Cilantro and Chive is a family-owned restaurant rooted in Central Alberta, proudly serving fresh, locally sourced ingredients. With a passion for craft beer, craft cocktails, and simple, delicious eats, we offer a unique dining experience that reflects our love for community. Whether you're here for our famous Burger of the Month (with proceeds supporting local charities), our seasonal menu, or one of our creative beer or mimosa flights, you'll feel the warm, welcoming atmosphere we bring to every table. 💜
Skip the steak and oyster mushroom bits, but DO enjoy the Duck Wings. OMG!!! This nice dining establishment is ALSO a beer lovers dream! The beer menu ran for PAGES. Spent more time reading the beer menu, than the food menu. My new favourite beer is called PICKLED TINK. A beer infused with pickle juice, from an Alberta brewery. 2 appetizers, 2 craft beers and tip = $50 PLUS in December, they are having a gift card program that you can cash in, in January. I WILL be back!
Cilantro&Chive went above and beyond for our very large group of 30 people. Not only was the service above and beyond but the ambiance, preparedness and communication were impeccable. Excellent experience and truly grateful to every single staff member. All of them were friendly, kind, and eager to help!!!! Thanks so much
I just wanted to say “Thank You” for the wonderful experience we had last night dining in the dome. It was amazing, our waitress was the best, so friendly and helpful, the food was great and we were so toasty and warm!!
This has been my favourite restaurant in Red Deer since I moved back. I try to go at least once a month if funds allow for their burger of the month and their creme brulee flavours. But the rest of their food has been great as well
Good food and great selection of craft beer on tap. Not far off the highway if you’re passing through. The servers are friendly and the atmosphere is always fun and pleasant.
Stopped here on our way from Edmonton to Calgary. We were short on time, so we phoned and asked if we could place our order by phone so that the food was ready when we arrived. They were super accomodating and friendly. The food was delicious, the Prime Rib tacos were super fresh, and I could have eaten them all! My pulled pork sandwich came on delicious soft bread and had jalepenos throughout the Pork- so flavorful! Would definitely go back!
We checked this place out while passing through the city. I had Jasper Burger of the month where $2 from each sale directly benefits those affected by the fires. It featured 2 elk and pork patties on a pretzel bun with crispy onions, caramelized onions, tomato and lettuce. The burger was good but the patties seemed to be more on the pork side and not elk. My wife had the Korean Noodle Bowl which had fried pork belly, cabbage, carrots, radish, cilantro and chopped peanuts. She thought the dish came as described but had a spice factor that wasn't mentioned but they brought out some milk for her (admittedly, she doesn't handle heat well). My daughters shared both the Dill Pickle Poutine and side Rainbow Kale salad. They were happy with both. We were seated as soon as we got in. Our daughters were given kids meals with crayons and trivial pursuit questions to ask each other. They ended up ordering off the main menu as it was quite limited with the usual burgers, grilled cheese, etc. I had to ask for refills on my soda otherwise it was a decent experience.
This joint is rock solid. Stopped in here for lunch with my cohort on a business visit to Red Deer. I’m sorry I’ve forgotten our servers name but she was absolutely lovely. Very knowledgeable on the menu and genuinely personable. I think it’s pretty awesome that they have things like cold brew coffee, and kombucha on tap. I had one of those coffees and it was well balanced and delicious. My dining partners had the pulled pork, and CBD Burger. I had Taylor’s Ring of Fire with the daily soup as my side. The soup was really well done. Chicken and rice based with a very nicely added touch of ginger. The aromatic element paired perfectly with the taste. The sandwich was bang on as well. Flavourful and very well cooked. I’m always in disbelief how many places manage to screw up a fried chicken sandwich. Not this spot. Very well done. It’s a cool atmosphere. A great option as you first enter Red Deer from the south end of town. I suspect I’ll be in Red Deer more and more in the near future so glad I already have a go to spot while I’m there!
We had our Christmas Party at C&C this weekend. We had the party in the Den space and had the delicious Den menu. The prime rib was absolutely amazing. The beef wellington is out of this world. Our waitress Sam was top notch. She had 26 people to tend to and she did just that. Nobody had an empty glass ever or went without anything. She is a gem!! Cilantro and Chive.. you are the absolute best!!!
Food menu is great but the flies not so appetizing.
Our first time here, but definitely not the last one! Tacos were amazing, salmon was great, jambalaya was spicy :) crème brûlée was awesome!!! Our waiters Jory was great! We will be definitely coming back! Thank you very much:)
Awesome food!
really busy, municipality meeting in town. Food was good, waitress was great.
The food here is great, however super disappointed when my 10 year old is not permitted to order off the kids menu (its strictly for 8 and under). My 10 year old doesnt have a large enough appetite for an adult menu item and there are limited options for kids this age who fall in between. Will look for family friendly options moving forward.
Was in for a big birthday party, happy that things went really smooth, the food is always incredible!!
We were passing through red deer and thought we would stop for a nice supper. Nothing but disappointment. My husbands chicken sandwich bun came so burnt that he had to send it back. By the time it was remade we were all done eating... my ravioli came with onions no mention in the menu and the sauce was tasteless. We have been waiting a long time to try this restaurant and should have went else where.
Very friendly and prompt service. Food comes out fast and hot!
Great food and great service. Allowed me to modify my order to accommodate my Keto lifestyle. The steak and the salad were both high quality. The Trivial Pursuit cards on the table would have been a nice touch to facilitate social interaction within a group, but I was traveling alone, thus dining alone. I do have one small nitpick with the tagline Fresh-Simple-Eats however. The menu does not actually consist of simple food. Most of it is quite unique. While that makes it interesting, and often very good, it isnt simple. Simple is what you would find at the average truck stop diner. While I love truck stop diners, Cilantro and Chive is much higher end than that. This is just me being overly pedantic about their, slogan, however, so dont let it deter you from dining here.
Very energetic place...loud but food good salmon dinner was excellent.
I enjoyed the wide range of beers . The food was delicious and quickly prepared.
Drinks are great,Jambalaya was good, fish and chips were very oily but the place was way too cold. When you have to get coats in the car because the airco is blasting and your freezing ,it is just not comfortable. And that is coming from a person that is always hot and sweaty. Too bad because nothing worse then being cold while eating.
Food was amazing! Just the right amount of spice. Large portions! Definitely will go back soon
If you want to try the worst place to eat lunch or dinner, go to Cilantro and Chive - Red Deer Location. We visited this location on Saturday, hoping to get a great lunch meal, but it turned out to be a disaster. We ordered three dishes, and all three of them were shitty in both taste and presentation. The cost of each dish was too high, and the service could have been better. We should get a refund for our money because it ruined our entire day with our worst experience. If there is any option for 0 star, i would choose that option or negative star. Vegetarian options: Worst vegetarian meal i have ever tried in my lifetime.
prime rib Wednesday. What else to say. Forgot our servers name but she mentioned she had just been to Europe. The place is very well decorated with old window frames. Will go back when through.
A group of us went for a celebratory supper Saturday night, and a great time was had by all! The staff set up a bunch of tables in a private area for us. The servers were attentive, and every single one of the food and drink orders came out exactly right. Some of the menu options were interesting, including burgers with unique combinations. Everyone was very happy with their appetizers, entrees, and drinks and left with smiles on their faces. There was no pressure to hurry, so we were able to linger and visit. So glad we picked Cilantro and Chive for our get-together!
Ordered for supper and was very disappointed when we discovered our fries were very over cooked basically burnt.
Went here today for lunch. All 4 of us had the poutine which was the special of the day. Great taste and good portion. Highly recommend Food
Great stop on our way to Calgary! Took a chance on the place and wasnt disappointed. Food was great and will be back in the future.
Service was top notch!. My hubbie had Bison burger, was very yummy, fresh. I had fish, in house made tarter sauce Devine. Would definitely return. Thank you.
Been a few times. They are trying too hard to do too much and missing the mark in everything. Like whoever created the menu watched a ton of food network has no culinary experience and thought they could pull it off.
Went in for the first time because we had a gift card. Ordered the fish and chips plus a cauliflower starter. The cauliflower was good if a tad on the salty side. Fish and chips were excellent. This will be our go-to place for fish and chips over Joeys only now. The service was excellent.
We love supporting local businesses but for some reason, I have never had a good meal at this location. Yet, the Cilantro and Chive in Lacombe always delivers delicious food, full of flavour! I m not sure why but it s always disappointing coming to this location to eat and I ve given it numerous tries, always hoping I will be wrong. My mom and I also came in to this one and she is in kidney failure so asked for a chicken sandwich with none of the bacon and fixings on it. The server stated that was not possible and there was no way to ring that into the till, instead telling my mom she would have to take off the items herself (thus wasting the toppings). We were not even expecting a discount Very odd and not accommodating.
Just had our first experience at Cilantro and Chive. Extremely kind staff and very tasty dinner. Thank you Kate!
The food was not very good - plus there were flies everywhere in the restaurant, landing in food constantly. Would have been safer to eat outside to be honest. Spouse ordered the salmon and it was gnarly - just drenched in sauce. We actually had to be moved because the flies were so bad where we were sitting. I felt bad for the server because she had no control but what can you do? Has the potential to be good because the menu looks appetizing but the result was mediocre / sub par.
Our server Charis was fantastic! She was attentive and on very personable! Would definitely recommend her and this restaurant!
Loved this place! My husband brought me here for my birthday a couple weeks ago and it was amazing. Neither of us had ever been and we were not dissappointed! Friendly wait staff, delicious food, and the portions were worth the money! The trival pursuit cards on the tables made the waiting for our meals fun. Definitely would reccommend!
My favourite restaurant in Alberta next to Cilantro and Chive in Lacombe
This place is really hit or miss. Sometimes its good but servings are very small and over priced for what you get.
Charis is an amazing server who went above and beyond to make our evening perfect! The food was great and we will definitely be coming back soon!
Great vibe , good food and decent portions and good service
Food was great, staff were friendly!
Fantastic, amazing and wonderful. If you don t stop there you re crazy!!!
A very decent meal for the price
Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options available Dietary restrictions: Celiac and other dietary restrictions taken seriously Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly- there s a whole kids menu and crayons AND games for the whole fam Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible
Great beer menu if thats your thing. Poutine is also great especially if you love dill pickle poutine. The service hasnt been great the couple of times Ive been there. Not slow, just not super friendly. They do give you a lovely piece of double bubble gum at the end though so thats kind of awesome...
I have been a fan of chive and cilantro when I discovered it in Lacombe however the Red deer does not do it justice. I went today and I was less than impressed the food all taste pre made and was over price for the quality. The pretzel cheese dip tasted like it came from a can and then put some real cheese warmed up on the top, the Philly cheese steak sandwich had little flavour and the meat was over cooked from likely be re heated in a microwave for too long,I will say the sweet potatoes were cooked nice but they had no seasoning. The pork ribs were tender but again lacked flavour there was nothing fresh or special about the blueberry bbq sauce you could taste the fake smoked favouring added to it. The smashed potatoes were kind of gross it was like they added have a tablespoon of garlic powder to 3 little potatoes and said now there s some flavour . I will say the broccoli was cooked nicely and I did enjoy that. Overall it was not an enjoyable experience I won t be visiting this location again.
Staff is so friendly and courteous. Our server was great, thanks Paul! We had the jambalaya pappardelle, it was phenomenal, wow, so good!
I met my best friend here for brunch today. The food was good, the service was even better. Great staff here.
The portion is super small Thursday special Stuffed Yorkie Pudding Not kidding this is what I get See that beef like piece of paper Really not worth the price . Never come back to here lol
A Fusion of homegrown Albertan, and big chain restaurant. If the friendly staff and quaint atmosphere does not drawn you in, the food certainly will. Locally sourced ingredients make for big flavor, served with a dizzying array of Albertan craft beers. Certainly worth a stop if you are eating in the area.
Get atmosphere our waitresses was very quick & efficient Delicious food & loved the 4 Ceasar tester Food
After not visiting this establishment for over a year I was excited to have a mom s night out and treat myself. We were warned there was large groups and food might take awhile which is totally fine. The atmosphere is always pleasant, however it appears the chef might have been having an off night The unleaded lavender lemonade was great as normal, the service was fine and after reading the description I was excited to order the Million Dollar Spaghetti with added chicken. However when it arrived the noodles were extremely dry, the added chicken was dry to the point of being hard to chew and the dish did not meet the description at all. There was one tiny patch of cheese and no cream cheese to be found at all until I packed up 95% of my meal to see if my kids would eat it and found a random clump of cream cheese in the bottom. When paying almost $30 for a main dish I expected a lot more than something I could have done better with $3 of ingredients. My friend had the same experience with her food ordering a completely different dish. It was a very disappointing experience over all and quality control is something I would prioritize.
Just went for Mother s Day brunch! Fantastic food and drinks! The flower in a mug to take home was a nice touch
I ordered a medium steak, but got well-done, and it took nearly an hour to receive what I ordered. However, the server was great.
I have been to cilantro and chive and usually its pretty good. They have very limited vegetarian options, used to be better . I had the million dollar pasta and it was no million unfortunately. Im a huge local supporter so I hope it improves . Maybe I hit an off day. My son had the Bison burger and he really enjoyed. It was my Moms first time trying and she found it very pricey and not worth it .. I had wanted to share a super star response because I have had really awesome meals in the past.
Enjoyed a date night out at Cilantro & Chive! Always amazing tasting food here. Had the Korean Cauliflower Bites, the Loaded Baked Potato Poutine and hubby got the Beef Taco Poutine - everything was very flavourful and delicious! Excellent service and atmosphere was pleasant!
We booked the Den for our group of 24 people. Great food and great service, it ran seamlessly. As always, delicious!
Nice place. Good appetizers
Very unimpressed with treatment of staff and inconsistencies of quality of food.
A funky menu that has a burger of the month that helps out local charities. They carry a great supply of local brews. The restaurant definitely has polarizing opinons but our visits have always been positive.
Food waa good, but was busy and loud.
Excellent, everytime. Worth the stop if you are traveling through Red Deer. 5 stars
Had the chicken and waffles off the brunch menu. I had an amazing burger before so I had high expectations. It was good but the chicken was dry.
Absolute worst menu Ive ever saw. Its no wonder the parking lot was empty when we showed up. The one thing I was going to order they were all out of.. cant see this business lasting long here with a menu like that.
The absolute worst place Ive ever been in Red Deer. Place wasnt even full, service was slow. And the food absolutely disgusting.
My family and I went to have dinner in-between my daughters dance competition and I must say we were all very disappointed with our meals. I started with the cocktail flight, which was delicious and highly recommended. They also have many beers to choose from. 2 of us ordered the sully chicken burger, which was large in size but lacked flavor. The other burger that was ordered was just your typical burger, nothing special for the price they charge. 2 ppl had the famous pasta, which was terrible. No flavor, dry, and wasnt even hot. When we asked for more sauce to try and make it edible, they charged us $4 on the bill. You got to be kidding me! Your customer is willing to add more sauce to eat the good and u wanna charge us, shame on you. A proper restaurant would have taken the dish off the bill. Needless to say, we will never be back, and I would not recommend this place to anyone wanting to eat. Only good for drinks
Always busy because its always good!
Delicious spot to have brunch / lunch or dinner! Very nice drink selection too, as well as great service and a nice atmosphere.
The foods are OK! The value is poor!
We gave this restaurant another try and all I can say is WOW! Food was hot and delicious! Our server was excellent and answered all our questions. We will return!
Dietary restrictions: They have gluten free option but cant guarantee cross contamination with there deep fryer so fries are not an option. Food
Service was good. Was waited on quickly and good came out quickly. However the food was very bland. The steak was cook how I ordered it but had to add salt and pepper. The presentation was terrible. The sauce was just dumped on one end of the steak. Potatoes were nothing special and the broccoli was again just dumped on the plate. For a $30+ meal you would expect some effort being made to having it look presentable. No flavour to the meal. Not impressed at all. Doubt if I will be back.
Ate there tonight, food was pretty good but they need a lesson in proper cleaning, My clothing absolutely reeks of restaurant grease from the booth seat and table surface. DO BETTER!
Always a great place to go.
We have been trying to get here for a while, always so busy. We had previously been to the one in Lacombe. We made a reservation finally and were seated right away, and it was still busy. Our server was prompt taking our orders for both food and drink. There is an amazing selection of beer and interesting cocktails. The food was excellent, large portions. I finished mine without being uncomfortably full, and my wife could only eat half her burger. It was huge. Love that they serve so many craft beer from local and other small microbreweries. Our server was fun and friendly (Travis? I wish Id taken my receipt). We were happy to leave a large tip for the excellent service, great atmosphere, and fantastic food! Will make it back again!
Ordered smash burger and fries and was very disappointed. Fries came out and were cold to the touch and have been sitting for a long while. Burger was not the usual quality.I was looking forward to this meal and left feeling like something was off :(
Food was good, none of our meals were OMG though... Service was good too
The food was average nothing to write home about. The Jambalaya was nasty, I like hot and spicy but only thing you could taste was pepper should have just ate the pepper shaker and sauce was extremely watery.
Wow... eat here. Best burger Ive ever had in my life. No joke. Parking: Lots of convenient parking Food : 5/5 |
The fuzzy peach slushy was on point.
Food sucks, service sucks. Went twice to make sure. Sucked twice. Honestly preferred montanas across the street.
Great food. I was really impressed they have period products for free in the restroom. I needed something unexpectedly and it was very much appreciated
A very subtle atmosphere for Cocktails, Appetizers & Desserts. Love It
Upset seeing one of the chefs eating while cooking.
Stopped in to order an appi and crème brûlée for bday. Hubby had duck wings which he said were great - tender and tasty. I had the red velvet strawberry brûlée and he had the vanilla. Both were lovely. Just the right size, velvety smooth and flavorful. Service was prompt and Emma was friendly and helpful. Their Thursday menu included a stuffed Yorkshire that looks delicious for a very good price.
The fish must have been contaminated. Both of us who got it out of the 7 of our party got very sick. I reported them to the health inspector after I called and told them both of us who ate the same dish got sick and we dont live together or eat anything else together and the guy who answered at cilantro and chive laughed when I told him so Im waiting to hear back from the health inspector now since this place doesnt seem to care about me missing 2 days of work after paying them for bad fish. Do not recommend!
Absolutely loved my experience. Will be back as often as possible when in the area. I had the pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese, was amazing. Service was quick and attentive during the visit. Food : 5/5
Absolutely delicious! Customer service impeccable.
Great food but the poor staff are spread out too thin and overworked. Staff turnover seems relatively high(see new faces relatively often) and because of that and understaffing, wait staff often seem confused and overwhelmed. I really wanted to consider this my new local spot but I dont really feel like Im supporting the community when I patronize a restaurant that seems to treat its own staff so poorly. Update: I appreciate the response! I truly do hope the atmosphere is usually better than I perceived but I can not in good conscience give you a better review and I stand by my experiences. This has been my takeaway on multiple occasions and one that I do not have at other local establishments that I regular. I apologize for making inferences about the reason why my service was the way it was, I could not see how the issue would be anything but management when it happens at various different times and with different waitstaff but I could surely be mistaken or just have gotten unlucky with my experiences. Also its true that many have left for different industries, but its naive to imply that the industry is fine the way it is and that it has done nothing to wrong the people who have been working so tirelessly for it, especially during these trying times. The workload itself seems to be several times more than many other local restaurants I go to or have worked at with a comparable number of staff on duty and with a higher price point yet your offered wages seem to be the same or very similar which is very concerning.
Good food, lots of good beers to choose from
The server did a great job serving our party The food was excellent, try the Poutine and Fish and chips. Food
Had a great lunch with 10 of us. Service was terrific as usual, food was awesome, drinks were fun and well made. No complaints as usual. These guys know what the do well and they do it well every time.
Yummy foods. Yummy beers.
Nice friendly bit pricie
Very mediocre food. Wasnt impressed by the portion sizes nor the flavors. Had the Philly and it tasted like airplane food; unnecessarily oily and full of sauce that was not great. Not much flavor. Tasted like it was frozen and thrown in the microwave. My side salad was literally 4 bites. Left hungry. Service was excellent. Drink menu is huge. Atmosphere was pleasant enough. Unfortunately I wont be going back anytime soon.
Great service and nice atmosphere. The food was good and reasonable price. The server was great, I didnt get his name, but he went above and beyond for my friend who was having a bad day. The server paid for my friends drinks , with that sincere gesture helped made his day a bit better. Thank you.
Very unique. It seems that they work very hard at making it a place that has unique options like no other. The liquor and beer menu was something to behold and the food was delicious and distinctive!
Awesome
Fabulous food featuring locally sourced ingredients and wonderful service!
1st time going here ..they had a small menu selection, but what I did get was good. Food
Our family eats here at least every couple months. Never had a bad meal and the service has always been excellent. The atmosphere is pleasant and always clean. I enjoy the ever-changing menu and trying new things.
Sam was our server and she went above and beyond to ensure our stupid food allergies were accommodated. Food was great and they have the largest selection of craft beer Ive ever seen at a restaurant.
Great new school spin on pub food. Would vibes, love eating here.
Take the extra 20 minutes and drive to Lacombe! My wife and I have been going to the original Cilantro and Chive in Lacombe for many years. We have been to this Red Deer location 3 times now and each time has disappointed. This last visit seemed to be the tipping point. Seated and received drinks quickly which are always amazing. Unfortunately waited over 40 minutes to order food, to be told 5 minutes later that they ran out of ground beef (The restaurant was not busy). It s Friday night and you re a burger place The meal I ended up ordering was the noodle bowl, which ended up being boring, bland, and flavourless (I took most of it home and made it better). My wife s perogie and sausage meal was great. Cherry on top of the evening was no hand soap left in the washroom. I appreciated they did take off 50% from my main for the inconvenience of the no beef. I will continue to go to Lacombe, we will not be back at your Red Deer location.
I really enjoy the food here. You can tell its mostly hand crafted and very unique in the different types of dishes that they offer, unlike most big chain restaurants. A little pricier than most other places, but worth it for the quality. Kid-friendliness: Young children are allowed
Meh! I was so hungry but ended up not ordering because nothing appealing on the menu. The service sucked as well with the waitress throwing the cuttery on the table as we were animals. Not to talk about the choice of interior design, cringe. No hand sanitizer neither.
We love Cilantro and Chive and typically go to their Lacombe location because its closer (just over an hour), but this time we wanted to try the Red Deer location and was well worth the 90+ minute drive! Their menu may be small but never disappoints. I think thats the benefit of dining in a place with a more limited menu. There is more attention in preparing their dishes. There were 3 of us who all had different dishes and we all loved them. We also had the dill pickle poutine. Seriously to die for. My birthday is coming up and I really want to head out again to enjoy one of their dinner dishes. I already know what I want! We love the ambience of the restaurant as well as their deck. Oh! And the servers are absolutely amazing. I cant say enough about this place. Im always excited to plan our trip to Lacombe or (now) Red Deer to visit Cilantro and Chive.
Night out for supper before a concert, perfect place to pick for an all around memorable evening. We went on Poutine night. 3 out of 5 enjoyed the specials with a flight of beer and a flight of Caesar s. Food was great, service was above and beyond. Thanks so much.
Good food, good ambience and good choices! Nuff said. Memes are a great touch (iykyk)
Service was good, food was good and the prices are fair ! Im not easily impressed with most of the restaurants that get good reviews but Ive been here a half dozen times in the past few months so they must be doing something right I very rarely rate 5 stars,Four is pretty high rating for me ... Korean bbq noodle dish is huge and healthy. Only I wish they would have chopsticks for this Asian style dish ! Oh well, I do bring my own
Very disappointing for our whole party of six. Our initial server was terrible. I ordered a coffee and it came luke warm and so I asked her for a new one which she brought and it was also cold. When I told her of this she told me that other staff had tested it and it was normal and then went on to tell me that making a new pot of coffee would likely not satisfy me because it never makes hot coffee. My grandson was feeling ill and so we asked to be moved inside from the patio to which she said sure. But we were told that we would first have to clear our tab (we had just ordered the food). She also told us that we should move everything to the inside table which we did while she followed with an empty tray. The food dishes ranged from terrible (the Fish Tacos) to not bad (burgers). The one redeeming thing is that once inside we were served by a competent and very friendly server. We wont be returning.
This was the third visit to this location and it was great again. The food was fantastic. My wife and I split the pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese on it and the Cubano sandwich with the dill pickle poutine and they were both it absolutely fantastic! The craft beer selection is also unparalleled which is always a great touch. I will go again and will suggest to others!
The food was great but we all got our meals except my father, who had to wait 15 minutes more for his, when it was brought out it was in a brown paper bag to go and he also had to wait for a drink refill for over 10 minutes
I was here yesterday evening and the atmosphere was nice. But the food wasn t great.. my fiancé loved his food but I had the bison burger (which I usually get from a lot of other places) and I had one bite and that was it.. I just ate the fries after that and some of them just tasted off also.. I know all night and this morning that food was not agreeing with me. The coffee also was 4/10.. the service was amazing though and the place is very clean.
Had a company dinner here and we all enjoyed what we got. The tacos I got were coated, which I didnt expect, but was still great. The pretzel starter is well worth, gotta love those fresh soft pretzel and cheese sauce.
Mediocre at best. Service was great. Place was clean. Chicken on the chicken burger was really tough. Hubs fries were cold and soggy. Mine were not. We ordered the same thing. The boy ordered the Philly sandwich and the bun was so soggy it just fell apart. But again, the atmosphere was awesome and so was our server, Charis.
Amazing food. The service is efficient, friendly and helpful. One of the best restaurants I have visited in a long time!
I have never wrote a review for a place before but I just had to tonight. My girlfriend and I 9/10 get horrible service. Tonight was hands down the best service we had ever received huge shout out to Stephanie for the best service we have ever had we can not stop talking about it thank you so much
Excellent !!!!! Vegetarian options: Jai mangé un Mac and chesse vegé Kid-friendliness: Nous avions notre bébé avec nous
Enjoyed our time on patio today.
First time visiting the Red Deer spot. Jambalaya was amazing. Beverage was creative and delish, cotton candy paired with an Old Fashioned
The meal both my girl friend and I got were great. The starter though... We got the duck wings. The sauce tasted awesome. But the wings were bad or something ... About 20 minutes to half an hour after we got home. We had to evacuate our bowls. In a explosive way, if you know what I mean. The wings were the only thing we shared all day. Not impressed. Im still running to the toilet a couple hours later. If the food has passed, then dont serve it. It was our first time going there. I normally have a pretty damn strong stomach.
We had an awesome time at Cilantro and Chive! They have a great patio and warm staff. The place is very family friendly and the menu offers something for everyone.
Service was awesome. Dad loved his jambalaya and mom and hubby liked the fish. Korean Cauliflower was tasty but could have used more spice. I had the gnocchi with chicken. Chicken was great. Gnocchi was dry. Sauce was bland and there was not enough. Broccolini could have used a little garlic and maybe some parm. A little disappointing for a 30 dollar dish.
Great food. Great service. Great drinks. Had the duck wings as a starter. Amazing. Then we had a couple of pasta dishes and dont regret finishing our plates. Food : 5/5
Great food as usual.
We had an amazing experience! We had Sam T. She is amazing!! Dietary restrictions: Celiac friendly!! Food : 5/5 |
One of my favourite spots for lunch. Food and service is always great.
Love this place. The food is always good, drinks are delicious and generally the service is good!
Our new favourite restaurant. The food was hot and tasty. The bbq sauce on the pulled pork is my favourite flavour. The service was the best, bar none! Our server, Steph, went above and beyond to make our time feel comfortable and more like she was hanging out with us and helping get us our food than we are just the customer buying food off her haha. Music was so good. So refreshing to not just hear top 40 pop music at a restaurant. Their drink menu is extensive and the beer selection was great too. Will be back for sure
Dry chicken, slow service, seemed like food had been sitting under a warmer for a long time. Prices seemed high for the quality of food we got.
Had a wonderful yoga session then went in for brunch. The food was fabulous and the service was amazing. I will definitely be back.
Fast service! Can see why they have been voted #1.
Jambalaya was boring Pulled pork sandwich was good Duck wings were poor Overall a disappointment. Food : 3/5 |
Still delicious as always!
It s always a pleasure going to C&C. Lacombe is awesome and so is RD! The pretzel and dip is a for sure MUST-ORDER if you have never had it before. It truly gives a fresh new flavour to your palette.
Its rare for me to post a restaurant review, but I need to commend Cilantro and Chives Red Deer location for a fabulous dinner. We arrived in the early evening thinking it would be empty on a Monday but were wrong, as clearly the locals know about this gem. After being seated promptly, our server handed us our menus and answered our questions. I settled on the Jambalaya Pappardelle, while the rest of our party ordered a full-sized poutine, a kids hamburger and a Philly sandwich with a Caesar salad. My pasta dish was incredible -- usually jambalaya brings to mind a boil-in-a-bag Creole dish on rice, which too often turns into a starchy, mushy mess. Cilantro and Chives version was exquisite: the chicken was cooked perfectly, the shrimp was tender and plump while the sausage was delectable, with just a touch of spice. It was served on a bed of pappardelle, which is a wide and flat noodle that was able to sop up the delicious cream sauce. I could not stop raving about this dish until my wife put her hand on my shoulder and firmly said Thats enough. The rest of the dishes were equally incredible, with my sons poutine receiving high praise for its ample amounts of cheese and gravy. Still feeling ravenous we ordered dessert, consisting of an ice cream sandwich and creme brulee. The ice cream sandwich was rather large, with two hefty cookies holding in a giant scoop of some of the best strawberry ice cream Ive ever tasted. The creme brulee was also top-notch with its creaminess contrasting nicely with the crisp, sugar topping. The original Lacombe location of Cilantro and Chive will always be one of our favourites due to its cozy, funky atmosphere, but the Red Deer location is equally as enjoyable with its larger dining room, which is just as welcoming to families with young children as it is to hipsters. The service was friendly and prompt, the athmosphere was inviting and any requests we had were greeted with professional courtesy. I didnt get a chance to sample a craft beer from the ridiculously vast menu, but next time I will.
We originally left a 3 star review not because of the food or service but because there was a mix up. The owner reached out to us personally and apologized and we feel so much better about recommending this restaurant to everyone! We loved the food (especially the desert) our waitress was friendly and the atmosphere was great! We loved being able to play games while sitting there. We will definitely come back and give them another try!
All 3 of us found the food very bland and nearly flavorless. You can taste the old oil in the fryers, and they actually double cooked the fries. Guess they got cold. Our waitress wasnt rude, but she definitely wasnt friendly. The restaurant was also very loud, even while 80% empty, with tables shouting over each other. Wish wed saved our $100. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience and we all agreed not to eat here again.
Such good food, service was very friendly and helpful. Loved the mocktail flight - so cute and pretty.
The food was okay, but a little overpriced! $32.00 for Philly steak and cheese sandwich, with a ceasar kale salad which was really good!
Had the quad burger, very filling, good meat
My granddaughter and I went there today for lunch. It was my first visit but definitely not my last. The Canadian Smashburger was the best hamburger I have ever tasted! Service was great, staff were so friendly. My granddaughter s self portrait was awesome to see framed and displayed along with other students s art from local schools. So nice to see! Good Job Cilantro and Chive! Parking: Appears to be adequate parking and spacious parking lot. Kid-friendliness: Saw children there and there s a kids menu! Wheelchair accessibility: Appears to be easy to maneuver inside the restaurant!
Amazing food, great service and just a wonderful experience all together!
Very polite employees. The food was more than expected with amazing taste Food
The food was great along with the drinks. The service was great as well.
Huge selection of all local craft beers. A good selection of non-alcoholic beers which is great to see. The Philly cheese sandwich was supercheesy and delicious. The staff were all super nice and gave great service. Will go back next time Im in red deer.
Food was very well made and tasted great, staff were very good as well, birthday party of 8,everyone was pleased with the food.Unique setting and confortable atmosphere .Definitely check it out
Thanksgiving dinner was horrible. Could barely eat the dry turkey, the carrots were half raw and what was supposed to be a homemade pumpkin pie was a piece of cheesecake which was mediocre at best. We have been to the Lacombe one and have been very happy but this was terrible.
Clean restaurant, amazing food -- way better than I thought. The food has so much flavour, perfect texture and we enjoyed all of it. Will definitely be making this a regular spot on our visit.
We stopped here for lunch on our way from Edmonton to Calgary because wed heard good things about it. It wasnt very busy when we arrived, but my partner had time to go to the bathroom and come back before anyone came to seat us. After that, the service was good. I cant actually remember if I ordered a drink or not--if I had one, Im sure it was good. We ordered the cauliflower bites to start and they were tasty. I had the portobello burger and honestly, I found it kind of bland and one-note. It was so juicy that the bun was soggy and it was very messy to eat. My partner thought it tasted pretty good. I think it was too heavy on the cream cheese. I liked the fries, though. We had some sort of pecan pie cheesecake thing for dessert, which was delicious. Vegetarian options: It would be nice if they had a few more vegetarian and vegan options on the menu.
Everything seems to close at 10pm these days, kitchen at least... Covid hangover still lingering
Maple Rum was delicious... but threw me way off cause thats not how I expect rum to taste lol. Service was friendly and expedient
We booked a reservation for my parents 25th anniversary where they did not seat us together? That was super disappointing. Once the table cleared beside us I asked if we could move and all be together. They said no and moved us to a different table because they had a more important reservation coming for our 3 person table. During this meal we were all apart and we had to move tables while eating our meals. Keep in mind we also booked a reservation and we re only there for an hour and got our food right before they moved us. On top of that the food and drinks were horrible, the drinks on our tables were full when we left and no one was satisfied with the food. We had an awful experience and won t be coming back again.
Service was amazing! Food, not so much. Cold fries seem to be evident in many complaints. Very noisy atmosphere, meh food but great service.
My girlfriend and I went out for a date night and decided to go here. Ive been a few times in the past and it was good. This time unfortunately was quite the opposite. I ordered the prime rib with baked potato. The meat was cold and had about a half teaspoon of sour cream and cheese on the potato. I asked for more butter and sour cream and also horse radish. ( never been served prime rib without getting horse radish. Weird). Kinda hard to eat a dry potato. Was baffled when the check came and was charged for the horse radish and butter. Im not impressed.
The menu seemed to be limited; not a lot of unique options, lots of pub food. The food tasted good but not outstanding. Presentation was nice. Nice patio space and large, deep tables. Very friendly servers. Second visit update November 2023: Small menu with many enticing options. My food was not good. I had the Portobello burger which was incredibly garlicky and salty, the pretzel bun was soft and got soggy, however the zucchini inside was a great touch. Half the leaves in my side salad were not edible as they were turning brown and black. Again, the servers were very friendly. It took a very long time between when the server cleared our dishes and when we finally received our checks. Vegetarian options: There were a few options: a cauliflower bites appetizer, a cremini mushroom bowl, portobello burger, and maybe one more.
Pretty ok place. Friendly staff, pretty standard food. The beer flight is worth a trip.
Food was excellent and the service was great. It was my first time there and I will be back!!
Ordered duck wings. Overcooked and inedible
I had Alberta burger, wife had birirra taco. The taco was 2 tacos, and while they were a bit on bigger side for a taco, 17 is too much for 2 tacos. The alberta burger was a reasonable burger, cost was also too high. Service was real bad. She took food and drink order at the start, then it took 15 mins to get drinks. I had a coke, and had to go to bar my self 1/2 way through meal for a refill. Wait and waited to ask for the bill, was about to walk up front to pay when our server finally dropped by. Totally ignored us for our meal. At my appointment after anther 3rd party says it has been down hill for years, but hey at least it is expensive.
Heard great things about this place but have never been more disappointed from a restaurant experience. I received a glass for my can of beer that had dirty water in the bottom of it. The FOH staff were vacuuming the dining room during service which was loud and destroyed any desirable atmosphere for a dining experience. The fraught beer menu is on a TV near the ceiling with small font. We had to leave our table and stand almost directly under this TV to be able to read the menu. The cheese curds in the poutine were ice cold, the chicken parm sandwich had barely any sauce or cheese and the chicken was very over cooked. The macaroni & cheese was more like buttered noodles with a garnish of half melted cheddar atop. The Nashville chicken sandwich was also over cooked, and had no sauce on the chicken. We requested sauce and received what I m convinced was dirty (almost black) oil from the deep fryer with black sludge and sediment sunken to the bottom. Our server told us the sauce is oil and seasoning from the chicken breading. We waited approximately 20 min after requesting our bill. As a fellow industry worker, we remained polite and understanding during this entire experience as we felt the staff didn t deserve to be disrespected over this. However, we did not even see a manager during our entire visit which likely would have benefited our experience and rectified the poor service/work ethic. Truly hope this review helps the restaurant prevent any other guests from having such an underwhelming experience.
Had dinner in the dome tents tonight, it was perfect! Watching the sunset, eating delicious food under the twinkle lights, and amazing service. Cant wait to go back every time!
Poutine Tuesdays is our favourite night!
Our recent experience with cilantro and chive was nothing short of disappointing. I had a nashville chicken sandwich - the chicken was so over cooked that it was like a piece of jerky. The chicken didnt have hot sauce on it and when I asked about it they brough me a serving of hot sauce and left me to try saucing it at the table. My nephew had a chicken parm sandwich and it was also very overcooked and dry. My mother had the beet and gouda cheese salad and her chicken was overcooked and dry. It was truly the most disappointing meal I have ever had from cilantro and chive. I have been a patron of this restaurant before and have had great food in the past. There must be new kitchen staff and they are not up to par.
Good experience
Every time I come here I have an amazing time. I went last night and the food was served very quickly. And the food is to die for, the waitresses are bubbly and it s just an all round great experience. (Also they have card/board games you can play while you dine and I LOVE this idea!) 100/10 would recommend!!
Been a long time customer ever since when they only had the Lacombe location, always had a really good experience until recently. The drinks, appetizer, and service were great as always, but the mains were disappointing. I had the Spinach & Mushroom Pappardelle, it definitely was not seasoned enough (easy enough to rectify). My fiance had the Chicken Parm Sandwich and the chicken was very dry and chewy with very little sauce to be found, just a very dry sandwich. Looking at it subjectively, the food itself at face value is not overpriced but the quality makes it not worth it. The pasta I wouldve had better quality from Boston Pizza and the sandwich better quality from Popeyes. I believe both of our mains were seasonal, maybe just stick with the regulars.
Ive gone twice to the Red Deer location. Amazing food. Amazing service!
Family night out. Good time and great food. Was busy so service was a bit slow but fun.
Best fish and chips Ive had in a long time
Could not even eat the chicken parm sandwich. I had one bite and threw it in the garbage. Will stick with Smittys or Rickis as they both have good chicken sandwiches. Wont be trying this restaurant again. Very bad taste. Looking at other reviews it sounds like they use dirty old oil which I think is what happened here.
Yorkshires was over cooked/crispy but hamburgers, salad, drinks and dessert were perfect. Waitress was exceptional. We celebrated a birthday in the dome. It was fun! They had heaters and blankets but the weather was so warm we didnt need much.
I literally had dinner here on my wedding day. One of my favourite local restaurants hands down. As a fellow restaurant owner, I am impressed by their professionalism, their culture, and how they build our community. Everyone should eat here at least once. Do not sleep on Cilantro and Chive.
