Stella's in Richmond

One of RVAs best. Not much else needs to be said.

Reservations needed but worth the wait! We were a party of 4 - we orders oysters on the half shell, feta phyllo, #5 pasta, kotopoulo, pastichio, pikelia, & Galaktoboureko. It was all great - the feta phyllo was tangy, crisy, a little sweet app. The pasta dish would have served 4 - it was huge. The baked chicken was good but the lemon roasted potatoes that was served with was the star on the plate. The pastichio was a perfectly sized dish and was melt in your mouth amazing. Pikelia for folks that cant decide and want to try a bunch of different items. Rounding out with desert - it was good but hard to eat. Phyllo when moist doesnt cut easy. Would recommend the version with the shredded phyllo instead. Flavor was good but a lot of work to eat. The restaurant is typical Fan area size - businesses tucked in residential neighborhoods. Its a busy place but the service is great as well as the food. Even though the place was packed it was not noisy to the point of not being able to have a conversation. The wait staff do an amazing job!!! Service and food make this place a must try. Vegetarian options: There are many meat free options on the menu Parking: No parking lot, on street only. May have to walk a couple blocks depending on the of your visit.

Delicious! The drinks and food were so good they made us wish we were locals in order to come back. We did order the melted cheese appetizer, but I think I d try something different next time. We sat outside and it was a very cute area. After dinner we walked across the street to the grocery store.

Above average cocktails and small plates. Coming from an Albanian family, I wasnt thoroughly impressed, not my nenas food. The smelts were a bit pale and not as crispy as I would have liked. I grew up eating those as a snack, so the nostalgia was there. The borek or whatever it was called, was good with the bechamel. 3.5 stars would be more accurate.

Always go to Stellas during Richmond Restaurant Week. It is a haul from Short Pump, but its well worth it!

This is a small neighborhood restaurant with excellent food and service. We started by sitting outside at a table for two. Later we moved inside to a community table to have coffee and dessert. We had seared scallops as an appetizer and they were perfect. I had the pan seared salmon and my date had the oysters Rockefeller. Both were excellent. This is a great hidden jewel.

Absolutely delicious every time. My favorite is the Lamb Frites. Can split as an appetizer for the table easily. I don t understand the table bread (would like something with more crunch/texture, but other than that Stella s is one of the best places you can go in Richmond (or Charleston SC)

We hosted our rehearsal dinner at Stellas in the Our Life space next to their main restaurant, and it was an excellent space for that event! With around 40 guests, the space was intimate and beautifully set up, creating a warm atmosphere for our gathering. Kameron was a pleasure to work with, helping us coordinate both the schedule and menu seamlessly. The entire team, from servers to bartenders, was incredibly professional, and we loved having the freedom to set up our own playlist and bring in decorations ahead of time. And of course, the food was outstanding our guests couldn t stop raving about it. We re so glad we chose Stellas for this special occasion and highly recommend it for anyone planning a similar event.

wait staff doesnt take allergies seriously. when informing the waiter of a dairy allergy, he chuckled and said it should be good without cheese. i let him know again that it s a severe allergy. he proceeded to wait until after the rest of the party received their food (around 30 minutes) to inform me that my choice wasn t able to be dairy free as they use butter to braise the lamb. trying to find something to eat on our lunch break, i asked if it could be cooked with olive oil, he said no and gave me no options, only placing a menu down only adding a star because the manager (kim i think?) was nice and accommodating Dietary restrictions: call ahead to make sure they will truly accommodate your allergies!

Great atmosphere. Food/service excellent.

I enjoyed my whole branzino. My husband was disappointed with his roasted leg of lamb. The dark chocolate pie was also disappointing, it was sweet but didnt taste good. The cherry on the top was the best part. The appetizer we had was also average, it was 3 different types of dips and pita bread. The Stella bread was delicious. The cocktail I had was ok.

The service was fantastic. The waitress adjusted our wobbly table and wiped away condensation on the table from our water glasses. She was very conscientious and was skilled at her work. The food was absolutely delicious and demonstrated a maturity and understanding of depth of flavor from the chef(s).

My first visit but not my last. Great atmosphere inside and patio seating also available. Our server was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. You have to start with the Saganaki, yes it comes flaming. The Fried Kalamari (Im spelling it like they do) is enough to share and delicious. The Filet is the perfect size and perfect flavor. Nice and tender and juicy. Also the Grilled Whole Fish was more than expected. Depending on your appetite it could be enough to share, but it is a great choice. Everything was wonderful and I will return.

This place will give our family nightmares for years. Our daughter has a severe allergy to sesame that requires an epipen if ingested. Prior to dining our daughter called ahead to check they could deal with her allergy and was assured that she would be safe. We notified our waiter also of the allergy and he advised her to avoid the Pita, humus and the filo pastry but that was about it. All was fine until deserts. Rather than providing a desert menu the waiter simply reeled these off. My daughter and wife chose the salted caramel Gelato. After a few mouthfuls my daughter started having an allergic reaction and wanted to leave. I checked with the waiter what was in the topping and was horrified to hear that it was a caramel with Black Sesame! How incompetent. I paid quickly and left to inform my daughter who was already administering her epipen outside and said she needed to get to a hospital quickly. Once there she was in full blown anaphylaxis and the medical staff saw her immediately and pumped her with life saving meds and gave her oxygen for several hours. We will forever be grateful for the quick care she received. We are still in shock at how this happened. Stellas and the Wait staff have a duty of care to ensure they take customer allergies seriously and this could have been much worse if our daughter did not have her epipen on hand with a hospital close by. Anyone with allergies should avoid this Restaurant!!!! The meal cost me $180.00...a night in the hospital for my daughter and probably and expensive medical bill to follow due to complete incompetence and lack of training. Its just not good enough. A dessert menu should have been provided and all ingredients listed. If I could give zero stars I would. Dietary restrictions: Useless...incompetent staff with inadequate training on food allergies. AVOID..AVOID...AVOID.

It was a bit loud , but thats most likely due to the bar area. The place is very small so youre practically sitting under someone at the bar. The salad was very good , but the pasta and red meat suace was not that good, needed salt or cheese to balance out the cinnamon. The dolma grape leaves where 15$ for 4 and they where barely filled with this paste inside that I guess Im just not used too. Im used to middle Eastern dolma that has rice and many ingredients that you get at a masiss kabob or season alley or just about any middle east place. Other than that the service was great. Kid-friendliness: I dont know what youll feed the kids they dont have much of a list on menu even for adults

Stellas is one of very few places that serves the Artichoke version of Moussaka. so when I finally got to go to Richmond, I didnt hesitate. its a nice restaurant clean , bright, and greek music is playing. I was welcomed at the door ,and although I didnt have a reservation , I was able to eat at the bar. the service was good. they start you out with a plate of delicious olive oil and a couple of slices of bread. the Artichoke moussaka was a little bland, and regrettably, there was a cold spot in it. not big, just a little over a forkful, and not just room temperature , but 60degrees cold. Ill assume it was reheated and not fresh of the day. I started just around noon. I looked around at what others were eating and it all looked pretty good. I wanted to take some tiropita with me for later so I asked for it to go and I wanted to try the Baklava. I asked it it was traditional, and was told its a house made baklava with chocolate and caramel.. Im part greek so Im partial to my greek cuisine. dont mess with baklava! they did have some good baklava in the store. Later that evening dug into my tiropita. Bah. if there was any feta in it , it was too subtle to notice. it tasted like cream cheese(maybe ricotta) and had the same creamy consistency, no herbs, no chunks of feta,. a little disappointed, but I ate them anyway.

Thank you for showing my friend from Argentina what family in Richmond is all about with the most extravagant amazing yummy food that only Yia Yia can make!! of course we had to do it old-school at the community table. Thank you to our wonderful server who was witty, funny super helpful with menu suggestions, fast courteous, and super super hip. Bone in lamp shank. 500% melt in your mouth. Lamb frites: I do not have words. Just big smile and bigger belly. So delicious!!

This local hole in the wall restaurant does not disappoint. It offers in door and out door seating, the server my group had was an awesome guy. He had no problem telling us what the specials of the day were, giving us recommendations, and periodically checking on our table. The atmosphere was very laid back and relaxing, and as a bonus, the restaurant has a lot of history. The original owner, Stella, was a pretty big deal in her community. If you ever visit Stellas, definitely ask your server or even a regular there about the history and origin of Stella. Vegetarian options: They also have Vegan options as well. Parking: Since this restaurant is on the edge of a residential neighborhood, street parking is very limited and sometimes unavailable. .

I actually stopped into Stellas market. Not the restaurant. As always, they had everything I had hoped for. Our favorite coconut cake, and I got some chicken and spiraled zucchini & chicken and penne . All delicious

Probably my favorite restaurant ever. Highly recommend eating here at some point in your lifetime. All the food is delicious and some portions are as big as my head and I eat on it for days. I love the artichoke moussaka and the spaghetti with marinara and feta. Grape leaves are also a must have. You cant go wrong tho. And the ambience is always what youre looking for.

The staff was friendly, the food was very good and authentic. The Greek salad was large and delicious, the lamb was perfectly prepared and the appetizers were delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you want good, authentic Greek food. I ate outside so it was a little hot.

First of all, the restaurant was packed on a Monday afternoon at 2. This is always a good sign. We shared several small plates during our lunch at Stella s. The grilled Octopus, which had a wonderful grilled flavor and texture. The shaved lamb with lemon potatoes baked with feta cheese and onions, which was flavorful and satisfying. And the Zucchini fritters with a tzatziki dip on the side, which was delicious and filling. Afterwards we had the caramel gelato and Ekmek (custard with shredded fried philo. Both were a perfect ending to a great lunch. The waitress was very helpful in describing the dishes and the service was excellent. We will return!! Parking: You can park on the street or in a small parking lot. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes, street level entrance with plenty of room between tables.

A wonderful Greek bar and restaurant!

We ve been coming to Stella s for a number of years and have always enjoyed the food, service, and ambience - not just of the restaurant, but of the entire block. It is a cozy spot and we have tried tables for dinner but ultimately enjoy sitting at the bar. They tried and true menu is delicious - if there was one thing I would request to be changed it would be to offer a mix of appetizers without the pork souvlaki. We will be back!

We loved the service and the delectable morsels that never ended with the nuance of Greece. Stellas serves top quality ingredients with ample portions that makes you think Yia Yia is in the back conducting the symphony of cooks to produce such on point fare.

Fantastic food. Everything was cooked and grilled to perfection. I highly recommend the oven cooked chicken and potatoes, simple and delicious.

Visited for lunch with my son and daughter-in-law. A pleasant and enjoyable meal. Ordering and serving were all friendly. The amount of food was incredible. In the end, none of the four people emptied their plates cleanly. The taste wasnt bad either I didnt take a picture, but the hummus was delicious.

Great night celebrating a surprise engagement. Too late to make reservations but still able to get a great table outside. Travis our server was awesome and really made the night extra special. The food and cocktails were absolutely delicious and the service was perfect.

Great service! Bartender recommended a great bottle of wine. Food was awesome!

Food and drinks were so good and so filling. The restaurant brings out bread and oil to start which was delicious. The Santorini cocktail was delicious. Lots of great vegan food options! Vegetarian options: I got the yia yias skillet as an appetizer. I ended up getting a lot to go because it was so filling. For dinner I got the lentil soup and roasted beets. All was vegan and so good.

Visited for the first time on recommendation of a friend! Definitely worth the visit the food was really good and our server darren was really sweet! Knew the whole menu off by heart she was really helpful I will say however, When I called in to make a reservation the man who answered the phone was probably the ruddest person Ive spoken to in my life. I truly contemplated not coming just because of him, which would have been a true shame because this place was great Maybe just have someone else answer the phone lol

I am not Greek, but I believe this was an authentic Greek gastronomic experience. What I loved the most about it was the story of the business, photos, and history of the idea.

Good food and atmosphere.

This place missed the mark. For all the local hype, eating here was like that disappointment you get in middle school when that cute girl you ve been eyeing denied your dance request at the weekend bar mitzvah. The food wasn t bad, don t get me wrong, but that s the problem for all the hype, THE FOOD IS JUST AVERAGE. the flavors made the chefs appear like they are cooking for the local retirement community that can t differentiate spicy vs. umami, it s like they tried to make their food just flavorful enough so you can taste what you are missing out on, but bland enough to make you not want to go back. The service felt fake, as if you should be honored to be eating there, it was loud, very very loud. Too dark. The ambiance and atmosphere missed the mark as well, did not get the bullseye on those categories, definitely not. Overall, an OVERHYPED EXPENSIVE RESTAURANT. I thought the other close by Greek restaurant called Athens was much, much better, more authentic experience.

my mom loves Stella s so I end up there quite a bit including for her birthday. It s a little pricey, but I ve been there as someone who eats meat and I ve also been there as someone who doesn t eat meat since Ive only been a vegetarian for a year and both meals were incredible. I definitely recommend I think it s worth the money the atmospheres amazing.

We had catering from Stella s and their salmon is the best in town! For the first time ever, Stella s made a small error in our order and went over the top to make it right, by delivering to our house and adding a yummy extra by way of apology. I wish they made mistakes more often! Thank you, Stella s!

My friend and I started with the octopus appetizer which was the perfect texture and had soul satisfying taste. Then I had dove into a whole branzino cooked to perfection which was served with a sauce so good, I was wishing to have it as a soup on the side! hehe. My friend had the rockfish special and cleaned his plate back to its shiny and luminous state. Thank you, Stellas! Ill be back for round two soon. :)

We had dined here from out of town pre-COVID and really liked it. Sadly, we did not feel like the food was the same quality as before. Food was just not very good this time. Either not quality, not fresh, or not cooked right. I have eaten Greek tiropita (cheese pies) everywhere, and I regret to say these are the worst ones I have ever had. The phyllo was hard and burned. No flavor. Very odd. The Greek salad was ordered by two in our party, and they brought it out in one humongous bowl - that looked like a serving bowl. We asked for it to be split on two plates so they could manage it, but they refused to do that. We find that that request is almost always met today wherever you dine. The desserts did not taste fresh. In the positive side, the front desk and wait staff were mostly friendly and professional - which the exception of the salad splitting issue. Maybe we just hit an off night, bcs the place was packed. So clearly Richmonders seem to like Stella s.

As a big big fan of Greek food, I was really excited when I stumbled across all of the amazing reviews for Stella s. I rushed to make a reservation for lunch the same day - and could not see any availability. Luckily, I decided to try my luck by getting there as soon as they opened And fortunately there was an option for seating at the bar. From the amazing cocktails to the fantastically fresh ingredients and generous portion sizes - everything about lunch at Stella s was delectable and mouthwatering. I would highly recommended the Fried Kalamari and Pan Seared Salmon!! The special of the day was the whole Branzino with Spanakorizo and that also blew my tastebuds away. The general vibe at the restaurant was very homily. It was clear that it s a great spot to go to with family, friends and also an intimate date. The team were all super friendly and experienced. Looking forward to visiting again to sample items off of the dinner menu .

If you re in Richmond and like Mediterranean food, go here! I had an amazing lunch with friends. I had the full Branzino, with wonderful service, great trip with humus, eggplant, and pita.

I was in Richmond for work this week and stopped by Stella s upon recommendation. I can see why it s a locals favorite! Everything from the braised lamb (meal I ordered) to the atmosphere, and customer service was wonderful. I highly recommend it!

All the dishes we tried were excellent and generously portioned! Shared the charred octopus, the special lamb lollipops, and the pastichiatho 22. Delicious! Finished with the dessert, ekmeth, rich yet refreshing and cool. Will definitely be back to try new dishes!

Just ate here. Phenomenal staff, generous portions, incredible food. The Stella s kalamari, the pistacha-forget-the-name house special pasta, the mousaka were all absolutely phenomenal

The appetizers were a hit, and my main dish was deliciously authentic. However, my friends meal didnt quite hit the mark. Despite this, the place has a nice vibe, and the service was fantastic. Worth a visit, but some dishes might be hit or miss.

Id give this place 10 stars if I could. Hard place to get a reservation but if you sneak in around 5:30 youll always get a seat at the bar or community table. Food and service are fantastic!!!

After many years of hearing only raving positives about Stellas, I finally went and experienced all Id heard for myself for a birthday lunch celebration. The atmosphere is elegant and pristine while still feeling casual and comfortable. Our server, Gabe, was exceptional: attentive and present, patient, intentional, humorous, and very well-versed in his recommendations for us. Every drink and dish we tried was exquisite in ways my laymans palette cant even identify. The main courses were especially large portions; they would have been well worth the price even at a smaller scale. We give our highest praise and gratitude for a memorable experience!

The braised lamb shank changed my view on food entirely, whatever I eat now is bland and boring compared to that lamb.

Worth the wait! A friend snagged a reservation and invited me along and I m so glad I had the opportunity to try various items on the menu. For appetizers we had the meatballs (phenomenal), the shrimp (delicious), the flaming cheese (excellent), and the phyllo with cheese (tasty). For mains I had the lamb shank which fell off the bone and my friends had the chicken and crab cakes to which all raved about. We were too full for dessert as the portions are ridiculous..probably could have shared three apps and 2 mains instead of 4 and 4. Can t wait to go back and take my husband.

Long wait on Wednesday night. Its a very popular restaurant, reservation is highly recommended. Braised lamb shank is delicious. Filet mignon is light on the flavor but the crabmeat is a nice touch. Pasta has too much cheese. The ingredients are very fresh and the pine nuts are perfectly toasted. The waiter broke a glass and spilled water on my phone, leaving a couple pieces of shattered glasses on the table. Thats a very unfortunate experience.

First time there. Sat at community table as place was very busy. Enjoyed meeting another couple that have been coming there for many years. I ordered the traditional moussaka and it was outstanding. Ordered a Greek salad to go to have later with dinner, and it was large and delicious. Will return!

Stella s does Greek and Mediterranean better than others because the Chef and owners are not afraid to go heavy on the flavors. Their food reminds me of my own and other family members home cooking along w/ many proper flavors of recipes as found on the Greek mainland. When I m too lazy to cook for a special event at home we go to Stella s because I m confident in their ability to do food I m familiar with, as good and hopefully better than I can do it myself and that is the best compliment I can offer a restaurant I really enjoy. Great job guys, please keep up the stupendous work and consistency

Absolutely loved our experience at Stellas Restaurant in Richmond, Virginia! My wife and I had a fantastic dinner sitting outside next to the vintage cars, which added so much to the charming aesthetic and ambiance. Since moving to Richmond, it has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants. The combination of delicious food and the unique atmosphere made for a truly memorable evening. Cant wait to return!

What a gem this place is, uncovered by a local friend! The food is absolutely delicious, authentic, perfectly done Greek fare, great atmosphere, good drinks, and fantastic service. The server, John was attentive, funny, present but not overbearing. Though we stuck to meze and salad, we ordered way too much food and ended up with a take-way bag at the end. Also, right across the street they have a wine bar and a small supermarket selling all sorts of yummy specialties. The beauty of it is that you can consume everything at the outdoor tables they have in front of the place...loved it, will most likely come back. Update: have been back four more times since May. It just gets better! Most authentic Greek food this side of the pond, to rave about! Atmosphere and service just add so much love to this place, its a really amazing experience all around. Kona served me sitting solo at the large communal table in the middle of the restaurant and he was brilliant. The Halibut special was to die for. Portions are generous and everything is prepared to perfection. I also went to their grocery store across the street and bought a bunch of other goodies to go!

Everything about this restaurant was excellent. The food, the service, the atmosphere, absolutely everything was fantastic. Our waiter, Jon, was so respectful and kind. He took time to explain some of the dishes to my wife and I and went above and beyond to ensure we had an exceptional dining experience. Do yourself a service and come dine at Stellas!!

Stellas is fantastic! The food is always so good. Service is excellent. Try one of their inhouse made drinks. I ordered the daily special which was halibut. Tatziki sauce on the bottom with grilled brussel sprouts, cauliflower, fingerling potatoes and asparagus. Wow! The halibut was cooked perfectly. The sauce on top was delicious. The vegetables underneath were amazing. The flavor profile of the complete dish was just out of this world. Of course you have to have some dessert. We went across the street to the store and got kadafi and baklava. Perfect addition we enjoyed at home. So stuffed lol but a good stuffed.

Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Richmond!! The food is always amazing! There isnt anything I have tried that is not delicious. The staff is all very friendly. I do recommend having a reservation if possible, however they usually try to accommodate walking at specific areas of seating. I love they also have outdoor seating.

I came here because of its rating on other platforms. While the drinks were not fantastic- very limited cocktails/no juice. What we did get was okay - would have been better without ice? - the rest is wonderful! We had the special salad and lamb lollipops. Amazing!!! The zucchini was okay but the Taziki was delicious and flavorful. We had the greek pop tart which was full of cheese with lemon, honey and sesame seeds - so unique! The shrimp santoroni was DIVINE! BUT THE DESSERT- - chocolate hazelnut baklava with the most amazing salted caramel gelato. I ll be back just for that!!! Excellent service. Cool vibe.

I greatly enjoyed the ambiance and service that I received at the restaurant. I visited Stellas on a Wednesday evening and I was able to be seated within about 15 minutes. I believe that this is a great restaurant for a lively environment as well as great cocktails. My guest and I tried a lamb appetizer and I had the Moussaka for my main entree. The food was honestly a bit lackluster and missing the great flavor needed to make the entire experience enjoyable. This is a great spot to hang with friends and get cocktails before dinner. Overall nice time and wonderful service.

Incredible, top to bottom. Yia Yia s skillet to start may have been the highlight perfect consistency, healthy, full of flavor. Very tasty octopus. The salad accompanying the octopus was nearly as good, no disrespect to the octopus at all, as it was very good. Anytime the non-featured aspect of a dish is nearly as good as the dish itself, you know you chose well. Moussaka was savory, slightly sweet and very good. Ekmek for dessert was the perfect ending to an incredible meal not too savory, a nice balance of savory and sweet. Last but definitely not least was the service. Our server was so attentive, informative, sweet, and definitely helped us make the most of choices. For residents and tourists alike, don t miss this place!

One of the best restaurants in Richmond. I went on a business dinner and was fortunate to try many different dishes, and everything was fantastic. It is a uniquely cultivated menu and the restaurant has a great story. Dont hesitate, its fantastic!

By far the best dining experience Ive had in Richmond. I dont think I can say anything new than what other reviewers already said. Food, service, ambience are great. What I will say, though, is that you can just tell when people care. The owners clearly care about their employees, and the employees clearly care about the customers. Youll feel it when youre there.

My default restaurant choice in Richmond. Has been for years. Excellent in every respect.

Food is overall very good and the ambiance is intimate but nice, albeit bit cramped and can get fairly loud. Our server was prompt and attentive. The octopus appetizer was good but bit too salty. The main entrees were pretty spot on for what we ordered. I am not particularly a fan of Greek cuisine but if you were looking a good Greek restaurant, I would not hesitate to recommend this place. Not sure if there is parking in the back, but since the restaurant is in a residential area, youd better be prepared to parallel park. They are open for lunch and dinner Monday through Friday and dinner only on Saturday, and closed on Sunday.

Best Greek food I ve had in years. I ve been to Crete and this is better than what I had there. If you love Greek food Stella s is a place must go to.
