L'Entrecôte Saint-Jean in Québec City

I spent the best night of my life at lentrecôte saint-jean. Laura, Marvin and Eve were very nice and serviable, they made the evening very joyful and lovable. I loved the staff, the drinks, and the food, everything was very demure and mindful. 100% recommend, best place in town!!!

Everything about this place is absolutely stellar. From the lighting and ambiance, to the food it was all next level. Not only is the food delicious, but if you opt in to their steak and fries meal, you get an entire 4 course meal for only $38/person. Incredible!

It was my last night in Québec City and I was looking for a good steak. Google directed me to this wonderful restaurant, and it did not disappoint! It was quite crowded (6 PM), and I was seated at the bar. The bartender did a fantastic job taking my order, serving up a good drink and making sure all my needs were met even though he was super busy. The food came out in a timely manner, and I was very satisfied. The chocolate profiteroles were my favorite, along with a good cup of coffee. The prices were very reasonable and I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Service was very slow, waitress attended to other guest who arrived after we did. Entrecôte sauce is poor quality. Wine was served that must have been open for a long time because it smelt awful. Don t bother with the drink specials, the glasses are very small and not worth the price. No idea how the ratings were higher on this place, we went by that which is what led us here. This was the most insane food I ever had at a great price and with the best service out there, seriously consider this place.

We ate here as part of a tour group and had a very ordinary meal downstairs. This must be just one aspect of their business. The folks upstairs - normal diners - had a much more elaborate menu and actual ambience. Downstairs, it was a choice of 3-4 meals, very little customer service - we felt like an unwelcome school group. Funnily enough, when we price checked, we paid more for our meal than the upstairs diners, which was disappointing. So if youre heading here as part of a tour group, skip it and go elsewhere - there are lots of other options close by. Or just eat upstairs!

Nice to find steak fries for a French person after poutines and burgers! A French-style brasserie. The fries are crispy and the meat was cooked as requested. The chocolate cake was perfect, as was the welcome. Flawless!

Some of the worst poutine I ve ever had. The cheese was cold and hadn t even melted because they saved on the gravy, which had no taste whatsoever. The entrecôte wasn t medium rare as I asked for, and the coffee was of very low quality. The service wasn t nothing to applaud about either. Faced with such a bad experience, we decided not to tip, however, the waitress confronted us saying that the tip was not included in the price. We then explained why we didn t tip, but she didn t accepted at first and kept arguing that if we seat in a restaurant we re expected to tip, making everyone uncomfortable and eventually walked away wishing us good luck . Such a terrible experience and mediocre food. I just don t get why this place has got such a high rate, and it was another example of how bad this tipping culture has become.

We went there last night with our 2 young boys. The food was delicious and the service was fast. The staff was incredibly friendly which made the evening pleasant! We had a great time and we will be coming back here next time we are in the city.

3rd experience there. Very nice restaurant, nice atmosphere and the service is very professional. Unfortunately, my doubts are confirmed about the famous entre-côte which is not one. Usually, a rib steak is a strip or sirloin depending on the culture, but what I ate each time was simply a misshapen, irregular and tenderized piece of thigh accompanied by half a bag of frozen julienne. Being invited to each visit I didnt make a fuss of it in the dining room but I find it fraudulent and disappointing. The secret is in the sauce camouflages the origin of the steak very well, and eating it without the so-called sauce reveals meat without texture, without fat, and without flavor... quite the opposite of what it is. a real steak. I hope to return there one day to relive this beautiful atmosphere, the excellent service and to finally be able to eat a real steak. THANKS

Vegetable soup was smooth with a good scent of carrot. However, the salad was very mushy and too nutty from the walnuts. Steak was too tough and cooked too much for a medium rare, but the sauce was great. The desert was okay. You get what you pay for it here.

If you love good meat, go somewhere else. We came upon a recommendation and thought that if a restaurant is already called LEntrecôte, you just have to order it. Ordered medium, well done and very chewy. The waitress didnt show up after serving. Unpleasant: 15% for the service ended up on the bill without being asked. What if someone is very satisfied and wants to give more, what if someone is not at all satisfied with the service provided and wants to give less? You probably know about the poor service and want to secure at least 15% Edit Based on the answer: we both ordered medium doneness and the comment about the language barrier is ridiculous: we speak both English and French, so the rating remains. Apart from that, the meat served is not entrecôte, although advertised as such.

The service was excellent, the waiter very friendly and helpful. A fast, polite and welcoming team, no complaints on this point. However, I was a little disappointed with the entrecôte... It was good, but as you can see in the photos, there were burnt pieces on both sides, which suggests that the pans should be cleaned more regularly during service. (Advice) On the other hand, the ribs were truly exceptional, and the steak sauce was a real delight. The fried potatoes were also delicious. I recommend the ribs without hesitation. I also had a lychee cocktail, which was delicious, although I found the quantity to be a little low for the price. However, the taste was on point, so that is forgiven. The atmosphere is great and, as I already mentioned, the service is excellent. So I recommend this place!

We had a delicious meal here recommended by our tour guide earlier in the day. The steak was flavorful and tender, and the fries crisp. Our waitress was attentive. We recommend getting reservations here early in the day. We waited until the afternoon and the first available was 8:15pm. This is late for us. However, when we showed up earlier, the maitred found us seats earlier, which we appreciated very much!

Entrecote Saint Jean remains a classic that is always good to return to. The quality is there but the cuts of meat are no longer like before. Dont worry, theyre still very good. The soup is absolutely delicious, the walnut salad very good and the profiterols need no presentation. The service received this evening by our waitress was simply perfect: fast, friendly and friendly. Hat! Shall we go back? Of course!

I had wanted to try it for a long time and I imagined a tender, juicy and well-prepared steak. The steak was not tender at all and was really overcooked. A real boot sole, almost difficult to cut. I didnt feel like hanging out with the waiter and I wanted to eat at the same time as my companion and the time to get my plate had already been too long and delayed because of a group that was at the same time as us. The waiter offered me nothing, beer, bread, or wine to accommodate me. Moreover, the atmosphere and service is palpable that we are in a very stingy place. By the way, to pass the deadline, I ordered myself another beer. I was hungry but with every bite I ate, I told myself that it was impossible to serve this steak to customers. I should have gone to Iga and made this on my barbecue at home. I will never go back there and I dont advise anyone to go there. I looked at the plates and the people around and my opinion seemed to be very divided with the other customers. What a disappointment!!!! And what a waste of money. NEVER.

I had tried making a reservation through the google maps and nothing was available until later. We went ahead and walked there from our hotel and were seated immediately outside. We both ordered the house special. If you are American like us, you won t see the word steak but it is essentially steak and fries. We ordered the smaller size as it comes with soup of the day, salad, bread, steak cooked to order with an amazing sauce and matchstick fries. There is also coffee and dessert(cream puff shell filled with vanilla ice cream and covered in chocolate sauce and almond slivers). All was delicious. I had 2white sangrias and my partner had a beer. Total before tip was $130 which is reasonable for the area and everything that you get.

Don t trust the 1 star reviews. Not sure why anyone would complain about the service or the portion size (maybe they are American?) but the portions are perfect considering you get 4 courses, we left stuffed, can t imagine anyone leaving there hungry if they order the Table D Hôte. This place reminds me of my many family dinners. The food is always delicious and the staff is friendly.

My wife had the duck confit which was very delicious. The side salad served with it was tasteless and dry. It needed more dressing for sure. I had the steak frites The steak was cooked perfectly but I thought it was a little bland, needed more seasoning Also the famous mustard sauce was not that flavorful. The matchstick fries are quite tasty although you have to ask for ketchup as its not typically something served at a French restaurant. A table along the sidewalk was very nice.

Weve been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time. We were really disappointed! Very warm welcome, pleasant atmosphere and good, fast service, but the food is really not worth the price... We each had a poutine, either the duck one or the rib-eye steak, both were really ordinary. At $28 a poutine we expect something high in quality, but it was quite the opposite. Sauce, meat and fries without taste, really not worthy of a restaurant of this type.. It doesnt make you want to go back there unfortunately, shocking to pay a lot for that!

I recently dined at L Entrecote Saint-Jean and, unfortunately, had a very disappointing experience. I ordered a medium-well steak, but it arrived almost raw. I had to send it back, which meant waiting while my husband ate his meal. When I finally received my steak, it still wasn t cooked properly, especially given the high price. To make matters worse, when we left a 5% tip based on the poor experience, the waiter confronted us, asking why we tipped so little and mentioning that he needed to share tips with others. He was quite rude, and it made an already unpleasant evening even worse. While I understand the importance of tipping, being pressured like that is unacceptable. I personally won t be returning to this restaurant, and I hope they can improve their service and food quality for future customers.

The last 2 times I went, my salad was soft, the chicken EXTREMELY HARD and overcooked, like rocks, I spoke about it with my server....... he never came back to me with my request and even spoke again as if I had said nothing to him. In the past, we had not been very satisfied with the tenderness of the rib-eye steak. We still decided to go back again, considering that the previous experience could be circumstantial. Our steaks were not cooked as requested. My friends was burnt on the top and bottom and rather medium rare even though he asked for it pink (medium) Mine was blue even though I asked for it rare. We were offered to iron them on the grill. Uhhh . Certainly not! What I expect is to receive a well-cooked dish on the first serving, not a successful steak on a second cooking. This has been proposed and I appreciate it. The sauce and fries were delicious as usual. However, $140 for fries and gravy and a 1/2 bottle of wine is quite a lot to pay. We ate the more cooked parts of the steaks and left half on the plate, Strange thing that I havent experienced anywhere else and I would appreciate receiving an answer, because I didnt get one from the attendant: We ordered a 1/2 bottle of wine. She told us that the wine would be poured into a carafe without the ½ bottle being brought to the table and without it being possible to see the bottle even though we had asked. The wine is poured into a carafon.......What is in the carafon? Only the bartender on duty or the server knows this and not the customer, the one who pays. Unacceptable!!! This time will probably be the last.

I have a cows milk intolerance. I repeatedly asked the waiter, does this meal have any dairy? Butter, cream? He gave me a 100% guarantee. The guarantee ran out at 3 am when I spent 2 hours in the bathroom, sicker than a dog. Thus is really not on. My meal obviously contained dairy and now one whole day of my vacation is lost. The waiter thought it was a big joke.

Excellent restaurant with very reasonable prices! Our table loved the steak frites meal as well as the salmon entree. The 7oz steak frites was the perfect size, especially since it comes with a soup and dessert. All of the food was extremely fresh and even during peak dinner time, the wait was only a few minutes! We left wanting the recipe for the mustard sauce that s used on the steak frites! Worth the stop!

This restuarant is an amazing value. The steaks are great and well priced. They offer a 4 course meal including a soup and salad with steak and then dessert and coffee for a very reasonable price. The salad was particularly good. Prices on the steak meals vary based on the size you get. You can order you steaks in either a 5,7, or 9 oz option. I really hope to return to this place.

Having frequented lEntrecote in Toulouse and Paris, I wanted to compare it with the one in Quebec... although the concept is very similar (the star dish is the entrecote with very thin fries and the famous sauce), the flavor is not quite the same, although it is good. And it is in a perfect place, the pedestrian area of St Jean Street, very lively! The price, if you order the salad+entrecôte+dessert+coffee formula, is very reasonable! The only thing that could be improved would be if they gave you a choice between American coffee (the one included in the menu) and espresso.

For my part, my 9 ounce piece of meat didnt look like entrecote at all. Im still skeptical. The famous St-Jean sauce lacked creaminess. We had an excellent evening with impeccable service and consistently good food. Very good value for money. Thank you to the owner Eric and his team for his welcome and for meeting our expectations so well. Looking forward to going back there.

First of all, the staff is very professional. Even though the restaurant was full, everyone was paying attention to everything. I really liked the staff. The food was amazing and delicious. It was a very simple plate, but they made it very special and delicious.

We really enjoyed our meal - food quality was the best feature. The room is standard and service was ample. A very convenient location in the upper town to access all it has to offer, and prices pretty good.

The location is bustling and perfectly captures the touristy vibe of the area. We started with the soup of the day, which was absolutely delicious. For the main course, I opted for the Duck Leg Confit. I requested a larger salad instead of the usual French fries, and I was not disappointed; the duck was flavourful, juicy, and beautifully cooked. The Sunset on the Beach cocktail was a delightful surprise with a robust kick of alcohol, making it a memorable part of the meal. For dessert, we had Crème Brûlée accompanied by biscuits. While the crème brûlée was decadent and thoroughly enjoyable, the biscuits were unfortunately very dry and did not complement the dessert well. A note on pricing being in a tourist-heavy area, the prices at LEntrecôte Saint-Jean are somewhat above average. However, the quick service and attentive waiter helped justify the cost and added to the overall positive experience. While the meal had its highs, the mixed quality of the desserts and the slightly premium prices are worth keeping in mind. We made a reservation and they were very accommodating and was super nice. Our waiter, Marvin was fantastic, observant and friendly. Most of us got the set menu and felt the dish was worth its price. The desert *delicious* Kid-friendliness: One of the owners or the men taking care of the front was nice and friendly. He gave us a highchair without asking. The kids menu were big size meals in my opinion.

Great location and atmosphere, the servers are attentive and the manager was very accommodating of my grandparents who didn t speak english or french. The poutine could use some more gravy to melt the cheese but the duck leg was perfect.

Delicious meal. Small but perfect menu. Prompt and friendly service. Probably not for vegetarians!

We went there for dinner. Very good service and what can I say about the entrecote. Tender, well cooked, excellent. Table dhôte menu at dinner time Very affordable. We will return without hesitation.

The steak was decent, though it didnt compare to the renowned Le Relais Entrecôte chain. The service, however, was exceptional, with Mathew being especially cheerful and attentive to every detail.

An excellent restaurant which offers a menu of modest size, but of high quality. The welcome and service are impeccable. The sequences of dishes are done at a very pleasant pace, which allows you to have a great time in a refined setting. A must-see on rue Saint Jean.
