About Portico Portico is in a charming cottage nestled on River Road; Its Country setting is reminiscent of Napa Valley’s Wine Country or Italy’s Portofino. Surrounded by fragrant fresh herbs and blooming flower gardens sits our stone terrace. Benches strewn with plush blankets surround a large stacked stone fireplace. Flickering candles on tables create the perfect setting for outdoor dining under the stars. From our small kitchen cottage we serve a casual Italian inspired menu along with a carefully selected wine list. Portico is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner and brunch is served on Sunday mornings.
This place was flawless. The outside dining is where it is at for Portico. It was a perfect fall day, 72 degrees outside, and sunny. The food pasta was perfect. The wine was great. The service was perfect. The outside dining was perfected by the well manicured grounds. This place is a must in the spring and fall.
I have been wanting to eat here for years. After one visit, I probably will not go back again. Here are the pros and cons. Let’s talk about cons first. Difficult to get a table, my best option was outside sitting at 5:15 PM on a October Saturday night when I made reservation one week prior. Very expensive. We ordered two appetizers, one cocktail, four entrees, one dessert, plus 17% tip (we normally tip 20% for a good service, but in this case, it would be and tax, it was $55 per person. It was too much for family dinner. Not to mention the food was not memorable. It would be fine if the dishes were better, nothing was exceptional. Lastly, the restaurant offers mandatory free valet parking. For two cars, it was an additional $10 in gratuity. Now, let’s talk about the pros. The restaurant was very charming. Outdoor tables were surrounded by herb garden and heat lamps. Service was top notch, our waiter Billy deserves a five star. My disappointment was with the food. The quality and flavor did not meet the price tag and my expectations. There is no options for vegetables, same sautéed vegetables for every dish. I ordered the Grilled Shrimp, Franco's Lobster Caper Cream Sauce was just OK. My husband had Seafood Crepe. It was an innovative dish, but did not have a wow factor. My son had Lamb Risotto, it was cooked well. The lamb was tender and full of flavors. My daughter ordered the Petite New York Steak medium well, it was bloody when cut into the steak. Our waiter Billy took the dish back immediately and gave her a Caesar salad while she waited. They cooked a new piece of steak for my daughter. The only issue was we all finished with our meals and had to wait for her. The presentation of appetizers was beautiful. We ordered the Grilled Artichoke & Crab, it was delicious! The Caprese was nothing special. Our friend we met up with ordered the special Arancine Siciliane, it looked very appetizing. Tiramisu hit the spot. This is just my opinions, you should definitely give this restaurant a try since it is so popular with locals.
This little restaurant is beautiful in a quiet neighborhood. Lots of outdoor seating because it's so small. But it exudes atmosphere. The service was wonderful as was the food. This was a great dining experience.
What a cool place! A small, cooked-to- order restaurant. Loved the atmosphere. The restaurant has two sitting options, indoor and out in the garden patio. The seafood crepes were very unique. It's delicious, but a little watery. Definitely make reservations. I'm looking forward to another visit.
We enjoyed a lovely brunch with a wonderful quiche of the day and French toast. The drinks were great too! The lemoncello surprise was very refreshing. This restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere and beautiful garden. Highly recommend eating outside if you can.
This restaurant is adorable. The wait time was a little long but not too bad. The food was fabulous. My only complaint is regarding our server. He was helpful and polite during ordering but was not real attentive after the food came to the table. Didn't come back in a timely fashion to ask if we wanted another mixed drink or to check on us except for once near the end of the meal. Not a deal breaker, I will definitely return.
Went here for the first time last week and it was excellent! The food was incredible, as was the service. Nick was an excellent server—he was incredibly helpful, gave amazing recommendations, and was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and specials. We tried the special starter of the night, the roasted tomato burrata and it was exceptional. Complimentary valet parking is also a nice perk!
The food is very good. Fresh high quality ingredients in every dish. The chef is Sicilian, the food reminds me of my grandmother’s cooking! The atomosphere is beautiful inside and outdoors. Great cocktails from the bar too! A favorite go to spot.
Being an Italian restaurant, serving worst spaghetti with that expensive price is pathetic. Service and ambience was wonderful but food was so bad.
Such a quaint place, with great food and excellent service. And, the bartenders actually know how to make a stiff drink! Oh, and free valet service.
Great brunch. Great service.
Its such a beautiful place. Mandatory valet parking, be warned if not used to valet as the only option. Ordered a drink I thought Id like. The bartender saw on my face and recommended a better option, which was so delicious. The waitress was attentive and had such an amazing attitude. We all truly felt like we had a good time.
The location is beautiful. Sitting outside you truly feel like you re in a different place like Napa or Tuscany! The food was okay. Not amazing. I definitely wouldn t be like I m dying to go back and eat what I ate but I would 100% go back for the vibes. The food was solid and the portions were large. The server was very nice and helpful but not fast. They seemed understaffed in the FOH, but it was a random Tuesday for lunch. That said, the food did come quickly!
A piece of Italy 10/10. Had an amazing bday lunch here!
All amazing! Server was not only quick, but funny! The food was amazing, atmosphere is gorgeous, would definitely come back! Vegetarian options: I can t think of everything about the plates, but there were many good, delicious options!
10/1/22 - First time to Portico. A very nice setting inside and out. Our waitress was attentive and friendly, other wait staff were helpful (clearing dishes, dropping food off). The potato leek soup had a great taste and kept us guessing on its unique flavor. The Bolognese and flounder dishes were good. The bread dip was something I had not had before, and my wife was quite pleased, as she is not one to normally use bread dips. We will be back. 9/7/24 - Second time to Portico. Repeat on great food, customer service, and desirable setting. For all of those, I would go back. I did though have an issue. In 43 years of driving, I have never chosen to have my vehicle valet parked. I had no idea when I pulled up to expect a valet, or that I would have no choice. I asked if I could park my own vehicle, and the answer was no. I begrudgingly allowed them to take my vehicle and park it. The space that they pulled it into was the space that I was 5 feet from where they stopped me. When I went back to grab a jacket from my vehicle, I witnessed the attendants allow a man in a convertible park his own car. This was a bit unsettling. Although we are more than willing to pay for a nice meal, I am selective about what other services that I use, and that a person should have that choice. Parking: Be aware that you may not have a choice to park your own vehicle
Amazing!!! The food was amazing and Emma was extremely attentive
Great lunch at a small, intimate restaurant that has great service and good drinks.
We will be back!
Reserved a table 2 weeks ago for 6 outside, which is fine as they say they have heaters. Well let s say this was so bad we were seated at a table in the farthest back of the outside seating in the dark with a heater we had to ask to turn on.. This was not acceptable. We had to use our phone s flash like to read the menu. As well as you could not see what we were eating. Very very poor service and no respect for our visit.
Great food and ambiance
We celebrated Megan s 20th Birthday and yes I do agree with another reviewer that the Valet Parking simply does not work. Once again the restaurant should stick to producing amazing food. The ladies picked pizza I wanted comfort food and got baked spaghetti with meatballs. Pasta was homemade! If they have the Lemmon layer cake you need to get it. It is made in Italy and flown in.
Our anniversary dinner couldn t been better because of the exceptional food, service and atmosphere!
Fantastic night and Babies first dinner out !! A must when in Richmond !! Oh and be nice to the valets !!
I loved everything about this magical place. The service was perfect. The food was generous and very tasty. The wine list was appropriate. I recommend outside seating.
Very good food but they insist upon valet parking when there is plenty of parking available. Long wait to leave and ultimately had to retrieve my own car. Annoying enough process to make me think twice about dining there again.
I live in Florida just north of Siesta Key. I evacuated prior to Hurricane Milton and came home to Richmond. A friend and I dined at your restaurant today and we sat outside. I was quite pleased with your al fresco option in your beautiful garden. We shared the calamari fritti appetizer which was perfectly fried. I like marinara sauce with it and asked our server if she could bring some out. She did without hesitation. Cindy had the salmon salad and I had the crab omelette. Everything came out quite warm and on time. Both plates were beautifully garnished and not overcrowded. Unfortunately we had to leave due to prior obligations but when I return, I will leave room for dessert. Great job! Parking: The restaurant was busy and being handicapped, I could not find an open accessible spot so we parked on the side. We took the path with the pavers and I had a bit of a problem going down the steps leading to the outside dining area. There was no handrail which you might consider installing. I say that because when we left, I tried to walk up those stairs, lost my balance, and with no handrail to help I took a tumble. Having a prosthetic leg and two hands that dont work very well, I wish you had a handrail or two. Wheelchair accessibility: Ebony never been there before I did not want to know the layout.
Greatly enjoyed the swordfish sandwich lunch special I ordered today. Front porch Ambience for certain!
Great date spot. Great food and great service!
The food is always so good! No matter what you order. The service was very slow. Maybe low on wait staff. Why 3 stars.
Fantastic food, big portions, very polite service. Parking by valet goes smooth
We got there right when it opened. It was my daughter s birthday lunch. Even though we were one of the first tables, we waited 45 minutes for our food. We sat inside and had to swat a few flies away. The waiter visited our table only 3 times. The homemade chips were burnt. The rest of the food was delicious though.
BD celebration for one of a friends group of 6. Sat outside for early dinner. Service a bit slow, but server was so genuine and attentive to us personally that we didnt notice at the time. Food was good. Both the shrimp dish and seafood crepe were great (a 5 for sure). Wine selection was good. Truly enjoyed the experience.
Honestly the best meal I have had this year. Get the lamb risotto! The calamari was perfect also. Wonderful restaurant, sit on the patio if you can.
Dinner on the patio during a busy weekend and Portico was nothing short of impressive. We love the patio garden and appreciated the complimentary valet parking this weekend. The Ahi Tuna and Penne Alla Vodka were gorgeous and tasted even better. For dessert we had the limoncello cake (yum!) and our waiter surprised us with a complimentary taste of moscato to help celebrate date night. Still our favorite Richmond restaurant, great job Portico!!!
Incredible food, incredible atmosphere, highly recommend.
Our first time. All I can say is Wow!! Excellent, excellent, excellent. The service was top notch and the food - I can t say enough - it was amazing. It looked beautiful and tasted even better. Top to bottom one of the next experiences I ve had at a restaurant in a long time. We will be back!!
The intimate atmosphere was exceptional especially outside dining. The service from the valet, to the cooks and serves was 1st rate! The food was great! My mushroom ravioli was tender, fluffy and tasted great. My tossed salad had to have one of the most ripped, juicy tomatoes Ive ever had. The extra bonus was the portico !
Beautiful environment!! First time visit. Went for my Birthday dinner after highly recommended from a lot of folks that I know well. Perhaps my expectations were high. Loved the valet parking. Classy and attentive front reception. Knew I was there for my birthday dinner celebration. My husband and I were sure to have a great experience. We sat out in the gardens. Beautiful! Our server was busy but attentive-ish We received our app on point.( calamari) Waited awhile for entrees and second round of drinks . I got the seafood crepe s which where excellent!! Meanwhile my husband received a fillet mignon well done when orders med and got mashed potatoes when he asked for fries. They wish to fix this, which is great! My husband asked for the plate to come with just the steak no fixins But came as presented on menu. So more mashed potatoes and gravy / soup garlic and onions. My husband was done at this point. So I had dinner by myself! While my husband never ate his meal. The owner/manager came to reconcile which was good but he basically told us they are allowed one mistake and it happened to you tonight . Yikes! That didn t sit well on my bday dinner. So, to conclude they comp his meal (nice) as I watch another birthday table get a free dessert, when I was only offered a menu of dessert and asked if I saved room Idk.. I m not impressed. Sorry.. not sorry Hope all have a better experience for the food could and would have been worth it. You decide if I m being too critical!!
Since finding this place we love going there. It is not the cheapest around however, you get what you pay for in life. The food is of a good standard as is the service. Our last visit there were 5 adults and my niece aged 3. It is an adult orientated restaurant and they do not have a kids menu however, will accommodate. They have recently started a valet service. Kid-friendliness: Had my 3 year old niece with us and although they do not have a kids menu they will accommodate.
Great venue, outstanding service and menu.
Went for brunch on a Sunday. Service was ok, a bit snarky. Food was good. Outdoor atmosphere was good except for the occasional sewage smell that wafted by us.
The food and atmosphere was absolutely amazing; however the service was VERY slow. We got there right when it opened at 11:30AM on a Friday and they took us straight to a table outside. It then took us 45 minutes to get our drinks and over an hour for us to get our food. It took so long to get our food I had to request a box to go and I ate my lunch later. I d love to go back as my Caprese sandwich was absolutely delicious, but will make sure I m not in any rush.
Great little spot for an intimate Italian meal in the West end.
Excellent food and atmosphere. The service was friendly and professional. I would recommend sitting outside as it is very nice, weather permitting of course. Though the inside is very nice too. I highly recommend the salmon roulade. Also reservations are a good idea.
Cora was awesome! Pizza was delicious.
Every time I visit for dinner the food and service is always fantastic. Our waitress was very efficient and polite. It s a very nice atmosphere sitting outside on the patio.
Usually a stand-by favorite. Love the patio dining option. We went for a Saturday lunch. Food was good, but service was not great, and that is unusual.
Reseveration was lost. But they accommodated us. Beautiful walk in the garden. Valet severice a must.
I cant say enough positive things about this place. I had the garlic bread, onion soup and caprese with prosciutto sandwich. The soup was beyond words good. There was so much flavor and umami. It is not French onion soup. The garlic bread was unique and flavorful. We sat outside in the garden. Really!!!? Where else can you do that in the Richmond area?
First time eating dinner. Previously always brunch. Food did not meet expectations. Not sure what happened. Calamari was way over salted. Shrimp was good, but it was missing the crisp prosciutto, which is why I ordered it. Mashed potatoes were barely warm. Overall, it was not a good night at the kitchen. Expected better Parking: Valet was complimentary. Gratuity tho.
This place did NOT disappoint at all. I would dine here any day of the week. The food is absolutely delicious. My family and I went to celebrate our anniversary. We ordered the New York steak with mashed potatoes and veggies, brushetta (which is to die for), salads, pastas, and a burger with fries. It was so darn good! Their desserts are also worth it. My daughter walked out saying that this was her favorite restaurant. Mind you, we are from Los Angeles, where food is good, but she lost her mind over this place. We are definitely returning. Thank you, Portico, for being so incredibly wonderful!
Hoping for better. All good related issues. Calamari was over salted. Mashed potatoes at best luke warm. Grilled shrimp dish lacking crisp prosciutto. One noticeable piece. Connor (server) did a great job. Great attitude.
This place has the best vibe it really makes this place special the food is a hit or miss. They had a really yummy vodka sauce and a delicious broccoli and cheddar bisque but the veggie pizza we ordered was flavorless also their drinks were good
Celebrated my birthday at Portico. Highly recommend!
Elegant Italian fine-dine experience! Vegetarian options: Ask the server & they can tell you what dishes they can make vegetarian. Servers are very helpful in making that selection. Food : 5/5 |
My dad had to go to the hospital and I cancelled reservations-2 days prior-I went to Portico and waited an hour to see the menu, place my order. Horrible Father s Day experience.
The wedge salad was delicious but the rest of the meal, the main courses, were only fair. Eggplant parmesan was covered in a blanket of cheese and was barely recognizable as eggplant. Disappointing.
Was I in Richmond or Napa Valley? What an incredible evening. We were seated on a lovely patio. Appetizers were presented and prepared perfectly. Salads right on que and delicious. Main courses were superb. Deserts were a perfect finish. Drinks and wine were delivered on time and I can t say enough about the service. Our server, Meredith was friendly, attentive and just a total pleasure. I can t wait to do this again!!
This is a favorite restaurant for many people besides me. Reservations are probably necessary. The food is always good and the atmosphere is charming.
The food and atmosphere were great; however I feel it is absurd to be charge extra for cranberry juice when you order a vodka cranberry that already costs $12. Parking: The valet service was terrible. It took 20 minutes to get our car. We were not given a choice - we were forced to valet. Either get rid of the valet service or have attendants that know how to valet park. It should not take that long to get your car!
Perfectly off the beaten path! Atmosphere was wonderful. Food was excellent. Service was impeccable!
Always an incredible experience
The portobello sandwich was very bland, and the BLT was dry, barely a dab of mayo. The bread for the BLT was very good.
Excellent service
Patio was absolutely beautiful. Food and cocktails were outstanding. Service was so so. Food
Cute spot for date night. The majority of the dining space is outside but it s covered and has heaters if you re concerned about out the cold/warmer weather. We ordered the garlic bread, penne bolognese with meat balls and pizza rustica! All were delicious! The restaurant offered complimentary valet too!
I was so looking forward to trying this place, and we decided to do mother s day dinner here. We had reservations and showed up on time, the restaurant was essentially empty, and stayed 90% empty the entire time we were there. We requested outdoor seating, which is the only draw to this restaurant, and they refused and sat us inside. Every other person that came after us was sat outside. Normally we would go all out on apps, drinks, entrees but they were so rude we just had water and the bare minimum food so mom wouldn t starve. The food was mediocre and either the salad or chicken entree made my fiance extremely ill. Even barely getting anything we still spent $150 with the tip(server was nice) so if they wouldn t have been rude and treated us like crap we would have probably spent about $500 Parking: valet only, which were were not expecting, so don t bring valuables or drive an exotic.
First time for lunch and what a nice surprise! Great atmosphere inside and outside and delicious food!
good ambience, great food. Had a good evening with family.
Food was wonderful! Calamari was crisp and tasty. Seafood crepe was yummy. Eggplant parm delicious. Penne with chicken flavorful.
Beautiful setting, fabulous upscale offerings.
###Update### ok, just gonna put this out there. Absolutly one of the best pizzas Ive ever had! The sausage, pepperoni, the pesto, everything just freaking works! One of my absolute favorites. You wont find a more professional staff and the food is out of this world. Youre gonna pay for it but its really really good. The quaint cottage feel, the outdoor pation and fireplace with the perfectly groomed grounds make this a go-to for celebratory meals.
We ate here for the first time. Overall the meal was fine but my husband ordered a salad. He literally got a plate of lettuce and four sliced cucumbers and that was it. I think we were charged about $15.00 for the salad.
So delicious! We had the red pepper soup special, rockfish special and lamb risotto. The soup was probably the highlight for me it was sooo good. The risotto was also absolutely perfect and my husband was pleasantly surprised by the quantity and quality of the lamb. Atmosphere was really nice and the pacing for when they brought out the next courses was spot on. Will definitely go back for another special occasion.
Great food and ambiance. The Seafood Crepes were sensational!
Delicious food, excellent atmosphere and great service! 10/10
In a charming spot where meals are fair, American tastes, with style and flair. A patio cute, where guests can sit, Around a hearth, where flames are lit. Service swift, with smiles so grand, Excellence served, by a caring hand. Here, warmth meets taste, a perfect fusion, A dining joy, beyond illusion.
Been wanting to go here for quite awhile. Finally happened upon it while driving down river rd. Was happy that I did. Did not sit outside as the weather was a bit chilly. But inside was still a nice ambiance as they have windows looking out onto the terrace. Will have to go back when I can be out. The parking lot was full, but there was still quite a few empty tables. We were there for lunch and the menu offered a fairly good choice. Sandwiches, soup, salads . I guess you could order off the big menu too. I had the caprese sandwich and the home cooked chips. A definite try if you like crispy chips. My husband had the chicken salad sandwich and broccoli potato soup. All of it was delicious and reasonably priced. We couldnt resist ordering espresso and tiramisu for dessert. Service was excellent. Bathroom large and clean.
Beautiful restaurant, nice outside dining with heated floor under a huge canopy
Legit food. Legit service. Legit location. Crowd is a little boomeresque but the food is something that will supremely satisfy you.
One of my favorite restaurants! Great food and great service.
The calamari did not disappoint, and we loved the seafood crepes and rockfish. Finished the night off with sformato and cappucinos!
Our experience was Wonderful! Can t wait to return when the weather warms up so we can enjoy the outside dining they offer , which was absolutely beautiful as well onlooking! Our server was awesome as well!
I always look forward to having dinner here because it is truly an experience. Not only is the food authenticity Italian, fresh and delicious, but the atmosphere is warm, intimate and inviting . I personally enjoy the patio in the summer, but its available all year round . I ordered the Manhattan cocktail, caprese and homemade manicotti with marinara sauce. So light and delicious. I also ordered the limoncello cake dessert. (We saved room for dessert and took home leftovers from dinner) My friend ordered eggplant puntinesca, and chocolate ice cream dessert. We will be talking about this dinner for days! Make reservations! Friendly staff and owner Buon Appettito!
Best restaurant for calamari. Lightly Battered, perfect tender doneness. Filet on specials menu had a maillard with almost a crunch, delicious.
I made a reservation here a few weeks ago for my boyfriend s 30th birthday dinner (party of 2). I used the OpenTable app and someone from the restaurant called to confirmed the day before. I loved being able to adjust easily the time as I had moved the reservation back the day before to 7:30pm. I m always hesitant to dine at establishments (bad service, lack of menu items, etc.) close to their closing time and when I moved the reservation back I didn t realize they closed at 9pm on Mondays. However, Portico exceeded my expectations. The hostess wished my boyfriend and happy birthday once I confirmed my name, loved that! The restaurant is beautiful and I can see why the patio is so popular. There were people dining on the patio as it was covered and looked heated. The indoor setting is very intimate so I think it d be great for a date night! I had to take a picture of our receipt because I forgot our server s name at the end of the night but she, Cora was great. Cora was very patient, polite, and gave great details. She also didn t make us feel rushed once! We followed just about all of her recommendations and they didn t miss. My boyfriend got the brown buttered old fashioned and ranked it as his all time favorite cocktail and I had the Buckshot which she recommended because I like ginger. Now Italian is the cuisine I eat the least and never really crave (I ate too much spaghetti as a kid) so I wasn t sure what I wanted and went with Cora s favorite dish, the gnocchi. I wanted to add a protein and took Cora s rec for the sausage as opposed to shrimp due to the red sauce and she was right! The flavors were amazing and everything was cooked perfectly. I ve had gnocchi 2 other times and this is by far the best. I also added a Caesar salad to my dish and it was big enough to split and was brought out before our entrees. I asked to remove the tomato s and kept the artichoke and both my boyfriend and I agree it s in the top 2 of best Caesar salads we ve ever had, and we love those! My boyfriend had the NY strip steak and loved it, it was cooked and seasoned just right. We opted out of apps and desserts because we went to a HH beforehand. The portions were perfect as we both had leftovers for lunch today. I absolutely will be visiting here again when I can enjoy the patio in warmer months, 10/10 recommend!
Our waiter, Brian, did a fantastic job and the food was delicious!! You will not be disappointed here.
What a surprising GEM at the edge of Goochland County on River Road. The atmosphere is amazing and food exceedingly went beyond our expectations! Elias the server was excellent and very knowledgeable of the menu and recommendations! Can t wait to bring our friends for a dinner date night! Highly recommended. Enjoy
Great place to be . It far exceeded are expectations. Prices were very reasonable and food was excellent. Great quick service on a busy Friday. Great job staff. Avoid the haters if they right a bad review.
My favorite secret resturaunt..cant wait till weather permits being outside..such a beautiful space..and the Food!
Three of us had lunch outside in the tent. Great food and service.
Always such an amazing atmosphere, great food, and fantastic service here! Love the outdoor patio area.
Whoever owns this joint, they know what theyre doing when it comes to food and I would love for them to decorate my house.
Visited alone for Sunday brunch . I was requested to sit on the bar bench claiming no tables available. I could see tables free when I was stepping out both inside and outside restaurant and overall the experience was not that great.
Hands-down, one of my favorite places to eat in Richmond. Wonderful service, the atmosphere is magical and the food is to die for!
Amazing place!
I had a pesto pasta with chicken and wished I had a little more chicken in it. It tasted delicious! We sat under the heated tent at the fireplace. It is a wonderful atmosphere!
Great place to celebrate special occasions. Ambiance is very warm. Great place for photo op as well. We had calamari, bruschetta and lamb. All of them were very yummy. Cocktails with jalapenos is a must try.
Ver nice atmosphere and friendly workers
Excellent dinner and service.
Service a little slow. Atmosphere was very noisy. Food good but over priced.
Service and atmosphere is always very good but menu is limited, not very tasty and much too expensive.
Great food
Unbelievable find. From presentation to taste to the atmosphere . . . Loved it all. Great place for a romantic dinner or to bring the family. Will definitely be back!!
Beautiful view. Food
A beautiful setting for an outdoor dining.
Best Yellow Fin Tuna (Ahi) on the mainland since I was stationed Hawaii! Thank you!
The food was phenomenal only thing was we ate outdoors and a huge downpour came along. We all got quite wet.
Atmosphere was fantastic. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Went for a quick happy hour with a friend stayed for two hours. Couldn t be happier with the whole place.
Parking is tight when theyre busy, carpool if you can.
From the ambience of the restaurant to the quality of the food, Portico is the place to be. Service is always impeccable. Give it a try if you can! Located off the beaten path off of River Road.
Quaint environment for outdoor dining amongst gorgeous English gardens. Attentive staff makes all diners feel special.
Excellent! Food excellent, staff super, site well kept, noise level. Great for conversation. Super busy this day but everything moved smoothly. Can t wait to go back! Items no more expensive than other nice places but you want to eat a lot of items! And, wine! So, it adds up. Worth every cent!
Excellent attention.
It is the best restaurant I have been to in a long time. We sat at an outside table by a section of the garden. The drinks were great try the house special. The food was delicious, great portions and more than enough to take home Chicken penni pesto was delicious. My husbands steak was hanging over the plate. My daughter had the gnocchi and son in law salmon. Desert was no disappointment the chocolate bomb and tarimisu was delicious. Would go back again.
Authentic Italian Gourmet Food, worth what it costs, exquisite All Food
Amazing food and service. Love the atmosphere - amazing outdoor area.
Fantastic food in an stunningly beautiful setting! Very reasonably priced considering the quality and atmosphere. Totally loved it.
I met friends here for dinner while in town. The service was top notch! Kudos to Christopher for taking such good care of us. The grounds are beautiful as well. The appetizers and main dishes were all amazing. The custard for dessert was not as expected, but the rest of the experience more than made up for it. I will definitely look for an opportunity to visit again.
We decided to visit this restaurant with friends and book a table outside. But when we called to reserve a table, the employee said that she could not book a table outside , first come, first serve . Also she promised to put in notes that we prefer a table outside . When we came to the restaurant on Saturday, there were several free tables outside , but the hostess said that they were booked. And when we asked how they can be booked if you do not book tables outside , she only answered Im sorry. This situation is just ridiculous and not really nice. The food was good, but the service was disappointing
Delicious food. (Fantastic TUNA special!) Excellent wait staff.
Very nice restaurant. Great food and atmosphere. Staff is average, a little attitude.
Busy, beautiful alfresco experience in Richmond,s WE. Not to be missed! Food experiences abound in Napa; New York; NOL; SAN; BOS & MIA but for us common of the Commonwealth; hard to beat! And having dined & worked in some this is really good for yall! No, South Side Chitown ; your SS boy did not forget my Chi-City best!
Always a wonderful meal, in a beautiful outdoor setting with superior service. Highly recommended.
Random brunch here w friends and nicely surprised. Patio was very comfortable and food was good but not 5 star. 3-4.... overall was a great couple of hours and would recommend.
Setting is really cool and the food is decent. I wish they could get the servers to be a little better. Food
We had a great visit for Fathers day. Food was delicious and the vibe is super chill. Staff was excellent. Weve decided to come back for a date night.
This restaurant was amazing. The food was fantastic and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Huge thanks to cora. Definitely appreciate the help.
Recently experienced Lunch with my family off of a recommendation from some friends as they had a great time. Restaurant is cute, great outdoor dining options along with a relaxing tone and atmosphere. Service was extremely poor for the sort of restaurant I thought it was - it took over 20 min to place an appetizer order and forget about refills, that didnt happen without prompting the manager. No check backs after food was delivered as some of us thought our food was oily and not up to the standard we initially thought the restaurant would be. Specifically, the baked spaghetti was very salty and too oily to be eaten due to the gross amount of cheese. Maybe we chose the wrong items or arrived at the wrong time for service levels (noon), but this was not the sort of experience I thought we were going to have. This may be the sort of restaurant suited for 60+ yrs old or for an after work beverage, but maybe not for a family lunch.
Went here for my birthday dinner and it was great. Food was absolutely delicious. We sat outside and the patio is so pretty. It was really busy and I can see why, definitely make a reservation.
Perfectly lovely lunch, solid food and a beautiful spot.
What an interesting little restaurant. We were definitely catfished by the Instagram posts. It has a very beautiful atmosphere with a nice outdoor garden. Minus the physical environment it definitely gave off country club vibes. Average age range appeared to be 45-75 years old and the food definitely fit the age range. My wife and I were definitely anticipating a fancy wine garden type of vibe and were very surprised upon finishing our meal. The food was subpar and equivalent to your local little mom and pop Italian joint but 1.5x the cost. We got the vodka pasta and the Bolognese pasta. Not bad but not what we were expecting for roughly $19 a plate. At that price point you would expect a little higher class when it comes to pasta. The portions were large but it still wasn t worth the price. I found it strange that they plated the food with a balsamic vinaigrette glaze for presentation. Seemed a little out of the ordinary. This is definitely the place you would take your wealthy grandparents out for dinner as they would fit in perfectly. Overall not a terrible experience but not worth ever coming back for. There are plenty of Italian and non Italian restaurants within the Richmond area that knock this restaurants pasta out of the water.
The restaurants patio is one of the best place to enjoy a nice Italian wine with thin crust pizza.. We tried their ravioli, pesto pasta and portico pizza. My fav was their pizza. Their dessert were also delicious.. They do have special on their menu and staff will brief about it well
Great food, nice place for celebrating.
Absolutely delicious food and wine, and fantastic service. It was the perfect location for a romantic date night. Parking: Our reservation was for 7:30, and we ended up having to park in a place that we werent allowed to because there was no other option! Kid-friendliness: Not what I would consider kid friendly unless theyre very well behaved (ours are not lol). Very romantic and the prices are more geared towards adults only. Wheelchair accessibility: Very wheelchair accessible and flat.
Our family was driving through this very quaint and lush residential neighborhood when we caught a glimmer of this restaurant out of the corner of our eye. We looked it up because if you know us, were always looking for new and exciting places to eat. We found that Portico is a gorgeous Italian restaurant with a surprisingly large indoor dining space and exceptional outdoor dining option. The ambiance is exquisite. They have a respectable bar and their menu, which may be seasonal, has quite the innovative menu with no shortage of delicious options. Their attention to details did not go unnoticed. The taste was refined and the presentations were spot on. We highly recommend this place for memorable and intimate family meal.
Its an old home converted into a restaurant. The food was excellent. The service was great (just off perfect as we had to ask for water twice, but really not a big deal). The reason to eat here is the ambiance. Cute is an understatement. From the huge windows opening up the main dining room, to the large patio with the detached fireplace - this is the perfect date spot. The outside is shaded which makes an afternoon date nice, but there is no room for a breeze. I would sit inside around noon. Well be back in the fall to test out the seating by the fireplace. The pricing isnt crazy either. Mains are around $25 and the specials were up to $40. What you would expect from an upscale, date-night venue. Dietary restrictions: Not great for gluten-free options. They have a GF penne pasta, but you miss out on all the good stuff on the menu.
The food was delicious and the atmosphere was amazing. This place has a gorgeous courtyard. And the service is awesome too.
Beautiful patio. Service was average. OBX Swordfish special was not good - Had the consistency of canned Tuna. My wife s eggplant puttanesca was so salty she could not finish it. Overpriced for what you get. Would not return.
It s hard to think of anything more that one could want from a restaurant experience at Portico. Really great rotating specials as well as solid pasta staples (esp their Hanover tomato burrata when in season, it is so delicious). 5/5 - a nice quiet lunch under shade with a dozing kitty nearby, what more could you ask for?
Overall good experience in the food was good. Very nice atmosphere. Both indoors and outside. Service was fine but not exceptional, which was a little disappointing given the price. We had a bottle of wine and spent around $140 for two people, before tip.
The sea food crepes were delicious but save room for the Lemoncello cake.
Quaint Italian restaurant on River Road with a full bar. We had 5:00 reservations and were seated promptly. Ordered a beautiful Chianti and some appetizers- small Caesar salad , the garlic baguette (this is a pass for next visit) and the portobello mushroom appetizer which was so flavorful I could have had it for dinner with the salad and be perfectly content. For entrees we ordered penne vodka, penne bolognese with meatballs (which were a bit spicy), baked spaghetti (!!), rosemary chicken, and lamb risotto. All were incredibly delicious and I finished my entire dish of baked spaghetti. Completely satisfying and not overly stuffed but we passed on desserts. An excellent choice if your in the Henrico area.
We love this place! Excellent, friendly service and absolutely delicious!!!
Its very pretty I love it
One our of favorite date night spots. The food and service never disappoints. And price is very fair for what you get. A bit of a drive from the city- but well worth it. We always try to sit outside because the patio is beautiful. And Porticat always makes an appearance!
We go here for the outdoor atmosphere. Service is okay, not great. The food is good, but not great.
Great pizzas!
I especially like the back patio area.
Have only been a couple of times, but enjoyed the look of the restaurant and the outside patio. Appears to be a converted house, nestled back in a treed area. Perfect for a date night and Id recommend ordering slowly to enjoy the experience.
Very Family friendly as a mom of 2 with a toddler and baby, I love the patio my kids were able to walk around while we waited for our food, staff and server was super friendly and kind, I loveee the mocktails I had the season change it was very tasty I ordered 2. Price was affordable for a family of four our bill came to $80 with appetizers. I would recommend very good food Kid-friendliness: I love the patio my kids were able to walk and run around in the back space
Always delicious food and good service. Wine selection is also excellent.
Great atmosphere, amazing food, incredible drinks! Wow, just wow. I will be back again!
Excellent atmosphere and attentive service. Drink orders were brought promptly. Kitchen service was also exceptionally fast. I sampled a friends fried artichoke appetizer which was quite flavorful. I had the burger and fries for my entree. It was definitely a cut above. The bun was fresh baked, most likely onsite. The burger was grilled perfectly to order with a well balanced blend of fat to lean. Produce was fresh and good quality. Fries were fresh cut and just crisp. Expansive bar and wine list. Parking: I had no trouble finding a spot upon arrival. Wheelchair accessibility: A gravel parking lot could make it challenging but not impossible.
This is my favorite restaurant in the Richmond area. The food is amazing. The team are on the ball and the building is so cute. Anddd to be honest for what you get it s not expensive at all. Love it
Beautiful setting, delicious food, and friendly servers Dietary restrictions: Im pescetarian and its always easy for me to eat here. Food : 5/5 |
Wait staff was top notch and the Rockfish was fantastic!
Delicious food and fantastic service!
The service is extraordinary. The food is exquisite. The atmosphere is warm & welcoming.
Food here is on another level, great staff great food
My sister and I treated our sister-in-law to a lovely birthday luncheon last week at Portico. What an absolutely great lunch and atmosphere. From appetizer to delicious desserts, we were in luncheon heaven . Not only was the food sumptuous, the wait staff went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed every minute of our stay. I look forward to another visit very soon. Liz Scott
We love eating here! The food is delicious and the cocktails are amazing!! Bethany was an amazing server!
Fabulous food and great service. We definitely
Good Italian influenced menu. Food and service, excellent.
Great food! Never disappoints
We have eaten here twice in the last month. The food is great, the service was excellent and the outdoor seating is amazing for cold-weather. If you like eating outside, this is the best place we have been to for cold weather outside dining. It was warm enough in the tent area near the fireplace to take our jackets off.
