We serve high quality brunch and specialty coffee dedicated to Richmond Hill Community
I love their Eggs Benedict. Crispy potatoes with a side of salad. Just the right amount! Also got the French Toast and a matcha latte. Delicious! It can get busy so join their waitlist.
Steak and eggs 5/5 steak was soft, toast a bit dry duck confit 5/5 good duck flavour, sprouts nice and fresh pancakes 5/5 needs extra condensed milk but very fluffy and eggy and compote was fresh and tart Hojicha latte 2/5 not enough hojicha flavour, too sweet not enough coffee taste, good presentation however Ambiance was clean, enough space and good attentive service gave some franks hot sauce nothing special Staple brunch spot that delivers on food and vibes
It was relatively nice inside although extremely crowded which was heightened by the small size of the restaurant. The customer service was alright, nothing extraordinary. They brought me a dirty water cup and I only noticed after I had already taken a sip which threw me off because that’s really gross lol. As for the food, it was quite good (especially the matcha latte!) although the scrambled egg and sausage sandwich I ordered had way too much pepper in it. Evidently it was edible but I would not order it again, they definitely need to change how they season/prepare the sausage. Overall it’s a decent brunch place.
The coffee is good. We ordered the Shrimp Benny and Spinach pasta. I would say they are more of the Asia Italian fusion, low fat and low sugar and very delicious. Highly recommended! Staff are knowledgeable and make you feel comfortable there!
Visited during brunch for the first time and got the pancakes and sausage benny. Both were delicious, but I especially enjoyed the potatoes which were perfectly crispy on the outside yet silky and smooth on the inside. The sausage patties were ok, if a bit on the larger side. I also thought their hojicha latte was good. This location seems to have better, more comfortable seating too, which was nice.
This was my first time here, and I wasn’t expecting much. I was just super hungry and needed something to eat. But wow, I was blown away! I ordered the Salmon Benny, and it was beyond amazing!!! definitely an 11/10! The coffee was spot-on too, just the way I like it. I’m already looking forward to coming back regularly. This place has definitely earned a spot on my list of favorites!
What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said - it has great food and a nice vibe! We had a cappuccino, cold matcha latte, duck & waffles + the salmon benny! 🔥 The duck was juicy, the waffles had a hint of cinnamon, and together they were delicious when adding the hot sauce and syrup. The slamon benny was very savoury with potatoes that almost stole the show! The drinks were tasty too 🙂. If you're looking for a great brunch vibe with flavour - give this spot a try! 🤤
Price point is reasonable for brunch in the area. However, the food itself is not bad but is not great. Potatoes lack a bit of flavoring and crunch. The sourdough bread is tasteful, the flatiron steak and eggs was cooked to raw by default as the server did not ask how I would like it cooked.
Really good coffee and food! This locations is more spacious than the Markham location but it s as good
Coming to Alchemy, I was expecting standard and good brunch food. But wow it was certainly more than that. The service provided by the young lady working there made my dining experience more than a meal; it was a delight. Definitely looking forward to coming again if she s working!
As an individual that loves eating out, one expects a certain level of professionalism when dining out, particularly when a reservation or waitlist system is involved. I used Yelp s waitlist feature, arriving promptly within the designated window after being notified my table was ready. However, upon entering the restaurant, I was informed there were no tables available and would need to wait. There was no apology and no explanation as to why my table was not ready. This begs the question: what is the purpose of activating a waitlist feature if it does not correspond to actual table availability? After three tables became available a table for four and two tables for two the staff, consisting of three members, appeared to disregard the fact that we were the only ones still waiting by the door. Instead of seating us, they focused on cleaning the table for four, even though both tables for two were already cleared. It s unclear whether this was due to negligence, a lack of awareness, or a complete disregard for customer service, but it certainly felt like they prioritized leaving us standing at the door over promptly seating us at the available tables. The disorganization left us with a sour impression and a feeling that our time was completely disregarded. The management of this franchise should seriously reevaluate the staff they have at this location. The poor quality of service detracts significantly from the dining experience, overshadowing the food no matter how good it might be.
The food looks great and tastes very good.
Great great food. The eggs benny and the pancakes were everything. Everything was well done and well seasoned! Great experience
Service is good. The food came fast, but one thing that stuck out for me. Was One of the waitress who was positive and just had a good vibe, I would definitely recommend this place 10 out of 10
Waitress ate
My wife and I rarely get to enjoy brunch out, and we were excited to visit Alchemy with our two young toddlers after a previously positive experience. Unfortunately, our recent visit was a huge letdown, mostly due to their abysmal service. Right from the start, we should have seen the warning signs. There were multiple tables waiting to be cleared and three groups waiting to be seated. It took 15 minutes just to get a table, even though there were empty, yet uncleared tables available. The wait didnt end there. After placing our order, it took 30 minutes just to get water, and another 15 minutes before they realized their ordering system wasn t even working. To make matters worse, we noticed another table next to us waiting for their food, only to be told they had to place their order again. I can definitely feel their frustration. The tall waiter with glasses was hardly apologetic, simply brushing it off with a casual shrug as if our time and experience didn t matter. We ultimately decided to leave because we couldn t bear waiting another 30 minutes (or more) for our food to arrive. I completely understand the challenges of being understaffed, and clearly, they need to bring in more staff as there were only two people between taking orders and making drinks. However, the lack of attentiveness and customer care made this an incredibly frustrating experience. Alchemy REALLY needs to step up its service standards. This experience was unfortunately enough to make us reconsider returning.
Love the atmosphere! The food is great too. Love the presentation of then Only thing is that the restaurant is so busy that we were ignored for at least 5-7 mins until a staff finally acknowledged us to give us a place to sit Other than that, I would definitely come back
Great good. Small place do you will have to wait to for down and can get loud
Decent food, service a little disorganized. Came here with my friends for brunch. After all my friends got food, I watched the server served my food to another table (the reason I knew: the other table has 2 people, and their 2nd dish wasnt served until more than 5 mins later). I asked the server and they cooked again for me but didnt apologize for the fact that I had to wait for extra time for my food. Moreover, they dont take credit cards, which is a little surprising considering the price of the food here.
Cozy nice spot to have breakfast!
Wow! Sometimes restaurants open a second location and we find the food is not as good. We did not find this to be the case - everything was on point! We highly recommend the pork belly breakfast - it is outstanding! The coffee is very good. At this location the atmosphere/decor is a big step up from their original Markham location - super cool, well thought out. I wish I still lived in Richmond Hill so we could go for breakfast there every week.
It was my first time to eat here with my friends. I ordered the duckbenny. My friend ordered the salmon Benny. It was delicious beyond imagination. Highly recommended.
Worth the price.
cafe and restaurant
Second location, still a hit! Menu doesnt appear to be exactly the same but theres overlap and the food quality and taste is maintained! I give them 9/10!
Great breakfast and coffee. The duck waffle and duck benedicts were delicious. The duck waffle came with a whole duck leg which was a surprise, . Staff was very friendly. Food
Good food! Busy but good, staff are nice. Food
Mediocre food. The place felt dirty. With flies everywhere. The whole time we were eating and flicking the flies. The service was great.
Very home feeling brunch place, service was fast. Great coffee!
I recommend the ox tongue benny and the duck confit waffles. Ox tongue was very tender and the duck was surprisingly juicy and was in a perfect amount to complement the amount of the waffles.
Used to go to the location on highway 7, so this was the first time I came to the Richmond hill store. Cute atmosphere, and the iced coffee and London fog were superb. Peameal bacon eggs Benny was amazing as always !
Love their coffee. Benny is so good! French toast is very interesting.
Great tasting food, service was pretty good, and they have some unique menu options too! There s a bit of a wait so I d suggest getting there early or joining the waitlist prior to going. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Price: 4/5
We thought the food looks presentable. It was over priced since it was quite small but even that we can live with. My husband had steak and eggs and a cappuccino and he got food poisoning. He was so sick afterwards. He didn t eat anything else beforehand so it has to have been the food here. He felt better after he threw up. This place should check their hygiene. Someone from bylaw should check what caused the food poisoning. Be careful with how you handle your food. Money is not everything. You can kill people if you are not careful.
It s the best
New edit: It s been more than a year from last one pasta always hot and latte art looks better too . - Second cafe of the same name Still good coffee just like the original one! This time tried the carbonara pasta and the French toast. The French toast comes out better than expected and love the bacon ! The pasta unfortunately didn t come out hot enough, it s only luke warm and the spaghetti is too soft for my liking otherwise it was a good brunch But the place is packed so many people!! So do expect for line ups
Good brunch place in the area with cute latte art on the drinks.
We were there for breakfast at 8am since I had to go to work after;and surprisingly it wasn t open. Not like all breakfast restaurants, the coffee was served by order without any refill. There was no milk or cream to be added to coffee and the waitress didn t ask how we like our coffee ( just added a little milk). We ordered steak and egg and the steak was made medium. So, my friend didn t eat it( again not asked how we like the steak cooked). The pancakes were tasted different than expected! We were not asked if we needed anything during breakfast. Overall, the service was awful unfortunately and we had not a pleasant experience!
About a year or so ago, I attempted to order takeout. Nobody answered the phone after multiple attempts to call. Pretty basic requirement for takeout orders. This past weekend, I had the opportunity to dine in at the restaurant. The food was delicious and the presentation was nice. Unfortunately, the service is extremely subpar. The service could benefit greatly, by hiring an experienced server/manager to properly train the rest of the front of house staff on the basic steps of food service.
Everything was great.
nice second location, much better than its Markham location. Food is as good as the Markham location
good portions, salmon is delicious, recommend it! wait in line for a long time, that s why i give 4 stars
This was my first visit to this place i just one word wow the food was delicious..compliments to the chef and the staff we ordered bacon benny, shrimp benny, duck benny, spinach pasta and coffee i must say the winner from all was hands down the shrimp cake benny it was so flavourful that u can taste everything which was added to the dish..the corn, the bell peppers, the basil ,the spinach pasta was also very delicious bacon benny was yum the duck had a little sweetness(not a fan) but the food and the vibe was amazing the coffee was good too..
A great place to get an elevated brunch with your friends or family. The food here was amazing, the staff members were friendly, and the ambiance is cozy but light. We ordered the carbonara pasta, steak & eggs, and the duck waffle. I highly recommend the duck waffle for its flavour and uniqueness as a brunch dish. The staff were friendly and quick to serve our meals. I will definitely come back here if I m in the area.
TLDR: service sucks, but food is good. From getting into the door to leaving after eating, total time of 2.5 hrs You need to be added to the waitlist using the Yelp app. It doesn t say so anywhere, so you ll need to do that, or be prepared to wait 15 min before the one person comes to seat someone. They also don t ask if your name is already on the list, so you could be standing by the door without end. Many people who come in are confused because they waited for 20+ min to be added to the list, just to be told to return in 20-30 min after they get a text. Once you get the text and you return, you stand inside the doors. They ll still walk by you twice without acknowledging you because they don t have a tablet in hand. You ll need to get their attention because they re not looking for the group that was contacted. When you do get seated, the QR code on the table is a hint that they don t give out menus, but they don t say so either. When you re done looking at the menu, the guy who passes by your table 3-4 times won t ask you if you re ready to order. You ll need to flag him down as he just looks dead straight. Fried chicken ran out by 12:30pm. Once you do get an order in, drinks will get to you 15 min later. Food won t arrive together to the table. Now that we have the food, the carbonara is looks great for the eyes, but mediocre for taste. It comes off like using dried pasta. The duck and waffles had good individual conponents, but it didn t come together that well. After food is done, the waiters were wiping down the tables. If there were any food on the table, it gets wiped to the floor. Vegetarian options: Very limited to spinach pasta or salad.
We were a party of 5 and was seated promptly. We got there around 11ish. We had the chicken and waffles, carbonara pasta, french toast and the duck benny. Chicken and waffles was one of my favorite dishes. Only thing I would change is like have a boneless chicken. Eating a drunkstick was enh. But the seasoning was good and the sauces were good too. French toast was my.least fav because it had like a lot of crust and the syrup was different. Kind of a punch but I think I wouldve prefered the regular syrup instead. Carbonara was good. Duck benny was also good. I did like the salad that came with the dishes.
Food tastes good, had a very nice family brunch time. Tables are little bit crowd though.
Each dish was exquisitely delicious, the latte art was visually stunning
I had the spinach pasta and latte today, its so good service is good, environment is chill and relaxing ^^ this is always my go-to brunch place! I would also recommend their chicken waffle too! I will definitely bring my friends to visit again! :)
I am always looking unique coffee shops to enjoy and get some food while at it. Today, I happen to drive towards my brokerage and noticed Alchemy was just down the street. Im so glad I came in and had a delicious Matcha Latte & The Salmon Benny! The food was really good, hot and tasty. I have quite the taste palette and I was impressed. Thanks Victor for your hospitality and I will definitely be back and will be sharing with my friends, family and colleagues to come and try it! GOD BLESS YOU.
It s kinda Asian fusion brunch. The presentation is pretty. Come here on a public holiday morning. Full of people. The portion is quite big. Coffees are mediocre.
My recent favourite brunch place in Richmond Hill is here. The food and drinks are always good, and the food portion is really generous. I have been here several times, and my favourite food is duck benny, which I believe is a rare find in all brunch places. It tastes really good, and I love their potato sides a lot. They offer a wide range of drink options including hojicha latte, and they do a pretty good job with latte art too. The staff are nice and friendly here. Highly recommended :)
Nice place to hang out~ So good to have Hojicha Latte here~ And love those baked potatoes! Good to go with egg Benedict~
environment of grace. Friendly service, good quality food, good selection
A good stop for refreshment.
Came here for brunch and surprisingly good. End up staying for the entire afternoon. Highly recommend the egg benedict.
Alchemy never disappoints with their quality of food and exceptional customer service. I ve been back a few times to try different items on the menu. Needless to say, the taste is always spot on. Food is served very quickly upon ordering, and the portion is quite generous. My recommended dishes are their Salmon Benny, Duck waffle, and French toast. Their eggs Benedict are always cooked to perfection, and the salmon one is an all-time classic, paired with a small salad and house potatoes. The Duck Waffle presents a nice contrast between the crispy waffle and the super soft duck meat. The French toast puts together challah bread, crispy bacon, sous-vide apple, and lime syrup, and is a wonderful option for a sweet and savoury dish. For their drinks menu, their mocha has become my all-time favourite. I typically take mine with soy milk and for the few times I ve ordered it, the taste is always consistent. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and the seating is very comfortable. The store can get busy at times, particularly during lunch hours and on weekends, but the staff are welcoming and make a great effort to tend to everyone s needs. Thoroughly enjoyed my multiple visits and will surely be back again soon.
Its a really busy resto in the vogell plaza off 16th and leslie. The parking lot is usually packed and the waitlist tends to be full always. I managed to secure a minimal wait time on the yelp waitlist for my gf and I on a sunday afternoon. The decor is brightly lit and modern. It has slightly more tables than the original markham counterpart but just as popular. Duck benny: The duck was tender and juicy. I agree w/ my fellow yelp elite Aaron A. The potatoes were seasoned to perfection, crispy on the outside but soft and melt in your mouth on the inside. My gf and I also appreciated the fact that they didnt overcrowd half the plate w/ salad. The salad itself also had a vinaigrette that made it taste quite nice (which is a rarity for brunch salads). Chicken and waffles: I think the chicken and waffles here are the new standard by which all brunch places should be measured. The chicken has the CRUNCHIEST/CRISPIEST batter. Its seasoned out the wazoo and the chicken was not only JUICY but huge! The drumsticks came from hulk chickens I swear to God. The waffles were mega crispy on the outside and basically a cloud on the inside (felt like air on the inside). The sweet chili sauce had a nice kick but was well-balanced. I would definitely consider this dish a must-order for a first time visitor. For a brunch experience, I think this spot definitely rivals NextDoor on Main St Unionville for top tier honours. Ill be back in the future for sure!
Great food and drinks. The place is small but comfortable, and servers are nice. We ve been back several times and would recommend it to others.
Quiet and cozy place for brunch. Absolutely recommend it! Love the duck benny, and the home made dressing salad. The chicken drumsticks are excellent! Crispy from the outside and soooo tender from the inside! The staff is quite friendly.
Awesome experience. The iced coffee came as sweet as I asked for it and the matcha is phenomenal. Great job guys. Service was awesome as well.
Mixed Impressions at Alchemy: A Cozy Coffee Shop with Limited Hours I recently visited Alchemy for the first time, its has a charming ambiance as a cute little coffee shop. I was surprise and disappointment as the location closed exceptionally early at 4 pm. In hindsight, I shouldve checked the store hours beforehand. The coffee selection at Alchemy is diverse, yet nothing particularly stood out. I opted for the ice cream and espresso combo, while my friend chose a cappuccino. The service was commendable, and the environment was clean with other professional looking customers. One notable drawback was the early closure, especially given the $6 price tag for a cup of coffee. Overall, Alchemy provides a pleasant coffee experience, but potential customers should be mindful of the limited timeframe. Parking: Busy at lunch and afterwork times. Small parking lot serving the entire plaza
Unassuming bistro atmosphere that gets straight to the point of a dine-in breakfast experience. The menu feels curated and deliberately balanced to provide the optimal meal and varied enough to cater to whatever your stomachs mood calls for. First and foremost the coffee and tea offerings cover almost everything you could ask for. Their preparation and presentation are exactly what you would expect from a place that feels a cut above your conventional coffee spot. The matcha latte and cappuccino were pristinely authentic, careful attention had been paid to avoid anything burnt or chalky. Even after attempting to spoil my 2nd cappuccino with a little sugar by request, they managed to keep the sweetness from overpowering the rest of the flavors and achieved a very warm and welcome finale to my stay. And last but absolutely not least, the meal was fantastic. Theres a clear reason to why the menu imposes no substitutions(however they do consider any allergies upon request), they know how to deliver a meal that will satisfy and surprise you with its flavor. This is in a league where you dont need to say its good, they know theyre among the best. Its akin to complimenting a professional athlete performing at the peak of their sport, but regardless one just cant help themselves sometimes. My partner in crime imagined a brief adventure into time travel so that she could enjoy the sausage sandwich all over again. The steak and eggs were everything I could have wanted them to be and more. I feel the only way to achieve recreating these dishes would involve a good amount of culinary schooling. Overall, extremely satisfied with the brief escape from my regular week and look forward to returning for another brunch vacation soon. Parking: strip mall plaza, plenty of parking adjacent to the restaurant
Love their steak breakfast, i go after a big workout, they take great care of their drinks and the portion of food is just right, not too big, not too small, got a great flavor balance. I always get a hearty meal after each visit.
Food is good.
First time coming here with a friend for brunch on a weekday. Not hard to find a parking. A big warm welcome from a staff. Atmosphere is very cozy and warm. Seating is very comfortable with warm lighting. Staff is very nice to provide some good suggestion on food since it s our first time here. We ordered steak and egg and chicken waffle. Steak is tender and flavourful. Lovveeeee the scramble eggs. It s so creamy also with a touch of bell pepper on top. Chicken waffle is one of the popular dishes. Chicken is very crispy but meat is very tender and flavourful. They add a bit of spice but it s not spicy at all. Waffle is also crispy. It is not soggy after a while. Highly recommend to kids or people who like crispy chicken. For the coffee, we ordered cortado and americano which were suggested by the staff as per our preferences. Cortado is an espresso drink. Coffee is on the fruity side and creamy which I like it very much. Overall very good experience and will come back again. Kid-friendliness: Nice staff, spacious, comfortable seating
I ve been back at this location many times. The food is consistently fresh and delicious, service is great! Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a cozy brunch spot in Markham/Richmond Hill.
It s been several time here, as usual,Coffee; food and the service are very good.
More parking and space compared to their Hwy 7 location! The food was tasty, but couldve used a bit more seasoning for the spinach pasta. The cortado was good, but didnt stand out from any other coffee joints. Overall its a nice spot for casual brunch.
Nice food and environment. The fried chicken drumsticks are juicy. The waffles are also crispy. If I need to be picky, the taste of the fried chicken drumsticks is too plain. It can be more salty and spicy. The attendant is nice and diligent.
A favourite place to go for brunch in Richmond Hill. The food here is always good with the portions usually quite generous. I ordered the steak and eggs this visit and the steak size was a bit on the smaller size I would say. That said it was quite tasty and cooked perfectly. Coffee and drink selection is good and they have their latte art down pact. The location is cozy so sometimes there is a wait but they organise it well with an electronic wait list. Just prepared to wait on a busier day. Plenty of parking in the plaza.
Amazing cafe for coffee and food with great variety. Pancakes were fabulous! Cappuccino and latte were perfect smooth, rich and bold! Excellent and attentive service! Would highly recommend this lovely cafe for anyone wanting flavourful breakfast/brunch/lunch. Sure will return soon!
It s pretty hot to sit by the window as their blinds don t block the bright sun during the day.
Heard they opened this location for awhile but haven t checked it out. Went last month for brunch and there were only a few tables. Service was good and friendly, food came at reasonable timing, sits comfortably, more spacious at this location. But i have to say the taste of the food wasn t as great as when they first opened up alchemy coffee years ago. Abit disappointed and might not go back, as there are so many other options now. Ordered the smoked salmon benny which had mushrooms that adds more flavours to it. The chicken waffle was with drumsticks which were really so so.
Compared with the old store, the new store has a better environment, with a high floor and large floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a bit of Korean log design, and a proper ins style. ~ The signature Benny is definitely a must-try, and the new dish Ox Tongue Benny sounds good, and the taste turns out to be a surprise. Replace the meat in the middle with beef tongue, and the combination of poached eggs and buttered corn has a rich taste. ~ The Carbonara Pasta pasta is also ok, with the right amount of softness and hardness. The sauce coats each strand of pasta, which makes it delicious. ~ The hot latte latte art is beautiful, the hojicha is suitable for those who don t like coffee, and the Cappuccino is fragrant and smooth. The main portion was just right, so I didn t want to be too stuffed and didn t try the dessert.
Food and atmosphere was great!
Not accepting visa negative review Tastes good 4.5 points Service is OK 3.5 points I feel like the duck legs are so small. The ones everyone else eats are so big.
It s my first experience to dine in the restaurant doesn t have highchair for kids.
Poor experience with my kids, they don t have any high chairs and booster, my kid has to sit on my lab to eat the brunch. Never experienced a brunch place has no highchair. Don t bring your kids here, they are not kids friendly places. Will never come here again, to be honest the food is so plain. I recommend elephant grind coffee, next door restaurant, chillax coffee, etc. Anywhere is better than this place.
Food was decent. The pancake can be improved. It is not baby friendly because they don t have a high chair nor accessibility space for a stroller.
Nice little brunch spot in Markham. The menu is not vast, but lots of variety. Theres 6 styles of Bennys the carbonara was good flavour, but the pasta was overcooked. Too soft felt like I was eating Chinese egg noodle. Over lattes were 8/10 cute. And food was 7/10 and experience is 9/10.
As good a the other one. Just the wait time can be a little long, since entitlement is too good. With the wait
We came on the weekend and it was extremely jam-packed. The tables are no more than one inch apart. You can totally hear the entire conversation of the people sitting next to you from another table without trying. The experience was not enjoyable.. no room for jackets or purses. I had to move in order for the person at the next table get out of their seats to leave. The food was just okay, salad was very dry, not as good as the Markham location - alchemy coffee.
We were all very excited to try Alchemy s new location. We came as a group of nine and let s say they exceeded our expectations. The interior is wonderfully done. Love the high ceilings and all the beautiful wall art. The food was also very good. We loved the Chicken and Waffles - perfectly fried and seasoned. The Duck Benny and the Carbonara Pasta was good too. Both beautifully presented. My favourite was the pancakes. An absolute MUST try. All our lattes and drinks came out wonderful too. Keep up the good work Alchemy. Can t wait to come back and try more great food!
Lattes and drinks are yummy. My fav is the hojicha latte, good balance of tea intensity and sweetness. Also reco the carbonara pasta and the potatoes that come with the eggs benedict Meh on the chicken and waffles, its a safe flavour. Ox tongue on the eggs Benny wasnt impressive. It was chewy, basic flavours if any, whats a tongue taste like without flavoring any way.
I finally was able to visit Alchemy! I originally wanted to visit their Unionville location, but decided that their Richmond Hill location may be easier to access, especially in terms of parking. I arrived at 1:15pm on a Sunday and immediately signed up for the waitlist on Yelp (required if there are no available tables). I ended up getting seated at 2pm for two. Ordering is also simple. Their menu is accessible via a QR code on the table as well as on their website. You can call one of the waitstaff over to order in person. Beware that despite having 3-4 waitstaff, it can be a bit difficult to flag someone over when theyre very busy during peak hours. The food arrived fairly quickly, the drinks came first and the food afterwards. I ordered the matcha latte with the smoked salmon eggs benedict. Both are very great! I normally dont like the sauce that comes with a benny, but this one wasnt heavy or too creamy at all. My friend got a mocha and the berry waffles - which were both very good too. 10/10 will definitely come again to try their chicken and waffles! Parking: Parking is very simple, it shares the plaza parking so it can get very busy during peak hours, but there are lots of available spaces. Kid-friendliness: Not very kid-friendly. The tables are very tight and they dont offer any highchairs or allow for much stroller space.
The food are delicately made and the portion is just about right for those who are not a big eater. Therere many choices of benny (Egg Benedict), but few for salad, pasta, sandwiches, waffles and pancakes. Only down side is the seating is quite packed like many other cafe/brunch places. Its full always so not a good place for chatting when the ambient noise gets loud. Vegetarian options: The only vegan option is the pancakes with fruits.
The tea here is pretty bad, worse than fast food tea. The food looks pretty good, pricey though
The food is great. We like it and definitely will come back.
Parking: Tried this new location. Small just like the Markham location. Not good for large parties. Ordered Chicken and waffles. Chicken is good, waffles 10/10, salad better to leave it out as it s boxed greens with a light dressing that made it soggy. Carbonara. YouTube how to make it. Sauce wasn t creamy and the raw egg on top didn t rally do anything to help. Bacon? Wrong meat. Should be guanciale and pancetta. *Makes a huge difference. 2/10. Pancakes. Big miss. Would have preferred aunt jemima pancake mix. Pancakes were soggy inside, not crispy at all on the edges, color was pale, flavourless, the side white sauce was supposed to be condensed milk I think? It was watered down. At least that s how the consistency was. Might as well as take this off the menu if you can t make it. 0/10. There s room for improvement, but then again there are other options to dine in as well. Every customer that walk in may be the first. Serve good food to ensure they become repeat.
First time trying Alchemy, I heard a lot about the chicken and waffles and coffee. Decided to get the chicken and waffles and a peameal eggs benedict along with a latte and flat white. Coffee was great, beans were fresh and made a awesome latte. It goes downhill from there. The eggs benedict had great flavour and the egg was perfectly cooked, but the temperature wasnt even warm and the side potatoes were dry. Chicken and waffles needs extensive work. The breading of the chicken was flavourless and was like a hard flour shell around the chicken that made it very unenjoyable. The waffles were crispy outside and fluffy on the inside. Yet again the temperature was not right. The servers had attitude issues and I saw them cross their arms in front of a customer while taking orders. Nothing inherently wrong with that but to me it looked like she didnt care. This is a new location so I understand they are working out the kinks.
Very aesthetically pleasing space, friendly baristas and good food. Can get super busy during weekends.
Loved the food however you are sitting less than arms length away from the table beside you. Would prefer if the tables were more spread apart.
Was super excited to check out Alchemy s new Richmond Hill location, and I was not disappointed! The interior is very nicely decorated and feels much more open and brighter than their original location. However, they do fit a lot of tables in that space so it can feel cramped, especially during busy weekend lunch times when you re seated inches away from the other table. Service was super friendly and attentive. We got the salmon eggs benny and the duck and waffle. The salmon eggs benny was great, but the duck and waffle was amazing. The juiciness, tenderness, and light crunch of the duck leg was amazing and it was super well-made. All in all a good experience, would avoid coming on weekends if you want to avoid a wait or feeling constrained.
Except that the store is a little smaller, everything else is perfect and parking is convenient.
Just had a breakfast date with my wife. We ordered two coffee , duck Benny ,and pork belly with scrambled egg. Totall bill $51 plus. Restaurant was half full when we got there around 9:30 . Food with this quality deserves Five STAR ! . I mean can you find anywhere else better in Richmond hill ? The presentation is good , temperature is good , coffee is good . Pork belly and scrambled egg cooked perfectly! We came very randomly and it was fairly busy.
Went to try out the new location and was extremely frustrated, upset and disappointed. We ended up getting takeout since the lineup was long which was fine. But 30 min later we asked to see how much longer it was for our food since we only ordered 2 things. They said another 5 minutes. Another 15 minutes goes by and we see one of the staff point to us waiting to find out what we were waiting for. And confused they look aALL receipts and systems to find out where our food was when they already delivered to 4 tables ahead of us. They clearly had forgotten our order and we go in to ask to see if our takeout order was ready and they lie to us saying the kitchen is backed up and will be ready soon. Didn t even apologize and instead would rather lie to us about it. After waiting another 10min our takeout is given to us. When we get home to open the food, we find the waffles on the chicken and waffles to be ALL burnt. It was so dry with literally no batter inside it was like eating a box of crackers. Worst experience ever, first with the dishonest staff and second with the rushed food out that was made horribly. Save yourself the trouble and go to Elephant Grind down the street.
ordered the salmon benny, fried chicken & waffles, cappuccino & ice coffee. salmon benny is completely flavorless, all I can taste is the smoke salmon. The fried chicken is again flavorless, and the breading of the chicken is so thick! The coffees are also disappointing.... And atmosphere is so noisy, even the staff are talking loudly. It is not a pleasant dining experience and would not go there again!
Walked in, saw Pilot coffee prominently on display, my heart sank. I was there already, might as well order something... All I can say is I had a half decently prepared cappuccino made with Pilot coffee bean. Hence, 2 stars for food rating. Nothing special otherwise. Id rather go to a Starbucks Reserve, and order from the Reserve menu, than this.
Finally get to come by to their new location. Fav is their new dish French toast . Their shrimp Benny, YUM! The first time I tried it. I got hooked. Hojicha and matcha latte were my go to drinks now. You can also asked for ice matcha or/and hojicha. Ice mocha/ice latte is not bad em either if you like on the sweeter side. Now, this is probably my 4 or 5th time going now. Probably more. I lost count. I brought my other friends, coworkers and fam to try their lunch/ brunch here. They all loved it. Keep on going Alchemy aka ALCHEMY COFFEE.
The coffee and lattes were great, very well made. The restaurant is definitely aesthetic and Instagram worthy. But the food was a bit of a let down. The waffles were overcooked and the chicken breading lacked flavor other than salt and pepper and was also overcooked. The salmon benny was also disappointing. The hollandaise lacked seasoning, the eggs seemed to be pre-poached as they leaked water and were not warm. The side of potatoes were also underseasoned and didnt have salt. The food was presented very nicely but the flavor was lacking.
Trash and worst brunch restaurant that I ever seen in my life. Ordered 4 dishes and I waited the food for 40 mins and been told two of the dishes is not available. The staffs chatted with each other at the back and doing nothing. Very Bad experience and hope this restaurant will close soon.
The food is average, the service is extremely bad. The service person forget the order food for us and wait for 1 hour, just one out of four dishes come. Avoid this bad restaurant.
This new location has more seats and is more comfortable. The duck benny, pancakes and latte are really good. The bacon breakfast sandwich is also amazing. Last but not least, the hot chocolate is a nice surprise. See the photos. Service is also good. Five stars.
Was very disappointed. We waited for the food 1 hr and been told that one of dishes was not available. Poor customer service.
Salmon Benny Chicken + Waffles Latte Americano I love the latte, which was with the coffee that I like. It s perfect with well balance of coffee and milk. Smoked Salmon Benedict is my favourite I always order it for brunch! Perfect eggs with well seasoned fresh green salad. The roasted potatoes was so delicious it s crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Also it s seasoned perfectly.
Glad to see they have a Richmond hill location. Bigger and more tables than the Markham ones, but tables are very close together. If you are sensitive to the social distancing, be aware of this. Nice decor and good music vibe. Service is good. Overall food is well executed. Flavours, presentation, ingredients are all above average. Took a star off because there are room for improvement. The sausage patty is nice that its home made. It has red pepper flakes that makes it spicy. They should mention it on the menu, in case people are ordering for the kids. The spiciness is overpowering other flavours. Also our patties are not fully cooked in the middle. Pancakes could be fluffier. Brewed coffee is so so, better order Americano or Latte next time. Expect to wait for a table as this place is very popular.
Their smoked salmon salad is delicious! Fast service when you re on the go! Very good!
We ordered pancake with blueberries and Duck benny. The Benny tastes bad, the egg is too raw and there is no enough sauce. My kid and husband ate the pancake, and both of them got sick. My kid throw up badly and my husband has diarrhea.
I had to return after a few months after the disappointment of the coffee awhile back. Not I have to change my mind, the coffee is as good as their other shop on Hwy 7! I ordered two coffees for myself! Glad the quality was improved by miles!
I really like the original location, and I was thrilled that there is another location opened up in Richmond hill which is closer to me. However the food quality and service are nowhere near the original location. Im pregnant, and requested my egg benny to be fully cooked. The waitress said they would charge a $1 service fee. I was shocked, I had never been to a restaurant that charged extra for cooked food! And there were boogers on the seat , it completely turned off my appetite. I will not go back to the Richmond hill location again. Theres a reason why their rating is much lower than the original location.
Food quality is mediocre, service is slow. Thumbs down!
My first time at an Alchemy location and was immediately impressed with the space and decor. Although was busy, our hostess and server were attentive, quick and selection was amazing. As one of my favourites, I was ecstatic that they served Pilot coffee in-house. I would recommend their Ox Tongue eggs-benedict as well! Will visit again.
Excellent food
Very small restaurant, tables are very close to each other. We came in a group of 4, it would be tougher to get seats for bigger groups if you just walk in. Food was above average. Meats were pretty tender, the pork could use a little bit more flavour, salads needed more dressing as I could barely taste any, but ingredients were fresh. We were satisfied with our drinks. Not too strong, or not too sweet. Presentation was beautiful including the hot drinks. Portions were just right. Food came hot. Prices were reasonable. Service was friendly and fast. Refills our waters timely. Place was clean, bright, and with lovely decor. Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible by wheelchair
Awful experience with the waitlist. Food was mediocre
Great service. Food could be more hot. Ketchup salt and pepper came in packets which was a little odd.
Meh. Not worth the very long wait
Amazing wait staff, girl with the purple backpack was very nice and professional
As a cafe...the coffee it makes tastes worse than instant coffee, which is really something! There are not many food choices. There are about two to three options under each large variety. After reading it over and over again, I really can t find anything special to order. I had to order a Duck Egg Benny and a carbonara pasta... DuckEggBenny potatoes have no taste, they are not freshly fried. They taste soft, wet and lukewarm. There are no seasoning bottles on the table, and there is no salt/pepper/sugar/tomato sauce. The duck meat doesnt taste like duck meat at all, and it comes with a half-and-half English Muffin. Very average The pasta is not creamy at all, has a very light cheese flavor, and the water is not drained, making it watery. As for the waiters, there are actually 3 female waiters + 2 male waiters in front of the store. The waitresses didnt know what they were doing, and all of them were wandering around with expressionless faces. The male waiter was busy chatting with the waitresses and didnt do much service except serving food. We only accept cash and debit for payment, and everyone understands the reason for this. The only one star given to him is the environment and decoration of his home, which is very suitable for instagram influencers/Internet celebrity bloggers to come and take pictures and check in.
My friend and I went for brunch around 12:30 and it wasnt very busy. We got offered a table right away and there was no wait time. Servers are nice and the menu has lots of options. We went with chicken waffle and salmon benny. Both tasty and well presented. Nice place to hang out with friends and have good food. Will go again!
Great food and service.
Decent brunch, good coffee. We had the shrimp eggs Benedict and pancakes.
Great food and coffee. Very friendly staff. I love Alchemy
My experience at Alchemy was good overall. Service was a good. Staff are friendly and overall efficient. Coffee itself was on the muted side. While you can taste the espresso in the milk, it was more of a bitter tone to the espresso. A bit of coffee grains in my milk coffee sadly but overall milk was nicely steamed and stretched. Americano was a bit watered. Eggs Benedict ox tongue 4.5/5 - ox tongue soft and tender, nicely seasoned, well balanced - potatoes also well seasoned and smashed. no complaints other than can use more! - eggs well poached - hollandaise was well made but not too flavourful - pairing as a whole was lovely Buttermilk Pancake 3.5/5 - more on the dense side but soft still in texture - nicely balanced in sweetness - berry compote was a good balance of sweet and mildly tart - the cereal/ cornflakes were hard and soggy though so this was a bummer Overall would consider coming back but price is a bit steep!
Amazing! Cant wait to go back
I dined here on a Saturday morning around 9am with a group of 6. Was seated right away and orders were taken shortly after. The service was efficient and friendly. There was an issue with one of our orders and they completely remade the dish. The portions are a little small but other than that I felt that the food was great.
Awesome brunch! Best in the area
Nice manger nice diner nice dish excellent
delicious!!!!!!
First time here and the food was ok. We ordered chicken and waffle. Waffle was very crispy, almost feel like is deep fried. The Benedicts were pretty good. They use pilot coffee and it was not bad. Overall nothing is bad but nothing is great too.
* Day Ruined No reservations allowed for 6 ppl , We waited for OVER one hour since 10:45am. Staffs were not aware of the situation.. Poor staff training, literally doesn t know how to manage the seating.
After waiting over an hour for a table of 6, the staff continues to allow the smaller groups that came after us to sit first. The staff shows extreme lack of awareness on how to manage their seatings properly once a bigger group is waiting.
Waited over an hour and still did not end up getting a table with my group of 6. Staff were not trained well enough to priortize how to seat tables, nor were they willing to ask a table who were finished all their food/drinks to leave as they need the table for service (whether or not if it is for our group). No apologies, nor a complimentary coffee as we were waiting for so long. Just kept seating groups of 4 or less that came in after us, and kept us waiting. This was my girlfriends birthday, and the mood just went downhill from here.
Not a kid friendly place. Didn t even get to try their food because they don t provide high chairs and I didn t feel like having my toddler on my lap for the entire meal so our group left to go to another brunch place close by (Elephant Grind, food excellent as always). This is the first time I ve been to a similar type of restaurant without high chairs so I was quite surprised.
The bear is super cute!! the pasta is good too!
My friends and I both gave it five stars! The presentation of the food is pleasing to the eye. And the portion was so big that my friend and I didnt even finish the portion. The taste is also very good. The pasta and toast ordered by the people at the table next to me are also quite tempting. I will try it next time too. I would like to highlight the waiter in the store, he has a great attitude and a smile on his face! Good review! In addition, this new store has more beef tongue dishes than the old store. There will be many more parking spaces here than at the old store.
Kid-friendliness: This is not a kids friendly restaurant as the restaurant doesn t offer neither booster nor highchair. Without a surprise, three is not changing table neither. Food
Busy spot all day every day! More so on weekends. Once, I was told wait time was around 2 hours due to reservations... I ended up opting for takeout instead. Space is comparable to the Hwy 7 location, which is pretty cozy. Food and drinks are nothing short of amazing. Sasauge Benny was aromatic and appetizing - the latter largely due to my love for spicy food. Chicken and Waffles were delicious - lightly battered and juicy drummies and the waffles were... plain ol waffles. Highly recommend London Fog latte! Took my sweet time enjoying that drink while I kicked back and relaxed. I was lucky enough to find seating at noon on a weekday, and there was a lineup not long after my food arrived.
More seating than the Highway 7 location plus there is an online waitlist. Classic and Asian-fusion brunch options available.
Food is absolutely delicious and visually stunning! We had the Duck + Waffle, Peameal Benny, and Carbonara Pasta. Highly recommend all these dishes! Not only were they beautifully plated, they were all seasoned to perfection. Drinks were pretty good as well, we had London Fog and the Hot Cocoa. If you want to treat your taste buds, this is the place to go!
Overall a good experience. The servers are friendly and the food is good.
The Salmon Benny was delicious! The restaurant was a little cramped. I think it would be a lot nicer if there were less tables. The forgot my meal and because of that it was complimentary, which I really appreciated. I would definitely come here again!:)
First time at this location - I ordered the smoked salmon salad and a hojicha latte. Both were decent. Portion size was larger than I expected as well! Would visit again!
We had a great experience at Richmond hill Alchemy. Service was quick, delicious and enjoyable.
Take this as a warning! I will not offend anyone unless they offend me. If someone offends me, I will offend them.
Some negative reviews here but we went on a Tuesday and there was no wait and the service was great. Food and coffee was also good! Probably a 4.5/5.0 but a generous 5.0 from me!
Great food and attentive service overall They do not take credit cards Food : 5/5
good service taste good
Overall is really good. Atmosphere is good. Drinks are good and well priced. The eggs from the ox Tongue Benny were too runny (slightly undercooked). Other than that, it was a good experience
Wonderful brunch spot. The matcha latte was delicious, and so was the bacon sandwich, along with the duck confit waffles.
Food was absolutely amazing. Great atmosphere and servers were very attentive. My friend and I both got Salmon Benny and it was 10/10! Great brunch spot overall!
Unexpected surprise as we originally wanted to try a different spot. Menu is small but some interesting eggs Benedict choices! Delicious, clean and presentation was great. My americano was delightful.
Came here on the weekend and the tables were few inches from the others. We ordered the ox tongue benny and chicken waffles. The potatoes were under cooked and the benny had too much aioli on it. Chicken was overcooked too. We might come back to give it another try in the future.
Like their gold and black tone deco very warm and classy. We came today because of kids PA day and ordered their very well known Pancakes, waffles, French toast and ox tongue benny. Presentations are very nice the flavour is good recommend to bite on the ox tongue together with the egg and the bread
2023 October 3.5 Coffee and tea review only. The coffee was good. The tea was good. Was it overly impressive? No. But decent nevertheless. Seating for about 26. This is one of two first locations. Can expect a wait during busy times.
I ll give it a 5 to balance the rating. This was probably a true 4.3/4.4 in my book Staff was very friendly and helpful. The food looked wonderful and the presentation was terrific, though the pork belly was a little under seasoned for my taste. Everything else, eggs, toast were good. I hadn t had an ox tongue Benny before but if you like eggs Benedict it s pretty darn good.
My one and only favourite brunch place.
Came here on Saturday after 1:30pm, thay are not busy at all. Food is not as good as their Markham location, but is still ok. Waffles is really good and I think is a must try if you come to Alchemy. Service is very good and food come out fast after you order. Coffee is not bad here but is no surprise as well. You scan a QR code on the table for their menu but you order your meal from a server. Parking is not easy when I got there but we managed to find parking after 5 minutes. Overall is not bad
Food is good, but service is very bad. No one served me since I entered the restaurant for 10 mins. Even the people came after me got water, but not for me. So I asked for water by myself. After they served the food, no one ever came to my desk to ask anything. When we checked out, they just left the POS machine and gone forever. Will never come to this restaurant anymore.
Ample seating on a Saturday afternoon. Ordered the shrimp benny and I really enjoyed it. A classic Markham brunch spot. Glad they opened up a second location in Richmond Hill!
Great food and nice ambiance. Waffle and chicken was excellent, the chicken had a nice crispy exterior and good taste. Waffles are light and crispy. The salmon benny was also good, lots of veggies and perfectly roasted potatoes. I arrived around 11:30am and didnt have to wait for seating but by the time I left it was getting quite busy.
Gible and his homies liked the food! It was delicious :) The waiter was nice and friendly. Peaches and Cream tea was fragrant and nice
Came here with family, and the lunch was exceptional. It did take a while for our egg benny to come, but it was well worth the wait
Coffee ( Americano) is good , I taste some nutty, the shrimp Benny is good , Benny looks and taste very delicious , the shrimp cake is good with flavorful spicy and fresh, the salad dish is fresh also , I will take my time to try another dishes next time
Heard about this cafe from a friend so decided to give it a try. We went on a Sunday at noon and the place was crowded. There were a few groups of people lined up ppat the front entrance waitng for a table. Place is not big. There were a few large parties and they took their time settling the bill. We waited for almost 30mins for a table. Recommend making reservations or check in online to join the waitlist. Tables are set close together so you are able to listen in on conversations around you. Food came out quickly. We ordered the salmon benny, chicken and waffles and steak and eggs. The salmon eggs benedict was delicious. It had a good amount of sliced smoked salmon, hollandaise sauce was just right and salad very fresh. Perfect to offset the richness of the meal. Enjoyed the chicken and waffle. Chicken was crispy and big in size. Even had leftovers to take home. The steak and egg was abit disappointing tasted ok but on the small size. Service was good but had to catch their attention a few times. Overall had a good experience.
Came on weekday for brunch. Not busy at all but server didn t come until a bit wait. Dishes are well garnished also in great portion. The food was actually not hot at all. Sausage tastes cold and Un fresh (tastes like too long from frozen) as well as the muffin bread, they are all cold. The buns for sandwich is over baked, which is too hard to bite. Coffee is warm - not like just brewed. Had a very good experience in Hwy 7 location not sure why this one is such different. Will not return.
Although the place is small, it is clean, clean and tidy The clerk is so attentive and arranges a location not close to the main entrance. It s windy and cold The duck leg waffle is a bit thin and lacks taste. Spinach juice spaghetti, unique, huge portion, ladies like it! It s just that the parking space outside the store is tight
Love the food and the vibes!!
Nice chef with quality food.
Great service! Crispy chicken and fluffy waffle. Highly recommend!
Quality food! One of the best flat white in the area!
Great food and good service! Definitely will come again :)
Nice vibe and good food
Came here for soft opening. Service was good and efficient. Good variety of brunch choices.
Visit during soft opening Friendly and informative staff. Flat white was rich in flavor Unbeatble signature ox tongue benny
Great food & Great atmosphere
