As soon as we walked in, we noticed a very comforting and welcoming atmosphere. Our server was very friendly and immediately came to greet us. Our food was also brought in very quickly and the quality was incredible. We definitely recommend this restaurant if you are looking to eat out with your family!

Excellent local Italian spot. Great food and nice atmosphere (given its a strip mall parking lot). Dietary restrictions: My wife is Celiac. They do a great job accommodating celiac with GF pasta (although a pricey upgrade of $5).

Service slow, food did have any tase. Salad wasn t fresh lettuce was wilted. Pizza not taste.

Paper covers on white table cloth cheapens the already bland un-Italian atmosphere of the restaurant. Ordered gnocchi which was made of green (!) pasta, hard to chew and difficult to digest. Never had such gnocchi in 70 + years of eating it in scores of restaurants. On the whole, it was a disappointing experience, Pity.

Good service but the pasta dishes tasted bland

First time here. Great service. I would not recommend Chicken Asiago or ossobuco.

We visited on a week night for dinner. The place was a bit slow for the night but the service was amazing. The waiter was very attentive to our needs, the food was great! Vegetarian options: There are a few vegetarian options available, the pizza was great! The crust was amazingly crunchy on the outside, the toppings were great. The pasta that was ordered, we added a bit of Italian chilly oil to the top which enhanced the flavor.

Staff and service is great as per usual, pizza stands the test of time. The pasta however, has gone way downhill. Most of our orders noodles were overcooked, and sauces lacked cohesion. For $30 youd expect fresh vs frozen seafood. Not a deal breaker, but will probably stay clear of the pasta next time.

My friends and I had a very good experience. The food was great. Our server was very patient and friendly. We were able to sit and chat after our meal. Our server made sure we had our drinks topped up. The restaurant has a very relaxing atmosphere.

Good day to all. This restaurant does not deserve an Italian name, the first is a basket of bread for money, but I have been to many Italian restaurants and a basket of bread was, brought as an aperitif, the second is the service minus 1 star because I had to ask for chilis hot oil separately with the pizza, no one offered it and when you call the waiter the reaction is negative. The food is delicious but the service is minus 5 points.

Had an amazing time at Il Formello. Food was great, quick and very reasonably priced. I don t usually write reviews but I wanted to highlight our server Nathan. He was extremely kind and respectful, always making sure all our wants were met. He made the experience one too remember.

What a fabulous owner. Michael is gentle, soft spoken, and very kind. Our server, Alessa, was wonderful- very polite and attentive. One of our pastas came out too al dente, but that was addressed by the owner right away. The food overall was good and made to order. The level of service is definitely 5 stars. Back in Feb 2024 we were served Roma Insalata that was absolutely non edible. Discussing the issue with restaurant manager she offered us two free Roma Insalata on our next visit and gave us the card that specified this offer...Fast forward to July 2024, we decided to use it and we passed this card to our server(Nathan). He accepted it, even checked back with the management and came back saying all is good. This time around, salads were perfect as well as main courses and drinks. But to my surprise both salads were part of the bill. Unfortunately, I trusted Nathan(who seemed to be nice guy) and didnt check bill thoroughly, only noticing this next day. So, its shame on server who is rather intentionally than non intentionally charged us for the items that promised to be free. Hopefully, restaurant management are monitoring customer reviews and will look into this person treatment of the restaurants customers and make conclusions out of this situation, but were done coming to this location again.

This is a pretty good restaurant to eat in. Service is pretty good. Clean tables. Overall it is worth a visit

Wow I really wanted to like this food. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but half their menu was missing and I got a $100 bill after sending 2 microwaved items back.

Title: Disappointing Experience with Rude Management I just visited Il Fornallo , Richmond Hill , with high expectations, but unfortunately, my experience was marred by a rude and unaccommodating manager. Despite requesting a specific table, the manager refused my request without offering any alternative or explanation. The dismissive attitude and lack of customer care were truly disappointing. While the food may have been good, the poor service and managements attitude overshadowed my entire experience. Hopefully, the management will take customer feedback seriously and work on improving their service.

Carbonara was meh pesto pizza was good

It was Mothers Day weekend so it was very busy but we came early around 5pm reservation because we had a 5 month old with us. The restaurant setup isnt very family friendly. We were seated at a booth up some stairs so we had to leave our stroller in the washroom hallway. There isnt a change table in the washroom so I had to take my baby out to the car to change her. The booth was quite cramped. It was difficult to get our servers attention and we had to ask multiple times for things like boxes and the bill. My baby hated the atmosphere, I think it was overstimulating for her. She was upset for most of the dinner and cried loudly. They (servers and other customers) were thankfully very patient with us and I was able to get baby to sleep in my arms for the rest of the dinner. I shared the carbonara and pizza with my partner. The pasta was very delicious (pancetta was crispy). The pizza was ok, nothing special. The tiramisu was ok to me as well, but the rest of my family found it disappointing. I had a hard time enjoying the experience because my baby was stressed out there so I probably wont come back with her. Kid-friendliness: Not suitable for young children

Gluten free pizza is terrible , worst I ve ever had and they charge $4.00 dollars more for substitute crust. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free pizza dough is not good. Middle felt like raw dough and crust was so hard burnt you couldn t bite it.

I was actually really pleasantly surprised by my visit here! The service was really great, our waiter was super kind, attentive, and funny. I also really enjoyed my pasta! The portions were generous so it made the price point okay.

We went with my family to celebrate my wife birthday anniversary. Few days ago I was checking my credit card balance and I wondered why this bill was too high. I checked everything we ordered and finally, we realized that we paid double tips, a fault (trick?) that is becoming very frequent in some restaurants!. An 18% gratuity was already included in the bill (because of a large group) but we werent advised and the machine presented the tip menu, which my wife gave another 18%. Unfortunately for us, we didnt kept a copy of the order or the bill. Just sharing my bad experience.

Overworked chef(s) making 250 meals (place was packed). When places get too big, they become unmanageable. Choose a quieter place for that loving, home cooked, loving feeling. Dont just be another number or addition to someones profit line. Food was al dante. Was i asked how i liked it? No. Too rushed. Friendly, kind staff got me extra cheese though. Meal was average or less. Another lady sitting with me felt the same way. Ordered Fettucine Alfredo w 3 cheeses. Vegetarian. Her fish serving was ok but inadequate portion. She left hungry. Reasons I wont return: 1. Prices went up and quality is way down 2. Owners son spoke down to our kind server in front of guests 3. The cocktails do not come to the table as described. They either dont have the ingredients or are too cheap to keep them in rotation 4. The coffee is awful. Change of beans isnt working

I came here on a Tuesday evening with a friend and her daughter to catch up over dinner. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived around 7pm so we were seating right away. I wish I remembered the name of our waitress because she definitely deserves a shout out for her exceptional service. I ordered a seafood pasta dish, my friend ordered pizza (gluten free and with vegan cheese), and her daughter ordered a kid size pasta dish. The pasta dishes were amazing. My friends pizza was too spicy for her so when our waitress asked how everything was, she said it was too spicy for her liking. Our waitress offered to take it away and ask the kitchen to make a brand new one for her. My friend and I were shocked of the offer because you dont see many restaurants offering that. Our waitress also went above and beyond to ask the kitchen staff of the spicy ingredients in the pizza, so that we could be aware for future dining, which was good to know! (They put chilli flakes in the sauce). Overall, we had a great experience! I wish Ive come to try this restaurant sooner, as I live in the neighbourhood but never dined here. But I can say Im glad I finally tried them!

We enjoy going to Il Fornello for their pizza and pasta. Our dining experience was amazing. Thank you to our server Bianca who always goes above and beyond. She is very attentive, provides clear menu explanations and is very friendly and professional. The well paced food delivery to the table is also appreciated. We will definitely be returning again. Good food, but the portions we were given were smaller then one that belongs on a kids menu. Very disappointed. Manager took it as a joke and said we must have been too hungry.

Very less options for vegetarian , also we asked few times for hot sauce they didnt give us and minutes later we saw Franks hot sauce at a serving desk. I dont recommend eggplant pizza to anyone. The restaurant was very cold temperature wise. I m not visiting again at this branch.

Horrible, horrible service. We went to celebrate my dads birthday and we did not enjoy any moment of the evening. When we got there, it took 45 minutes to get any order taken. The waitress was clearly overwhelmed and there should have been multiple servers working a large party. The manager was RUDE. I have never met someone who spoke to customers like this. He was blaming us for having too many requests but half of the food came out wrong, everything took an extended amount of time and I could not believe the way he spoke to us. We will never be returning to this restaurant and I hope they improve on their customer service. You should not let your personal feelings and emotions interfere with your professionalism but the manager clearly let that happen.

We visited for the first time on Saturday evening for a family event. Our group was large, around 40 guests. Excellent service from Alessa and Gabriel! They were professional, friendly and really contributed to making it a lovely evening. The food was excellent, wines and cocktails were very nice, with a lot of choice. I ve been to many other Italian restaurants around the same price range, but for the price, the quality was okay and the portion size veryy small. I looked at other google reviews prior to going, thinking my pasta amount would look like the images shown, but it did not. It was my friend s birthday and I asked the staff if we could store the cake in the fridge. We were later charged 20 dollars for the service of holding the cake while we ate. If we were told beforehand of this extra charge we would have kept the cake on the table. This is outrageous business. I would not recommend this restaurant to others. There are better Italian places not too far from this store.

Excellent experience at Il Fornello Richmond Hill. It was so refreshing to have several creative vegetarian and plant-based options on menu. Pasta was delicious. Our server, Bianca, was outstanding - friendly, helpful, and very efficient. The main thing that would have made our experience better was noise level - very loud, even in our very comfortable and relatively secluded corner booth. This said, we still enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and will definitely return.

Underwhelmed to say the least.. I came here for my buddies birthday on Friday and although the service was executed well, my dish, a Rigatoni with beef tenderloin and mushrooms in a brandy cream sauce was lacking flavour and portion.. with these two factors in mind, I had a hard time justifying the price. Given the outcome of the overall experience, and the sheer number of Italian restaurants it will be hard for me to come back to this restaurant.

Average typical American styled Italian like restaurant. Easy to find parking spot. Pasta wasn t the best, not enough pesto. Pizza was unique. The restaurant itself is nice and clean with a bright bar.

I recently visited Il Fornello with my friends for a weekend catch-up and found the atmosphere to be quite inviting and comfortable. We were greeted by our server, Bianca, who provided outstanding service throughout the night. She was friendly, helpful, and made sure we had a fantastic dining experience. We ordered a few different dishes to share, and while some pasta dishes were not as flavorful as we had hoped, the pizza was really good. We had a couple of vegetarians in the group, so having quite a few vegetarian dishes in the menu was a pleasant surprise. The noise level was a bit loud, making conversation a bit challenging at times, but we still had a great time. Overall, Id recommend Il Fornello just be prepared for a bit of noise on weekends and also some inconsistencies with the food.

Nice spot for our family lunch. They allowed us to choose our table in its own little area, which was important to us with two rambunctious toddlers.

A good variety of tasty plant based options.

It s disappointing how they ve cut back so much on the food. We ordered a Burrata cheese board for 4 of us, and it literally says you get 4 pieces of toast. Since the toast is only a half size (quite small), would it be so costly to include some more to go with the cheese & tomatoes? I ordered the seafood linguine; before, you d get a reasonable quantity of seafood now only 4 small mussels, 3 shrimp and calamari (couldn t even find a scallop). Even the quantity of pasta was so much smaller! My family even commented on how small the portion was. If we go to Grazzie or even Scaddabush, which aren t as fancy, you get much more and it s equally tasty. My son ordered the Carbonara pasta and he finished it so quickly (not because he ate fast, but there was also so little pasta). The pizzas were a good size, but the Gorgonzola pizza had so little cheese on it not very tasty. I realize that food prices have gone up. Yet, if you re sacrificing on the food, it isn t worth it. I think it would be more acceptable to increase the price a bit ($3 to $5 more), but offer a reasonable amount. The atmosphere is still very nice and the service was very good. Yet, before the restaurant was very busy this time there were only 7 tables occupied (so many empty tables). Meanwhile, we drove past Milestones and you could see that they were packed. I think this tells you that people feel they get better value at other places. Very disappointing; it was one of my favourite places.

I should start by saying I have never had a bad meal at any Il Fornello. Very consistent for a city chain. This location offers an open concept good vibe feel. Somehow they continue to find great staff despite the work shortage as the service is generally exceptional. Food is good and value is fair. We will be back.

I have mixed feelings. Great place and service, unfortunately not all food was great. Our lasagna was heavenly no complaints, but the fried calamari (soggy / chewie), Fettuccini gamberi (insipid) and pizza (avg) were disappointing. Perhaps it was not a good day for one of the cooks, so will give this place another chance.

Bad presentation, and worst than it was the food taste. We ordered pasta penne al fresco, pizza for kids, gamberi fettucine and another grilled chicken pasta. Grilled chicken pasta has uncooked chicken pieces vegetarian pasta missed adding any effort for presentation and just the penne pasta with sauce. Waiters took long time to serve though nowhere close to full on a sunday evening. We were disappointed. On complaining, the manager changed the veg pasta option to another dish, but that dish also lacked any taste. Not a good experience, not sure if will try again. Vegetarian options: Bland, tasteless, lack presentation.

We went to Il Fornello as a medium group of 8 people. The food was great, everyones dishes were delicious. We shared a few pizzas as well. I would go back as a group or as a couple. Its a nice environment. This was my first time back since they renovated. The service was great, very kind and polite. Id recommend trying it for yourself.

We dined here for Mothers Day as a party of 4, they did not bring the meals at the same time, so by the time we all had our plates in front of us, I found my food was cold. I ordered the fish from the Mothers Day menu, the vegetables had not even been warmed up, I found my fish warm (not hot) and even a bit uncooked. Then we ordered the chocolate cake where the description states warm chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream, it was completely cold. I understand the restaurant was busy but this is not OK. The service staff are nice but they brought water half way through our meal and no bread basket!

I ve been to this restaurant 3 times! Dine in for the first time! Kinda rude staff. Our server was kinda rude! We asked for something and she didn t even reply and left! The second time they didn t let us in the patio because of our dog and I was like what s the point of patio then! So we didn t order and left! Third time i just ordered take out because my sister liked their pizza the first time so I ordered it. They expected tip for take out order which is stupid! And the guy as soon as he saw that I m giving cash the exact amount he left and didn t even offer my receipt. This restaurant is a joke! The owner is always there but the staff are always rude no mather what! Not recommended!

I come back time and time again for the fig pizza, but this round I opted to try something different & of course, was not disappointed. You cannot go wrong with pizza from here. I also had the chicken parm but was disappointed to see it a bit overcooked. I will be back for more pizza no doubt.

Atmosphere was fantastic. Food was amazing. And the Service is beyond great. 6 people in my party dined on mothers day. The food was divine but just one single lamb chop was slightly undercooked and the manager on at the time ( who is a genuinely kind man) comped the meal and gave us all free desert. He did far more then what was necessary. He also brought out 3 more lamb chops even though only one was undercooked. The pasta has incredible GLUTEN FREE options that you could never tell are Gluten Free. The oils they use are top quality and the environment is full of beautiful pictures and paintings of the days of old. Ill be going back with my family for birthdays and other events.

Absolutely no complaints. First time back since the pandemic and it looks slightly different. A bit brighter. The staff was excellent and very attentive. We went around 6:30 on a Friday and it was not crowded so we were able to get a table right away. The server gave us plenty of time to decide what we wanted with no pressure. We had pasta with pulled lamb, and veal parmigiano. Both were exactly what we expected. Overall it was a very pleasant experience. It s a very cute family owned place saw a place with the same name in Positano :) Very cute pictures of them all over the walls. I enjoyed my experiences. Food is good; I recommend this place in the area. Service is good too it s very chilly inside though so dress warm otherwise it ll be hard to enjoy your food.

The food was decent overall. It is more on the pricey side. The service was excellent. Our server always made sure everything was fine and was nice enough to give us free espresso shots at the end of the dinner.

We order bread basket, was not fresh. We ordered a gnocchi in rose. It was extremely tangy and did not taste like rose. On giving this feedback, they argued and made the change. We did not like the food. Based on the crowd it felt food would be good. But I have had way better.

Decidedly average in all aspects. 2/4 dishes were meh with other two being acceptable but nothing that would match the prices being charged.

Nothing too special at all. The food was good, Caesar salad was the star of the show. Every dish we ordered really lacked a wow-factor to it, nothing was very memorable. Staff and service were average, very minimal interaction. I probably would never crave this place, but the location and parking are very convenient. Looks like it s popular for larger groups and parties.

It used to be one of my favourite placed to go to for Italian food experience. But after covid they probably changed the cheff, so the food wasnt as good as before. Arancini were too mushy and cold, meatballs were stiff and cold. The pizzas were too thin and not as good as other restaurants I visited that make oven baked pizzas.

Beautiful restaurant but our waitress continued to ask us if we wanted seperate bills (we were a party of 12) because it would take her a long time to get the bills ready. The restaurant was almost empty. She asked when we sat down...then before we even decided on dessert she asked again because if we didnt she could start the bills....then after dessert she asked again. She was not very friendly and seemed to want to get rid of us. We wont return.

We have a group luch at this authentic Italian restaurant. Server was very friend, patient and helpful. Every appetizers and main dishes were great. Patio seating was nice too.

Came here on a Saturday night and it was at maybe 60% capacity. Wasn t very busy so I was expecting our food to come out fresh and piping hot. Sadly that wasn t the case, most of the dishes were warm. - Arancini: 4.3/5 - came with 3, we were a group of 4, so needed to add $$ for another one - Calamari Fritti: 3/5 underwhelming, wasn t crispy enough, only saving grace was the sauce was good - Penne Capri: 3.8/5 flavour was good (I think it needed more salt, but my family thought it was fine), could ve used more toppings (ie veggies) - Lamb chops: 3.5/5 what a skinny lamb! the pieces were very small, and it needed more seasoning. Mashed potatoes were good. - Pizza Fichi: 4.5/5 figs were so good, crust was just right, yum! Overall, atmosphere was good. Our server Mike was attentive (he remembered and brought over a piece of cake which was kind of him). We got a comfy sofa seat which was nice. Price was reasonable for what we got! Would come again in the future to try other dishes. Vegetarian options: They have a whole vegan menu!

We ordered two pasta, which was average. One of it was very bland. Portion was good though. Service was also great. Our waitress was super attentive.

Stingy serving of pasta for $22.75...did not even fill half the bowl. Left still hungry. We were entertaining guests so did not want to make a scene on site, but contacted restaurant twice with no response. Will not return.

The service was excellent and the staff were very welcoming and friendly! The food is delicious and has good portions. The food was served quickly and the seating was spacious for a large group. I would definitely recommend coming here for dinner or a special event.

First time here, last time here. The food is very bland. A few of the older people in our group loved the size of the portion of the chicken parmesan but never said anything about it being good or bad... I had fettuccine Alfredo with their supposed house made sausage. I have no idea what this was.... the sausage was ground in with the Alfredo making it sort of a meat sauce. Not desirable. The one positive note is that the pasta was cooked perfectly. This is more and more rare these days Im finding. The service was not good. Our server was completely overwhelmed. I had one small glass of water the entire meal. The others who had soft drinks had to ask for refills. Lastly, gnats where flying all over. They landed in the oil and got stuck and were a flgeneral annoyance constantly, and I mean constantly having to be swatted away. Yes there really are that many. It was really off-putting on top of the rest of the really awful experience

Horrible place, doesnt deserve the 1 star. The food doesnt taste good, bad customer service and rude staff, portions are small for the price, so much better restaurants out there. Do not recommend.

Perhaps I dont have a palate for true Italian food, but the plant based lasagna I ordered was too sharp for my tongue. A lot of tomatoes and perhaps too much vinegar forced me to just eat the sheets of lasagna, but even that was tough. Didnt even finish 15% of the food. Vegetarian options: They have a separate plant based menu.

Nice fair priced Italian restaurant, with rising dinning (and everything else) prices, I m glad Il Fornello still kept their prices reasonable. Love the pizza, great tasting and consistent. We re a large group celebrating friend s birthday, our server was very accommodating, and enhanced the experience. The antipasto plate was great for 4-5 people, pasta was also well done. Been here a few times and not once we were disappointed.

We had a lovely evening there with family. Experienced crew, excellent timing in serving drinks and antipasto orders, followed by main courses! Food was very well balanced in terms of spices and ingredients (not too fat, not to cheesy, not over seasoned)! They have a good collection of red and white wines. The night we ate there was not that busy, Im not sure how they perform in hectic situations!

Funny! They cut me off. Earlier today, so I can attest that I was fine. Just interesting. Food was really good, wine was fine if you like Italian wine I only had the Pinot Grigio but it was good! Caprese salad was excellent. Just so shocked when I order another glass. Maybe it was me, but I cannot remember being any sort of obnoxious Keep in mind I had 5 glasses, but my tolerance is strong I thought it was weird that THAT was the measure, but what do I know. Good luck to them!

VERY Disappointed. CHEF is so RUDE! And food is MEH - dont waste your time or money here. Ordered a steak to be cooked medium rare which should be a warm, soft and juicy and a beautiful pink throughout. What we got was firm and grey with a tinge of pink. The server was great and apologised and said he would bring a new one. Instead, we got an angry chef come out and tell us that we dont know anything about food - that hes been cooking for 50 years and that what we got was medium rare. When we tried to explain that a medium rare steak should be pink, he continued to argue and tell us that we didnt know what we were talking about. He finally agreed to send out another steak..... which of course ended up being OVERCOOKED AGAIN. This time there was a thin strip of pink in the centre of a swath of grey, dry and overcooked meat. SUCH A SHAME - to have a so-called experienced chef ruin 2 cuts of meat. We dine-out often but have never had a chef come out and argue with us - the owner should not let this COCKY and DELUSIONAL man disrespect his/her customers like this. Especially when hes so clearly WRONG! Dessert was a real disappointment - Italians worldwide will be crying and begging for forgiveness from every Italian Nonna on behalf of the person who made this homemade tiramisu - it was just nondescript... and soggy. Espresso shots were teeny-tiny - youre lucky if theres even a tablespoon of coffee in the cup. Blink and youll miss it! Cocktails - didnt hit the mark - they may sound good, but again not exceptional. Definitely not as promised in the descriptions. It was hard to finish the first ones, let alone wanting a second one. Atmosphere/ decor - uninspiring, bland, cold, boring. Not an inviting space for dining. This experience was made entirely from the waiter, Guy. He gave me the best service I ve ever gotten. From bringing entrees early, to cutting cake for a birthday, and having amazing conversations, Guy made this a memorable night. I highly, highly recommend to come to this restaurant for the amazing service from Guy and food from Il Fornello!

Manager was passive aggressive and condescending. We got pasta which was good. But then we ordered the funghi pizza and it was just a bunch of oil on the thinnest crust with way too many mushrooms. It was like eating oil + mushrooms. So we ask our server if it s possible to take it off our bill. Server was nice, no complaints. The manager comes and talks to us for a good five minutes passive aggressively blaming us for not liking the dish. She starts with: we can t take it off the bill, did you even read the menu?, you should ve asked to speak with the manager instead of placing the responsibility on the server, you should ve told the server sooner so maybe we could ve gotten a better pizza, etc. Basically blaming us for not liking a not-so-good dish. Also she mentions how it is a favorite of many, but goes on to say: however it is not my favorite . She then says after all of that: she can take it off the bill. I m sorry we didn t like your dish, but I really did not appreciate Victoria s condescending nature. P.s. Other Italian restaurants are much nicer and forgiving when you make a mistake. Also read other reviews that said she printed a receipt of (9) $60 gift cards with HST, which is illegal, and also how she was patronizing another customer for a miscommunicated order. First and last time here. Maybe think twice about supporting a business that has someone like this as the manager/owner.
