Deep-fried pork cutlet was perfect, super crispy and juicy 👍🏻 the best I’ve had in Toronto, milk tea was pretty good too. Attentive service, very helpful and friendly staff, highly recommend this place to cha chaan teng fans.

Cha Kee has become one of our go-to HK cafes in the area of Richmond Hill filled with many Asian restaurant options! Their signature baked pork chop rice has a brimming amount of meat atop plain egg fried rice. It’s a nice blend of crispiness & umami in each bite, although the tomato cheese sauce can be on the watery side. The other all-day meals we’ve tried include vermicelli with scrambled egg & toast, and tomato beef vermicelli. HK drinks are included in the meal (milk, coffee or lemon tea). Good affordable option for a quick bite.

We arrived right when it opened, and shortly after, there was already a long line. Ordered the preserved vegetable and shredded pork with vermicelli, no porky taste, just the right amount of saltiness. The broth was average, but the pork was tender and not dry. The lemon tea was tasty with a nice tea flavor. The Portuguese style chicken on rice was served with plain rice but tasted great, with a hint of coconut aroma and mild curry flavor. The chicken was very tender. Remark: There’s a 45-minute dining time limit at the restaurant.

One of my favorite Hong Kong-style restaurants. The food quality and taste are great—nothing to complain about! The only downside is that the restaurant is small, and there's often a long queue during peak hours. Still, it's worth the wait!

First time to come here for lunch on weekday. Ordered pork chop with spaghetti in black pepper sauce. The dish comes within 2-3 minutes after placed order. They basically put precook items on plate. The sauce is not even cover on top of the pork chop at all. Pork chop is already well seasoned and a bit salty to my taste. Restaurant is small and tables/seats are packed to each other. Anyway, if you want school cafeteria quality/speed/service, this may be fulfilled your need. But definitely not for me, as I rather go to FMP food court instead .

We visited Cha Kee restaurant in Richmond Hill and ordered the Curry beef and the signature baked pork chop with rice. The Curry beef was good, with decent pieces of tendon and brisket with potatoes, though the flavor didn't stand out for us, maybe our taste palette is on the heavier side. The signature baked pork chop with rice was enjoyable, particularly the crispy panko on the pork chop, but we found the tomato sauce lacking in flavor and could have more cheese for the price. The hot tea that came with the meal had a nice pull tea flavor. The Overall, the place felt a bit pricey for the portion sizes compared to other options. Overall Food : 5/10 Service : 7/10 Price : 2/10

Small modern decorated restaurant located in Jubilee Square. Great variety of breakfast, lunch and daily specials. Went with their Tuesday special, Signature baked Bolognese spaghetti w/ cheese (can substitute with rice) and tomato beef noodle soup. Good value as both dishes came with a drink choice (chose ice lemon tea) at no extra charge. Spaghetti was not overcooked, Bolognese sauce was meaty and clung to each spaghetti strand, could have used more cheese. Tomato beef soup was lacking in tomsto flavor, more small chopped tomatoes would have made a difference. Beef was tender but also lacking so the ratio of noodles to beef/tomatoes was off, found myself slurping more noodles in isolation due to the minimum amount of beef/tomatoes. I think it's still good value for your money, good variety of food selection and a nice clean modern casual setting for a quick bite, keep your expectations low and you won't be disappointed.

I was really looking forward to trying the Baked Bolognese Spaghetti, but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. The dish had very little sauce, leaving most of the bites with just the plain flavor of spaghetti. It lacked the richness I was hoping for, and the balance between the pasta and sauce was off. I think a more generous portion of sauce would improve the overall experience.

The taste of the baked pork chop rice was disappointing. It was not a fried rice base. It was just plain white rice with a little egg added to make it look like fried rice. His pork chop was fried. The black pepper beef stir-fry is flavorful but has too much black pepper. Recommend his western toast, delicious The main point is the poor attitude of the waiters, especially the two waitresses (about 11:30 on October 20th) who were very impatient. The service quality is far from the main store. The attitude is disappointing.

Came here for breakfast/lunch. Ordered pork chop, it was so fatty end up I had to say something to the waitress. After maybe manager or someone else came (guy behind cashier wearing hamburgler mc Donald s crocs) was not friendly at all. Not apologetic. Also said that s how all the pork chop is was his answer with an attitude. Didn t offer me an exchange option I had to ask for a swap. Had the scallion pork chop many times before and never had an issue. Also ordered the breakfast combo, you won t get what you see on the menu. Scramble eggs were way too runny and watery. Definitely won t be coming back here again. It used to be good and great service but not sure what happened?

Good food is 100 times better than a conscience ice cream shop. The best thing is to eat well, and the most important thing is to have the taste of Hong Kong! Meals are delivered and you can drink while you eat, and there are no washes for dine-in meals during a limited time. The prices are reasonable enough for ordinary people. Very good!! I will come back!

When Cha Kee first opened up, pre-pandemc, my family and I wanted to pay them a visit but unfortunately were unable to as their shop is extremely small and always had a huge lineup. Now that were in a takeout only kind of state, we picked up this BAKED PORK CHOP RICE to try them out. Being quite a saucy dish, it cant really be very aesthetic, but this one was quite good looking for what it is. There was quite a good sauce-to-rice ratio, though the sauce was primarily ketchup, not too sour though. I enjoy that the rice base used is fried rice, scrambled with egg, meaning more flavor. Depending on how you like your rice cooked, this one was on the softer side (i.e. more wet content, rather than a dry stir-fry). As for the star of the show, the breaded pork cutlet, it was tender and nicely portioned, but not crispy or crunchy. I thought this might be due to the nature of takeout, but Ive been told that people have had the same experience for dine-in as well. I wouldve loved some cheese on here to add that little extra something. BONUS: the price includes a COLD beverage, which other places usually require an upgrade charge. Another dish that I tried that looks much like this one (same portions too!) is the BOLOGNESE FRIES for $8.99, which also includes an iced beverage! The fries used are similar to that of Costcos, one of my favorites. As expected, the fries got quite soft but still tasted good. Critical to make this dish delicious is the amount of sauce and meat in the sauce, which was a ton! Not nearly as ketchup-y as the baked pork chop rice so its much better in terms of flavor. And of course, its nicely coated with melted cheese, something that cannot be missed. Update on June 2, 2024: I returned here on a Sunday around 6:00 pm. The restaurant was completely empty so we were the only guests, to be joined by one other person later and maybe 2-3 takeout orders during our hour-long stay. They have about 10 tables, varying whether you can sit 2-4 people each. The place looked very clean. We were greeted upon entry and told we could seat ourselves wherever we liked. We were immediately given menus for each person at our table of four. After ordering, they immediately gave us napkins, cutlery, and four bowls for sharing since we ordered three dishes and a snack - it was nice that they clued in, without us having to ask. The food came along quickly. We got the following: 1. Curry fish balls: the fish balls themselves had a nice chew and texture to them, but overall, was not flavorful enough. 2. Baked Bolognese Fries: a favorite of ours. They use crinkle fries which are softened by the sauce but theres always a good amount of sauce and meat. Flavor is good without being too salty. 3. Satay beef vermicelli which also comes with scrambled eggs and toast, as part of their all-day breakfast menu. I didnt have any of this so I cannot comment. 4. Pork cutlet with tomato sauce on spaghetti: from the English name, I didnt realize the pork cutlet would be fried but I appreciated that it wasnt oily and actually very juicy and tender. The amount of pork chop was also amazing, literally half the plate. The flavor of the tomato sauce was okay, being a little sweet. I wish they premixed the spaghetti with the sauce as this was a bit of a struggle to do, given how full the plate was. The latter three dishes came with drinks, with no upcharge if you wanted iced beverages so thats what we ordered. Personally, I felt my iced lemon tea was lacking in flavor. Service was friendly and very responsive whenever we said thank you, goodbye, etc. Since they closed at 7 pm, they handed us the bill at 6:43 pm since they wanted to close the till but told us we could still sit and enjoy.

Service is fast and food hits the spot. The HK style milk tea is one of the best in the city. More vegetarian options would be great (I currently get the chicken with egg on instant noodles without the chicken) and reduction in the amount of single use waste items. All sauces are in plastic containers even if you eat in and use of plastic straws are still in place.

A cozy, family run Hong Kong style cafe offering good, solid food that warped Yelp reviews did not give it justice! When I thought I had covered most, if not all, decent Hong Kong Style Cafe in my Richmond Hill neighborhood. A routine drive into the strip plaza on Beaver Creek/Highway #7, where Jim Chai Kee is located, revealed another obscured, potential candidate. The small, compact and cozy eatery offers a fairly compact and interesting menu to match. A young cheerful and friendly server took our order of the following homey, one plate meals: - Baked Luncheon Meat and Macaroni with Cheese and Creamy Tomato Sauce - Casserole of Baked Battered Fish Filet with Cheese and White Cream Sauce on Egg Fried Rice. - Satay Beef Slices and Scrambled Egg on Instant Noodles - Fried Chicken Wings with French Fries - Complimentary Hot or Cold Beverages. I am and always have been a fan of baked casserole dishes topped with creamy white sauce and as such, I always keep a watchful eye for good, stand-out ones. Today s new find must be amongst one of my all time GTA favorites. Unlike some cut-corner starchy ones, Cha-Kee s creamy, velvety smooth version was packed full of buttery cream flavor coupled with a slight hint of welcoming coconut aroma and taste. The deeply flavored, tender Satay beef slices were a perfect match for the noodles, the delicate scrambled egg adding another intriguing dimension. Those piping hot, crunchy and tasty chicken wings were as good as it gets! Lip smacking good?...Finger licking good? ... .etc?? Take your pick?! For our choice of complimentary beverages. One of us decided to venture outside the box and ordered a weird Lemon with Ribena sparkling water . A most intriguing combination and apparently a hot version was also being offered?! All in all, another great casual place with good food and friendly service for my collection of worthy food destinations.

I m always hesitant to order pork chop baked rice at HK tea restaurants, because I am extremely sensitive to pork that is not 100% fresh. I feel some restaurants tend to use pork that is not fresh for this dish to save a few bucks, particularly, because they thought the tomato sauce could cover up that taste. I decided to give it a shot at Cha Kee because I just really wanted to have it today, and damn, Ive got to say I was extremely impressed by the baked pork chop on rice here. It was perhaps one of the best I ve ever tasted in recent years, after visiting countless HK tea restaurants. The tomato sauce itself is perfect - sour and sweet in the best way possible. The pork chop? Excellent. Not only is it super fresh (unlike how it is sometimes served in other Hk tea restaurants), but the texture, the cut and the flavours are all perfect. The uniquely juicy thick cut was nicely coated in panko and cooked to crispy perfection. Every bite is a satisfying, pleasant surprise. While it is not the cheapest in town, it comes with a free drink (and the ice drink is the same price!) I will definitely come back often.

It is a really good place to eat. We went there for lunch and it was good. The waitress was really kind and they give some free lollipops to the kids. They give 1 menu for eat person and it was about $11-14 per person. Each meal comes with a drink and you don t need to pay for cold drinks which is really good since other restaurants need you to pay. They have a TV so you can see the popular foods that you may like. They also give you butter, sugar, spoons, forks, knifes. They will give you some kid friendly knifes too. They also have decors. The overall price was about $50 in total.

I had no idea this place was here until a colleague mentioned it. It s a tiny place, and there s usually a wait, but because it s HK cafe style dining, people are usually in and out pretty quickly. This is to be expected. If you re looking for spacious fine dining, this isn t the place. But if you are looking for some comforting HK style baked rice, noodles and French toast, they got it. I usually get baked pork chop rice and I m on the lookout for really good ones and Cha Kee is up there. I enjoyed it as it wasn t overly cheesy and sweet. The only thing I d say is I wish the rice was more fried like, a better fried rice base. But other than that, I d definitely go back and have it again. They have daily specials as well and I want to try their baked bolognese spaghetti. Good HK style milk tea as well.

What I love about this place is you dont need to pay extra for changing to cold drinks, and asking for a container to take out if you cant finish it. very inclusive for this point. The place opens on time and fills up quickly, we lined up before the open hours so we can be the first ones to be seated. Otherwise, you can wait. It wont take so long, IMO, as the foods serve pretty fast mostly.

A little bad experience sharing: (Richmond Hill s tea room reporter wrote that the dining time for each table is 45 minutes, but if there is a male employee (or shareholder), he keeps using tricks and small tricks to make the meal last longer. It took less than 45 minutes for people to leave after finishing their meal. It took less than 45 minutes for him to arrive at the restaurant. I dont appreciate this service attitude. They say in the restaurant each table is allowed to have 45 mins for the meal. However, they tried to hurry you up to get out of the restaurant before the so- called given time if the food on the table is finished / nearly finished. I would say that kinda of service stinks. I would never recommend people who eat slow, especially ppl with kids to go there to enjoy their time at the restaurant. I have no tolerance for this kinda service!

December 22, 2023

Very bad experience. The male staff asked me to check the bills after 30 mins and then kept asking me to take away to drink for 3 times. Finally he said the long wait outside and asked me to leave but I was just there for 35 mins! So rude and bad service!!

I have been to the Hong Kong-style tea restaurant several times recently. The food is good and worth visiting again and again. It was originally rated as a four-star restaurant because the frozen drinks are free of charge and the service is super friendly, so it is a five-star restaurant! The barbecued pork and egg rice are good .

Pretty good HK cafe food! Unlike the others that have been around for a long time, the food at this place feels a little more premium, especially the milk tea. Its not overly sweet, and has a good balance of milk to tea. On the other hand, they do charge a bit more than other places.

Food was ok but the portions are quite small compared to the price. Only a few pork chop in the fried noodles and the shredded pork with pickled vegetables was also not enough. Disappointed at their service, the staff checked the bill after we finished our meal like few minutes even no one was waiting for seat. The milk tea is not authentic. Returned disappointed. There are better tea restaurants in Toronto. There is no need to go to this one.

Solid 3.5 stars. The food here is solid and very nice portions. The signature baked pork chop rice is definitely a goto! The pickled vegetables vermicelli is another comfort food to indulge upon for the warm up feeling. The French toast nuggets are a fun treat with a peanut butter centre surrounded by an eggy crunch smothered in the necessary corn syrup and a dab of condensed milk. The drinks here hot or cold are included with most meals and the staff are plenty efficient and courteous. Many more meals to enjoy here!

Excellent food at Cha Kee! Ordered the signature baked pork chop with spaghetti and the Baked and Match sets. Keep in mind, this isnt your regular baked pork chop - it is breaded and pan fried, then baked with your meal so they were thoughtful about this. Pork chop was tender and juicy. Sauces complimented the food well and were delicious. Service and staff werr attentive and friendly and the restaurant was clean. The staff here spoke English, Cantonese, and Mandarin fluently. Menus are printed in both traditional Chinese and English. They accept cash, debit, and credit cards as form of payment. I feel the tea-based drinks could be better as it appears they steep Lipton tea exclusively while most other HK-style cafes use a blend of Ceylon teas (e.g. Marathon Cafe.). While it was a strong, bold cup of tea, it was a bit one-dimensional and not the smoothest. Not a huge complaint but an important detail for potential customers not to set super high or unrealistic expectations. Having said that, I would recommend trying out Cha Kee. This will be my new go-to for a quiet lunch or dinner on weekend shopping runs. Also to note - at the time of this review, the Plazas parking lot appears to be under maintenance or renewal so at times, parking can be limited depending when you come.

BBO Pork and Smooth Scrambled Eggs on Rice $13.99 Wanzi wings with rice Fake Shark Fin Soup with Rice $11.99 Baked tomato sauce double grilled rice or spaghetti Baked Pork Chop & Chicken Steak with black pepper Sauce on Rice/Spaghetti $16.99 The food is what you would expect from a Hong Kong cafe. Zero star for hygiene. There was a hair on my fried chicken black pepper rice. The hair was like 2inch long and its white colour. I was dumb enough not to take a picture of it and accidentally flicked the hair away. The staff thinks its chicken hair but theres not way chicken hair is that long. Anyhow, they gave me another chicken but I had to wait another 15mins or longer, so my rice and the sauce was cold already. They should of just gave me a new order or something. Zero star for parking...its not there restaurants but currently they are having some construction at the plaza. Zero star for price. Their pricing is a bit more expensive compare to other Hong Kong cafe result so same quality of food. One star for their service. Its true their service is good. One star for the taste of their food. Its good but its not very special. Just typical Hong Kong food. But they do know how to do business. They dont have afternoon tea special on weekends. They dont charge extra for cold drinks but I drink hot anyways.

Quick service, we did takeout during pandemic. The pork chop with pasta in thick tomato soup was alright, soup tasted more like can soup. Curry balls was delicious, a bit spicy and lots of curry sauce. Curry braised beef was okay too, the meat is a bit on the fat side but the giant potato was a surprised. Cold lemon tea/ milk tea was good. I guess we heard so much positive feedback about this restaurant, we were having higher expectation. Overall food was good but nothing over expectation or would make us go back.

Currently offering a few outdoor spots (no indoor dining as of yet, but plenty of takeout orders). We got the classic house special baked pork chop rice you would at any other Hong Kong-style cafe. The ketchup was a tad sweeter than I would have liked, and very minimal cheese on the top. Not exactly the best one I have had, but decent enough to satisfy a craving. Perhaps it is better when it comes straight out of the oven? The curry fish balls were better and make for a good side snack/appetizer!

So this rating is purely for the signature baked pork chop rice in tomato sauce. I have about 25 years of baked porkchop rice consumption experience so take what you will from this review. Opinions vary but here goes. I can tell you exactly what is wrong with this dish. First off the recipe has the makings of a star dish. 1. Breaded pork cutlet, check 2. Fried rice base, check 3. Lots of sauce, check 4. Cheese topping, check. BUT the execution is unfortunately subpar. 1. The breaded pork chop is too soggy, i ve order this in store and online and there is no difference, the pork chop has not been freshly fried so its left to sit around and the breaded casing gets soggy and doesn t stay crispy which takes away the purpose of the breading, it becomes a soft encasing like eating staled chips from a month old opened bag or something that has been left out at a karaoke bar for a week. 2. The fried rice is mushy so there is too much water to begin with and was not left to rest before frying possibly with too little oil. 3. The sauce is ketchup only. Not appropriate for this sauce, not eating french fries here. 4. Stingy on the cheese. Needless to say, a disappointment.

This place is definitely overhyped. It is too expensive. The taste is not too bad but portion is tiny. I do like their milk tea. It labels itself as authentic Hong Kong cuisine but the varieties are very limited. If you dont like curry, tomato sauce and scrambled egg, you pretty much dont have much choice left. Authentic is just a gimmick to attract NON-Hong Kong people who cant tell the difference. As a real HongKonger, I wouldnt come here for authentic HK food.
