9555 Yonge St, Richmond Hill, ON L4C 9M5, Canada
Strip-mall eatery with a menu of popular Chinese dishes, including chow mein & lemon chicken.
First time to try out this restaurant. Lots of parking but can be full during rush hours. Restaurant is bright and tables are not crowded together. Feel comfortable. Food wise. It is so so. Especially for the bitter melon with spare rib. It lacks of the taste and temperature cooked from hot wok (鑊氣). Some of the spare ribs were just warm. The good thing (or may be included in price) is no extra charge for cold drink. They did give four slices of lemon for the lemon tea as well , which is great
Reasonable pricing. Newly renovated very clean and spacious. Even the washroom is pretty clean for an Asian restaurant. Night combo comes with rice OR soup (not both). Has dessert too which was really satisfying. Would go back for sure!
Being visited here second times, always have to pay a long waiting queue for food after your orders. Just too crowded, bad ordering system, and/or having a couple of bad chiefs in thekitchen, I don't know.. But simply, they don't have a well trained head to handle customers in a queue, all customers are well packed in front of entrance door of the restaurant. They should get a self dispatch numbering system, so no more confusion. Ours overall dining experience is not that'll bad, just average waiting for food arrival time absolutely not stunning. The foods are well cooked and marinated, certain dishes are known well with [wok-hei ], just beware of what's your ordered for. Extra come with a bowl of Chinese soup or rice per each order.
Clean and friendly service. Suski the server was friendly. The food quality is ok. It is a bit pricy; but they served the food hot. We have four people with an order of 4 dishes combo. However they only served us 2 bowls of rice and 2 bowls of soup of the day. I think this is so frugal. The dessert is red bean soup with tapioca. Average quality. We had also ordered an extra dessert like French toast in Ovaltine powder. It is ok; but not outstanding.
I visited this restaurant for lunch on Thanksgiving Day, and I must say, my experience was quite disappointing compared to other Chinese and Hong Kong-style restaurants I’ve frequented. Upon arrival, the restaurant was packed, and we were seated at a table near the door. Unfortunately, this location was less than ideal, as every time someone opened the door, a cold gust of wind would sweep in, making it uncomfortable even with our jackets on. It was hard to enjoy our meal in such a chilly environment. The service was another letdown. It felt like the staff were more attentive to their regular customers, while we were largely ignored. Our orders were forgotten, and we noticed that tables that arrived after us were served promptly. This inconsistency in service was frustrating. One staff member, in particular—a slim lady with a bob haircut —had a notably cold and snarky demeanor. Her attitude made us feel unwelcome, which detracted from the overall dining experience. In contrast, Suki and another waitress were friendly and accommodating, which was a small relief amidst the otherwise lackluster service. As for the food, I ordered the baked pork chop with spaghetti, and I was quite underwhelmed. The dish was mediocre at best. While the portion was generous in terms of the pork chop, it was filled with fatty meat and bones, making it difficult to enjoy. The spaghetti was overshadowed by the heavy pork chop, and the overall flavor was lacking. As someone with a low spice tolerance, I found the dish to be unexpectedly spicy, which left me panting and reaching for more water and milk tea. Unfortunately, we hadn’t even received our bill yet, and I was already feeling lightheaded and dizzy from the heat. The total bill for three people came to around $60-$65, which isn’t unreasonable, but given the quality of the food and service, I felt it was not worth it. The washroom facilities were average, with only two stalls available, and I found the faucet placement to be inconvenient, as it was positioned to the side, making it awkward to use. Overall, my experience at this restaurant was disappointing, and I wouldn’t choose to return. There are definitely better options for Chinese and Hong Kong-style cuisine that offer both better food and service.
The restaurant was renovated recently. It has become a modern cafe house. Spacious n comfortable seating. Their staff are very friendly n polite. I had lunch there with sweet n sour chicken rice, very good. I also had a satay fry beef rice pasta which is also very good. However, the delivery is slow, waiting time is more than 20 minutes. The soup n cafe are very tasty. I definitely will go back again. The menu for dinner is quite limited n not appealing, I hope they will have more choices in the near future. Parking is free n easy. It's good for small group n friend gathering.
Modern environment inside. Food is excellent. Cold drinks no extra charge and was pretty good. 桂林湯粉 was abnormally spicy. Ingredients portions were good, and authentic, however not a lot of noodles. Soup base needs to change as it was too spicy.
I visited this place with my friend for dinner 2 days after their renovation/reopen. Staff were very nice but I personally think their food certainly have rooms for improvement. The restaurant only had 2 tables of customer including us, one of the dish that I ordered was deep fried tofu, and it took them over 30 mins to serve! Tofu was a little too spicy and the size was chopped irregularly. Shrimps in the stir fried vermicelli were also chopped into small chunks instead of using a whole or smaller shrimp. Other than that, I think it will be nice to implement more Guangdong style 'rice dish' into the dinner menu so that it is more equivalent to what they are serving in their breakfast and/or lunch menu, or even the name of the restaurant '潮茶檔'. The staff asked me for comments, which I provided, but she always came up with explanations to revoke what I suggested, so all my answers to her questions there after were, 'yes, it was delicious, very nice!'. Food price was within budget though, I got a 15% off discount, 2 free lemon ice tea (for some reasons they didn't charge me) and a free dessert. My last suggestion is, never take a customer's credit card out of his/her sight! I paid by credit card, the guy took my card to the counter and brought it back along with the card machine after a while....
It appears that this place had a makeover and shifted from its originally Canadian-Chinese menu into a more Cantonese menu. I ordered one of the combos for takeout and there was more rice than actual beef for $15. Thus, not the best value.
Went on Saturday around 6:30pm, surprisingly got seated right a way. In hindsight, this is a pretty obvious sign that the place is not good. We waited 35 mins for two dishes that were quick to make (Scrambled egg with shrimp and Diced chicken w/ salted fish & tofu pot). We asked multiple times for our order to be cancelled if they hadnt started making, but kept being told theyre almost ready, and they had lots of take-out order. Soup was borderline cold, Scrambled egg with shrimp was ok, but Diced chicken was horrible, meat was small and dry, salted fish was hard to chew and the sauce was watery. We are not picky with food and service, but we will definitely not going back to this place!
This restaurant has really good food at a reasonable price!
I am extremely satisfied with the food and service at this restaurant, thank you!
Ordered take out as I have for 9 years. New owners. Food was almost an hour late. Dry and I will never order again!! So upset! We had to order a pizza!!!
We like the food very much. Maybe a bit too much MSG that got us headaches and thirsty for a few hours...
Parking: Easy to park. Food
My grandparents use to order from here, I have kept the tradition going. Great place.
An excellent HK cafe
The food in the restaurant is of normal quality, nothing special. The portions are different from those in some YouTuber videos. However, I ordered three clay pot dishes, and the three claypot dishes were brought to the table in turn. They were all lukewarm. I was so disappointed. More than that, the three clay pot dishes were If the pot is still hot and rusty, take it out to eat . Everyone must be asking if you want to see it? I was so excited to watch it that I had no appetite to eat it (it was a rusty iron pot), just because some YouTubers made videos showing how to eat delicious food! These pots were hot and spicy when served, so Qin Wan immediately ate them Went to eat and was so disappointed !
Overall ordinary, no big surprises, the Milk Lava French Toast toast was fluffy and fresh, the white lava cream was smooth and not too sweet, but the brown powder spread on top does not taste like Ovaltine, nor chocolate powder; it does not have a particular fragrance. While it looks good hopefully they could make it more Ovaltine. On the plus side, it s quite spacious inside and service was good!
Worst service ever. I dont mind waiting for a table for 20mins which is an average wait time for a dinner experience. As we got a table, no menu nor tableware and a basic thing tea... Asked the Server after 5mins and told tea was missing and no menu was given, it took them another 15mins to give us those. As we wanted to order as we Raised our hand for atleast 10mins and yet they didnt care! My family and I ended up forget and left the place bc of their behaviour. Aswell imagine if we did order how long its gonna take! If you folks have time to wait sure, but forget of Coming here.
The food is good and the service is nice.
Breakfast are good, Many choices, toast is freshly made, Serve right the way! Food : 3/5
A favourite of ours for years. Relaxing dining with tasty options. There s also a private room for small get together. Food
Ordered for pick up and delivery . Since the reno I ve ordered several times, food is tasteless , quantities poor, little or no meat in mixed dishes, items completely wrong. Prices way up. The standard is no longer there. Shame . I ve frequented both dine in and take out since 88. I won t be ordering again.
Its a good place to enjoy hkg style Chinese cafe food
Recently changed ownership and has really gone downhill. The food is bland and not very good at all. We ve been coming here for years with the old owners, and sadly we will not be back under this ownership (the old owners still own Choice of the Orient in Woodbridge, so will go there instead).
I ordered the curry beef brisket. Canadian pho is generally not as creamy as Hong Kongs. This is a matter of ingredients and has nothing to do with them. Aside from the pho, its actually pretty good, but the milk tea isnt too heavy.
Its one of our popular places to go for dinner.
This place isn t good. Ordered take out and their food tastes nothing like real food. All their foods r too greasy, and their rice or all Chinese restaurants secret id that their rice they buy in their own supermarkets r fake. It s plastic. Be aware everyone don t buy any of Chinese restaurants rices or noodles. I tried their seafood fried rice with extra garlic and my god the rice was hard the following day. Disappointing and money goes to garbage. Plus they ask for a tip? Excuse me you are not all you can eat and cannot force us to pay tip. I did a custom and an old grandma said u have to pay tip. I said I don t have enough money for that. Then my fiancé paid 103 instead of 89.82. . Hope this place closes down for making u pay tip which isn t nice. Massage would be different story because it s physical. I hope restaurant would open like steakhouse keg or something. ! . .
We waited 10 mins to be told some dishes werent stocked. The waitress shouldve known and suggested something else!
I order all the time from here. Last night they were off. No sauce for the egg rolls, i order a dish got something else. no fortune cookies in the take out. Their food is good but forgot a few items always check before leaving. I will now.
Good price, above average quality. Same price for cold drinks Wheelchair accessibility: Spacious among tables Food : 4/5 |
Braised pork knuckle rice Coffee
Under new management post construction. Food isn t what it used to be. An item I ordered was missed, they rushed to cook it and instead of just asking me to wait as they cook it properly, they gave me inedible food. Have been eating here for 25 years with no issues before this.
Delicious food. Lunch special came with coffee or tea. Staff was very nice and attentive.
There is a special dinner combo in the evening. The price/performance ratio is good, the taste is good and clean, the main environment is very cozy, and the service is very good. The rice was a bit dry that night, but the merchant was very proactive in solving the problem. It was a good dining experience!
had dinner here last night. cozy simple environment. Friendly staff, food taste and quality are good. Many variety items in menu. Will come back to try their breakfast and lunch.
This is a new HK cafe style restaurant opening on the same location of they have breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea menu.staff is very friendly, seating is spacious.
Food could be somewhat inconsistent, but feels familiar and hits like a HK family restaurant does
Came here a couple times after opening, food is in big portion and they have free cold drinks that comes with the meal. Food and service is pretty good!
We got fried rice and sweet and sour shrimp. The rice wasnt cooked fully before it was fried.
Avoid this restaurant at all costs! The wait time for food was incredibly long and the service was very bad. The soup came out cold and only certain tables got desert at the end of the meal.
Food took more than 30 mins to arrive. Actually still waiting. In the end, 45 mins. 20-25% of all reviews is 1 star. Stay away from this place. A customer shouldn t be frustrated to eat at a restaurant.
Don t bother they are too busy to take your order. That s poor business practice and customer experience. Please don t go there or order because they are too busy for your business.
I would have given this place a zero but it wasn t an option. I ve been dining here for 5+ years the food suxka.NEVER COME HERE.
Trying to find a great Chinese food place in my area and most have been mediocre and this place is no different. We ordered the Sweet and sour won ton which was sold put and was told that when I arrived. Yes they did call, but trying to call back gets a recording. Ordered online and the vegetable dish with Bean sprouts had shrimp, which was not mentioned anywhere otherwise I wouldnt have ordered it. The fortune cookies were state and overall it was just mediocre. Not worth the money in my humble opinion. Still trying to find a great Chinese restaurant in Vaughan.
The wait time for food is too long 30 mins+. Servers slow and clueless to which food/dish goes to which table. By 2pm they were sold out (86 d) of most dish and had customers waiting 45 mins-1hr before telling them it s sold out.
Good food, good value and good service
Took a whole hour to serve the food. Portion size is small. Food is ok, mid. Edit: never mind, food is actually trash
It took over one hour to get the food. I m sure they wouldn t have served us if we did not rush them. Portion size is small and price is high. Many dishes are out of stock. Service is non-existent, we needed to rush them to get the food and multiple tables were impatient and frustrated. They have 2 sets of salt/pepper and sugar shakers that the entire restaurant seems to share. We needed to get it from another table ourselves. We received no apology or compensation for waiting so long. They need more than 1 waitress for the entire restaurant. And customer service needs to be severely improved.
Positives. Waitress were very nice and service was okay. Place is clean and newly renovated. Negatives, very slow with coming out with food and seem to forget to make some of my dishes. Had to remind them. Seems to have different cooks. Two of my dishes was delicious. One was okay. Other two were horrendous and almost not edible. Also ran out of basic ingredients like rice noodles; what chinese restaurant runs out of rice noodles with T&T grocery store right next door. I really wanted to like them as waitress were very nice but too slow, some of their cooks cant cook, too disorganized, and missing basic Chinese ingredients.
Food Quality and quantity has HUGE Room for improvement. Tried Lunch Wed and Afternoon Tea Friday, lunch still Ok except food only warm. came back for afternoon Tea, so so disappointed - pricey for a stir fry beef noodle (14.5) in afternoon tea but only got 6 small pc of beef, color is fine but No taste at all. Soup Beef brisket rice noodle (9.25) , when the erver brings to the table, think its a left over - only half bowl of noodles & soup, 4/5 beef tendon, +1small piece beef brisket, no veg, no green onion. also noodles has some strange taste only take1 bite - then give up. Think wont come back for a while.
They just hire the management from congee queen but still discriminate lmao
I ordered the Sihe dish with stir-fried mixed vegetables; the Zhizhu pork cartilage, the sauce was rich, the pork cartilage was very thick, the Zhizhu could have been simmered for a longer time, both were delicious; the five-leaf slices and salt-and-pepper squid were not crispy enough, and the garlic The fragrant bones are not marinated enough! Until September 10, 2024, cash is 15% off!
Went on Labour Day Mon. We waited 35 mins for a seat, however the staff did not provide any greetings or help in terms of getting a queue ticket. Very disorganized though there was ample staff working. Once s seated we were told that all pork chops and beef were sold out. This was a bad sign. Then we ordered and waited 25 mins where nothing came out. I then had to wave down a staff member to ask about our order. The original server came over a few moments later saying that she mistakenly ripped up the paper order and nothing went into the kitchen. Total waste of time and we were not provided any recourse. We were so mad that we left the restaurant. This is the first time I ve experienced where an entire group order was forgotten.
Waited 35 minutes to be seated, and no one greeted us nor gave us a table number. Once seated, we placed our order, only to be told that they ran out of pork chop, chicken and beef, which is practically 75% of their menu. Another 35 minutes later, the food still did not arrive. When we checked with the waitress, she said that they misplaced the order slip and we would have to re-order. If we did not follow up, she would have left us sitting there. Frustrated, hungry, and angry, we left the restaurant immediately.
Visited this place around 2pm. Service was not the best- we got seated quickly but we waited a long time to even get a menu, tea and cups to start. While ordering, 1/3 if the menu items were sold out . We asked the waiter politely what he would recommend if many the items were not available and he sarcastically said take a look at the menu longer . We waited over 30 mins and our food never came, after notifying staff, and another staff member ended up coming out saying they lost our order and had to take it down again. Food ended up being okay, it s a decent price but lukewarm- would not come here again purely for the service.
Came on a weekend for lunch at 1:30pm. As we placed our order, we were told most of the protein was sold out (no more beef, chicken, porkchop). That only left menu items containing minced pork, eggs, tofu. After placing our order, we waited 30 minutes but no food arrived. When we followed-up, the server told us they lost our order. So if we did not follow up, she would have left us sitting there waiting forever. No apology offered or some sort of compensation (like maybe 15% off for the inconvenience?) Instead, just told us if we place our order again, they will try to get it out to us as soon as possible. At that point, we were frustrated, disappointed and worried there was even less food options remaining since 30 min had elapsed. So we left the restaurant. This restaurant clearly has inventory control issues and order management issues. Staff needs to be further trained. It is not ready to open.
Please make sure to keep the old menu available for long term. The new menu isnt good at all. As long as old menu will stay I am still happy about coming to Choice.
This restaurant has gone steadily downhill since James the former owner sold it. The delivery is a joke. Order vegetarian mapo tofu it comes with pork in it. Order Sweet & sour shrimp get chicken balls and no sauce at all. Wont be a patron of this establishment anymore! Hope James is doing well!
This place was once known for being a high end Chinese food place new renovation makes it look like a cheap chinese food place in china town not as clean service is simply bad catering more to the diners then take out customers who wait too long past the promised pick up time what once was a great place has turned into not even being mediocre at best would not recommend the food was sub standard with no taste again what was one a Richmondhill favourite is now a place I would much prefer to forget very sad to see
Food took over one hour to arrive. 3 bowls of rice arrived 30 minutes before the main dishes. Spring rolls were cold inside. Main dishes were bland. When the food finally arrived we were no longer interested in eating. Staff is friendly however not all speak English making communication difficult. Atmosphere: cafeteria like. Kitchen needs better ventilation. Zero organization.
This place appears to have been renovated recently from a chinese restaurant (shown in older photos on Google) to a HK cafe. Decor is more modern now. Menu has lots of options you would expect at a HK cafe and includes both cold and hot drinks at no additional cost. Dishes are affordable, taste good, and they offer 15% cash discount so Im giving them 5 stars. I will return. Lots of free parking here.
Beautiful afternoon tea, I really want to try the red bean ice next time
One of the dishes we had was a bit too salty for our taste. The service, however, was quite good.
Not sure what s happened since we last ordered in June. Food was always good but this time lacked flavour, all dishes. Few items on menu weren t available to order. Spent $80 on take out and disappointed. Hope a one off unless others review the same.
This was a white linen table restaurant. Now has turned into a popular Chinese restaurant, with booths and laminated tables. The food was OK, chow mein noddles a bit greasy , wan ton soup lacked the former flavour, mushroom egg foo yang tasty. The tea used to be served in a white pot now is a thermos . Staff has to organize themselves as of yet , seems not to have a service area for each one. Atmosphere was very loud. It was full . Wishing them the best but Missing the old style we hace know since 1988.
This was our favorite chinees food in richmond hill for long long time. Ever since the renovation, something has happend. Tonight was the 2nd time we ordered food and it was horrible . I think management is changed and so is the chef. We will not go back and dont recommend this place anymore
First time at Choice Of The orient and YOU have to go. The service we received was so amazing, and we will be back again. They made us feel welcome and gave us an amazing experience.
Clean. Service can be lacking at times but otherwise okish. Amount of food on dishes can be small. Menu upgraded from Chinese canadian to more authentic Chinese.
This restaurant has just opened. A friend recommended the delicious Ginger Scallion King Chicken, but when I went there there was no chicken. I ordered mushroom beef and cooked seasonal beef. I was disappointed. I hope I can eat chicken next time I come to avoid cooking it wrong.
HK cafe . There food is very average nothing stands out. The taste was ok but something is missing. Baked chicken steak rice with black pepper sauce. The sauce ok. Pick your own sandwich. looks and tastes pretty sad. like something made at home. The Drink you can get it cook free at afternoon tea time and with out ice too. The taste wasnt there.
Choice of the Orient caters to older non-Asian population. They do a good job to reduce spice and flavours for this demographic. The seafood medley, and tofu all tasted fresh and cooked to the correct temp. You have the option of tea, but it s bland and coloured water. There s a tea charge, so you should opt for hot water instead if you want something warm to drink. Every table gets fried wonton. It was stale tasting. We did arrive at 8:30, so must ve been cooked in a large batch at the beginning of the day. TLDR: Temper your expectations, and it s a decent meal. Vegetarian options: Lots of dishes to pick from
I recently tried Choice Of The Orient takeout for the first time and was so happy with the food and service. I ordered with specifications to items and the food was cooked perfectly and fresh and delicious. The portions are excellent value and the food was ready on time and still hot at home. Will definitely be ordering from this restaurant again!
First time back in years. Food did not disappoint, all was delicious. Sadly service not so much. Wait staff desperately needs more seasoned and experienced wait staff to treat patrons as valued guests , not just as a job I have to do.
Best Canadian Chinese food around. I highly recommend the peppered tenderloin, peppered squid (squeeze some lemon juice on these beauties), Shanghai noodle and the spicy eggplant. Hot and sour, egg rolls and spring rolls are also great.
Favourite place to eat in the city. Jenni and her team are the best. The food is always fresh and delicious. Highly recommend the bbq ribs (well done) ;) and Cantonese chowmein. All of the dishes never disappoint!
I have been ordering Chinese food from The Choice Orient ever since I moved to Richmond Hill over 20 years ago . Have I ever had an unsatisfactory meal from them ....let me think about that ....nope. Today once again I have just ordered a smaller meal but large or small the price is quite fair for good quality dinners . They have outlasted really all other Chinese food restaurants in the RHill. Im getting hungry and ready to attack the food ..LOL.
Dinner here on a Friday night was full of middle to older aged white people (like myself) which shows you the type of chinese food older Canadians like. It is good and steady North American style Chinese food. Plentiful plates, reasonable prices and served with care and a smile from the server. Better than home delivery because the food was hot and not sogged out by travelling in containers. I love the dry ribs but miss the days of MSG which gave them more zest :). This gluten and MSG world is healthier but less flavourful. Great place to bring the family for Chinese but not to impress a date. Would return.
I have been going to Choice of the Orient for decades and it is consistently exceptional. Amazing service and wonderful food. You wont find better in Richmond Hill. Food
Very good Chinese restaurant for eat in I was very impressed!!!
we ordered crispy beef and the chicken in peanut sauce. both had a bland taste. the beef tasted like very old deep fry oil. And the chicken had no flavor, the sauce tasted like cornstarch with bit of sugar. I got it for takeout. We just finished our meal. We were hungry so we ate this food. Dont recommend. T&T self serve bar has better food.
This is the best Canadian Chinese place. Its like you walked back in time with nice table cloths and great service. Food is fresh and hot. They never disappoint! Vegetarian options: You can ask them to make something vegetarian they aim to please! Parking: Its in a plaza so parking no problem
First time trying Got dinner for 2 on Christmas day. Quick service, food was hot and fresh. Will be back! Maybe even New Years day!
We called a day before to order December 30,2023 they told me for 6:30pm . DECEMBER 31,2023 I DIDNT get my order till 7:00pm . So if you want your food on time order your food early about 4pm and it will be ready for 6:30pm my be?????
Placed an order at 4.30 and was told to come at 7.30pm! Got there and was told that it won t be ready till 9pm! I will never support this restaurant again!
The food it was absolutely disgusting just boiled broccoli and boiled noodles for $69 for three dishes. Talk to the manager not even help me say sorry how can I help you nothing I would never go again there never and I suggest everybody don t go there
Always fresh and crispy chicken balls. Always professional and efficient. My sister comes up from the States; we pick up her favourite dishes from Choice of The Orient and we re never disappointed! Food
I order from this restaurant on Christmas day, absolutely delicious, fresh food. Quick service, I leave close by this restaurant, every time I order take-out food, very happy ..highly recommend this place
Amazing as always New Years take out. Prices have gone up since last year due to inflation but this is still my go to place for good quality Chinese food with great service.
These guys are good. Better than the majority in the area.
This restaurant thinks that they have the right to serve you 3 pieces of shrimp and hide the rest of the plate in sauce and vegetables. Complete rip-off you order meat and get 3 pieces. The other Choice of the Orient location is much better this one has gone down hill
Amazing!!!!
This restaurant deserves 5 stars! The food and service has always been great. Would definitely recommend for tasty chinese food! The restaurant serves some dishes on hot stone plates that come to your table sizzling! Don t miss out on this restaurant! Truly a Richmond Hill Gem!
Great Chinese food lots of options to choose from.
Our go to place for Chinese food. 5 minutes from home. No reservations but got a table right away. Food was up quickly, good attention from servers, always like their food selections, especially pot stickers. Lots left to take home. Going back soon.
Checked the time they close in Google maps and it was 10 pm. Drive 15 minutes to get there and arrived at 9:18. They were mopping and wouldn t let us in. Will never go back
Ordered dinner takeout last week, the noodles just had a bunch of grease and oil, felt like a greasy spoon type restaurant. They also deep fry double coat the living life out of their general tao chicken so it was hard as a rock to eat. Unfortunate, I will have to go elsewhere.
Vegetarian options: Vegetable mix of choice with noodles or fried/ plain rice Food
Used to be good now it s terrible. Vegetables are overcooked, meat tastes kind of off . I loved this place when I moved here but unfortunately it seems like the food is on the decline.
Not a good quality foods. And also very pricey for Chinese food!!!
We had a special family dinner in the private room, and it was excellent. Sam was fantastic, and was very helpful. Delicious food. Thank you!
Wow. Has this place declined. Rude waiter and awful food
Was a nice experience Vegetarian options: Available Food : 5/5 |
Great service, kind waitors, and delicious food!
Was a long time customer of choice of the orient and after reading some recent negative reviews, I was nervous to order. Unfortunately , the reviews were true and the quality was not as it used to be .the ginger beef was dry and had an odd taste, no sauce on it. The general Tao chicken was soggy and the Cantonese chow mein used to have lots of veggies piled on top of the noodles, and hardly had any. We were disappointed :(
I think I got left over beef from yesterday. It was hard like a rock. Not to mention, my order was incorrect. Until I got home and found out and I wasnt about to drive back. Ginger beef had no Ginger just all sweet sauce. I ordered chop suey and I got fried rice. I wouldnt go back, this was my first time ordering but this is definitely my last time.
Very good food.
Ordered takeout and eaten in this restaurant many many times over the last 30+ years of living in the hill - miss Jimmy wish he was still behind the counter, time to order Chinese
We ordered frm uber & it was fast service! Hot, delicious and followed notes. Beef & broccoli, soup, rice & steamed chicken w mixed veg. Perfect! Extra fortues cookies!
Did take out here for the first time. Food was delivered hot and quick. Driver was very friendly and the food tasted great with lots of leftovers. We ll definitely be ordering from here again.
we have been coming here for about 15 years. had an unfortunate experience this evening.. we were to pickup takeout, walked in with my daughter and no one was in line. we were greeted by one pf two hostesses, who we told were there for pickup. then she looked behind me and spoke to another customer who in fairness was there when we entered but was not in line and on his phone. she went on to take his order. we wait a few minutes, more customers walk in. the other hostess who should have seen us (we were 2 feet away) finally finished on the phone, looked up, then looked behind me as if about to help the next ppl. i had to make it clear we were next. again she looked past me. the whole experience was very awkward. pay attention to your customers.. it will be some time before i go back.
Visited this restaurant on a Saturday night, opting for dining after multiple takeout orders. Our experience was marred by a service issue - we ordered 2 crispy noodles, but they arrived in sauce. When we requested a change, we were informed that only one could be replaced for free. The serving lady, who turned out to be the manager, was notably rude and impolite. Despite the good food quality, the disappointing service overshadowed our visit. Unfortunately, we wont be returning.
I placed my Xmas eve order on the 22nd. Was told delivery would be around 6pm. Waited until 6:45 to follow up only to find out my order was lost. Very disappointing.
Choice of the Orient? Not my choice. Dreadful service. Ordered hours in advance. Lost my order. Didnt admit it. Waited 45 minutes in the restaurant. No apology. Just frustration and a shrug of the shoulders when I complained. Very very poor. Plenty of other choices. Former regular customer who will go elsewhere in future, and tell his friends to do the same thing.
This was my first time trying this restaurant. Glad I did. I was having people over Christmas Day, so I called the day before to see if they were able to deliver. The woman who answered the phone was really sweet and advised me to call right when they opened Christmas Day, to arrange for delivery. At noon the next day, I called and was put on hold...then the call disconnected. I called back several times and it went straight to voicemail. I understood, as I would think that Christmas Day would be one of their busiest days. I finally got through and placed my order. I was asked what time I wanted the order for and chose the time frame from 4-5 pm. At 4:15, the food arrived! The deliveryman was really nice and seemed surprised that I tipped him $20. He deserved it! The food was really fresh and my guests really enjoyed it! The only thing was that I ordered chili oil, which I paid extra for (it was on my receipt), but it was not included in the order. Small oversight, as the restaurant was probably slammed. I would definitely order from them again and again!
Family ordered Chinese food for New Years @ 7:15. Told dinner would arrive between 9:00 -10:00 CASH only. 9:10 they called we ran out of Chicken Balls, would substitute. 15 minutes later they called cancelling order altogether. Support local business- receive orders based on what you can deliver!!
Food is always great. Ordered NYE for takeout. It did not go well. They were not prepared for onslaught of orders. Our meal was ready an hour later than they promised. It was a minor issue and the only time they have let us down.
Very busy on delivery and takeout but no dining due to pandemic rules.
Food was surprisingly expensive for the quality. Tasted quite average. It was much better years ago. We wont be back.
Quality of food is terrible. Customer service was terrible. I ordered noodles with vegetables, I received noodles with shrimp and chicken. Not what I ordered. Lemon chicken is completely dry and soggy, spring rolls were disgusting. When I called to complaint the response from whoever I spoke to was well we can t do anything about it now . Over $60 dinner for 2 was complete waste of money. Couldn t even eat the food. Basically all went to garbage. Definitely don t recommend, hopefully the restaurant significantly improves the quality of the food.
Ive been to this restaurant almost 20 years ago for the first time. The decor has been updated since, but the food is just as great. And the service is still just as friendly and speedy. Try the beef tenderloin in black pepper sauce. Its awesome.
Excellent
not bad
S&S chicken balls are by far the best around!
Favorite Chinese restaurant in Toronto! Clean and very delicious!
Food was okay. Flavourless and expensive. Won t be going back here.
The best Chinese takeout in York Region. Must have dishes are: Shanghai noodles, general Tao chicken, tiger shrimp with garlic, sweet & sour chicken balls. I could go on but you should just order and taste it for yourself! Cash pay with get you a discount on pickup :)
Excellent food and very good customer service. Portions are reasonable and dining area is very clean.
Disappointed. The food was bland and uninspired. The dumplings looked and tasted like they had been sitting around a while, not fresh. The mixed vegetables were lots of broccoli garnished with bits of other coloured vegetables. There should have been more baby corn, mushroom, baby bokchoy, water chestnuts, etc, as advertised in your menu. It also completely lacked flavour .any asian flavouring would have been nice. Basically, I paid almost $30 for semi-cooked broccoli and tepid, chewy dumplings. I expected a lot more from a place that s been around since the 80s.
Great food, good prices, friendly service.
Great food and service
Attractive interior. Good service. Good food. On the expensive side. For about the same money we could do The Mandarin. Quite enjoyable. I didnt give it a 5 only because I dont give a 5 unless the restaurant is amazing. Would I go back? Yes.
We have tried many other places, but always end up back at the Choice of the Orient. The ingredients are always fresh and friends always comment on the how good the food is. Thankful they survived the pandemic!
Weve been going to Choice of the Orient for years and the last few times we found the food disappointing. We ordered food over the weekend and one of the dishes was peppered ribs which more than half was coated fried pork fat. Not happy, I dont know why they think we wont notice. Wont order again from there. Thought we would give them a second chance on Oct. 26, 2022 Same, their quality has gone down. We ordered over $200.00 worth of food and were not impressed. The mixed vegetables with almonds had 95% onion and celery and we counted 12 almonds. 3rd time not happening
Staff is friendly and the food is always so fresh and delicious!!
We dined here with my family on Nov5th 2022 and it was the worst Chinese food we ever had. The wonton soup was bland and had frozen vegetables. I had better wonton soup from a can. I had the shrimp and lobster sauce and it had no taste and the sauce was thick like jello. The beef with broccoli didnt have sauce and was dry with no taste. I would not recommend this place to anyone. The service was ok but when we complained about the food they laughed it off. They know the food is bad. Never again.
While the interior is nice and the service is good, this is not a Chinese restaurant. They dont even give you chopsticks and the food is not prepared as it should be. Everything we ordered was flavourless. Ive been to many asian restaurants before and ordered the same dishes but this place isnt even close to the same taste. If you dont want authentic Chinese food, then here is the place for you.
Great food
Best Chinese Food! I love this place. Every dish is fresh and tasty!
Wow! I m normally in the downtown Toronto area and there are a few spots I ve been going to on the same street where I order the same Tofu with vegetables dish but wow Choice of the Orient blows any other place I ve eaten at way out of the water. I m surprised I m only finding out about this place now but holy! Their tofu with vegetables dish is the tastiest, most fresh and apetizing I ve experienced! The staff was respectful, patient and easy to communicate with over the phone (key difference) and the order was easy to make and was prepared in almost no time at all and it looks and tastes beautiful. Huge difference in quality here when compared to other restaurants of this nature. Wow. Highly recommend.
Amazing
Excellent service food is always delicious this is the best place ever for fresh amazing food
Pretty mediocre. I would not be able to tell the difference between this place and food court Chinese food, which for me isnt bad, but I expected better.
Thus place a has been around forever and they are always friendly.and food.is always good and consistent. Its more Canadian Chinese food but I really enjoy it! Live the sweet and sour shrimp!
Fresh food, tiny portions, rude staff. Wont be visiting again.
Ordered beef with flat noodles and bean sprouts, general tso chicken with vegetable spring roll and was very disappointed when I received my order. The vegetable spring roll was very mushy inside and I can tell it was frozen and fried. It tasted very stale. The beef with flat noodle was over cooked and too soft and did not taste fresh. The general chicken also tasted like it was not made to order. I ordered expecting better quality. I ve had better outcomes in the past but today I cannot say the same.
Jenni is a superstar and choice of the orient is #1. Always fresh, great portions and quality food! Order the Cantonese Chow Mein and Peking Chicken the best!
Food and service is always good
Everything in this place is great
Good food. Ordered ahead and had food ready right on time
I ordered beef and vegtables with rice. It was not good at all. The reviews also said it was bad but my friend recommended it so I thought I would try it The mushrooms on it or something makes it have a weird after taste. I wont come back here. Dynasty Restaurant in Richmond Hill is better.
I do not understand why this place is so expensive. The food is passable at best. There are much better choices in Richmond Hill.
Bland and overpriced. Dynasty is much better.
Best Chinese restaurant in Richmond Hill. Food and service excellent
Tried this place out with the family and was impressed. We had the food at the place. The service was great and the food was fantastic. This place is very underrated. I would recommend trying this place out for yourself.
Girlfriend and I were searching for a late night meal and we came across this place on Uber eats. Order arrived fairly quickly and food was absolutely delicious. Loved the dishes so much I decided to order from there the next day. Found my favorite Chinese restaurant in this area.
Very tasty food, friendly staff and restaurant is always squeaky clean. If there is one thing Id change, lights are too bright. Need to dim down. Other than that, highly recommended.
Not what I expected from a Chinese restaurant. It was better! The food and service was good. The restaurant dining area itself was immaculate with actual table settings and not just a plastic table top. Nice cozy atmosphere well decorated and the food was quite good. Not extremely pricey for what you got. Decent portions of food ( not the mountains you usually get) and not caked in salt. My wife and I will be returning.
Have been going here since I was a kid, just as great now as it was then
Great place with delicious Chinese cuisine! Loved the Mango salad, spicy eggplant, Steamed Basa filet and so much more! Cozy and luxury design and very clean too! Planning to celebrate my friends BD there.
If there was a -20 would have chosen it. This was bland. No sauce. Worst Chinese food I have ever had. Only edible item was chicken balls. Kids normally love lemon chicken. It was soggy. No one puts the sauce on the chicken to deliver it. Sauce on the SIde. We threw everything in the garbage. Disaster. Stay away. Horrible food. Horrible presentation. Omg do not order from here.
Great food, made fresh. Very clean restaurant!
One of my favourite Chinese food places in Richmond Hill. The veggies are never overcooked and the portions are always stuffed to the bring when getting take out. Food is fresh and tasty. The family who run the restaurant are always friendly and a pleasure to order from. Ive been ordering from this place for a few years now and they are always consistent!
Great Food, owner hospitality very much appreciated.
The food and the service is fantastic!
Delicious food and so clean with great service!
Poor service. Dont order online. They they didnt receive the order until I called 10 minutes past the delivery time window.
We have ordered many times from this restaurant, however each time that the quality of the food is sliding badly downhill. Our order of honey garlic ribs did not taste of honey or garlic but of sugar water . The order of Hunan beef was ordered as extra hot/spicy but barely so . The previous time that we ordered this dish it was not hot at all even though it is marked on the menu as being hot . I think that we will be looking for another Chinese restaurant.
Choice of the orient has been around since I was a kid. Great memories with my family. Still consistent with great taste and good portions! Support Richmond Hill restaurants during these difficult times. Highly recommended
Da Bomb!
This is a review for takeout Sadly, his favourite dish, the Peking chicken ($13.95), was the worst of the meal. It s an item that doesn t travel well, not because it becomes soggy typically, it s not crispy anyways, since it s slathered in a thick sweet sauce but rather because it s made from lean chicken breast that s cut into thick chunks, which after being sealed in a hot container for half an hour becomes SO overdone. My suggestion to COTO is consider cutting these thinner so that even overcooked they re not quite as tough. Not being a fan of things like lemon chicken, the orange beef ($13.50) had the same repulsive citrusy meat taste I detest. Nonetheless, I tried a piece and once the fruity flavour subsided, the spicy savoury sauce that was left behind was actually quite tasty. Give me the beef with Chinese broccoli ($13.50) any day! Wok tossed with some oyster sauce, the dish doesn t taste like it s mixed with dish soap and there s so much of the tender gai lan crammed into the container. Unlike chow mein, the noodles in the mixed vegetables lo mein ($11.95) are left soft, which you would think is better for delivery. Except, it gets so soft that the dish has no texture at all. Thankfully, we had gotten an order of moo shu pork and the leftover filling went perfectly with the noodles, adding crunch and extra flavours that the lo mein was lacking. COTO provides four large pancakes with their moo shu pork ($11.95) - you can really stuff these to the brim. Nonetheless, there was plenty of the wok hay laced filling leftover, a delicious addition to other dishes like the lo mein and fried rice. Despite the chicken fried rice ($8.50) being such a rich hue, the soy taste was rather weak. On its own the dish is too bland, but considering it s generally eaten in lieu of steamed rice, I can see why it s left neutral so that it doesn t become too salty once you add saucy dishes on top.
Order out... lemon grass chili chicken. Not one piece of lemon grass, chucks of green and red peppers, not part of the meal. I cant eat red and green peppers. Once I removed the chucks my meal became a happy meal.... for childern. No napkins, spoon or fork.... what the h****. Staff very cold, no customer service at all
Good and fast service
yum yum yum!! Best place to get Chinese food by far
Great food, great welcoming people. Very clean. We re keep coming back every week.
Uber UC
Food is quite good. Some are better than others so depending on what you ordered, you may think they are great or just so so. Price is a bit higher than others in the area but in fairness, portions are slightly larger as well. Overall a good place to go if you have tried various foods and know what to order
Order some beef baby bok choy open the container there was no Beef and when I called them she told me no English well my last visit .mack
Don t. Just don t bother. It is a complete waste of money. Last night we ordered Crispy Beef, Ginger Chicken, Steamed Veggies, Sweet and Sour Wontons and Steamed Rice and it was an utter disappointment. The Crispy Beef was probably the worse thing I have ever had. It was dry, tasteless and beef less. I had several pieces and none of them had any beef whatsoever. $17.50 down the drain for something we can t eat. The Sweet and Sour Wontons were next, as they were simply deep fried wonton wrappers served with sweet and sour sauce. There was no filling which is what we thought we would get when ordering. $7.95 down the drain. Next is the steamed rice which was a joke. We got little over 1/2 lb containers worth of rice for nearly $3. The orange chicken and steamed veggies were the only good things we got from this restaurant. I m not sure if like many comments, this place is hit or miss depending on what you order, but to be inconsistent with your menu and have the nerve to charge customers these prices is despicable. This is the first and last time we will be ordering from here.
I have been ordering from choice of the orient for years, the food is fantastic, always hot and fresh, delivery is fast, people that work there are friendly, definitely my go to place for a nice dinner at home or for a night out. Highly recommend!!
Delivery is horrible
Food was okay, overpriced. The service was half of what I expected. Definitely wont be back.
We love the food, atmosphere is great and service also great. They serve won-tons and plum sauce at the beginning. Dishes are served hot and taste great. Quite a large place, so you dont feel you are sitting on top of everyone. I highly recommend this place.
This is the worst chinese food i have had in years, every single dish i ordered was bad, and the lady oK my order wrong so i didn t even get the food i wanted. STAY AWAY
Mad sketchy place, looks like a money laundering spot. Go to pick up some food at night and it s empty. Completely messed up my order, didn t realize until I got home. Food tasted gross, had nightmares sleeping right after. Never going back to this disgusting restaurant again. Save your money, go somewhere else.
Service and food at the location is great. If you have a group large enough, some tables have lazy Susans which make passing the food around much easier.
