This restaurant offers a unique dining experience that creates a fun and family like environment. There are two dining sessions and customers are seated simultaneously to prepare for the round of service. You start with some drinks and then the menu is explained in detail in both English and French to all customers. The food is solid, especially the apps (buffalo mozz and sweetbreads were phenomenal) but there were some issues for the temperature of the proteins on the mains. We ordered duck and swordfish, which should be cooked between a medium rare to medium, but both our dishes were on the rare side of rare. Very undercooked with made the fish tough to eat as the connective tissues have not broken down. We expected a nice fish steak and instead got a more sashimi style strips that were almost inedible. The flavors on the duck dish were fantastic, but again duck should not be served rare as there are some tough parts to chew through. Desert was awesome and drinks were ok overall. The restaurant could use better ventilation as the entire building fills with smoke once they start cooking. Very nice guys though and cool atmosphere.

If you are looking for a restaurant that stands out from the crowd, I highly recommend LAffair Ketchup for the experience it offers. The restaurant aims to be warm and seeks to make you feel at home. The menu is dynamic depending on the seasons and is presented orally by the team. Their proximity concept works really well and Im sure youll have a great time (the service was great). The food was delicious! In short, if I have to introduce Quebec restaurants to someone who has little time and is looking for a welcoming experience, I will definitely suggest this restaurant.

This place surpassed all expectations we had. We brought a one year old to dinner, knowing it really isn t a restaurant for kids, and they could not have been more accommodating or kind to us. Every so often the staff would bring different things to keep our daughter smiling and they d spend time trying to get her to laugh. We were really blown away by our experience here. And the food and wine were exquisite. I cannot say enough great things about this place. It was the least pretentious fine dining experience we ve had. Can t wait to go back.

Everyone enters and starts ordering at the same time, the vibe was nice. But the food here doesn t justify the wait or the hype. The dishes themselves were just average, not worth the time or effort.

We booked a month ahead, and they cancelled our reservation 24 hours before our booking without any warning. We came from Toronto and booked this specifically for our anniversary.

I guess I didnt relate to what seems to be the DNA of this restaurant. We cant hear each other talking, the music is too loud, the first dish arrived 1 hour after our arrival. The service is very very very long, we stay 2 hours but you wait without really knowing why. The starter (salmon gravlax) was exceptional, the beef was good but less WAW, the dessert was a square brownie without presentation. Difficult to understand the logic/coherence between a starter worthy of a gourmet and a basic dessert that I am capable of making. I was going to give it 3/5 but they served free digestives at the table next to ours. We dont, I dont know why. Its just weird to do that, you tell yourself that youre a less important customer than the one 1 meter away from you. Whatever the reason, its just degrading to do this in front of us. Surely this restaurant appeals to many people who like this atmosphere. This was not our case.

One of the best restaurants in the city with a very, very, very rustic decor, with a good franquette feel. The waiter knows his slate really well, which seems simple but is full of details. Kudos to Charles Chuck who is an excellent host. Each dish is sought after. Around between $15 and $20 for starters and between $30 and $45 for main courses. To go there and return there.

If you re visiting Quebec City this place is a must. The dining experience is a quirky, informal, and unique experience. Friendly staff with some amazing cooking skills. Every dish we tried was amazing. The format has seating times and serves the whole restaurant at one go so be prepared to wait a bit before eating but I found that added to the experience. 5/5 and will come back if I m back in QC.

Its difficult to find the exact words to describe an experience like the one we had at LAffaire est Ketchup. Incredible service, warm, competent staff and what can we say about the food... Fresh, delicious, flawless... We can say that it borders on perfection. If you have the chance when you book, ask to be at the bar... You will understand that the guys work as a team, with pleasure while ensuring that the dishes are served impeccably! Well done guys, it was truly a perfect experience and we cant wait to go back!

We visited for our anniversary last week and were blown away by this place. The simplicity of the kitchen, casual decor, and incredible service really amplified the experience. The food was absolutely flawless. We loved every minute. We had the blood pudding, the foie gras, the seafood plate, and the duck poitrine. I have never had such tender octopus. It was so beautiful and we cannot wait to return. Dietary restrictions: We have nut and fish allergies and we felt totally safe

Its a grey evening in downtown Quebec city. My wife and I had been asking around in old Quebec for a special meal, while were in town. Laffaire est ketchup is suggested from more than one bartender. We take the chance. Upon arrival we can see that this is a small space with truly antiquated equipment. We sit by the kitchen. We speak with chef and ask what to eat. We speak with our server and ask what to drink. We speak with sous and understand this is a special place. The entirety of the experience is unpretentious and welcoming. The cocktails are on point and perfect. The food is absolutely next level. They are proud to provide an amazing meal. As it was our anniversary, they made us feel special and crushed it with the food, drink and dessert. This was the highlight of our time in Quebec city and if you dont check these guys out, youre missing out. A giant thank you to the team at the ketchup! We couldnt have hoped for a better anniversary meal. We felt welcomed, ate beautifully and have amazing memories. Thank you

Everything is perfect here. Im from Montreal and Ive already been there 3 times since discovering the restaurant. Ego-free atmosphere that reflects confidence and a love of the restaurant business. A very friendly staff who takes care of you with familiar attention. With everything else which is a big 5 star, it is an understatement to say that the dishes and meals offered shine even more than the rest, it is one of the best gastronomic experiences that I have had in Quebec personally. You definitely worth trying this pirate cuisine!

Superb experience. A magnificent dinner

A good gastronomic moment! Everything was delicious, the service was fast and friendly! The only downside, and just because they certainly didnt realize it, was the music, although perfectly to my taste as well, it was too loud, we couldnt hear each other talking since everyone had to shout to trying to get along... I know we dont talk with our mouths full, but we would have liked less hubbub... otherwise perfect for everything else!

The dining experience at LAffaire est Ketchup was truly exceptional. From the moment we were seated, it was clear that the evening would be memorable. With a selection of 5 appetizers and 5 entrées, choosing was a delightful challenge. The Fois Gras and Salmon were outstanding, and the Steak and Duck elevated the meal to new heights. I highly recommend this restaurant and suggest sitting at the bar for an up-close view of the kitchens artistry.

Such a shame, I like to encourage a local company from us but unfortunately you do not deliver to Sainte-Justine-de-Newton. We are just 14km away but you go to Île Perrot which is more than 30km away!!!!! Plus youre going to Rigaud, so youll pass our house!

An absolute banger. Small restaurant with a super warm atmosphere, you feel at home there and above all you eat WELL! I found the tartare ok. It was good, but nothing special. The arctic char was really delicious, I recommend. When we went it was quite quiet, I must admit that the atmosphere made us a little sleepy. Still, the food was really good, but expensive. If you have the budget, I recommend.

It s been nearly a week since my wife and I had the pleasure of dining here for our wedding anniversary. We were on vacation from Chicago with our family and had the opportunity to sneak out for dinner one night (thanks for watching the kids, fam!) What a dream the entire night was. Even before walking in, I got that feeling. The feeling this was going to be a special and memorable experience. We were warmly greeted by one of the chefs and seated at the bar (an absolute must). We drank red wine, and followed the chefs tasting for the night. Nothing too fancy, but paired perfectly with our meal. Speaking of food, everything was excellent. But this place is about more than food; conversation with the chefs, impromptu apéritifs on the house, the open homestyle kitchen, and that feeling that you re in an episode of Parts Unknown. The spirit of Bourdain was with us! A Top 5 lifetime dining experience for me, one that I will never forget. And I will be back!

I ordered the pork with shrimp, a combination I never have thought would go together, and I received heaven on a plate. Never have I had a better entree in my life. It honestly brought tears. Amazing, amazing, amazing!

One of my favorite restaurants. The experience is unique. The food is excellent and the Staff is just perfect. A unique evening every time we go there. We eat at the bar to see everything and have wonderful discussions with the staff.

This is hands down one of the best meals Ive ever had. My husband and I visited Quebec City this week and decided to celebrate our anniversary with this meal. It met and exceeded all our expectations. Its small and intimate, they do just two seatings a night for about 20 or so diners and the menu changes daily (I believe). A member of the team comes out at the beginning and announces the menu, then everyone orders, and youre off. I had octopus, followed by the pork and shrimp entree, and it was absolutely unreal in the best way. 10/10. Wonderful experience, highly recommend.

My husband loved Anthony Bourdain so we try to seek out places he has been. L Affaire est Ketchup did not disappoint. We had great food in a fun atmosphere with a great server. The whole experience was wonderful and memorable! Parking: We were able to go down the street and over a couple blocks and park for free. Kid-friendliness: Not really a place for kids!

Food was quite good. Service was horrendous. It took 1 hr after seating before food arrived. They never checked on us, never refilled our water, never asked if we wanted another glass of wine. Never offered us new silverware after taking away our used ones from appetizers. We wanted dessert but didnt want to wait another hour so we just paid and left.

Great food, great drinks, and great company. If this is what you are looking for in a restaurant, look no further (if you can get a reservation).

Probably my favourite restaurant in Canada. I try to eat here every time I m in town. The food is excellent, the prices are reasonable, the staff is awesome and the wine and beer and interesting. There s really no other restaurant like it.

I loved it. It was like we were family. The service was just outstanding. The food was amazing. Our table ordered all the apps. The best being the sweetbreads, the bone marrow, and the cheese. But they were all excellent. Our group had most of the entrees, but I only tried the risotto, which was good and the duck which was amazing. Just one of the best nights out in a long time. So great.

This might be one of the best dinners I had this year. I loved the style of menu ever changing. Was super excited to see what they were going to have when I went. They explain each dish and then you have a but to think it over. We ordered the Octopus for our appetizer and I believe Pork (with a Morrel Sauce), as well as this Halibut with a Lobster Bisque. All I have to say is wow. Michelin quality food for sure. Such lovely execution and flavours.

Had a great time This meal is better than all we had before in the city. we had sweat bread mozzarella and pork belly beef risotto and fish. Everything is well structured and delicious. And the dessert The best brownie I ever had creamy and melting texture strong chocolate flavour perfectly sweet

An amazing experience from the moment we sat down to the moment we left. The were lucky enough to get the bar seats so had a view of the kitchen at work. While the food was great, the chefs really made the experience. They made sure we were having a good time and you really feel like you re just hanging out in a friend s kitchen. For the price the environment is not good... no air conditioning for a 29 degree evening its hot. And we wait quite a long time for service. The ducks and escalopes are very good; foie gras cognac is also good with duck, but the squid that I ordered is not very fresh, I wonder if it was poorly defrosted; and the seasoning was too salty, I had difficulty finishing it, squid and shrimp (for the price of 39 for this dish its quite expensive) If we dont do quality control adequately, I dont recommend it because its still very expensive for two people (230 for two, with tip) and the environment is not dreamy. But the servers are very warm.

Wow, what a discovery! The starter and meal were exceptional. There were 6 of us and it was unanimous. Only downside, music a little loud. But it s been a long time since I ve been this satisfied when leaving the restaurant.

We read about this in the Rough Guide to Canada. We arrived early for our booking not realising it was timed sittings. The menu was explained in French and English - cabaret style! The tables are cozy so you can end up conversing with your neighbours (as we did) The food was excellent. I had sweetbreads for the first time (brilliant!). Great food great atmosphere. The only thing that would restrict me coming again is distance from home (approx 4000 miles)

One of the best culinary experiences I ve ever had. We sat close to the open kitchen and were welcomed with open arms, chatting with the chefs throughout the night, explaining cooking methods and ingredients, and giving us things to try. Our server Sabri gave us some of the best service I ve ever experienced. He was extremely knowledgeable and so warm and friendly. Made us amazing drinks using funky obscure liquors that left us feeling nice and buzzed as we ate our food. The food itself was insanely delicious. So fresh, using unique ingredients. The bison tartare was the best tartare I ve ever had. So fatty and rich. We had the most tender sirloin steak I ve ever had. Delicious fresh sea bass. They gave us an extra main - calimari steak which turned out to be the highlight of the meal. So meaty, fresh, and tender. Ive travelled and eaten in a lot of top restaurants and can honestly say this was top 5 meals of my life. Already planning our next trip to Quebec City to see what delicious fares are offered here the next time we come. Thank you for an amazing once in a lifetime experience.

Upon hearing this place from chefs all over Canada, I just had to visit. Apparently most of the food on their menu changes every week. This was the first restaurant I ate at for dinner in Quebec City. We reserved seating for about 11 people and amazingly they were able to seat us all. The interior was quite small and really felt like we were inside someones humble home. I love the play on words with the restaurants name. Their door entrance even had a artistic Ketchup bottle mural on it. After getting seated, the waiter explained everything on the menu to us in English and they also spoke French. I was told from the menu, the ris de veau was a signature dish that they often served so I had to get it, not knowing exactly what I was eatting as the translation was known as sweet bread. I think it was veal and whatever the sauce that came with it was so delicious! I could not stop dipping my bread in the sauce. My main dish was the dore de lac, fish with shrimp. It was sweet and savory. Nothing too heavy but just right and tasted great. Dessert was a surprise. We had a super soft chocolate mousse brownie with whip cream. It was very rich but I compared to what others have gotten in the past, I would have loved to try their cheesecake. Lastly, to pair with everything we also got a local white wine Le Saint-Pépin 2021 which was light and pleasant. Its hard to believe this was all cooked in a regular home kitchen. I have never had such an experience before. I would highly recommend for a fun, mystery, dining experience with friends and enjoy the friendly neighborhood atmosphere.

Super cozy and homely vibe! Really love the atmosphere of this little restaurant which made everyone feel like home, from the greeting to the menu sharing. Really had a great time here with friend over drunk. The menu changes based on the season. My friend and I really enjoyed the wine selection, lobster and asparagus appetizer, Fried fish, and Beef. The restaurant has a small kitchen but the food really warmed my heart on thr rainy day here. Will definitely come back

What can I say that hasn t already been said? Just make the reservation. This place was the highlight of my visit to Quebec. Dive bar atmosphere (I mean that as a compliment) with world class food. Maybe not even dive bar, but your friend s kitchen. Really cool group of dudes cranking out the best food imaginable on two domestic electric stoves with great tunes playing in the background. I m so glad I sat at the bar so I could watch them at work. The ris de veau is the only permanent item on the menu and I highly recommend it! Now stop reading reviews and go make the reservation!

This was my favorite dining experience in QC and probably a top 10 meal of my life. Don t be spooked about not finding a menu online - you will not be disappointed and it will be worth it to experience the server grabbing the room s attention to explain the menu in detail (in French and English!) and trusting their cocktail and wine recommendations. The food was amazing. Our wine recommended by our server was delicious. We were having so much fun we didn t even realize we were the last ones in the restaurant, and our amazing server brought over 3 little glasses of an orange liqueur and we did a shot together to close out the evening. It was so much fun.

Certainly the best address of our stay, the food is excellent (special mention for the beef, to die for), the friendly setting and the adorable servers, a must in Quebec!

This place is everything I love about dining. Its raw its real, its unpretentious and has a personality that, if you really love dining, you cant help but love. Nic and his staff are outstanding and create amazing food in some pretty unconventional ways. Sitting at the bar and watching them work, and getting to interact with them, was a perfect experience. If I lived in Quebec, Id be here at least once a month. Merci bien mon amis!!!!!!

Best gastronomical experience ever

We have visited this place a few times and keep coming back because the food is consistently excellent. The portions are generous, like the steak frites, and the cooking (especially the octopus) is perfect! It s a great place to enjoy sweetbreads, which we absolutely love. We are always impressed by the chefs creativity. Where things fall short is with the service. Firstly, the welcome is confusing, leaving us feeling unattended. The service approach is extremely inconsistent, often too friendly, almost to the point of being rude. We understand you dont want to offer a stuffy service, but we believe there is a sweet spot. Having the menus on the board is a nice touch, but 20-30 minutes wait to have it explained cause you need to explain it to the entire room at once 1. We cant hear what you re saying, and 2. It takes way too long to get everyone ready. Choosing to present your menu verbally is great, keeping in mind it should be convenient for both the service and customers is greater. Some little attentions that would makes huge difference; bringing the wine list, not forgetting utensils with the main course, suggesting bread when there is delays, proposing sharing plates, cleaning the nice but old and very stained coffee / water carafe Additionally, the overall cleanliness leaves much to be desired. Don t look up at the light fixtures and the board above the kitchen.

We travel and dine out often, nationally and internationally! This little restaurant in Quebec is the most memorable 5 star experience in every way out of them all. Years later and we still think and talk about it. We may have ordered two extra orders of sweetbreads because even our young kids loved that dish so much! Kid-friendliness: We were traveling with our 6 and 8 year old and they were fantastic with our kids.

Like you are sitting in someone s dining room. We are so glad our hotel concierge recommended this non-touristy place (even thought we were tourists ). A very small place with 5-6 tables for 20-22 people. Seems to be a two person operation. One manages the dining room and the other manages the kitchen. They have only two seatings each evening. No set menu, just what is fresh and it is written on a blackboard. Mostly meat heavy but they were able to accommodate multiple restrictions for us, and we were able to have a pescatarian meal. Highly recommend for all people visiting Quebec City.

Very cozy and laid back restaurant. They serve customers in batches and all diners progress at the same pace. The menu is communicated to everyone once in French and once in English, although the English version is moderately briefer. This place is suitable for people who want to hang out, drink wine, and eat great food. The meal progresses slowly, first half hour was mostly drinking, then an hour for appetizers, and finally one more hour for entrées. (I didn t get dessert) The menu changes so not everyone would experience this, but when I went the restaurant got smoky to the point where the entire room seemed foggy and it became a bit difficult to breathe. Likely too many people ordered food that involved brown butter at once. The food was excellent, and highly recommend ordering the sweetbread (which seems to be a staple on the menu).

We had the octopus as an appetizer followed by the entres: halibut, steak, and lamb shank. All were solid.

Wonderful experience. A bit away from the old part of the city, in a more hip part of town. The decor is absolutely no frills and the kitchen looks like your grandmother s kitchen but oh wow, amazing food. Each dish is beautifully constructed and delicious. The beef steak was exceptional. Hard to believe it comes out of a home kitchen. It s a leisurely evening, don t expect to be in and out in a hurry but definitely worth the wait!

Delicious, impeccable. Definitely my favorite restaurant!

Last May 19, we had an extraordinary culinary experience. In a small restaurant where you dont go there for the decor, but for the flavors and the quality of the products. We started with sweetbreads and salmon gravlax. It simply tasted like heaven... For main courses, Halibut served on a sea urchin sauce and Scallops with Black Pudding, OMG, the marriage of flavors of each dish is sublime. Special mention to the chef for his generosity in the dishes and his passion in the kitchen. And what about the service, the very friendly waiters, especially Jordan. I recommend this famous restaurant in lower town Quebec!!

Unfortunately didn t even get to dine as despite an 8:30 reservation we all awkwardly waited outside for 30 min before finally being allowed in. There seemed to be only one server who was greeting each table and taking drink orders. Many other people walking around but no water offered or even a hello. We were expecting a casual non-rushed experience but by not even having a water or drink 40 min after a reservation time we knew this would be the longest dinner ever. I m sure the food is great given all the other reviews but perhaps the earlier seating is the way to go. I ve never walked out of a restaurant but this night we did and it was the best decision as we stumbled on an exceptional wine bar with farm to table small plates. Highly recommend a visit to Restaurant Ouroboros down the street!!

Ive tried many excellent restaurants but this one is.... How to describe it to you.... Number 1... Yes yes one in my top ten. Its all there. The place, the musical atmosphere, the boys team and the excellent food. Its down to hundredths of a point with the restaurant Restaurant Chez Saint-Pierre (Cheffe Colombe St-Pierre)... The Est Ketchup affair has just taken the lead in the ranking and therefore number one. Thank you thank you boys. Ive tried a lot of excellent restaurants but this one is... The number 1... Yes yes one in my top ten. Everything is perfect. The place, the musical atmosphere, the boys team and the excellent food.

Would give 6 stars if possible. Incredible food, cozy and relaxed unpretentious atmosphere combined with great and friendly service. Our waiter Jordan did a fantastic job in French and English breaking down the menu for the night, making recommendations, and was attentive, friendly, and charismatic throughout. Food was incredible and not overpriced, our table of 3 split 2 bottles of wine, 3 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 2 desserts for a very reasonable price. Would absolutely recommend to anyone visiting looking for the best French food I ve ever had. The sweetbreads and veal tataki are must get appetizers, and the duck, steak, and pork roulade were incredible as well.

Excellent food and service. We had a sweet bread to share for appetizer. Then I had the duck and husband had the scallop and blood pudding. My friend got tuna and octopus. We all rounded things up with a cheesecake for dessert. Everything was so good and fresh. They change the menu frequently based on whatever fresh ingredients are available. The experience was fun too - everyone got seated, then the waiter went over the entire menu and we ordered at the same time. Will definitely be back. The only thing to note is ventilation was not the best so you had a ton of smoke inside while the kitchen was cooking.

Some of the best food I ve had in ages. The Sweetbreads were a wondering and the incredible truffle sauce it s served with is sensational and perfect for sopping up with bread. The service was spectacular and attentive, drinks were delicious and it was all around a really wonderful evening of some really exceptional food.

Everything was an awesome experience. The restaurant is small and intimate, the servers knew English and French and were very kind. I felt like I was in somebody s home and they were having us over for dinner. The food was absolutely delicious, I can t say enough good things about it.

We were a group of three friends and the experience was more than perfect. Firstly, Jordans service was exceptional: knowledgeable about his products, friendly as can be: he made our experience really pleasant and his wine recommendations were perfect. By the way: very nice, well-crafted wine list. The food was truly a superb discovery: original and masterful, creative menu and all in a relaxed and friendly setting.

Best sweetbreads of my life and Ive tasted several! The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Dont expect a chic restaurant decor, but a small, welcoming restaurant as if we were all a gang of friends. It was my first time and certainly not the last!

I see why there s such a hype. Very unassuming spot. When we asked the waiter what the best thing on the menu was and he said everything, we doubted him. But he was right. We licked every single plate clean. The wine pours were on point. We had the sweetbread, nicoise salad, scallops and the fish cake. We sent back plates so clean you could ve reused them. I can t pick a favorite. Also the brownie dessert is heavenly brownie batter. Just do it. The laid back vibe plus good food is worth a visit.

Favorite restaurant when we visit Quebec. For the friendly atmosphere as if we were staying with friends. A slate menu with magnificent products carefully presented. Magnificent wine and cocktail list. Thanks to Jordan and Sabri for the attentive service and to the kitchen team for the know-how that keeps us coming back. I recommend the starter of mushrooms/pork shoulder/egg at 64° with meat juice, the starter of seafood salad with mussels and bourgots on potatoes (very fresh), the tender pan-fried scallops as a main course as well as the beef striploin.

We had such a great experience at L affaire est Ketchup! It was one of our favorite things we did in our time in Quebec and definitely the best meal we had which is saying a lot since all the food in Quebec is fantastic. Eating here feels like you are in someone s living room, such a homey feeling. The food was delicious and the service so friendly and fun! If you are adventurous definitely try the sweetbreads you will not regret it! They were incredible!!

The sweetbreads starter was great. The mushroom starter with pulled pork started out ok, then quickly became meh. The beef main, fine. Beef starter, meh. Very hit or miss. But the sweetbreads was one incredible hit. Vegetarian options: Very few. Very meat forward. Wheelchair accessibility: None.

Every so often, a restaurant experience is so great that it makes me feel guilty about how easily I give away 4 and 5 star reviews. My wife and I had an absolute blast. Everything about the experience was wonderful. All tables were seated together, allowing the servers to read the menu aloud to everyone at once. This made it feel more like a fun group event than a typical meal at a restaurant. Our server was passionate about the menu and happily took our invitation to make selections for us (both food and drinks). Everything we were served was genuinely incredible. We brought our friends here for a dinner, and the food was surprisingly good; the service is warm and friendly. Itll be perfect place to hold a pleasant dinner if they could provide bigger tables and lift the 2-hours dinner time restriction. But its still one of my recommended restaurants in Quebec city.

This restaurant was the most disappointing dining experience of our entire vacation. We reserved ahead and were so excited with all the hype. The service was great but the food was pretty terrible. We tried 4 different dishes and honestly none of them were good. It was all so overpriced and not worth the money at all. Sadly, I wouldnt eat here again even for free. After eating here we literally needed to get some other food to get rid of the taste, thats how bad it was.

When I say this restaurant served me the best bite of food I have ever had, I really, really mean it. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. This place delivers on all fronts. The vibe is very low key, intimate, and the food is so, so well crafted, and YET totally not pretentious or inaccessible. Before you order, the chef comes out and explains the menu, how the food is cooked, and everything. Our group had someone who was vegetarian, and although they had no options for her, they were willing to make her both an appetizer AND a main with what they had. It was so lovely. I had the tataki veal as a starter, and it was nothing short of fantastic. The flavours were perfect. It was a perfect dish. My main was a pan seared duck breast, which- although cooked perfectly, did make me realize I preferred beef over duck (my friend traded me a bite of his hangar steak, which was STELLAR, and he very VERY much liked my duck). Come here. Book a reso. I would drive through the city just for this restaurant. AND THE PRICES ARE REASONABLE! It was by FAR the best food experience I had this summer and not NEARLY the most expensive.

First time visiting Quebec City, and this place was the highlight of our trip. Every dish was perfectly cooked, including the brownie dessert. The staff were friendly, humble, and fun. This was one of the best meals we ve ever had and we eat out A LOT and have travelled all over. We were 4 people and ordered everything off the menu to try. The black pudding, sweet bread, beef and fois gras, fish cake were stand out but the entire meal was just exceptional! The staff are so wonderful, great characters, they stand up at the beginning of service and explain the menu to the entire restaurant which was a unique touch. They recommended great wines to pair with our meal. We will recommend this place to everyone we know. Thank you for such a great experience.

My partner and I were warmly cared for by the staff at LAffaire est ketchup. Everything was memorable, from the way we were greeted, the playlist, the atmosphere, and the conversation! We heard about this restaurant from an Anthony Bourdain episode (as does everyone I guess). Absolutely fabulous restaurant. My wife and I loved the atmosphere. Our host, Jordan, described the vibe as soft and we agree. It is inviting and relaxed. Jordan was charming and recommended great wine. The menu varies but a few highlights were - A - the pork belly with apple purée sauce and - B - the rice pudding with salted caramel. All the food was great though. This is a famous restaurant and we appreciated the staff allowing us to take pictures of the kitchen area. If you are looking for a fun and elevated home style meal in grandma s cozy kitchen, this is the place. As Jordan would say with all my love .

We revisited after 10 years, and the food was just as memorable, the staff just as friendly. The food is delicious and interesting but unpretentious. My best piece of advice is to trust your server and you wont be disappointed.

Clinched a last minute 6pm reservation here and it was absolutely wonderful. Their vibe is super chill, friendly, yet energetic/efficient. Got the: veal sweetbread (ris de veau), fish dumplings, and the duck, paired with a very crushable white wine from Spain. Some additional info: - There are two dinner services: 6pm and 8:30pm. Try to arrive on time as they will explain the menu in detail to everyone, take everyones order, then the courses come out in sync across tables. - The chalkboard menu is split into two sections: appetizers and mains (e.g., ris de veau is an appetizer, duck is a main). An appetizer and main per person works pretty well.

Très belle soirée dans ce resto petit et chaleureux. Un décor sans prétention qui nous rappelle des airs de taverne/appartement de fin de party de party où on se sent rapidement a laise! Rien de laisse présager un menu raffiné avec des produits locaux/de saison avec plein de saveurs et un cellier restreint mais diversifié. De quoi faire plaisir aux connaisseurs! Très cool !

The food was delicious and the service exceptional. This is the second time Ive been there and I was completely satisfied! Im giving it 4 stars out of 5 because there was a lot of smoke yesterday. I felt dizzy at one point and have a sore throat today... I saw that the staff opened the doors to try to remedy the situation and they were really trying their best... but it was really uncomfortable situation! I understand the concept of a small kitchen but you need to invest in better ventilation or repair the equipment at this stage!

For lovers of sweetbreads, you have to try it, one of the best I have eaten. We were there this summer and it can be very hot there but the service and the atmosphere make us forget this little downside. The most friendly service.

We had a great evening at the restaurant for one of my best friends birthday. Everything on the menu was delicious. I also have to admit that the sweetbreads are the best in town. The dishes are all original and the portions generous. The selection of privately imported wine bottles does not disappoint and is available at reasonable prices. Warm atmosphere, we feel welcomed as if we were part of the family. The team received us well, personalized and impeccable service. The 2 servers were very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend. We will definitely come back.

We are seasoned epicureans who visit many of the good restaurants in Quebec and this nestled place can easily slip into the top in Quebec. Service A1. Attentive, personalized and very easy-going. One of the assets of this restaurant, obviously with the quality of the cuisine. More than reasonable price for the quality. It was unanimous: we will return very soon and recommend it to everyone! 5/5

Do it. Make the reservation right now. One of my favorite experiences in Quebec City. I joined the crowd for the 6pm seating on the sidewalk outside of an incredibly unassuming storefront a few minutes before 6pm. The doors were open at promptly 6 and we were all shown to our seats. I was lucky enough to be seated at 1 of the 3 bar seats and would absolutely recommend sitting here if possible. Once everyone arrived they reviewed the menu in the center of the room and we were able to put our orders in. I got the Sweetbread, which I honestly didn t know what I was getting and naively assumed I d be getting a loaf of brioche. What I got blew my mind, it was amazing. I had the fish which I had no complaints about. Sitting at the bar, the chef also topped my plate with extra calamari and octopus they had leftover. Dessert was the only part of my meal that didn t feel lived up to everything else. The brownie was gooey, but nothing super special. Though certainly wasn t bad. I absolutely would return here. All of the staff spoke both French and English and were happy to answer any and all questions.
