Good place to have authentic Chinese food. Good food, standard service. The seafood took strangely long to come out on this visit. I always look forward to ending with their complimentary dessert. Both locations are good. This location has more seating although the one on Bayview is more modern. The menus look the same.

Great food on the expensive side but you will never be disappointed. 5lb Lobster is what they do best. Other seafood dishes are also great too.

The food was good, but the service left much to be desired. Staff repeatedly asked us to hand them our dirty side plates instead of collecting them themselves, which felt disruptive and unprofessional. It made me question whether I was there to enjoy my meal or assist with cleaning. One waitress, identifiable by her heavily tattooed eyeliner, seemed visibly unhappy and served us without a single smile, adding to the uncomfortable atmosphere. To top it off, after an $800 bill, we were still charged a $5 service fee for paying by credit card something I find outdated, especially when even stores like Dollarama accept cards without extra charges. This overall experience ensures I won t be returning.

First time have birthday dinner with friends tonight and really upset with this restaurant. Will never go there anymore. No record for our phone booking, food average but too much MSG. The worst is service altitude!!! Asking more tips in very rode way. Food

Just finished a very upset lunch there with friends and will never come back. Foods OK but services was very very bad. They asked tip as gangster and expected a very high tip for their very bad altitudes.

The waiter will make you nervous if he is not satisfied with the tip you left on the table. So it s better to make sure you have enough small change before you go there.

Tried this place take out for the first time based on recommendation from a family friend. Cantonese chow mien was totally correct and the kids devoured it so quickly. The snow pea mushroom were good too. Lobster was good. Sweet and sour pork was good. Everything was good. Definitely going to dine in next time I m in the area.

One of my favourite spots for lunch. Consistent quality. Dishes very flavourful. Lunch specials are well made and good value.

Went in at dinner time. I understand that some items need to be preordered, but crab no crab duck no duck quail no quail .geoduck no geoduck. Then the servers goes and suggest other dishes and says that they have everything. Everything? So why is it when I tried to order you have nothing left?! If you want to be disappointed please go here otherwise go to any surrounding restaurants for better service and the ability to order what you want to eat. I left the tea money just so they don t think we are there to waste time

Their food was never the greatest but I loved their cakes and thought the service was decent until yesterday. I bought some tiramisu cakes and some bread. The cakes were rock HARD and dried up. It s like the cakes haven t been sold in months and was just left in the fridge to dry. I tried taking a bite and it had the most disgusting after taste ever and was again, rock hard. I tried calling the store and the person said that they don t make the cakes in store so it s not their responsibility. She said she would ask the manager and call me back but she never did. This is just beyond disappointing after being a long time customer. I payed $15 for the two very small slice of cakes and it was just a complete waste of money. I ended up throwing out both pieces.

Great Cantonese cuisine. Their food is at another level. Not the ordinary Cantonese dishes. Try them out, even a simple sweet and sour pork is distinguished from its competition.

Best crab ever

Unexpectedly, it was quite delicious. I ordered the lobster set meal, which included 3 lobsters with 3 flavors. The set meal also included fried rice. Overall it s okay, suitable for dinner parties!

Office dinner gathering, order set menu with additional dish, food are good and delicious, server are nice. Needing to add surcharges for the crab is a not good, as we dont think the crab size as described weights. Vegetarian options: Some veggie dishes for selection

Went here yesterday and while the food was ok, the service was very poor. We were still dining and was there for less than 1.5 hours but the staff was rushing to pack up food and pushing us out the door. I understand that there could be a rush hour crowd but the forceful way by which they made us leave was extremely unwelcoming and deserving of bad reviews.

Food was alright. The portion for this specific combo was enough for three people (we added one more dish along with it). The beef was juicy and tender, which became one of our favourite dishes. Many seating inside although it s better to reserve a table since it does get busy at times. Came for the duck but we didn t know we had to reserve for one. Guess we ll have to come back again.

GREAT service. Delicious food. Our waiter was very flexible in creating vegan dishes for us. You will need a reservation though - we were very lucky to get a table without one. Vegetarian options: I will post the picture of our bill, but we got King mushrooms with pea sprouts, steamed kale with ginger, vegan hot and sour soup, and an amazing tofu and vegetable dish with rice noodles that was not on the menu. Dietary restrictions: Our waiter was able to make the hot and sour soup vegan, and create a tofu and vegetable dish with rice noodles that was not on the menu. GREAT service.

Food quality comparable to Skyview or The One. Excellent Cantonese cuisine. Some dishes need to be ordered a day in advance, even if you dine in. I suggest checking out the menu ahead of time and order some of their recommended dishes that require extra preparation.

Celebrated with family in advance of Mothers Day and had a very nice meal. I recommend the chicken with crispy skin (had to be ordered the day before) and the fried rice noodle.

If you are new customer who has not been to this place before, think twice before you go. As mentioned in some other comments, they provide different level of service to their regular customer and new customers, and you can feel it obviously by the attitude the server give to you. Food is ok but not worth the bad attitude.

The service we received was outstanding which made for a most pleasant dining experience. The food was reasonably good. We particularly enjoyed the stuffed pig stomach with chicken and black pepper.

This authentic Chinese food, back again in 16/Apr/2024. Food is still pretty good.

I had dinner with friends last Saturday and ordered the lobster set. It was very salty and the oysters were also very fishy. We sat down at 6 oclock and started chasing people away at 7:30. They said it was limited time. Later guests came and asked us to leave quickly. It was shorter than AYCE.

After two long years, I finally had the opportunity to finally try Starchiva! Known for their take on the classics in Cantonese cuisine, Starchiva will not let you down in quality and service. Their Signature Marinated Duck is well known and for good reason! The marinating juices are a great compliment to rice and the duck is still moist and succulent. The Soya Sauce Free Range Chicken is a good chicken dish to share and the side sweetened soy sauce is nice to enjoy with the chicken. Overall, it was definitely a nice dining experience to enjoy with family and friends!

The food is just okay. Not bad but nothing special. For what they charge, I expected more and better. The chicken was tiny, and looked malnutritioned. The greens were flavorless. After spending more than $200 for 4 people, we left hungry and unsatisfied. There are too many better options around for the price, so I would not recommend this place.

The scallop and protein fried rice is amazing! The shredded chicken and five-flavor duck are also very good! Compared with giant lobster, Star Flower is firmer!

So many great things to say, I dont even know where to start! Food was fantastic. Big portions for sure! We ordered a combo for 6 and that fed 8 people, with leftovers that we took home. The Marinated Duck is a must try for sure! Everything looked and tasted delicious! The staff were so attentive! They were incredibly timely with refilling tea and switching out dirty plates - we never need to prompt them. They also offered a cancelled order to us, which was sweet of them to do :) Definitely make a reservation - they are very popular for a good reason! They were already fully booked out for 2 solid hours when we went to make our reservation a day in advance. Also pay in cash! Theres a fee to pay by card. Parking: Not sure why people are complaining in some other reviews about parking. Theres literally parking lots surrounding the establishment. Maybe its a 1 minute walk instead of a 30 second walk, but is that really considered not enough parking?

I give them 10/10 for their level of service. Without giving extra profit, we still maintain a high level of service, which is worth ten . In addition, the food quality of the restaurant is also very high. The beef tenderloin is very juicy. The lobster is fresh and the sweet and sour pork has the right balance of sweetness and sourness. Traditional Cantonese cuisine, they serve seafoods and set menus. The quality is above average, just it can get busy during weekends, so call ahead to reserve. Also since it s a busy restaurant, it s a bit noisy inside. Staff service is average Chinese service, foods are served fast though!

We had a lobster set meal and to our surprise, each dish we tried at dinner was delicious. This is pretty rare for an Asian restaurant but I would highly recommend for dinner. The hand pulled chicken, sweet and sour pork was delicious. Lobster and fish was really fresh and the salted egg yolk over the lobster portion was very generous.

Everyone, please be careful when eating. A few days ago, my wife got poisoned after eating food and called an ambulance to the hospital. The manager there never came over to take a look, but there are a few young waiters who are still very good. Afterwards, I went back to the hotel and planned to buy the bill. The first thing I said after entering the restaurant was not to ask people if they were okay but to directly ask them to come back and pay for the bill. I said are you okay? It s such a big thing, why don t you express your condolences first and then say that they are guests? Its okay if you eat it. This food poisoning is your personal incident and has nothing to do with them. This manager is really speechless. I would like to greet his family first and wish everyone a happy meal.

Very spacious place and bright. Booked a private room and order the lobster and bass combo. Lobsters was about 6lbs each and was prepared 3 different ways. Flavor was good and not too much oil or salt; well seasoned. Wait staff was very attentively serving and changed side plates. Dessert was a red bean pudding and was with sides of matcha mousse sponge cake and strawberry macaroons. Cleanliness of the private room and restaurant is without say. Would come back and is recommended to try this place. Parking lot is not the best; suggest to arrive early or risk parking around that back plaza area. Would suggest to reserve table if and when its for larger group.

Not entirely a 5 stars but at the time of reviewing this I think it deserves a bit more than 4.1 stars. Their food was decent and their combo was fairly good value. Be sure to call and order ahead their 5 flavors/spices marinated duck.

Tonight had dinner gathering here. Overall, the the plates was well made starting with the 12lb lobster that was made in 3 different varieties. The soup was very fresh. They consistently were pleasant and kept on changing plates for us. We had a variety of dishes with the beef lemon sauce was tasty. Parking is never good here but it is what it is.

The service here is exceptional. All the servers were very friendly and attentive. Everyone loves the five spice duck which you have to order in advance. The salted shredded chicken was also really good. We will definitely return because of how wonderful the servers were.

We were recommended by family friend to come here. We came here during our family vacation. We were told the signature marinated duck was a must try. When we tried to order we were told that we must preorder in advance. We got really lucky that our waitress came back shortly after we placed our order that she was able to accommodate and got us one. I was overly excited since I love duck. It was very flavorful so if you plan to go try this place try to reserve your duck. We also got the shredded salted chicken. It was well seasoned. We also got a few other dishes nothing fancy but I would definitely recommend the duck. The service is exceptional. All the servers were so attentive and friendly. Food and service are great. It was very busy on the weekend and quite noisy. If you want a quiet place to talk, this is not the place. But if you want great Cantonese food, definitely try this place. Must haves: shredded chicken, sweet and sour pork.

The quality of the food is inconsistent. What I had eaten before was delicious, but it was no longer delicious when I ordered it again. There was a very arrogant waitress with a bad attitude. The first time I saw her, I raised my hand to call her twice. She saw her but didnt respond. But he greeted a man who came in from outside with a smile. This man might be the boss. The second time I saw her today, a friend who was on the same stage called her, and she walked to the backstage. I asked her why she didnt tell her her request. When she heard what I said, she immediately turned back and said, Im serving food. Wait until I finish. Ill come over. It sounded like I was being unreasonable and insisted on her serving us first. I was very surprised. I didnt say anything to her at all. I only said one sentence to my friend, which made her very unhappy. It turns out that you shouldn t talk to your friends while eating in this restaurant? It s simply confusing! Finally, when I paid the bill, I asked to pay by credit card. The tall waitress told us that if we paid by credit card, $5 would be added to the bill. I said that I seemed to have paid with a credit card before and did not remember this extra charge. The waitress immediately contradicted me and said that this restaurant has been charging like this since the first day. Maybe I remember wrongly, but I am disgusted with this kind of business practices; another friend criticized the restaurants service practices and said that a notice about this charge should be posted at the door or in front of the payment counter. I personally think that no matter how gorgeous the decoration is or how good the attitude of the waiters is, in fact, it is just a low-level restaurant at its core!

The seafood dishes we ordered were not as fresh as we had hoped, my wife even had a little sick after the dinner there. Shame as it is a so called seafood-focused restaurant. Additionally, I noticed a disparity in the way the waiters treated different customers. The waitstaff seemed polite and attentive to Canadian customers, but the service towards Chinese customers, including myself, felt somewhat indifferent and lacked the same level of warmth, or even rude. I believe that every customer, regardless of their background, deserves equal respect and attention. This inconsistency in service left me feeling uncomfortable and detracted from the overall dining experience.

Amazing food and experience! We were part of a large party, and each of us were amazed by the quality, presentation, and taste of each new plate! Excellent.

We have party of 10 and order special 5 spice duck, jumbo lobster 3 ways, beef steak, snow pea leaves and stirred seafood. Food was fresh and tasty. The service was little rush and the dining area was little noisy. Kid-friendliness: Chinese restaurants are always kid family.

Food is not bad and service is attentive but the floor and everything feel dirty. They use some sort of stand to partition between tables but honestly we don t feel much improvement in privacy. Most of the items are pretty salty. However, the winter melon soup is under seasoned and lack ingredients. I have had better ones at other places at similar price.

Every dish we had here was delectable. Great flavour and good attention to texture. The crab hot pot with vermicelli was unique and is a must order. The vermicelli was stir fried with egg, and the crab was perfectly seasoned, then fried. We were licking our fingers afterwards! The lobster was also perfectly seasoned and fried. Super crispy and finger licking too. The clams had a nice spicy kick and the chicken had the perfect crispy skin. We also ordered the salted egg bitter melon/pumpkin which again, was crispy and had the perfect ratio of salted egg coating. We had a lot of fried/flash-fried dishes however, nothing felt too oily/heavy (that s when you know they used good oil). Even the cake they served as dessert was beyond my expectation. Good flavour and not too sweet. We got the matcha mousse and tiramisu. Would recommend this place.

This is our go to place on special family gatherings. Food is always amazing. We have basically tried everything on their menu and everything is just so perfect.

Last night was my second time here. It s not a very big place, but the decor inside is quite nice; very clean. Service was wonderful (someone is always coming by to give you new plates to replace the ones you have with bones or crab shells, etc. so I appreciate that). Food was delicious! We got a set dinner + a few extra items. Oh god I ate so much (I actually overdid it -_- and that doesn t happen too often).

A wonderful experience, the food is great, I will bring my friends to eat there next time. (Don t go to Time Squre! If you don t want to waste money)

Our visit to this restaurant for a traditional-style lunch was memorable. The standout dish of the day was undeniably the clam congee. It was a flavor explosion, with the natural sweetness of clams complementing the comforting essence of rice porridge. If you come here, the clam congee is a must-try. its worth noting that the BBQ Pork (Char siu), a featured item on the menu, didnt impress me. The pork was a bit to the dry side and lacked the tenderness. As for the fried noodle dishes, they were a testament to authenticity. The ingredients were fresh, the wok hei was evident. Although the seasoning was lighter than my liking, it allowed the natural flavors to shine through. Overall, it was still a very enjoyable experience.

The food is alright. We made a reservation for ten people at 6 oclock. After just 1.45 minutes, they handed us the bill and said there was a time limit because there were people waiting outside. However, in reality, there were only a few people waiting. I suggest taking your time to eat and wanting to spend more time with family and friends. Its best not to consider this place.

We had a very bad experience, and our whole family was disappointed with the service. The waitress who served us was extremely rude. Initially, when I asked about the soup of the day, she told me it was sea coconut chicken soup, so I asked to upgrade it, and I didnt mind paying more. However, when the soup arrived, it was a different type. I requested the soup she initially offered me, and the lady gave me a dirty look and an annoyed expression. She pretended to go into the kitchen and then told me the soup was sold out, and only this one was available. Seriously, at 6 pm, the soup was sold out? I knew she was lying. When we left the restaurant at 7:30 and walked by other tables, we saw people enjoying the sea coconut soup. What a liar! On top of that, she stood behind me while I reviewed the bill and questioned me about any miscalculations. I felt very uncomfortable with the waitress standing behind me, watching me pay the bill, and even suggesting how much I should tip. This behavior was incredibly rude

we came here because my sister told us about this place and said the signature marinated duck is good. maybe it was our luck, the duck was nothing special tasted like oyster sauce duck. The service was normal but not too professional they were commenting about the table that just left how they were surprised they actually tipped but still not enough. we were just 1 table away and heard the conversation.

Pretty good cantonese foods for banquets, events, and family/friends gathering. Delicious King crab, big portion of each dish. Highly recommended, its one of the best in the York region area.

My husband and I booked a private room to host a dinner for relatives following our wedding. From a service perspective, Manager Li was quite helpful in person and over the phone. The food was served banquet-style (e.g. server portioned lobster for each guest) and the servers were attentive with tea, dish clearing, high chair requests, and the like. With respect to the food, our guests were delighted with the taste and the ingredients (e.g. the seafood was live, the pork was a more expensive marbled cut, and the snow pea sprouts had delicate stalks). For context, our families are both Chinese and my parents are from Hong Kong. Last but not least, the room was relatively quiet, private (actual walls not just screens), and spacious enough for people to comfortably manoeuvre around.

Overall, was a pleasant dining experience.

Our chosen set menu consisted of the following dishes: 1) Soup of the day ( Watercress, red dates, almonds and Pork ) 2) 5 Lbs Lobster 3 ways: - Stir fried lobster tails with Maggi Sauce. - Steamed claws and head with Chinese rice wine, minced garlic on bed of Rice vermicelli - Steamed egg custard chawanmushi with lobster tamale 3) Stirred fry jumbo Hokkaido diver Scallops, Tiger Prawns and mixed vegetables with XO sauce 4) Wok Seared Beef Filet Mignon cubes with French Mustard. 5) House special, whole Grand-Father, 5 Flavour Braised Duck 6) Stir fried King Mushroom with Pea Shoots 7) Stirred fry Florida Yellowfin Grouper paired with Chinese Kale ( Gai-Lan ) - Optional addition. Duo desserts of Mung Bean dessert soup and Dark chocolate ice cream cake With the kitchen performing at top of its form. IMO, currently, Starchiva is undoubtedly at or near the pinnacle in providing commendable, high-class Seafood centric, Cantonese Cuisine in the Richmond Hill/Markham area.
