1380 Major Mackenzie Dr E, Richmond Hill, ON L4S 0A1, Canada
Calm, art-decorated Japanese restaurant preparing sushi, noodles, grilled meats & seafood.
Great authentic Japanese place if you're craving sushi. We got 2 lunch sets, a long with some hand rolls, and they were all delicious. Aside from the sushi, the tempura was fried perfectly - good colour and it was light and crispy. Service was great, although the prices were a bit higher than other Japanese restaurants. However the quality was there and we will definitely visit again for dinner.
Not a fancy decoration restaurant. A small sushi bar right behind the main door. The ingredient is fresh abd the portion is right for me. Not over loaded with rice. If you are looking for a simple and affordable omakase dinner in Richmond Hill, here is one of the choices.
A truly authentic Japanese sushi experience! Clean and warm atmosphere sitting infront of the friendly chefs while they work. Chirashi sushi came with a variety of different sashimi and the presentation was so cute! All sushi and sashimi from the course were fresh and high quality. My personal favourites were toro and foie gras! It was a pleasure to watch chef Toshi and chef Alan prepare the food. Its clear they have a great passion for their work and deliver the finest of sushi. Overall amazing experience!
Great little Japanese place I found tucked in this big plaza. Very zen vibe. Food is delicious. It’s quite a small space so space it limited. I only tried the soba tempura and it was yummy. Will definitely try the sushi next time.
Went there for dinner, ordered sushi and appetizers a la carte. Decor is nice, a bit fancy but not overly intimating. The sushi rolls were decent, the hosomaki (we had the eel/cucumber $6.50 and the $9.00 negitoro) were a good deal, the soft shell crab maki roll $12.00 was just ok. The sashimi saba (mackerel) 3-pc is standard and I just find it so expensive $13.00. The chawan mushi at $12.50 is not worth it, close to the kaarage $11.50 too small and a tiny dry, no functional lemon piece, just a slice for decor!! Maybe try the lunch deals for better value.
Came here for the omakase and overall the decor is nice, as its simple and modern. The service was so bloody slow… almost 2+ hours. Probably because there was only one server and sushi chef, but only a small restaurant with only a few tables filled. The server was nice though and apologized for the slow waits. The portions were small but quality of the fish tasted pretty fresh and was good. However, the small noodle dish was what turned me off as there was a small white bug that looked like a maggot or something floating on top of the broth - not sure, but definitely not appetizing. I would’ve given 4 stars but the slow service and the questionable bug in the food, I just couldn’t when we paid a hefty price of the omakse.
Nice Japanese restaurant in Richmond Hill, the food and service is great. Most sushi is great, same class as good restaurant in Japan or Taiwan. Even know it’s quite expensive but still worth a visit. Will be there soon.
Me and my friends had the omakase, it was so fresh and delicious. The chef was very friendly and very professional. We will definitely go back again. I feel good after eating such awesome sushi.
I just realized I didn t write a review after I have been to this place so many times I start visiting again a month ago and somehow I really started to like the sushi there the fish are always fresh with no bad fishy smell, i recommend sit at the counter as always so u get to eat the sushi immediately after the chef made it for you. Of course, I only tried the sushi course from the menu so my review is really pretty much based on that. I am not sure if other dishes are good. I pretty much only go there for sushi. It s not the best sushi in Toronto ones may argue and I am not sure what kind of wasabi it s using (prefer the grated ones), but I would say it s still one of the good restaurant and I would continue to visit.
Food was delicious, a bit slow, but good things take time. Minus one star for the subpar service. We asked if we could have one of the sakes on the menu, the male waiter quickly said sorry, we dont have that today, and walked away. No time and patience to wait to see if we wanted another sake or tried to introduce us to other sakes. I can understand that it might be a busy night, but poor labour control and inadequately trained server should not be an excuse to poor customer experience.
mid-end prices ~130, yet food was clearly very low quality and cheap. Fish texture was extremely soft, almost to the point of ice cream (indicative of badly prepared/long-preserved fish). Some fish was rotten - the salmon and tuna dishes were rotten. Insects everywhere! Do not attempt the Omakase experience - you will be met with flies crawling across the bar table, the seats, and even the food. Buyer beware!
Very happy of the service and food. Amazing experience. Will go back with family to enjoy the premium sushi
Amazing quality lunch for affordable prices, the best hidden authentic Japanese operated restaurant gem! Parking: Attached to the plaza.
Authentic Japanese Chef...used to run a Japanese restaurant on King Street in downtown TO. Great food, great service. Were always on budget, so we go at lunch. So yummy...sushi, beef teriyaki, udon :) We take out to bring home to Scarborough and occasionally eat in.
Bitter sweet giving a positive review. I want this place all to myself. Superb food, superb service, superb value.
Had the sushi set for lunch and it was fantastic. Super fresh sushi that you cannot have anywhere else.
Get the omakase
Hands down my favourite Japanese cuisine! Food quality and service is excellent and exceptional! You must give Toshi Ryoriten a visit :)
Good service and food. Reasonable price
LOVE this restaurant! Exquisite set sushi dinner with attention to detail. Highlight must be the seared foie gras sushi! Friendly service. Yes, its a little slow but well worth the wait on each course and you really should slowly savour each bite. Toshi has similar pricing and quality to downtown omakase restaurants that gives you way less food and less variety.
Food was good but portions did not match the price. Paid $10 for 4 small pieces of karaage chicken. Place is marketed as a fancy Japanese restaurant, but the dinner set was plated like a home-cooked meal. Server was nice but never checked in or even looked our way despite being the only guest.
Excellent small Japanese restaurant. Highly recommend the omakase.
the food are expensive but I do not receive the equivalent quality especially the sashimi! I can enjoy a much better quality from IKON with reasonable price. I ordered OX tongue but it was very rubbery and could not eat it. So I returned and canceled it.
Carries allergy and cannot consume Wasabi, shop has not asked for allergy, has not state that wasabi is by default added to sushi, and refuses to remake the sushi without apology.
This small Japanese restaurant never disappointed me. Have been there several times and quality still maintained. Omakase menu price is reasonable compared to others. Sevice was decent. Dining area is a bit compacted but still acceptable. Good for anniversary dinner with your other half.
For authentic Japanese cuisine in Toronto, this place is the top choice.
I love Toshi.....Great service and very reasonable for their high quality omakase! My place to go!
The sushi was good with some creative pieces. However, the service was very slow (45 min+) and food did not come out at the same time, some of us finished our meals before others even started.
Good
If you want quality sushi, you come here. The portions are not large but again, you are paying for quality.
I could taste the same taste as in Japan, and all the food was delicious. All the staff can speak Japanese and are a real Japanese restaurant. Recommended!
Amazing sushi experience!
Fish was very fresh, definitely a top tasting omakase. Seats were low so its not an immersive experience. Would definitely come again still tho.
We tried the chefs menu, it was very good. Excellent service as the waitress was by herself, and the restaurant was pretty full. I must say the best part was the desert. The tofu pudding was exceptional, Ive never tasted something so good.
This was the 1st time I tested this restaurant the food was delicious, I just had the beef teriyaki and white rice for take out. BUT the size portion for the price was ridiculous the portion couldn t even fill a child s belly. The rice was not even filled to the top of the container and the need for 19 bucks couldnt even fill a child. Food was great but the portions were absolutely terrible for the price they charge.
Ordered Toshi course. Added chicken karaage, spider roll, salmon terriyaki and foie gras sushi. All sashimi sushi and roll excellent. Highly recommended. Disappointed on cooked food. From the Toshi course, one of two app was the chicken and fish, they were a bit burnt and overcook. The spider roll soft shell crab wasnt the greatest taste as the meat of it was overcook. It feels the back kitchen had a bit of a hiccup on the food today. I believe it is just a one off and will definitely revisit again. Parking: Lots of parking space. Wouldnt be any issue with it. Kid-friendliness: Not many options for kids, especially they do not have udon or ramen on their menu.
Cute little Japanese restaurant
Food was good and fishes were fresh. However what ruined the experience was the horrible service. We went on Saturday for lunch during a non-busy time, its a small restaurant and was only 3/4 full; we waited a long time before being greeted at the entrance. This was the first downfall. The waitress took long to take our order and in addition, got our order wrong. Went asked for the bill, the bill was also charged incorrectly, I had ordered a Unagi Sushi but was charged a Unagi Sashimi - really shows the lack of experience of the waitress. We had the lunch special and a tempura soba as our mains. Both were good and well made but not sure if the price/trip was worth the Special. On the side we ordered a hamachi sushi, otoro sushi, Unagi Sushi , Saba sushi ( but got a salmon sushi instead so we added an additional Saba as originally ordered) and a spicy Salmon roll. The hamachi, otoro and unagi was very good. The Saba and salmon were okay. I did not like the spicy Salmon roll as they used Korean Gochujang/Gochugaru which made the roll salty. The place was cute and had light background music after a while (when we first walked in, it was very quiet and awkward). They provided coat racks and hangers. One washroom had no soap. I wouldnt make the trek again from Toronto
When we came in, no one greeted us and we had to stand for 5 minutes. The waiter came out from the kitchen and took very long to clean the table. I don t understand how a high-end Omakase restaurant does not properly train a waiter how to provide a basic customer service. We told him we wanted to sit by a bar and he took 10-15 minutes to clean the table. We couldn t wait and decided to leave the place. Not even worth waiting.
Had some of the lunch specials which was delicious and fresh. Portioning and variety was excellent. Will definitely come again for the other dishes.
The omakase is nasty overpriced. Complete ripoff. Sushi is ok but everything else is terrible. All appetizers do not taste good. Service is ridiculously slow. The people who eat here regularly are so loud I can t even hear myself think. I don t understand how their rating is so high when their quality is so bad.
Good but pricey food.
Weve eaten here MANY times before, and every time we are impressed with the taste of the food. Its a bit on the pricey side - but it is well worth it! The food is great along with the variety you receive - partner that with the exquisite service makes this WELL WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY to visit them. Make sure to make a reservation out of common courtesy to the owners! We DID have one bone in the sashimi once though - but that is ok because they sincerely apologized immediately.
Nice cozy restaurant. Went there for lunch, ordered Toshi Special Lunch which comes with sushi, sashimi, tempura, miso soup and salad. Quality is decent and it was good size. Tempura was excellent!
Good food with fair price
Tea was lukewarm, lunch portions were small, food came out very slowly, and every single piece of sushi had wasabi in it. Not everyone likes the taste of wasabi!
Great uni!
We walked in planning to have omakase. The waiter took his time to clean the tables and after more than 20 min the tables were still not ready! The restaurant was not even busy! Horrible service and not efficient at all.
Very authentic. Good food. Worth the money to eat here.
Delicious authentic Japanese meal. I ordered the omekase which was a good value and comparable to more expensive restaurants. The actual restaurant was nicely furnished with a large sushi counter. Service was good - we felt bad as there was only 1 woman working very hard all night who was doing her best. Location had lots of parking. We phoned a few days in advance and had no problem getting a reservation over the holidays. Overall would go back!
Excellent omakase and one of the best priced. The chefs were so kind and put so much care into each dish. They had no issue with dietary considerations.
Toshi Ryoriten is our go to spot for some of the best sushi around for a very fair price. Order the Omakase menu to experience one heck of a meal!
Very professional chef, decent service and nice food. Owned by real Japanese people. I always get Toshi Set course when I come here. Highly recommended!!
Have been our go to for a Japanese omakase fix for years now. Good quality and fair pricing makes it one of our favs!
Great authentic Japanese food. Great sushi, tempura. Agedashi was really good as was the nasu dengaku (eggplant). Ran out several desserts unfortunately. We had the Matcha Mousse on a previous visit and it was delicious.
Came here for a la carte (not omakasee). Had salmon teriyaki for myself and tempura and rainbow roll to share. My friends ordered the beef teriyaki. The food was very average, nothing special. Salmon teriyaki was a bit bland and wasn t tender. Beef Teriyaki was nothing special either, according to my friends. Rainbow roll was very tiny. Presentation was nothing like a Japanese restaurant (eg the teriyaki was not served in a bento box but on a plate like Hong Kong-style restaurants). The salad wasn t served with the typical sour Japanese sauce but something more like the Thousand Island sauce. Quality was totally not worth the price ($65 per person). The server didn t have a smile on her, felt very unwelcoming. Made us feel as if we shouldn t be there since we weren t ordering omakasee. Felt cozy but a bit dark.
It even not worth the price. Especially the service was horrible. They were racism ppl who not speak Japanese. If you want udon soup for dinner. They charge you $ 3 more per order. It was extremely horrible experience. It rneb not worth one star. Hope their business close ASAP.
Ive been coming here regularly for the Toshi Course and its the best value for a table-seat style omakse in the Richmond Hill area. The service is a bit slow but most omakse courses do take about 2 hours to get through. The food tastes amazing and the fish are super fresh. Its my go-to place for sushi and sashimi. The place is run by a real Japanese chef and is very authentic.
If you are going here, this is a warning: Your lunch will run late, so make sure you have at least 2 hrs of which 1hr will be waiting for your order. The appetizers are pathetic. Chicken karage is literally FIVE pcs - smaller than a mcnugget. The set lunches takes forever. And somehow arrives before the appitizers. The sushi is very very... nothing special. At all. Its overpriced for what it is, the red tuna leaves red dye on the plate its served on, or worse, dye on the rice. This place is just, not worth revisiting given so many other sushi places that are near by, and priced the same or less. I didnt take pictures. My phone would be insulted.
I have mixed experiences at this location. In general the food is good albeit pricy (not all of them), and atmosphere is decently comfortable. However in my most recent visit I ve had headaches and nausea for the entire next day after dining there. I suppose it s due to the poor ventilation combined with the heavy smell of oil in the air. Hence I can t really recommend dining there unless you are immune to such environment or get a better seat. Ordered takeout once as well, can t recommend. After all you d want the entire dining experience rather than paying a good amount for food in cheap foam boxes.
Amazing fresh fish for a very reasonable price. The service is great! Feels very authentic. Highly recommend!
The store is not big, and there is only one waiter at noon on weekdays. It is probably moderately busy. ~ I ordered a few food items, thinking that the appetizers would be served soon without having to be cooked, but it turned out that the grilled beef tongue was served first. 10+ Grilled beef tongue is average, only 4-5 pieces, not very tasty. The appetizer tuna tataki tasted pretty good. Deluxe sashimi is fresh, Hokkaido sea urchin is plump and sweet, and the sashimi is good. Unfortunately, the enthusiasm for the deluxe sushi that I was looking forward to was gone, and I had to wait for more than half an hour before it was served. It seems like there is only one chef in charge of the back kitchen and front sushi area. The sushi is OK, but not amazing Maybe I came at the wrong time...
Quiet place to enjoy extremely high quality japanese. Two pre set menus to choose from if you do not want a la carte are worth the money. Consistently incredible food and service. I hope this place is around for a very long time.
fun experience, got to see the chefs prepare sushi in front of us. got the toshi course. matcha mousse dessert was really good, tuna was really fatty and melts in your mouth. each course came out at a good pace and we were full by the end of the meal. good for special occasions.
Nice little spot far away from downtown. Doesnt seem busy. Definitely not your average sushi place, but I wouldnt really do omakase here, either. Its more like an izakaya. Adjust your expectations and youd have a great time.
The food was average, nothing really special. We went for dinner and ordered a la carte, the food doesn t worth the price, will not go back again.
My husband likes their sushi, its traditional sushi, the ingredients are average, but the waiters attitude is impatient. Very small store, feels like a Japanese izakaya, hope to improve the service, no time limit. Parking is ample.
Good and friendly chef, hope they could tell us where those fish were caught almost rude waitress Chopsticks weren t clean
My one and only go to place for having really good sushi. Highly recommend going with the tasting menu so you get to experience a bunch of awesome dishes and definitely recommend making reservations ahead of time.
I rarely post poor reviews for restaurants, but this one was simply unacceptable. Average service from the waitress. Food was absolutely terrible. At first glance, the presentation was abysmal for the price. Paying $30+ for a teriyaki dinner course, I d expect decent food with an acceptable presentation. What we received was 3 peas, 3 carrots, and rubbery, dry chicken. Honestly looked like airplane food. Food took almost 1 hour to arrive, even though the waitress stated that the kitchen was fully operational and food would come out decently quick. Very poor experience, would not recommend coming again. Restaurant outlook is beautiful, service is alright, food is beyond horrible. No photos were taken because there was just no point. 0/10
Service was extremely slow. Only two chefs serving 15ppl including Omakase seating. Taking us 45mins to get the first appetizer on the table. And another 20mins to get the spider roll. The portion was very small and the spider roll tastes really bad and was just like the rolls where you can buy from the supermarket/Costco. We canceled the rest order and left since there s no point waiting any longer.
Outstanding Japanese cuisine! We had The Lunch Special (sashimi, sushi, tempura, salad and miso soup) and the Chickrn Katsu. All was fantastic! Food
bit expensive but worth the coin very fresh and had no idea what the waitress was talking about, will come back again
It is great to learn this restaurant was run by Japanese people. Great foods and good service.
Amazing authentic food
I am speechless at this high end price range but what weve got from there. Leave your comments here.
Good food, lovely environment, great service. Tried the a la carte menu, would love to try their omakase menu next time. (Photos previously uploaded)
really good sushi. The side dishes and skewers are also worth to try
We have been to many Sushi restaurants in the past, this is definitely one of the worst experiences ever. The service was alright, but the quality of food there is not up to par with the price point. Very very disappointed!
Just ate here for Mothers Day such a great Omakase experience. Lots of different dishes, food seems to just keeps coming and the cherry on top it is at a very reasonable price point. Think they are all Japanese chefs too. Must eat here if you are in the mood for Japanese food.
Really enjoyed the food. Rather expensive.
i have their omakase s often. this was the $75 omakase and it s consistently yummy, fresh and satisfying. waitress are always pretty friendly. cute quiet restaurant that s always on my restaurant rotation.
Food is really a surprise for its price. Chef is also really good at making the sushi. 1 star less because time waiting for food was long. This place easily beats many omakase places in Ontario.
High quality Japanese cuisine, always very enjoyable. Call ahead for the sushi bar table.
Great portion for the dinner set, authentic Japanese dishes, will come back for omakase
They have a very reasonable price for omakase
Good Japanese restaurant in Richmond Hill. Recommended the Toshi Course (Omakaze) for $95 person.
Great environment and the staff were very nice. The food was good, but did not stand out for me. I am willing to try again.
Reserved 2 spots a couple of days in advance for a saturday 5:30pm sitting at the sushi bar. Ordered Omakase for 2. For its price, I felt that it is a reasonable cost for the quality and amount of food. The meal as a whole was very tasty as the chef hand makes and places food right in front of you to eat. I would come for special occasions or on a monthly go to place to eat great quality fish. The atmosphere is very elegant, with hardwood walls, a live edge wood bar, a huge granite slab behind the prep area. Would definitely come back. Parking: There is a parking lot that has a sufficient amount of space for the plaza that this restaurant is located in.
The price is high, the portion is too small, the taste is average, selling point is Japanese boss
One of my favourite omakase restaurants in York Region. Sushi bar in front of the chef seats 8. Been coming here many times for the omakase dining and never disappointed. The fish is always super fresh and served in a very timely fashion. The 2 omakase selections are $75 and $95 which is very fair priced for what you get. I definitely recommend going with the $95 option as it includes the appetizers and sashimi dish which is delicious! Every single person I bring here are amazed by this little gem in Richmond Hill.
food not good as before
Excellent omakase meal - one of the more affordable ones in Markham. The service was great when it wasn t busy but once the restaurant filled up, it was obvious they needed more help. There was only one server and she was doing her absolute best. The food quality was excellent and super fresh and tasty. Would definitely recommend to others!
Worst sushi I have ever had in my life! I am not sure how good their omakase is. But if you are planning to do a-la-carte here, Id ask you to avoid this place. Their food is extremely overpriced. Nothing on their $58 sushi moriawase is fresh. Literally NOTHING. The seaweed of their rolls is soggy and the fish quality is bad. Not even the ginger is fresh! And guess what, two of my friends and myself who had the sushi had a stomach bug after dinner. The other one friend felt OK since he only had the chicken teriyaki and the spider rolls. But those are extremely unappetizing and overpriced too. Just dont go here.
Overall - Great little Japanese restaurant. Got the Toshi course. The course was really good and satisfying. In terms of taste, the food is comparable to some other Omakase for lower price. Unfortunately because this not a Omakase only restaurant it does fall short a bit in the service department. The Chefs do their best to cater to everyone, so there maybe long gaps between pieces. I would say this is a good budget Omakase restaurant.
I recently dined at Toshi Ryoriten, and I must say, the experience left me thoroughly disappointed. I had high hopes for their sushi and sashimi, but what I encountered was far from what I expected. Lets start with hygiene, which is absolutely critical when it comes to raw fish. Sadly, Toshi Ryoriten fell short in this department. The dining area didnt look particularly clean, and I couldnt help but notice some questionable spots on the table. It made me wonder how clean their kitchen and food preparation areas are. When it comes to sushi and sashimi, cleanliness is paramount, and this was a big letdown. Now, onto the food itself. I dont mind paying a bit more for high-quality sushi, but what I received didnt justify the price tag at all. The sushi and sashimi were subpar in terms of freshness and taste. Ive had better sushi at TnT Supermarket at a fraction of the cost. The fish didnt taste particularly fresh, and some pieces had an odd texture that left me concerned about its quality. Moreover, the presentation was lackluster. When you go to a sushi restaurant, you expect a certain level of artistry in how the dishes are plated. Sadly, Toshi Ryoriten didnt deliver on this front either. The plates lacked the visual appeal that is part of the sushi dining experience. Overall, I cannot recommend Toshi Ryoriten to anyone looking for a satisfying sushi and sashimi experience. The lack of hygiene and quality, coupled with the high prices, make it a disappointing choice. Save your money and go elsewhere if you want sushi thats not only affordable but also of a much higher standard.
Absolutely exquisite 16 course Omakase with the best value for money in York Region. Please try the Toshi Course at the Sushi Bar and you will definitely not be disappointed. Every single piece of food was an absolute pleasure to eat. Its our go to place.
Great value for the price. Service is good. Reservation is highly recommended.
Back in the beginning of 2020 this used to be the best sushi place in Richmond Hill. But the food quality and quantity has dramatically deteriorated in the past year. Can t believe my Unagi Don contains only THREE pieces of Eel now. Really hope the owner could see my review and improve the food. Service is always good.
Worth the price, overall the quality of the omakase menu is very good.
Omakase. Everything was really good from start to finish. Fantastic service, fantastic food, and more affordable than other restaurants omakase. Chef Mori-san was a delight. Definitely coming back here again. If you want good sashimi, sushi, check it out.
I came for lunch. Everything was average. I ordered the shrimp/ veg tempura. They were soggy because the chef poured sauce on them which I did not expect that as it supposed be crunchy. Maybe this is their style. Food : 3/5
Very rude staff, and dirty. Waitress who may be the boss is rude, lazy, and mean. The sushi was stale and it smelled fishy. This place was my favourite but it has gone downhill for sure. I would not come back unless it s under new management. They need to clean up!
The food was fresh, the taste was good and the price was fair, but the service was very busy, which made the experience worse.
The omakase for lunch at 95 feels average, and several of them have a distinct fishy smell. The overall feeling is nothing amazing and I wont go there a second time. The environment is very average. What about the service? Well, I saw reviews saying that it was rude, but I just feel that the server is not suitable for service. I feel like shes the bosss relative or wife.
Food are Fresh and Yummy, Nice Japanese Plum Wine on The Rocks.
This Japanese restaurant is not worth your money if you order from the a-la-carte menu. The items there are extremely overpriced. Nothing special in any of the dishes there. Just a simple Futomaki, they charge you over $20! Insane! I should have read the previous reviews before I went to here but I was in a rush to pick a restaurant nearby as we were starving and it was getting late. It was one of the biggest mistakes ever that I had made in my choice of restaurant that I had to leave my Google review for the first time so others would not make the same mistake I did. As a side note, I spent over $120 for the two of us but still left the restaurant feeling hungry and I am not even a big eater to begin with.
Great Place, Good Quality
2 stars only for service and even then it wasn t anything great. I would agree with most of the 1-2 star reviews, if you re coming here for a la carte, maybe take a minute to reconsider. We got their chicken kaarage, a dynamite roll, a spicy salmon roll, the beef teriyaki dinner set and their chicken yakitori. The beef teriyaki itself was good, came cold after a 20-30ish minute wait but it was the highlight. The sushi was more than pathetic (pictures included) and the yakitori was decent after being doused in the chili powder. It was ayce sushi quality but for an elite price with none of the elite perks included. I ve gotten more kaarage from AYCE places for half the price. I saw someone else comment that the free miso soup was the best dish and I wholeheartedly agree. I ll definitely be spending my $80 elsewhere, preferably somewhere I ll actually be filled and satisfied with this kinda price range.
My favorite omakase restaurant in Richmond hill, the sushi is very fresh and the price is quite affordable compared to other omakase restaurants in the GTA
Love this little Japanese restaurant. Their omakase is pretty affordable and delicious! Highly recommend.
Its small but cozy. Food is OK, the service was not really good, she provides most of the fish name in Japanese, how can I understand? But its definitely pricing, maybe I dont taste the value.
Excellent food, excellent service! Everything that was served to us was very fresh. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Servers were attentive and friendly. I had a wonderful dining experience with my partner :)
Not worth the Price.
The ambiance is great especially by the sushi bar. Our chef was so funny and kind making sure we were taken care of. Went for my birthday for the second year in a row and both times were amazing. I love celebrating here for a more intimate setting
Very authentic Japanese food. Love the food, Lux atmosphere, and very nicee staff.
Very good and authentic Japanese food at this price
We booked a dinner in November, supposed to be SIX 30, but when we got there, we were told the the reservation is 7:30. We have other schedules after, so one we can t accept a hour late. We have to cancel the appointment. We travelled a long way from Atlantic provinces to Toronto, and we were excited to have a good Japanese food here. However, that is not possible now. We called ahead of time to avoid such kind of thing and no one answer the phone. Such experience is REALLY disappointing and the waitress s attitude is not polite. We did even have a sorry. We didn t taste the food so we will not judge that. But such service and attitude, we will rate one star. If you want to make a reservation, record your conversation. At least you might get a sorry . Good luck
Tastes bad. Fish skins are not peeled completely. Sashimi has bad tastes.
Lots of stuffs to choose and huge space and the sales are friendly
Delicious sushi lunch and courteous service. Sushi Lunch $22 TOSHI SPECIAL LUNCH$32 Taste and service. Im always happy.
Our go to place in Markham / Richmond Hill for higher end sushi without breaking the bank. This is the only dine in restaurant that weve visited during the pandemic. The tables are far apart with plexiglass barriers and all chefs and staff wear facemasks. It never feels crowded here and we feel safe when visiting this restaurant. We were fortunate to have been able to visit right before modified stage 2, and hope we can come back again soon!
Budget-friendly omakase in a quaint restaurant. Chef is Japanese and sashimi were fresh. Note that this is an entry-level omakase, ordered Tsukidashi course $70 and Toshi course $90. Flavour was good for this price. If you expect extravagant service or menu items, please pay $100 more and go somewhere else.
Food is fresh and service is good
Food is A plus. The place is well designed and clean. I loved that the place was nice and quiet. Lunch is perfect to try this restaurant at a lower price point than what they normally charge.
Sashimi not fresh Sushi rice
This is a must try if you enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine, fabulous food, perhaps the best Toro and Unagi sushi I have ever had. Very cozy interior and very warm service. Highly, highly recommended
Sooooo good! Sushi melts in my mouth
The food overall is good! However, the service lady, who wear the glasses, was very RUDE. I dont know what happened to her, but would not want to see her face ever again
Good service, good food, you wont be disappointed.
really great experience for trying omakase. i enjoyed the food all throughout, im definitely coming back
Place is bit pricier but good quality!
Spacy salmon tasted like vinegar
It s very noisy and there are a lot of kids. It s not bad to eat, but the two of us ate over 200 and didn t eat anything. We were a little speechless. The food was served very slowly and there were no people in the restaurant, but it was super slow. I don t understand why sushi is so slow
My go to omakase! Price is fair but i found that their portion has become smaller esp the rice of the sushi. Has to order more items on the side but quality and service are good
Delicious omakase. The quality of the fish was incredible, and the selection of sake is great.
I tried the omakasa, they tastes so good. excellent service.
The food was delicious, but it was definitely pricey for what you get. If thats not an obstacle for you, then this is a nice selection of sushi, sashimi, and hot dishes.
The sushi set lunch is delicious. The ratio of rice and vinegar is just perfect. The texture of rice is chewy and soft. The fish is fresh and tasty.
Had a rough day at work yesterday. Drove by Toshi Ryoriten on my way home. Went in and ordered a few of my favourite sushi. Sushi were served in perfect taste and thoughtful sequence. Paid my bill in 10 mins and walked out with my heart/tummy full. Thanks for keeping up the authentic Japanese sushi quality after COVID. And most import. Thanks for showing me happiness and joy can be easy and simple. Your dedication, consistency and hard work have shown in your good food. Our hood is blessed to have such great restaurant around.
Sushi was warm and didnt stick to the rice at all wen u tried picking it up. Not worth the high price 1 sushi lunch, 1 beer. 33$ Beer is 8$ for a coors light. Save ur money and go to an all u can eat
Authentic Japanese food. Not just sushi. However, Id recommend avoid the Teriyaki dishes, as they are heavily North Americanized.
Both sea urchins had a bitter smell, as if they were liquefied. I feel like I m going to rot Xiaohongshu even boasts about the must-order sea urchin, which is sweet and refreshing. Really smelly and bitter. The smell couldnt go away even after three cups of tea. The yellow and dark environment makes it very ugly to take pictures. Very average. The sushi rice is not firm or sticky. The chopsticks fall apart when touched. Serving food extremely slow
Good for high quality sushi lunch for the area
Best value omakase, very fresh and delicious.
Great place, great quality. Really enjoyed the course!
We ordered some salmon sushi, which cost $6 a piece. The fish didn t taste fresh at all. It had an old fishy taste and the salmon was very thinly cut. Definitely not worth what I paid for. The katsu and tempura were good and fresh. Won t be returning.
First time going for Omakese. Love the experience and food was excellent . $95 per person . You can choose between $75 and $95
A very nice small upscale Japanese restaurant, serving fresh fish from Japan, very innovative Japanese cuisine with fresh products and nice presentations, friendly and helpful staff.
It was okay. The service was fine but wasnt amazing. the quality of fish was okay. Some pieces were a bit watery such as hamachi and Toro sashimi. The amaebi could have been sweeter. The noodle soup provided at the end was horrible. It was piiiping hot and didnt taste good. That dish didnt make any sense to be honest. Flavors overall arent as refined and balanced as other omakase Ive been to. Value is okay.
Large price tag for food that was not that good. The fish was too cold (almost icy) relative to the rice, rolls were falling apart, chicken teriyaki was dry. Food also came disjointed with long gaps between 1 dish to the next. Was really hoping for a better experience for a place with such high reviews. Did not finish our full dinner and left to finish dinner for the evening elsewhere.
Great food, service and atmosphere! Baby friendly! Worth every dollar! A place we will frequent regularly moving forward!! Food : 5/5
Very mediocre food, even TNT sushi is more presentable and edible. Sushi/sashimi is uneven thin slices, dry rice and not comparable to other places at similar prices ranges.
Awesome option for authentic Japanese cuisine in the Richmond Hill area!
The night makes me miss Japan! Thank you
Very fresh sushimi
Whenever I am feeling like a comfort meal, I come here for lunch. Their udon is just so good, Im obsessed.
Excellent place for authentic Japanese sushi! Ive been there for dinner and ordered the pair fix menu and it was fantastic. From presentation, sequence, timing, portions, everything was very well done, explained and tasted delicious. I would definitely recommend this place for sushi lovers Parking: Restaurant located in a plaza. Parking available in front and vicinity
Honestly I was quite disappointed with the food and service quality here. Obviously you cant compare Toshi Ryoriten to restaurants like Yasu (which is amazing) in downtown, as these belong in different price tiers of Omakase. That being said, there should be some sort of expectation when youre paying 90 plus for a course. And unfortunately it really does fall short in terms of what I expected. First of all, the nigiri was really not anything to boast about. The selection was ok. The worst part was that 30% of most individual nigiri pieces consisted of overpowering wasabi. I understand that it is conventional to add wasabi to nigiri pieces and I probably had the option to remove wasabi completely. However, usually in other Omakase restaurants; the chefs only put a touch of wasabi to complement the natural flavours of fish. Not the overpowering wasabi taste I experienced the other night there. I do have to give credit where it is due, the duck liver nigiri piece was really good, flavours were on point but thats about the only highlight of the night. Other appetizers were really just overpriced items, nothing special. Service on the other hand was mediocre at best. Dont want to get into details but lets just say I didnt feel the customer service quality, especially this type of restaurant. Felt like some HK cafe waitresses give better services. All in all, if you want a low entry point of Omakase experience, go for it. But personally I would rather dish out an extra 100-200 and try other higher end spots. As the complexity of flavours and customer services of those restaurants are miles ahead of Toshi Ryoriten. Or if you wanna eat tasty budget sushi, there are plenty of other options. Thank you
excellent quality and reasonable price
Lovely place to go to! Their Hokkaido uni is superb.
poor service. very slow.
Great services! We ordered $90 omakase, great value!
Authentic Japanese restaurant with a great Japanese food. We try duck, dumplings and sushi. The sushi master was very neat and professional.
Food is good and server is very polite. But kitchen is a bit slow. Will bring my family for dinner.
Heard about this place so I ordered over the phone for one Premium Sashimi Moriwase and one SUSHI Moriwase. The person taking the order didnt check with me sashimi or sushi just assumed it was for Sashimi maybe because I ordered Premium Sashimi Moriwase first. My wife picked up the order and when she came home we were both very confused and disappointed. I called back to let them know of this and the person who was taking the order was very confrontational. He was adamant he was not at fault (and I never said it was...). He also said it was my job to let him know and confirm the order and check the online menu. This person even had the audacity to hang up on me immediately after. I just spent $130 dollars (sub total which by the way I had to ask for over the phone) for take out sushi. Maybe business is so good they dont need another customer. Im obviously not coming back here again or would recommend this place. There are other options available nearby. NOW LETS SEE THEIR EXCUSES BELOW:
