3301 50 Ave, Red Deer, AB T4N 3Y2, Canada
Casual establishment serving familiar Chinese eats, with lunch specials, dim sum & hot pot meals.
Simply the best Chinese food in Central Alberta. Massive menu filled with awesome selections of meals. The value is also great. You will have leftovers!
Delivery Service is outstanding early in the evening. Food is not very good though. Chicken chowmein, not fully cooked noodles. Orange beef is floury tasting. Deep fried garlic ribs are over cooked and powdery.
The staff is amazing. Mary takes great care of her customers. This is by far the best war Wong tong soup I ever had . I like it spicy and the kitchen staff hit a home run . I will definitely be back for them tasty spring rolls and spicy War Wong tong soup . Thank you again
We had guests so we ordered a family meal for delivery. It arrived 1 hour and 18 minutes after they said it would be at the latest. Everything breaded had barely any meat which I realize might be the method for this style of food but when you have a breaded ball the size of a baseball and the meat in the center is the size of a marble that's not value. In the stir fry broccoli thing there was literally enough beef for one person, how are these things supposed to feed 6 people? The 2 ladies who ate the shrimp got sick in the night. This was completely disappointing.
All of the dishes lacked sauce/flavour. The ginger beef, chicken chop suey and chow mein all had little to no taste. The chicken fried rice was good until we found a bunch of egg shell in it.
1/10. Reccommend to serve to your enemies as it will not kill them, just ruin their day. Delivery straight from restaurant. I got food as it's been a long week for the wife. They didn't ring the doorbell or knock so my (now) cold dinner was found on my doorstep after I wrestled my children through the bath. The ginger beef was cooked so long and hard it was shrapnel with no discernable meat left, chop suey was slimy and tasted slightly off. The dumplings and rice were the only (halfway) decent thing served, after i had to reheat them of course. Don't eat here.
Save your money and do not go here. I ordered the sweet and sour pork and the sesame chicken. Both were mostly breaded with a limited amount of chicken. After removing all the breading, the actual amount of pork and chicken that was left was approximately 1/4 of the actual container. If this is done on purpose to increase profits, this is very unacceptable, and your business will be doomed as your repeat customers will be minimal at best. In the photo, the left side is all breading for the sweet and sour pork. The right is the meat left over. I do hope you can reevaluate your processes to produce a better product moving forward. Maybe give the real product and increase your prices? Anyway, I hope you take this review to heart. As you know, most people do not write reviews. Take care
The restaurant is clean & our server was amazing. I came around 1pm and it was kinda empty and quiet. I was abit hesitant at first and didn't expect much. I had dim sum on my mind and it's been awhile. The wait was abit longer then expected but it was definitely worth it! The dimsum was fresh, crispy and moist in all the right places and I was just shocked! It was SO GOOD! I ordered congee and to my surprise it was good as well. But this is where I fell in love. I ordered the fried taro dumplings. These crispy coated taro dumplings have a moist delicious filled center with minced meat now this dish is my favorite but far and few places would even add them to thier menu and they nailed it. The price is abit pricey but It was good. I had a really good experience here for dim sum.
I was calling to order siomai and chicken feet today Dec 20 at 12:20 PM and the ill-mannered person on the other line immediately said, Im busy so you have to order right away, I feel sad for the owner paying someone who has no passion for customer service and feel pity for that person, you are a reflection of a very tired and non-interesting human being. Hope you feel that you exist so that business and the environment you are in will not be infected by an unfortunate person like you.
I love the red star! My friend recommended me this RESTAURAUNT and I DO NOT regret it
Great food and atmosphere
Delicious
very good food
Vegetarian options: Plenty of options Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating Parking: Can be a little tight for big trucks Kid-friendliness: They can provide highchairs Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible not no automatic doors so may need assistance
Edit: prices have gone way up here over the years. The food is still good but Ive had a few poor experiences lately where Ive just been delivered the wrong thing and they werent any help when I called in about it. Told me that what I ordered is what I got even though Ive been ordering it for like 8 years. Old post: Been eating here for years and never been disappointed. The Thai style kway teow is my favorite.
I took my Mom there last night for dinner (she paid). I like Dim Sum and havent found a good place locally. UNTIL NOW! We had Wor Wonton Soup (small size and shared it), Siu Mai (in house made), the Korean Style Beef Ribs (spicy/excellent), and the shimp/snow pea tips dumplings (perfect)! It was affordable, fast, and we really enjoyed it. We both highly recommend Red Star Chinese Retaurant. I thought about going back today :-)
AURAAAAAAA
The atmosphere is not applicable - we ordered delivery. I asked for no MSG and that our delivery be direct resulting in steaming hot dinner. Voila - they delivered in spades and did not disappoint. Thanks Mary.
Mary is very pleasant and friendly. Good service and the food is good.
The only place we order from, never have a bad experience with them.
Just got our hot and fresh order from Skip. Very impressed with our haul for the price. Bbq pork buns are my fave for sure! Szechuan prawns are a hit also
Vegetarian options: Salt & Pepper Tofo...super yum yum..
Used to be really good but definitely no longer good
Appreciate you for accommodating my high end needs. My mother and spouse got into a bad collision and ended up in the hospital. I live in saskatoon the restaurant still contacted me directly to replace on the vegetables they didnt have. Honestly best service ever because no one can tell what gai lon and broccoli is lol.. Encore Thank you for utmost service!!!
Over priced, almost 75.00 for four dishes! Chow mein wasnt very good, the other dishes werent bad.
Terrible restaurant. The food was luke warm, food given to another table. No discount on bill. Never coming back here!
First time trying this wonderful restaurant. The front end staff was terrific. Food was one of the best Chinese food since we moved to Red Deer.
Had tofu vegetable dish and beef pineapple vegetable satay. Tofu was soggy. The other dis was not satay and not very good ...sorry to say.
Very good food Very good service. Our server Amy was very nice, always filled water and made sure food was good. Food : 5/5
Nothing special about the interior (like most good Chinese food places), but so worth it for the food. It is now our go-to place for Shanghai noodles, fried salt and chili squid, and has the best ginger chicken we have had. Be warned the Mongolian beef is spicy to an extreme! To date we have not had a single meal we have been unhappy with.
Delicious beef & broccoli. Cant wait to try the chicken & black bean sauce next.
We were in town for a convention and were a little hesitant to try this restaurant because of the reviews. We are from Calgary and eat Chinese fairly regularly when we go out. I can t speak for the meat dishes as we re vegetarian, but the vegetarian dishes were excellent, extremely tasty. I can t remember the last time we had such good Chinese food in Calgary . My only complaint is that they were a little light on the ho fan noodles, but otherwise, it was great Vegetarian options: They have a small vegetarian section, with mainly vegetables and tofu, but the food is very tasty. They were happy to make the ho fan noodles vegetarian for us. On the dim sum menu, most vegetarian items are fried, but they did have a delicious rice crepe stuffed with baby bok choy.
This is the best place for Chinese in Red Deer. Nothing is really close. Very high quality meat in the beef and chicken and the fried rice is top notch.
I called to order food for take out for only 4 dishes. They said it will take about 25mins to be ready for pickup. Be there 30mins after I hung up the phone. The food are not ready and I have to wait for another 60mins for my order. Food
We were looking for some good Chinese food and being new to red deer I started looking at reviews. When I came across this little gem, I was very pleased. First of all we phoned in our order and it was taken from a very happy and helpful lady even sharing her favorite dish with us(it was a spicy shrimp dish)can t remember the name. Anyway the best Chinese food I ve had and my family agrees. If you want to know that dish ask Mary the beautiful young lady that helped us out.
This was a not a very good experience. From the moment I sat down and it took waitress almost 20 minutes to come and give me water let alone a menu, I should have known what it was going to be like. The service was almost non existent. When my food finally came which took forever (which is understandable, they were somewhat busy) my ginger beef was cold, and my rice was Luke warm at best. Only the chop suey was hot. Do you think the waitress would come over after a few minutes to check and see how my food was? Of course not. Pretty much worst service Ive had in a long time at a restaurant. And after waiting a little over an hour for food I would hope for.it to be so.ewhat fresh and warm not cold.
Had an excellent mother day dinner with the family here recently. The service was good and the food was excellent. This is our go to spot for Chinese food in Red Deer.
I dont recall ever writing a review for any restaurant Ive visited before, but this place was so good that it prompted me to write one. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing, the food is delicious and served in generous portions, and Mary, a beautiful lady, was so welcoming and helped me choose from the menu. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely return.
Just ordered through Uber eats the chow mein had NO noodles and the chop suey was chicken and bean sprouts, the egg rolls strongly suggest wing wong brand spring rolls (cheap at Walmart) and the rice was under done! I called the store, the man argued with me as to what I got and when I offered to send pics he said he doesn t need them, that s their style of Chinese food it s a 0 star for me what a waste of money! I will NEVER order from there again!
Food is fine, service is bad. Communication is an issue and their delivery service cant find addresses. Go somewhere else.
Don t know who was in the kitchen tonight but he is a master . Food was absolutely delicious on all counts plenty, hot, fresh , and sooo flavourful an absolute pleasure to experience.
Excellent service. Food was fresh and flavorful.
Food was outstanding, super delicious, fresh tasting, came out very quickly after we ordered. The shrimp even had a sweetness to it, so delicious, will definitely be coming back again. Best Shanghai noodle, turnip cake and jasmine tea Ive had in a while. Vegetarian options: Saw many options for vegetarian, as well as options for substitutions. Parking: Many spots very close to the entrance, super easy for parking Kid-friendliness: Great big tables and booths, great for kids
Dining at this Chinese restaurant was an unforgettable culinary journey, especially their dim sum selection. Each piece was a testament to the artistry of Cantonese cuisine, from the steamed dumplings to the siu mai, each bite was a perfect homage to tradition. The shrimp dumplings deserve a special mention - with their translucent skins and succulent filling, they were a true delight. The barbecue pork buns were another highlight, offering a harmonious blend of sweet and savory that was utterly satisfying. The service at the restaurant was impeccable as well, with each staff member demonstrating professionalism and warmth, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Overall, the dim sum at this establishment is a rare treat for aficionados of Chinese cuisine, and I highly recommend it to anyone with a penchant for gourmet experiences.
Atmosphere isnt the best but the food is always good with big portions and is very fast Vegetarian options: Tofu and fried rice with veggies are consistently good
Weve ordered from Red Star many times and really enjoyed it but when we tried to order last night we couldnt. They said we were out of the catchment delivery area but we never were before and we are only 7 blocks away. We had to order elsewhere. Has something changed? 4512 55 stree
We had dim sum two days in a row here....it was sooo good. The portions were very nice size. My favorite it the black sesame seed balls. I just could not get enough

Special fried rice tasted like it has been made a week before I ordered it
Guilty pleasure Stop by when I have a little extra Food
I won t be back to this restaurant.
I would like to disagree with most of the reviews I have read, this is by far the best Chinese food I have ever had. Be brave and deviate from ginger beef, chicken balls etc and try some random dishes off the menu. The food wash fresh, tasty, zangy and down right noteworthy. Take my word, get off the regular order and try some dishes because this rated the best Chinese take out Ive had anywhere in Alberta. By far.
Told food would be ready in 45 minutes. Took almost 2 hours. When I got home the dry garlic ribs had 90% batter on the bone with a little fat and nearly no meat on any of the ribs. I was told Red Star was one of the better places to go and that prices were higher but food was worth it. Those ribs were absolutely disgusting. The rest of the food was mediocre at best. People don t waste your time. This place just gives me another reason to keep cooking at home.
Very disappointing customer service. The food was fine, the service terrible. My husband was recently dealt a devastating health diagnosis. Our daughter and her family surprised us by coming last minute on Christmas Eve morning from out of province. My son, who also lives out of province but could not come, surprised us with an offer to pay for Chinese food so I didnt have to cook. It was wonderful. My daughter placed the order around 4:30 p.m. She placed it online and spoke with an employee who called a few minutes later to follow up. We knew since it was Christmas Eve, that they would be busy and it could take awhile. We just didnt image it would take over 3 hours and my daughter calling 2 times to see where our food was. By the time it arrived, my poor health compromised husband, could hardly eat. We received no discount, no apology, nothing. Despite that, my daughter did offer a generous tip to the driver, as we were not sure where the problem originated or who was responsible. I think perhaps the kitchen was the problem, but who knows as they never even acknowledged there was a problem. It was shortly after the second phone call that we finally got our food. I have never ordered from there before, and never will again.
My family and i visit Red Star multiple times a year. Excpecially around birthdays or special events. Sunny the owner is unreal pleasant to deal with! Mary has been a server for approximatley half a year shes always there to help you when you need or even just to make you laugh. I would hightly reccommend to anyone best chinese food in town. Chelsey Edwards
Went for Christmas day Chinese food! Yes, it was busy with many takeout orders and in house guests but our server apologized multiple times for the delay. She made sure we got our appetizers right away, re-filled our tea (loose leaf jasmine tea, so lovely), and our waters regularly. When the food arrived, WOW! So delicious, warm and flavourful. Very high quality with an authentic look and taste. The salty squid was real pieces of cut squid, not the tubules you see at most Chinese food restaurants. Very impressed and satisfied, mouth is watering... will go back again! Parking: Lots of stalls and free! Kid-friendliness: Plenty of room for slipping in a high chair at the big round tables.
Giant delicious portions of Chinese food. Been coming here for 10 years and it s always been like that
We usually go there to eat. For five of us it came to $100. The food was horrible soggy ginger fried beef. It has gone down hill.
Best chines in Red Deer! Been this restaurant for many many years and always great with everything.
A bit greasy but the portions were generous. Too much sodium in some of the dishes
Very nice establishment!!!
Very valid. Ginger beef is fire Vegetarian options: The broccoli is so good
Great service and amazing food
great food would go again definitely recommmended
Very nice and great food
Went in, wrote down order and went to the bathroom. When I got out my table was taken and they threw my order out
Good food but they changed take out packaging which has resulted in smaller portions..sneaky
I am a foodie from Vancouver BC, heart of all good places to eat. When I tried this place, I wasnt expecting much but couldnt break my craving for dim sum and since its snowing, I dont wanna make the drive to Calgary or Edmonton.. To my amazement, this place was just as good as any other dim sum place in vancouver/richmond. The dumplings were packed full of shrimp/meat.. the rice rolls were silky soft and the flavors were perfect.. Would be nice to hand out chopsticks esp since im asian but im sure other customers would like the option for chopsticks. The ho fan noodle dish needed more flavor but otherwise rated 6 out of 10. All dim sum dishes I tried were about 8.5/9 out of 10. Loved the fresh fish roe and tripe was very tasty. Tea was on par. The menu could also use some Chinese description. The decor and organization in the restaurant could use some cleaning up and some background music would be nice. Glad and grateful this restaurant is here though. Thanks for the wonderful service and food! Will be coming back :)
Not very happy with the portions very small. Not very good. Never get my food there again.
We had ordered here a few months ago and it wasnt too bad. This time it was horrible. Sweet and Sour Pork we couldnt chew it or cut it with a knife. Sesame Chicken also was very tough to chew. Prawns with mixed veggies, what a joke, the veggies were undercooked Broccoli and Celery and there were maybe 10 prawns. The special Chow Mein, Im not sure what was so Special about it. The noodles stuck together like glue and the rest was All broccoli. Chicken Fried Rice was crunchy. Dry Garlic Ribs, those werent Ribs, they were pieces of pork chop bone or something else, but they were definately NOT ribs and mostly fat!!! For a $120.00 order the 4 fortune cookies was all that was edible.
Worst Chinese I ve ever had. Chowmein noodles were overcooked! Chop suey was all bean sprouts and chicken tasted fake or chicken substitute. Over priced for the bland amateur cooking quality. The only redeeming value is the portion sizes, but why get more when it tastes sooo meh?
Very good food
Made a delivery order online, restaurant called and confirmed the order. We waited for 2 hours then called and were told our order was on its way. Half an hour later, called again and the order was missing. Obviously it s a business that isn t ran properly and shouldn t be offering delivery if they can t provide the service.
Excellence in food
Place isnt clean, waited too long for food, food came out cold so she microwaved it and sent it back to us. We werent happy again as it was just dry now from the microwaving. Asked for the manager and Iguess she was the one who waited on our table. Shes blond, very poor professional demeanor, dresses inappropriate in my opinion and over heard her talking poorly about the other staff to other customers. Who does that? If I wanted dinner and drama, Id go see a movie or stay at home! Zero stars. Dont go. Too expensive and its not worth it. Vegetarian options: Using Oyster sauce in veggies isnt vegetarian Kid-friendliness: No proper plastic cups for babies or toddlers
Quality food. Reliable and delicious. When you need fresh shrimp rolls at 9 pm!
Low quality. No effort for just wonton soup. How can you that up?
Update. Bathroom seems a bit cleaner but still not pleasant. Service better but still very slow. Seem to use a bit lower quality ingredients. If you are hungry, edible but not somewhere where you would take someone to impress. --- Some of the dishes are fairly good, but they could use some fresher ingredients (like veggies and condiments). I think a lot of MSG is used too. The service has been variable but the service on the last visit was pretty bad. Snappy, slamming the glass down on the table, etc. as if she didnt want customers. Even asking for a menu seemed offensive to her. Food 3-4 stars, service 2 stars, bathroom cleanliness 1-2 stars.
I love u victor
My go to place for hot and sour soup for take out.
Very good meal! It was busy with 2 big parties. Food came out quick and hot. Service was good
My husband and I had the dinner for two and 2 orders of Dim Sum. The Dim sum was really awesome. We had the deep fried shrimp dumplings and the steamed dumplings with shrimp in the middle. The ginger beef was the best I have ever had. The chicken chow mein was so delicious, I ate too much. You could tell all the ingredients were fresh. My one daughter, had the Shanghai noodle with beef, which I have never liked Shanghai noodles before until I tried this dish. The noodles , meat, and vegetables were cooked to perfection. My other daughter had deep fried shrimp which was delicious as well. The staff were very friendly and polite. I really liked the atmosphere here. I loved sitting in the booths. I am definitely coming back here. This is my new favourite restaurant. Also, I noticed a lot of take out orders.
I dont even like chinese food but damn this good
Food was amazing. I absolutely recommend.
One dish out of four was edible. Waitress admitted they are not preparing food in house.
Chinese food is delicious
If you like to pay 20$ for a bowl of broth, this is your place. Names rather ironic.
Today we are at about 12:50pm just go there eating.
Aweful! dinner for 6 was brutal. Chicken balls were completely uneatable as was pretty much everything else. Never again.
Food is great
This is the best food and restaurant when you stop over to Red Deer highly recommended.
Some of the best Chinese food Ive ever had! Not greasy, not salty, etc. Highly recommend!
Best Chinese Food in Red Deer....
Over priced dim sum, our food lacked flavour, but it wasnt terrible either. Personally wouldnt go again, its sub par Asian food. Our waitress was really kind and friendly, but didnt have good service.
Great food, good options, and friendly staff. They keep the place very tidy and neat. Always enjoy going there on special occasions.
Red Star has amazing and fresh Chinese food. The lemon chicken is made perfect with just the right amount of breading that is a flaky and crispy. The egg rolls are smaller than other places which I really like and were crispy. Highly recommend this place.
Sadly I wont be back to this restaurant. It took 2 hours to receive our lunch, 15 to 20 minutes between dishes. Three of 4 dishes were ok, one was unrecognizable. They either need more cooks , more waiters or groceries. Very disappointing experience at a restaurant that I used to like.
I always get a meal for as my wife and I are senior. The order is so big and generous that its enough for both of us. The food is excellent and tasty. Thats my restaurant for chinese food now. I have ordered there quite a few times now and finally got around to writing a review,
The service was top notch! Mary was so lovely and prompt! The food was absolutely delicious! Thank you
Great dim sum and fried rice!
DO NOT ORDER TAKEOUT. I placed an order for takeout for an estimated delivery in one hour. I called after an hour and a half, and they had trouble even finding my order. They said they were going to get on it right away. I waited another hour before calling again, and they couldnt find my order in the kitchen so they figured it was out for delivery. I called back after another half hour, and they still had not even started to prepare my order.
Food was good. Wait staff were great. Sad that i forget u cant drink at christmas.
I was excited to have gluten free Chinese as it says on their menu they have GF options but when I called they said they did not have any :(
My husband and I took the time out to search out a good Chinese restaurant, we had been travelling all day. I ordered a dinner for 1 and upgraded from chop suey to chow me in My husband ordered the second dinner for 1 I also ordered chicken wings as a starter As soon as the chicken wings came out, I could see that something was not right they were terrible. I m not sure what the flavour was but it even smelled bad. We sent them back, the waitress was very kind and very polite. She came and asked if maybe they could put teriyaki sauce on them and we said no, we wouldn t be eating them at all. She brought out our meals and I could not eat anything, I ve never had chow mein that is crunchy, turned me off, I tasted the white rice but it too had an unfamiliar odour I was turned off my meal completely we said we d pay for it but I wasn t eating it, again, very kind, asked if I d like a take out box to which I replied, no thank you. My husband ate the chicken on his plate, and ate my sesame chicken against my wishes but he was hungry. He tried his chicken fried rice and said it tasted burnt? He didn t touch his chop suey because he said he d never had chop suey like that before. Our waitress was very nice she didn t charge us for the chicken wings but it s a shame we paid $35 for a meal we could not eat. If ever travelling through Red Deer again I would not eat here or recommend it.
The Shanghai Noodles are amazing. Big fan of the ginger beef and the chicken Balls and several other dishes. But I cant not order the Shanghai noodles
Somehow messed up wonton soup
Food here is always delicious, helpings are more than adequate.
My favorite Chinese food restaurant. Never any issues. Food is always good.
Here the lady took my order at 7:45 pm for 12 pcs of siomai. She came to me 8:20 pm saying there is a problem in the stove and additional 15 mins is needed. she can return my money if I can t wait that long. Seriously!? Is this the right customer service approach??? It is their fault and still have the courage to yell?? Not even a single apology because of poor customer service??? Anyhow, while i wait for another 15 mins, i took pictures of how untidy this restaurant.
Best dim sum in Red Deer
Food - especially the ginger beef - is of the highest quality. Generous portions at a great price. Try them - you will be pleasantly surprised.
Best Chinese food in Red Deer.
I ordered delivery last night. Maybe in house dining is better, however my experience was very disappointing. I ordered sweet and sour chicken balls, beef fried rice, chicken with orange sauce and the steamed pork bun dim sum. Although the delivery time was quite quick only took around 30 minutes compared to the hour the said it would take, it was the food that was far from par. The Beef fried rice was good, it was cooked well and moist enough. How ever the container they give it to you in is the size of a small soup bowl. Which i found a little annoying as it was $13. But size aside the rice tasted good. The chicken balls were one of the worst two items. They must have had left over chicken balls and thought they cooked just cook them a little more to make them seem fresh. Otherwise they clearly just didnt care and let them cook to the point of rock hardness. I had difficulty merely sinking a metal fork into the chicken ball to cut in half it was so hard. As well they had a dark brown outer colour instead of light gold colour. Which led to my assumption of refrying or merely just over cooking the hell out of them. As for size and price Im not sure what other Chinese food places give you, but I received 12 chicken rocks (balls) for $15. So do with that information what you will. The steamed pork buns were the other item embarrassingly sad. Steamed is the first word in the name of the item, it tasted like they were left on a counter in open air for 3 days. The outside had a rough hard layer built up on the outside. The bun was chewy and rubber like, with an almost non existent filling. Fortunately enough I only paid $6 for 3 of them so it couldve been far more disappointing in a larger quantity. The orange chicken was decent, it seemed to be cooked well. Once again my only issue with it was portion size. You get a very small container at the cost of $15. In conclusion, the taste of your food was okay for the items that werent overcooked or dry and old. However, in a cost, taste and size comparison. This restaurant cant compete with the rest of red deers restaurants. Even a place like Phoenix buffet, their food costs the same as Red Stars. However Phoenix Buffet gives you larger containers and 2 containers of the same item, for the same price.
AVOID AVOID AVOID DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE!! I ordered takeout through uber eats, which was delivered to my doorstep (by their driver) no knock heard or PHONE CALL even letting me know it was delivered so youd guess my food got cold. My two chow mein meals were both completely unedible One just completely uncooked and raw, the noodles were basically snapping off. And the other one completely burnt and black also containing snapping noodles.None of the special instruction were followd at all. I had picture proof of EVERYTHING AS WELL OF PROOF OF IT IN MY GARBADGE only for the owner to yell at me LIE and tell me thats just how they made it and there was nothing they could do but to come back and reorder (typical) Also tried telling me i ate my food when i have PICTURE PROOF AND IT IS THE OPPOSITE OF FRESH. I promise you this stuff is not fresh, the noodles were basically morphed into the package and you can tell it had been in there for awhile(sitting on a shelf). Did not help they did nothing but tell me to come back to the restaurant, i dont have the time for that as it way all the way on the other end from where i live hence why i got delivery and wanted my refund. Completely unedible and horrible unprofessional managment that only care about whats in your pocket!!!!!!! 40 bucks down the drain, seems they only ever try when its convenient for the restaurant which explains the few amount of okay reviews. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID They WILL LIE to keep the buisness and get paid
Poor customer service. Person taking our order made a mistake, denied it, and owners decided not to resolve the issue.
Ordered takeout, dinner for six. Food was very good. One of our favorite restaurants. Thanks Red Star!
Do not order from this restaurant The worst experience I ever had in my entire life. I placed an order at 9:30pm. And it supposed to be delivered by 11:00 pm . Yes, 1 and half hours late but what ? After waiting 1 and half hours they said - they can t make it happen due to some issues.. are u kidding bro !!! Is that how you run a business and serve your customers!!!! Get a life first then run business
First time there, well definitely be back!
1/2 size portions not impressed
Dishes that we picked up were horrible! Food was soggy overcooked and, must have sat in a warming tray for at least a couple of hours, and oversalted as well
We went in the early in the afternoon. It was nice and quiet. The food was prepared quickly and had quite large, tasty portions. Vegetarian options: Various vegetarian and tofu items Dietary restrictions: The menu says to mention dietary restrictions when ordering. Wheelchair accessibility: First floor. No stairs.
Stay away....bad food bad service..long wait...
Owner and staff are very friendly, wonderful food!
Ordered the Chicken Fried rice and Chicken Chowmein. Rice was mediocre but the chowmein was outstanding and portions were great. Definitely recommend this place !
Very good Dim Sum in town I have tried many places but i like here
Good dim sum I love it
What we did have was good but we were really disappointed that there were no baked BBQ buns, no coffee and NO STICKY RICE?!?
Quiet and well kept. The food was served quickly and was hot. The quality of the food was the same as any other Chinese food place in the area but it is the atmosphere that sets it apart. The waitress was very helpful, very kind, and very busy. Was quick to keep the clean.
Excellent food
Only one waitress was on. Took about 1/2 hour to order and another 20 minutes to finally get the Dim Sum. We had two other people join us and ordered some more Dim Sum. After half an hour waiting we decided to cancel our order. Will not be back as I don t have all day to wait for food.
Amazing. Ordered off Uber eats but Red star does their delivery. Very fast delivery and prep time. Such great customer service.
We ordered take out after one of our party recommended this restaurant. We ordered 5 dishes and the bill was $83 before tip. We had Ginger beef, Special egg foo yong, sweet and sour pork, Shanghai noodles, and dry garlic spare ribs. The noodles were good, the ginger beef and pork were ok but not great, the egg foo yong was burnt on the bottom and the dry ribs were the worst Ive ever had. Maybe 1 piece in 5 had some meat on it, the rest were just battered bone and gristle. The ribs were garbage. I would recommend staying away from this place.
Great folks and food has been great for years.
Being from Toronto, I desperately miss heading to China Town on a Sunday morning for dim sum and char siu bao. I am happy to have found this place and It reminds me of home. The food is so delicious and the atmosphere is fantastic.
6 stars Dim Sum. We always go there when in red deer. Good fast service. If dim sum is what you craving this is the place. Price is reasonable. Authentic taste. Great variety. Highly recommended. Food : 5/5
One of my favorite restaurants.
Took almost an hour to receive our order but its worth it. Very impressed by the dim sum, rare to find a good restaurant for dim sum in Red Deer.
We arrived at 1pm, and was surprised how quiet it was at first. We orderered multiple dishes of dim sum expecting average food. Congee arrive within 15 minute from ordering and first few spoonfulls we were suprised at how it was seasoned perfectly with perfect consistency. Next our shrimp dumpling, chicken feet, shumai, lotus wrapped rice and shrimp crepe followed few minutes later and again we were surprised how fresh and delicious everything was. My wife and I grew up eating all shorts of dimsum restaurants in calgary and this restaurants quality of dim sum was on par with some of the best in calgary. The serves was perfect, waitress checked in on us consistently taking our dishes away and even filling our tea cup for us. Towards the end of the meal she gave us a chinese calander to thank us for coming. All in all very impressed with this restaurant and would recommend for the good quality of dimsum.
Excellent service and food.
Ordered delivery on a very cold, windy day. The food arrived early, very hot and fresh. Wonderful meal. The driver was very friendly and courteous. Will definitely order from this establishment again! Excellent value for cost!
Ordered fried rice and mixed meat tofu hotpot. I was disappointed. Firstly there is no utensils or napkins with the order, even though I asked for it. Secondly, there is no single piece of meat in the tofu hotpot. They must be very busy.
My food was burnt and over cooked payed $54.64 and the food was garbage dragon city has better food food is also over priced food at red star was so gross
Awesome food! We always go for the Dim sum decently priced Wheelchair accessibility: No stairs, wide doors. Doors are not automatic. Food : 5/5 |
BEST Chinese food in Red Deer, always fresh and tasty!
Chaotic picking up our order on Christmas Eve. The food was good. We will go back.
I understand that New Years Eve is busy. But 3.5 hours is a little much. Get organized! Ordered off Skip and could not track order as they are in charge of delivery, which I didn t know till I ordered. Called many times and could not get through. When it finally rang no one answered or just hung up. Finally cancelled at 9 pm and went to another place to get food, on my way home with food they called and said my order was at the door, this is at 9:40 pm. I had ordered at 5:40. Ridiculous
Easily the best Chinese place in Red Deer. Service is a little slow but for me its worth it.
The food is amazing
Floors are dirty, no service and we had to go get our own utensils and condiments. Bean sprouts were not fresh
Best in town
CAUTION! Poor attention to detail on takeout orders! I have dined in multiple times and the food is generally very good as is the service. However, I have ordered delivery and take out on several occasions and every time, they manage to screw up my order. The last time I ordered online, I asked for 2 pair of chopsticks, soya sauce, chili oil and chili paste. When I got home, I realized all they gave me was less than half the amount of soya sauce requested and nothing else. I also requested half the amount of white onions they normally put in their beef with ginger and onion hot pot yet when I opened the container, there appeared to be more white onions than normal!!! So if you order online, you pay your money and take your chances. Dine in if you can...at least you can send your order back if not done right. Also, make sure they put the requested condiments, chopsticks etc. in a SEPARATE container or bag so you can check it before you leave. Dont fall for the everything is in the bag BS.
Neah
Always amazing
Absolutely the worst Chinese food in all of Red Deer. Eating there is like drinking canola oil. Avoid at all cost!
Always great
When in Red Deer I always order here. They have the best tasting salt and pepper tofu and vegetarian options in Western Canada.
Love this place. Sunny is and staff are wonderful. If you bring seafood, Sunny will cook it. Just have to ask before hand. If you have allergies no problem. They cook what you want. Good variety. Not to pricy and excellent service.
Not good food - no taste at all.
Only thing hot was tea and soup. 3 dishes very cool, one was not what was ordered (similar) but cheaper version and charged higher on bill. Ordered rice which never appeared but was on the bill. Will never go back .
No goog. Never.
Excellent food and service
Although the food tasted decent there was metal found in one of the dishes. Not only did they seem to be unphased by what I told them they only offered to give a credit for the same dish for next time. Im sorry there wont be a next time, that could of killed someone or hurt them bad. I hope the food board takes this more serious than they did
Amazing food!
Amazing fried rice and general tso chicken. A bit heavy on the flavor, but greasy Chinese food in red deer? Gold.
The worst experience
Great food, friendly staff, quick delivery definitely a must try
Delicious chinese food. It may be pricey but its worth it. The best egg rolls Ive had since montreal! Generous portions and quality ingredients, and theyre open on most holidays.
So glad we can eat in again. Thank you for checking for vaccines. The food is always delicious with generous portions.
Wasted 40 dolllers on under cooked hard noodles am so mad couldent even eat my chow mein thanks red star for doing that for me never gonna order from theme agang waste of money
Good food all reflect by good owner
Foods are decent good service from waitress. Must be careful when you order 1/2 A bbq chicken or 1/2 a duck. Chefs would steal portion of your order from you. Was told chefs there are owner of the business. It s unfortunate we have supported their business for years. Very pathetic!
Everything was soupy tonight.... So many plastic containers... smaller portions than they used to have :(
This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had, the chicken chow mein was greasey. We ordered the dinner for two which was 32.00 and sent back 75% of our meal and still had to pay $25. Would never to back here.. even the service was nothing to brag about either
Ordered our food tonight through skip the dishes for a dinner for four, all together ended up costing me $75 for a very mediocre take on chinese food. Our squid was soggy, the egg rolls had a very unfamiliar spice in it that made them taste completely different, only good thing was our rice... so sad this use to be our favourite place.
Great food
I Loooove Red Star!! Best Chinese in the city, chow mein is my favourite. Highly recommend!!!
Chow mien!!!!
Woke up this morning with food poisoning after ordering from here and spending $60 last night. DO NOT EAT HERE BE WARNED.
Best Chinese in Red Deer.
DO NOT ORDER TAKE OUT. I called around 4 to place an order. They showed up after 6. Told them to just take it back. I will never order from this place again. They couldnt even be bothered to at least give a courtesy call to say running late. Goes to show that this business has ZERO customer service.
We ordered 10 items for pickup. They were all correct, and the service was friendly. However, the deep fried prawns, the lemon chicken, and the dry ribs were very over cooked, and had way more coating than meat. The chow mein tasted burnt and some noodles looked burnt. The chop Suey was just meat and bean sprouts, which was surprising for us as at other restaurants it has multiple vegetables. Nothing we ordered was great, but the egg Foo Yung was the best. Also, for the price it really wasnt much food. Overall disappointed, especially since weve always enjoyed when weve eaten in the restaurant.
paid substantially more than prices listed on internet - approx $14.00. Will go back to my goto place, Thought I would try another business. Disappointed by price and quality of food.
We ordered take out last night and it was great.
I ordered from them through Skip the Dishes and wasnt able to track it due to them managing our own delivery. I waited 3 hours for my food, and when I got it, they had forgotten items and gave me the wrong items!!! Definitely never ordering from them again!!
Zero stars not an option. Waited 3 hours for our order on Mothers Day after being re-assured twice it was coming. Never arrived. Will never order from this place again!
Good food .priced right .excellent servings
Red Star is awesome!! Best Chinese I Red Deer!!
Amazing food, especially liked the salt and pepper squid
Food wasnt good. Got wrong orders.
Excellent take out
Best Chinese food in Red deer and friendly service
REVISED. Still good food but I take 3 stars away because your servers are not wearing masks. Leaning right over the table, close to everyone. Your right to not wear them but my right not to go back- too much risk.
Went to Red Star restaurant yesterday for the first time. I was blown away with portion sizes, and the freshness of the food for the price. We fed 5 people with a dinner for 4, a chop suey, and wontons. Not one dish did we not enjoy. But we brought home 6 CONTAINERS FULL OF FOOD. Enough for 2 meals of leftovers for all of us. Delicious food, good prices, friendly staff, good wait times. Would HIGHLY recommend.
Food was delicious!
My family have been regulars at Red Star for years. Best noodles & dim sum in the city. During peak times, it can be a bit of a wait - but that goes for any popular restaurant.
Ordered chicken chow mein and ginger beef. Very disappointed on portion size for the price I paid. Also not impressed with the quality of the food. First and last time I order from there.
We ordered lunch today and to be completely honest it was gross. The chow mien was basically really over cooked soggy itchiban and the beef and broccoli was barely cooked at all, it was as if we were eating raw veggies. Within an hour of eating, both our stomachs were so unsettled and gurgling! Definitely not happy with the food and will not be ordering from here again.
very hit and miss, say no to the chow mein.
We have waited over 2 hours for delivery. We contacted them and they said they are busy. I dont care how busy a restaurant is, it should never take more than 2 hours to get your food, especially Chinese Restaurants who have everything prepared. I will never order from here again.
Excellent food and service
Excellent Chinese food. Always hot fresh food when it has arrived. We order from here always. Best Chinese food in town.
The portions were huge and the 3 dishes were more than enough for 4 ppl to eat! This is what was left over from 2 ppl dining. Business is open for public.
Very decent dim sum. All the staples were very good.
There are better places. The customer service and quality of food here is below average. The only reason Ive gone here is they are one of the few places to offer beef ho fan. Ill look elsewhere now. I ordered from there and they called me saying theres no ho fan. Fair. I tried to cancel and they couldnt because of skip the dishes services. So I chose an alternative. Later skip called me and offered me a refund. And the option to cancel the alternative dish. So I chose the refund and cancelled the dish. Then I get a call from a red star employee saying I cant do that. She started yelling at me how I cant say one thing then chamge. I tried to explain, but for fear of someone sneezing in my food I just said Im sorry. Clearly a communication issue between skip and red star. regardless if someone cancels 1 dish...cancel the dish. Dont phone them back and scream at them like theyre your child not the best way to do business
Horrible take out. The food was cold and really poor quality, dry ribs were just burnt batter no meat, and the special chow meain was covered in thick clear goop, noodles were over cooked and hard. 80 bucks down the drain, wont be ordering from here again
Ive ordered takeout from here a couple of times and its the only place Ill order Chinese from in Red Deer and Ive tried every single Chinese restaurant. Ordered over the phone and food arrived in 35 minutes. The driver was friendly and food was packed nicely. They are good at balancing flavours here and the taste is comparable to Chinese food in big cities (Vancouver, Toronto, etc.). Its not the best Chinese food Ive ever had, but its definitely the best in Red Deer.
Tried their duck and rice noodles in soup. Very good!
