Korean Food, K-food, Soul food, Homemade food,
If you want amazing porkbone soup, this is the spot. Not a fancy restaurant but the food is on point every single time. Portion is plenty. Food seasoning is on point and amazing assortment of condiments.
Hello all I finally visited The owl of Minerva I don't know why I didn't go sooner. They are so friendly and welcoming, and the food was full a of flavor and yes I devoured all of it can still taste it. 🤤
I’ve been to this Owl location in Richmond Hill on multiple occasions over the years. While menu prices have steadily increased, the Korean flavors here are still among the better ones nearby. After all, the Owl chain is among the original Korean food in the city. The go-to is still the Pork Bone Soup in either individual portions or the family hotpot style that feeds 2-3 people. I also enjoyed the heat of the spicy squid sizzling plate which came in a generous portion. Both of these and many other dishes come with rice. Side dishes tended to be slight let-downs, as the house kimchi didn’t taste great here. I was also surprised they ran out of bibimbap when we tried to order it initially. The service here is straight to the point without the customary friendliness at some other Owl locations. The interior is clean although on the smaller side. It has one door straight into the interior which gets chilly. Fortunately Korean food is hot comfort food.
The food here is amazing! Had the following dishes: Family sized Pork bone soup 2 different types of Korean fried chicken (both delicious). Beef short ribs (probably the best I've ever had) Will definitely going again and again!
The pork katsu with rice is nice. The fried pork is crispy. The flour surface is thin. The meat is of good quality. The sweet and sour sauce for the katsu is well balanced. Instead of pouring on the katsu and undoing crispy surface, it is served in a separate small container. This reflects that the chef attends to details. Also appreciate very much that furikake / rice seasoning is applied. What impresses me most is the lemon dressing on the salad. This makes the salad strikingly refreshing in particular in the late summer. The attendants are friendly. (We spent almost two hours there but they were friendly throughout the meal). The environment is also good. A delightful experience in dining at this restaurant .
Friendly staff. Great value food. The side dishes are the best. 11/25: Take out jap chae and pancake were subpar. Dumpling and pork bone soup were good
Consistent service and quality of food for the chain. There are definitely better places for authentic Korean food but these outside chain locations can offer a nice alternative when you're not in the Korea town areas of the city. Parking here can be challenging at times as it is limited in the plaza. The restaurant can get filled with students from the nearby high school during weekday lunch hours. Seating is fairly limited.
Reasonable priced classic Korean comfort food, side dishes are limited but actual entrées are above average I've been going here for a couple years now and it maintains to be very good. The staff if very kind and accommodating in certain modifications. I give them 8/10!
We are a long time customers and very happy with the quality of service and food. Great location, great staff and delicious food. Thank you!
The chicken stone rice is good, the fried noodles are so salty!
Good food. Have a lot of options.
Every time got my order and look bone is a lot for Gamjatang.. feel like I am a Dog....
Bad experience. Ordered a bulgogi dish, the cook totally forgot about my order. Then to try to make up for it, cooks one of the worst bulgogi dishes I have ever eaten in 5 minutes. The meat was so bland he probably didn t even bother to season it
Our favourite owl (compared to Mississauga and Guelph) food was excellent, quick and the service was great
Only tons of green onions were in their seafood pancake if you like flour and green onion then go ahead. seafood means just quater finger nail size squid and servral small shrimp. Grab your own Korean cookbook and make your own at home is way better than spend $30 just on the dough. Absolutely not worth it at all. Even Chinese food is more honest than this
Great food! Express service
Food is great, service can be better.
Ordered Uber eat but missed the rice. Staff drove to my house to deliver the rice back to me with extra drinks as compensation. Very appreciated the business and service. Food is delicious as usual! Highly recommended!!
I ve been to a few other places and the food here is not the best but it s decent enough. My main issue with this location is the young waitress is extremely rude and impolite. She slams the drinks onto our table and does not respond when we talk to her. She looks at us coldly and is just super gross in attitude. This location needs serious staff training if they treat their customers like this. I m not sure if it s because I don t order much but this is not acceptable treatment.
Food tasted great, portions are big, service was pretty good.
Good food. Good service. Small space.
I love OWL. Its like going home and enjoying this lovely, healthy foods. Kid-friendliness: Kids would love here. So many choices. Food : 5/5 |
This is something Owl of Minerva management will have to consider about their customer service. But I highly appreciate the taste of their food. I am sharing this experience I had when I went there for the second time. Date - 31st March 2024 and time was around 7pm. We were served by a nice young lady and she was very disciplined. But when I went to pay the bill, I understood that there s a separate tip box and my bill was about $38 odd. I gave her $100 and she gave me 1x$50,2x$5 and coins. As she only gave $1 coin with 25 cent coin I firstly put $1 coin in to the tip box. I didn t want to put any cent as I had more $1,$2 coins in my wallet so I just wanted to take my wallet out of my pocket. But before that, the old lady who was at cashier laughed and asked is it 25 cents in sarcastic way. It was not polite at all and I felt embarrassed. Then I showed her the 25cent coin in my hand to let her know that I didn t put any cent into the tip box and then I put $3 more into the tip box asking is it enough for her. I think $4 tip is enough for a $38 bill. But her attitude towards tips was very bad and it made me embarrassed after a good meal. That lady who s craving for tips should be definitely trained for customer service before she makes another customer unhappy. Specially when they re from a different origin than Owl of Minarva s as Canada is a multicultural country. We love Korean food and their culture that s the sole reason for visiting it multiple times. But now we have to think of going there again. Parking: There s more parking towards the east side of the restaurant(court complex)
Good Korean food! Can t go wrong their gamjatang and their fried chicken is amazing
Average food and a bit pricey.
Excellent food. Fast responsive service. Very good! Reasonable prices.
Good food and good service. Highly recommended
Great place, very friendly staff would recommend visiting to try them out. Also enjoyed the atmosphere.
Regularly order takeout. Great food!
Order the pork bone soup and Korean fried chicken
Had to wait for LA galbi for 30mins which was supposed to be a combo with my cold noodle. Such a horrible experience to sit there with my noodle until the galbi arrived.
I was not impressed with my experience in this location. The food was mediocre. The price was ok. The quality of the food can be improve. I was disappointed with service as the servers were very grumpy. I did not bother asking them for anything. The location in Northyork is way better, specially the service. Hope they learn from them.
Food was delicious! We had the KamjaTang and Dakchulpan and woooow so many flavours! I m really a picky eater but this was a treat, meat was tender and pork meat was falling off the bone. The mixture of kimchi, cucumber, beans sprout and radish were a nice touch, most definitely recommending it. Friendly staff and dining area was pleasant.
Good Korean grub!! I like the Pork Bone soup
Overall a very tasty place to eat if you are only there to eat! The decor was lacking but the food and staff was excellent. Great place for a quick bite at a fair price.
A great place to eat, with generous portions of food.
Great service, good kimchi, very good gamjatang (pork bone soon)
The worst pork bone soup ive ever had. I ordered take out for 2 pork bone soup. cost $36 something . The container was full with soup with only 2 pieces of pork bone meat , and half of each piece are fatty and not eatable at all. The other 2 locations (yonge/finch) and (Woodbine /7) server better food
Low key spot in Richmond Hill for some hearty soup. Both the pork bone soup and bulgogi beef stew were delicious. Averagely priced (15-20$ per soup) with a decent amount of meat in it. The side dishes were okay.
Good Korean food and services
We ordered takeout recently. All the meals tasted good and the prices were good compared to other Korean restaurants. It has become our regular spot for a quick Korean meal.
Ordered gom tang and got 5 pcs of thin sliced beef and less than a handful of noodles. For something thats worth 20.99 I expect actual food and not left overs. If I could give negative star, I would.
The best Owl of Minerva franchise! I used to go to it so often in high school and now I still crave the Pork Bone Soup (Gamjatang) all the time!! Love the service here, they are all incredibly nice
Taste good, but some of the ingredients are pretty raw
The best Pork Bone soup I ever had .Its a great dining experience with friends.Staff are very courteous and smiling face
Had the pork bone soup, stone bowl bibimbap, stir fried pork. All dishes were solid and hearty. The pork bone soup had huge meaty pieces of tender, fall off the bone pork bones. Food came pretty quickly and the waitresses also gave us refills of the side dishes. Really enjoyed the meal here!
My wife and I have been eating here regularly for years. Their kamjatang is my favourite in the GTA. My wife also loves their seafood soon do bu. Definitely a staple in our restaurant rotation :)
The portions are generous and taste are good. Servers are attentive.
I went for an order pick up and they add 15% tip to my bill without asking me and when I asked she pretended she didnt do it and when I asked to cancel it she got upset gave my order with cold rice a d late while I was watching her and I told her this is very unprofessional for you to service your neighborhood customers I whould not go again there and I hope their managers do something about it ,
Worst food ever I ordered mild noodle It was spicy and when I told them , they didn t care Just ignored me Pretended they don t understand High price Low quality Tim hortons better atmosphere Don t recommend at all After you put real review , some people start putting fake review opposite and say it is the best place
It was my first visits ever to this place for lunch. I really like the food and friendly service. The food here is very delicious. I will definitely visit this place again
Always eat here when I travel past for work just picked up the best lunch you could ever have, stop by and try them out of you havent. I love the spicy and flavour. Thanks again
Expensive. The quantity is small. The price is the same as in the paradise. There are only three pieces of ribs. The beef in the cold noodles is not for human consumption. The wood is so bad! Not delicious
I went for a late lunch today. While the employees were eating No one cared if we needed anything more. Just bring the food to our table and thats it. I wonder why I have to tip.
This place is so delicious and it hasn t changed over the past 20 years. It s perfect.
Markham Gamjatang, the highest quality
Always very delicious food and staff are very nice
I ordered glass noodles, bulgogi beef, and 6pc dumplings. We were given a large portion for a relatively low price, the quality of the food was good and the free kimchi was great (and they gave us a lot!) overall love this place and will be coming back soon.
Food is good service is fast Good on a cold day Food
A hidden gem in Richmond Hill for Korean food. The pork bone soup here is my go to dish and it never disappoints. The staff is friendly and efficient. Its a small place so seating is limited.
I was in the area and this place caught my eye. I decided to stop by for a quick lunch. They had an extensive lunch menu. I ordered dakchulpan which was spicy chicken with vegetables served with rice and kimchi and a drink. The service was quick and professional. The food was really tasty and I enjoyed my lunch. Take out container was sealed and not resealable which was inconvenient. If you pay cash there is a 5% discount. Worth the visit,
We get take out here on my way home from work. Great selection and the food quality is consistent.
Great service ang great quality of food! Been here many times, I highly recommend!
Pork bone soup was always good here
Food is surprisingly underwhelming for the reputation of this restaurant chain. Both dishes I ordered were supposed to have seafood and I could literally count how few pieces of seafood were there. The soup broth lacks flavours. Both dishes tasted/looked like they had been cooked by someone who has never had any culinary training. Waste of $55 for something even I can make better.
Very rude, refused to seat us at 9:20 when they close at 10:30pm on their web page. I am korean and I was embarrassed by their service. 5 workers standing around and one table seated, they just wanted to go home. Told me the kitchen is closed. Restaurants are closing their doors because of Co-vid but owl of minerva wants to side with laziness.
The service attitude here is particularly poor, you can feel from the heart that they are unwilling to serve you, their eyes make you feel uncomfortable, and they force you to tip 15%.
Pork bone soup was amazing and great size
Warm, informal ambiance. Staff very attentive. Orders arrived promptly, served at a rolling boil, meat still sizzling, vegetables crackling hot, on stoneware and cast-iron dishes, the style Owl is truly famous for. Oddly contrasted by their choice of disposable paper cups for tea and water, which was off-putting. What happened to the plastic dishwasher-safe drinking glasses typical of Owl? That would have matched the familiar, comforting homestyle surroundings as in the Mississauga and Spadina locations. Criticism: the occasional strong whiffs of kitchen cleaner in the air towards the end of the meal. Thats not a trademark Owl characteristic, nor one that anyone is fond of. Perhaps it was a kitchen accident, I dont know. Hopefully not a regular occurrence.
Food was great and freindly staffs. Really cool restaurant if you want to and try out korean foods. Kudos to the team.
Great time
Good korean food but service need to improve.
Owl, needless to say, it s a delicious Korean meal. The portion is large and you ll definitely be full. There s also a discount for lunch, but I still don t know why it feels a bit expensive.
This restaurant really doesnt live up to its name. We ordered stir fried squid over rice and a bowl of knife cut noodles. There was barely any meat or toppings in the noodles and the broth was watery with no flavour. The side dishes all tasted odd, like they were left sitting for a long time. The service was alright but overall just not a good place for Korean food. Prices are also high for what you get.
closed 10:00pm arrived at 9:20pm been told take out only because they closed soon. we not there last minute 40 minutes enough for eating. there still many people inside eating. really bad experience.
Spend $70 for seafood pancake and two soon tofu, the seafood pancake is uncook, green onion is RAW and cold. Soup is plain. I won t order again:(
Kid-friendliness: All their food are delish. Not all the dishes are spicy.
quality is worse than the FMP location. ordered the beef soup and it tasted like water even when adding salt and pepper. the beef was unchewable i had to spit it out. i told the server and she said thats how its supposed to be... then proceeded to argue that i shouldve added more salt and that they dont do dish changes. then she talked to the chef who agreed to change. she stayed at our table with her hand on our chair to try an intimidate us. i dont know why she felt the need to do this and definitely will never be back and do not recommend this place at all.
Good food for small restaurant
The chicken katsu was over fired. When I am talking with the employee, the employee was stone talking and smiling. I am not going to order any more.
It s the best choice when you don t know what to eat. My favorite is the pork bone soup. And seeing the price going up during these years... sigh...
Had the homemade chicken noodle soup very good
The food is so tasty, but may be too spicy for my stomach.
I just love Korean food! The chap Chae and stir fried beef with rice were perfect. Very generous servings
Delicious and quality service!
Worst Korean food I ve ever had. Foods were not fresh and over priced. Very disappointing.
Nice restaurant with delicious Korean food:)
Taste is not bad, but a 20 dollars seafood tofu soup on Ubereat with a few tiny shrimps and one mussel is definitely not worth it. Won t order from owl ever again.
A bit disappointed
Food leaked due to poor packaging. All the food has a fishy smell that is unique to the ingredients, and the kimchi stew tastes like Miwon, where the kimchi has been rinsed. All food was undercooked. The meat in the kimchi stew came out in lumps of frozen meat, but the inside was undercooked. The taste wasnt edible and the smell was so bad that I only ate the unripe vegetables and threw them all away. I paid over $70 for the kimchi stew, pork, and stir-fried squid. Uber first contacted me about a refund, but no matter how I looked at it, it wasnt Ubers fault, so I declined. I have no intention of going for a refund, and I dont know anything else, but Im uploading this because I hope its fixed because undercooked pork is hygienically dangerous.
Fantastic food and even better employees; this location is one of my go-tos for Korean food
This owl is much better than other one, will order again
After living in Korea for a year and coming back, we love that Owl of Minerva is very close to the mom & pop classic Korean restaurant. Would love to see some gimbab here, but were not picky... the dishes are very tasty and a good value!
Its definitely overpriced for what youre getting, but still good.
little loud TV noise when we were dining (our seat was just under the TV), but the BBQ style beef was really good! Not pricy too.
This is my go to place when I need a Korean food fix. Have their amazing spicy pork bone soup, or the bibimbap, you won t be disappointed!!
I ve always liked The Owl at almost all locations. Their food used to be good at this Majormac location but today was a big disappointment. First time i ordered takeout of Pork bone soup from a restaurant and it came in a pre-packaged vacuum sealed container. I called the restaurant when i got home and opened my order, they said they made it in store and thats how it is. But seriously the container is just bigger than the pre-made frozen ones i can buy from the supermarket and it actually taste like the frozen pre-packaged pork bone soup from The Owl. Very disappointed. See pictures.
Amazing food for good price. The staff are sooo nice and kind.
Nice no frills Korean restaurant.
Excellent food and service
I ordered for pick up and was told to come pick up in 15 mins, upon arrival 20 mins after they told me it wasnt ready. They in fact havent even started my order when I came, the store was empty and there was no other orders waiting to pick up on the table either. Very bad customer service. I had to wait there for another 15 mins for my food
One of the best Pork Bone Soup in town
We went during lunch time tried gamjatang and squid red spicy plate. gamjatang was average flavour. squid plate i loved the sauce. update Nov.2021 went here for early lunch. It was only korean place opens early. ordered bulgogi lumch and kimchi jjigae bulgogi was good with big portion but kimchi jjigae wasnt that good as I expected.
Best simple Korean resto in GTA. Best part is the complimentary sides and pork bone soup
Nice food.
Really good pork bone soup (gamjatang).
Great !
Good food and friendly service
Good service. There are many Korean restaurants in GTA. But I just feel you cant go wrong for Owl of Minerva.
Called to ask about the restaurants holiday hours. The woman answered impatiently and hung up abruptly before I could even ask her about the closing time of the day .... All she said was See you latttttttterh.
I go here all the time so I haven t had a chance to make a review so here it is. For fast and delicious Korean food this place is constantly reliable. We always order the pork bone soup and it is ALWAYS consistent! Service is fast and friendly which we love. This is a local favourite for us. You can always catch up on all your fav k-pop groups on the TVs too:)
Great place with great price. Especially their pork bone soap
not great
Great takeout spot for during covid. They are open later than most restaurants in the plazas nearby. Dishes are prepared fast and come with a side of kimchi (dinner meals). Would recommend!
Just picked up a takeout from the store at Major Mac n Bayview. All staffs work inside do not mask. Will not go back again!!
we bought take out here. the wait time was not bad around 20 mins. the staffs are friendly. The food was good. The food package was very clean and neat We recommend this place.
great food
Ive been mostly doing takeout from this location. Ive dined-in once and the atmosphere was great. The staff is attentive and nice and the food was delicious. My favourite things to order are the bossam or jokbal. The seasoning is perfect and just what I need when Im looking for Korean comfort food. Their gomtang is another favourite. All in all, a great place to come for Korean comfort food with friends and family.
our server is so friendly. love their porkbone soup!
We went there for the first time tonight since our normal spot Bueokae was really busy and we couldnt wait. We decided to give Owl a try since its a franchise and have been around for a long time. Im not sure if all the locations is owned by the same person, but this location was quite bad. We ordered pork bone soup, seafood pancake, Pork cutlet and etc. Food was served in plastic bowls and plates reasoning was covid, kinda lame excuse but wateva. There was absolutely no flavor in any of the dishes we ordered, pork bone soup tasted like chicken broth from a can with pork bone, pork cutlet was not tender and tasteless, pancake was thick and soft not crispy at all. Kim chi and side dishes tasted really sour and again no flavor, Kim Chi sold at any local supermarket would have a better chance. One of the male servers was quite rude as well, when I said excuse me to get his attention, he replied What although he kinda corrected himself I thought it was very unprofessional and needs to be trained. The icing on the cake is now my wife has diarrhea. I would give it 0 if possible. Not going back again guranteed.
Terrible. Ordered a take-out Pork bone soup and food was cold by the time I got home (5 minutes) the packaging indicated that it most likely was frozen the potato was also undercooked and the kimchi was too spicy. 12 dollars 10% off with cash. I easily could have bought a frozen porkbone soup from the grocery store for 5 dollars less save the car ride there.
First time on this location and over exceeded my expectations. During this time they will serve your food on plastic containers/utensils.You get greeted right away by the server. Food taste fresh and it s cheap so please don t forget to give tips to the server!
Good service and quality of food
Worth to try it
Same as the usual Owl quality for Kam Ja Tang.
The Owl of Minerva is always a good place to take a quickie dinner. I order their pork bone soup and L.A. beef ribs every time. But nothing I would recommend other then those two choices. Price here is very decent or a bit lower then average for a dinner here.
The staff are very nice and accomodating!
Love this place
Delicious food!
so i am a studint of bay view second school and i went to here to eating and when i eating i go washroom and see big big poopoo and i ask food maker why is poopoo here and he tell me that it is the service of the restaurant, BECAUSE THIS RESTAURANT IS HAVE SUCKING
Amazing service and AMAZING FOOD! gotta try!
Weekly destination.
food was bland. what can i say..... we will never go back..... all 3 of our meals disappointing. Plus they gave us salt and pepper and asked if we wanted a fork. Waiter could not understand me. Should have walked out right away! I might as well lit the money on fire. the broth was water, not simmered even close to long enough.
Food is amazing its small but a group of 6 to 8 could squeeze in an enjoy a awesome shared meal. Sooooo much to try and sooo little room in my Tummy
Great Korean food for very reasonable prices! Friendly owner.
Simple decor. AMAZING FOOD. The pork bone soup is absolutely fantastic. Service is prompt with a willing to please attitude. This little family run restaurant is a hidden jewel.
Pork bone soup is amazing. Service is a bit sketchy.
Great food and amazing service
Plain ! Just looking for a change.
good taste!
Decent pork bone soup but inattentive service. Other dishes and side dishes are mediocre.
Busy place. Great service and food.
Food was delicious, service was great. 4 stars because I ordered the tofu and seafood soup and in terms of seafood I only got one shrimp and one mussel. Wish there was more seafood.
Very bad service!!!
dirty location and very bad service, never come again
Side dishes are lackluster...
Food was great. Soup are best
Lots to eat and it is delicious. There is chicken, beef and pork.
Kinda expensive
Best Gam Jah Tung in Richmond Hill! A hot bowl of soup in the winter is the best. The environment is comfortable and the staff are friendly. We love going here.
Traditional Korean restaurant. Food is always keeping the same level. Good service.
Generous servings and good food, but the Korean television in the restaurant was much too loud to have good conversation.
It was okay, service was a little slow, food was exactly how youd expect it
Worth the price ! I ordered the Gingseng chicken. It was served in a timely manner. Have left overs to enjoy.
Best Korean food I have ever had!!! No matter what you get it is delicious and I love their seafood stir-fry!
