What delicious rolls, just an orchestra of taste impressions and amazing service

I got a dynamite roll. The seaweed was not chewable and the shrimp had a very bad smell. We ate a few pieces and it was disgusting, not recommending at all. I called them to ask for a refund and he said no because we already ate some. I told him when I paid I didn t know how the food was going to taste, but I trusted the restaurant. It turned out to be awful. I deserved my money back. Overall, do not go there. So many better sushi places exist and are worth your money. Hope this is helpful.

Tomo Sushi has been a consistent and reliable Japanese restaurant in the Richmond Hill area for many years. The sushi/sashimi is always fresh, and they have some of the best varieties of combos on their menu. Overall, always a satisfying and fulfilling choice.

Was visiting from Hong Kong and my relatives took me here. Exceptional quality sushi. Fish tasted fresh, sushi was sculpted very neatly. It had the perfect ratio of rice and fish. The salmon was sliced generously. What I liked also was that the rolls weren t drowned in sauce like most other places. It had just the right amount. We came in with mom to celebrate her birthday. The food was amazing but the main reason of my five stars is our server Kevin. He speaks Russian he is very nice and polite. Helped us and made this experience unforgettable.

I had a really bad experience with the service in Tomo sushi. This one time after I finished my food, I accidentally tipped 5% instead of 15% because I had and extremely long day and accidentally put in the wrong amount for tipping. After I paid, the next thing I know was this female server came over to my table where I had 3 other guests with me, and infront of everyone she asked me in a very impolite manner what s wrong with the service and why didn t I tip the normal 13% . I didn t get her name, however she was extremely rude and embarrassed me infornt of my guests. I apologised immediately and paid for the rest of the tip. I d just like the say that under no circumstances that female server had the right to be this rude. She could ve confirmed with me once again, but her attitude was definitely horrible and I will not recommend this restaurant to any of my friends.

Overall a nice spot to eat some sushi and other Japanese food. They have lunches and dinners which is nice, but I have a little suggestion guys.. please make a separate menu for lunch, because it s been a few times now when we decide on food and the waiter says it s not available, lunch time is over. I walked in wanting to order food for a party, i was welcomed by the friendly staff, the manager and head chef advised me and gave me some suggestions on what to order. I took their advice, and ordered the sushi / roll tray and sasimi tray, they also asked me if anyone in my group had any allergies. I was also offered some tea while waiting for the food to be prepared. Once the sushi and sashimi trays were finished the head chef explained to me the different pieces of fish etc. When my group saw the sushi tray they were surprised at how beautifully the pieces were arranged by the chef, it was like art work, and the freshness of it was just amazing. I would recommend this place for the friendly staff and the great care and pride that the chef takes to make your order, as they care about the quality of the food and the staff make sure you leave happy.

TOMO, My recent visit to TOMO on a Wednesday night marked my first time returning there since the pandemic. The transformation was stark; where once the restaurant buzzed with energy and the sight of sushi boats at every table, I was now met with a quiet and nearly empty space. This new quiet and empty atmosphere proved to be an entirely different dining experience. We ordered three different sushi rolls: Spider, Richmond Hill, and California. Unfortunately, the overall quality of the sushi seemed to have diminished. The rice appeared less fresh, and the rolls were bulked up with fillers, missing the finer details that should be normal. Notably, the California roll lacked both roe and sesame seeds, staples of its traditional garnish. The Spider rolls soft-shell crab, typically a highlight for its juicy texture, was dry and encased in what felt like stale, deep-fried batter. Conversely, the Richmond Hill roll stood out for its size, freshness, and flavor, raising questions about the inconsistent treatment of classic selections. Despite the foods shortcomings, the service remained commendable. The server was professional and personable, maintaining a cheerful demeanor throughout our meal. The staff was attentive, ensuring we had ample ginger and wasabi and keeping our drinks replenished. However, the pricing did not seem to reflect the quality on offer. At approximately $50 for three rolls, the value proposition has undoubtedly shifted, possibly explaining the restaurants current lack of customers. If this is the reason the place isn t busy anymore, I can understand the frustration of past regulars. Perhaps a change of chef would liven the place up again. This place is consistently fantastic! Started coming when I worked in the area and now whenever Im in the area and have the opportunity I pop in for the yummy crunchy noodle soup!! The sushi is excellent quality, with fantastic presentation. An excellent overall experience that you just cant get at AYCE restaurants.

Our recent experience at Tomo Sushi was disappointing and has left us with reservations about returning. Despite a satisfactory yet brief meal, we were unexpectedly confronted by a staff member, not our designated waiter, who publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the tip we left. This incident was not only disrespectful but also entirely unwarranted, given the short duration of our visit. The idea that patrons may face public embarrassment for leaving what is deemed an unsatisfactory tip is disconcerting and runs counter to the professionalism expected in a dining establishment. Such a policy significantly diminishes the likelihood of our return. As customers, we value respectful and courteous service, and unfortunately, this incident has prompted us to reassess whether Tomo Sushi meets our expectations. We sincerely hope that management addresses this matter promptly to prevent similar occurrences and uphold the integrity of the dining experience at your establishment. Regrettably, at this time, we cannot foresee ourselves returning.

I am (no more) a regular customer and have been ordering from this place for years. I usually order through Ubereats but for a while now they fail to send the extra ginger I ask for or miss sending soy sauce, for example. Their service has gone bad drastically and I will NOT be ordering from this place anymore

I have been going to Tomo for well over 15 years and it was the best and freshest sushi north of downtown. Since the pandemic we have been ordering it through UberEats, at least once a week, and until very recently it was still excellent. BUT THEN SOMETHING HAS CHANGED. So I am writing tjis review in the hopes of getting the managements attention so it can fix things before it is too late. About two weeks ago, the spicy tuna rolls that arrived actually smelled. I cautiously tried one, and had to spit it out. After so many years, we could dismiss one bad order and figured maybe it was because we ordered it late in the evening. So we ordered it again last weekend, but this time in the afternoon. The same problem, the spicy salmon actually smelled spoiled. This time, I did not even dare to try it and just theew it out. I have told this to a few friends, who all say they have had the same experience. I dont know if its new owners or if something is wrong with the delivery orders, but I dont want to give them a third try until they identify and fix the problem.

Fresh and delicious sushi

It was our first time ordering sushi from this restaurant. We chose to pick up the order. As always, it was packed in the bag. When we opened the food at home we found out that one of the rolls was missing. We didn t know how to prove it to the restaurant and how to go about it but I want just to warn people: Check your pick up if you choose to buy from them.

I ve been going to this tomo since I was a kid with my family and I still go to this day! The chicken teriyaki is amazing, always so fresh! The noodle crunch soup is like no other soup! The service is the best, so fast and every single server goes above and beyond with their care! The staff are always friendly and greet customers with a warm smile! Good food, we were here few times. This time around it was extremely cold, we were not able to take off coats which made Friday dinner not enjoyable. Tea and sake got cold in 3 mins. We asked to turn on the heat but it was ignored. We run out of soy sauce but they didnt notice. May be they have too many waitresses running around but not really paying attention to customers and their comfort. Not pleased by the experience.

Ordered sashimi, sushi, and roll small plattet to take out near their closing time. 10% discount on cash payment is a really good deal. Sashimi and sushi were very good, but we chewed on dried rice in the spicy salmon roll. Order at the closing time should be considerate. Definitely will go back though.

Very nice place to visit for Japanese cuisine. The service was great, attentive and to the point. Came by and asked if everything was okay in a timely manner and did not overdo it. We got there at 9:30pm and before sitting down, the server says last call for food is at 10pm. So we think like any other normal place we can get the order in before that and enjoy the food. The order comes in at 9:45pm. We asked for extra ginger and the wait staff just says we have had a lot already and they cannot give us any more ginger. Then the server comes back at 10pm and asks us to leave ASAP as we can t stay because the restaurant is closed. We paid the $370 bill and left. Most horrible service ever! Don t waste your time here. Plenty more restaurants where they have manners and respect for their customers.

This place could be considered a hidden gem. Quantities are good, quality is actually really quite good! And the staff has been nothing but super friendly. Went for a take out today, and it seemed very busy since it was long weekend. A lady assisted me with the takeout order and was very patient and pleasant when I asked million questions as it was my first time. She was very kind and hospitable. In terms of food, I ordered love salmon, and it was delicious.

Ask for the dynamite hand roll. It is not on the menu but was the most delicious item we had. The servicr was great. I will look forward to going again.

This sushi place is the worst in the town. We went there for dinner and the ginger smelled like garbage. We told about the ginger to the server and he said they have brought from the container and he was insisting that is fresh ginger. The portion of the food was very small for the money that we paid. Their sushi rolls had covered with thick layer of rice. The server and manager were very rude.

Do yourself a favor and don t go here. Food court food is better than this restaurant. The amount of salt they put into the food is illegal . Overall overpriced and salty.

Ordered takeout and was inedible. The tempura was cold soggy and stuck together and the sushi was all mushy. When I called, the response was. so what do you want me to do about it I go there all the time would not recommend take out!

We were there a while ago, and the greeter told us an absurd dine-in time of 1 hour only. Her attitude was arrogant, take it or leave it kind of attitude. We were regulars at this restaurant, but it was our worst dining experience so far.

My first and last experience with/ this location is on Oct 06 (Friday). First, the light board outside stated the closing hour is 11pm. We arrived restaurant at 8:45pm. Get to a table very fast. We took about 15 min to go through the menu before placing the order. Myself and my gf ordered a small luxury sushi sushimi and roll tray, shrimp N veggie tempura, and 2 salad. All dished arrived items arrived in about 20 minutes. Everything went well and food was good. By 9:30pm, we were told it was last call. By 9:45pm, we were asked to settle the bill as the cashier was closing. At 9:55pm, we were told that they are closing in 5 minutes. The second table (which came before us) just paid the bill and left at that time. 2 minutes later (which I had a piece of sashimi in my mouth chewing and still 5 pieces of sashimi on place) another waiter came and asked it we wanted any take out box. I pointed to my mouth and trued to tell him I am still eating. My gf kept telling him we are alMost done, we are almost done. We managed to leave the door at 10pm sharp we knew that was our first and last time for this restaurant. I dont mind to pay $165 for dinner for 2 but I expect to have an enjoyable dinner. Not got kick out like that. Remember, the light box outside mentioned they close at 11pm.

How come the miso soup just a little warm? I expect it should be hot. Every time come here has the same issue with this. For the Sashimi set, sometimes good, sometimes not fresh, sometimes thick, sometimes thin, the portion sometimes enough, sometimes too little, the chef won t have a steady standard for the sashimi cut

Their lunch specials is good except for Donburi which is scant on beef and very overpriced. Their service is good when you order and when you pay. In between, no one comes to fill up your tea unless you call them. Olivia and some other waitress are very attentive but not all.

Great atmosphere and the sushi is fresh. My photo shows the cold sake but they also serve their warm sake by the pot over a small flame to keep it warm. Best sushi in Richmond Hill. Vegetarian options: Many vegetarian options throughout the menu. Parking: Parking is in a strip mall so no issues or parallel parking along the road needed. Kid-friendliness: Quiet family place with lots of kids options. Wheelchair accessibility: Entryway and washrooms are all on one level and the restaurant is laid out with very wide aisles so mobility devices will not have issues .

My go-to place when I crave for sushi/ sashimi. We had a big family dinner in a private room so that we can enjoy our time together. We had a lot of appetizer, miso yaki black cod, and small deluxe party smth. Beef enoki mushroom is must-try appetizer. The black cod was very juicy and good for person who cannot eat sashimi. I highly recommend deluxe party if you want both sushi and sashimi as it is fresh and instagrammable. Even though the restaurant was crowded, our server, Irene was able to manage our big order and very considerate of our preferences. Kinda sad that it is far from my house

Delicious rolls, crisp tempura and fresh sashimi. With a comfortable space, friendly staff and good parking space, this restaurant is guaranteed to give you an amazing dinner. Definitely worth the visit, I ll be coming back a second time for sure.

Been going here since it first opened when I would have given it five stars. In the intervening years, new staff, expansion to another location, and maybe new ownership, we have noticed a decline in quality. Little touches like the dab of wasabi under the salmon sushi (expected), or the flavour of the sushi rice has been wanting. Now Tomo seems like the other ubiquitous sushi places that have popped up. We still do takeout and occasionally dine there.

Terrible experience. 1. Staff talks too much amongst themselves, not caring for customers 2. Waiter is polite and knowledgeable but waitresses, especially the tall owner/manager looking waitress is very fake in her tone and expression. 3. Found bone in the salmon sashimi. 4. Only good thing about this restaurant is the spacious parking lot.
