Restaurant Melba in Québec City

The reception was very cold enough to leave the restaurant immediately. The person who greeted us unlocked the door, he didnt look at us, he turned around and left without a word. Fortunately the person at reception did not provide service. On the other hand, the food was excellent and the waitress very professional and courteous.

The service is excellent and the decoration magnificent. The menu lacks a bit of depth, a lot of effort in presentation rather than substance. Some of the dishes are so salty that it was almost impossible to eat them, especially the ravioli and cod. A restaurant that delights the eyes, but disappoints in the mouth... The hors doeuvre style starters were, however, delicious.

We had the opportunity to taste almost the entire menu which the five of us shared. The restaurant s tranquil ambiance and attentive service greatly contributed to our enjoyable experience. Among the starters, the PFK quail legs were my favorite, perfectly accompanied by crème fraîche and chives. The tomatoes with fresh cheese and elderflower accompanied by Provençal focaccia were also excellent. As for the Dauphiné ravioli with pistou, garnished with chard and walnuts, they pleasantly surprised me. At first I wasnt convinced, but from the first bite I discovered a deliciously flavorful interior. The beef tartare, however, disappointed me a bit. Although the texture was successful, the strong taste of the mushrooms and creamed corn took over, masking that of the meat. As for desserts, the trio offered was a real delight. The rice pudding, accompanied by olive oil ice cream, was particularly original and tasty. The giant chocolate macaroon was equally successful, and the calvados baba, served with caramelized apples, proved to be an excellent conclusion to this meal. In summary, we had a great time at the Melva restaurant, between the quality of the dishes and the warm welcome from the team. An address that I recommend for a friendly and gourmet meal!

The service was impeccable, the servers...wow! and the food very good,, good value for money, but the overall experience was disappointing. In this small restaurant, a table of 14-16 people, in the middle of a business meeting with computers and taking notes, was set up right next to us (my father, my sister and me). The noise was so loud that we couldnt hear each other speak. Added to this was really loud pop music, which only made the atmosphere worse. We had to content ourselves with enjoying the food, without being able to enjoy a moment of exchange, although it was important to us, in a context where we simply wanted to get together and chat after a difficult period, the death of my mother. For a restaurant of this size, hosting such business meetings is not appropriate, in my opinion. The experience was overall very good in terms of service and taste, but I hesitate to return there in such conditions. My friend who recommended the restaurant to me also told me that she couldnt hear herself talking with her lover because of the loud music and a group next to them. That said, I would be willing to give them a second chance....

Unmissable restaurant in Quebec City, little cousin of Battuto, but nothing at all to envy it. Super original and perfectly executed dishes. Great wine list with a nice selection of wines by the glass and some cocktails that stand out! Relaxed atmosphere and not too crowded on each other. Parking: (Dated September 2024) Given the major repair work on St-Vallier Street, it is more difficult to find a parking space.

It was DELICIOUS! I havent eaten well like that in a very long time. Delicate and tasty. There were 3 of us and we decided to share everything. Honestly everything was good. As a starter, the scallop skewers (special mention to the coriander sauce that we wanted to finish with our fingers) and the mimosa egg with lobster. As main dishes we opted for the three hot options:; the cane with cherry sauce (a favorite that I didnt expect), the arctic char (cooking and perfect pairings) and the dauphiné ravioli (less impressed by the pasta but still excellent). For dessert, peach melba, strawberry clafouti and the chocolate option... we would have eaten it again and again! Oh and the little butt bun can be eaten by itself! Really good homemade bread. A first but certainly not a last. Warm atmosphere and excellent service. THANKS!

Falling for something!

It was excellent! As much the dishes as the service and the atmosphere! The gin, cucumber and mint cocktail was very fresh. Big favorite for Gaspésie halibut, grilled cucumbers, coriander and pil-pil sauce!

Stunning place. Very beautiful. Impeccable service. Great and large wine list. The dishes were seasonal, fresh, a little simple a little technical. A truly refreshing place, especially in Quebec City where the service is generally unprofessional in its approach, too friendly. We give it 4 stars because, despite the creativity in the shared dishes, half of them simply did not appeal to us. There was a lack of cohesion and sometimes they were unbalanced. We will definitely return and give another chance !

We were eager to discover the culinary offerings of this restaurant due to the patronage of chef Guillaume St-Pierre (officiating at Battuto which we had the chance to discover two years ago). The wait will not have been disappointed... obviously, we will not make a comparison with the Battuto because the concept of the Melba is totally different. We were able to appreciate the care taken in the presentation of the dishes to share. Because the originality lies in this sharing of starters and main dishes. We love this ability to dig into the dish and share the taste discovery in synchrony. We therefore opted for three choices of starters and three main courses. Our favorites were the mussels and their crunchy vegetables as well as the radishes decorated with a delicious salmon mousse covered with a cloud of sorrel: an explosion of flavors and textures! For main courses, the fiddleheads with whipped feta, pistachio and mint delighted our taste buds! Of course, perfection is not of this world, two small drawbacks have altered the experience. First of all, the marinated halibut, cucumber, coriander and pil-pil (a kind of bulgur) turned out to be tasteless and gave off a strong smell of fish and very little coriander... Finally, the beef tartare accompanied by soubressade mixed with eggplant puree completely missed its target despite a perfect cut of meat. The flavors just weren t there! Damage. Nevertheless, we had a wonderful evening of taste and I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant which presents an original menu in Quebec. Lovers of subtle flavors will be welcome there!

Everything was sublime: the service, the wines, the atmosphere... I really fell in love with the dish of guinea fowl with morels and the chocolate praline mousse, one of the best desserts I have eaten in my life!

We tasted 7 dishes (3 bites, 3 sharing dishes and 1 dessert) and they were all more delicious than the last. We loved this restaurant in every way, a huge favorite for us. Already looking forward to going back! :)

This restaurant is a gem. The food is spectacular, the flavors, the execution, everything is spot on. I went there twice already, the menu had changed and both times it was an exquisite experience. The elevated quality of the service makes the night even more ejoyable. The bar area has 4 stools and is very cozy, its the perfect seat in the place to be entertained by the cocktail making and have a sneak peak in the kitchen. Its a great size restaurant with a beautiful desing, a must try! Dietary restrictions: We were asked if we had any when our order was taken.

Definitely in my top 3 restaurants in Quebec! The kitchen team prepared an entirely vegan multi-course meal (I had called in advance). It was delicious and original. The service is friendly and exceptional. Prices are reasonable. Vegetarian options: Call ahead. Possibility of making veggie or vegan options.

EXCELLENT restaurant Everything was on point as they say. We tasted the deviled eggs, the Kentucky fried chicken style beans (a real favorite), the panisse fries, the butt roll, the scallops and the ravioli. For dessert, peach Melba and chocolate mousse. I highly recommend Open Monday to Friday evening.

The general atmosphere of the restaurant is pleasant, very good music and beautiful decor and the servers are attentive, give good advice and are very kind. We will come back with pleasure!

What a gastronomic experience!

We learned about this place through a recommendation by someone at a local cafe shop and this place is an absolute show stopper in all the best ways. Everything was absolutely delicious and well balanced - and the service was beyond excellent. Was only able to take a picture of the duck because we couldnt wait to dive into the other dishes. We got the duck skewers, the scallops, the mimosa eggs with bluefin tuna, and poached pears, and every single dish was complex in flavor and were phenomenal from the presentation of the dishes to the flavors. Definitely will come again when I next visit Quebec!

One of my favorite places in Quebec! Everything is really well executed: the dishes are beautifully presented, perfectly seasoned, the service is impeccable. Its worth the detour, especially since the menu changes with the seasons and culinary inspirations, so youre sure to discover different dishes each time you visit.

My wife and I shared Leek Vichyssoise, Squash Ravioli with hazelnuts, and Bostock with prunes. It was one of the best meals Ive ever had since Joes in Venice Beach closed. The right mix of creative, fresh, beautiful and tasty! Highly recommend!

They explain the menus to us well. Advise us professionally on wine pairings. Dietary restrictions: It adjusts to dietary restrictions. Parking: Easy to find on the street if you are past 6 p.m.

We visited for the first time in late November, and Melba is now our new favorite restaurant. From the moment walking in, it is so clear that the owner put so much thought into every aspect of this space. The design is so thoughtful. The seating is so comfortable (both the banquette and the chairs). The colors and the lighting so beautiful. I love the scale of the space. It is intimate while also offering enough space for privacy. The music at just the right level, and the playlist just right. I loved the terrazo floor as well. I didnt get a chance to try to padded stool seating at the counters, but they looked very comfortable as well. The service was excellent. Our server was really helpful in guiding us through our choices, preventing us from ordering too many or too few dishes. Each item was outstanding and beautifully presented. We each had a cocktail, and wines by the glass, and we were very happy with our choices. If you are looking for a more personal experience in a neighborhood setting, it is worth the excursion. We walked from the lower town in about 40 minutes, in the bitter cold, and found it completely reasonable. We hope to return soon. Such a great addition to the excellent dining scene in the city!

Wow brand new fresh. The brother of Battuto, and its up to par. The service was impeccable all evening. The 4 of us were able to taste almost the entire menu, it was shared well. Favorite for the dauphine potatoes, scallops and char steak. The cocktails were good, and the Noctem beer was delicious!! Great location in Saint-Sauveur and the decor was really beautiful. And for the type of restaurant, the price was really reasonable.

Definitely pleasant experience, especially considering they have only been open for two weeks. The dishes were all very well executed and balanced. I particularly recommend the poultry quenelle, the endive salad and the reinvented deviled eggs. The char, however, disappointed me a little. The premises designed by Apparel architecture are magnificent and create a warm and intimate atmosphere. The service was friendly and accommodating. I will definitely return.

Private import for wine and a very varied menu adjusting with the seasons. It is with the greatest haste that I will definitely return!

Very, very very very expensive, for an ultimately passable meal. We really didnt understand the hype surrounding this restaurant. The waiter was talking right over our food, which is disturbing, but it must be said that this restaurant is so noisy!! Then, eating on fast-food booths on an office table, not very elegant... We left there frankly disappointed, and we went to eat elsewhere as we were still hungry. Never again for us, and we do not recommend.

A delight! We love the Battuto and we loved the Melba just as much. I didnt know that much about the French classics, but now I know them AND love them. We will return there for sure!
