Les Sales Gosses in Québec City

The food is really excellent, refined and with fresh ingredients. However, we had a bit of a wait between courses and to receive the bill. Nevertheless I recommend 100%.

Much too expensive for what you have on your plate, very expensive wine, ordinary service.

A few years ago we came to this restaurant to celebrate my best friends birthday, it was great but when we came back for my party, the terrible service, extremely expensive dishes and a bottle of wine that didnt was not worth it, I am deeply disappointed with this evening which should have proved to be a success. If you want to hire non-competent people, go ahead but please dont subject customers to such negligence, I dont recommend this crappy restaurant to anyone and I weigh my words carefully.

Thank you for the attention of the service. However, the quality of the food is not up to par. Having frequented this restaurant on several occasions, I notice a drop in quality which is clearly perceptible.

Amazing ! I was going back a little because of the concept of a composite plate, but ultimately: wooow! We are on another culinary level here! I had the Scotch Eggs, then the lamb, and I loved and savored every micron of these plates. wow wow!

We are on our first visit to Quebec City. Prior to our trip, we did some research on restaurants and Les Sales Grosses had very good reviews. We decided we would dine there one evening during our trip and made a reservation when we arrived in Quebec. On the night of our reservation, we paid for an Uber to the restaurant from the old city. The restaurant was less than half full when we arrived. We were seated, the menu was explained to us and we ordered a bottle of wine. We looked forward to enjoying our wine with 3 or 4 plates from the menu. It started out well, we got our wine but then we sat for about 30 minutes with no wait staff coming to our table to take our food order and it didn t feel like anyone would be coming anytime soon. We tried several times to make eye contact and engage our waitress but she seemed to make a point of not looking at us. We only needed a couple of minutes of the waitress time so we could order our first 2 plates to start but instead she chatted with other tables and cleared dishes from some others, not once looking at us. If she had even acknowledged that she knew it was taking her a while to get to us and let us know she d be with us shortly, we would have understood but she didn t. After sitting for 30 minutes, we felt that our visit to the restaurant couldn t be salvaged because of the poor service we were receiving. We paid for our wine and left. We were very disappointed, as we were really looking forward to an evening of great food and wine at Les Sales Gosses. We re not sure if the waitress couldn t provide good service because they didn t have enough staff working. If that is the case, the management of the restaurant needs to address it, as we didn t appear to be the only table that was dissatisfied with the service we were receiving. I also felt the waitress could have better managed how she spent her time between tables. We ended up down the street where we were served and received our food in less time than we sat at Les Sales Gosses waiting to place our order. It wasn t the dinner or the evening we wanted but we did receive great service at the 2nd restaurant and the food hit the spot, especially given how hungry we were by that time. I can t say enough how disappointing it was that we had to leave after we made a point of reserving and taking an Uber to this restaurant, only to have to leave because of the lack of service. The food we saw looked very good. It s really too bad we weren t able to try any of it.

I have been 3 times. The first two were great. But the last one is really my last. Incredibly bad service. We took the Discovery Menu with 6 courses and wine pairing. We received the first one but after 1h15min of waiting we had to run after the waitress to be served. We didnt get the wine pairing while we saw a few tables that arrived 1 hour after we were served. Even water was difficult to get. The waiters often asked for apologies but nothing changed. In the end, the $200 bill arrived in full. A special evening that turned into a nightmare.

Always excellent cuisine, heartfelt and personalized service. Service times a little too long, however, probably due to a lack of staff. Nothing that cant be corrected or that should prevent you from enjoying it.

Attentive service, excellent food. The beef cheek melted in your mouth and was very tasty. The scallops with blue cheese siphon was a great discovery; delicate and tasty at the same time. Well come back to that.

Heard it reopened and went with the family. Every dish was a hit. Wine selection was great and recommendations from the sommelier were spot on. Alcohol selection is also amazing. Desserts and coffee were perfect as well. Overall, an immaculate dining experience.

I went there last night, it was absolutely perfect! The scotch egg cooked to perfection, the cod and sweetbreads absolutely succulent, the wine delectable. Unparalleled service! The new operators have made some nice, necessary changes and it s a success all round.

I did a roadtrip through Canada 4 years ago and I still occassionally think about the food I had in this restaurant

The night started nice, the menu was appealing and the staff was nice. We ordered the appetizers and the main course. The starters were nice and were just to open the appetite. Cooking time was pretty fast and our dishes were delivered to the table with a nice description. Unfortunately 3/4 , if not all, of the dishes were kind of cold. The quality was nice but I think the waiter and the chief have to be more careful to the food temperature after it comes out of the kitchen. So far so good with this little issue ; atmosphere was nice till a group of people started to yell rather than having a conversation in respect to the others in the room. Their loudness was so intolerable that a couple of young people having dinner close to the group showed a panic face and clearly disapproval. The noise was so annoying that we could not talk anymore and we decided to leave rather than enjoying a desert and coffee. Sorry but it is the duty of the manager and even the staff to be sure that unmannered people keep a civilized level in harmony with the atmosphere of the restaurant. I guess the staff I spoke to before leaving realized the situation and apologized. My suggestion is to ask the staff to keep also an eye on this situation and intervene if necessary. That said I think you have the potential.

Their octopus dish is AMAZING. Absolutely delicious. Ive never had more tender Octopus ever in my life. They also have excellent service The Foie Gras, Aubergine, and Ravioli are forgettable. And as other have stated, its quite loud so avoid group gatherings because youll be struggling to have conversations with others. I could hardly hear my date. Also, as nearby parking can be a bit difficult to find, trying finding parking arrangements sooner.

Wow! What an experience! We went there, my wife and I, last Friday February 12, 2022 around 9 p.m. We were on a little roadtrip and took the chance to ask for a table since we didnt have a reservation. As soon as we arrived, although the restaurant was packed, we were treated with great respect and received a superb welcome from the various members of the staff. After a superb explanation of the menu, and not knowing what to choose, since everything on the menu seems delicious, we let ourselves be tempted by a 4-course discovery food and wine pairing menu. What a delight! Special mention to the selection of cocktails and the houses private imports. Thank you for the wonderful evening! We will come back for sure!

One of the best restaurant/bars you will discover, an excellent menu combined with a great atmosphere. A very warm place where you will be served with the greatest care and with the best products. This is not a recommendation but rather an item to put on your bucket list!!

The menu being very basic, the waiter had no suggestions for people with lactose intolerance. I asked for my steak well done and it was brought to me burnt. I felt looked down upon, there was a lack of customer service. $30 two pieces of charred steak, no thanks!

Les Sales Gosses offers a variety of interesting and innovative small plates intended for sharing. The food is fantastic and theres a good drink menu with a nice variety of beer and wine. We were there on a very busy night and the service was a bit slow (in fact, the kitchen forgot about our food and it took the server a very long time to notice) but it seemed as though they were short staffed, something a lot of restaurants are dealing with right now. Overall it was a lovely meal at a hip restaurant just outside of Old Quebec.

Still amazing. Great service, good cocktails, good wines. The food is exquisite. All dishes are starter to share type so it is possible to taste many things. The sweetbreads are excellent.

This place was so good, even my kids enjoyed it! We ate here our first night in town and it was the right choice! We ordered a bunch of plates to share: marinated olives, warm bread, leeks, mushroom fettuccine, beef tenderloin and scallops. Every single dish was excellent! The cocktails were just as good and the service was great!

Very nice place. We went there for our office Christmas dinner. We chose a tasting option with dishes to share and it was perfect. The cuisine is the perfect balance between gourmet cuisine and comfort food: you taste new flavors and textures, everything is tasty and you have enough to taste it again and come away satisfied! The wine, a privately imported Italian, was particularly good. Everyone had a great time and loved their evening. We will return!

Lovers of bistronomy must go this way. 2021: New concept since covid which disappoints versus the gastro restaurant that we knew. No more discovery menu, no more choice of several main dishes...from now on you have the choice between a fish and a meat main course (if there is any left...), and you will share starters! It s good, even if we also dropped a level compared to before. Overall disappointment for previous customers. Very good service.

Best fried chicken in the world!

Just a little feedback on the 3-course menu and the chicken at La baraque à Frite: just one word WOW you did great. The soup with the topping really adds a nice sasseurs touch. The gravlax was fresh and delicious. The beef was tender and the flavors worked well together. The chicken : WOW the best we ve eaten in a really long time. Tender, crispy and very well seasoned with the homemade BBQ sauce. Thank you for this delight

Extremely expensive for portions that do not even satisfy a childs appetite. Four ravioli for $20, three pieces of chicken for $20 and so on... Very friendly waitress, but who has excellent sales training. I dont recommend this restaurant and not that Im negative, but I wouldnt want people to waste $200 with great regret like the four of us who are bitter about our most disappointing dining experience.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to find a table at this restaurant without a prior reservation right in the middle of construction week in Quebec city! The experience was totally worth it. We enjoyed the food and the wine selection and polished off a full bottle! The servers were very gracious and made us feel right at home, despite the language barrier! We had the Warm Olivers, Le Pain de Francois, Ravioli, Eggplant and finished off with the Tiramisu! Everything was great!

Foie gras au torchon... it spent too much time on the stove and ended up having the same texture as dog meat.. Raviolis were good but nothing more.. Way too much breading on the veal rice, in the end it tasted like fried chicken... Disappointing in the end especially for the price paid

It was very noisy, so if you plan a party for two, pay attention who is already inside. No menu in English. However, staff was very accomodating translating and explaining the menu. Main course was a selection of two choices - steak or shrimps&scallops. Big selection of starters though.

Incredible welcome! Short story but due to a concern for space in the restaurant beyond the control of the restaurant owner despite a reservation, the owner took care of us personally to make our evening magnificent. Relaxed atmosphere, courteous service, the dishes are good and their soups are rich but divine. The lunch menu is varied and there is something for all tastes: vegetarian, tartars, fish, etc.

Excellent food. Original combinations of perfumes and flavors, but which work very well. Simple, but effective decor. Bird warning during the day: dark in the evening. Only downside: I found the top 40 style music too loud and not suited to the type of place. I will go back.

No distancing between tables. Tables should be oriented so that they are back to back. Really disappointed. However, this restaurant was my favorite before the pandemic.
