Tarrant's Downtown is situated in the lively Arts District between VCU, the Convention Center, Linden Row, Graduate Hotel and Quirk Hotel. We've been serving "Good Food and Plenty of It" for 13 years now! We're located in a historic building that used to be a pharmacy- and we still serve up cocktails at the bar today! Call us for reservations, delivery or take-out.
My dinner companion and I met here for a quick bite to catch up on the fly. There was immediate seating for us and a large party right behind me. The waitstaff were very pleasant, professional, and knowledgeable about the menu and evening specials. I only ordered a small side salad, and my companion ordered the spinach and artichoke dip + a Caesar salad w/shrimp. The only thing we both didn't like was the overly thick Caesar dressing. We could not stomach to look at it b/c it looked so unappealing. The dip and salads were simple yet delicious fare, just enough for us to nibble and talk. Tarrant's is a great place w/delicious food and reasonable prices. Parking is a bit of a hassle since it's in the middle of downtown. However, ease of finding a space varies on the day and time you arrive to dine. All-in-all, Tarrant's will be a top choice for me to pop in and meet friends.
Jocelyn attended our party of 12 perfectly! Food was excellent. Alcoholic drinks were creative and tasty (they also have non-alcoholic "mocktails"). Prices were fantastic for a downtown restaurant! Highly recommended 👌
Didn’t have time to take a pic of my plate before, it was sooooo good. Ate every last drop. Oven salmon and the crabby soup with garlic bread. I will definitely come back again, and I don’t even live here in town. (Black people, everything was seasoned!! I didn’t need salt!! Hahahaha)
The non-spirit drinks are delicious! Pizza had a bit too much arugula and not even drizzle to counter the bitterness so only half got eaten, buffalo cauliflower was an interesting take, outside was perfect but then you end up with just plain steamed cauliflower on the inside. Philly sandwich was really great but the fries were a bit salty. By far the best thing was the quesadilla, super flavorful and was devoured in less than 5 minutes from it hitting the table.
Service was good but food was below average and overpriced. Spouse got the chicken picatta and said the green beans were overcooked, mashed potatoes were chunky, and chicken soggy from too much sauce. I got the shrimp and grits that had 5 shrimp around the grits and minimal bacon and sausage. The sauce was flavorless and basically melted butter with some heavy cream as shown in the picture. $55 for the 2 meals before tax and tip. Tried out the restaurant for the first time because we were gifted a gift card but won't be back due to the price and quality. Not sure if the dishes are always like this or this was an off night so we didn't send our meals back.
Conveniently located a few blocks from the Quirk, the staff at the hotel gave this perfect recommendation for lunch. There were so many interesting choices we had to return the next day for another lunch! The second time we brought along 8 family member to share our find. The portions were generous and flavorful. The service was friendly and atmosphere was an old converted pharmacy. Pretty cool!
The food and service are superb. The fried calamari and chicken are delicious. And the she crab soup is one of the best. I tried not to fill up on the garlic bread, but that was difficult. I would highly recommend it.
Mozzarella Sticks were amazing, like the server said, “the best mozzarella sticks in town.” We asked, what is so special about these mozzarella sticks? The server said this appetizer is hand breaded every morning, hence the fresh and crunchy goodness. The Chicken and Waffles were good. Also, the maple tahini sauce that came with it was very tasty. Wasn’t a fan of the tarragon chicken salad too much, which is actually a sandwich. The soup was okay, sides were fine. If there is something to complain about, there was a lady behind us who yelled something that actually hurt my ears, and I was very annoyed by this but I understand servers can’t do anything about it.
Overall, there s no reason for me to come back to Tarrant s. The food was okay based on reviews from our table of eight, nothing really notable, including the award winning bisque. The service was fine and the bar staff were skilled. What was most unappealing, and definitely unforgettable, was the rancid smell of urine near the window wall by Broad St. I don t know else to say about that Vegetarian options: Vegan options were just removed from the menu, so that sucked for some of our party.
We went today for our family Holiday brunch. Everything was awful. All of our food (5 entrees) was cold and tasteless. Our waiter rarely appeared - we had empty water glasses for 20+ minutes. Maybe it was just an off day for them, but we will not be back!
Restaurant accommodated us on thanksgiving without a reservation and the food was delicious. Very appreciative of their hospitality.
We got off to a rocky start here but finished strong. Our waitress was clearly overwhelmed and they kept being out of every bottle of wine we tried to order. After about 20 minutes of back and forth, and no drinks in sight, a new waiter took over and he was a rockstar. Literally saved the night. Really excellent server. Vegetarian options: I had a house salad to start and then I had the health bowl for my entree. Both were good.
I wish I could actually rate the place, but I couldn t get pass the non-existent customer service. First, I sat at the bar to get some things from happy hour menu, but when I sat down I might as well have been invisible. I was not greeted a hello or offered a menu. The bartenders weren t even super busy otherwise I would have understood. Then I ask the man at the host stand if there were booths available and he stated, that people were about to start filling in . He never asked if I wanted a booth or if I wanted to order food to go. Also, he didn t clarify if they were booked up or if it was just a rush about to happen. BTW, it was at least like 4-5 empty booths when I arrived. Once again it was not super busy. This was a horrible first impression and not sure if I would go back but it could have been the staff on this day and time(it was late 4pm on a Wednesday)
Very busy! Cool old building and atmosphere! Big menu! Food
You cant beat the happy hour deals, and Jason provided excellent service and made exceptional craft cocktails. Well be back!
We went for dinner tonight (thanksgiving night) they got my moms wine wrong, my sister found a baby roach on her drink glass, and then my other sister found a foreign object in her cheesecake and the chicken picatta was oversalted. Service was kinda slow but it was understandable for the night it was.
everything was good except my entree. i got the penne shrimp and it was only luke warm with 4 shrimp and barely any flavor. definitely nothing like it was when ted and frances owned it. we won t be coming back.
We put in an order at 5pm for 7pm pick up. At 7:30 pm we are still waiting for food. Terrible customer service!
Went for restaurant week and I wanted to like this place so badly. It took 45 min for a cocktail, 1.5 hours for an app, and another half hour for the dinner. We ended up just getting the desserts to go. Total time was over 2.5 hours. It was busy, but not a crazy level to justify the kitchen being backed up. With this we only had water filled once. Onto the actual food/drinks. We got the rosemary and autumn breeze to cocktails. Neither was good. The rosemary was overpoweringly sour and the autumn breeze tasted like straight gin. None of the food was balanced in flavor. The poutine was very very salty and the pumpkin hummus was just okay. For dinner we had the crispy chicken with Mac and cheese and the green tomato salmon pasta. The chicken tasted like too sweet pancake batter and the pasta was drastically undercooked. Once again, no balance anywhere. If it was just service or backed up I would understand, but the food just wasnt good at all. We saw quite a few unhappy people that were there, several complaints, and several that gave up on their dinner and closed out after a single drink.
Stopped into this very nice restaurant while I was in town to argue a case in court. We visited Halloween evening. Service was top-notch and the food was awesome. Would definitely return the next time I m in town for business.
Great food and service
Great place for brunch.
I got the NY Strip with potatoes and zucchini. It was nice but the food tasted like there was absolutely no seasoning put on it and I m pretty sure the potatoes were from a box
Food is amazing and Nadia is the best waitress we ve ever had!
Great setting. Food was not great. Scallops tasted like the freezer. Risotto was a glob of paste
Amazing cocktails, food, staff and atmosphere! Cant go wrong at Tarrants. We had the crab & artichoke dip which was superb. For the mail course we had the 3 cheese Ravioli and the jumbo shrimp...both were very tasty and decadent! Our waiter, Aiden, was very friendly, polite, amazing...just a great guy who knew the menu very well. WILL be back on our next visit to Richmond!
We had dinner here, and it was an absolute treat. The atmosphere was a perfect blend of cozy and stylish, while the food was nothing short of incredible. The noise level struck the right balance quiet enough for easy conversation, which only added to the evening s charm. The service was friendly and attentive.
Pleasant atmosphere. Servers were nice and accommodating. The food was ok. I had a crab cake sandwich which lacked flavor. My daughter had a chicken melt. She said it was good but the bread ended up being soggy. I would go back but only for drinks because I did like the atmosphere.
The best Grilled Reuben sandwich ever. I go ever payday just for that sandwich frites work and the protein salaowith grilled shrimp is amazing
Stopped for lunch on way to DC. I checked top 10 places to eat in Richmond and found Tarrants Cafe. It did not disappoint! It definitely fit the top 10 bill. We were lucky enough to have Blake as our server. I had read reviews mentioning him and was happy to have the celebrity helping us. My husband and sister tried the oyster burgers and said it was fantastic. My sister also got an incredible Bloody Mary. I tried the fried green tomato grilled cheese sandwich which was good, however they were our of the Texas toast. I had it on a rye which kind of overpowered the other flavors, but was still very good. All in all, great meal, wonderful drinks, awesome service, and we would definitely go back some day.
My daughter & granddaughter surprised me with an evening out. 1st stop Tarrants for dinner. Such a quaint place. We got booth in very back. Very cozy. Ordered Hummus appetizer & was pleasantly surprised. Tasty. Dinner was fish and chips. Fish batter very good. The fish was rockfish - I did not eat. Did not stick to batter when cooked. Evidently I do not care for rockfish & I do love most fish. The chips excellent. Waitress very friendly and kept refills going. A nice experience and I will revisit.
Food was good. Service was a little slow.
The rockfish and scallops are superb.
Great food. Great service One of my husbands favorites He loves their chicken and waffles Food : 5/5
Took extra 2 minutes for garlic bread, unacceptable
a couple of my friends and i popped in here after having a horrid experience at another restaurant. we were greeted by a very friendly server and ordered a couple apps, as well as desserts. food was pretty good, and desserts were delish! but what really made the night was just the friendliness and experience overall given by everyone. we originally came because we needed something to turn the night around and we got more than we expected. definitely will return to enjoy an actual dinner night!
Great dining experience!
Finally made it here. Love the space, missed the dinner crowd but was hoping to feel the peak dinner vibe. Server was great, food was very good with nice sized portions. Looking forward to coming back.
A lot better than I expected. Its a diner I would imagine going to in my retirement everyday. Lovely place truly.
Extensive food and drink menu. Great place for before or after the theater.
Pizza was ok .. had better
An absolutely fabulous meal. The crab cakes are the best I have ever had. Do not skip those as your appetizer! I love that they were served with fresh tomatoes, onions, and capers. The lobster sauce was amazing. It was a real treat. My husband absolutely loved the chicken and waffles with the maple tahini dressing. We will definitely stop again the next time we are in Richmond! Service was also excellent.
Wonderful experience
Difficult my omelette was cooked exactly how I wanted it with the ingredients I requested. The atmosphere was relaxing and so much classier than where we had planned to go. It was our server, Blake, who made the meal perfection.
I have eaten at Tarrants many times and have always been happy with the food and service. Last nights waiter, Josh, went above and beyond to take care of our party. Knowing that my friends were attending Virginia Reps production of Misery last night, he gave me a comp ticket for the show! He made a pleasant meal the start of a wonderful evening. Thank you, Josh!
Its a pretty cool place and the servers were incredible. They have a good food selection to order from, a bar to sit at if preferred, and reservations available.
Love this place for a good consistent lunch and place to have a meeting. Great food!
I visited the Richmond area and was taken to Tarrants Cafe by a friend for lunch. The atmosphere had a cool and mellow vibe. Our server was very sweet and attentive. I rarely eat everything on my plate. This time was an exception.
Great vibe, superb food, solid service.
INCREDIBLE!!!! Maybe the best meal I ve ever had. Blake was also so sweet & helpful! HIGHLY recommended!!!
My family dined in on a Friday evening at 7 PM. Although it was busy, we were seated rather quickly, but that is where our positive experience ended. We waited approximately 15 minutes before a server greeted us at our table. He seemed very overwhelmed. We ordered our dinner and were served water in plastic cups and told that the restaurant was out of glass. We were served our appetizer with 4 triangles of pita bread for a large serving of dip. We asked for more and were charged. We waited approximately 30 more minutes for our extremely disappointing mushy chicken elote dishes. They were practically inedible. The bar was out of most of the advertised drinks, but the Sunset Sip was good. We left hungry with much lighter wallets and a bad taste in our mouths.
We had a party of 10 and everyone loved their food. We had steaks, pasta, fish, lots of apps, and deserts. All of it was fantastic. We cant wait to come back!
Spent a few days in Richmond moving a daughter at VCU from one apartment to another and ate at Tarrants Cafe Downtown for three different meals - two dinners and a lunch. None of our meals disappointed! Great food and huge servings with friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended!
Peaceful classy.. Ask for the Kitchen Queen
My favorite place downtown me just me or a group of friends to visit anytime of the day!
Really good food! I especially enjoy their crab soup and salad options!
Fire food, drinks also fuego. Just come here and drink the bleu cheese dressing
Just had lunch and had the blanked mahi and a jalapeno infused Titos drink..Just delicious! Blake was a great waiter. Enjoyed talking to him and the manager! Cool vibe!
Great food.
Great drinks but we didnt get our garlic bread
Thus is a wonderful little place. Great friendly staff and very lovely place.
A Richmond tradition. Good quality. Consistency. Excellent service. My waitress today was literally flawless.
I had a wonderful time here.
Great food. The she crab soup is delicious. Along with the turkey sandwich. Enjoyed the food and the ambiance. Im definitely coming back.
shout out to Addison for being THE BEST waitress. Super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The drinks were awesome and so was the Cobb salad!!! I ll def be back
My friend & I split the fried green tomato app (adore the horseradish sauce!), the fig & pig pizza, and a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. It was a lovely meal!
I convinced the bartender to make something special - incredible!
I ve been here before, before Covid and enjoyed that visit, so when in the area recently with coworkers we stopped in again. The menu for lunch was really nice, but not what I recall from before (I remember fried chicken and pizza) The sandwiches we ordered were decent looking. My hot honey chicken sandwich was on the bland side. The she crab soup was excellent! The buffalo cauliflower was really good! Cole slaw was tasty too. Service was decent and so was the ice tea. Definitely love this place and what they re capable of, even though this visit wasn t as exciting to me as my first, I d definitely return.
Good service and good food. Pretty good selection too.
It took 45 minutes to get breakfast food for four people after ordering. Fried chicken was warm but not fresh from the kitchen, a steak ordered medium rare came out very well done, and crab cake eggs benedict came out with totally solid eggs and untoasted English muffins. A replacement steak and two eggs were brought out quickly, but for a constructed dish like eggs benedict, replacing one ingredient wasnt the same. Waiters were very attentive, quick, and friendly. I think they just didnt have enough kitchen staff to handle the amount of diners, and should either seat fewer people in the restaurant or have a more limited breakfast menu.
The food, the atmosphere, and the staff were amazing and consistent! Niko and Blake made my night. Blake was super hospitable and nice while getting our orders, very kind and very cheerful. Niko was our bartender and was very accommodating and helped us pick up our energy when I was feeling down through his fun conversation! Highly recommended!
Really enjoyed the food and service was great.
Excellent restaurant in old pharmacy location. Lots of character!
Very good food and fast service. A good place to sit for a bit while enjoying a drink. Definitely lots of chocolate chips in this cookie.
I liked this little place. The bartender was pleasant and the food was fresh and very appetizing. Go try it!
We weren t blown away by our lunch. It was okay and was a basic meal. The location was cool and the inside was unique. We had high hopes but it just didn t deliver on the quality and taste of the food. I m not sure we d go back to try again.
I am so sorry that I am late writing this. A month ago I had to go to Richmond for a doctors appointment. We decided that we were hungry and wanted to get lunch but we didnt want to do like any of the fast food joints. We looked up restaurants close to us and this one popped up. I cannot express just how good the food is here. Our waitress was super friendly and was really good at suggesting a decent meal for us as well as a drink to go along with the meal. I cannot recommend this place high enough. Just an absolute wonderful experience. In the food was just beyond great. I cannot wait for my next trip to Richmond.
Esther was our waiter and deserves an 11/10 for his service, personality, and optimism at the tail-end of a long Mother s Day. My meal started with a New Fashioned which was a fun twist on the Old Fashioned. Then, the She Crabby soup was awesome! Finally I ordered the Scallops, but ended up having to switch to the NY Strip, because someone ordered the last scallops moments before me. Unfortunately, we went late on a Sunday, and they were out of a lot of supplies so I had to make a switch. Although the compound butter on the NY Strip wasn t my favorite, I won t ding them for it because it was cooked perfectly and I wanted to try something new. I m hoping to come back and try some of the other items on the menu! Again, huge shoutout to Esther for taking care of us.
Absolutely gorgeous venue for any occasion! Especially dates!
While Tarrants uninspired menu is dated and its front of house somewhat disheveled (notably the floor manager), Tarrants crew worked seamlessly as a unit throughout our service. On a busy Saturday night we were greeted and seated, the floor manager brought serviceware, our server arrived promptly after for our beverage order and the manager returned in a few minutes with our wine. Before we knew it our food order was taken and soups & bread appeared. Another server bussed our finished delicious Crab Bisque (forgive the She Crabby Soup menu listing) and in no time yet another server ran our entrees. Very impressive. My generous by the glass New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was very good and paired perfectly with an excellent Chicken Picatta which was plated exactly(!) like the review photo courtesy of another reviewer ~9 months ago (whom I must thank for influencing my entree selection). I suspect some menu discretion is required, but I cannot help but give Tarrants 5 stars (minus half a star for unleveled tables and the remains of a previous diners salad under our table that greased my sole).
Crowded and a bit slow on food delivery. Friendly
This is our go to place for dinner. Casual, friendly and food for just about anyone s taste.
Great sandwiches!
Our server Blake gave us a top notch experience from start to finish. A perfect night!
Good food, cool looking interior, had to wait forever to be seated. Hostess was surprised to see us even though we made eye contact on her last pass.
We had brunch here with family before leaving town. The food offerings are excellent and the portions are plentiful.
Blake was amazing, and the food was absolutely delicious! Top-tier experience.
Fabulous place, food, and service.
Service was excellent but the food . Blah!
I dined here 4/17/2024 for my birthday I ate here with my 3 kids. The host was sweet and friendly and we were seated promptly (I made reservations) Dean our waiter was very pleasant very patient because I have wild 2 year old and 9 month old! He made great suggestions and was great overall. We ordered the mozzarella sticks for an appetizer, I had the salmon and the kids had a burger and the other had chicken tenders everything was delicious. I will be returning
The food was good. Hadnt been there in quite a while. Rather pricey but food is great. Waited for food for over 45 minutes. Was given slices of garlic bread to tie us over until food was placed on the table.
The food and service were incredible!
1st time going and was not disappointed!
Me and my wife wanted to experience Richmond dining and Tarrants Cafe Downtown has made met it an even Supersede it. The food was wondering and we could taste the flavors in each bite. Hats off to the chef. Your service was superb which made the atmospheres for my wife and I wanting to come back for more.
Great atmosphere and service! I ordered a goat cheese and Pear salad. Everything was fresh. The goat cheese was excellent, and the creamy basalmic dressing paired well with everything. My hubby got the ceaser salad and was pleased with it. We will definitely go again.
Calzone was awesome. Dean was very kind and attentive. Defiantly coming back.
Excellent food, ambience, and some of the best service in the city!! Thank you to our server Dean for being so attentive and kind!
Great place. Havent been in a while. Nice to know still good
Tarrants is one of those places that are a must visit when in Richmond, great and delicious food and overall environment
Tarrants is a little more drab than I remember, but the food is still pretty good! The turkey sandwich is tasty and the she crab soup is alright. It was a little too thick for my taste, but I know everyone is different. I feel like it has the vibe youd expect being so close to a college town.
Thoroughly enjoyed!! Thanks Nico!
Terrence Café is truly fortunate to have Nikko as part of their team. Not only is he an outstanding bartender ambassador, but he is also a remarkable steward of service and hospitality. My first experience at Terrence Café was unforgettable, largely thanks to Nikkos exceptional customer service and warm hospitality. He went above and beyond to ensure that I had a fantastic time. Needless to say, he is the reason I will be returning for a second visit. Nikko deserves all the praise and recognition for his outstanding contributions to Terrence Café. Highly recommended!
The service was great!! Niko made the most amazing cocktails and was so friendly.
Had to park 3-4 blocks away. Food was very good. I had the Crab Cake Benedict, Buffalo Cauliflower appetizer. Service was slow but the place was packed with diners when we were there.
Nico & Nathan are fantastic, extremely friendly, outgoing and attentive! We have company happy hours often and are always met with amazing service, food & friendly attitude! Highly recommended coming in for a happy hour or dinner, the shecrab soup is great!
Took over 2 hours for lunch on a Wednesday in March. High chair was about to fall apart
Addison was my server one word.. WOW! She was attentive, bubbly, and kind.. the best service I ve ever had. I ll be coming back just because she made the experience so enjoyable and her wine and entrée recommendations were perfect.
The waiter needs some training and ability to pay attention to all tables she is working with. The food was good, but not exceptional.
Delicious, great waitress, very loud
Wet fries and a weird serving of bread I didnt order. The bread looked like it came from another persons un eaten ed order. Lame.
I had the small pizza and salad. Loved the atmosphere. I wish I had time to go back again.
Food and service was great. Food was a little slow coming out but not bad at all. It just gave us more time to chat and catch up!
My family and I really enjoyed the service we received on Sun 2/11/24 for my husbands birthday! KiKi our server was remarkable and very attentive to our needs! We enjoyed our brunch and will return for dinner one day! Keep up the great work and also keep KiKi at your establishment! Shes a wonderful person and brings lots of life and pleasantry to Tarrants! Thank you! Vegetarian options: They have a few items if youre a vegetarian. You just have to ask your server for certain options! Overall, you can enjoy a great meal Vegan style!
We loved our Valentines Day experience here!! First of all our waitress, Ryan, was one of the most attentive and sweet wait staff we have ever had. Would give her a 10/10!! Also our food was amazing - the pasta tasted so fresh and my husband loved his Mahi! We will continue to come here for Valentine s Day and other special occasions!
Adorable place with such a delightful menu! I got the monte cristo- it was amazing. The raspberry sauce on the side is a must! The onion straws are so yummy and crispy!
I love stopping by Tarrants for a quick bite for lunch. The sandwiches are amazing and I love the house made chips. The menu is huge so there s something for anyone.
Ordered to go for a work retreat. I ordered ahead of time (night before) for pick up the next morning. We indicated a gluten free bun for the burger, as it indicated online this was an option, and yet the burger just came with no bun at all. The server had called to let us know they were out of pasta salad and asked what we would like instead. That would have been a good time to mention the lack of bun. Otherwise, food was fine.
Consistently good food and service. Kid-friendliness: High chairs available; overall, family friendly restaurant. Food : 5/5 |
Comfort food, with an excellent drink selection. I also really enjoyed the ambiance here!
Our server, KeKe, was the best! Great little table by the window to fit our group. We were so comfortable and had such a great time. The food was perfect! Cant wait to go again.
We (6 of us) were trying to find somewhere to eat on a Friday night at 7:30. I stumbled upon Tarrants on OpenTable and what a great decision. We had a fun table right beside the kitchen which was cool to see how the servers and chef were bringing food out hot and right after it was cooked instead of putting stuff under heats lamps. Our server, Addison, was just the best. She was so helpful with a wonderful spirit and great smile. The food was even better. I think we have a new family spot! Great place.
Loved it!
The portion is much bigger than I thought. The service was excellent, the food was so good. I order fish tacos and the fish is super fresh! The restaurant by itself is lovely and well-decorated.
Sunday brunch is fantastic, amazing service and great food!
Great Server named Blake! Awesome Service!
The birria quesadilla I ordered was huge and delicious, enough for two people.
Our first American restaurant experience and we couldnt have chosen better. Right from the moment we arrived at the company, they took good care of us. We had 2 drinks which were great. And the food was beyond delicious. The 18 pizza was really huge that we didnt even manage to eat it all on the spot, but we got the rest in a box. I highly recommend visiting this place. Thank you and greetings from the Czech Republic Christina
the food and the service was excellent.
Weve been here before. Dont know what has changed but this was a disappointing experience. May not go again. Pricey
A great anytime experience, good service, good food, atmosphere is nice. It s spacious enough for a larger party but not too loud for other guests.
food was pretty good, calamari was cooked a bit too long but still good, chicken melt was kind of dry. fries amd drinks were fine.
Beautiful restaurant, great service, great food (bulgogi special was delicious) & cocktails galore. Lack of parking was the only negative but youre in the city so not a big surprise. Will definitely go back when visiting Richmond.
Wonderful food. The complimentary bread was amazing and served with a fabulous olive oil. The blackberry mint mule and she crab soup were delicious. The blackened fish and salmon with the lemon basil cream sauce were great. (I loved the basil sauce, it was amazing.) Friendly staff and a fun atmosphere.
I dont think weve had a bad vosot to Tarrants. We went for our Anniversary, and our server Ryan did an incredible job making our night special, giving recommendations, and looking out for us. The she crab soup and baked scallops were DELICIOUS. We got strategic and found a spot where the loading zone turns into normal parking at 6; otherwise, leave a buffer to find parking (sometimes you have more luck north of Broad.)
Old restaurant on Broad Street just blocks away from most hotels.
A lovely spot for brunch. Historic building, good food, reasonable prices. Could easily accommodate our group of 10.
Christin was the best server i have ever had in my entire life she was so sweet. You could tell she knows the menu very well and is very good at her job. Vegetarian options: Very good
I just needed something easy and light and it delivered with the Health Bowl. And their blackberry mule cocktail was delicious
Tarrant s Cafe 1920s art deco apothecary atmosphere combined with its unique spread of fresh and flavorful fusion dishes makes this a must for foodies in Richmond. I ve been there twice and both times I had a good experience with the wait staff and enjoyed my drinks and meals.
Yummy pizza and garlic bread
Tarrants was an incredible find! Michelle our server was one of the most attentive, funny, and considerate servers Ive ever had in my entire life. The food was awesome. I had the breakfast pizza which was really delicious. And the surprise cinnamon bites were really delicious. Really glad we stumbled into this gem.
Amazing food and amazing service.
Very cute little restaurant in Richmond. We went with a large group on a weekend, and everything came out fast and fresh.
Ok drinks, and decent food (Americana/Mid Atlantic menu), good atmosphere and service!
Worked on electrical there
Great food and atmosphere. Brian was a attentive server. I got half the Tarrant Salad with black chicken. The balsamic dressing was delicious and the salad greens were fresh and crispy.
Our server was wonderful. Food was just okay.
My first time visiting this restaurant. The waitress was awesome. I enjoyed the food and atmosphere. I would return.
Amazing spot in RVA. The food was great and we got excellent service from Kei Kei.
Food, service and atmosphere were perfect here. A nice little pub with great wait staff, a good selection of cocktails and mocktails. We ordered the blueberry mint lemonade.. Killer mocktail. We order mozzarella sticks, they were huge! So delicious great value and flavor. We also tried their Buffalo wings, and they were divine. Pretty standard bufallo wing but cooked perfectly. I wish I could remember our waitresses name but she never left us wanting anything or hunting her down. Fantastic experience. We will definitely go back.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere! Our server was Blake and he was top tier, absolutely amazing!
The cheesy ground grits changed. So sad. The old recipe had lots of cheddar cheese and little pieces of broccoli. My wife and I went today and the cheesy ground grits had ZERO flavor. The gravy was like glue. Parking: street parking
Killer old school lots of history place in downtown Richmond. Service A+, food excellent, wines by the glass like C-, but hey, Im from California wine country. Im super happy I had a very nice dinner here.
Awesome food and service! I had the Seafood Combo, broiled in lobster sauce. Incredible.
Typical bar atmosphere, but KiKis energy and enthusiasm was amazing
Good food! Strong drinks!
Fun place with great service. They took out large party last minute and made it work with a smile. We had fun and enjoyed the evening with a large group of work people.
Im visiting from out of state and was looking for a dinner option that wasnt too over the top or expensive. I got a BLT with fries and an order of mozzarella sticks. Both were fresh and hot (even taking into account my walk back to the hotel). My test of a good BLT is always how thick and how well cooked the bacon is and it was excellent on both counts! The fries were quite salty which was a plus for me, but might not be for everyone. My only slight quibble would be that while the bread was clearly toasted as requested, it probably could have stayed in the toaster a bit longer.
Initially walked in for a late lunch with a couple of my coworkers and there wasnt an employee in sight. We waited a couple min and left to try and find something else close by. After quickly discovering that many of the restaurants didnt open until 5p, we decided to go back and give it a try. Our waitress was nice...and the she-crab soup was exactly as she described - yummy and heartwarming! However the rest of the food we ordered just did not land well. Coworkers ordered Blackened chicken Cesar salad and the other MahiMahi (without bun)...both underseasoned and not really impressive. I ordered the salmon with a side of brown rice and creamed spinach. I will say I enjoyed the salmon and the cream sauce was great! However the creamed spinach, admittedly, was probably the worst Ive ever had in my life. It looked and tasted like boiled, wet spinach with absolutely NO flavor. I dont even think Popeye (the Sailor Man) would even eat it...very off putting. However again once the staff was present, they were friendly and gave us a nice salutation. Happy hour specials are good, but only at the bar. Not my first choice of restaurants, however maybe Ill give it another try next time Im visiting in town...
Wheelchair accessibility: Very narrow aisles, no obvious wheelchair suited tables. No steps to enter Food
Our server was extremely slow and seemed out of it. She wouldn t wait at the table long enough for us to ask for what we needed. Had to ask for coffee 3x before she remembered to bring it out. Our food took over 45 minutes to come out. The food was fine, but nothing special. I don t understand all these 5 star reviews. A 3 star review is generous.
The food was excellent. I had the Buffalo chicken wrap. Great taste and fresh ingredients.
Wonderful food, great service and a wonderful old Richmond neighborhood
The food was fresh, flavorful and delicious. Addison was the server in our section and she was thoughtful, sweet and delightful person. Thank you Addison for being so customer oriented and pleasant. The restaurant was peaceful and the atmosphere was clean and inviting. I will definitely return and recommend this place to others.
Great spot. Waiter was off the chart
Where is the beef? Last night I ordered Shepherds Pie at $22, all I received was mash potatoes, gravy and peas. Very disappointing.
One of my fav spots - TY
The restaurant was a little difficult to find and parking even in mid week is difficult...however, the food ,the service, and the atmosphere inside was fantastic.
My mother and I came in for Thanksgiving dinner. We had a 3p.m. reservation under the name Lauren Goodall. Everything was fine .....until we witnessed one of the waiters taking a customers water into the restroom. My mother and I were sitting at the table in clear view of the restroom and watched two waiters have a side conversation they stepped in the restroom talking and one of the waiters had two glass waters one in each hand while bending down around the toilet talking to the other waitress. The restroom door was wide open and I happened to be in clear view of it and saw the entire thing. He then stood up still with the two glasses of water in each hand and then brought them to the table behind us for the customers to drink. My mother and I sat there with our mouths wide opened and couldnt believe that happened. That was absolutely disgusting and made us wonder what else goes on behind the scenes with peoples food and drinks that we didnt get to see. It just shaped a bad impression for us and because of that we will NOT be returning to Tarrants to eat. We also didnt leave a tip because of this and our waiter had a nerve to get upset. I couldnt remember his name but he is the short caucasian gentlemen with long brown curly hair.
Food is super reasonably priced for its quality. Truly fine-dining quality food (don t skip the fried oysters). The entire staff acted grateful that we were even there, all smiling and happy to serve. Our waiter even helped me pull a pleasant little dessert surprise on my girlfriend for her 30th birthday. I ordered his recommendation (blackened rockfish) and my girlfriend ordered his second rec, the salmon. Both incredible dishes. Quiet enough to have a deep dinner conversation but busy enough that it never feels empty.
I visited here a year or so ago and enjoyed it. Came yesterday for lunch, and it was horrible! I ordered a salad with herb chicken, and my chicken was cold, not its been sitting and waiting cold. More like it was cooked the day before and refrigerated. My friend ordered the meatloaf, which he said was ok, but the mashed potatoes were hot on the outside but cold in the middle. Clearly precooked and microwaved. Noone wants precooked food when spending their money eating out.
Its the best
Nathan show me so much love and respect as soon as I came in I love this place and I will be back tomorrow Vegetarian options: Food is wonderful Parking: I was welcome as soon as I walk
Greatttt food so good Parking: Might need to park around back during peak hours, its often packed. Food : 5/5 |
Visit with work colleagues, and the meatloaf was a big hit. The bread pudding was a big share desert!
Service was very nice. She was very kind and communicative. The food was absolutely horrible. I got the chicken pot pie and there couldn t have been more than 5 tiny cubes of chicken. literally less than an ounce. It was all sauce with no veggies. You would get more chicken and veggies in a frozen Grocery store version than what I partially consumed. My kids couldn t really eat their food- burger and pizza- as it was just bad. We ve come to this place several times over the last couple years. Food has never been amazing, but service and atmosphere are good for families. I can t over look the food this time. The experience may have encouraged us to make it our last.
Just ate here for the first time and WE WILL BE BACK. The food is delicious, large portions and it was 5 star delicious. Kiki is THE most amazing waitress so ask for her! She was bubbly and a great server. The people that came in and sat beside us were regulars and began talking about how great she was and that she was the reason they keep coming back! I can see why.
I went into Tarrants a few months ago for lunch. The waitress seated us quickly and took our order. About 30 minutes later my coworkers food came but not mine. I ordered crab dip. Another 20 minutes goes by the waitress says shell check (for the second time). Finally I say never mind I have to get back to my office and magically the dip appears. She brings me a box and charges me. I had to eat it at my desk and it was horrible. Fast forward to today. Me and the same coworker decided to give it another try. We were seated, given some water and placed our order. As we sat there the place filled up so we were glad we had gotten our order in. The waitress said she would bring us some bread. Never got it. We watched as every table around us got bread and eventually their lunch. After watching large parties get food and drinks, 55 minutes passed and no bread or food. We got up to leave and our waitress walked right passed us on her way to deliver bread to another table. She didnt even acknowledge the fact we were leaving. Fyi, I ordered fries and my coworker ordered a sandwich and salad. Maybe the other tables looked like better tippers (if you know what I mean)? At rate, one time could be a coincidence, two times is a pattern. Extremely disappointing!
Mozzarella sticks are the best I ever had, she crab soup = incredible, pizza great too. Blake was an amazing server- from his energy, humor, to the awesome recommendations. This place was an amazing find for this out of towner!
Our server was busy but mostly attentive. Our party thoroughly enjoyed our food. Easy to get to and beautiful atmosphere.
Service was absolutely amazing..The staff was excellent..They worked together and offered suggestions and super friendly.. Food was even better..Shrimp stuffed with crab was rich and creamy with tons of crab meat..Calamari was light and crispy with great dippy sauce..Cocktails were on point.. Definitely highly recommend Tarrants..
Atmosphere and service was wonderful. We had a great server and the vibe is very cozy and classy. Food, however, was a different story. 2/3 order of fries had clearly been cooked long before and were just heated up , tasting drastically different from the 3rd order which was actually fresh. The chicken wrap was under seasoned and bland, and the burger as well looked unappetizing. Sadly disappointed because we loved the vibe and service. Perhaps we will try again another time but for now, 2 stars.
Olivia and team are so Amazing!!! She has the best personality and her staff are so accommodating and the food perfectly cooked.. Blacken rockfish and SheCrab outstanding!!! Lastly the drinks
