Absolute gem of a restaurant with delicious food, friendly service, and quaint atmosphere. Menu items are unique and prepared perfectly with fresh ingredients. Definitely recommend reservations, especially on weekends, in order to ensure you get to experience Le Hobbit.

I stumbled upon this restaurant while walking behind the hotel and ended up having brunch there—it was so good that I made a reservation for dinner too. The food was delicious and fresh, and the plating was great, and friendly staffs! The dinner menu portions are a bit small, so needed to order many dishes. Overall, I think brunch is the better option. Plus, if you dine in a get a coffee, you get one time refill for free.

Cute neighborhood restaurant, cozy atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. And the best part: the food is exceptional. Creatively and artistically created with just the right balance of tastes and textures. Different than anything we’ve had yet in Quebec. Excellent blood pudding — never had it before but tried it and was delighted. The open ravioli was delicious. And the figs and goat cheese mousse for dessert. Wow! Worth an effort to get there.

We dropped in for a small meal and holy cow! The food was incredible and the drinks equally delicious. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and very willing to share. We had an open ravioli and the lions mane small plates as well as a zucchini croquette and all three dishes made us take one bite and simply savor the flavors. Highly recommend The Hobbit when in Quebec!

Had a great but light brunch here, with super friendly and informative service (thanks for being so amazing)! We had the salmon gravlax, which was the highlight dish, we would definitely recommend. We had an Eggs Benedict which was very good too, and finally had a very refreshing cucumber drink which was recommended by the staff, lived up to its refreshing and tasty recommendation. A cute spot with nice indoor seating and a small outdoor patio too. Their dinner menu looked very appetizing and look forward to trying that in the future. Thanks!

The restaurant staff is very friendly, making it a great way to start the day with a good conversation. I ordered the big brunch, which is very filling and good in both quantity and quality. The food is served on a heated plate, keeping it hot for longer. The coffee is decent, though nothing spectacular. They also offer jam or peanut butter for your toast. The ambiance is good, very clean, with soothing music. The staff is very friendly and makes an effort to speak English since I'm not fluent in French. I’ll definitely come back again.

I had brunch here and it was so delicious that I returned for dinner. The atmosphere in the restaurant was great, and the staff were incredibly friendly and kind. Even the simple brunch items like bacon, sausage, and potatoes were very tasty and showcased the chef's skill. We also had hummus and egg dishes for brunch, and everyone in our group was very satisfied. For dinner, we had fried bread, scallops, salad, steak, and the seafood of the day, and everything was excellent. This is definitely a restaurant I would visit again next time I’m in Quebec.

Maybe theyre under staffed today but man the service is slow AF here.. been here for over an hour now and we only had a piece of bread that we ordered 30 mins ago.. would not come here again considering how slow they are. Really disappointed because this is my husband and my last dinner in Quebec before we leave to Boston.

December 21, 2024

Ok, so this was our favourite restaurant in QC until we had push back from the waitress telling us it was our fault for not eating our steak fast enough! It was supposed to be medium rare but came out medium well and dry AF. Apparently a steak keeps on cooking in your plate duh ! So sad!

December 21, 2024

We ve been regulars here, mostly for brunch, and have always enjoyed the food. Unfortunately, last night s dinner was a real disappointment, especially the steak. To start, there s only one doneness option for the steak: medium rare. Odd for a restaurant of this caliber, but we figured they must have perfected it. Turns out, we were wrong. The steak arrived almost entirely well-done, with only the faintest hint of pink in the center. We sent it back, expecting the mistake to be addressed professionally. Instead, the waitress met us with defensiveness and a baffling excuse: Your steak was overcooked because you didn t eat it fast enough. As a chef, I know how absurd that claim is. Overcooking happens in the kitchen, not on the plate after it s served. I chose to walk away rather than escalate the situation, but the rudeness of that interaction left a bitter taste. Had they handled the mistake with grace, I might have returned. But after that encounter, I won t be coming back. It s a shame to see a place we used to enjoy fall so short.

A lovely experience overall. We had the pleasure of dining here on a Monday night. We had the squash donut, which wasnt anything we expected but a pleasant surprise. The open ravioli as an appetizer was underwhelming for the price, in our humble opinion, it was small and not as decadent as we hoped it would be, but taste is subjective and I would not discourage one to try it. For 17 $, however, we expected more. The pork tenderloin was nice, but a little on the dry side. The service takes time between courses, and the wine by the glass was not a usual pour and at a relatively hefty price point for the quantity. There are many restaurants in the area; I think a few tweaks may be necessary for a return visit to be warranted.

Very good refined cuisine, ++ for the pork loin and the ravioli. The restaurant setting is really nice. I would like to make a small remark, there is little space between the tables which makes the room noisy (also note, a table of 11 in the center of the room) but that does not detract from the quality of the restaurant, I recommend!

Very good restaurant with magnificent decor, the staff is very welcoming and pleasant. The plates are very well presented BUT! We waited 1 hour for 2 dishes . This was extremely long knowing that we were expected within an hour of our arrival. The waiters were kind enough to offer us bread and dessert to make up for it. We highlight the commercial gesture but unfortunately we will not return there, far too much too long to wait for 2 simple dishes, 1 hour is just not possible. We almost left without eating because time was passing quickly!

This restaurant had a nice ambiance but the food and service were super disappointing. The wait time for our table was almost twenty minutes. It was over twenty minutes before anyone came to take our order. And we waited more than thirty minutes for our food which arrived cold. Thats over an hour of waiting for disappointing meals. And our server even forgot one of our starters. Its almost unbelievable that we charge over $20 for a cold poached egg with cold hummus. I would not recommend this restaurant.

November 22, 2024

Attention tourist June 2023 Waitress: In Quebec you have to leave a minimum of 20% I understand that on a French table almost $2000 in turnover, $100 more for the waitress is fine. Please dont do this, its called extortion. Respect everyone. THANKS

It was my first visit and I was disappointed with my dish, but the dishes my friends ordered looked delicious. I do not recommend the Buratina: I did not appreciate this duo of tartlet and burrata. I didnt understand this association between these two elements... Anyway, other than that, I had a great evening. The service was very friendly, but we waited a few times for requests during the evening. Nice place to try! A gem in Quebec! Vacation food is often taken over by pub after pub, Caesar salad, fish and chips, and other friend foods. La Hobbit (in addition to having an awesome name) was a breathe of fresh air. Many little plates of carefully crafted delicacies covered our table in a mosaic of sights and aromas. Even the bread and butter was amazing! The wait staff was knowledgeable of the menu and helped us navigate some tricky dietary restrictions. Added bonus, the cocktail menu was great too. If Im ever back in Quebec, this is my only stop for dinner.

My husband, two adult children and I ate here on Sunday night. The service started out wonderfully but our main courses took an extremely long time to come out. We lived in Europe for many, many years and know to be patient when waiting for good food, so we waited and didnt say anything. But eventually when the food came out it was all cold. Cold ravioli, cold cod and cold pork. (The burrata was supposed to be cold, so that one Im not upset about.) Moreover, when the waitress brought our food she was not smiling, didnt say enjoy your meal... in fact, I dont think she said anything at all. Its like she completely changed from the lovely charming person who seated us and brought our appetizers. I think she knew they had messed up our meals. The thing that that we found most dismaying is that no one said ANYTHING. Not Im sorry its taking so long, or Was your meal okay?.... or anything at all. Its like we suddenly got the silent treatment along with cold food. And if the food had been hot (or even warm!) it would have been amazing. The flavors were wonderful.

Having mentioned that it was for my birthday when booking, we were welcomed with glasses of bubbles. The food is incredible, we love the potatoes every time we come for both brunch and dinner (a must, no matter what form!) We love the tapas formula which allows us to taste lots of stuff. Small problem with the waiting time for desserts, but compensated for by the good atmosphere and the excellent service of our server. The server was cool and the food was not bad but the portions were incredibly small which is why the review is 3 star. We ordered the 3 course prix fixe for $45. Appetizer was 4 small bites. Pasta course was 3 pieces of ravioli. Protein course was literally 1 scallop. The only great tasting item was that single scallop. Also we specified no pork but were served a pork blood pudding which had to be sent back.

What a disappointment! To think that there was a time when I particularly loved this charming restaurant on rue St-Jean, where I went a few times a year. I was really disappointed during my last visit, July 1, 2024. The lunch menu, now tapas style, is no longer accessible and the dishes were really ordinary. The two of us ate a plate of blood sausage and a plate of eggs benedict. There are no accompaniments on the plates. You have to order bread ($3), bacon ($4.75), potatoes ($8), coffee, etc. separately. We got away with it, for 2 lunches (breakfasts), with a bill of $101.00, including 15% tip. I find that really unfortunate. This was definitely my last visit to this restaurant.

Went to have brunch at this restaurant with some friends. I first ate there in 2018 or 2019 - that time i had eggs benedicts on a parisbrest bread, and it was honestly one of the best eggs benedicts i ve had - so i was really excited to go back. Sadly, my experience this time was not great. While the service and atmosphere were excellent, I was very disappointed with the food, as the portions were much smaller than they used to be, and the food was extremely blend (barely any taste in most dishes except maybe the bene-ghetti which had some flavour). Won t be recommending that place anymore unless they step-up (and they need to step up quite a lot).

Love this restaurant! The food is incredible . The waiter took his time to explain everything about the plate. Very cozy atmosphere. Also, I was informed they change the menu every 6 weeks or so to keep it fresh and use seasonal ingredients. Highly recommend!!

It was great experience to dine here. The location of the restaurant and its aesthetic gives it such a great and cozy vibe, very elegant. The service was quick, and the employees kind and resourceful! The food was splendid and plenty in terms of serving. The only critique I d have to make is that the menu is a little restricted, with only four meal options (other than the entries). I don t think there are many vegan options, maybe vegetarian.

Le Hobbit was one of the best meals from start to finish we ve ever eaten. We started with two appetizers pickled mushrooms and a dish of roasted carrots with pressed bread and lobster sauce. The presentation of the carrot dish was gorgeous but the taste blew us away. One of us ordered the fish of the day and the other a Cornish chicken. Both plates were scraped clean. Although we were pretty full, we ordered dessert simply to see how they would end such a great experience. They did not disappoint (the carrot cake was amazing!) Our waitress was friendly, warm and really fun. I highly recommend it and would make a trip to Quebec City again just for those carrots!

We had no booking for this restaurant and was lucky to get a table for our early dinner at 5.45pm. The restaurant had a very cosy ambience with perfect lighting and background music. We were greeted warmly by our waitress Karel who introduced the 3 course menu and answered any questions on the menu. I ordered the soft shell crab to start, roast pork belly as a main and the open sesame for dessert. The starter was two pieces of soft shell crab, cooked perfectly with the right amount of flavouring accompanied by fennel cooked three ways. Very tasty and recommended if you are a fan of soft shell crab. Main was roast pork belly accompanied by Parisian gnocchi and parsnip purée. The pork belly and the sauce it was served in went extremely well with the purée and gnocchi as they balanced out the flavour of the sauce perfectly. Lastly, finished with the orange panna cotta with sesame ice cream. The flavours were intricate and very well layered inside the cake. A great way to finish our meal indeed! Both Sylvie and Karel looked after us extremely well. Service was immaculate and made our visit here at the restaurant a 5 experience! Thanks to the whole team at Le Hobbit for a wonderful meal!

Le Hobbit in Quebec City, is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of this enchanting French-Canadian city. With the spirit of adventure coursing through my veins, I embarked on a culinary journey that transcended time and space, almost reminiscent of Tolkiens Middle-earth, where the unexpected and magical converge. As I stepped into this quaint establishment, I couldnt help but marvel at its intimate ambiance. The rustic charm and warm, earthy tones transported me to a world of elegance, where each corner whispered tales of old Quebec. It was as if I had stumbled upon a hobbits haven, with its cozy nooks and crannies, inviting patrons to escape the bustling city streets. Now, lets talk about the pièce de résistance the food. Le Hobbits menu is a symphony of flavors that danced on my palate like a finely orchestrated composition. The dishes, rooted in French-Canadian tradition with a touch of whimsy, pay homage to the regions culinary heritage. The wild mushroom poutine, adorned with a rich truffle gravy, was a revelation of earthy indulgence. And lets not forget the maple-glazed pork belly, a dish that exemplified the perfect balance between sweet and savory, a true homage to Quebecs iconic maple syrup. The wine list at Le Hobbit is an oenophiles dream, featuring an array of local and international selections that complemented the menu beautifully. The attentive and knowledgeable staff guided me through pairings that elevated my dining experience to new heights. But what truly sets Le Hobbit apart is its commitment to farm-to-table sourcing. The ingredients, fresh and locally sourced, tell a story of the Quebecois terroir, a narrative that resonates with the restaurants dedication to sustainability. As I savored the last morsel of my dessert, a delicate maple sugar tart, I couldnt help but feel a sense of gratitude for stumbling upon this culinary oasis in Quebec City. Le Hobbit captures the essence of both the city and its surroundings, offering a dining experience that is as magical as it is rooted in tradition. Le Hobbit is a gastronomic treat that bridges the realms of fantasy and reality. Its a place where the spirit adventure and the soul of Quebec come together, inviting you to indulge in a culinary journey that will leave you spellbound and craving for more. This, my friends, is a culinary experience worth embarking upon, a testament to the magic that can be found in the most unexpected corners of the world.

We were on vacation in Quebec and we were leaving in the morning for Montreal so what could be better than stopping for brunch? On the recommendation of our friends we went to this bru ch la restaurant and we were not disappointed with the trip. A very kind and welcoming boss, refined and delicious dishes, the only downside is the price. Excessively expensive in relation to the proportion, calculated minimum 50/60$ to leave with a full stomach so on this point it is also expensive see more than a restaurant, if they increased the portions on the plates this restaurant would be at the top of the top I recommend but be careful with your wallet.

The food did not hit the spot. The kitchen there seems to source fresh ingredients and may even know the technique, but the flavours are too bland, lacking in creativity and trying to be too fancy. If I could leave one recommendation - Id say go back to basics and learn to deliver a culinary experience instead of raising prices and pretenting to be what you arent. You can always make more when you have a crowd at your door. We ordered a halibut plate that was minuscule for 38 dollars and wasnt fancy or extraordinary either. It was cooked correctly, but lacked in seasoning. The lobster bisque that was supposed to complement the fish ended up being some watery substance in which canned corn and mustard leaves were seated, serving as a final frontier between the swampy bottom of the plate and the crispy quarter of a halibut steak. Your mom would have cooked you a better halibut and wouldnt skimp on flavour. However, this is the whole story with this place - they are afraid of flavour. The pork chop was a bit bigger than the fish but did not impress either. They may have used a sous-vide, or maybe just marinated it well, so you could taste some herbiness, but this is where the excitement ends. The so-called chimichurri was bland and mixed with tomato sauce. Needless to say that there was no heat to it, no garlic flavour, no flavour at all actually. Finally, the service was very much laissez-faire. The waiter has forgot to ask us about allergies but did ask the table next to us (thankfully we dont have any). They also didnt bring us a dessert menu 10 minutes after we asked. Instead they decided to chit chat with the guests at the bar. I can clearly understand this when the restaurant is full, although of course bringing a menu should be simple enough. However, it wasnt even close to half full, so we were just left alone throughout the evening. We decided to leave at the end. The server was helpful at explaining the menu initially and did ask us about the food once we started. In their defence, my girlfriend liked the food although she does agree on the service being below the standard. Now if you can explain why bland food deserves the prices they set - let me know. Le Hobbit - get your act together or Smaug and hungry visitors will get you closed for good. Vegetarian options: There are at least a few vegetarian dishes like mushroom steak and some plum and cauliflower plate Parking: The street is closed for pedestrians only, so prepare to walk at least 10 mins

I was in such an extravagant establishment for the first time, and they helped me choose what I liked. The young waitress was very attentive and patient, despite the fact that I called her over a hundred times to ask what each dish meant. However, there are a few remarks. 1. The food portion was too large, the meat platter runs out quickly, and then youre not eating delicacies but something unclear made of childrens cereal. 2. The drink was wonderful, not having large chunks of ice is great. 3. In this dessert, there was very little ice cream, I like popcorn but this one was not airy at all, I added a photo of how the popcorn should look - all in caramel and airy.
