My partner and I made a reservation here for the blue fin Tuna omakase on our anniversary. We had an amazing time thanks to our chef and the high quality of service and food. Our chef's choice was cheek of Tuna, which was a pleasant, fatty surprise. We were lucky to come a day after the cutting show to experience a more intimate dinner and some fresh ingredients. The Maguro Uni mini donburi was probably my favourite dish of the night, but everything was delicious and made with care. We look forward to visiting again!

This place is honestly a low-key hidden gem for fresh sushi. The chef is very skilled and truly passionate about his craft, showcasing a remarkable talent for creating both traditional and innovative dishes. Each piece of sushi is not only beautifully presented but also bursting with flavor, using high-quality ingredients that elevate the overall dining experience. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it perfect for both casual dinners and special occasions. The price is also great, especially considering the quality of the food and the skill involved in its preparation. You definitely get more than your money’s worth here. The staff is attentive and friendly, adding to the warm vibe of the restaurant. Whether you’re a sushi connoisseur or trying it for the first time, I highly recommend giving this place a visit. You won't be disappointed!

Attended for the blue fun tuna cutting show - excellent cuts of fish and appetizers. I would have loved to have seen more appetizers or variety of other foods to cleanse the pallette, as delicious as the tuna was. Service was very attentive and professional, would recommend for a unique evening out. The event has for served cocktail/buffet style where you were offered 1-2 pieces at a time and limited tastings of uni and fois gras.

I’ve been to ATO countless times, starting from when they first opened. Their service has always been excellent, and the Japanese sushi chef pays close attention to each guest. When they first opened, they even gave us some extra sushi with the omakase. For a while, their omakase menu price went up significantly, but it didn’t impress me more, so I felt the value wasn’t great and went less often. Recently, though, I’ve given it a few more tries, and now the menu is back to under $100 per person, featuring premium ingredients like toro and uni. Even the dessert is crown melon. I have to say, it’s a top-notch value!

We tried their seasonal harvest menu at $188 each. It came with lots of dishes. The food in general is pretty good, it was a good variety of seafood. The best items on this menu were the tempura crab, the steamed egg with crab, the fresh premium uni, and the toro sushi. The wagyu beef was made in a shabu shabu and served with a sesame sauce. It would have been much better served grilled to fully enjoy the taste of the beef. Most of the items were prepared in the kitchen. Only the sushi and the wagyu beef were prepared by the chef in front of us. The waitress was attentive and present throughout the meal to replenish tea and to quickly remove dishes.

The omakase lunch today was okay. The fish was fresh and the sushi rice was properly cooked and seasoned. My only complaint is “salmon” should not the served twice. As a matter of fact, it should not be served at all. For a $65 lunch, I think they can do better. Of charge a bit so that salmon is off the omakase. Additionally, knife skill is average. My Chu toro sashimi was paper thin and was falling apart. Dessert was house made yuzu ice cream. Not bad.

Had an amazing omakase experience here! Came for a lunch date and it was my partner's first time at an omakase, he absolutely loved it! We got the $48 lunch menu and added on 2 uni sushis. The quality of their fish was amazing, everything tasted so fresh! The staff and chef were also amazing, a small bone was in one of the sushis and the chef noticed it before my partner did, the chef then proceeded to make a new one for him. The uni was also amazing, it was smooth like butter, I'm still dreaming about it! For the quality and experience you get, the price is so affordable! I love that it's close by cause we will definitely be coming back!

July 26, 2024 - I had an amazing and wonderful first time going to an Omakase. My friends treated me to a nice bday dinner, I got some sweet friends! Everything was fresh and my goodness even the eel tasted so good, I don't think I've ever tasted eel like that. My friend said he didn't like the uni, he said it was a bit squishy. It did look a bit runny. But I don't eat uni enough to know if it was good or bad just by looking at it. However it tasted pretty good. The staff were all sweet and welcoming, the chef did an amazing job. The interior of each room was very nice and clean. Loved the aesthetics that they each had. I definitely recommend and would love to do this again.

Horrible system. Went to Bluefin show buffet for $440 for 2 people at 12/20 it was so god dam crowded , AND NO SEAT? , people running to the appetizers like a piglets WAY TOO MUCH OVER BOOKED and people bumping each other , my soy sauce was spashing because of people who just tried walk through the narrow hallway, GOT FOOD POISONING threw up 3 times having diarrhea also. Want to sue the restaurant 220 for each person? seriously ? for not even able to sit and have to watch people giving bad eyes to each other just because they wanted to walk in a narrow hallway? buffet ,but in a super small restaurant with 60 people inside there ? please say this is joking really destroyed our christmas mood . UNLIMITED drinks alcohol? makes me laugh .. yeah if you wanna line up for 30min and wait until people finished their sips and order other drinks with no manners like one by one buffet ? then go ahead OH BUT REMEMBER You get small amout less than half in your plastic glass seem like they are proud with Japanese chefs and quality but all I heard was Chinese . they gave me 10% off coupon for next time I see why and will never go again just go to 50box buffets

I was there for the Tuna experience. I felt that Ato oversold, which caused line-ups. The line-ups were moving quick however for that price point, I would prefer that there wasnt any. Also, the hallways are narrow, and there werent enough standing tables. I didnt get to join one of the uni dishes and the foie gras. They unfortunately ran out. I did get to enjoy a good amount otoro, sushi, sashimi and drinks. I was also expecting more from the cutting show, specifically seeing more than just the large sectional cuts. I was hoping to scoop the meat from the spine. That didnt happen. I dont think Ill take part in this experience again. I look forward to a normal dining experience at Ato.

They are all deceptive gimmicks. You need to have enough physical strength to queue up. Eating a meal is more tiring than playing a game of basketball. You can buy it for 250 dollars.

I ve been to Ato multiple times and have loved my experience each time. It is in my opinion the best omakase spot in the area. Highly recommend their uni seasonal menu that they had in the summer.

An unforgettable evening with real Japanese sushi made by Japanese chef and associates. Hoping my next experience can be 5 stars because the Uni we received that night I dont feel was very fresh (hence why they had it for special price). Other than that, everything was extremely amazing from start to finish. Cant wait to go back and try a more expensive set Omakase menu with Wagyu beef!

November 24, 2024

$1100 for 3 ppl. good quality fish but fish was all precut and from the fridge. alot of dishes were very average or only slightly above average. wouldnt allow any testing of alcohol when ordering a bottle. Even if there was a opened bottle at the bar and the staff didnt have any feedback when asked to describe details and flavors.

This was my 2nd visit to this place in six months. My 1st experience was good, with both the food and service offering good value. However, this time I was disappointed. The fish variety was quite ordinary, with nothing particularly special (i know I ordered $88 omakase)! Most of the fish selections were basic and, despite being fresh, tasted bland. The portions were also smaller compared to before. The tamagoyaki served at the end of the course was tasteless!!! While the service remained good, I might not return, as I ve tried other omakase options in the same price range that offer much better quality fish selections.

Solid Omakase option for uptown. Value is great for the generally pricy ingredients like uni and Japanese melons. Might need to top up with some extras if you re a big eater though. Sake pairing is spot on. Kid-friendliness: Staff is kid friendly. Wheelchair accessibility: Automatic doors. No stairs.

Summer lunch omakase, the ritual of delicious food~ The value for money for lunch is good, the ingredients are fresh enough, and the sushi technique is also on point. The only shortcoming is that the rice part tastes soggy and the combination with the fish fillets is a little soft, but it still beats most ordinary sushi restaurants. Under the dancing of Chef Etons fingertips, combined with different ingredients such as shiso, yuzu peel, black truffle, gold leaf, seaweed, etc., the warm, sweet, fragrant and fresh taste is achieved in the consistent sushi and tuna. Sea urchin hand rolls are passed around, saying goodbye to this summer with a hearty omakase~ I would like to praise their sea urchin. It is really fresh and sweet. It is the best quality I have tasted in the city so far.

The sushi chef ensured that each guest knew what each piece of sushi was, making his way down the bar to explain each piece of fish If you re looking for a well-priced omasake experience in the GTA that isn t going break your bank account, ATO is the place ! I went there with my girlfriend in celebration of my birthday last night for our reservation at 8PM for the UME menu. We were welcomed into a very nice entrance with an open windowed fridge of where all the fresh ingredients are. We were quickly greeted by a nice gentlemen and he guided us to our seat. This is my first time experience of what Omakase is and I have to tell you, this was a very memorable experience from the service to the presentation of the food. It was just spectacular! We also had to try the foie gras sushi and I have to tell you it did not disappoint at all! The chef was professional, quick and the way he prepared the nigiri was just truly an art form. If anyone wants to experience omakase for the first time, do so at Ato without hesitation!

Food were fresh and very good. I lost my original post. Google should have saved what I typed. Either way, food was better the first visit. Second visit flavor was not as good (chef used shiso leaves in toro hand roll, which overpowered the toro). The service was better during second visit. First visit, the server kept asking us to sit closer but there were lots of room on the sushi bar and we were already sitting at the edge.

Overall the place is not bad for the price but I would recommend going to a different place if you want to experience omakase. The pieces that they served were ok but I didn t like how there was only one chef for the entire room of 10 people. I ve been to other places before and it s usually a 1:4 ratio of chef to customer for omakase and I felt it allowed for a better interaction and the food was served immediately. I was also closer to the chef and was able to see the preparation process which is part of the experience. At Ato, I was sitting at the end of the table so I didn t see much and was served last for every piece. The service that they provided was still great but I would have liked to see another chef working in the room.

A great option for Omakase in Markham, 24 hour reservation is not required so you can just check if they have spot available just before heading to the restaurant. The sushi pretty impressed me, well balanced taste of the light sweet from the rice and the umami from the fish slices.

Par excellence! The freshest, tastiest, most well presented Japanese seafood based dinner, bar- none! To start, the tempura was crispy outside, not oily, and the seafood tastey and the vegetables firm nor soggy. Wagu beef morsel literally melted on my tongue. The taste of the stuffed squid ring surprised me with a delicate taste that I had never experienced before. If it were light, it would be like seeing a new color never seen before. After this, my pallette was reset with a creamy tofu dish that had a hint of Wasabi. If the sashimi was any fresher, the fish would be swimming its way to the table. Such perfect flavourful and texture. What I thought was desert after so many succulent plates turned out to a cold, diced medley of flavored sashimi in champagne glass, topped with caviar and gold flakes. This exclusive Japanese restaurant is a must go to, at least once. It is expensive. For the private room, five-star personal servers, and of course the extraordinary food, it is well worth the experience.

Our experience at ATO was almost perfect. Our reservation was at 12:30 on a Saturday and we arrived at around 12:33 because parking was surprisingly hard to find. We ordered two sets of the sashimi&sushi set and one unagi don. Our chef was great and explained all the dishes that were served. The food tasted great. The server also was quick to clear used plates and fill our tea cups. However, while we were still trying to finish the unagi don that we ordered half way through our lunch, our server approached us and asked if desserts can be served because the next group of guests would be seated at 1:30. We accommodated the request but this did negatively impacted our overall experience. We were not told there would be an 1-hr seating time limit when we made the reservation or when we were seated. The bill was also brought to us before we finish the dessert. We felt very rushed at the end and we couldve probably budget our time and choose not to order the unagi don if we knew the 1hr seating limit ahead.

It is a disgrace they called this place omakase... sad to say that those raving this place doesnt know what omakase nor good sushi are... cheap fake omakase Its just regular sushi and quality that they present one by one in a rush. The person that served us, he is Japanese but 100% not a sushi chef... We ordered sashimi and there was a big piece of scale on it at the front. When we told the chef that, he couldnt see it at first then he used his finger to poke the sashimi a few times asking what was the issue and insisted us to eat it... shocking... then the service manager came talked to him and she apologized and admitted it was not acceptable. My friend was pretty much grossed out already and we wanted to get up and leave then, but the manager asked us to give them a try. It got remade but much smaller portion. Also proper sushi chef would not just leave their towel like a mess, it should be folded properly but this chef, as you can see in the picture, a mess and the towel didnt look very clean. We finished the meal at the end and they gave us 15% off but we would never go back, only thing that was good was the negitoro handroll at the end, nothing else was good. Again just regular sushi with garnishes that didnt match, no special kinds of fish, served by a random Japanese that is not a chef at all.

Nice sushi restaurant to try but I wouldn t frequent it regularly. Very quiet so you can have a nice conversation with the person you re with. The chefs are very polite although it s very difficult to hear what they are saying sometimes. The food is prepared in front of you and is pretty good. Nothing amazing. The atmosphere to great but the large TV screens displaying random luxury beach locations to the side seem a little tacky.

No complaints about food, service and atmosphere. Chef is amazing and he was making foods in front of us. He was knowledgeable and explained the ingredients. The quality of foods is good. A lot of ingredients are from Japan. The tea is free and with real matcha. All you can eat ginger. The entire meal took us 3 hours from start to finish. Just $ warning: this place is $$$$$$$$$ expensive. Our meal ended up as $350 including tax and tips per PERSON. The cheapest solo meal is $180 per person. You cannot split a combo meal. If you go as a group, you must order same meal (dinner for x) so the waitress can serve you at the same time. If you insisted to order the cheaper solo meal, the waitress wont place the order and ask manager to go over the rules with you. The larger the group (dinner for 4 cost more than dinner for 2), the $ per head is higher (you can see from the menu).

Came here for lunch, the sashimi and sushi set is only $58pp The fish tasted great, it was soft and fresh. The pieces were served at a good pace and service from all the staff was great. We promptly seated when we arrived, and our waitress was very on top of things, constantly refilling our tea as needed. The ambiance of the place was very cute and modern. It looks like they have several rooms and they re all omakase style counter seating, which is cool because everyone gets a chance to see the chef prepare the pieces while enjoying their meal. The decor, tea cup and plate is also very pretty. They should get rid of the tv screens in the room though, it doesn t go with the aesthetic of the place and looks very out of place. Overall a great place for omakase, I would definitely check it out again!

It was my first time ordering from ATO and the service was truly unacceptable. Ordered a day ahead since I knew New Year s Eve would be busy, but I still had to wait for an hour at the restaurant upon pick up and still didn t receive my food. Ended up canceling the order on the spot since the whole family was waiting at home. Not a great way to end 2021. Can t judge the food since I never had a chance to taste it. Very disappointed. Word of advice, don t take on too many orders when your restaurant can t handle it!

$ This is definitely one of the prettier omakase takeout boxes you can get in the GTA. The nigiri selection consists of the typical standard cuts of fish. The fish was of good quality, but none of the sushi flavourings particularly stood out. I didnt get that melt in your mouth or head in the clouds kinda feeling, but the takeout still hit the sushi craving My real complaint was that some sushi rice fell apart (which shouldnt happen if the rice was well pressed). However, Ill consider this the quality loss associated with takeout sushi. Overall, I think $60 is a decent value for what youre getting.

This place is an absolute gem of a sushi restaurant -- I do not know how I didnt stumble across it sooner! Ato uniquely offers varieties beyond the usual fare of salmon, tako, and the like for great value. The ability to tailor your order to your exact wants/needs is unmatched by any other sushi restaurant in the GTA that I have visited thus far. Chef Nguyen was so exceptionally kind and accommodating when making my takeout order dream come true -- I cannot thank him enough <3. Not only was my customized takeout order artfully cut and arranged, but it came with an exceedingly generous bounty of side dishes (edible flowers, monkfish liver, tamago, various pickled Japanese vegetables, etc.), that did not fail to deliver in quality and taste. But, the star of the show, unsurprisingly, was the sashimi. Ample, flavourful, and -- above all -- positively fresh. I cannot recommend this place enough -- a definite must-visit for sure!

Got dinner for 2 sets. As other review said, definitely overpriced. Appetizers are same for everyone in photos for long time. Clear soup looks ok, but tasteless. The sashimi and sushi part is good. The steam egg I dont like the black truffle on it where it tastes too strong and ruin the egg. But this steam egg with seafood is nothing special afterwards (very easy to order from other restaurant). The worst part to me is their a5 wagyu beef. Not sure whats wrong (overcook or bad part served), it was chewy and dry at some part. This was the worst at wagyu beef I ever have so far. Not really recommended as theres better omakase restaurant to go.

If I could give 0 stars I would. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THIS PLACE, WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. The front page of there website has a special for $60. We submitted a deposit and we showed them their menu which is the first advertised page. The server said it was their takeout menu, yet no where on the page does it say takeout. They said they could not give us back the deposit and we had to order food from them or lose our deposit. We did not want to order as our experience was soured due to their false advertising. The rest of the menu is $200 per person. I kindly requested to speak with the manager who sent us to the receptionist instead. I requested to speak with a manager, the receptionist said it was the server. The receptionist said the deposit is from a third party company and they have never refunded the deposit so we had to order. They gave us the run around on a falsely advertise special on their page. After numerous requests that we did not want to order, they said they would call the company and request a refund. We received the refund 15 minutes later. Very shady and scammy behaviour from a place that said they could not return.... considering it was returned on a Saturday night at 9pm by a suposed 3rd party company. Atrocious customer service and poor management, do not waste your money or get scammed by this special.

We ve had the Bara Chirashi take out twice this month, and both times we re very impressed. The ingredients were absolutely fresh, I have to mention their ikura is marinated right-on, perfect balance on the flavor and every piece would give me that pop when bitten into it. The only slight disappointment was the uni, but it doesn t take away from the otherwise great meal. Other details of the take out are note worthy as well, the bag, box, chopsticks are custom designed and luxurious. We even saved the soy sauce containers for other uses and most importantly, the fresh wasabi is what we would normally expect while having high end omakase in Toronto. I was shocked to get that in a take out. We would love to visit later for lunch as the renovation looks very fancy. Dinner would be nice too, but it will be over our budget. (Update, visited on May 5th for lunch) Lunch omakase is a steal ($38), sushi still good, very comfortable seating, great service but there was something off about this meal. Maybe it s the type of wood and stone selection for the sushi bar not coordinating with the dining ware, maybe because the rice was slightly too hard for my taste, maybe the dimness of the lighting, maybe over usage of yuzu zest while wasabi was absent (couldn t taste it), or just a combination of it all so it is not leaving a perfect score on our cards.

Came here today to try out their $38 lunch omakase (special until end of July)! The price was super attractive and saw so many posts about it so decided to try it out. It was quite full today so I recommend you make a reservation, especially if you want to sit at the bar table. We were seated at the regular table. When you sit at the regular table, all the sushi is served together vs. One by one at the bar table. All the seatings are 1 hr so it is quite quick. One of us opted for the sashimi option, the rest of us got the regular omakase. For the sashimi option, it is additional $20 for 5 pieces of sashimi. I wouldve expected better/different sashimi for $20 - there was 1 scallop, 1 salmon, 1 toro, 1 fish skin, and 1 not sure. Salmon - very basic, fish skin piece - super chewy. The server didnt tell us what the sashimi was for this. The sushi came after, the server went over very quickly what the fish was. She suggested we eat the hand roll first as the seaweed would be soggy after... but it was soggy when we ate it first and you can see the seaweed was already soggy in the photo. I think its because everyone is served together in the seating so by the time we got ours, it was soggy. The sushi was good quality for the price, again there was salmon. I saw some people post they had uni, ikura, extra piece, no salmon etc. but not today, understandable since it was omakase, but it feels the value is not the same. We only have 1 scallop and rest was all fish, not much variety in type. Variety and value should be similar. We also requested extra wasabi, the server walked around a few times and apparently had forgotten until we asked again. Id say the omakase sushi is just the right about if you want to be just full, but Id have room for the sashimi as well. $38 is a fair price, but would be even better if it included the sashimi. With tax and tips it is around $50/person. Overall, probably a one time thing for me.

We ordered the Omakase set dinner and we were seated at the sushi counter. The place is quiet when we were there which is good less people means more space and social distancing between seat. The sushi is decent, it s not cheap, you get what u paid for. The fish seems fresh and has nice fish taste in most part. I wouldn t say it s the best sushi I had but it s decent quality and the chef seems to care about making good food. They grated their own wasabi fresh from the wasabi root! Thumbs up! They marinated their own ginger, which tasted abit different from other restaurants- different in a good way! But I think they can use a better nori.. it s really crunchy (good!)but lacks abit nori aroma taste. The overall experience is pleasant and service are great. For the two pieces of uni we received, although nearly sublime, I felt like we could have lived without spending another $25(+tax). I preferred the regular chirashi, but my friend who likes aburi/torched sushi, and likes mayo more than I do, really enjoyed the torched bara chirashi. 4.5 because we didnt feel like we got the best bang for buck on the uni and foie gras roll

It served Omakase in their lunch menu for $45 n $58 with more sushi included a bowl of miso soup . It is a great experience but I am not too impressed by the fish quality. Chef looked professional. I enjoyed watching him to prepare sushi. He would tell us what was the fish name each when he served us. Customers services are great. The host and waitress are very friendly. The place is also very beautiful with some Janpanese decorations on the shelf. Nice n quiet environment. A good place to try.

Celebrated my anniversary here - great service and amazing dishes, reminded me of the service and taste of Japan <3

Two people ate two bowls of rice for 160 yuan. The rice was cold and the meat was hot, which caused the oil to solidify quickly. The waitress kept interrupting to listen to our chat. I will not go there again.

Blue Fin Tuna Omakase I thought that the chutoro and otoro would win my heart, but that evening, it was another cut of tuna that stood out for me: the Akami tuna nigiri. Not sure why it won me over, the fish just tasted so nice! It wasn t fatty but it still felt like it effortlessly disappeared in my mouth the light brush of soy, and the rice, everything about it was so perfect, it was simplicity at its best. I didn t even need the uni, the caviar or fatty tuna to be awed , I was fully content. Overall, the Blue Fin Tuna Omakase was a very memorable experience. It was nice to hear the story of Chef Linh s culinary journey

Was here for the special bluefin tuna omakase. The fish was very good quality with fantastic texture and taste. Our sushi chef had over 38 years of experience and it shows. Would absolutely come back to try their other offerings For more great eats in the GTA and beyond, check out and follow me @instantonium on Instagram
