270 West Beaver Creek Rd, Richmond Hill, ON L4B 3Y9, Canada
Basic eatery with large skylights specializing in hearty bowls of wonton noodle soup.
We went for lunch with my colleagues in Richmondhill location. I ordered the Signature Lo mien with beef, wonton and fishball. And added the veggies. The food is simple yet delicious. You have to place order in the counter and pay first and then they will prepare it. The portion is quite large and enough to make a good meal. My craving was satisfied.
Reasonably priced and fast service. Food was OK, but too salty for our taste. The fish balls were very fishy.
This place has been here for more than 30 years, yet it's my first time at this location. We've been to the one at Scarborough, but we think this one is better. We ordered the following: 1. Signature Noodle (Wonton, Beef and Fishball) 2. Fishball and Beef rice noodle. If you dine in, everything is served with takeout containers, even the utensils. Not very environmentally friendly. Staff are nice, and friendly. Generous portion size. Would definitely return.
There’s sand in the vegetable and black spots inside the shrimp wonton dumplings. New owner and new disposable utensils and bowls. I miss having the delicious food in real bowls. Need a new replacement when we crave for HK style wonton noodles
This was the OG location when I was a kid, offering tasty shrimp wontons that you can see! You can literally see entire shrimps when you take a bite. Everything made fresh to order, they give you a good amount of hand made fish balls (2), a couple wonton and the noodles. Their chilli / xo sauce is straight fire. Can't get enough of it and you can also take home a jar for $20. Highly recommend the A1 Shrimp Wonton, beef and fishball. Parking is a tad hard to find at times but they do have a couple their own reserved spots for their own customers Over the years they have evolved from a service restaurant to a self serve one, which is perfectly fine and works well. You go to the counter, order your food and they'll announce when it's ready and you pick it up, find a table, enjoy your meal and then dump your garbage and leave.
Came here on the recommendation of quite a few people, but it just didn’t quite hit it for me. The food is by no means bad, and quite good actually, but I have at least two other restaurants in the nearby area that I think is quite a lot better. With that said, again, their food is actually quite good. I found the portion just a tiny bit smaller than what I would have liked. Everything did taste fresh. Please note that it’s beef slices and not beef briskets at this location - I didn’t see it initially and was slightly surprised when I saw the food. I recommend trying this place, but I’ve definitely have had superior food at different restaurants.
This is where the local will eat ! Hong Kong Cantonese food. It is a very traditional hong kong restaurant setting, a bit noisy with canton speaking. The food is so yummy, the dumplings is large and the meat and prawns filling is really fresh. Good portion. The noodles, porridge taste so good to me. and the shellfish goes so well with the porridge.
How to order your food? This eatery is like a food court. You grab a table first then head to the back left. The order counter is located there to place your order. Give them your name. Pay your food with cash. Mostly everything on the menu is $12, taxes included. After paying, head to the back right hand side of this eatery to grab your cup of hot water before you head back to your seat. Wait for them to call your name. Everything is served in disposable containers and cutleries. If you need to pack anything to go, just request for the matching container cover and plastic shopping bag. Enjoy your food. Before you go, don’t forget to throw away your garbage. It’s located near the hot water area. It was always setup like this since it opened, but the order taking area/cash register now occupies a good portion of the dining hall floor space. So it gets filled up quickly during peak periods. Chilli oil alert: It’s spicy, but nice. COMPARISON: Just remember the Richmond Hill location is distinct from their Scarborough location. Richmond Hill is self served, while Scarborough (newer) is fully served, except when it’s time to pay the bill. You get hot water here, and tea in Scarborough. Veggie plate here is more than double the size than in Scarborough. Both kitchens are viewable from the sitting area.
The food is good. It is mostly self-serve, but the staff are kind and fast service is good too. My favorite food is Wonton noodle with vegetables.
The fish balls and beef were very fishy, and the attitude was arrogant and rude. It was a very bad experience. I will not come again.
This location has been open for 25 years or more. They changed their restaurant layout to self-serve where its similar to a food court: ordering at the counter and condiments, water station, and trash bin separation all in one area. The noodle soups are reasonably priced at $12 a bowl. The shrimp wontons are still delicious, like how I remembered from high school!
Really good value!!! People were very nice - food was good, especially wontons, but things like the noodle maybe not so fresh tasting. Beef could have more flavour. Still would recommend.
I like the shrimp wonton from this specialized shop in Markham area. To me, the best around town with huge wonton filled with big real bouncing-in-your-mouth fresh shrimps. No mushy fillers here. Some of my friends say that they prefer smaller sized wonton to be more delicate but I truly prefer these bigger full-of-fresh-shrimps wonton for hearty and fulfilling bites after bites. No need to be delicate here . Very very tasty. Worth the trip and keep up the great work, chef The shop is very simple, giving off a traditional Hong kong noodle shop vibe. Simple focused food that s very well made. The owner uncle, I think, is cool too
Simply the best wontons
Atmosphere was slow, no mood, quiet. No service whatsoever. Wontons were big but tasted bland. Broth were bland and those in house made chili oils didn t help much. Verdict, I won t return.
Quick wonton noodle spot. Self serve everything. Authentic but a little expensive.
Prices are 12 dollars for everything. Including veggie plate which feels kinda expensive. Moved into a food court style service (no service). Hence no need to tip either. Everything is self serve now. Including tossing of used containers
my favourite restaurant ever
Love the wonton here, theyre huge with fresh shrimp and the noodles are cooked perfectly.
Used to be good but not now
Hot, scalding soup served in plastic containers even when dining in. Place also wreaked of some sort of cleaning chemical. If you want to side track your health with some wontons, this is the place to be. No wonder the place is empty, learned my lesson indeed. Horrible and unsanitary.
I ordered Wonton noodle with added noodle for $3. The 5 wontons are large and delicious.
shrimp wonton noodle soup (A2) is legendary Food
The best shrimp dumplings in GTA.
Terrible experience here. I ordered the lo mein and when it arrived it was missing the vegetables. I ve ordered lo mein before and it always comes with a bit of vegetables. In fact, it even has it on the picture on the menu. When I asked about it the person said it s just a picture !!! Can you imagine ordering a combo at McDonald s and it didn t come with fries and when asked they just tell you oh that s just a picture on the menu ?!? I haven t been here in a couple of years and it s really gone downhill. All the dishes are disposable for dine in and you have to get the condiments yourself from the front and put them in these tiny disposable sauce containers. They don t even have them on the table anymore! Any other wonton place is better than here. Save your money and go elsewhere!
One of the best and authentic wonton noodles in Toronto. We ended up ordering an additional wonton bowl.
Been coming here for over a decade. Jim Chai Kee never disappoints or fails me. I m convinced it s the best noodle shop on earth. Consistent, quality, immaculate!!
For the price as everyone else said its really not worth it anymore. Was great 5 years ago now its a shadow of its former self. Midland location cheaper by 20% roughly
Excellent food!! Every time when I am back to Toronto it is a must-have food!!
Not sure what happened to the place but it s not a place you want to eat in. Food may be good, but hard to enjoy when you re eating from a takeout bowls and cutlery.
The shrimp wontons are YUMMY The shrimp wonton noodle soup is light, not salty Food
Not sure why they claim they are famous for their wontons. Nothing special about them... Just like Har gau in a soup. Not really wonton. The noodles are very good. They only have limited menu selections, wonton, beef, fish balls, veggies.... And thats about it. But the Price is cheap.
Brusque service. Fast, fresh, handmade, and delicious food. And amazing value. Just $12 including tax and no need to tip
Great chilli oil. Average food quality and portion.
Food court style restaurant with no frills. I come here for their chili oil.
Amazing value, featured wonton soup is only $11.
Simplicity at its finest! We have been aware of this wonton noodle house for the past decade and it took us nine years to come in and boy do we regret waiting. Anytime we had passed by in the plaza, there would always be lineups to get in and be seated. Luckily for us this was not the situation on Tues. Feb 6th 2024. Food: 5 We ordered their signature dishes A1 and B1 at $12 each as of July 4th 2024. Both have Shrimp wontons, bouncy egg noodles, sliced beef and homemade fish balls A1 is in soup B1 is soup on the side and added oyster sauce on noodles We will definitely return!! Best fish all I ve had and noodles were bouncy and cooked to perfection! I know why it s always busy and why they ve been part of the Best Restaurant list. Atmosphere: 4.5 stars Very clean however this is a simple dining restaurant and would not choose this for a special occasion etc. great for luncheons, and casual dining. Parking is plentiful and no cost but the plaza is busy so it s hard to find a spot. Be prepared with patience. Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly but I suggest bringing a bowl from home as they use takeout containers and extra containers cost extra. this is to help cool down the freshly made hot food quicker
This place has its niche. Its an unpretentious wonton soup diner, with a limited menu that they do very well. You can have any combination of shrimp wontons, fish balls, or beef. (All vey good with generous portions) You can have it with three kinds of noodles (egg, wheat, or rice) with broth or without. The wontons are huge and tasty. The fish balls seem to be homemade and full of fish. The beef was tender and cooked perfectly.
Best wonton place in Toronto!
Food is delicious. The egg noodles drag on my teeth and the rice noodles dont absorb flavour well so I prefer the soup. The flavour of the seafood broth is gloriously delicious. The beef strips are mildly flavored, tenderized soft, sometimes with (too) chewy pieces. The fish ball/cake is uniquely delicious too and tastes more like real fish than processed food, just eat slowly to catch the real fish bones in them as well. The shrimp wonton are huge and stuffed with delicious shrimp. Although the vegetables used to be cheaper ($4 instead of $12) the serving size is generous and they are delicious as they are boiled in their rich seafood broth. I highly recommend asking them not to put black sauce on the green veggies when you order as I find it it too rich that way. If you miss this you can save the veggies by pouring the complimentary boiling hot water onto it.
Yummy shrimp wonton soup. When Im in the neibourhood I get my favorite soup. Wonton has 5 or more shrimps per wonton.
Three pieces of noodle soup, including two wontons, some beef slices and two pieces of fish. The wontons are big, the beef is not tough, the fish is chewy, and the noodles are generous. The only flaw is that the food containers are disposable paper containers, which seems to lack some flavor. All noodles are priced at the same price, and you can order by yourself. You pay first and then pick up your meal, which is a bit like a fast food restaurant model.
Just went there with my wife for the first time and the food itself was fine. She orderer B1 (Special lo mein) and i ordered A1 (special soup noodle). The service and atmosphere on the other hand aas atrocious. As they describe it, the service is McDonalds style, and the lady behind the counter was just rude with almost every interaction (not just with us). The tables are not big and when we were sitting down, we were informed to sit on one side and expect to have someone split the table with us. And before we left someone came in asking for a table for 8, to which she rushed out a family of 4 who just finishing dining to provide them space. After we finished, we went to a dessert place to get french toast as the portion was smaller than expected. If you do go, expect to have okay food for okay price but terrible atmosphere.
10/10 every time. The noodles are perfect. The dumplings are perfect. The soup is perfect. The veggies are perfect.
Had Wonton noodles with shrimp and beef Bowl was plentiful, they should offer Chinese tea instead of just hot water Food
It s become self serve, self clean, hot water instead of tea, which is insane. They use to serve in proper bowls, now it s served in take out containers and cutleries.
You have not had noodles until you have had these noodles! I have been a customer here for over 20 years and I will always return. Signature egg noodle is my favorite and the chili oil is lovely also. The service is very fast even though this place does get very busy.
THE BEST FOOD EVER!!
Can t get better value than these noodles and they re quite delicious. I usually get the noodle soup with shrimp wonton but you should ask to add veggies if you want gailan (I forgot this time). I know they have an efficient system going but it would be nice to have table service.
Dine-in wonton noodles $12 all inclusive Place orders at the self-service counter and clean up after meals Disposable utensils lack the flavor of fine paste The wontons taste good, but the noodles and soup are not good either. Some are disappointed and don t recommend it. *The most unclear thing is that there are a few Michelin star blue covers stuck on the wall. I intuitively feel that they are misleading...
Mostly order take out. Price went up to $12 for wonton, noodles and beef now. Food is ok and portions are smaller than before Covid times.
Amazing quality dumpling and noodles
I dont why they are using all the plastic???
Jan 8 2023 update: Their noodle soups are now 12 dollars with 2 extra for veggies. They give you 6 wontons per bowl so its a lot of food now. Fast prep, nice service, its funny listening to their canton conversations if you understand when theyre eating lunch lol. If youre unfamiliar they will talk loudly, so you get the authentic canton / Hong Kong noodle shop experience Fast noodles! Takes them literally one minute from the time you order to get my veggies and wonton mein at the fastest. At the slowest, it took them about 5 minutes when they were packed. They recently raised prices by a dollar across the board perhaps around the beginning of May 2017 but its still cheap. 7 bucks for wonton mein and 2.50 for veggies. Ill be back!
This place has been here for decades. But its now quite different than before. It is now cafeteria style in that you order then take your food and find a table. Its complete self serve. They have hot water for free vs used to be tea. All the bowls, plates and cutlery are disposable and they ask you to throw it away when youre done - I really find this wasteful and bad for environment. Prices have gone up but I guess you dont have to tip anymore. Menu selection has been reduced. However the wonton noodle soup I had was still excellent so at least the food aspect remains high quality! The veggies are a very good size portion. Satisfies the craving one has every once in a while for wonton (or a few other accompanyments) noodle soup. Quick and in and out and satisfying. But just know its bare bones and youre there for the food
Really casual no frills wonton noodle shop. Its set up for takeout, but there are seatings for dine in. Water and condiments are self served. The food wasnt bad. The wontons are jumbo sized. Their C1 option was generous. Came out to be $12 per person. Perfect for quick cheap bites in this winter weather.
$12 for the signature noodles with AMAZING shrimp wontons, fish balls, and beef! Really great and cheap!
Pretty disappointing. Price went up to $12 but they dont even serve hot tea anymore (just water). Asked for extra chopstick and they charged money for it. Like come on, how stingy can you be?! Not gonna return anymore. Big Trio Wontoon is better.
tastes good
DIARRHEA for party of 3. We came here this afternoon and we all got sick after. With $12 a bowl of noodle, Id expect the noodles to be at least authentic. Nope. It was soggy and the soup didnt have much taste at all. One positive thing was that they do have 6 big wantons in the bowl. But whats the point... You get diarrhea after. The staff were rude and its all self serve. Staff stayed behind their plexiglass shields with full on gear. Cmon. If you are so afraid of COVID, close your restaurant and stay home. Parking: Its quite hard to find parking.
Awesome shrimp wonton soup
Taste is always amazing but it is sad a price keep going up. It was affordable a warm bowl of noodles.
After COVID, we recently came back when we had a crave for wonton. When we first walked in, we realized the set up was a little different- you order at the front and once its ready, you would pick up your tray of goodies back to your chosen seat, similar to a food court style rather than the dine-in experience they used to be. Secondly, all items on their menu were $12 (tax included)!! They accept all payment methods which was very convenient as they used to be only cash or debit. Their wonton was still the same- baby fist size, packed with whole shrimp!
Was planning to go tomorrow, but after reading reviews, change our minds. Going somewhere else.
Very simple place with excellent food. The wonton noodles doesnt have much flavour, so I recommend you add their chilli-oil sauce which should spice them up. Portions are amazing considering their low prices. Definitely worth it!! Vegetarian options: Not a lot of vegetarian options.
I always go to The Scarborough location. First time here. Because i was hungry & pass by. This place is a disaster. Price, service, Amostphere. Feel like i was in a food court. You have to grab your food when they call you. They wont bring anything to your table even water you have to get it yourself. And they have hot water only! No tea, No other drinks. They are still using plastic containers too. I rather drive aother 20 mins to Scarborough location instead. Not going this place ever again.
Everything is changed since covid. I don t understand why they still use disposable containers even in the restaurant. Not friendly staff wasn t changed only.
Noodles. It s all about noodles. My personal favs are the chewy skinny soup noodles that hold up brilliantly in the hot rich soup broth. Even the last noodle is never over cooked. Their broth is so good and their homemade chili crisp makes the broth perfect. Wontons. Also bliss in a good bowl of soup and really filling. Surf and turf comes from beef wontons and fish balls! Every bowl needs to come with greens and oyster sauce on the side. It s just a simple place that has really friendly service by someone s mom!
Food is always great, always loved the wonton and fishball. The broth had a nice sweetness from the shrimp. And their price is still quite reasonable. The service is pretty much self service, almost like a food court with self-serve hot water. Overall, good food just no service.
Good noodles with small selection of speciality menu.
The beef is tender, the wontons are crispy, and the fish balls are fresh and soft.
The post COVID menu is a set price . The only puzzling pricing is their vegetables . At $12 a plate, this is quite expensive and the option is to give $2 for 2 pieces of vegetables The wontons are okay but it definitely seems to have been changed - mushy shrimp and overall not the same The egg noodle tasted different too because it is no longer crispy and crunchy . Maybe they change their supplier I have no concern with the order process because everyone has their limits. Simply the food quality is not the same
Not a fancy looking restaurant at all, and service is basically ordering at the counter, but the wonton noodles are consistently good.
Every time we come to Canada, we have to stop by Jim Chai Kee for their won ton and fish noodles. Menu is relatively small but thats the beauty of this place. This is all you get but what you get are all fantastic! Since I dont eat meat anymore due to health reasons, I ordered the shrimp wonton with fish balls in rice vermicelli soup. Hubby ordered their specialty thick rice noodles with beef, shrimp won ton and fish balls. My oldest ordered their beef with fish ball lo mein with oyster sauce and my youngest got the beef thick rice noodles. Everyone finished everything! It is self serve so you dont have to tip and they provide hot water for you. But if you want an extra container, it is 0.50 cent each. The best part is their chili oil. You MUST try their chili oil. I like to pour a little bit into the noodle soup. Remember a little goes a long way! Its pretty spicy and I can handle spice. We will continue to come back whenever were in Canada!
Good price. Beef taste good. No service but they don t ask you for tips so I am fine with it. Chili oil taste very good.
Im from the north, so Im actually not used to eating Yi noodles. But the taste of this restaurant is very similar to what I had in Guangzhou, and like Guangdong, you can choose fish balls, wontons and beef without noodles, which is friendly to people with different tastes. I read reviews that the price has increased, but now the price is still reasonable. Green vegetables are a bit expensive. Blanch them with a few drops of oyster sauce for 12 yuan.
It s really super delicious The filling is full of prawns, and the soup is delicious... We never get tired of eating it, and every time we go there, we will definitely take the raw wontons home and freeze them, so they can be cooked at any time. I m happy to be able to eat them. Eat this delicious taste
Nice little mom and pop shop for noodles Very affordable prices Recommended dishes
I have come to this restaurant for many times. The quality is consistent and price is very affordable.
Quick and affordable. The shrimp wontons are HUGE!
$6 a won ton noodle 5 years ago. Raised to $12 nowadays. Despite the high inflation past year, 100% jump in price is unjustifiable. I wondered of any change of guard in term of ownership. Things have gone downhill. I missed the good old days at this place back in the 90s.
The woton noodle soup I had this time when I came to eat was alright. Before, they did much better.
Great wonton and noodles.
Omg, the Won Ton is awesome!
Very comfortable, fully self-service, flat fee including tax, no tipping. very good!
absolutely doesnt deserve 4 stars.. lol i dont even consider this as a restaurant, just a walk in cafeteria where you need to order at the counter, pick up the order, and throw away your trash after you finish. Get your own water at the side table in the back. food is soso, no service, and the atmosphere sucks. 12bucks for anything, but everything is pre-made and disposable to maximize profit. not environmental friendly since all the utensils are disposable, so coming here is just killing the environment. way overrated.
Had to come back to change review. Horrible service, food is not as good as before.Avoid!
This place has changed so much from 3 years ago. Came back to eat here with my family and was very disappointed. 1. They changed all the bowls and utensils to plastic 2. Its like a cafeteria where you have to PAY before you order/eat. 3. Dipping sauces are at the front and no longer at the tables, where you have to fill your own sauces in these tiny cups and bring them back to your own table 4. They no longer serve tea and you have to grab your own hot water 5. It went from $6 for a bowl of wontons to $12. The price is $12 as well for a plate of vegatables. Thats double the price of what it used to be. Overall, horrible experience and very disappointed of how this place is run now. My family and I used to love this place but will unfortunately not be returning due to the changes.
Great place and great service attitude! They take credit card! Food taste so good and will come back again !
The takeout soup container is way too small. Can barely hold any wonton and noodles. The rice noodle is too mushy. I will try the egg noodle dine in next time. Food : 3/5 |
I had better food and service from this place before. The subpar food and service I had this time perhaps it is because i dined here mid-afternoon when the head chef was taking his break and the waiting staff had to do the cooking. But that was my guess.
Good wonton soup, good price.
AMAZING WONTON SOUP. it s the best I ve ever had! I got the shrimp wonton noodle soup. the noodles have the perfect chew and the soup is so tasty. good portion. loved this place. it s worth the hype! Food : 5/5
We enjoyed the wontons because they were huge and yummy. The service could have been better the staff could definitely have been friendlier to us! Booooo to the man s negative mood! It s a self-serve eatery which gives off the vibe of a fast-food place. Ughhh.
Affordable, tasty and quick...Faster than McDonalds....food is good still but now they operate as a fast food. You seat yourself, order at the cash and pick up your own food.
Love the noodles. Egg noodles was cooked just right, none of that starchiness. their wontons are huge. I ordered their beef soup noodles, just perfect pair with red vinegar and their homemade chilli sauce. I rarely go to markham but when I do I try to stop by for a hot bowl of noodles. Im giving 2 stars for service and atmosphere not because its bad, but this is a noodle joint thats not about service (its pretty much self serve) or atmosphere. Parking: Dependent on time of day you come, I.e. weekend lunch or dinner time, it is a bit more difficult to find a parking spot, but most days you will be fine.
Nope, this was most definitely not the Jim Chai Kee that earned the title and reputation back in the days. What happened to the amazingly aromatic shrimp-shell slow-cooked soup base they were famous for? If you know how to find frozen shrimp dumplings and egg noodles at Asian grocery stores to boil at home, you can produce this meal at half the cost, without the attitude. By the way, be prepared to feel inferior to the staff at the store. They re still relatively polite, but they definitely aim to pump out the noodle bowls as fast as he can, while protecting their own health and has no interest in anyone else s health. You ll need to order at the back, self-serve with everything while they hide behind the plexiglass, and no one will clean your table between uses. Everything is served in disposable plastic that you ll need to toss out after you re finished. Giant $12 have been hand-written on papers, pasted over an old menu poster, on which all of the past prices have been duct taped over. It makes you wonder: is it really, Want vegetables? $12! Extra noodles? $12! A can of pop? $12 There s only 1 thing you can count on: the speed of the meals being served.
Drove 8 hours+ from New York City for this place. You have to go! It s the cutest little spot with amazing food, but self served.
Bring me back home nostalgia for sure
There is hygienic issue for this restaurant. I used to go there many times . Then it changed owners. When I went there afterwards , I thought the wonton bowl tasted funny, then as it got to the bottom of the bowl, it was simply a complete taste of dish washing liquid. Felt so sick. Good bye.
Used to be our go to place but with so many other wonton restos popping up, we prefer to go elsewhere. Service is not great and options are limited.
Food is great! The only thing is I wish they go back to serving out of real porcelain bowls. They went plastic during covid and stuck with it since
This place has a long standing reputation. Although the noodles are good, albeit pricey for what it is, there are newer wonton noodle places I am enjoying more these days. Over the years this place has moved more and more towards complete self-service. That means you pick up your order from the counter, fill your own tea, and dispose of the waste yourself. In their pursuit to further reduce dishwashing labour theyve done away with reusable bowls and cutlery. For a dine in restaurant to use plastic, disposable bowls and cutlery all the time, even for dine in customers, this is incredibly wasteful.
Nice ladies & jimbo shrimp wontons. Very tasty
Abit pricey, food is amazing.
WILL NOT BE COMING HERE ANYMORE. The food is good and simple Asian wonton noodle soup but the service is so horrible. The woman working there has no sense of manners, speaks rudely, and doesnt make any of her customers feel welcome. I decided to give them a second chance recently and the outcome was the exact same. Id much rather go to big trio or another Jim chai kee location. Disgusted.
The service is very terrible here!
Best wonton soup i always pass by every time by years go Toronto.
Taste soso, self service only, cheap tableware. The jumbo receptionist is noisy, and she obviously discriminates against Mandarin-speaking customers. Watching her performance is like changing the face of Sichuan Opera, fun and free.
The shrimp wontons are more delicious than the Hong Kong Chim Tsai Kee. Each wonton contains three pieces of fresh shrimp, which is very delicious.
One of Richmond hills finest takeout spots. Despite how quick the service is (call them and theyll prepare your order in 10 mins for takeout), the wontons, noodles and broth always taste unbelievably fresh and flavorful. The portions are sizable. Pictured is the delicious shrimp and beef wonton lo-mein soup. Give it a shot if you havent tried it out. You wont regret it.
VERY RUDE ATTITUDE, CONSTANTLY SNEEZING STAFF I went in to order take-out and I do not know that there is a very tiny container of chili sauce inside the bag. I was going to get the very tiny containers available for self-serve to put some chili sauce and some vinegar. This female staff who wears glasses yelled at me and said I cannot take from there. It is either one tiny container of chili sauce or vinegar, not both. If I want more, it is 25 cents each. I do not mind she tells me the charge if she is polite, but the way she talked and her attitude were really rude for no reason. I did not talk back at that time because I needed to return to work. I just took my take-out as is. I am so upset of her extremely disrespectful behavior that I decided to call the wonton shop. She answered the phone and I asked for the owner, she hung up on me. I called again and another female staff answered the phone. I asked for the owner and she said the owner is not there. I asked her if the man that I just saw is the owner and she did not answer me. I told her the reason for my call and she told me to call back in the morning but did not tell me which day. I do not think I will be able to speak to the owner by phone because they will be the ones who answer the phone. I do not know why the store owner hires this type of person. She was also constantly sneezing. I will not go back to eat in this place ! The rating is very negative. I chose one star to allow me to post my review.
Its a chain Wonton noodle shop known for big wontons.
One of my favourite wonton place, tried the original one in HK as well. They raised their price to $12 for all the dishes now.
Jim Chai Kee used to be my place to go for noodles with great quality and price... $7 per bowl of Wonton noodle soup now cost $12! What a shock! Got my takeout on Saturday and barely anyone inside the restaurant around noon when it is a supposingly busy time... I dont get how Covid justify 71% increase within 2 years?!?!? Maybe Covid got to the owners head and think that $12 CAD (equivalent to $74 HKD) for a bowl of wonton is reasonable Wont be returning anytime soon!
Very irritating women kept screaming at her staff. She s like playing an opera and I couldn t enjoy my meal. Her voice irritated my ear. Price for $12 tax included for 3 toppings is reasonable since other places (big Txxx) already increased their price to $11.50 + tax ($13). But watching this women insulting their staff is very unprofessional. Maybe I should consider give 5 star for free live tv show.
I used to go this place A LOT but now everything changed, they think all customers have virus and scared to touch anything from customer. Since you touch the tray to your table you can t bring it back from one of the staff! Very rude and cold. After being customer for so many years , if this is the way you do business, I will NEVER go again.
love this place.....the wantons are huge and prices are great....best wonton noodles in GTA
I attended at Jin Chai Kee Noodles in Richmond Hill today. I was taken aback that the price for a bowl of wonton noodle is now $12! Not only that, it is now a cafeteria style service where you walk up to a make shift counter and order. I understand price had gone up everywhere but from $7 or 8 to $12 with reduced service? Not only that but the quality of food had been dumb downed also! I m not the picky eater type but honestly the wonton soup tasted like warm water! Not returning any time soon! Will switch to the Big Trio on Kennedy south of 7 near T and T instead!
Good food. Pricy vegetables
It s outrageous. Wonton noodles that were $7 before the epidemic are now $12 a bowl, and a dish that was $5 is now $12. It s outrageous. I won t come here again! ! ! ! !
Good noodles however dine in is self served no table service.
Ridiculous prices and awful self serve service
Rude. Will not visit again.
Amazing soup.
Jaw-droppling horrible. Rude and Dirty. The service is horrible even if you speak Cantonese, its as if they have graced us with their presence and we should grateful that we can eat at their restaurant. The bowl of wonton soup noodle and dry mixed noodle tasted good but priced at $12 with the horrible service and atmosphere, the quality doesnt make up for it. A plate of boiled vegetables is also $12. A sinple lunch for two people can easily be $36. I ordered but didnt pay at the beginning before sitting down because I thought someone in my party would want extra items but ended up not adding anything to our order. In the middle of our meal, the hostess or waiter just walked over to us and yelled $36 at our table and walked away. Godsmacked, stunned, speechless, not sure what other words Id use to describe what I felt as I left. They also neglected to open any windows or air conditioning in the middle of summer so it was hot and stuffy and smelled of sweat.
Girlfriend loves their wonton noodle soup.
Unbelievably RUDE customer service. After I place my order. Noodle no soup. Add some vegetables. One waitress told the other waitress, loudly in Cantonese. no, it won t taste good. I was like, no idea what s going on. Why she say that? Another waitress ask me to pay first. It s 14 dollars. I want to pay 3 dollars in change. She shouted in English, no! no! no quarters! dollars only. She said got thousands of dollars in quarters. So I suggest her to exchange in the bank next door. She rolled her eyes and ask me to go to the bank, get 3 dollars. I cannot believe my ears. You guys take cash only and dollars only? Customers need to go to the bank to get 3 dollars? You must be kidding. So I said it s ok. I ll have lunch somewhere else. On my way out, I heard them laughing at me inCantonese. She said that woman got no money to eat. OMG. Speechless. A lot of mandarin people understand Cantonese. Stop being so rude. I mean I respect people in their 70s still working. But being old is not an excuse for being so rude. Luckily, these are several good wonton restaurants near by. They are so nice in comparison. At least they take change. And they didn t say mean things in my face.
Straight forward - a nice and humble place to have Hong Kong style noodle soups. Always my go to place whenever Im around the neighborhood. Highly recommended !!! Few key updates: - post covid, there is no full service dine in anymore so u have to order at the counter - all the items are $12 - cash only - photos are from pre-covid times
Food is not authentic. A lot of shrimp shells are found inside the wonton.
poor
Feel like the quality has deteriorated from its peak.
Can keep the quality still
Say something if you are offended. . It was my first meal in New York, but my hopes were too high. . A little disappointed.
Food is amazing. Don t expect any friendly customer service though. Get in, get out!
Went there because we thought it would be the same or similar to the restaurant in Richmond B.C. Since it had the same name. Was pretty disappointing. Very limited menu, only noodle soups. Beef was bad, wontons were alright and noodles were ok. Only had hot water and no other drinks provided even though there was a sign that said tea is available. Additionally, the lady charging us for the food was VERY rude. The man who owns the restaurant was nice, but lady ruined the whole experience. She was very impatient. I wouldve been fine with this place as a quick stop if it wasnt for how badly she treated us. Will most likely not be coming back or recommending.
This is the place to go when you got the urge for wontons. Jim Chai Kee has specialized in wonton noodle soup forever. You can tell by the no frills decor as well as the seasoned team working the front counter & back kitchen. The signature trio is so good in the savoury egg noodle broth: 1) Shrimp wontons are so plump and loaded with sweet shrimp fillings! 2) Tender beef is sliced in thick strips and stir-fried to tender perfection! 3) Fish balls are handmade from real fish meat pounded into huge portions. This shop has the same vibes as shops in the bustling streets of Hong Kong. In fact, their OG Hong Kong location has been in the Michelin Bib Gourmand since 2002!
Good easy and simple. Soup could be better and more flavorful. Chili oil is good and is a must add to help bring out some of the flavors. Noodles are nice and Al dente. Wish they had another variety of wontons with pork and shrimp, but good spot for a quick inexpensive fix of soup noodles.
good food, no tax, no tip. nice!
Been coming for years! The quality is still the same, the price is a little higher.
This was my favorite place for wonton soup for the last 20 years and I hate to say that I wont be coming back. I am not paying $12 for tasteless wonton soup in cafeteria style. Sorry but not sorry.
Hands down the absolute best Hong Kong style soup noodles you can get anywhere in Canada. My favourite is the Signature with Egg Noodle .
Definitely not a kid friendly place. Don t get me wrong the food is amazing, price did go up to $12 a bowl, but terrible customer service. I came here with my toddler and other family members and asked for scissors or if they can cut the noodles smaller and the worker sassed me telling me to bring my own scissors since I came with children. On top of that another customer (older woman) was asking about prices for things (although it is in big sign saying $12 for everything) the worker yelled at the customer asking her how can t she see everything is $12.
Grab a quick bite to eat here. Used to be full service restaurant but since covid, has pivoted to more of a serve restaurant. For the price, you are getting pretty good food. Make sure to buy a jar of their chili oil if you can handle spicy, its amazing.
Really good, fresh and plentiful
2022.11 they may be Michelin recommend, but not sure their standard is . Soup is not dai Dey fish. No baby chive, but regular scallions. Yes shrink wonton is big and full of shrimp, but that is it. Noodle is chewy. It is not my type of wonton
Food is splendid. Everything the same price makes it easy to choose for whatever you want. Due to Pandemic, certain procedures have been processed and limitation of service provided but it didnt affect any atmosphere there. All necessities are there in directed. Nice and friendly environment would make everyone in comfort.
Haven t visited this restaurant since the take out only days during covid19 until today. They have pretty much made the restaurant a take out/fast food type of spot. Go through to the back of the restaurant and place your order. Items available are posted on both sides of the wall with the majority of the items being $12 taxes included. Once you re ready to order they take everything down and ask if you re eating in or take out. If eating in they will call your name once ready and have your items on a tray and the food items in the black plastic take out containers, disposable chopsticks, spoons and low quality napkins. If you want free drinks it s self serve hot boiling water at the back. Once finished you MUST dispose of everything into the garbage can. Failure to do this will result in the shop keeper announcing loudly for the whole of the restaurant to hear that you failed to dispose of your garbage. For the classic wonton noodle for $12 they give you 6 large shrimp wontons mixed with shrimp paste, with wonton noodles and a few green onion scallions. I didn t like how this has changed to such a fast food restaurant and they keep posting those Michelin Star restaurant from their Hong Kong restaurant that achieved the star. I m not returning to this restaurant and will visit Wonton Hut which is about 10 minute drive east over by Warden Ave and Highway 7 East.
Since COVID, this place has been using everything disposal. Very wasteful.
Food is good. Can t go wrong with wonton noodle soup. But staff is extremely rude.
Very rude service, bad atitude, say many bad thing behind the customer. There is another noodle restaurant in the area, dont come here
The attitude is extremely disgusting! Wont visit again! ! Rubbish!
So disgusting! The whole dining experience was extremely poor!
Staff are nice, food just ok
Food court style now. No server at table.
It seems that the owner has changed, the food quality is very poor, including the service, the attitude is bad, I will never eat here again!
This is our favourite wonton noodle soup in the area!! You can find this authentic hand wrapped wonton restaurant located in Jubilee square. The restaurant has quite a few tables, but can quickly get filled during prime hours. We love that the wontons a filled well with shrimp, nice big and round. My husband loves the [Signature Noodle] which comes with wontons, fish balls and beef. My go to order is the [Wonton Egg Noodle]. We always order a side of the [Veggie Plate] which is usually Gai Lan or Choy Sum (I am not too sure as they are very similar sorry). Their chili oil is amazing as well, a little goes along way though.
Food quality is good and service is fast, but some staff there are rude.
Yes sirrrrrrrrrrr. Good noodles, I love it. Service? no service because its like mcDs but its cheap so who cares. If you from the canto region you will like guaranteed.
Nice
The price is too expensive and the service attitude is very bad. I told my relatives and friends that they will not come back again
Just go there for wonton noodles.
Still have tasty noodles, highly recommended
Good shrimp wonton noodle place. Stopped going here years ago because the soup was too salty, but theyve fixed that. Shrimp wontons are great. Large and tasty. It is pricey now, though. Cash only.
This place is a self serve restaurant where you order, pay and find your own table. You get your own water and condiments (chili oil, vinegar) at the pick up table. No condiments for take out as said on the sign. Food is still good. Their menu is insanely expensive. Everything on menu is $12, even a plate of Plain veggie.
Great Food!!
Best wanton noodles in Toronto. Super big & Yummilicious wanton.
Wonton Lo Mein was excellent. The shrimps were bouncy and sweet.
