27 N Belmont Ave, Richmond, VA 23221, United States
Compact restaurant featuring New American dishes & cocktails in homey, intimate surroundings.
Cozy, hip little place. Delivered a great experience. We ate at the bar and had a great time.
I dined in tonight for my daughter’s birthday. Each item was prepared thoughtfully, with a fusion of flavors and tantalizing presentation. There were some unexpected surprises at the beginning and end of the meal. All appetizers, entrees and desserts were impeccable. This is my second time dining at this new find and each time has been memorable. I will be back!
New to town...walked here after our 1st movie at the Byrd planning dinner as part of date night. Arrived 9:15pm...closed tight. Hours say 10pm. Went to some NY Deli next back by the theater. Hours say midnight...closed tight. Does anyone in Virginia know how to post actual hours. I'm writing this from home at 945pm...as we just moved to area and walked. I'll be sure to pass the word....never trust here. 1 star is too high.
Delicious food, helpful and friendly staff, and fair prices. It was a fixed price menu, $45 for app, entree, and dessert with good and reasonable portions. The food was so well prepared, delicious and refined without trying to be too fancy. The atmosphere is simple and cozy with lots of wood.
My dining partner, and I stopped in for an early dinner. We had a delightful experience. All of the food was well prepared with interesting twists. In particular, the duck prosciutto with a fennel salad and clementine geleé was a revelation. The two waitresses were excellent and kept the entire small restaurant moving nicely. We will absolutely return.
Came for dinner and got the prefix. It's a good deal for $45 but I wasn't a huge fan of my choices. I got the shaved duck salad to start and the rabbit entree (super tender just a lot of peas came with it and I'm not a huge fan of peas). The butterscotch custard for dessert was my favorite part. Tasted kind of like creme brulee custard which is my favorite dessert. My fiance got the steak entree which was delicious. Those fingerling potatoes were fantastic. He also really enjoyed his semifreddo dessert. The staff was really fun and friendly. Cute neighborhood spot.
Wonderful little gem with a French flair! Perfect for an intimate friend gathering or a date, though probably not a first date as the preset menu takes a couple of hours to go through! You select from an appetizer, main course, and dessert list! Cocktails are unique and so are the glasses that they come in! The cured tuna was a miss, but everything else was 5 stars! You would want to book a table!
Such an awesome place. I've been before when they had an octopus appetizer and it was the best thing ever. And I'm not a fan of octopus normally, so that was huge. This time around i got a seared duck and beef duo, husband got the blue cheese spread with salad and the scallops. It was all super delicious as expected, though the duck was a bit over done. The beef was so on point though! And the scallops were melt in your mouth delicious.
Been coming here for a decade. Best kept secret in the city. Fantastic service and food every time. Chef Mike and all the staff are amazing
They sick their customers onto people protesting the disgusting foie gras that they serve.
Dont give your money to unethical restaurants.
I usually don t hold others opinions against them, but I was extremely disappointed to see the owners/workers of this shop behaving aggressively towards foie gras protestors. One owner ripped a microphone from a protestor s hand, yelled in her face, touched her and acted disrespectfully. What made it worse was their triumphant, embarrassing dance in front of their shop, seemingly proud of defending such inhumane practices. If they had shown more respect and politeness, the situation could have ended differently. While I don t have an issue with people who eat foie gras, the owners behavior was truly disgraceful, and you d likely have a better experience elsewhere.
Protested foie gras and got body-checked by the crypt keepers running the place didn t know defending duck liver was an extreme sport for the elderly. Pretty sure their cooking methods date back to the Ice Age!
If I could I would give a negative star because I was severed rotten chicken. I let the server and manager know it was molded and was told it gives it flavor!! Never coming back again and honestly wouldn t recommend
Great drinks, consistently good food, perfect service EDIT: still one of the best restaurants in richmond. The recent one star reviews were obviously posted by protesters
I do not support the assault of innocent people. Shame on you, animal (and human) abusers.
Our server on Friday was extremely rude and snarky. We were with a large party, but we never had our waters refilled.
Great little place.
Pretty disgusting French food that requires unethical practices .
Quiet and quaint neighborhood restaurant with amazing food and service.
This chef and kitchen staff make the best dishes in Richmond. From the salad dressing to the sauces on the main dishes, every single food item was delicious! Best experience we have had in RVA in years. Small and cozy and lovely waitstaff.
Best restaurant in RVA, hands down. $45 for three courses of this quality is a steal. The vibe is immaculate. Word of caution - if youre insufferable and high maintenance you probably wont like it here. The staff are allowed to actually have a personality and arent your serfs for the duration of the meal. If youre cool theyll be cool, so be cool.
Great food experience! Waitresses were great, drinks were fantastic. Highly recommend.
Underrated restaurant. Like no other in Richmond.
One of the best meals Ive ever had. It was simply that good. We both had the salad wrapped in cucumber and the dressing was perfect. She had the beef and I had the pork. Perfectly prepared, perfectly presented and perfectly served.
The food here is some of the best, if not the best, I have had in Richmond. I am never disappointed. If you are looking for exquisite food. I highly recommend booking a table.
Great for small meetings and intimate dining.
Excellent!
One of the best nights out ever the food and drinks was top shelf.
Awesome small restaurant with a prohibition era vibe. Great food and cocktails. One of our favorites.
Aside from stopping in for drinks and dessert occasionally I had walked by this place a thousand times without trying it for dinner, partly bc it was a little pricey for me. But recently we had a wonderful prix fixe meal here with another couple. Delicious fresh takes on European dishes, a homey rustic atmosphere, creative cocktails, and attentive and intelligent service. We will add it to our special evening out rotation.
Hands down the best there is in RVA. I have never had better food or better value.
Food is outstanding as always. The service could use some work.
Great food and staff! Perfect in every way! I highly recommend! Fresh ingredients, relaxing mood and the best desserts! Try the SILK PIE!
Fantastic set of bartenders! Great food. Highly recommend.
We had dinner at Belmont Saturday night to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was absolutely fabulous!! We were greeted with champagne to kick off the celebration and the food for each course was so delicious!! Such a nice evening of great food, service and celebration!! We cant wait to go back!!
My husband and I came here for an anniversary dinner and had the best meal we have had since moving to Richmond. If we could give more than 5 stars we would. We love that you don t have a website and that the menu changes often. The food, each piece, was absolutely incredible. We are trying to come up with any excuse to make this at least a monthly treat it was that good!!!
Wonderful food, and great service! Went for an early dinner and had a really nice time.
Amazing dining experience!! I didnt have much expectations coming in for dinner, and was blown away with the service and menu offerings. A special place that I will come back to on special occasions!
Pricey
Consistently my favorite restaurant in Richmond. Its small and intimate and the food is excellent. Mike is an awesome chef who creates interesting, well balanced and well crafted dishes. I usually send gift certificates to my clients as an introduction to the area and food scene in Richmond. Try it out, you will be happy you did.
Wonderful experience. Love the menu setup.cant wait to return.
If you like snarky condescending waitresses and way over priced food with modest serving sizes this is your next favorite spot.
Had to wait a total of 3 hours for appetizers, entrée and dessert! I chose their signature dishes! Not anything to write home about!
Delicious food, well prepared. Nice ambiance. Not rushed.
Delicious food. Excellent service. Intimate spot that is lovely.
Fantastic food and a wonderful relaxing dinner.
Belmont Food Shop is an undiscovered gem in Richmond. The food is great, the drinks and service are great, but as a historian what I like most is the 1920s feel. All wood, chalk board menu, leather bound wine menu, and 20 people only. Cant beat the atmosphere. I wish they had a website to see the weekly menu, or a better way to book a table, but that also adds to the old school feel. Love this place.
Loved it!
Everything was absolutely incredible!!!!!
Great food, friendly staff and the bartender was on point. 10/10
My friend Jody treated me to a spectacular fru fru dinner tonight at Belmont Food Shop. I havent had a meal like this since I lived in Fairhope, AL. What a treat. I had an orange blossom drink before dinner, white wine with dinner then onto foie gras and pate for our 2 appetizers Pork Duo (pork belly & tenderloins) with leeks, potatoes and butternut squash ravioli were the 2 entrees. Finished off with spiced pear & cake with a yogurt mousse and silk chocolate pie for dessert. Now I need to fast for a week lol
My favorite restaurant in Richmond! Food is by far the best for its price. Perfect date night spot. Service is always great. Amazing whiskey selection.
I love this joint. Great intimate atmosphere and interesting , delicious cuisine. It is small so be aware of getting there pre prime ti.e or post primetime. If it is a special occasion then definitely make reservations. Nice wine and cocktail list as well.
The Duck and Silk Pie were good, but not quite as good as Id expect for the price. However, the Monkfish was bitter and mushy, and the citrus cake (made with grapefruit) followed the bitter entree with an even more bitter dessert.
Great meal
Love the intimate atmosphere. Food was phenomenal! We order the hanger steak and lamb shank. We sat at the bar and service was great! Definitely looking forward to coming back!
Great place. Don t miss.
The food is absolutely amazing! Ive never ordered something I didnt love. The menu is small but changes regularly and keeps me coming back regularly. Love the staff too! Its a very small restaurant so avoid large groups and be prepared for the room to get a little loud at peak hours. Again, the food has never disappointed.
Food was excellent. Salad was fresh and the dressing just right! My husband got lamb which he said was fabulous. I got roasted chicken... A-MA-ZING! Dessert was phenomenal. Homemade cola and ginger ale. This place is the real deal.
The food was amazing. The space is small, but provides an intimate feeling without feeling cramped. The staff was very attentive and the service was excellent. We loved everything that we had and the frequently changing menu has us interested to return.
Best restaurant in Richmond
Small bistro for intimate dining. Superb food and service. This is a terrific place if you are looking for a small chef prepared menu.
A modern (and underpriced) three course tasting menu is served by a friendly team alongside classic cocktails in an essential Richmond, Virginia, space with a feel more of a friends parlor.
Farm to table cuisine well executed in a neighborhood setting
Delicious food!
I made a reservation more than a week in advance to celebrate my wife s birthday at Belmont Food Shop. Upon arrival, the hostess sat three of us at a table designed to be a cozy (small) two top. They brought in a third chair to the table built for two which effectively blocked the already narrow aisle necessitating other patrons to squeeze by in order to move through the restaurant. I would guess that this is against fire code. There was a four top open directly beside our small table which they refused to seat us at stating that they were holding it for another party which was coming in later. Also, there is a second dining room which could have accommodated our needs but they would not entertain that thought. This situation left us feeling that they overbook and also that they are not concerned about the comfort of their patrons but are more concerned about what is easy for them. We didn t feel terribly appreciated as customers so we quickly decided to leave and went to another place at which we have always had great experiences. And although the evening was a success only due to the warmth and professional service that we received elsewhere, Belmont Food Shop definitely was left wanting in our minds. We will NEVER give them a second opportunity to ruin an evening.
Incredible start to finish. Best dining experience I ve ever had.
Great Cocktails, great food and a cozy atmosphere.
I do not recommend going to the Belmont Food Shop. My first unpleasant experience was inquiring about a restaurant-style high chair for my son. Restaurants are not required in the Commonwealth to keep them on hand, but the response when l inquired was apathy and a look of why did you ask? I volunteered that they supply a round-backed chair from the other table to which they complied. We had questions about menu items displayed from the chalkboard (there was no description) and the waitress had to retreat to the back to ask questions on both of the entree offerings. With the exception of when we ordered and when we received the check, the waitress approached us only twice during the duration of the meal to see if we needed anything. Lastly, the waitress approached us and asked us when we were leaving because there were guests waiting. Normally, restaurant staff tries to urge the party along, but having seen the waitress only two other times (other then ordering and the check) it came as a surprise to us. We were complaint and left, but l will not be recommending or visiting the Belmont Food Shop in the future.
Small place...big experience. Makes my top 10 in RVA
Small,24 seat, establishment. Very good food, not too pretentious. Not sure if they take reservations, we just showed up on recommendation of a friend
Booked our anniversary dinner for 7.15, Monday night. Arrived and table wasnt ready which is fair enough. We sat at the bar and had a drink assured it wouldnt be long. A half hour later the people at the proposed table were still deep in conversation but we were assured again it wouldnt be long. No effort was made to move the people on, after 40 mins we had to leave to go get something to eat. So dont trust your booking here, they clearly have no value in it or your custom. They should have told the people they had to give the table back at 7.15 but didnt bother.
Go, you will not be disappointed. Unique offerings, attention to detail, and attentive service.
Our favorite restaurant in Richmond. Since our first visit in 2016, we have returned regularly to Belmont Food Shop for date nights, dinner with friends and family, or just to grab a drink. The quality of the food and the service has always exceeded our expectations. We love the rotating menu, which sources fresh seasonal ingredients, the cocktail and wine selections, and the personalized ambiance. The adjoining event space is very intimate and elegant, also. We felt very fortunate to host our rehearsal dinner for our wedding there and were given great attention by the staff and chef. This is one of those neighborhood gems Im hesitant to share with others because its just that good -- but I would be remiss if I didnt give them my review!
Was disappointed as I have always enjoyed in the past.
Small space, great quality. Perfect for a cute date night!
Yummmmy
This was an excellent dinner prepared with quality ingredients and great care. The staff handled our table with remarkable attention to detail. One of the best meals that I have had in Richmond.
Amazing food and out of this world mixed drinks!
Great atmosphere, bartender Phil mixed the perfect dirty martini, while the spectacular waitress sarah was a charm, i ordered some fresh baked bread to go with the drink, litrle did I know Sarah personally cracked the Durham wheat a d baked the bread fresh for me. Perfect for the 1940s music playing..... I look forward to returning to experience the 3 course dining option....
Delicious!
I have been here several times, and Belmont Food Shop never disappoints. Small, intimate space with exceptionally friendly staff. The craft cocktails are amazing and only outperformed by the food. When someone says show me Richmond, I take them to Belmont Food Shop.
Awesome local butcher shop. Perfect for special occasions!
Small, intimate & perfect. Great food. Perfect portions that make eating your way through their 2 course prix fixe menu a delight, add dessert. Go for it! Bonus: competent great bar with a fun side, ask for a pisco sour its made perfectly.
Wonderful dinner!
Fantastic, great food and drinks.
Had an amazing meal and our server was excellent.
Such a hidden gem! My favorite place in Richmond. I always bring out of town guests here and is my top choice for a birthday dinner.
This is our 2nd time eating at the Belmont Food Shop as we pass through Richmond to the Outerbanks from Ohio. The foods are excellent with limited menu items at reasonable prices . The atmosphere is quaint, with about 6 tables ans 8 seats at the bar, so make your reservation. Sarah, our same server for the 2nd year, is very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. This is worth a stop for us. Strongly recommend if you want to try something memorable in Richmond, near the Museum district.
Great Food, Drinks, Atmosphere and Service!
A fantastic dinner served by a great server and a chef that knows his ingredients.
Outstanding food. Ensure that you make reservations before hand. Limited seating.
Amazing. great for special occasions meals.
Never EVER had a plate of fish as good as Mikes Skate with corn, crayfish and chilies. Pray its on the menu when you go.
Garbage, sat down and never got service. Both waiters at bar completely ignored us to wait on other people that sat down after us. Hope this place goes out of business
Top choice for a date night with the wife. MAKE reservations! Its a small restaurant that books fast. Food has never disappointed--its fantastic. Three course meals for two and 4 drinks (great cocktails) will run you $120, so its an occasional treat, but a delicious one. Not kid friendly--no high chairs.
Fantastic menu, unique cocktails and great service.
Had a nice, intimate dinner with some friends there. Our waters never went empty, the food was amazing. From the Appetizers through desert. Great atmosphere. After dinner we had a chance to talk with the owner who also was the chef. He is a really great guy. I would definitely recommend spending an evening there to enjoy the food and the company if others.
Small, classy.
This was one of the nicest meals Ive ever had. The kitchen was very accommodating for the vegetarian in the group and everything we ordered was absolutely spectacular. I wish I could afford to eat here every night.
Outstanding service! But seriously... who wouldnt want to provide outstanding service for awesome customers like US! Oh yeah... Alex ROCKS!
great place for something different!
great food and drinks
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Ive been 3 times and every time it has blown me away. The food is unbelievable, there is always something new and exciting, the cocktails are perfect, the staff is amazing, and I love the atmosphere. I wish I could eat here everyday
Its probably worth making a reservation rather than walk in the make sure youll get seated. I came here with a group of 5 and everyone left very happy!
This place is fantastic. The preparation of the food is amazing, some of the best tasting dishes I have ever had, and the proportion sizes of the 3 course meal is just enough to feel like you had a full meal without overdoing it. The perfect hole in the wall for an intimate date night.
Intimate setting with great food. Started with duck and blue fish. Then moved on to the chicken, walleye and duo pork entrées. Great presentation with simple but very flavorable food.
