . Honestly, go for it without hesitation if you want to eat well in a slightly quieter setting. Well come back! Pierre, Marc & Guillaume
When I visited for lunch, there were some menu items that were not available. 5 oclock? It seems to change before and after. I liked the salad dressing because it wasnt strong, was clean, and had lots of vegetables. The onion soup and salad were average, and the baguette topped with goat cheese was delicious. It was even better when I ate it with the onion soup I ordered together! Its located in a back alley, so its a great place to have brunch without being noisy. However, I tried to calculate it, but it didnt come even after I told it twice, so I ended up with a total of 20 minutes? After waiting, I went directly to the counter and paid;;
Very good lunch: Duck waffles
Simple and good salads
Menu is very different from what we saw online. Can t say anything about the food, because no one came to take order for 30 minutes we spent there on the second floor.
Wonderful little bistro in a quiet spot just round the corner from the throngs on Saint Jean. Had duck salad which was delicious, followed by excellent chocolate tart. Well worth a visit.
Avocado toast and brunch platter were great, service wash excellent. Made us tourists feel extremely welcome! Nothing overly fancy but price was cheap for the quality of the food and service.
Attentive staff, fast service, good price and tasty. Too bad the place has shrunk in 20 years
Great cuisine and very hospitable staff. I ordered the Cod with a glass of white wine and finished with a slice of the maple pie. The meal was fantastic start to finish and could not of asked for a better experience.
I leave one star just for the ambience of the cosy restaurant. Otherwise it was quite a disappointing experience. We paid almost 200 dollars for two people for a salad and two lamb chops. Poor service, wine poured with two hands and everything on the table. Dont go, there is much better in Quebec city for better price!
Good quality of products but poor quality-price ratio, fair portions (at least the meat ones that we tried) and very high price. Very short letter. They served us the wine by pouring it out of the glass every time it was served (50 CAN bottle of prosecco). I dont recommend it, there are other better alternatives in the city
BEST meal in Quebec! Service impeccable. Food unique, organic and delicious. If you have only one meal in Quebec, Chez Temporal should be it! Tomato carpaccio to die for! Vegetarian options: Many tasty options
Lunch was great. We went back again two days later.
Waited 30 minutes at an outside table and no one came to take our order so we got up and left having only been given water to drink. Disappointed to put it mildly.
I eat here every time Im in Quebec - twice on this trip! Good food, good vibe.
A more quiet backstreet local place, just around the corner and out of the chaos of the main walking and traffic area near Pub St Patrick. Pleasant staff, good service, and English spoken easily as needed. Charcuterie plate with 3 cheeses and 3 meats and bowl of crostini split between two as an afternoon snack was flavorful and delicious, although a bit pricey for the portions ($34 cdn). Still loved it all though and darn near licked the plate when no one was looking. If you look back at other reviews, the charcuterie selection seems to vary depending on what they have on hand that day or week.
Superb bistro a little away from the main tourist street and its often overpriced restaurants. The menu is small but the food is high quality as is the service. Last point which was an advantage for me coming from Europe but obviously a disadvantage for others, it is not air-conditioned but ventilated. Very nice address if you are passing through the old city of Quebec. Vegetarian options: Homemade gnocchi with wild mushrooms and parmesan.
Semi-gourmet cuisine without a doubt. Careful dishes, sought-after flavors, very interesting pairings. A very nice culinary experience. Outstanding and extremely friendly service. To recommend without any hesitation.
Wonderful Caesar salad, burger and maple pie! Great service and cool vibe!
We ordered a brunch and a continental breakfast. SO GOOD! Plenty to eat, great value, had a bloody Caesar, everything perfect. I NEVER do reviews, but these people deserve one.
Simple, flavorful, and welcoming sums up the food, atmosphere and service. The Duck dish is 5 stars as well! Compliments to the chef, staff and owners!
A wonderful, off-the-beaten path gem. Eat with the locals! The octopus was outstanding!
Felt like it wasn t a tourist trap, the waffles were heavenly, super nice waitstaff
A superb address in the historic heart of Quebec. Careful service, fine and tasty dishes (super fresh), the restaurant is worth the detour. Plan a budget of 40 euros per person to treat yourself.
We had the place recommended since the restaurant was not on the tourist street and was therefore more pleasant. The terrace is not very intimate and poorly located, we had to get up during the meal to let the tenants of the apartments next door enter or leave their homes. It would be preferable not to place tables in front of the windows or doors of residents of Old Quebec out of respect for them. The service was ok and the prices too high for what it was. The music was loud, we could barely hear each other speak. Next time, well go to St-Jean, it might be quieter.
How do they create so many flies in a restaurant like this! We never felt comfortable while seated. Personally, the dish with the soggy octopus and the escargot resembling risotto didn t bring me any joy either. In any case, there were far too many flies!
What an awesome place. Food was fantastic! Service was awesome! Ambience was amazing! A must visit restaurant. We were in town for three days. Went there three times.
Visited on September 28, 2023. The clerk received us very kindly. We ordered snails, octopus, lamb chops and two glasses of wine. The total with tip was 160 yuan. The food portion was just right and the seasoning was very good. It was not too salty. The lamb Very tender and not fishy, highly recommended.
I didnt eat there, but the atmosphere and service were great. I highly recommend it because you can feel a little removed from the touristy areas! Next time I get a chance to visit Quebec, I will definitely eat here.
We had a wonderful experience at Chez Temporel. Chill and personable vibe. The staff are friendly and attentive and the food, happy food dance non-stop! I wish we could order everything on the menu. We ordered the octopus, escargot, gnocchi and picked vegetables. We were stuffed. The octopus is worth it! So tender and flavourful. The kitchen is visible from the restaurant and they we very clean and organized during the entire dinner rush. We can t wait to go again.
Excellent, good meal, very cordial staff. And Dominique who cooks, she s extraordinary. I went with my mother and she found it really good for meals. We will definitely go back there when we are in Quebec.
Look, I gave it 5 stars because its simply excellent. The atmosphere is cozy and if its busy, it feels like youre at a big dinner party. The service is really good, both servers had warm personalities and took great care of us. The cocktails were well made and tasty. The FOOD! I cannot stress this enough, if you want perfectly executed dishes made with care and have flavours that wow and make you want more, this is the place. I had to order as much as I could off the small menu, French onion soup, tuna crudo and foie gras to start, escargot, Caesar salad and scallops for main, sugar pie to finish with espresso. All but the sugar pie were one offs with amazing faclvors. The French onion soup had a rich broth and they use the 1608 cheese! The foie gras was cooked perfectly and served on toast with jam and peanut butter. Never had anything like it, it was a game changer. I can go on about all the dishes but I wont, just go and give it a shot. The wine list is short but very good and there are a few by the glass in all categories!
Very good experience, typical atmosphere of Parisian bars, dishes prepared with dexterity, this place is definitely worth the detour, I highly recommend.
What a delightful find and our top choice for dining during our weekend in Old Quebec! We had the pleasure of visiting twice, once for dinner and once for brunch, and sampled a total of 9 different items, all of which were delicious. Our favorites included the onion soup, squash soup, Caesar salad, and the remarkable key lime pie. Speaking of the key lime pie, it s a hidden gem not featured on the menu and not available every day, but it s a real treat, resembling crème brûlée with the perfect balance of sweetness. Adding to the charm, the restaurant is nestled in an antique setting that provides a peaceful escape from the bustling main streets, avoiding the noise and crowds. The staff, while friendly, appeared to be a bit short-handed at times, resulting in occasional delays in service. Nevertheless, it was a great dining experience that we would highly recommend.
From local place to tourist trap. Indeed, good service and atmosphere but small portions and they recently significantly increased the prices. Not worth it anymore
Sandwich is really good. Mustard sauce is really a wonderful surprise to me. The salad is light and flavorful at the same time. Good serve overall!
Love love this quaint restaurant! Food is amazing and ambiance is perfect for date night . Forget those 4.5 and above reviews on the main strip of Quebec City where all the tourists goes. Those restaurants really don t deliver for those high ratings. This is a tucked in place on some beautiful side streets and really not far of a walk to the main attractions. We had squid and fish and it was delicious . Best meal of the trip
Very good food
We ordered the Blini, Duck and Waffle, and the Escargot. All were great! The duck was melt in the mouth soft. Loved it
Deconstructed onion soup ! Mix and Eat it tour favorite way! In the bowl or alternate eating the bread-cheese and the soup! Everything is fresh! Temporel has become timeless, 45 years already! Nothing has changed! Well done Temporal!
I had the braised beef cheek which was really excellent! Really tender to eat with good accompaniments. I just didnt understand why the food was on the edge of the plate, new design I guess...
We had a delicious dinner with friendly service. The duck confit Caesar salad was superb and the scallops were also delicious. The setting is super simple andcasual, but the food was outstanding
A truly remarkable experience in Quebec city. We ordered the octopus and the gnocchi and both dishes were incredible. Great textures and flavours! The space is very cozy and the staff is very nice! Can t wait to visit Quebec again to eat here! Food
I cant say enough good things about this place. Great food, excellent service, outstanding staff. French onion soup is a must.
Delicious onion soup, magnificent and delicious hot chocolates with whipped cream and a very warm welcome!
Genuinely some of the best French food I ve ever had & I ve been all over France. Superb. Beautiful restaurant, good prices, and very kind staff as well. So good we came back twice. My highest recommendations
A cosy little restaurant with an interesting menu. The seared foi gras was outstanding and so well presented that I had to take a photo. For our main meals, my husband had the beef cheek and I had the octopus. Both had amazing flavours, and the crème brûlée rounded off a perfect dinner. For 3 courses plus a bottle of red wine cost around $350, including the tip, but it was worth it. Friendly service too.
Excellent service, open kitchen you can see the cooks working, beautiful presentations. Small but warm.
I enjoyed the octopus salad and the beer.
