Wish there was a no star option. I have no photos as it as bad. We went for a birthday celebration. Asked if they could accommodate a table of 7 that evening, we were put in a separate room from the main dining room. The room was cold and the atmosphere others have commented on was non existent. As the room was very disappointing it was nothing compared to the food. The portion are small! This is a shared menu and there was not enough to share unless it's just 2 people. Even the charcuterie board was scant if there was more than 2. Also I ordered the squid ink pasta with mussels took a long time and then were cold! The service was slow and lacked in guidance. The final bill took over an hour to get and involved several people including Joel. However when he was approached about it taking so long and the what might be done for the inconvenience and other things that were lacking Joel walked away and never returned. The bill was inaccurate leaving us unsure what was on it. A huge fail!!
I took the wife here for a nice dinner wasn’t offered a menu was convinced to have a shared meal the special for the evening. Steak was more fat than meat, got an apology no fix. We basically shared a meal and at the end of the meal I got an absorbent over priced bill for over 300 dollars plus tip. Should’ve went the the keg and got our own meals plus drinks and desert for around 150. Disappointing, being on the deck was nice but we were also pestered by wasps most the night. I’d to try again but at those prices not likely.
Such a beautiful venue with so much potential, but ultimately a terrible disappointment. We chose West Lake Grill as a place to meet old friends, one couple travelling from Edmonton and the other from Calgary. Tremendous thanks to our server (Kimberly) who did everything she could to salvage the evening... but it was too much to overcome. I would happily welcome a call from the owner, because it was that bad a miss. Again, hate to see such a wonderful opportunity destroyed through mismanagement. We won't be back.
My family have come here for years and I'm sad to say that the food quality has gone down. I don't know if it's because we come in at busy times or what, but it tastes worse. My biggest gripe was the utter disappointment of a charcuterie board we had, it came with moldy grapes and was incredibly unpleasant. We should've spoken to our server but we felt utterly disrespected, there wasn't even a point. Another time we came in, our food came out cold. Looked gorgeous, but cold. The atmosphere of the place is great, very homey, but the food is disappointing at its worse, tolerable at best considering the prices you're paying for them. Plus side though, your desserts are spectacular.
Atmosphere the ambience is a cozy retreat with rustic charm, earning a solid 4 out of 5 stars. Antique and western decor elements, including charming tablecloths and unique bronze curlers, create an immersive atmosphere. The occasional sight of horses passing by the windows makes a truly memorable experience. Food The food at West Grill Ranch earns a commendable 4 out of 5 stars. One standout dish is the mushroom omelet, served with whole wheat bread and homemade jam. Each bite bursts with natural flavors, and the affordable prices are a big plus. However, during our visit, the food took a bit longer than expected to arrive—37 minutes for two people on a relatively quiet day. The flavors were worth the wait. Service The staff at West Grill Ranch deserves a perfect score of 5 out of 5 stars. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome, with authentic smiles and helpful assistance. Our server checked in on us frequently, ensuring that our needs were met. Additionally, the kitchen staff accommodated allergies without hesitation, making slight alterations to dishes as needed. Overall, the exceptional service truly elevated our dining experience.
Went for the date night option and while I wish I could rate this place better they simply failed all around. When I booked online the meal came with wine matching so I specified asked about cocktail as we do not drink wine, I was told this was included. Got to heratage ranch and went on the carrage ride was 10 out of 10. But for diner. The first two courses were frozen grapes and 5 tiny slices of oyster mushrooms. Service was slow for these these rounds had an empty drink the entire time. Next coarse was puree ot came cold and was good but very bland. Main course was 2 5ounce steaks one bison and one beef this was very well seasoned and tender but we where never asked how we wanted it cooked so came medium well. The a shot glass of frozen berries followed by a chocolate dessert that was good but very rich. Finally finished and told.tge only comped one drink in lue of the wine. I have been to many chefs meals and this was by far the most disappointing. The waitress was slow and not friendly. All and all for a $500 meal and ride I will never come back or encourage anyone to come here.
A bit tricky to find as you don't expect there to be a restaurant in the middle of a park, but WOW! We had 3 items and each one was presented with such care. The salad was pricy at $17, but it easily serves 2 maybe 3. Everything is homemade and it shows. Do yourself a favor and eat here!!
New menu that is very unique and somewhat pricey. My wife and I enjoyed the pizza 🍕 and it was great. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed a nice meal on a warm day. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was tasty and served hot. There restaurant was clean and the ambiance was pleasant.
For 116 dollars you would think they could serve the food warm at least
Amazing place to eat
Im changing my review The site is great. A beautiful spot. Staff were friendly but uninformed about drink options etc The food....it was just not good. Asparagus not trimmed well, steak chewy, multiple complaints from the group I went with . Overall, the venue is nice....but the food needs some major work .
Amazing service. Fantastic food. Wonderful atmosphere 10/10
We were out ebiking decided to check out their happy hour..it took over a half hour to get a drink I after ordering. My friend ordered the bison nachos when we first arrived it tikka45 minutes to get his preset, another 20 for my other friend to get his raw pizza sampler. The we were charged regular pricing, we felt really bad for our server whom was obviously new there and struggling
Love this place. Cant wait to go back for the couples evening carriage ride and dinner!
Was a very disappointing experience. There were two people serving, and that was clearly not enough because the service was slow and rarely available when we needed. Served appetizers, but then left with no cutlery or napkins on table. I had to get that myself. Mushroom scallops, which were cold, had an overpowering glaze that overwhelmed the dish significantly. Not a single person on the table enjoyed them. . Only two of 3 appies were delivered, and then 1 of the 6 entrees appeared, which was weird. Then the charcuterie board was served 15 minutes after the early dinner arrived. No bread served with the board despite menu saying it comes with artisanal bread. When we asked for it, 3 tiny toasted pieces of a clearly-not-artisanal bread were brought out. Early dinner recipient was almost finished his meal when the board came out. 45 minutes after the first dinner was served, the other 5 dinners came out. The Pave was cold and I didn t enjoy. The T-Bone steak was overcooked, over-seasoned and dead cold. Major overhaul needed here. I don t plan to ever return.
This was my favourite restaurant of all time, my boyfriend and I went for my birthday on the 18th the menus completely changed you have to pay separately for the main and sides, we had the bison and beef filet mignon, with the potato pave and got the worst food poisoning weve ever had in our lives, all for 130 bucks.
They don t detail the pricing, service is decent, paid $300 for a meal for two, average food at best for that price. Overall a bad experience with no idea what you ll pay at the end. I would avoid this place.
I took my mom to their Mothers Day Brunch and it exceeded all expectations! The Westlake Grill is the hidden gem of Red Deer. Whether youre going on a romantic date night, lunch with your girlfriends, or brunch with your mom, it is always the perfect place to pick. The staff is so kind and will go above and beyond to make sure you have the most amazing experience. The food is absolutely delectable! The flavors they pair and the quality of every dish is incomparable. To top it all off, its set on the edge of a tranquil wooded area which leaves you gazing at the most beautiful scenery during your meal. It also gives you a dreamy after meal experience when you take a walk down the trails or go to say hello to the horses. I always leave there feeling like I just fell out of a fairytale.
Great food and atmosphere at a great location at Heritage Ranch in Red Deer
Food is different which is always nice, and it tastes good. Alcohol of various kinds including on tap beer. I love sitting out on the balcony Listening to the birds.
It was our first visit. Service was amazing and dinner was such a treat! After we left I went on and on how amazing it was. Very romantic at sunset! We will 1000% be back!
Booked Valentines dinner here, the food, the service, the experience was completely 5 star,
We love the high quality food. Best food ever! Great atmosphere and kid friendly Weve been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and its one of our most favorite spots! Kid-friendliness: Drawing sheets and friendly staff!
Were enjoying all drinks and food, will defenetly come back
Went for Valentines Day dinner, and the food was definitely good but both the entree and dessert were missing ingredients from the menu with no mention of it until after it was already at the table. For the price point just kind of figured there would have been more accuracy
We have stopped here many times as its a half way spot to meet with family. Weve always been pleased with the food and service. Its a quiet cosy spot for a visit. In the summer if we have time we add a walk through the connecting trails.
Delicious food! Romantic atmosphere with lights and heart-shaped bowls and tables for two. My wife and I were served by a friendly and attentive waitress and enjoyed a splendid date night here.
Another amazing meal for the 2 of us! Great venue, great atmosphere, amazing food! The pork and duck were top shelf! Wait staff Kristin and Julia were great Parking: Awesome
Went for a Valentine s Day dinner with the wife tonight and left without eating. Server had forgotten appetizers, left us sitting for close to an hour before serving overcooked, unflavoured cold entrees. Will not be going back for another try. Thoroughly disappointed. The Ranch House got us sorted out though! 5/5
Went specifically for Valentine s Day- the 5 course meal. It was $189 per person and decided to go out for a nice dinner. First appetizer wasn t even the size of my finger nail, second appetizer was one scallop each, the soup was okay- but nothing special about a tomato soup, the entree we got was waygu- most of it was cartilage or fat and you got one carrot, one piece of cauliflower with it, and a spring roll with potato in it. Dessert was a small cake smaller than my child size hands. Speaking to other customers they got missed in order and waited longer than other couples that came after. Also, wouldn t advise to go unless you like to sit less than 1 ft away from the other tables. I don t usually leave any reviews, but was expecting way more for $189 a person.
Very very disappointed
Great service, but the steak was a bit disappointing. Not bad but for the price, I expected a little better. The duck dish someone else had looked pretty interesting and he said its good.
The only good thing about our experience was our server. The food was very disappointing ( tenderloin was tough and the pork tomahawk had no flavour). The price was outrageous for portion and quality. This is not a good date night experience for red deer anymore
Ok food and dining experience. Definitely not worth the price.
We attended a murder mystery here last night and I can t stop raving about how great Ryan was!! We were not an easy group and he handled us with such grace and attentiveness! My glass was never empty, the food was great, definitely loved the experience. Thanks Ryan!!
Food is great. Service is pretty good if you can get in. I called on Mothers Day morning, to see if they were taking walk ins (because most places do, but with it being mothers day, and we were riding our bikes there, I wanted to be sure wed get in.) They assured me on the phone that yes, they were taking walk ins, but were completely booked as far as reservations go, also that there might be a bit of a longer wait for a table if we walked in. Totally understandable. So, we all jumped on our bikes and rode there for breakfast. When we got there we locked our bikes up around back and saw that the patio was completely empty, of the 10 or so tables back there, there was one being used. When we came inside to put our name down to wait for a table, the server or hostess or whomever it was, told us they were not taking walk ins and were completely booked. I said I called and confirmed that they were taking walk ins, otherwise we would not have ridden our bikes all the way there. They said sorry, nothing we can do. I pointed out that the patio was completely empty and they said were not taking any walk ins. Were fully booked with reservations. We had to bike somewhere else. Absolute garbage customer service. They made the mistake, they should fix it. But they didnt even try. Just so disappointing, this place used to be great, but after this experience, I cant really justify coming back or recommending it. Theres lots of other great dining options in Red Deer now, and more opening every day, I recommend taking your money somewhere that treats there customers with a little bit of respect and is willing to fix their mistakes.
I went to this establishment yesterday evening hoping to receive a wonderful experience. My girlfriend and I were seated on the upper level in a corner secluded from other people. The waitress barely checked on us, it felt like we were forgotten. We managed to get some drinks, but we waited around 45-50 minutes to get our food, and it wasn t very warm when it arrived. On my Rib eye that I ordered, it had about 4 ounces of fat out of the 15 ounces you re supposed to get. My girlfriend did enjoy the duck breast. Overall I wasn t completely satisfied with the experience.
400 dollar bill after sending both steaks back for being over cooked. Server was a gem and was extremely polite and awesome but the food was lack luster for the cost. Bland and definitely not worth the money spent.
Had a really awesome experience here for my girlfriends birthday. The service was 12/10. I had never had a waitress as awesome as ours was (I wish I could remember her name). The food was really amazing too. The price tag is pretty high but I would honestly say it was worth it for the service alone. Food
Best service Ive ever had! Delicious local food too!
Maybe the best omelette I have ever eaten.
Nice location, interesting food & beverage menus. Quite pricey. I gave it four stars because the restaurant washrooms need to be better maintained. The womens one felt like an unkept gas station washroom, and a few other things in the restaurant, like doors and handles, seemed dirty to touch. These are easy fixes and hopefully they can be improved to match the rest of the restaurants quality.
Was a great place to have lunch. Staff is friendly. Food was okay. Dietary restrictions: They seem like they will do whatever they have to do to get you a vegetarian meal. Parking: Id guess about 20 spots 30 spots but theyre shared with the visitors of the ranch Kid-friendliness: I seen kids there so must be kid friendly
Missing the old menu. The hamburger was the best in town. Would love to see it come back.
Mixed review here. The parking lot is an odd drive thru style. We had to park quite a distance away and walk. The server was friendly, and well spoken. She was explaining the menu, which was confusing. She advised the meal would come out in courses as it s cooked in the kitchen. She advised the meals were meant to be shareable. The meal prices average about $70, up to almost $110. For this price, and based on what the server had said about shareable meals, I was expecting the meal to be large enough for 2 people. The meal arrived, and I was extremely disappointed. There was a very very small amount of carrot purée under one piece of meat, and another tiny tiny amount of purée under another piece. We also had potatoes on the side. The meat was cooked exactly how we ordered, and was seasoned perfectly. The meal did taste very good. Reading the reviews from other patrons, I was expecting top notch, amazing service and an amazing meal. This was simply not the case. The serving staff was good, except the beer I ordered I would have expected them to pour it. They gave me a glass with a can, to pour myself. The décor was dated, chairs and tables were quite small. I felt like we were put upstairs and forgot about. I recommend this restaurant based on the quality of the food, but I also do not recommend them based on the portions, lack of vegetables, and extreme overpriced menu. I probably would not eat here again just for those reasons.
Great location dog friendly patio
Food not worth the money, sorry. We had a very good service , food is ok but nothing special and way overpriced. I do not recomend, sorry. There are far better restaurants i Red Deer and cheaper too.
Always a big fan of the Alix Chips. Such an amazing atmosphere here and the fall colours just add to it.
We went for Thanksgiving dinner. The menu advertised on line was not what we received. The soup and main entries were all cold. There was only white turkey available and it was dry and tasteless. The dessert was supposed to be cheesecake but it was pie. The pie was very good. Our waitress was pleasant but was the only waitress working and could not possibly handle all the tables. We waited 40 minutes between main course and dessert and eventually had to flag the manager down to ask for dessert. The window we were sitting by was so dirty it made the outside view appear fuzzy. Our meals were the outrageous price of 84.00/plate. All in all, it was an awful experience for all 4 patrons.
Over all good food and good experience But NOT worth the Prices they charge. Visit other location with 5 minutes either way and get great food and reasonable price. As they are NOT worth $180.00 for a Five coarse meal for 2. CRAZY PRICES Food : 2/5
Really terrible over priced food. Won t be back. Suppose to be good but didn t make the cut unfortunately. Wouldn t waste my time with this place again. Two failed attempts at making it right. Not sure how they do business with service like that.
Wonderful halfway spot to meet a friend from Edmonton for brunch or just to come for a day trip. The restaurant is cozy with nice views of the park outside, the food is very good and the portions are extremely generous. The bonus is that the Heritage Ranch is a lovely place to go for a walk after eating!
Weve been here many times before but this experience was truly terrible. This restaurant is absolutely beautiful but the service, menus and food needs attention. A friend and I booked a reservation for brunch. Our server was attentive at first however we took a while to order and the service went downhill from there. At the beginning, we received the brunch menu. There is only 4 options available and none of them are allergen friendly. We then asked the server for a lunch menu, which we had to request more than once to get. When it did finally come we found it totally overwhelming. The menu lists a bunch of ingredients for each item without clearly identifying what the item actually is (same for the brunch). One of the items was an omelette that didnt even mention eggs. We had to ask the server to clarify what it was. The menu would be much better if it was clearly defined. I am not able to eat eggs so I asked if the pancakes had eggs or if I could get them made without. The server acted appalled that I would suggest they dont make the pancakes from scratch. They werent able to accommodate me for the pancakes. Unfortunately all other items on the breakfast menu had eggs. I then asked about the burger and was told its made fresh and has eggs as a binder for the meat, they couldnt accommodate this either (or the server wasnt willing to try). I then asked about the French onion soup, which was listed on the menu but I was told this was a special and it wasnt available today. I pretty much gave up at this point. The server never tried to offer any sort of solution. It was truly disappointing. I know allergens can be difficult and I try to be super flexible when I go out to eat but this was just terrible. I could have had a 40 or 50 dollar steak for brunch but that wasnt something I wanted at 11am. I have been here many times before and have never had a problem finding something to eat. So this place has changed and not for the better.... After all of this, we were asked to pay so the server could leave. I dont mind paying so a server can go off shift but itd be nice if it was done in a friendly and professional manner. We were treated as of we had worn out our welcome. Its too bad to see such a historical place go this way, especially when Red Deer has few high end dining experiences. Sadly, I dont see a situation in which I would return again. Dietary restrictions: Limited options for those with allergies.
Saturday afternoon around 2 pm....not another group to be found in the restaurant. Was seated promptly, but I was able to hit the washroom and answer 3 emails before the waitress came to even introduce herself. Order just water and was ready to order food as well. Ordered a salad, and she said thats it? Ummmm, yeah, was I supposed to be ordering more? Meal came quick enough, but she didnt refill my water and then disappeared for the next hour...not kidding. Parched from lack of water, looking around with our plates on the table wondering if anyone worked here anymore, she finally came. Took plates and asked if we wanted dessert. I said just the bills, please, and she was quick with them. Now, this is the weird part...I paid and left no tip, neither did my friend. She asked if I was ok, ahhh yeah, I just wanted to leave after being here for 2 hours to have no water and a salad!! Then I asked if she did something wrong, so I told her... we had no service, like none. She said she got busy, and I assumed the downstairs got busy, but nope. Not a single soul down there as we walked out. She 100% forgot about us. Will not return for that reason...and my friend had goodish meal but bad service trumped that. On top of that, they play horrendously loud country music, like obnoxious and hard to have conversations. Zero stars if I could for atmosphere, service, and 2 stars for the $17 salad made with 1% cranberries and 1% feta/pear and 98% lettuce. Bravo on the markup *edit for the response of Manager. Nice to be blaming bad service on a few places I have reviewed on my account on me, the customer, adding that I should seek out management on site with the problem? Im the trend? How about the trend is that some restaurants have bad service and high prices on low quality food!! I shouldnt have to go looking for management after being ignored by your staff. The gentleman working behind the bar and the lady at the front hostess desk were both miserable looking to us as we headed out. We just wanted to leave a bad place behind us and then a bad review because people deserve to know. Thats why google reviews exist. Try to better next time, and not blame the customer. The trend according to some of your reviews is bad food and poor service... the good reviews are the lucky ones. Oh, and incredibly shamless advertising your change of decor on my review and that people should come in. I expect good service, quality food for the high price of food these days, and to not be forced to eat ice cubes because my friend and I were dying of thirst.
Yall already know food and ambiance is amazing here. What s even better is when there are amazing staff/servers. Daisy. Ask to book with her as your server folks. She said she s in a t 4pm daily. Food : 5/5
Its a great place for many occasions: family, workshops, tourist attractions, horse riding, and nature lovers.
Loved everything about it! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Weve had our work Christmas parties 2 years in a row and they deliver every time! Food
While walking the chilly 5k route around Heritage Ranch, serendipity proved our appetites greatest ally! We entered to the melodic roughness of Hank Williams Jr and he escorted us to our awesome window seat! Great atmosphere; phenomenal food and great service!
Amazing atmosphere, great delicious foods, oh those potatoes are the and omelet are the best, service was great, I really loved everything about this place, cozy, and private, best place for dates nights, I will return for sure,
If your into 80$ steak night per person and not even expence mind blowing flavors and starting at 50$ for a bottle wine... the atmosphere isnt worth the expensive prices... take your money to earls or keg... spend half and get double flavor.
Food was great, atmosphere was nice and quiet. Would go back for sure.
Best food in Red Deer! also most expensive!
The food was delicious and presented very well. My kids are picky but they loved the desserts. Great first impression and the service was excellent.
Delicious as always. Great hidden jem for all functions. FYI, there are horses there, but they dont help in the kitchen.
West lake Grill is always one of my favourite places to go to. Good, drinks and atmosphere is top notch!
The old and service was amazing!
Worst brunch in the history of brunches!!!
Decadent Sunday brunch in a great environment overlooking the hiking trails. We had the Atlantic Lobster and Bacon Omelette with smashed potatoes - sooo delicious! The portions were big and I boxed 1/2 to take home. They also had mimosa s with mini bottles of Prosecco to go with- great presentation. We will be back!
The food and atmosphere is great. We had brunch on Sunday and enjoyed the food service and live music.
I made reservations for six in the the beginning and had to adjust the time and number of guests to nine subsequent to the initial reservation. The restaurant was very accommodating to adjust our request. However, the seating available was for outdoors only without any heat lamps. It was a little uncomfortable with regard to the cooler temperatures. The menu selection was limited as one third of our party ordered the Bison ribs only to find out after the order was placed that the kitchen advised our server they were not available. The wine list was limited when it came to ordering by the glass. One of the guests ordered the Sea Bass that arrived uncooked in the middle and after sending it back she never received her substitute order until everyone had finished eating. Presentation was tasteful but the value did not meet our expectation. One would expect a restaurant of this caliber to set their standards slightly higher. I cannot sincerely recommend this establishment to anyone.
Went on the weekend with my family of 9 . Ordered the Ribeye and was overcooked . Ordered it Med Rare and was well done . Wife ordered the Sea Bass and it was frozen in the middle . They tried to do right and bring her a new one but unfortunately everyone was done there meal and ready to go by the time it came . Service was good but wasnt impressed for the price .
Awesome food and service. Great western experience right in Red Deer.
One of the nicer places to go in red deer. Makes for a good date but can be a little expensive.
The food was delicious The place needs an update Hated dealing with and seeing all the crackheads hanging around
I hope we just visited on an off-day because unfortunately our experience wasnt like the other reviewers. I really enjoyed the restaurant itself and location but the price of food vs quality really suffered. 3/4 of our mains were very overcooked, including both steaks which we paid $80 each for and the duck. We wouldve returned the steaks to recook but we rarely saw our server and it took quite a while to receive the first steak attempts. Id think if youre going to charge that much for a steak, you have to make sure its the best thing on the menu. Overall our dinner took ~3hrs from door to door.
Always great!
That was quite honestly the most disgusting restaurant I ve ever been to. The tables surrounding us were covered in months of built up dust and spider webs. Our food took an hour to arrive. To give them the benefit of the doubt, we did come as a big group so that is probably the reason the food took so long. However, after the waitress took our order, we did not see her check up on us in that hour that we waited. When the food finally came, there was a long piece of hair entangled within the food and not once did they apologize for this mistake. They compensated the food and took it out of the bill, but that was it. Our bill was still massively overpriced for the quality of food that we received. We also ate outside on the patio right beside the horse carriages. Needless to say, our table was infested with flies as a result of being so near the horse area and it didn t smell all that appetizing with the lingering smell of horse. If you re looking for a restaurant to eat in, I would skip this one.
The place is amazing! We stumbled upon this restaurant as we were driving through Red Deer. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was great! It s also well priced. It has a nice rustic and unique feel to it. We will most definitely be back!
Great food thought Id try something different, only thing is that it was a first date, so first impressions are everything, and she found a caterpillar in her salad so ya wont be my first choice for a restaurant anytime soon, they did take the salad off the bill which was decent
I went here for some breakfast and ordered there thanksgiving brunch for our supper tonight , when i got home i was extremely disappointed in the insanely small portion of food for the price i paid , for 3 breakfasts and 4 thanks giving lunches was just over 215$ the lunches were about 130$ for the 4 . This is very unfair pricing for the quantity of food u get . Even my breakfast sausage was tiny and only a very few potatoes. And my sons waffle on a stick were so over cooked they were way too hard for him to even bite them or eat them . I even felt like i was eating dried up old bread I love heritage ranch and the pony rides for my son . How ever this was the first and will be the last time i eat here due to the low quantity and quality of the food especially for the high prices . I do plan to speak to a manager about this asap Lighter in pic for showing size
We stopped at Westlake Grill at the Hudson Ranch by Red Deer. What a gem! Lovely setting to start and amazing food. Fresh flavours, well seasoned food. I had the wild mushroom omelette. Portion size is large. I ll have enough for breakfast tomorrow. Served with whole-wheat toast and homemade Saskatoon preserves. YUM! And smashed Yukon gold potatoes which were a reasonable potion and not half the dish. We ll come again on our way through.
I was so excited to come eat here, but left extremely shocked and unpleased. They told us we could order from the lunch menu and from the appetizers of the dinner menu. We wanted to order 4 appetizers, but then the chef apparently said that he has a table of 18 people coming in and he couldnt serve us appetizers, only lunch menu. This is extremely pitiful for a restaurant trying to convey a certain image, and I have never heard of a chef being that unorganised that he couldnt serve a table of 2 correctly because he has a table of 18 coming in. It seemed to me that it was just out of laziness. And we didnt even get a compensation for his deplorable act of unprofessionalism. I do want to note that the service was very good, and the food okay.
This place is amazing! The food is some of the best Ive ever had. The atmosphere is not like any other place Ive been.
It was a very nice restaurant, good food and atmosphere. The service was excellent!!
What a gem in Red Deer! Great food and cozy atmosphere. Service was also top notch. Highly recommended. Even grabbed some jam and coffee on the way out!
Very expensive and bad service. Bad food bad all around
Every single meal here has been amazing, great staff and beautiful setting
One of the best dates night places in Red Deer. Have never been disappointed!!
Amazing food and honest Service. Went for the first time to West Lake Grill tonight and our server was Pam and she was absolutely amazing! and recieved such great service from her. The food and drinks were amazing and well worth the price. Pam let us know that the beef might have been a little fatty and insured us that if it wasnt up to our standards that it would have been covered, the honestly was well worth the service. She did everything to make sure our service was fun and comfortable for the group I came in with. The chef Chelsea even came out to insure all food was up to our standards and even recommended meals which were best in house. Very much much reccomend this establishment and hope that pam and Chelsea get the acknowledgement they truly deserve. Will defianlty be back!
The best place I have been in Red Deer. Its in an amazing location. Lovely tasting food beautifully presented and served by very friendly.proffesional staff I would give it a 11 out of 10 We will be back and tell all our friends
Amazing new menu! Try the Bison burger with fried Bannock - oh my gosh, sooooo good - bring your appetite as it s very filling and tasty!!! Patio is open!
The sasquatch hunt is excellent! Wear good shoes! The food and service are amazing! Try the brisket and Bannock! Only complaint is not enough heat from the radiant lights and nothing to zap the bugs. We will return!
Great way to start a Saturday morning! Great food and huge portions! #supportlocal
Great service from Pam, food was tasty and timely.
Chef was super awsome, very accommodating, pricey but still very good.
Love this place, foods awesome and pet friendly, views are great, staff are nice and professional and an all round good vibe.
Wonderful food, elegantly and originally prepared and served. Excellent service and enchanting ambiance. Worth the stop and worth returning! Memorable experience!
Great food, wonderful drinks, excellent scenery! Would recommend anytime.
The atmosphere, location, and drinks were all excellent. Want to go back when I have the time and appetite to try a burger or entrée!
Great food. Beautiful setting
Pam is an A+ human being and server!! The food was creative, fantastic and filling!! Thanks for a great birthday dinner!!
We celebrated our daughter s grade 12 graduation last weekend in the Heritage room and adjoining covered deck. WHAT AN AMAZING venue, high quality food, and excellent service from first contact to planning this family event through to the end of our night. Five+++ stars really. Thank you Westlake Grill for a truly special and top notch experience.
We had the best lunch ever today! I had the veg and Brie panini (heavenly) with their homemade chips and my friend had the sliders. Yum! Best service in the world and the patio was set up for good distancing and an amazing view of green space. I got to have a great visit with an old friend in a great setting. Perfect. Thank you!
Delicious food here and its so nice to be around the horses on a nice day and enjoy a lunch. Havent tried the dinner menu but im sure its fabulous.
Ask who will be serving your table before you go.... If it is a tall, slender, blonde woman, do not waste your time or $$. Three girlfriends and myself drove up to Red Deer the night before a bachelorette so that we could catch up prior to the weekend festivities. We were looking to have a couple drinks and some good food with a beautiful backdrop. We figured this looked like the perfect spot. However, our waitress made it very clear from the start that she did not want us there. I think we might have had the quickest in and out time because the whole experience was so unbelievably uncomfortable and we just wanted to get out as fast as possible. We werent rowdy or loud or anything along those lines. We were simply there to catch up. I was also a waitress for many years so I am always hypersensitive to the servers situation and always make sure the group I am with is respectful and kind. It is really too bad because the rest of the staff was so lovely and I am positive we would have had a much better experience if someone else was waiting on us. Drinks were ok, food was good, the scenery/views were stunning but the service was awful. Definitely started our weekend on a sour note.
The ambience, food, and service is second to none. No place quite like it in Red Deer. You owe it to yourself to try it out. And once you do gautenteed youll be back.
Great service, wonderful meal. The Havarti BLT was amazing and way too much! I cant believe I ate the whole thing!
Amazing food.
Very interesting location with beautiful natural habitat all around. Staff are extremely friendly. We went there for Mother s Day brunch and were the only ones there (during time of covid and right before restaurants were about to close). Our server started a outdoor fire pit for us and we were provided with blankets for the chilly weather. They have hammock chairs to relax in around the restaurant. Food was good. Want to go back there to try the regular items on the menu next time!
The Westlake Grill has some of the best food available in Red Deer paired with great service and a warm, relaxing, and romantic atmosphere. We love the local meats and produce on the menu, along with the unique and delicious desserts. (If Yak is on the chefs special, get it!!!)
Great service
Friendly staff, the food was delicious. I had the bison burger on Bannock.
This is a really nice place to eat with an excellent ambience. Set in the trees and great spot to take a date. The menu has a good selection of traditional steak house items with some bison and lamb choices as well. Menu prices are on the high side, in fact, the highest I have seen in Red Deer for any type of cuisine. We were a group of 9 or so for a business dinner. Everything was just okay. Nobody at the table was super impressed with either the appetizers or mains. I had the bacon wrapped bison tenderloin which was luke warm, overcooked and expected more from a $70+ plate. This was my second visit. My first was a date and I recall it being better. Even though we were the only table in the restaurant at times, maybe the staff was short for dealing with a table of 9 all at once. Probably give them another shot some day
I had a the bison rib eye for 79$. Was only okay. Nothing amazing. Bison was cooked uneven (half was medium well-done and the other half was rare) and tasted like curry (not in good way). Potatoes are deep fried, the taste of old vegetable oil and overly salted wasnt a good experience. Carrots were borderline undercooked and the asparagus were bitter. I would say same quality as any casual dinning (earls, moxy) but double the price. Would not call it fine dinning.
Great restaurant!
Here for a birthday supper, incredible appetizers, main course, wine, desert and coffee. Just come and enjoy it already!
Great food, worth the price
This is by far the best restaurant experience in Red Deer. Expect to spend an amount commensurate with the quality of the food and service.
If I could give it negative stars I would. I would never in a million years recommend spending any amount of money here. Horrible experience
Would be 4.5 if we could mark it that way. Nice room and a pleasant view. The food was good and the service excellent.
The restaurant was country classic and decorated nicely. The food was tasty but our server, Ally made our experience less than satisfying. She s a nice, but less than attentive. It took ten mins to get our drinks .At one point, we were the only table in the restaurant and she never came to check up on us after she dropped off our food. We waited for her to come back and eventually just got up to collect the tab. I won t be back based on this.
Would recomend the food is fancy and taste good , other than all their lettus is nasty , also there coctaiks are discustingly made . Look fancy but thats about it cause they taste gross i couldnt even eat my meal cause my cesar made me wanna throw up bad job guys
The service was wonderful. The appetizers were delicious we had the tomato and cheese, and the Charcuterie. Our entrees however were a bit disappointing. The brisket bordered on a burnt flavor but was good and the mushroom ravioli was a huge perogy type creation that was crisp in spots and mushy dough in others, the tomato sauce was similar to tomato soup with onion and green pepper with funions on top. It was nothing like mushroom ravioli in my opinion I was every disappointed. The dessert was a chocolate mousse creation that was to die for.
Having never been before we werent entirely sure where we were going, but once you find the place it is totally worth it! The atmosphere is very nice and relaxed with a touch of fine dining. The staff was very friendly, and the food was delicious. I would recommend the ginger carrot soup and the lobster avocado flatbread. Very unique! I love the farm to table idea and I love the food here. Service is always excellent. Everything I have tried here has been amazing.
Our first date night in three months due to covid improved from a rocky start. I called in the afternoon to make a reservation after checking the menu online. We arrived for our reservation and were told they have a special table for us. They escorted us to the table and as the waiter was leaving, I looked around and saw the other three tables in the room had nice white tablecloths on them. Since the waiter did not give us any instructions about the menu on the table, we proceeded to read it. The menu listed a four course meal which sounded very nice but had no prices. The waiter returned and I asked him why we did not have a tablecloth on our table. He said we just put them on the special tables by the windows. I thought we had a special table but obviously not. I also asked him if the menu on the table was the only meal they were serving that evening and why there were no prices listed. He continued to tell us that it was $125.00 for that meal per person but he could get us another menu if we preferred. We chose to get the other menu and ordered our meal. We were able to relocate to the next available table with a tablecloth and enjoyed the cheese tray, elk burger and fish and chips. The food was good and we enjoyed the rest of our evening.
The atmosphere is perfect for date nights! The room we were sat down in had the perfect decor and music to enjoy a romantic dinner with. The food was delicious, and the staff were super friendly while handling cleanliness and social distancing beautifully. I felt perfectly comfortable during the experience and left feeling full, happy, and still as healthy as when I got there ;). I even left with a bag of local coffee beans! Highly recommend for your next date night.
Best food and drinks in town.
We had a great meal. Fantastic evening.
This was such a nice escape from the busy city but its in the city! As soon as I was in the property I could feel my stress melting. I love all the trees and trails. Their restaurant is top notch and was perfect for our celebration. I left so satisfied. Highly recommended.
LOVE this place. Food and service are by far the best in Red Deer. Creative meals with local ingredients make this place a foodies dream! Always highly recommend
Best food and wine. Beautiful place for a couple or a dating night. I had a wonderful time here. The scenery surrounded is so nice. If you time, you and your partner can explore the waking trail, etc. You need to have a GPS to get there if you come from different city. Good memories!
This was my first time here. Atmosphere is really nice, friendly staff, music at a perfect level. However we may have just come on an off night as 4 tables around us sent steaks back and when I received my med rare ribeye it was also not cooked that well. Very tough to chew. And the weird part half was over cooked and the other half was almost raw and cold. Just dont think the cost of the ribeye is worth the badly cooked meat and the very little side dish. But like I said could be a rough night. My wife was very satisfied with her beef tenderloin. She said it was cooked perfectly and tasted great.
Absolutely fantastic! Great staff and food!
Have driven by this place for years and did not know what all they have there. The restaurant is set at the back and the food was fabulous. The staff was friendly and attentive. There is outside dining as well. The setting is beautiful, up from the river with a stable and carriage rides and a lots of trails.
Its a hidden gem in Red Deer. The Thanksgiving brunch that they had is amazing.
Lovely little brunch stop. The food was fantastic
We had a fantastic experience here. The food is very good and the service was spot on.
Quality continues to decline at this place we won t be back.
Wonderfully tasty food in a unique country setting!
Very expensive food, disappointing results
So apparently reservations dont mean anything at this place. Not a single apology, not a single explanation as to why OUR room booked a week earlier was given away to someone else for their event. Using miscommunication as an excuse, they simply told us theres nothing they can do. Not coming here again.
Amazing place, amazing food!!!
I give five stars, because every single time I have been to Heritage Ranch, we have been treated with the best service with the best servers, and the food is amazing! My fiancé and I have been there several times within the last year, and have nothing but nice things to say! The other amazing thing, is that the staff is always the same! It s always nice to see a familiar face!
Brisket at brunch drew raves but the Petron coffee liqueur sauce that goes with it was bitter and acrid (today anyway). Service was good. Dessert buffet had Saskatoon berry pie that everyone loved.Heritage Ranch is a fantastic spot for a family outing, too.
The old menu was better
Very high quality food
This was delicious! There were 6 of us and we all finished our meals. Their homemade potato chips were delicious, 2 of us had burgers (not the bison, but next time for sure), another had a pork tenderloin, another had a steak and risotto, another had the mushroom ravioli, another had the grilled cheese and I had the Beet watermelon salad (in the picture). Everything looked so delicious and the taste...did not disappoint. The atmosphere of the restaurant, the setting of Heritage Ranch, its so serene, there is something for everyone out here!
Such a treat to come here! The food is fabulous, drinks are delicious, atmosphere is homey with a bit of rustic class, its wheelchair accessible, theres a dog friendly patio, lots of seating to accommodate a function to a private date for two (quiet atmosphere included). Staff is very welcoming right when you enter and are super friendly and polite. Menu is pricey but it is SO worth it!! I recommend coming here for a special occasion or for a much needed peaceful get away from the hustle bustle.
Great food and beverages. Stopped in while passing through Red Deer, great location with an awesome view. I recommend the patio.
Breakfast is my favourite meal, and this is one of my favourite places to get it. I especially like going here to celebrate special occasions.
Our favorite place for wine and wings
Best food in red deer. Its pricey, but you get what you pay for.
We came here because of the dog friendly patio. Went for a beautiful walk down to the river and then lunch. The food was excellent as well as the service. I dont mind paying a little more for good local food. Had a nice selection of local craft beer and the sangria was delicious. The seating on the dog friendly side is not as comfortable as the rest of the patio but I will definitely be coming back a lot.
Very unique food! The scenery is also an added bonus!
Great Thanksgiving brunch! Great service!
My Husband and I went out tonight for Thanksgiving dinner and it was fantastic. Wonderful service and the meal was excellent. Good job!!!
With out a doubt the best dining experience Ive had in Reddeer. The restaurant is split into sections one for groups and a quiet seperate area for table of 2. The menu was of good sizes and right away made apparent that the food was high quality and for the most part locally sourced. I had the chefs plate for the evening it was AMAZING. It consisted of a 16oz steak infused with bourbon and red ale sous vide cooked to perfection and grilled to add the lovely smoky flavor. My companion had a steak wrapped in bacon accompanied by a great lobster risotto it was superb, both meals had a side of fresh local veggies. The staff were outstanding and waited on us hand and foot, they were pleasant and had a great command of the menu. They served us an edible flower to start and it was very unique and tasty. I will definitely be back to enjoy another meal here.
The food is good but not the food that creates memories. For the prices they charge the food should be memorable. I feel everything there has the for Red Deer badge. Which it shouldn t.
The atmosphere is serene, beautiful and peaceful. The food is very well worth the money. You dont feel rushed like most restaurants. Very welcoming, and highly recommended. (Was booked for a event so had additional things added to the table, ).
As always excellent.
AMAZING Food , atmosphere and service as always!!!!! :)
Excellent Service and very tasty food. Went for a sleigh ride and it was beautiful with all the Christmas lights. Beautiful evening at Heritage Park Westlake Grill.
