This is such a charming & refined Japanese restaurant! The booths have a cloth drape acting as a screen, providing a bit of privacy, which makes it perfect for catching up with old friends. The service is quick, and the staff is attentive, always ensuring our tea and warm sake are refilled. The dishes are incredibly fresh, cooked to perfection, and beautifully presented. It’s a busy spot, so be sure to make reservations!
Tried this location for the first time yesterday, as normal I go to the Scarborough one. Really enjoyed it, this location has a bit more space. The sashimi pieces we got were very chunky and fresh. Their ramen had huge of slices of pork which was surprisingly nice. They were busy even on a Tuesday night so definitely recommend calling ahead for a table. We had to wait 40 mins but it was worth it They gave you salad and ice cream with your meal which was also nice. My favorite thing to get is their seared salmon roll. Their service is pretty quick and the servers are nice. Maybe because it was busy but they forgot our order for of unagi pancake but we were pretty full so we didn’t end up reordering it.
Had a selection of food and they were all great. Quite liked the wagyu rolls, beef was very tender and just melts in your mouth. Would recommend trying if you want some sort of tasting sets and looking for something fresh ~
Came here on a recommendation from a friend. First impression, I liked that they had drapes to give a bit of added privacy between tables. Sushi here is a little bit pricier than others, but quality is great! We came during lunch, so there were good lunch specials. I got the Take bento and it came with lobster tempura! Delicious and cooked to perfection. I liked that the meal came with ice cream -- I got the Yuzu which was refreshing. Would definitely come back and would want to try the different kinds of rolls.
I've been to Aka oni (in scarborough) and had a general idea of what to expect but instead I was completely blindsided. Food and service was outstanding, the wait staff were extremely accommodating and provided impeccable service throughout dinner. Definitely a place I would come back to just for the experience. If anything, the atmosphere was very loud which was understandable due to how busy they were.
Food and service was oustanding; Proportions not so great, when compared to the expensive price. Although the website, previously stated they cater to expensive palates. Dishes came out super fast, the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and gave good recommendations. The menus were designed quite well. The dishes we ordered, were pretty true to the photos. The decor is aesthetically pleasing; a bit too busy for my eyes. This place is always busy, Definitely make sure you get a reservation. Overall I enjoyed the food, It's good to mix up the items, and share to maximize tasting more dishes.
We felt great and pleased at this restaurant, especially after our unpleasant dinner at an Oyster restaurant closed by! Our host and server are very knowledgeable to their food and great history about their selection of sake on the list. Friendly smile and great service, we don’t even need to ask them to refill tea or sake for us, all automatic! These days, it is hard to find good server that’s with good manner and willing to actually serve you. Food is always good at this restaurant! Our sake taste really good! Definitely a place to come back all the time! Do recommend to make a reservation to avoid long wait time. We are lucky to have a table last night though. 😇
Appreciate very much that their fish is super fresh. In particular, their salmon is soft. This strikes a big difference in comparison to other restaurants whose salmon is usually semi-frozen. Also appreciate that their miso soup is not salty. There is a bonus that a clam is found in the soup. It seems that they cook the soup with seafood and offer an extra layer of taste to the soup. Also appreciate that a piece of cloth is hung outside each table. While it intends to be a screen to ensure privacy, it does not form a cubicle and compromise the spacious feeling. The attendants are friendly, polite and diligent. Better have a table reserved in advance, or you may need to switch to another restaurant (or in my case I was luckily given an hour to finish my meal).
Rubbish restaurant, rubbish staff The meal is served late. Urging the customer to pay. Urging the customer to eat. Urging the customer to leave. It s for people to eat! There is a manner in the human food system It s not dog food garbage! The rubbish male employee wearing glasses is so rude!
Great price for the quality of food you are getting.
They have a new evening menu for after 9pm much affordable and fresh ingredients as usual.
The food here is good and the ingredients are fresh. They have a large selection of sushi with some premium options. The otoro and uni here are very fresh, which puts this place above most other sushi restaurants. It s quite pricey though, so if you come here you ll want to get stuff that s typically not available at other run of the mill sushi restaurants to get the most out of your experience. The service here is polite and speedy, however I was displeased at two things: 1. Their rule for reservations was that there is a 5 minute grace period after your reservation time. If you don t show up past that 5 min, you forfeit your reservation. Given such a short grace period, you would expect the restaurant to be timely as well not the case. Even with a reservation we waited 20 minutes past our reservation time standing in the small entrance space. They gave us a free edamame dish for the wait which is a nice gesture though I would rather they respect my reservation especially in light of the next point. 2. They let in some other customers that did not have a reservation ahead of us (they were drop ins that put their names down for a spot in line based on the conversation they were having with the host) because they complained while we simply waited for our reservation. We got seated a few minutes after but the principle of serving the loud angry customers ahead of customers that actually made a reservation and waited patiently irks me. So I guess an unethical life tip for people who want to get in here ahead of others is to be loud and angry.
One star off for the poor service I received last time.
Ramen was meh for its price
The Ramen there is very good I especially like the the beef tendon Ramen. And the crab Ramen. My son always gets a salmon lover sushi combo and the fish quality is good. After 9pm is happy hour with half price appetizers. Call around 7 pm to make a reservation.
First time I have had sushi in Canada that stands up to Japan experience. They have an extensive and varied sake menu. This was the most Japanese part: menu was mostly in Japanese only, and Google translate sucked. Tried their signature roll: avocado and bluefin tuna inside, topped with caviar, wagyu beef and uni. It was tasty, but i probably would not order again, as the flavours were lost in the mix. Ordered some unagi nigiri (photos don t do justice.. those pieces are massive), and a torched fatty tuna (chutoro) topped with foie gras. The foie and tuna were just an explosion of fatty richness. The sashimi came out and the size of the pieces immediately caught my eye. BIG. Each piece was an easy 4-5 bites. Fresh taste and texture. Excellent! Staff were very attentive, constantly checking in. The place is busy, and they turn over their table quickly. Reservations recommended. Will definitely return on next trip to Toronto.
we had dinner before at Aka-Oni it was awesome and enjoyable but also a bit pricey. So we tried the lunch menu today a lot of choices ,bento ,sashimi, ramen, don, different sides.i took almost half an hour to make my decision I really love the takowasa and bento ,fresh sashimi and savory black cod fish.I will definitely a must to go back for lunch and dinner
I love this place because it has a variety of stuff that I always crave for. They have fresh sushi and sashimi, grilled skewers, Japanese izakaya food and etc.
Food was good but the place is not very hygienic
The service is impeccable! Everyone is so warm and friendly and welcoming! And the food is perfect! The sushi is the best!
Super tasty! Excellent service!
Banger restaurant, highly recommended, on the pricier end but worth for special occasion
The standout feature was the incredible freshness of the ingredients. Each sushi piece was crafted with care, showcasing the quality that truly makes a difference. I was particularly intrigued by the Blind Box offering an exciting selection of eight surprise snack-sized Japanese appetizers. It was like a mini culinary adventure! Each item was delicious and varied, giving us a taste of new flavors and textures. While some items on the menu were a bit pricier, the quality and creativity made it worthwhile. The attention to detail and the unique offerings really set Sushi Haven apart from other sushi spots.
Lunch set was delicious the price is so valuable
Regular customer here. Really like the food, they re very creative with the menu & sashimi is always fresh. The dons & sushi are tasty too!
Love it Recommend The service food atmosphere five star plus Food : 5/5
This place was truly spectacular. The food was amazing, the service was lovely, and the ambiance was was unique. key stand outs for me were the garlic edamame, lobster devil don, and the beef hot pot. They also provide complimentary salad and ice cream at the end. Great restaurant and should check it out when in the area.
Great spot for Japanese izakaya. The sushi, rolls and sashimi are always delicious. All cuts of the sashimi are large. The food comes out quickly and the staff are attentive. All empty plates are removed promptly. The meal ends with a scoop of free ice cream.
Amazing Izakaya. The quality and presentation is AMAZING!! You have to go try it.
Definitely an amazing Japanese fine dining. The price is on the higher end but its worth a visit for the quality of their dishes!
Really good sushi, its expensive but thats usual for sushi.
food items are very pricey especially for the portion sizes menu is glorified with uni and wagyu we ordered an uni item and it looked more like uni puree the ramen is the best value - includes 3-4 toppings per bowl, and very flavourful broth the drinks were weak they will motion for you to wrap up near the end of your seat time limit
Amazing overall
2024.08 lot of food variety. Ramen, sake, grill, sushi. Must make appt, always full.
Sashimi and oysters were really fresh. Was celebrating friends birthday and they gave a small tofu cheesecake on the house. Everything was great!
Like the salmon tuna don and yuzu ice cream
This place has a lot of Japanese vibes. Although it looks small from the outside, the seating areas are surprisingly spacious. Food-wise, the Chicken Karaage was just okay, but the Miso Black Cod was a standout. The sear perfectly enhanced the marinated flavours, making it an absolute delight. The Ikura & Uni Don was enjoyable - though the Uni was a bit fishy, it balanced out nicely when mixed with the rice. The pickled Ikura added a nice touch. Theyve got some good lunch specials, like a big bowl of Unadon for $18. Not bad at all. Service was so-so, and so was the drink. Note that they dont allow outside drinks. But the complimentary ice cream after the bill was a nice surprise. Overall, its a decent spot to enjoy some Japanese flavours. Food (quality, creativity, consistency) - 4/5 Drinks (quality, variety) - 2.8/5 Ambience (interior design, cleanliness) - 3.5/5 Service (courtesy, knowledge, timeliness) - 3.5/5 Value (quality vs. price) - 3.5/5 OVERALL - 3.5
My wife and I walked in at 8:00pm and the server asked if we had an appointment- I said no. The server then said the next available time is at 9:30pm I said ok, no problem Then another couple walked in and said the exact same thing, they had no reservation. The server sat them immediately I don t understand
Wow, the sushi and sashimi here is very tasty, they are fresh and very Japan like. Even their wasabi is grounded from root, not powder. Lots of sake selection, highly recommended. Good decor, not cheap but reasonable. This has to be the best sushi restaurant run by the Chinese.
I enjoyed the food, the friendly staff, and the overall vibe. The quality is excellent, making it a great place to enjoy with friends and family. Be sure to book in advance, especially on weekends.
Fresh sashimi, beef and good rice wine selections!
Delicious Japanese food with a large selection of sake
Overall good quality is very decent. I love their Oyster Bomb sushi roll. You just have to be cautious when seeing crab meat on the menu, because they use get imitation crab. I find that a bit ridiculous. Its like giving you Spam but calling it pork.
I quite don t understand why Chinese people discriminate against other Chinese people. Poor attitude if you don t speak Cantonese. I will never go to there again.
Great sushi quality directly flown from Japan. Large selection of sake. Knowledgeable staff recommend various sake selections and very attentive servers made a very memorable evening. Cant wait to go back to Markham and visit Aka-Oni again.
great place for sashimi and sushi! However they have 1.5hr dinning time limit.
Little expensive. Now they have added a fence for each table, hard to get server to assist and might not be enough server..?! Other than that, foods are great. Specially for rolls . Parking: Go early !
Only went there for lunch which their lunch sets are recently priced, good quality and fresh. They do have a limited time for eating so if you are going there with friends and hoping chat for a little bit, this is not where you want.
We liked the ramen and sushi . Service was nice .
The service is very online. The tempura in this branch is much better than the one in Scarb, and the sashimi is fresher, but the black cod portion seems not as big as Scarbs. Overall, although you often have to wait for a table, it is worth it.
Refused service me for whole night.
Really enjoyed the experience here! Ramen was great, simple but delicious. The ice cream was very good as well.
A perfect place to experience Japanese cuisine. The food is delicious, the service is fast and very friendly. Ive learned a lot about sake and had a perfect bottle recommended by a very knowledgeable sommelier and server.
Absolutely miserable feeling inside. Its so....cramped...and the lights are flashing. Food was very typical... and simple. Regular ingredients were used but charging very upscale prices, they dare to even use cali rolls to charge up there. Definitely way too expensive. Plenty of better places in my opinion. Service was so so. Theyre busy but theyre not under staffed. Parking: Its a pain.
Love this place, great food and friendly staff.
Set meal for two: Includes salad, 4 pieces of foie gras and eel purple rice sushi (super delicious), two bowls of black truffle crab paste chawanmushi (lots of black truffle, a little more oil), lobster, salmon belly, salmon sashimi, including Lobster meat udon soup (so delicious), skewered wagyu, okra, and mushrooms. I added a bowl of pork cartilage ramen. The pork cartilage is so juicy and delicious! Because it was my birthday, I got tofu cake, grapefruit and sesame ice cream. It was better to eat the tofu cake first and then the ice cream because the ice cream tastes sweeter! Not thirsty after eating all the food!
too pricy. not worth it
We had a bit of everything and a lot of sashimi. Food was fresh, beautifully presented and service was friendly and advice was spot on
Service, Atmosphere is excellent but the only thing a big drawback is No vegetarian option for a main course meal quite bad.
Kinda wish I just got five blind boxes it was so good Everything else was really good too though you can probably get whatever and its good Food : 5/5
Overall very tasty experience! Very fresh seafood! Make sure to check out the Daily Specials: - The 2 geoduck skewers for $8 was excellent value and delicious. - good blend of fresh ingredients (changes each time) in the blind box (see picture). If you like thick creamy garlic broth, Hakata Black Garlic Ramen would be for you. We really enjoyed it *Thumbs up * The chicken cartilage actually has full chewy cartilage, unlike many other places Ive been to. They are very thoughtful on how they make their food, even to the finest detail - the wasabi is very unique and has a special texture to it that is unlike anywhere else weve been to. We forgot to ask them whats in the wasabi. Please comment below if you find out! :9
Loved the chacha sushi, feels almost like a lobster cheeseburger
Very delicious
I received wonderful service from Terry and Zoe. I took my family here and didnt want to break the bank so we opted for ramen. Terry picked up on this when my mom selected a pricey item on the menu and he kindly recommended something in a lower price range. You saved my wallet! Zoe was very kind and accommodating to my family who arent accustomed to foreign cuisine. I took the black garlic ramen and it was delicious. I savored every last spoonful of the broth. My mom ended up finding the food a bit too exotic (omg mom, its ramen ) so Terry kindly packed away her noodles. He even separated the broth from the noodles so that they would keep better! The meal came with a complementary ice cream which was also awesome. Overall I would strongly recommend and again a big thank you to Zoe and Terry.
Lovely food, the ramen was delicious! The sashimi looked fresh, and the bowl had a fun spin to it :) I was surprised we all got complementary black sesame or yuzu ice cream at the end! Even if it was busy, the restaurant was designed very cozily, where each party had a room of its own, blocked off by fabric or some form of faux wall.
Sushi and sashimi were on par! The service was excellent! Would definitely comeback next time when visiting markham!
Had dinner here twice, both times very good. Fresh sashimi. Love the complementary salad and ice cream. The Yuzu ice cream is very yummy.
A 10-year-old fan came here to report. I eat it so often that I haven t written a review yet. Aki Oni s foie gras and eel sushi really fills your mouth with a sense of happiness! ! The fish rice is also a must-have! ! Lobster sashimi is a must-order every time ~ The decoration is beautiful and paired with a glass of wine, don t be too satisfied ~
Great, unique/creative Japanese foods not offered by other restaurant. Parking: Hard to find parking lots during lunch/dinner time, especial on the weekends Food : 5/5 |
We have been coming to this place for years, food is excellent and service is amazing. Will continue to come!
We had dinner here before and it was great. First time lunch here and learned something new about sashimi. My daughter ordered a salmon sashimi don and there were bones in the salmon. We told the waitress and she responded that bones in sashimi is not the restaurants problem. I have been having sashimi in different parts of the world and this is definitely something very new!
Fun but loud interior but enjoyed fresh sashimi options!
Good service
food good serve good
Decent sushi, okay environment, a little crowded tho. Service is quite rude. We kindly asked if a sushi combo would be enough for 2 people and the servant rolled their eyes at us and read the menu out instead of answering our question. Similar experience at other location with their service.
Love the food there , is not really the most authentic jap food I had , but i love the Taste and texture of it ! 10/10 recommendations! P.s place is a bit crowed , make sure to reserved a table !
Excellent!!! Get the black diamond roll, thats the best! The rest is super good too.
Authentic Japanese food.
Had a very good 1st experience. Great diversity in the tappas/apps. Tried the intestine skewers and they are to die for! A gentleman from the staff named Andrew took the time to explain their garnish pairings and how to use them, it was informative and impressive. The visit was very memorable. Thanks for making my night!
Excellent lunch specials. The staff was very careful and accommodating with food allergies. It is very hard to get a table at lunch time, so be sure to make a reservation!
Do you have reservation? No? Wait outside the door. No thank you. I will not come back.
Excellent staff and services. Thank you for making our experience extremely pleasant.
2024 March 3.5 A small restaurant with about 8 to 10 tables that seat 4 each. Chef Nigiri(8pcs) $29.99 A selection of chef selected fish. Good presentation and flavors. Would recommend. Oyster Bomb $22.99 Fried oyster sushi. Good for the kids. Black Cod $17.99 Miso cod fish. The fish was thin. While pretty decent, not worth the price. Beef Sukiyaki $21.99 Pretty decent, but not really authentic. Saba 7 Spices $13.49 Grilled fish with seasoning. Ok. Veggie Tempura $9.99 A good selection and variety of veggies. Gets soggy quick. Batter could be better. Food isnt bad, though its not considered cheap. Youll find this place busy and a reservation is recommended. Free parking available in the plaza.
There s a wide variety of food on the menu. We prefer the seasonal options over the regular menu. Wont recommend the (cooked) salmon don as the whole dish is quite dry and lack seasoning. The signature ramen is slightly below average. Despite the little disappointment as the expectation was higher for such mid-high price range, we still had a great time and will come back to try other dishes.
The standard house Tonkatsu ramen was good. Not overly salty, and two very large slices of pork belly. Everything else was underwhelming. The sushi and chirashi bowl are way overpriced and about AYCE quality.
Great food! Fresh fish! Service can improve with more mannerisms considering the price and origin of culture.
Frequently overlooked, seldomly disappoints! It never ceases to amaze me as to why this super busy and popular Richmond Hill Japanese eatery has constantly been overlooked when the topic of note-worthy Izakaya was being discussed. Featuring one of the largest selections of Sake in town, this buzzing and intimate eating house also features a vast and diverse menu. Offering a whole slew of favorite Japanese casual fare, these range from Yakitoris and Skewers to Sushi/Sashimi to fried and baked dishes to Ramen and Dons. As well, daily specials using special exotic ingredients, air freight from Japan, such as Hokkaido Uni, Abalone and Kinki fish from Japanese water, A5 Japanese Wagyu .etc were separately listed. Despite its huge offering of different food repertoires and dishes, the skilled kitchen managed to maintain and deliver across the entire spectrum, an extremely high standard of cooking. Tonight s standout dishes extend from start to finish. They include the sashimi platter, featuring some impeccably fresh and generously portioned seafood selection. The bowl of rich and creamy butter infused Tonkotsu Ramen with, again, generous slices of Char-Siu and a top-notched flavorful broth. The nicely charred and tender Angus steak and Ox-tongue skewers were exemplary...may be the best I have tasted in town, including Zakkushi! The medium rare interior was moist and juicy, the caramelized exterior, well glazed with thick and delectable Teriyaki sauce. The multi-dimensional Oyster Bomb Maki features layers of flavor and texture, resulting in a most enjoyable mouth-feel. Service was friendly and attentive. Overall, a most delightful dining experience. BTW, on busy weekends, all tables are assigned only an hour and a half time limit!
We came here about an hour and a half before they were closing on a late Sunday night. Much to my surprise, the restaurant was still packed (they have booths that are divided from each other). Despite this, the waiters and waitresses were all still so friendly, efficient, and patient. I would go back here just for the good service, despite them forgetting a yakitori that we ordered. We got some sushi nigiri, ramen, and their lobster set menu for two people. The lobster set menu was especially good value given the quantity and quality of food. We only wish that that broth for the lobster udon would have been actually cooked with the lobster in it - it instead tasted like chicken broth with the lobster added after the fact. It still was good for a regular udon and came in a very generous portion.
Came here during lunch on a Sunday, so that maybe why the food was not fresh. It was quite noticeable and we left disappointed, we were shocked they knowingly served us that quality of food.
a bit pricy for what it is, however the black sesame ice cream is amazing. strong black sesame taste with milk smoothness.
AKA-Oh-No! We used to be regulars for years, indulge ourselves in a truly Japanese atmosphere of relaxed dining. Yet, most recently, we found deterioration in every aspect: * 90min time slots * Useless tablet PCs * Rushed through the courses by blunt Chinese waitresses * Crudely cut sashimi * Dry tako * Terrible Mauro, let alone the Foie Gras. Has lost the Japanese elegance. Will not come again. Avoid!
We tried to get a table at the door, but the guy who greeted us was very arrogant, so we decided to leave. Period!
Great place for a person who doesn t like raw sushi. However all the cooked sushi has the same bite/taste. Complimentary salad and ice cream.
Everything was good, just a bit pricey.
Delicious ramen. I make sure to stop in everytime Im in the area
Ordered sushi and sashimi sets and they didn t taste fresh. I was recommended by a friend who used to go there a lot and after telling him my experience he told me he hasn t been there for a long time already because he found the food to be of poor taste/quality.. Service was okay but some staff barely speak English. Atmosphere was okay but TV was too loud.
Best sushi ever.
A bit pricey but worth trying! They offer a large variety of food and alcohol options. The food quality is certainly higher than any regular sushi restaurants. Highly recommend the black diamond maki (Eel & foie gras). The only downside is lack of vegetarian options available.
Horrible service, good food. Will not be returning. Dont even think about going here without a reservation even during a weekday with so many parking spaces available at Times Square. They will seat you but then tell you that you have 45 mins to order and eat and leave. Then they will hover over your table several times to pressure you to order faster. Ive never been so rushed to order at a restaurant before. I couldnt even get to the second page of the menu before they forced us to order. We couldnt even keep a menu at our table to order for later because they wouldnt let us. The servers are not friendly at all. The menu should be updated because it says ebi tempura but then its only 2 shrimp and everything else is veggies. So misleading. There are other differences in the tablet menu and physical menu. The food presentation is great and the taste is pretty good. Portions are big. I really enjoyed the grilled squid. If the service was any better I would return. But for the same price or less I can get much better service somewhere else, even in the same plaza. My friends and I will not be returning.
Definitely one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in the Richmond Hill-Markham area! Most options are on the more pricier side but they have affordable options as well!
Delicate food along with courteous staff. Environments is cozy and warm.
Amazing service and amazing food ~~ highly recommend
Best sushi ever, nice investment, nice people try itfor sure
Beat ramen Ive ever had, amazing and friendly service. Open later than most ramen places too :D
Had a lovely lunchtime here. They played Japanese pop music in the store, which I like, and it was at a moderate volume that didnt interrupt my conversation with my friend. I ordered Aka-miso Ramen. The BBQ pork on the noodle was really big chunk, and the soup base was rich but not greasy. The black diamond was a real masterpiece. I love this combination of foie gras and eel. The slight sweetness and saltiness made for a great layering of flavors. But its a bit fatty, so I wouldnt recommend it if you like lighte food. Plus, They offer free hot tea at the beginning, and free ice cream at the end. I will definitely go back and try other foods.
Always great food. Make sure you get reservations. Walk in s are almost impossible. Food
Absolutely amazing ramen, and even nicer staff. They provided free complimentary Ice Cream, and I chose the Yuzu flavor which was absolutely fantastic. This is truly a gem and I will be back again!
Excellent service, super food quality, very fresh, good portion and most important of all everything we ordered taste great.
Bookmarked this Japanese restaurant for long time and heard lots of great reviews!! They really satisfied my cravings for Japanese foods like the sushi and sashimi, I highly recommend their famous sushi named Black Diamond. Its combined the foie gras and eel, the texture of the sushi is great, and full of fillings! The staffs are so helpful and they will explain the menu to us patiently! The restaurant also has Japanese signature decorations and the seats are spacious.
Do NOT order their ramen. The broth is bland and has no flavor. You re better off buying and eating instant noodles than spending $20 on flavorless ramen.
The service is great. The atmosphere is absolutely stunning and clean, along with very nice setups when the food arrives. The food is exceptionally good. It is professionally prepared and doesnt use any bad/rotten ingredients and has the highest class sushi of this average price range. Very good. Highly recommend
The food is good and lots of choices. Just the Tonkotsu ramen soup base has no taste. Me and my other two friends ordered the same ramen and 2 out of 3 has no taste (taste like water) but one has taste so we suspect that they probably forgot to add flavor/powder to the soup. Besides that everything is good. The service is good as well. The restaurant is not big. They setup lots of booth with privacy which I like the most. There s also one area allows them to setup a long table that can fit up to 12 ppl like us.
We ordered Deep Fried Gyoza, we really liked it. Then, ordered Tonkotsu Original Ramen which was okay, the broth wasnt thick and didnt like the seaweeds. The Hakata Black Garlic Ramen was tasty though and highly recommended. The sushi was good and fresh, the rice layer was thin and rolled perfectly. At the end we were served with complementary one scoop Yuzu ice cream and it was delicious. Its almost a high end Japanese restaurant, the prices are above average but the quality is good. The ingredients are fresh and dont smell bad at all with a nice decoration. The service is great and friendly staff. Serve time was acceptable and pretty fast. You may need a reservation however we were fine to get a table, it was at the end of the lunch menu and we only had 15 mins to place the order before the kitchen was closed. Lunch prices are more reasonable compared to the dinner menu, however I am still okay to pay a bit higher to get fresh quality food. This is located in a busy plaza which has so many parking spots but it could be a bit difficult to find an empty spot during rush hour, also underground parking is available if youre looking for more spots. They have a wide sake selection and you wont be disappointed. Parking: If you cant find an empty spot in the parking lot, you can go to underground parking.
Loved this spot!!! We came for a special lunch and were impressed with the quality of the food! The cocktails (ume and yuzu) were refreshing, the salmon sashimi was buttery and thick, the ramen and unagi donburi were both delicious. And they gave us black sesame and yuzu ice cream and both were really yummy.
Came here to try their $88 omakase which is a pretty good deal considering the price. Their omakase is 50/50 between raw and cooked food, so it isnt a true omakase in that sense. But its a great way to try all the different things they have on offer. The fish is surprisingly fresh and they had some interesting combos for the sushi. My favourite was the asparagus and skate dish. The ox tongue skewers and soba noodles were pretty good too, and I believe there was a fish soup I forgot to take a picture of (which was flavourful but couldve been a bit hotter when serving). Only standout for dessert was the black sesame ice cream, which had a strong black sesame taste and a creamy texture. I would come back here to order from their main menu (which is quite extensive). The decor is unique too, with the tables partitioned off with hanging clothes.
The spicy seared mix roll is a flavour that can t be replicated. I come back solely for this roll it s amazing. All raw fish here is extremely fresh and high quality, it is worth the price. A reservation is a must so plan ahead since they always have a waitlist for lunch and dinner and parking lot is very packed.
This is the third time I went to this restaurant, and it was also the last time. The first time I went there a year ago, I thought the food was good, so I tried it a second time, but I already felt numb the second time. I thought it was due to supply issues, so I took the opportunity to eat raw fish this time. Foods other than food are obviously harmful. I ordered a mackerel set meal, but the white rice was not pearl rice. All in all, the rice was soggy and hard to eat. The fish was fried in oil, and butter paper was not used as a base to absorb the oil. As a result, the fish skin was not fragrant or crispy at all, and it was completely insincere. Speaking of yusheng, O-toro only has Mexican products, so I tried them all, and they were quite fishy. Fortunately, there was Hokkaido sea urchin, but it was placed on top of some soggy rice, which overshadowed the sea urchin. Finally, in order to fill my stomach, I ordered some skewers. The beef ribs and steak were cooked to the point of being stoned. I had no idea what they meant. I think this time should no longer be called a red ghost, but should be renamed a ghost.
This place has some decent food, and a vast drink menu Makes sense since an izakaya is a type of Japanese bar in which a variety of small, typically inexpensive, dishes and snacks are served to accompany the alcoholic drinks. -[FRIES] $6.99 Comes dressed with drizzles of mayo, and topped with bonito flakes Decently sized portion to fill your stomach but could use a bit more mayo in my personal opinion -[SEARED SPICY MIX MAKI // 8 pcs] $15.99 For the price paid, the roll is a tad small but it is pretty flavorful! -[ONSEN ABURI CHIRASHI] $26.99 All the fish is served aburi style, and then topped with a soft poached egg Portion once again is on the smaller side for the price paid but it is quite a filling dish to share between two people -[YUZU CHU-HI] $9.50 Basically just tastes like a yuzu soda Can be a good or bad thing depending on the kind of drinker you are -[GINGER ICE CREAM] FREE I love ginger so I couldnt resist when they mentioned that was one of the flavors of free ice cream I could choose from! Make a reservation by phone ahead of time to avoid being turned away at the door
Everything is perfect. Offer free ice cream as dessert which that is the sweetest part love it
Pictures do not do this place justice. They have exceptional service. High quality dishes that are beautifully presented. Great service with individuals who specialize in which sakes that pair best with your meal. Make sure to make reservations! Will definitely be returning! Parking: Typically not hard to find as it s located in a plaza with plenty of parking.
Cute restaurant and yummy food! Really enjoyed the maki and takoyaki. The fish broth soup that was highly recommended was not worth the $20 I paid. But otherwise really great. Also lots of options. HUGE MENU.
I much prefer this location more than the Scarborough location because they have more food options here and I went here on a date with someone I met on Bumble (though I was led on at the end of the day and I was in complete embarrassment to find out we didnt match due to how he didnt like me being super repetitive/annoying(?) throughout the entire 3 hours he said) and I loved how fast we were served as well as serviced the moment we were seated. They gave us enough time to decide and then circle back to us when we were ready to order. I found the food was more fresh at this location and slightly more-portioned than Scarborough maybe because this location is a lot more frequented than Scarborough. Therefore, they must keep up with the sanitation and freshness of the restaurant and ingredients altogether. Though both locations restaurants are loud because of the tv playing and music blaring in the background, I still got to dine there quite comfortably and we didnt get rushed out. Ice-cream was on the house too after we paid! Its a bit far from where I lived but it was very easy to spot the restaurant once we got there so thats good.
First time here and what a treat! Super attentive and knowledgeable staff. The sashimi platter was AMAZING. I had hesitations about the conch but it was surprisingly delicious. The beef bowl (pretty sure that s not the right name lol) was flavourful and brothy. If you ve had mushroom chicken in a hot bowl before it kinda reminded me of that (the mushrooms at least!) And of course, what a drink selection! Definitely need to make a reservation, and they hold you to the time limit (because the next party is usually waiting). A bit on the pricey side but definitely worth it if you re a fan of seafood and hearty cooking!
service is below average, waiters are terrible. Manager is good. Food is not worth the price. Expensive and rude.
One of the best sushi weve tasted in the Richmond Hill/Markham area. Kid friendly izakaya spot, as it isnt dark, but still great ambiance that makes you feel like youve been transported to Japan.
I had diarrhea when I got home after eating. The waiter acted like he owed them money and took away the food before finishing. I don t understand how this kind of service has the nerve to charge a 15% tip. Comments and Xiaohongshu boast about the service. How dare they boast about the taste? Have you ever eaten Japanese food? The summary is that the small ingredients in hunger marketing stores are not very fresh and the service is not as good as roadside stalls.
Raman noodle texture was very good (I chose thick noodle) but the soup was kind of bland. Bento box was absolutely amazing! And the seared sushi roll was flavorful and tasty! Overall, this restaurant is very nice and I would like to come back to try other menus
Its so delicious, I cant resist it for those who like it.
Absolutely exceptional sushi place! The ambiance is delightful, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the sushi? Mind-blowingly fresh and delicious. Each bite was a burst of flavors. I can confidently say this is the best sushi Ive ever had. Will definitely be returning! But $$$$
Food quality is what you paid for, but nothing that completely blows me away. I first tried the Scarborough location and the fish seemed fresher. If just going with a friend or two, its a decent place, but not money-friendly.
Excellent food and service.
Hello from San Francisco! Really digging these plazas within walking distance from each other. There are a lot of options here for food and milk tea. Anyway, giving Aka-Oni a try and I d say it was a solid 4/5 experience. We were told getting items with uni will cost us $20-40 more. I m not from Canada, but I m assuming this is some supply chain issue? I didn t have trouble with this in Vancouver though but could be a different time of the year. The grilled fugu, or blowfish, gave us these grilled squid flavors. Fugu is supposed to be poisonous right? I m not quite sure if this was legit fugu. The ramen noodles were really soft. The texture was close to instant noodles. I think it was my fault for ordering ramen, but I believe this is a good feedback. Hope y all incorporate it! Overall, the food wasn t terrible. There were small stuff we could nitpick about. The restaurant was lively and bustling so this place is definitely popular. I also appreciate the free yuzu ice cream at the end. Helps with the heatwave y all are going through. I will definitely come back after that uni situation is resolved. Parking: Its within a plaza; however, parking can still be an issue since this area is popular.
Unfriendly service right at the door. Told the server our family was waiting inside and he insisted on holding us at the door until we could find a name and number of people. Waitress was impatient when receiving our order and none of the wait staff smiled even once during our visit. You could spend hundreds of dollars here and theyll still treat you like garbage and seem like theyre mad youre here. Restaurant is very cramped and not good for elderly patrons.
Service - didn t really interact much with server, which is fine. They were still timely and polite. Food - was great portions and everything tasted good. Atmosphere - felt a bit crowded inside but atmosphere is aight nothing great and nothing bad.
We had a great first experience here. We came for late lunch on a weekend, there was a short wait for a table. We didn t have a reservation, but they put us in the list and called when the table was ready. Everything was delicious, particularly liked the squid. First time having lobster tempura, was good. We will come back to try some more items, we couldn t try much with just two of us.
Place is kinda small so you prob need to reserve, but I tried the third ramen from the menu and the broth and the meat was very delicious and flavorful
The sashimi was fresh. The beer was cold. Lots of food selection for those that dont like sushi or sashimi. Aside from the sashimi, I also had a ramen which I should have asked them to bring it when I had finished the sashimi. I didnt want the ramen to overpower the sashimi but the ramen sat and was cold by the time I got to it. It was a bit weird that the TVs around the restaurant were showing sumo matches.
Everything was exceptional!!! I will definitely come back!
We love the food here!
Couldn t say enough good things about this place! Service is fantastic. Accommodated my 6-month old. Food is delicious and melt in the mouth.
Ramen was delicious but disappointed by the service. Greeter was extremely rude and grabbed my hand as I tried to walk in even though my group had a reservation and was already seated. Do better.
The food was great, but holy cow, the greeter at the door was absolutely horrible. I had a reservation and was told to wait outside which was totally fine but was done so by her practically pushing me out the door (not exaggerating) - so rude! I would like to give more stars as I liked the food, but the greeter really left a bitter taste. Please get a better greeter. My friend in the same party came in a couple minutes later and was also pushed/grabbed by the same greeter to go outside. Horrible.
Had a nice time here with my friend. We ate two bowls of ramen, chicken thigh skewers and the Black Diamond maki with foie gras, caviar and unagi. I liked the skewers, but for me the Black Diamond was far too rich. Ramen wasnt bad - a little too much noodles, but the pork belly was very good. Drinks were well made. The servers were surprisingly friendly and they even checked up on us throughout the meal. Good service!
Absolutely THE WORST service attitude on this planet, particularly that Cantonese server, being extremely arrogant and unfriendly. We walked in cuz there were like 3 empty tables, but that server ejected us to the front door and told us no tables available within 2 hours. FK OFF Food : 1/5
Amazing place to eat. A bit pricey but worth every penny. We had the unagi don and Hokkaido crab ramen. The ramen broth was unforgettable, with a brilliant depth of flavor and a wonderfully delicate lingering taste.
Love Aka Oni. The quality of the fish is incredible. Try the aburi sushi. Its fantastic.
Great Japanese cuisine with amazing aura and food quality. Service is great with very respectful staff. Definitely will go back and recommend it to any ramen lovers!!
Biggest scam ever!! The vast majority of things are absurdly, ridiculously priced. Every sushi serving was only one piece and often cost double figures. And the food in general is nothing but underwhelming. Would strongly advise against ever going. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT
A must go. Fresh seafood. Good service. Recommend you to make an appointment beforehand, since it is quite busy.
Excellent food !! Very fresh food ! I loved it !! Food
Reallly great place! Highly recommend. The staff was really nice and attentive and the decor was really unique. They had table dividers like they do in Japan. The food was spectacular, we have the udon, a steak rice bowl and sushi and everything item was impressive. Price is on the higher end but Will definitely go back.
Very nice ramen and fresh sushi and maki
All fried/grilled items are using the same sauce. I ordered squid shrimp scallop beef etc. total $160.00 approximately. All taste the same. Big disappointment.
Very good place, nice people, food tasted good and fresh! Love it and definitely visit again
Consistently really good ramen. Havent been disappointed.
The environment and service are nice, but the food is ok to be honest. They use a lot of fancy ingredients such as urchin, wagyu, goose liver, cavier to make their sushi, rolls, and onigiri is creative and it is rare in Toronto. This might sound fancy to ordinary customers but they taste just like the ingredients themselves without meaningful treatments to make them taste the best. The oysters sushi roll was a little fishy and wagyu was frozen. Unadon tastes really good, but as good as a lot if other places, so it doesnt worth the price. The dishes plating are phenomenal, very fancy and instagramable.
I had Aka oni Richmond Hill the year it opened and I never came back again for a reason.I gave it a try with my family last week just to see if things got better and was left disappointed. We ordered a lot of food with variety but everything was a tad bit on the salty side. The ramen was horrible. We had a lot of hot foods and I was starting to sweat in the restaurant coming from a person that is cold all the time. There was no air circulation in the small space. I gave it a try again after a few years and I am never coming back. Expensive for this quality
