We're open for dine-in, carry out, delivery, and curbside pick up. We also provide catering for large groups, weddings, birthday parties, and other occasions.
I visited Afghan Cuisine with a group of friends for dinner. We ordered lamb shank and kabob and we found the food very delicious and authentic. It reminded me of food I grew up eating. Not to mention their service and friendliness of the staff was also noteworthy. I highly recommend this place!
We were in town for a quick visit and wanted some authentic cuisine. I’m glad we settled on Afghan because the lamb shank was out of this world! Perfectly spiced and falls right off the bone. Really enjoyed the baklava too!! We will be back!
We really enjoyed the lamb shank and sauce! Falls right off the bone and tastes DELICIOUS! The kabobs are also perfectly seasoned, so you really can’t go wrong! The owner, Yusef, was very cordial and friendly. We will definitely go back.
I highly recommend this restaurant. They have a new owner who has committed to keeping a diverse culture of food services (including catering) in our beautiful city of Richmond. The food is absolutely delicious. My favorite is the kebab. Come out and support your local small business owners and enjoy all that they have done to add beauty and culture to this building as the new owners.
Afghan Cuisine is a hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Richmond. The polite and respectful staff as well as the pleasant decor complement the food that they never make less than perfect. My personal favorite dish is the chicken kabob with rice and I swear to you I pick it up every other week. They deserved a reward for their constant hard work and if I could I would put them up as one of the tastiest restaurants in Richmond. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself! Their very experienced chefs always cook your meal in a short amount of time with the most outstanding quality. 100/10 Rating, would most definitely dine again.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Afghan Cuisine, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The ambiance was warm and inviting, setting the perfect tone for an unforgettable meal. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the food. Each dish was a masterpiece, showcasing the chef’s incredible talent and attention to detail. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and every bite was a delightful explosion of taste. The service was equally impressive. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They made excellent recommendations and ensured that our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable Overall, Afghan Cuisine is a gem that stands out for its delicious food, excellent service, and charming atmosphere. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience. I can’t wait to return and try more of their amazing offerings!
I love this place. The food is fantastic. I especially love the beef and chicken platter. The atmosphere is very quiet and peaceful too. Friendly staff, all-in-all, a great place to eat.
Sometimes magic does happen. In 2018, we visited Washington DC and on the way home to Charlotte visited Afghan Cuisines and loved the food so much that we always desired to visit them again. Fast forward 2023, we visited DC again, but didn't have a clue about this restaurant as none of our past pics captured the location. We took an exit to go to Panera bread to have our lunch and magically Afghan Cuisines pops up and we decide to take a chance and drive up to it in search of good food. To our surprise, it was the same restaurant and we were all super excited. The food, service and atmosphere has not changed since the last time we visited this place. I have gone through all the reviews and it looks like some travellers had a bad experience, but we had pleasant food that could be rated 5-star. Anyone looking for authentic Kabuli food should visit this place for sure, and hope you will not be disappointed. If you have to order just one dish, go for Lamb Shank. We just loved it!
Kabobs are FANTASTIC. Meat is perfectly seasoned, marinated and tender. Rice was also delicious. 10/10 would highly recommend
Everything excellent thank you
The chicken kebab was super delicious, with a depth of flavor I ve never before experienced. The lamb was tender and melted in your mouth. And the seasoned chickpeas were somehow nutty and sweet. I would not miss this restaurant. It s the real deal.
Food was amazing and very flavorful. A bit noisy but was otherwise very enjoyable. Highly recommend!
I wish this place was good, it wasnt! The ground Beef kabob was bad, smelled & tasted bad. Chicken kabob had nothing to do with Afghan food! I felt like I was eating frozen meals.
The best!
Very stupid restaurant people talking very loud sounds
I really enjoyed my visit to Afghan cuisine the seating was incredibly comfortable. Its nice to find a place where you can enjoy Fresh food Great prices and and a friendly service . I recommend must visit the place Food
Great place to eat. The owner Yousuf was a friendly guy. Highly recommended.
Everything was amazing
Got a Combo Kabab online yesterday. The food was good and all but had terrible food poisoning. Im positive it was Afghan Cuisine food that made me feel sick. Will never try this restaurant again!!!
Very fresh and tasty food! I will be ordering again very soon.
The food looks nice but it is not, cheapeast products ever being used to cook here.
Food was good and fresh, staff was friendly and cooperative, right next to university.
This place was delicious! If youre considering going, definitely check it out! Its worth it
This place is really good and fairly inexpensive, the guy who owns it is phenomenal. Love this place!
Afghan cuisine has become a weekly spot for me, absolutely love it!
The location is great, with access to lots of street parking within 1 block. The food is cooked in an authentic fashion and the fact that the meat is halal is a great bonus. The interior of the place has been recently upgraded, with room to sit at the counter near the grill or a more upscale seating area in a separate room. There is also a mezzanine area with seating up there. The owner and staff were courteous and friendly and the experience was very pleasing. I noticed many people were getting take out, as well as dining in. I will be returning.
We had the family platter and it was amazing 10/10!
Pulaw was the best. Thank you for your service, highly recommended.
The restaurant is very beautiful and worth a visit. The service is very excellent and the food is more than wonderful.
Great food!
Ordered through GrubHub and was the WORST food I have ever had delivered. The falafel subs were 2 pieces of falafel in a tortilla. No sauce or anything. I ordered 2 orders of fries and got one order in a disintegrated and soaking wet bag. The special salad was NOTHING like in the picture which showed lots of veggies. Instead it was cucumbers and tomatoes with TONS of cilantro and something spicy so I couldnt eat it. I have never been SO disappointed in a food order!
One word. Amazing! This was hands down the best afghan food I ve had in a while. They serve the best soups, kabobs, and their lamb shank qabuli is out of this world.
Great service and tasteful food
FOOD WAS REALLY GOOD. CUSTOMERS SERVICE WAS GREAT AS WELL
This place a gem in RVA. Whether you re a foodie or just looking for a great place to enjoy a meal, this restaurant is for you. I can t wait to return and try more of their delicious dishes!

Highly recommended!
Awful experience. Insufficient staff with unexpected issues
Best customer service very tasty food now keep going to the restaurant. I think it s one of the top restaurants Virginia. Food
Great restaurant! The food is amazingly delicious, and the staff are very friendly. I enjoyed their food and hospitality.
Must try the food. Very welcome restaurant and the services are very friendly
This is a restaurant that serves the best Afghan food in Virginia. The authentic delicious food with the outstanding customer service makes this place an unforgettable dinning experience!
The lamb was amazing. The dolmades was fantastic. 10/10 recommend
I was traveling from Charlotte NC and wanted to eat kabobs. Love this restaurant! Great food and atmosphere. Highly recommend!
We love the lamb shanks here so much that we come just about every week! I ve been trying different items and everything has been delicious so far! I like the upgrades they ve done to the dining area, makes for a nice relaxing atmosphere. Definitely come check them out for yourself!
THIS IS IT: HE BEST FAMILY OWNED SMALL-BUSINESS I eat out all the time and let me tell you, I don t usually give 5 stars in all categories out easily. This place deserves the title of best small business spot in VA. And here is why. 1. The Food: attention to food quality is the number one priority, I have eaten fine dining in New York, and commonly you eat out of premium silverware and golden chairs but the food is the main thing you come for, and these people brought to me an authentic Afghan cooking like the one I taste in an Afghani home or in Uzbekistan. The Lamb shank was cooked to perfection, the Pillow was steamed soft and properly seasoned, the bread was fresh, hot, and not over burned. 2. The Service: they posted fast-food low prices, me and my friend spent 50 bucks and ate like kings, but that s not all, we were greeted promptly as we entered, the menu was explained to us in detail and pleasant attitude, and although payment is upfront, the service is brought to the table and the waiter checks on you similar to how you would dine at Olive Garden or better places. 3. The Atmosphere: people don t often care for more than a comfortable sofa, big table, and nice interior decor, this place while looks like a restaurant gives you a homie feeling thanks to its lighting, big windows, spacious arrangement and comfortable seating, and even thou they are in the middle of remodelling they take care to keep the area tidy and quite during opening hours. 4. This place has no professional management it is family owned and powered by the ethics and traditions of its operators, this disconnects you from the white-glove western methods of service and brings you to a sense of normality of how well people treat each other like people. Support this business, stop by, and try that Lamb Shank, other restaurant owners should come here and take notes on how good food is done.
Excellent food and service. I will strongly recommend the chicken kebab and green tea.
Great food and service
Excellent falafel
Very delicious food. Great service. The Atmosphere is so cool. We came and visited this place in May 2024 with friends. We all loved it!
Nasir Afghan
The little restaurant that could. It was a very good experience and the meal was delicious.
Dont be dissuaded by the atmosphere; this is the best halal in town. It is more street food than fine dining, but that is entirely AOK in my book. This is the best Ive had outside of NYC (where competition is fierce). Just one visit and this will become one of your go-tos.
got the chicken kabob for takeout after a long drive and it was so filling and flavourful! i ll be back again when i m in the area for sure :)
The best Qabuli in Richmond
Food was horrible I ordered I lamb platter lamb was half cooked and I almost raw inside was my first time there and last
The tikka was really hard to eat, I couldn t chew it at all. The kufta (kabob) smelled really weird. Honestly, our stomachs were upset after this food. It s not the best. We would not be coming back. Also there were ants and a dead fly around the window area. It was not the best site when you re trying to eat a meal and really overpriced.
Nothing compared to the pictures, food was burned and dry. The fries were very soggy. Food
They served Lamb shank in a very well way.
They have good food
The place is nice and big but mostly takeout, so dine in or groups eat privately. The marinade on the chicken is good and spicy. Make sure you get the side cup of chick peas with your meal. They didnt answer last time I called though, must have been a technical problem.
Disappointing , and does not compare to great Afghan food I have had.Hardly seemed like it could be the same type of food.
The kebab is phenomenal. I like to get a gyro to-go because they last well for left overs.
Great food and thats all that matters. all of the other fancy stuff like designs and good customer service dont matter as long as the food is tasty. Lamb shank with qubali palow is to die for, so awesome. I also got the Tikka kabob which was really good as well.
Searched for a good restaurant on the way back to Charlotte from Washington, and found it.This restaurant. It was really awesome food. We all enjoyed it.
Good Kabuli Pulav
Food is . My favorite is the kobida kabob. The sabzi qorma was surprisingly good as well.
I enjoyed the kebabs at this restaurant. However, they kind of ruined the traditional atmosphere by putting ranch salad dressing on the salad. I love ranch dressing, but I was not expecting to have it served to me in an Afghan restaurant.
Delicious authentic Afghan Cuisine!
Scam scam. Prices are way different from the one in the menu. However, I asked about the prices before I placed my order he confirmed prices in the menu. When it came to check out the charge was much more expensive. Also, they keep arguing and dont resolve the problem. Not only over charge, but also there is a credit card charge, they call it cash discount. I never heard about cash discount which is an extra charge to the order.
I was hungry and tired after 7hrs drive. On my way to Richmond and back to Northern Virginia, I search for Afghani traditional food and stop by this Afghani qeusin. All type of food surprisingly good . Recommend for every food lovers. Its cheep, well done and delicious. TRY YOU WILL LOVE THE FOOD AND FRIENDLY GREAT SERVICES.
The Mantu was delicious although paying over $16 for it after taxes was unpleasant.
The food was full of flavors with some delicacies of Afghan cuisine. Mantu (dumplings) was almost authentic to the taste of Kabul, and its Qabuli Palaw was very delicious. Lamb was also excellent; overall, I recommend this place. Food
my name is Haider Khan Mangal Afghan Cuisine Very high quality food. Today I had lunch at an Afghan restaurant. He prepared the best Mahicha Palaw. I thought I was eating at a Turkmen restaurant in Kabul. I hope everyone, if you want to eat the best and affordable food, come to Afghan Cuisine Richmond, VA. 5 stars from me
Food was good, but the ordering procedure was not clear. Very dull atmosphere. Vegetarian options: Good vegetarian options. Food : 5/5 |
Best chicken kabobs I have ever had. The rest of the dish was very good too. There was little wait and great service.
Incredible food!!
Great food! I will definitely come back again
We we re family eat there. The place clean and food so good. Thanks
Very tasty and fresh.
Ok
Have never had a bad experience here. The food is always great and the people working there are very friendly and helpful. The prices are decent for the sheer amount of food you receive. If you are new in town and want to try something new, make sure to stop by here and grab the Super Combo; you will not be disappointed. Just be aware the parking directly outside the front of the building is till 8pm and requires payment for parking (city not the restaurants doing).
As an Afghan, I have been to many Afghan restaurants in VA but this one was the worst experience. The gentleman from the front desk who brought the food was really in bad mood. The tables were dirty . the dirty dishes were left on the table next to us for the whole time it was probably from a previous customers who ate and they never thought to clean the table. If the restaurant were busy it was understandable but there was nobody but us on a Saturday lunch time. The food quality was low probably 5 tablespoons of rice with really watery salad. I m not sure if it was one of their days or they are always like this but regardless we won t be back . The price is high too you could easily eat better quality food in Dunnya banquet hall or Bamyan restaurant.
Delicious food! Authentic Afghan cuisine. The meat falls right off the bone! I highly recommend this place and will definitely eat here again.
Food taste, quantity was good, nothing to complain about service, price is fair. Ground beef kabob was really good.
Wow, the best Qabuli Palov Lamb Shank and Mantu in Virginia and the United States Try
Today I tried Combo kabob, so juicy and tender. I like the environment and the people who works there. 5 star 5 star 5 star and 5 star
Im talking to the owner. remove that eye and destroy it. if you are a Muslim, then you must understand that this is shirk. trust only in ALLAH.
Food is ok but, restaurant is horribly dirty. Eat if your life depends on it. Cheap as well
Meat was tough and dry with no flavor. The pita bread and naan were stale.
They had the best Kabob ever! It s so tasty and I couldn t stop eating! The vibes is a little annoying due to the TV volume is so loud. Food
Amazing
Good food, authentic style Afghan food in RVA.
Mid grade at Best you don t get a lot of bang for your buck.
Amazing food! We had the family platter, and we enjoyed every bite!!
Absolutely the best food I have ever had going out, anyone that says otherwise is either petty or has an immature pallet. Their food is absolutely amazing and I hope they get more popularity
Very good
5 stars food and service Great prices and high quality food Food
Kid-friendliness: First time here at Afghan Cousin. We had the lamb shank and it was delicious. We will definitely be back. You can bring your family. Highly recommended! Give it a try and you won t be disappointed. Food
I love to eat here.
My favorite restaurant
the large rice with lamp chank is very very very very small amount of rice .I am wondeing if I order the small one how it will be . !!!?????
Rice was leftover and cold. Salad was leftover. Atmosphere unpleasant . Kitchen set up was unprofessional. Do not be tricked because this place does not serve authentic Afghan food. Mantu was frozen and I did not taste good.
Super yummy food. Large portions.
Service is at all zero, food is not original Afghani specialty manto , never seen like that. Waiting time is to long.
Best kabobs in Richmond!
Food was very delicious especially KOBIDA KABOB & TIKA KABOB.
The food was fresh, very delicious and friendly staff. Excellent service.
Great food and wonderful owner! Such friendly people.
Their wrap is good and they give you a lot of fries with their combo
The food was not bad. No complaints about taste. However, the brother gave my order to someone else before I got there by mistake. They need to improve that. Then, he told me 8 minutes till my food will be ready but it took more like 18 minutes. In the end, there was no apology or discount for the whole mixup which would have been appreciated. I would still get food from there next time I am passing by but give plenty of time and tell him to put your name on the order.
I went with two of my friends who kept hyping the place up. I got the Kobida kabab and the food did not disappoint, will definitely go back again!
The food is very delicious and this place is covered with a wonderful hospitality. It is my favorite restaurant for long time.
The food it was so so delicious off course is afghani food but they are kunduz Kunduz place they are food is delicious
Nice food, courteous staff, enjoyed my dinner with my family here. What else you can ask for. Thank you
I would give this place a zero star. I ordered the Soltani Platter (tikka kabob and kobideh), plus a hamburger. The hamburger was hard, extremely dry and tough. The inside of the patty was white. The first bite, I had difficulty just tearing it with my teeth. The tikka and kobideh were also tough to the teeth, very dry. No white sauce. The white rice was super oily. I drove 30 miles round-trip hiking to eat a decent dinner after a long, stressful work week. I ve never been this disappointed with food, especially kabobs and burger. I would have been better off ordering pizza or going to McDonalds. What s worse is that my stomach is now feeling queasy. I chose this place to specifically eat Afghan type of food, the ambience was unappealing but I didn t care for that. The wait time to get the food was 30 mins. Cold, dry, tough meat never going back again.
Delicious kabobs, one of the best in richmond! Really recommend their chicken kabob platter. Amazing staff as well
Definitely best Kebab in town, great service and great prices. The owner is really friendly and knows his stuff
Fantastic food and super friendly people! When I dined in, I asked about a yogurt sauce they used to serve, and even though they dont serve it anymore the owner made some for me himself - free of charge. I cant recommend this place enough!
The best authentic Afghan cuisine in Richmond. I highly recommend them.
Wonderful food every visit. Inspired me to try so if the dishes out myself
Staff was amazing! Food eas really good!!
Had a great experience here! My husband loved the qabuli palow and I got the mantu. Very flavorful and filling. Would recommend!
Good service, clean , testy
If you re looking for AUTHENTIC Afghani food, this is it guys. One of the best I have had, try the lamb shank over Afghani Pulao, Sultani and Kubide.
Large portions. Friendly Staff. Good food.
I really like the food s
This was the best food Ive had since visiting Virginia
Worst place to eat. No cleanliness no hyegen All kabobs were raw and tasteless. Nothing was ok
I can t go back to the life I lived before having this food. To think that I thought I was happy before that beef kabob touched my tongue is nuts. How the rice be fire, too? I wanna bathe in the baklava honey. And the kindness from the guy who took our order and prepared our food was unmatched. Unfortunately, my pockets just gone have to understand because I m now a loyal customer.
Excellent food
The food here is fantastic.
On a shopping trip up to Richmond from Hampton Roads, we stopped in here for a late lunch. We were the only patrons in the restaurant, but, the gentleman that helped us was very nice. It was close to closing, 2:30pm, yet they still served us with a smile. The food was wonderful. I had the Mantu which was delicious . My son had the chicken Kabob, we took every bite, that we couldnt eat, home with us. We will definitely eat here again!
Love the Mantu and Palow served up here at this underrated restaurant. I suppose I would consider this restaurant underrated as both times Ive dined there it was quiet though the food was excellent and a great value. Will be back soon!
I am a truck driver Usually every state and cities I go I check out the Afghan food but honestly this place have the best Afghan food I strongly recommend the Lamb Qboly Palaw.
Good, but a little expensive.
The food is not nice at all. I don t like it at all.
It was too expensive and not available choices
This is probably the most flavorful restaurant in Richmond. Great value. My husband and I get take out a few times a month. Tonight I tried the fried chicken roll, and it was soooo good! I had no idea what to expect but it was super juicy and flavorful with fresh veggies and tender chicken. Also, the mantu is amazing and the green chutney they send along is to die for. Everything is perfectly spiced.
Delicious food. The stewed okra and veggies is vegetarian and would probably be vegan without the salad dressing.
This place is amazing, food is delicious, I would recommend this place and it s family friendly
We got the chicken jalfrezi and it was amazing. Everything is halal!
I came here with my family and we ordered the Soltani Kabob, Combo Kabob, Mantu, and french fries. The kabob dishes were absolutely fantastic. Meat was very tender and flavorful. Rice was very good, and I highly recommend that you ask for their white sauce, as it goes very well with the rice. The mantu wasnt bad, but it was cold by the time we got it. French fries (for my daughter) were very good too. All in all, would love to come back again.
Terrible customer service and the food doesn t taste good. I went there for dinner and at the end they charged me double, when I asked the reason they just made an excuse that the menu is expired which it really didn t make any sense. Please go somewhere else and don t waste your time and money in this place.
Wooowwww superb , the food is awesome highly recommend it
food is awesome, qaboli polo was the best but service needs a lot improvement
This place is incredible. Food tastes excellent and it was made very well. Ive never seen takeout food that looks as good as this! I cant wait to get it again. 10/10
This place was amazing! I ve never eaten afghan food so I didn t know what to expect. After eating here I definitely want to come back for more! The food was incredibly flavorful. The fresh herbs and all the spices were used perfectly in each dish. Even though we got take out, the presentation of the food was great too! I m excited to go back and try more.
Good
Super delicious afghan food great customer service. Defendly I dont mind to drive 2hrs n 50mins from north carolina to virginia to taste their food. 100% recommended.
Had their lamb FANTASTIC. Seriously. Fall off the bone good. Can be spicy. So be ready. But their lamb and rice was not that spicy. Seriously Perfect.
Excellent Mixed Platter!
I don t recommend this restaurant for Afghans who are looking for Afghani food taste. This was the worst experience of mine being in an Afghan restaurant.
Another great staple in Richmond! I got the chicken kabob and rice with naan. The naan was pretty average to me however the chicken flavoring was delightful and the overall price for the meal was very affordable for the quality of food. Im excited to eat here again!
Food is ultimate.. Chicken kebobs are very smooth, tender and tasty.
On a Monday we were looking for Biryani in several Indian/Pakistani restaurants and after a couple of failed attempts we finally decided upon this place. Our disappointment soon vanished after having food here. We ordered one combo kabob platter which comes with a stick of chicken kabab and a stick of minced kabab accompanied with rice, a slice of naan bread and some salads. It was delicious!! We are eager to come back again and try their other options. Loved the food !
I found the people so friendly and my God the food was so delicious. If you didnt try try it its worth to experience.
They provide an excellent service and very delicious and juicy food
This restaurant has a very friendly environment and really worth able and testy foods.
Food was amazing, service was friendly and great
The food was fresh and delicious, the staff was wonderful. Will be coming back!
Kabob test good and I will come testing everything
Great thanks
Delicioussss
The food was delicious! Ordered the mantu and the combo with chicken and kodibeh, both equally delightful. Definitely coming back!
Great food and service
Chicken tandoori was tender and spicy-hot enough to make you take notice but not so hot you couldnt taste it. Chicken kabobs were delicious, too (I think. My table finished theirs before I got a taste.) Will absolutely be back!
The food was very good. The flavor was also good. The dining room tables were not clean. They need to change the table cloths more often. Otherwise it was good. I would recommend this restaurant.
The food is delicious, I will recommend this for my friends too. See you soon
The best restaurant I have ever been in USA that the food will feel you real Afghan Taste I invite all to must give a try
Excellent food
Delicious Afgani food
