201 N Belmont Ave, Richmond, VA 23221, United States
New American restaurant whose menu blends coastal southern cuisine, french technique and global flavors. Featuring inventive craft cocktails and a well curated wine list.
I went on a Friday night and sat at the bar. I recommend getting reservations just to be safe but you may get lucky with a bar seat on a busier night. There are plenty of really good vegetarian options but I’ve heard the meat options are outstanding as well. The staff was all so friendly and willing to make recommendations for drinks and plates. This is a perfect spot for a date night, to catch up with friends, or to grab a nice solo dinner and enjoy the chill vibes of the place.
My husband and I have been here a few times and every. single. time. it’s phenomenal!! The seasonal menus are always perfection and the ambience and service are fantastic. Emily is an extremely skillful server, timing things perfectly and orchestrating a seamless, lovely experience. I highly recommend!
A perfect evening, service was exceptional, drinks were great & fast, food was amazing. I am a steak snob{don't judge} and the cast-iron seared ribeye was tender exactly seasoned & done with the perfect crust sear.
Quaint RVA Museum District restaurant. Food is delicious and well balanced. Menu is seasonal and makes use of local produce. Great service. Creative cocktails. My halibut was cooked perfectly! Get the lamb lollipops!
Great place. Very welcoming. The food tasted so fresh and amazing. We came in later after visiting the VFAM. They let us put in our food order. We will be back.
Emily went over the top for us. It was our anniversary, and we were greeted better than we have ever been. They truly made our special day incredible. We would have loved the attention to detail even without the incredible scallops and fish. Truly fresh and tasty with incredible perfect pairings. One of the best places in Richmond!
The Stables at Belmont proves the axiom that there are many well-hidden locally-owned culinary gems in Richmond that you would be hard-pressed to eat at in a year. The Stables is one of the tiniest, hippest and best restaurants that you may not have heard of before. We were served in a small wine bottle-filled private room by our waiter Tim who brought out surprise after surprise of some of the best food I have ever eaten. The lamb lollipops ($16) over Frisée with tamari aioli were gorgeous, tender and delicious. Do not miss an opportunity to try these if you visit. My personal favorite were the Southern scallops ($13) with collard greens, rosemary polenta and bacon beurre, a fantastic southern-style presentation. The Creole Shrimp jambalaya ($13) with chimichurri and gremolata had everyone drooling. I also regret not ordering the Spanish mussels ($15) with mango, coconut, Calabrian chili, cilantro, saffron and grilled bread, but that’s a great reason to return. The Catch of the Day was Swordfish ($29) over spring risotto with asparagus, snap peas, grilled corn, roasted red pepper, lemon, ricotta and pea shoots. My entrée was a fabulous Cioppino ($29) with shrimp, mussels, scallops, fish and andouille in a rich seafood broth with grilled bread. We also had the lobster & crab Parisian-style gnocchi ($32) with asparagus, snap peas, lobster cream and pecorino, which was eaten down to the very last drop and, finally, the duck breast ($29) in a duck-fried scallion pancake with grilled Bok choy and asparagus, which was very tender and fragrant. Dessert was a couple of scrumptious chocolate panna cottas ($8) and the total was $328.30 for four people. Drinks: Daou Chardonnay 2019 $13 x 2 = $26 Black Beauty with plantation rum, Gosling’s black rum, lemon blackberry puree and brown sugar lavender syrup $12 x 2 = $24 D.O.M. Bendictine $12 Letras Minúsculas Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano Rioja 2018 $10 Bombay Sapphire martini $9.25 Grand Marnier $9 Esperto Punit Grigio 2017 $8 Getränk Grüner Veltliner 2019 $8
Very cute little place in the Museum district. Looked around for a place for a good anniversary date night and I hit a home run. Our waitress, Katherine, brought us two glasses of champagne since I told them in advance it was my anniversary. I was very pleasantly surprised. Started off with the beet salad. Very flavorful. My wife had the lamb lollipops. Tender, tasty with a nice char. I had their seafood pasta. They were very generous with the crab and lobster. The bartender was very creative. A man devoted to his craft. So many good selections on the menu. But, my wife just gave some flavor profiles and he made a wonderful custom drink. Finished the night off with their Mango bread pudding. They staff made us feel very special on our anniversary. Thanks for the wonderful food and service.
Apparently you have crazy people for your restaurant by the looks of tik Tok.
Group birthday dinner. Food and service was great.
Great dining..
The service is as good as and the food better than LOpossum (which is great). The food is so fresh, and expertly cooked. Its hard to find places that cook seafood to the optimal internal temperature but still gut a perfect crust on the outside. The Stables does. Side was a delicious panzanella. Excellent cocktails, especially the non-alcoholic ones. Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible.
Exceptional place, food, drinks, & service!!!
So good!! We sat at the bar, had great food and great conversation!
Went for a celebratory dinner for two. Got there around 5:30 and we were, seemingly, the first diners for the evening. The host/server was delightful and coursed our meal out after we ordered. We stuck with many of the small plates to share, which were varied and incredible. The two stand-outs for us were the ceviche with stone fruit giardiniera and the pork belly with blistered shishitos and creamy grits. Each starter was different but the meal felt rounded out and complete. The cocktails were delicious and overall the evening was wonderful. Highly recommend and will be back to try the mains.
Had an awesome experience at The Stables. Great service, food was on point. Highly recommend.
Lamb lollipops are an absolute, but so is the Harrisa glazed salmon! The mix of veggies that comes with the salmon AND whipped feta is a dish I wont soon forget. Best dinner I have had in a very long time!
We reserved the private room for a birthday celebration and were treated with the best hospitality and service! This place goes above and beyond to make you feel like you are being taken care of and they are very willing to make adjustments for dietary purposes. We absolutely loved the scallop and gnocchi dishes, the lamb lollipops are always amazing, and the drinks were fun and delicious! This is hands down my favorite restaurant to celebrate a special occasion in Richmond, you wont be disappointed!
Exceptional cocktails and food. The space is incredible, and the service was excellent. Will definitely be keeping this on the list as a date night spot.
An absolutely charming restaurant. The menus, both drink and food, had an intriguing variety of choices that made decision making challenging and fun. It all looked wonderful. Once decisions were made, there were no regrets. The drinks were wonderful and the appetizers and entrees were tasty, complete with the extra touch of magnificent presentation. The service was superb as well. Back soon!
Food was awful. Overpriced. Oysters had no brine and were tiny for their shells. Mind you... it was $20 for a half dozen. We ordered the rabbit gnocchi. It was disgustingly overcooked, salty and goopy. On top of all of that, we ordered a $84 syrah and server messed up and gave us a $120 syrah. Service was very slow and we had a later reservation than regular dinner time. This was an awful experience, especially for people wanting to have a special night here. Absolute disappointment which is not reflected in what seems like fake reviews.
The food and service were incredible. We were able to find parking behind the restaurant but we had an early dinner reservation. We will definitely come back again.
Wow. Amazing food and even better service. This was our first time there but definitely won t be the last! The rabbit gnocchi is AMAZING!
What a classy joint. Not the kind of classy where you re seated around a bunch of uptight phonies but the kind of restaurant that really takes care of its customers. Bravo Emily too!
I cant say enough about the food, service, and atmosphere of the Sables Restaurant. We loved everything about this place, and the food was on point. We had a great time celebrating my wifes birthday.
Great food and great service !
We had a wonderful experience at the stables of Belmont. Everything was excellent. Two of us got the duck, and the other two got the scallops and rockfish. Everything we spot on, and the service was exceptional.
My significant other and I came here for a late Valentines celebration and had the most amazing time. The food was incredible and the staff, specifically Marissa and Zach, was top notch. We will be back very soon and we highly recommend The Stables to others.
My partner and I came here to celebrate my birthday in November, and we loved it so much that we just came back to celebrate hers! The ambience is warm and inviting, and it s probably a great spot for a first or second date, since it s a small place and doesn t get too loud. It s decorated very nicely with interesting prints on the wall, and you can tell that it used to be an actual stable! We loved that their drink menu doesn t exclusively have alcohol and that they have a mocktail section on the menu - the antheia is delicious and we ve gotten it both times (the cardamom flavor is lovely). The short rib appetizer is life changing and fork cut-able, no need for a knife. Yesterday, their kitchen was running slightly behind, so our server brought us something on the house to tide us over - an appetizer we had previously asked her about but didn t order (because, short ribs). It was the roasted sweet potato salad and it was delicious. I thought that was really thoughtful! The entrees (mid Atlantic catch with risotto + the pork chops with red cabbage) were tasty and filling. Previously, we got the acorn stuffed squash with sausage + the duck, which were also incredible. I don t think it s possible to go wrong here! One of my favorite RVA restaurants for sure.
Best restaurant in Richmond! No lie.
Enjoyed a spectacular and delicious dinner with my wife as we celebrated an early birthday meal. Our hostess, Cathryn was fantastic and made the night very special when she brought out a dessert with a single candle for me. The Stables at Belmont is one to put on your list to experience.
Honestly I havent had a better time at a restaurant in a long time.
Great food. Great mocktails and cocktails. Looking forward to returning. Portion sizes are also perfect. Try the lamb lollipops!
Great dishes
We got to try the oysters from the new menu, theyre delicious.
Steak was tough. Service so so not very attentive. Portions are small for the price, particularly the duck.
Great service, great food. The rib eye slaps. Cant wait to go back and get it again
So good!!! Oh so good. Oh so so so so good!!!! Go there, eat there, go there again.
We cant get enough of this place. The lamb chops are my favorite. The rockfish is my other go-to, fried crispy and oh so good ( I didnt realize rockfish was so good until we found this place). My hubby enjoys the pork chops and most recently the steak. The menu changes, so we have enjoyed that each visit has been a different experience. Also, I cant forget, the lemon drop martini, thats made to perfection. The atmosphere is romantic.
Incredible food, perfect atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff. This was the best dining experience Ive had in awhile. The food was so good that we stopped talking to each other for several minutes while we savored the experience.
Really great food and cocktails. Only negative thing I could say is it can get pricey. You should expect that going in though so still 5/5 stars never felt like it wasnt worth it.
Great cuisine, superb friendly staff, in a nice intimate restaurant.
Came for anniversary. Always on point. Waiter also surprised us with dessert for our anniversary. Great conversation. Steak medium well to perfection. Love Stables.
This is the best dinner experience I have had in Richmond this year. The atmosphere, staff, and food were amazing. The range of flavors in each course was impressive. Make a reservation soon. This place is a step above the rest.
Truly a diamond in the rough! Great appetizers and wonderful main dishes by a seasoned kitchen staff.
I ve been here two times, my boyfriend took me to this place for our first date. The food was delicious, drinks on point, atmosphere and service great. Of course we had a great time haha and we came back for our first year anniversary, didn t disappoint us! The menu was different but I must say food was more delicious! I fully recommend it!
Had the lamb lollipops, scallops and flank steak - everything was incredible-Will definitely go again soon! Service was excellent too.
Hospitality at its finest. Non-assuming, this neighborhood gem is a warm and welcoming environment the moment you open the wooden door. We arrived close to closing time. Even though their evening was nearing closing time, the staff were happy to seat us with no pressure and the cooks took their time to cook our dinners with a sense of ownership. I am so thankful we started our time in Richmond with a visit to the Stables.
First time visit with my spouse. Service, drinks and food were excellent without being too stuffy. Looking forward to coming back!
Favorite restaurant in town! Best lamb lollipops ever! Great wine selection! Atmosphere is cozy and inviting and you can watch the kitchen from the bar! Staff is knowledgeable, friendly and easy to spend time with! Definitely recommend for any occasion!
Absolutely the best dining experience I have had in Richmond. Excellent service and delicious food.
Let me start off by saying GET THE SOUP! It was heavenly! Followed by the Ribeye, the epitome of seasoned to perfection! The flavors of this meal made me do a happy dance in my seat. The wait staff were phenomenal, down to earth and attentive. They were spot on with the food and beverage suggestions. This is such a hidden gem of Richmond. I can t wait to go back.
Food was great. Duck breath was absolutely delicious. My husband had flounder, it was great too. Service was good. But tables are tiny, squeezed tightly. Cheap furniture. Pictures on walls are very eclectic. All that does not match with upscale restaurant status.
Truly one of the best spots in Richmond! Flounder with butternut squash risotto, lamb lollipops, and pumpkin pie creme brulee..just to name few dishes! The dim lighting is cozy; we loved the decor and the service. Cant wait to try each seasons menu!
Great food and WONDERFUL service. Catherine was the best and didnt steer us wrong. Dont miss The Stables!
You might expect a 50-100 dollars dinner. But i cannot deny that the foods are so good. I had the lamb and the scallops, as well as cheesecake(which impressed me the most). The place is quite and the environment inside is also cozy.
Comfortable, happy food was phenomenal!!! Best restaurant experience hubby approved too!
Museum district gem! Everything was cooked to perfection, beautiful plating. Nice cocktails and wine selection. Loved the ambiance and will definitely be back l.
Food was fantastic, and the service was even better. You will not be disappointed
What a wonderful dining experience. Each dish was excellently prepared. The lamb lollipops were melt in your mouth tender. The charcuterie board was enormous with wide ranging selections. Im a huge fan of pickled sunchokes now. The pork shank fell right off the bone. The grains, veggies and sauce were a perfect accompaniment. Everything was delicious.
Absolutely wonderful food and service. If you are a foodie, you have to give The Stables at Belmont a try. I don t get out of the West End too frequently, but it s well worth the trip for a phenomenal meal. I ll gladly skip the chain restaurants for another delightful experience at The Stables.
A nice quaint atmosphere perfect for a date - food was outstanding as was the service. Must try the lamb lollipops
Excellent experience from beginning to end. Incredibly tasty food. Cozy, intimate vibes. Creative cocktails.
Wow! Love this place!
Honestly I dont remember what I ate but its not earth shattering. Yes, its an unique restaurant in a historical district and somewhat unique venue but food was average. People seem to associate nonchain restaurant automatically with great food. I am not so sure. Food is not bad, but not worth the wait or price. Neither are the drinks. I must be out of touch
The food here is incredible every time that I come, the bartenders are talented and the atmosphere is on point. Always a wonderful place to come to.
Popped in for a quick drink. The drinks and food at the bar were great. Service was fantastic. Seeing the open kitchen and the food being prepared had my mouth watering. Will be heading back to have a meal and to review again. Im excited to head back there.
Food and service was great. The place is a bit small but they definitely make it up with the atmosphere.
Probably the best steak I ve ever had. Sit at the bar and you get to watch them cook! Really fun atmosphere.
Absolutely exceptional experience. Can t wait to go back.
Best food in Richmond, which is saying something. Great RVA vibe.
Great food and atmosphere! Wonderful staff!
This is your perfect date night out place. The chef is one of a kind. Creative and sources locally. Changes the menu enough to keep it interesting, but not so much that you lose some favorites too fast. Splurge! Treat yourself!
Awesome food great atmosphere and even better company!
Galen was the perfect bartender, great recommendations on drinks and food. The food was absolutely incredible. From the art on the wall to the impeccable service I will absolutely be back whenever I visit Richmond. We were treated like royalty the whole time we were here. Definitely worth a visit if you want fresh from farm to table plates.
The food was very good except for the fish (catch of the day). The chef does not know how to cook the fish. Fish was extremely over cooked! The restaurant experience was great with excellent service! It please don t get the fish!
Cocktails, food, and service were absolutely amazing. Very accommodating about dietary restrictions, service was quick, mussels with chorizo and the duck breast was delicious, and the cocktails were refreshing and fabulous. Recommend!
Five star all the way! Food and service for birthday event was nothing short of exceptional. 8 Parking: Parking is limited with customer spots in rear. Arrive early.
There is still good food in there, but the service is in free fall. First the new bartender said she had been there three weeks-she had to touch her hair or face a couple times, not wash her hands, then put her fingers in the drinks she made. (Drinks that require you to use herbs, and even to put ice cubes in drinks with her fingers) Yuck we switched to wine. Second-disorganized service- A-we called three weeks ago to make a reservation and ask for a booth, they had no record of the reservation, so we had to sit at the bar. B-Couldnt time courses. My lamb app came, then 5 or ten minutes later my wifes charcuterie came. At dessert mine came, and we sat waiting, and i finally had to ask if they could bring my wifes dessert. c-Couldnt deliver food hot-Our entrees were walked over to us by one of the chefs, (yay they both came at the same time!) both were pretty close to room temp by the time we got them. Now if youve ever been, youd realize that the bar is right on top of the kitchen, so how is it possible to not get two apps and two desserts to move less than ten feet at the same time? How can you sit so close to the kitchen you can hear things sizzle and get cold food? Zero stars for the service, gave the stars to the kitchen. We tipped hoping that the bar staff tipped the kitchen so that some of our money went to them. Apparently, the place changed hands, maybe the new owner can get his feet under him. I suppose if I wanted cold food only and drinks that didnt need to be mixed, I might go back. (Kidding, never going back). If you remember how good this place used to be keep them memories intact. Update-10/26/22 When we made our reservation we spoke to an employee over the phone. Implying that we didnt follow the process to book a reservation is an example of the attitude that has lowered standards here.
We have been twice now and both times were out of this world. We just moved to Richmond and The Stables will be our go-to place to bring all out of town guests.
Great food. Cozy atmosphere. My only negative is the bathrooms are super tiny and not handicap/ADA friendly.
Wonderful little place with spectacular food and drinks.
I ve been here five times this year since I discovered it. I always have baked oysters my son starts with the lollipop lamb chops: delicious, succulent and perfectly cooked. The Cioppino is awesome The ribeye was perfectly cooked and enough for two but the last word goes to the duck breast. The barmaid asked how we wanted it and I said pink . She patiently explained that they cook it perfectly red , ok. It was the best I ever tasted. I always sit at the bar so that I can pepper the chefs with questions. They are so polite and gracious in answering my questions
Amazing hidden gem in Richmond. This was an immediate hit, food was delicious, wine was great and ambiance was lovely. You will definitely need reservations ahead of time to find a seat but its worth it. Had their Ribeye steak which was cooked to a perfect medium-rare and my partner had their Acorn Squash, some of the best meals weve had in a while. Definitely recommend for a date night. Will be coming back for sure! Vegetarian options: Acorn Squash
Very nice date night, amazing cocktails and excellent food.
Great restaurant!
Tasty food & drinks, cozy atmosphere, top-notch service. Give this place a try if you haven t, you won t regret it.
Just ordered New Years dinner, they knocked it out of the park!!!! Go here! The duck to the crab cakes were amazing, we got 5 items off the menu everything was five stars
Ask for Alyssa Milano
Had the pork chop and it was delicious! Great cocktails and service too!
This is my go to spot for a cozy romantic dinner. It never disappoints!
Great meal with Great Service! The photos speak for themselves. The Lamb is delicious! Will be going back very soon!
Our second visit and definitely becoming one of my favorite restaurants in RVA. Food is amazing and the service exceptional. Looking forward to our next visit! Highly recommend!
My husband and I ordered the 3-course Valentine s Day takeout dinner, and it was phenomenal from start to finish. It was so nice to be able to enjoy dinner from one of our favorite restaurants in the comfort of our home! Thanks for a wonderful meal!
While walking down Belmont you could almost mistake The Stables as a hole in the wall dine-in, but as soon as you sit down the waitstaff are ready to make the dining experience a memorable one, embracing their homely atmosphere and hospitality. The lamb lollipops were well seared and fantastically seasoned, the duck breast was a delight with a crispy outer skin and the brussel sprouts with the sweet potato puree was amazing. Their creole pappradelle was a delightfully tasty dish and left my tongue dancing even after the meal had ended. The cioppino was a dish meant for an appetite and even though the baguette was a little scorched at the very end not a scrap was left. We enjoyed a a varied selection of their cocktails and specials and finished the evening with a Smores Italian meringue chocolate panacotta. Yum! Would easily recommend to anyone who is looking for a personal dinner setting for a special occasion or for a night of fine dining in downtown Richmond.
The Stables is one of my favorite restaurants in Richmond. I love the seasonal menus and V&GF options. The Chef is amazing and the servers are fantastic! I take all of my out-of-town guests to The Stables to show off my city!
This place has been considered a hidden gem for Richmond, I say no more! This is a gem through and through! If you haven t tried it, you should just to understand why I consider this place a staple of Richmond. Excellent food, service, drinks. What else is there??
The best
Swift service. Yummy drinks. Scallops and mussels were fantastic. Reasonable portions. Not cheap, but not outrageous. Highly recommend. Do not come with big groups. Its Richmond.
Food and service were amazing! Our waiter Tim made excellent suggestions when requested and we can t wait to return. Spanish mussels app was perfect to share and the lobster crab gnocchi was superb!
Outstanding! The mussels were best we have had. Perfect balance of aromatocs, heat and a touch of sweetness. Crab and lobster gnocchi was the winner of the night.
The food is delicious. Tonight we had the smoked pork shoulder with biscuits. Would highly recommend.
I had the app lamb lollipops; my daughter had the lamb lollipops entree - great choice...so delicious. The entree came with more lamb than the app, the rice, and beet sauce. It was all epic and delicious! We also got the lobster and crab gnocchi - THIS is the fish to get. A wonderful blend of flavors with a foundation of lobster...so good! Service was spot on.
I went with my wife and we sat at the bar which was the first time since COVID restrictions were relaxed. We had excellent cocktails and wonderful service. We will definitely be returning soon.
It was probably the best restaurant Ive ever had the pleasure of dining... The ambiance is not everything that you would expect but the food is superior!!!!! Its my kind of place I felt cozy inviting and enchanting
My wife and I went to the Stables for our 5-year anniversary tonight. The restaurant is small and intimate. The staff was very friendly and caring. The food was fantastic. We started our meal with the scallop small plate and the lamb lollipop small plate. The scallops were seared nicely over a polenta cake and collards. The scallops were tender with a slight crunch of the crust from the sear. The lamb lollipops are amazing. The char added a nice flavor. The lamb was cooked perfectly. Tender and juicy inside with the char outside. The lamb was not gamey either. For entrees we ordered the duck and the cioppino. If youve ever ordered duck at more than one place you know there is great duck and horrible duck and there aint much in between. The duck at the Stables is great. The breast was cooked to medium rare perfectly. The glaze was a great compliment to add some sweet and tart flavors to the duck. The scallion pancake with the duck was a great compliment. It was crispy and somewhat caramelized. Last my wifes cioppino was great as well. The broth base was light so that the flavors of the seafood were still evident. The seafood was cooked perfectly such that it was still tender and juicy. Its easy to dry out fish in a stew. This was not dry at all and very good. I highly recommend the Stables. We will be back when we visit Richmond again.
Absolutely fabulous food, excellent well informed and helpful wait staff. We sampled Spanish muscles, and polenta for starters. The muscles are the best Ive ever had, the marinade would have been a delicious soup all on its own. The polenta was perfect. We sampled the trumpet mushroom, the duck breast, and the swordfish which was the fish of the day. All were excellently prepared. One of the two people who ate the trumpet mushrooms thought that they were a bit tougher than she expected. But other than that, everybody was thrilled.
Fantastic small restaurant! Great cocktails! Had Old Fashioned and several other craft cocktails from menu. Duck breast for dinner. Was excellent. Smoked pork shoulder was also great. Highly recommend.
Upscale local Richmond restaurant. The duck breast was incredible, and the crab and lobster gnocchi and roasted pork shoulder were delicious as well. The pork could have lost a little salt and been perfect, and I really enjoyed the grilled pineapple in the dish. The cocktails were fantastic- we tried all of the bourbon drinks (Belmontier, HipHip CynCyn, A Place Between the Pines) and the Black Beauty. Service was impeccable and the ambiance and decor was stylish. The food was pricey but affordable for a nice night out. Its a smaller restaurant with private rooms for parties over 4, so I recommend a reservation. I didnt feel the open tables were loud, but older relatives may have a slight problem following the conversation if they have hearing loss.
Knowledgeable waitstaff, creative cocktails and excellent food. The duck breast is not to be missed!
Everything was amazing! The cocktails, the food, and the service!! Top notch!! Quite possibly the best upscale meal I ve had in years!!
Very tasty food. We enjoyed the lamb lollipops app and cauliflower buffalo wings.
Great cocktail options. Top notch servers and staff!
Excellent dining experience! Great staff...very knowledgeable. Id definitely go back.
Waiter was very attentive and the food was excellent.
The lamb lollipops were incredible, coupled with wine and dessert made for a wonderful evening out!
Overall good food, nice restaurant, nice staff. I wouldnt say what we ordered was worth the price, but cant complain since it is a bit of a dressier place to eat. The duck and muscles was the best of the items we ordered.
Probably the best restaurant we ve ever been to. Every bite of food was phenomenal and the cocktails and bartender are truly talented. Pro tip: sit at the bar and enjoy the show.
Absolute gem. Time and again. The Stables rivals any restaurant for best in town right now. A-Z spot-on. Charming place on Belmont / Museum District. We sat at the bar across from the open kitchen. Chef s table. Scallops, Lollipop lamb, and mussels. All small plates. Bordeaux wine. Outstanding. Enjoy and cheers.
We went for dinner for our anniversary and had an amazing time! The food was excellent as well as the service. Would definitely recommend and go again.
First and foremost, this place will surprise you once youre inside, because it does feel like a high end experience. The server was energetic, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I wish I knew their name to give them a shout out, but they had short brown hair and wore a long sleeve button up. The crowd is a mix between people in suits and casual attire. The atmosphere doesnt feel too snooty though. The food was phenomenal. My table had the lamp lollypops, the shrimp and grits small plate cajun style, cajun corn fritters, pork shoulder, and the duck breast. Everything had so much flavor and the presentation of each dish was impressive. The cocktail menu is unique and robust and I would recommend the place between the pines. 10/10 recommend but you need a reservation because it is a smaller venue. Cant wait to go back. The prices match the quality so be prepared to spend a pretty penny.
My favorite restaurant in Richmond. Bartender is an amazing mixologist with lots of handcrafted mixers and delicious balanced cocktails. Food is incredible. Lamb lollipops are one of the best dishes Ive had in Richmond.
Went to Oktoberfest and while walking back to our car, stopped to check out the menu posted on the window. Decided to go inside and see if there was availability. Our lucky night- got a seat at the bar right in front of the chef and his team- what s treat!! Food was delicious; we had Catch of the Day with collard greens and a vegetable risotto. As well as fun chatter with the team! Such a pleasant experience and a culinary delight! Definitely will be a favorite spot to dine!
Food was okay. Waitress was amazing!! ONLY reason they got 3 stars. Plus the wine was good. Not that great but the real kicker was when I left out the OPEN back door to the parking lot, an employee said, Next time dont go through the back door... To which I responded, Dont leave the door open then. Service was GOOD, but meh.
Very unique and exciting drinks. Lamb chops a must. Staff friendly and smart
We went here for a much needed date night, we walked into a quaint little alley like restaurant full of modern farmhouse character. We were seated right away by an enthusiastic man and then brought water quickly. We started with a hand crafted cocktail and the lamb popsicles with whipped feta, carrots and pistachios. It was literally amazing perfectly cooked and juicy. The enters we re even better and we wound up not feeling like we overpaid. I would definitely go back as soon as possible.
Love The Stables, my wife and I make a reservation here every time we visit and each time we come away incredibly impressed.
Great place with excellent service, good creative food, outstanding cocktails. The mussels will always be my favorite. Wonderful friendly staff.
Nice drinks, good food and service! Parking in the back.
Everything was perfect. Setting, atmosphere, service, cocktails and the food - perfect!
Excellent food. They were very courteous. We were fortunate to walk in on a Saturday night without a reservation. They still found a place for us. (I would recommend making a reservation.) When we found a mistake in the bill, the waitress not only corrected it but took a dollar of the price of the item. Nice atmosphere; my wife and I could hear one another in conversation. A bit expensive but worth it.
Excellent food, fantastic cocktails, and wonderfully friendly service!
One of the best dinners Ive had in my life. Everyones focus is on the customer and service is spectacular. Food, cocktails and wine were perfect. Go there and be happy.
The food was dry and overpriced. When we came for dinner they were out of several main items (mushrooms for example). Being vegetarian, I asked for a substitute for the portabello mushrooms and they gave my vegan crabcakes- and then upcharged substantially for the meal (which ultimately came to 30+ dollars with no animal protein). Not a great experience
I took myself here on a happy hour date and had one of the best dishes of my life: pork belly cassoulet, served in a hot cast iron dish. The pork belly was grilled to perfection and served on top of a fantastic, rich, and meaty white bean stew. And both the dish and the cocktail were each $2 off for happy hour 4-7pm. The space itself is super cute and romantic. Recommended!
My experience at The Stables was incredible. The food is creative without being so pretentious that you have to Google the ingredients at the table and the cocktails are so original and delicious. I went for a special occasion and our server made us feel special from start to finish. I could not recommend this restaurant any more for a special occasion celebration.
Amazing restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere, great cocktails, and tasty food!
A simple highlight of this restaurant is the wonderful customer service. I took my parents here for an anniversary brunch- they were so happy to receive us and even gave us complimentary adult beverages!
SO incredibly good!! It s rare to go to a new restaurant and adore every single dish, drink, and dessert you get. The stables was front to back perfection and exactly what my wife and I were looking for on our trip to Richmond. And to top it all off our waitress felt like a long lost friend. Highly recommend this place!
Amazing! Lamb lollipops are to die for.
First time at The Stables. Had valentines dinner here with my husband. Service was great. We ordered a bottle of red wine, a scallop appetizer served with collard greens and polenta, Lamb Lollipops and Pork Belly Entree and for dessert we had the chocolate mousse with raspberry and a short bread cookie. Everything was amazing from the moment we walked into the door. Great restaurant for a special occasion. I can t wait to come here again!!
Went here for Valentines Day recently and it was a very nice experience. It has a cozy, dimly lit interior, perfect for a date night. We had the shrimp & grits, pork belly and lamb lollipops for appetizers. Shrimp & grits some of the best Ive had. Everything was seasoned well. The pork belly was ok. It was served over white beans. It was very tender but not very flavorful. I read The Stables was known for their lamb and I can see why. Lamb lollipops were excellent! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. For dinner, we had the monkish and duck breast. Monkfish was interesting. Ive never had it before, but it had a crab like consistency to it. Also had a peppery flavor. I enjoyed the duck breast. Well seasoned and the potatoes that accompanied it were good. I went with the waitressess recommendation of medium rare, but I think medium would have been better in this case. The center parts were the meat was less cooked was a little harder to chew on some pieces. Service was good, although, there was a bit of a wait between when we got our appetizers and it main dishes. Overall, I would recommend. On a side note, go to the bathroom before you get there. The bathrooms are small closets you can barely fit in with just a toilet. There is one sink in the hallway.
My friend and I sat at the bar for dinner. I started with the vegan crabcakes and the red terra to drink, which were both solid choices. My friend got the pork belly cassoulet. For the main course, I got the lamb deux fois which was delicious. My friend said the cioppino was really good as well. The bartender was really nice, had some great skills and was able to create new drinks on the fly.
Phenomenal dinner and very interesting cocktails. Worth a visit anytime you have a chance.
Stables is one of the best restaurants in Richmond. The chef and bartender are best in class, and weve never experienced anything but exemplary food, drinks, and service.
Food was amazing...changes everyday ....so go
Our waiter was very attentive. I enjoyed the decent selection of N/A beverages (the cocktail menu for drinkers looked good too). The cheese plate was well curated, and both lamb dishes were fantastic. I was a little sad that the venison dish wasnt available, but it was still a great experience.
The seasonal rotating menu it is swiftly become our favorite place.there is something about a restaurant that has a limited supply of the things they made for the day. This means that the food you receive is fresh and intentionally crafted for your consumption. whenever we have gone weve been delighted by the variety and deliciousness of the menu offerings, which also have a sense of uniqueness in creativity. You arent just getting the same old thing! add to this an excellent bar list and a divinely inspired cocktail menu and you have the makings for a truly superb place to spend your time at the table.
The vibe here is awesome. Great people who are passionate about their craft. Great wine list
One of the best dishes I ve had. Hands down. Service was phenomenal as well. Get the duck if it s available.
A great little place. The pork chops are highly recommended and the fish was excellent. I had trouble deciding because while the menu was not huge, there were multiple apps and entrees that I wanted to try, along with numerous gluten free options. Definitely will go back.
Great food, small portions, decent value
Excellent service with a smaller menu, but everything we tried was top notch.
Fantastic food. I doubt youll find better anywhere in Richmond.
My husband and I have never had a meal here we didn t like! The items are seasonal so I have gone in longing for a meal I had months before and instead trying something equally spectacular. Most recently I had the salmon with blood orange risotto. It might be one of the best meals I ve ever tasted. The citrusy risotto was such an interesting compliment to the salmon and there were English peas and pine nuts sprinkled throughout giving it an amazing texture. I don t usually eat everything on the plate but dang if I didn t almost explode shoveling in the last bite. So Good! The service is also excellent. They re always very friendly and attentive with answers to any questions and good recommendations.
We had a party of 4 sat in the high top front window. Ordered 4 different starters from peach salad , pate , tuna , cauliflower wings? All were excellent and shared by group. Entrees were terrific wife had lobster and crab gnocchi, I had salmon, cioppino and duck for our companions. Service was outstanding, wonderful evening overall. Thank you to the Chef and staff.
Good $ood a,d attentive service.
Cocktails and appetizers were outstanding. Bar is a little small and youll need to be mindful of the staff running food behind you from the kitchen. Enjoyed being close to the grill and watching them cook!
Great food & outstanding service.
Evan at the stables is the man... One of the best dinners ever. We were a table of 12 and the service, cocktails, and food was perfection. We literally ordered a little of everything and shared. From the charcuterie to the desserts it was outstanding. The lamb chops are delicious, the mussels ina a curry broth are to die for. The staff was super pleasant - we will be back!
Anytime you roll into a restaurant with 12 people, it s a little intimidating for the staff. Not here... Evan and the rest of the employees were on point and we never waited more than a few minutes for anything that came out of the kitchen and bar. The porterhouse was perfectly cooked as well as the lamb chops. The shoshito peppers were the surprise winner for me. So simple, yet delicate and packed with flavor. If you re in Richmond and they have a table available- don t make the mistake of going somewhere else. Thanks for a great dinner, Chef!
The porterhouse was amazing. Nuff said.
Great selection of dishes. The steak was perfectly cooked. Great place to host small office events.
An absolutely wonderful dinner! We strung together several apps (including a fabulous tartare and a great peach salad...oh, and the duck liver pate was wonderful). THEN we shared an entree of the best duck breast I have ever been served. Craft cocktails were wonderful, and the service was super friendly and prompt! Executive Chef Evan is both an artist and a machine in the kitchen...he even called me early in the morning to advise me of a street event that would impact parking.
Excellent service and food! The staff and chef showed a lot of attention to personal dietary needs and the food was super delicious and nice looking. Prices are on the high end but experience was well worth the money. Were definitely planning to come back.
Exceptional food delivered to the table by wait-staff that were enthusiastic about it. And this busy place was happy to work us in for a quick bite before the rush.
One of my favorite places in Richmond! The lamb is what I come back for each time, it s the best I ve found nearby. Love the ambiance and the great service as well!
Zero complaints. The buffalo cauliflower was fantastic. Tender and full of flavor. The boneless ribeye was 16 ozs over pureed cauliflower and I would have swore they were mashed potatoes. The halibut was delicious. Waitress was top notch. Highly recommend.
Great food and staff!
Food & cocktails are amazing. Staff is lovely.
Proper cocktails and the charcuterie board was excellent
Deliciousness!!
Amazing service and food! Highly recommend for any type of occasion!
One of the best meals Ive ever had in Richmond! From the cocktail at the bar, and the knowledge of the bartender and bar staff. To our waitress and the other wait staff who carefully helped us make choices. You have to get the ribeye, it is probably one of the best steaks Ive ever enjoyed! Bravo
