The best Jamaican food ind the RVA hands down! Most authentic you will find. You will never be disappointed.
My girls and I dined at M&F Jamaican Restaurant on Saturday, September 28, 2024. We arrived right at noon. They were friendly and very welcoming. We ordered Chicken and Beef Patties, Plantains, Oxtails. Rice, cabbage, and Stewed chicken. The chicken, beef patties, and plantains were delicious. The Oxtails were good but was void of that Jamaican flavor. The servings were very large. Stewed chicken was good. It's a nice spot. The food is good but could be more seasoned. Great place to dine it's like going to Sunday dinner. . 😊👍😋❤️
Environment is cool. Curry chicken & bread is usually good when I visit. Not a fan of the drinks though. If I pay full price, I expect full cup. Won’t do that again.
I would like to say that I purchased the curry goat which was delicious in the way it was cooked, however the curry and spice was a little subtle. The goat was tender enough to eat and the curry color was there. I am aware curry is not extremely spicy, but I believe the flavor of spice should’ve of been enhanced. I also brought oxtails, and the oxtails tasted like it had been sitting in a steam table and had been soaking in the jerk juice, which was not great in the jerk flavoring, it had a more sweeter flavor and it over powered the jerk, which is surprising. It wasn’t strong enough. The goat was better than my oxtail if I had to compare. This is severely disappointing. This is hard because I love giving our community an uplift but the dissatisfaction in spice and the confusion in flavor was very surprising. I’ve eaten at Jamaican house all my life and have tried various other Jamaican food and cook them myself as a chef. I wanted to be taken to a place closer to Jamaica in my mind and was instead brought to a place tourism. I’m only speaking on the dishes I’ve had today and cannot speak on the many other options they had on their menu. I will be giving a second thought to trying other items because in hindsight maybe they had a bad day. If you would like to visit this place I say look the menu over very well. Give it a thought and please, ask how it had been before they cooked the item your purchasing. Chef BETYZ1st
I called the store to return this meal because the oxtails were tough and had a gamy taste to them and the goat was chewy as well and I was only told that they cannot refund me my money. I had to keep this meal that I spent that I paid 50 bucks for, wow wow . And also passed around to three different people that work at the restaurant. Thank you for responding to my post, but you are the first restaurant that I’ve ever been to that does not honor or stand behind their food. If you did, it wouldn’t have been a problem for me to return the meal if I did not care for it.
I stopped for a to-go dinner today for the first time and ordered jerk pork and oxtail with the usual sides of rice and cabbage. The young man who assisted me was very knowledgeable about the food and provided excellent customer service with a pleasant demeanor. Although I haven't had the chance to try the food yet, I'm looking forward to it and feel confident that it will be delicious based on the young man's recommendations.( Update on taste coming later )
I had an amazing experience at M&K Jamaican restaurant! The service was incredibly fast, ensuring that I didn't have to wait long to indulge in their delicious cuisine. I opted for the curry Goat, and I was blown away by how flavorful and tender it was. The portion size was more than sufficient, leaving me fully satisfied. I'm already looking forward to returning in the near future. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping by M&K Jamaican restaurant for a truly delightful dining experience!
What an experience! So boom I ended up here totally on accident because the location I wanted to go was closed and boy am I ever grateful that I did. Come to find out it was a location that I had frequented many times years ago and they disappeared and I couldn't find them. So I was happy to have that full circle moment 🥰 now on to the most important... *THE FOOD .. I ordered jerk chicken/curry chicken combo platter and when I tell you everything down to the rice and beans and the veggies were amazing. Fresh hot to order. I also ordered beef patty and cocoa bread and both were amazing. The cocoa bread was so fresh and warm and just melted in my mouth like butter. I also ordered the rum punch and it was perfect and pretty strong mix. *THE SERVICE... I was courteously greeted with a very warm welcome and I was provided with patients while I took my time to look over the menu and didn't feel rushed and I was made to feel like my needs were mad prior to moving on to the next customer. Outstanding customer service *THE ATMOSPHERE... Location was in a relatively fair but not very congested. The inside was very cute. Very homey and felt welcoming. Very clean. Loved it and I adore the fact that they do have an outside sitting area. I will come back to dine here again. I give it a 10 out of 10.
the jerk pork was very good and had amazing texture! i got a small but it was still a good for the price, i ate half my plate before i got full. the spiciness in the sauce was the perfect amount and tasted incredible, lots of flavor. the cabbage was my favorite! definitely gonna order again and try different entrees the woman who was working was also very sweet and welcoming! i love the atmosphere and energy
Used to be good but its really gone down hill. Portion sizes have gotten way smaller and the guy at the front is insanely rude.
I ordered a veggie plate the cabbage had no taste and the rice & peas were very dry and flavorless. The jerk sauce reminded me of barbecue sauce but overall the service was great and I loved my drink.
I was referred here, and it was so worth it. The food was delish, and there wasnt a long wait. Ill be calling in my order also. Nice eating area and pleasant employees!!! Parking: If you want curry shrimp...call it in to be sure they have some. I went late evening.
Great food! friendly staff! get you some curry and carrott cake you wont regret it!
I used to love M&F Jamaican Restaurant, but my recent visits have left me disappointed. The food portions have noticeably decreased, yet the prices have gone up. Its frustrating to pay more and get less, especially since the flavors are still good, but not quite the same experience as before. For the price, I expect to leave feeling satisfied, but lately, that hasn t been the case. I really hope they reconsider their portions and pricing because I miss the value that used to set them apart.
So, the chicken was burnt. Whoever grilled the chicken burned the chicken, and they covered it up with the jerk gravy. The oxtails had a lot of fat on them. The gravy, rice, cabbage ablnd beef patty were good. Poor parking and the inside is very small
The quality and genuine Jamaican favor... Coupled with the generous portions makes this place magnificent...
Carrot cake was fresh and delicious!
Everytime I come here the service and food is amazing. I love that they play Gospel music too!!! They are always so polite.
I am thoroughly impressed with this establishment. The cuisine is remarkably authentic and the portions are exceptionally generous. The staff are extremely courteous. I highly recommend it.
The guy with the high top fade working the front counter has terrible customer service skills. Even gave my food away to the wrong person even though he asked for my name. He was nice to the lady tho. Idk what his problem was but he made my experience completely terrible.
This place is an absolute gem! The food is fantastic, so is the service. Portions are plentiful.
Wow, I just had lunch here with my husband and everything was DELICIOUS. The cashier (I wish I got his name) was SO nice & patient while answering all of my questions and even recommended some items for us. We got the curry chicken & jerk chicken, which comes with red beans & rice + cabbage. We also got beef patty with coco bread because I never skip them if they re on the menu. Lastly for drinks, we got their house made freshly squeezed limeade and fruit punch - limeade is soooo refreshing and the fruit punch has a guava like taste which reminds me of drinks from Hawaii, would recommend both. Curry chicken was SO flavorful and the rice wasn t mushy and the cabbage was cooked perfectly. I liked mixing my cabbage in the curry and eating it with the roti. Roti also came with crushed chick peas and that elevated everything!!! Highly recommend getting the roti on the side. My husband said it would be good to make a burrito with the roti. Food was so fresh but it can take a bit to come out so I would either order ahead or just be patient! They used to be a food truck and now opened up a new spot. There s a parking lot in front of the restaurant and street parking in surrounding area. 10/10 would recommend :-)
This restaurant is horrible, I called for delivery they told me to order through toast, when I ordered for delivery the food said it was ready. I waited 45 minutes, I called inquiring about the order, they then said, the don t deliver from toast and I had to go and get my food. Why would you express for me to order the delivery service then say they don t deliver after I spent 45.00 on two items. When I called they were nonchalant and un willing to help me.
Consistent so far
I highly recommend M&F Restaurant ! If you love curry chicken, you would not be disappointed ! 10/10. The staff is very professional, kind, welcoming, and their establishment is very clean!
Normally I wouldn t complain or have an issue but I m tryna figure out why 4 small oxtails mainly fat is $20 , then the guy at the front like to joke around and play games all day I definitely won t be back for a while waste of money
Curry chicken was watered down and tasteless. Rice was tasteless as well, I didnt even bother to try the cabbage. Definitely a waste of money. We only tried this place because Carenas was closed.
Got a large Jerk Pork to go. It was mostly chunks of fat with a lot of gravy... what a waste of money. No Irie!!! Parking: Small lot less than 10 spaces
Cross the river for this one!! Everything was delicious!! I will bypass the three Jamaican restaurants close to me to cross the every time for this food!!!!
Pepper steak was delicious and tender. Patties were fair, not enough flavor, but the service was great. Food cooked to order and staff vert courteous. Great variety in beverages.
Great food, and lots of it. Easy and friendly experience. My family all split curried chicken and goat, and the jerk and fried chicken...and everything was awesome.
I love M&F ever since they first started out in the truck on Main Street! I had them for lunch EVERYDAY! Their food has NEVER disappoint. I ve tried other places and when I tell you the seasoning nor nothing is no where near authentic like this place I mean nowhere! BLESS UP M&F ! -Tiffany
Was the first time I went there got the oxtails the worst food Ive ever had no seasoning to it
This is the worst Jamaican restaurant I have ever encountered. The last TWO times I ordered from here they ripped me off. (The only reason I ordered this time is because the other Jamaican place was CLOSED) They charged me $35 dollars for this nasty skimpy platter. Also I ve asked them TWICE to not put cabbage on my platter because their cabbage is nasty as I don t know what and they STILL did it! You call yourself a restaurant?!? You re lucky I don t feel like coming back up there and getting my money back !!!! You all should be ashamed of yourselves! Y all ain t no Jamaicans!
The ox tail has no taste they were chop up and over cooked I purchased a large order has potato looking like ox tail
Juicy, tender jerk chicken and fresh moist coconut -pineapple cake. Plantains were sweet and perfectly cooked. Friendly service and big smile from Ms. Marie. They have a nice patio and a little bar. Cute spot for a relaxed date! Parking: They have a parking lot. It s a little tight but at least they have one!
I ve visited this restaurant 2 times in the past 3 months and i haven t been disappointed either time. Food was seasoned well. Portions were a nice size for the money. Staff was very friendly. Curry goat was tender. My friend had the Oxtail and said it was very tasty.
The jerk chicken & curry chicken are both really tasty! Customer service is awesome. We always have good conversation with the bartender!
The customer service was good, he s a hustler so watch your pockets Lol. Overall the restaurant was clean but the food was another story. I asked if the jerk pork & chicken was grilled I was told yes and that was not the case it was baked the chicken was dry. I received most of the back.. smh the rice was mushy. Im not trying to bash them, I m not from here so my taste buds are different being a New Yorker. It maybe good to some people just not me. Check it out for your self!
Love this place, the food and owners!
Drove 28 mins to this location all for their good truck not to be there. I ended up eating at a different food truck vendor who was at the site.
This was my first time eating Jamaican food and this was the worst experience. I thought jerk chicken is seasoned with jerk seasoning and cooked almost burnt that was the reason why I wanted to try it because I like burnt chicken this chicken was pink on the inside and had way too much sauce. Just yucky
Ill be returning.
Friendly fast service and loved the food. They even have a cute outdoor patio to enjoy the weather.
Food
They have Authentic flavors. Let me repeat... Authentic Flavors. I ate the Curry Goat and it was so good. Tender, good portion of meat, curry spice was the right kick and not watery. I cant wait to try other dishes. Thank you for the amazing food
This is my first time here and I ordered a veggie plate and a veggie patty and cocoa bread. The veggie plate was decent. I didn t really care for the cabbage and the jerk sauce had a nice sweet and spicy taste to it. The veggie patty crust was really good can be improved, but the bread was really good.
I contemplated writing this review but here goes....... On three different occasions I ordered Coco bread with one of the chicken, vegetable or beef patties and every time I visited I paid a different price. Today I went and ordered some food with a Homemade punch with NO ice, the cashier/ order taker brings my beverage with ice. I mention to him, I wanted No ice, his response was its not that much. I mention the no ice again, he goes back to doing something else. Smh, He did not change my drink!! Wtw. Parking: Its a few spots
Been trying this place out since it was in the truck. I love the curry goat, brown stew chicken, but had to remember after a third time not to order oxtail here. I hope it changed because I agree with the other review that mentioned the gummy extra chewy pieces, but I would need to try it off of someone elses plate. The drinks are always on point and the vibe is chill. I really hope the recipe gets better because this could really be the spot.
Great atmosphere had a great time highly recommend
Food was great and so was the service and atmosphere
My FAVORITE..a whole vibe
You must be from Jamaica Queens, NY because this is No Jamaican ANYTHING! I am Caribbean Folk. What are you doing in Richmond VA? Please, just stop it already. Stop the madness! Shame on you, you know this place is for people who know no better. Disappointing. If you are Jamaicans, regardless of who and where you serve people, you people are wrong for this. Do Better & Walk Good.
The food was not tasty, for an eight and a half size plate (not a large plate) I did not eat half the food. The rice was fresh, cabbage was bland, the oxtails were just okay. I really wish it was better because the people were very pleasant... it was probably an off day.
Service is a little slow as the spot is understaffed. However, the food and the kindness of the owner made up for the wait.
The man who answered the phone to take our order was super rude and claimed he was working in the kitchen at the time of placing the order. Then he got the order incorrect by leaving off a meal. 2 of 4 drinks were expired but didn t see this until we got home. Service isn t great.
The food was delicious. Authentic Jamaican.
Don t need the young guy at the counter you have too be a women too get good service. Never been treated or talked too liked never will go back
What a fun and delicious spot! Goat curry and roti was fantastic, house made rum punch refreshing, and chicken patty delicious. The coco bread is like a sweet soft dinner roll. Kind and fast service and fun casual environment. Check it out!
We loved it! We know the owners, and they ve strived to put forth a great product. The jerk chicken, with the rice & peas & cabbage, very good and delicious. If you re in the capital city of Richmond, visiting from out of town, stop by M & F, and tell them Ty Cool from Great Soul Radio sent you. Keep up the good work Marie & Fitz
Good food nice spot to have a cocktail Parking: BE VERY CAREFUL WHERE YOU PARK!!!!! THERE IS A TOW TRUCK ON STANDBY!!!! PARK IN DESIGNATED SPOTS...IF YOU NOT SURE ASK THEM INSIDE!!!!!! Food : 5/5 |
Love you guys. Best wishes Wheelchair accessibility: Yes it is. Food : 5/5 |
Change hard rice not all the way cooked 4 out of 10
My meal was very disappointing, I dont know if they had a different cook or what was going on this visit was just not up to par. I spent 60+$$ for touch beef and the brown stew chicken was red and was watery and tasted like BBQ sauce
First time here, my friend mentioned another location called Mamas was better, however being that this location was closer we decided to check it out. We bought the combo plate with Fried chicken and curry goat. The goat had good flavor however there was about 4 pieces of goat meat in the plate with lots of rice and gravy. That would ve been okay until I realized my white rice was parboiled rice- and if it wasn t, it sure tasted like it, which we couldn t eat. The fried chicken seemed fresh, still had crunch but was not dry. They threw some type of sauce on it which I didn t ask for, nor was it necessary especially because the sauce ( I hate to say ) is not good- tasted like it had a ketchup base, but was also tart ( so I wish I was asked before drenching my chicken in it ). To summarize we picked at the food and threw it out. Also charging $4 a can for Grace coconut water is top tier lol - we couldn t believe it lol
Great Jamaican restaurant with quality food and great service. A little on the pricey side but totally worth it.
Great spot with very good authentic Jamaican food. Chatted with the owner, who was delightful, while we waited for our food: jerk chicken, curried goat, plantains, and a beef patty. We will be back. You should go too.
: flavors are not there and over due the gravy to the point it was leaking in the bag.
It was okay. Got more carrots than oxtails in my container.
The food is TRASH I wouldn t even recommend this place to a homeless person. payed close to $60 for curry shrimp and oxtails for wifey. Curry is watery and has no flavor, cabbage is not seasoned and the rice is mush and last but not least WHO TF makes curry shrimp with the shells still on it . The meal will kill a dog if you fed this to it. This is what RICHMOND VA said was one of the best Jamaican restaurants around smh
Jerk chicken was not hot, more sweet but the cabbage and rice and peas were on point. I ordered the ox tails but you only get 3 in a small and 6 in a large for the price not worth it
I never give reviews but lord knows this place deserves it. Was greeted with a smile and patience being my nephew had no idea on what to order. He ordered the jerk chicken which is I ordered combo plate of jerk chicken and curry goat EVERYTHING was a missile!!! The rice and cabbage was perfect and then to top it off the homemade punch was top tier great food and great portions and great energy! Definitely will be returning!
I ordered curry chicken, didn t have any spice to it . I could barely taste the curry
The food was amazing! Highly recommend the Jerked Chicken. Only note is that the meat does have bones in it that you have to pick out, but I thought it was good enough to overlook that.
One of the best authentic Caribbean eateries I ve experienced outside of NYC or from my Caribbean family/friends. My favorites: petites, cabbage. Stew chicken. Oxtail. King fish. Fried sweet plantain. The staff is always really nice to me. The vibes and look of the place make me feel I m on vacation. I like to eat on the patio during the warm months. Very bright and welcoming!
The guy at the counter was very rude.
Food was average and slightly under seasoned. I had the shrimp curry/ cabbage/peas n rice. Would not order again.
I always have a great experience here!!! The food always tastes fresh and the owners/staff are always welcoming, polite, and friendly. The wait is never long.
Only visited while in the state. I recommend the jerk chicken. Not a fan of the sides, it was a little dry.
Dropped by for a quick lunch date. The food was excellent with very large portions and the service was impeccable. My new fave Caribbean food restaurant.
The food was really good only reason I am knocking it down one star I order Jerk pork and they didn t have any so I had jerk chicken instead. But HOT DANG was it good. This is 100% a Jamaican stop that you need to visit. It s a small place but they throw down.
Beautiful People Excellent Jamaican Food
First time here, wonderful! Came back a second time a few days later! Customer service is beautiful along with quick. Mac n cheese is so delicious!
Best Jamaican in Richmond!
Food was delicious
This is my first visit there since the Food Truck days. I m going to give them a call before I write this review. Edit: called and asked for Manager, I was told manager wasn t available, however, the guy that answered NEVER asked was there anything that he might can help me with. Here s my issue. I ordered Curry Chicken which was excellent, Oxtails which I can tell was sitting in some sort of prepackaged gravy, never again. Also, I m disappointed that the rice tastes just like prepackaged Uncle Bens rice or some kind of precooked prepackaged rice. I could tell because I can cook and comes from a family of cooks. Then too, I ve cheated using the same rice before except I rinsed mines off because it s sitting in salt and preservatives. This really messed up the dishes. The rice & peas is a huge part of the entree, therefore, I d probably never return. Plus it s deceitful to do that considering some of us , like myself have to watch out salt intake due to health issues. The coco bread and beef patty was good and fresh though. To the OWNER: you should probably correct this because you can t fool everyone. I never had this issue when you had the food truck in Shocko Bottom. I understand that you re doing MASS production, but the same thing it took to get your customers is the same thing it takes to keep them. Some of us can tell the difference in tastes between fresh cooked food oppose to prepackaged . And spent dam near $40 by the way. And one more thing, i almost left before I ordered anything because I saw one of y all OUTSIDE with your Apron on. A cook should NEVER wear their apron OUTSIDE of the cooking area unless you re simply serving a guest and going back in the kitchen Editing AGAIN after reply: I ve read through the comments after your reply (OWNER) I noticed, y all never take accountability when someone is disappointed in the food we ve spent OUR money on patronizing your establishment. But what I do know is that was the worse Oxtails I ve ever had and the WORSE rice and beans ever. In comparison to the Jamaican restaurants in this Richmond area. Sometimes it s a good idea to take the constructive criticism and try to make things better. You re basically saying, the ones that complain about unsatisfactory don t matter in comparison to the ones that didn t. Trust me, not everyone takes the time to review, but instead just won t return. I notice many people has also complained about customer service, Not once has it been addressed because it s obviously a problem. You have a Big Head attitude, based off your replies, very cocky. I can see you closing your doors sooner than later. God don t bless no mess Parking: Excellent location
Always a delight Marie is amazing Always smiling and welcoming
Good as always. The food is so good. Mouth watering and juicy. So good! Edit: 2024 They food is even tastier now!! I didnt even take pictures cause I was sooo hungry! I was so full after eating, I took a nap Parking: Its very limited parking...
One of my favorites! The food is always fresh and good.
My husband and I happened to find this spot via a Tic Tock video. The restaurant was clean and the music and decor transported us back to our trip to Jamaica. It is located in a great residential are surrounded by modern apartments. There is sufficient parking considering the moderately sized restaurant. It was clear we found a gem because there was a good amount of people coming in and out of the restaurant. We decided to try it while visiting our daughter in Richmond. The food was delicious! The staff were friendly and attentive. My husband had the large oxtails and loved them. The portion was a good size for oxtails. We also had coco bread and plantains. The coco bread was soft and fresh. The plantains were sweet, soft and had just the right amount of char from cooking. He had the fresh made fruit punch which was good but a tad to sweet to me, but he loved it. It reminded us of a rum punch without the rum. It is worth trying. I had a bottled ginger beer, which put American ginger beer to shame. I had the small island fried chicken. That was my mistake. I should have gotten the large. The small is really small but the taste was wonderful! I bought an extra side of the chicken because it was so delicious! My husband also bought some chicken to take home for dinner. So needless to say, it was delicious. The island fried chicken must be their own recipe because Ive never seen it on a Jamaica menu. It is battered fried chicken with a sweet and tangy ginger sauce. It is delicious! We will definitely be back the next time we are in Richmond!!
The oxtails, rice and peas, beef patty and the cabbage were DELICIOUS. I will be coming back to order again and again. Parking: Depends on what time of day you go Wheelchair accessibility: The doors seem wide enough for wheelchairs
Oxtail were very good. The ripe plantain was very good. Parking: Parking is available
POOR POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY, LONG WAIT FOR SUBPAR OVERPRICED FOOD
Update: Had a take out, goat was really tender, juicy and flavorfull. A small cozy place, ordered a drink and some wings for the starter but the waiter lost the main course order and he was too slow, on top of that it seemed understaffed. Only beers and liquor were being served though the menu has cocktails. The wings were really nice. Food tasted nice, but the service was really disappointing.
Delicious Curry Goat. I got a small takeout order, asked to skip the rice and have more cabbage instead. It was A LOT of deliciousness, both in quantity and in flavor
Curry chicken
THE BEST LIMEADE I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!
The absolutely best Jamaican food in the RVA.
Incredible food and great ppl!!!
Tried it out because Carinas and Jamaican House were already closed for the night. No one answered the phone for orders so I had to use the online ordering which was fine. There is a default tip and you dont want to leave a tip for a takeout order, you have to click custom and type in 0. When I got there, the counter staff person was very pleasant and the order was ready on time. The flavor of the food was very different from Carinas and Jamaican House and I found ithe oxtail (and rice and beans and cabbage) rather bland. Its the first time Ive ever ordered Jamaican food and still was hungry after my meal, which was surprising considering the price ($14+tax+tip). I probably will not go back.
The food was not good & seemed like leftovers, also the oxtail was in a disgusting graving not authentic Jamaican food at all 1/10 don t recommend.
They got a new regular
Giving 5 stars all around the board. Food was amazing! Very fresh tasting and great Flavor! Service was very pleasing. Complementary glass of water even though we got our own bottled drinks. Nice clean little spot! Def will be going back.
Vegetarian options: They have curry vegetables that are delicious. Kid-friendliness: The people are so nice.
Ive tried the pepper steak and the jerk wings and all I can say is well done!!! The customer service: OUTSTANDING!!!!!
I love me some Jamaica food! And i.have had from this location dishes..curry chicken, pepper steak, and the salmon dish. All were delicious and fresh even the cabbage is fresh!
Food was too high, wasnt seasoned all that well.. n cabbage was hard
Atmosphere was a vibe food hot and came quick to the table coco bread n patty was delicious
The food is great atmosphere very welcoming and it was extremely clean I highly recommend it in Jesus Name Amen.
If youre a die hard Oxtail lover or any other tropical Jamaican dishes Id give this place 5 stars the food is magnificent
Brought my granny here midday because she never went to any other Jamaican Spot other than Broad st. Let s try something new today!! The food came out in a timely manner. (If you want fast food go somewhere that s NOT cooking with LOVE) GOOD FOOD TAKES TIME. Oxtail s was amazing. The place was empty which was great because we got that 1:1 with the cashier. She was able to communicate an laugh & joke while we wait for our food. The bar is fully stock, outside sitting definitely can t wait to come at night.
The food was delicious. The restaurant was nice and clean. The people are great.
Absolutely horrible service. Do not spend your money here. These people took my money. I placed an online order. I came to pick up my order, the man told me that he could find my order it didn t come through, that they didn t know the password to the tablet and the person that does isn t here right now. So basically they took 35 dollars from me and refused to serve me even though I had the order confirmation. Spend your money elsewhere.
The food was absolutely delicious! I had the Jerk chicken, rice & peas and cabbage. Ive been in VA since 1990 and I havent tasted anything as good since I moved from NY.
The man up front very nasty. Their portion size is off. The wings are size of chicklets. Didnt want to issue a refund because he felt like it wasnt anything wrong with the food and there was no no refund sign up.
The food wasnt tasteful, chicken small Didnt want to refund never left the parking lot Food
Fire. Absolutely incredible. My fingers are stained with turmeric and I ve never been happier.
Food had great taste, but portion size is a bit ridiculous. I had the curry got but what I thought was the meat section was actually rice covered with gravy and a couple of pieces of goat spread across. Again food was tasty but all I had was rice a d gravy. The location is clean and nice. Service is friendly!!
Food was decent! Beef patty was phenomenal. Got the oxtails and curry chicken. Only issue was the gentleman upfront. He had a horrible disposition and it was clear that he didnt want to be at work. We all have bad days but no need to come off as indifferent to your customers. Potentially might return.
Curry chicken platter was all that and the pineapple coconut cake. Mannnnnnnn !!!!!!!
The Worst meal I had for Fathers Day. The meat was fatty, Gravy was not fresh taste like beef stew, not Jamaican taste at all. Cabbage was not seasoned. Will never come back BAD BAD BAD
Food is amazing. Please support so they stay in the area. If you love Caribbean food, it s a must frequent.
It was the worst oxtails I have ever eaten. Made me sick. Nice looking place will fool you. Dont try it.
Parking: Parking was a little tight Food
I came all the way from Newport News which is and HR away to try this food I saw on Instagram #blackownrestaurants. I tired the island chicken didnt like it the sauce was very good but the chicken was dry. I had cabbage that wasnt season no salt or pepper was absolutely no season, cabbage was so white. The rice and beans was dry. The portion size was okay Ive been to other Jamaican restaurants where a small still looks large and you have left over. Eating half plate is eating majority of the plate. The owner asked was I full already I told him that I didnt like it, but it was okay cuz I had plan to give to my son at home. He asked me was there anything else I like to order an that it was on him I picked curry chicken. That curry chicken was popping!!!!!! My appetite came back I was going in, it was everything it was suppose to be flavorful juicy tender meat I didnt taste and heat if there was it was very low. The cabbage was still plan an rice an peas still dry. The mango ginger slush . I really think its base on the cook with that said I would try another day for someone different cooking. Im thinking the young man who was bringing the food out was the cook. he would bring it to the cashier and cashier would point an say its for so an so just give to them. each order he would give to cashier when he could ask who food it was. I dont think the cashier was trying to leave his post.
My first time ,I really enjoyed the meal.
Great food when I visited, friendly staff, all around a great experience. I d recommend and come again!!
I been following Mr. Fitzroy and his family since they had their food truck by the Richmond Amtrak station. I m so excited they have a brick and mortar by VCU campus. I am from NYC original but have lived in Va since 2003. This is the best Jamaican food in VA hands down. This is also my top 2 choice in the entire world. Only second to a restaurant I go to in Flatbush Brooklyn. Mr. Fitzroy and family are passionate, consistent, hardworking and honest! They don t compromise when it comes to their business. If you re Jamaican or just used to authentic home style food, cooked to perfection with love this is where you need to go!!! My personal favorites: oxtail, cabbage, strew chicken and sweet plantains. You re welcome!!!!! Light, beautiful, clean, relaxed atmosphere. This food makes you dance while you eat and keeps a smile on your face the entire day! Go and and enjoy!!!!
Loved the food.... service was ok. Tried to order the next day for online delivery 2 blocks away. After 4 hours I gave up and went elsewhere...
I live a block away so if Im hungry its a easy place to get my fix. But I swear the chicken continues to be DRY!!!
I think I have tried every Caribbean Restaurant in the city of Richmond. From Jamaica House, Queens, Carenas, Irie Ting, etc. This spot here is a breath of fresh air. Their cooks prepare authentic Caribbean dishes. Not this new water down mess. If you love Caribbean food like I do, you have got to give this place a try .
The best Jamaican dishes!!
Very nice and clean restaurant. Great service and employees. Food did not taste good to me. I got oxtails, cabbage, jerk wings, and mac n cheese. Wings and Mac was pretty good, but oxtail and cabbage was a no. There are better tasting jamaican spots in the area. I wont be back. You may like it so please try!
Best Jamaican food in town. Authentic, delicious and the service is very friendly. Cheers !
If you want a taste of Jamaica this the spot! Amazing food and hospitality coming from a yaaad man this fye
When we went it there was no one there but the place was very clean, orderly and service was friendly. We loved the food and will be going again.
Youll love it here!
Great food great drinks

I was looking forward to my first Jamaican meal in Richmond. I am sad to report that the amount of sodium made my meal inedible. I am still searching for that illusive balance of a good meal with less sodium.
The dishes are pretty well priced for the amount they give you and the food is pretty good. It came out pretty quick when the restaurant wasn t busy, but I enjoyed the rice and cabbage with the sauces for both the jerk chicken and fried chicken. It is about 17 for a large platter with tax but the small ones are range to about 15.
I ve patronized M&F Jamaican for years as I enjoy their food. However, their customer service needs serious improvement. I recently visited and inquired about a menu item that I was unfamiliar with. The man at the cash register laughed in my face and mocked me for asking a simple question. I m disappointed and M&F has lost a customer. I will instead patronize other local restaurants who have the common decency to respect their customers.
Service was excellent. The curry goat was dry. Jerk chicken was quite good. And the oxtail was decent.
My total came out to 40 dollars I got a box of ox tail bones no meat on em no fat was 3 with little meat and 3 with non thing the rice had no taste like the cabbage so it was a waste a drove a hour for bones
Great vibes, clean establishment, warm staff and great background music. A must visit if you are in the area!
Customer service is awful terrible lady at the front counter is the rudest .
Unprofessional establishment. Fails to actually listen and quite rude. Contacted this establishment to place an order. The guy on the phone mustve pretended to take the order because when the order was picked up. It was not ready, and had to replace the order. However, ensuring that the ticket was already with the chef. While printing out a new one to hand to them. Noticed the order was wrong when I left. Reached back out only to have the same person argue with me about what I ordered because that ticket somehow placed my order and was paying for it.. Dont waste your time.
This is a must try if youre in the area! Start with the jerk chicken, but I dont think you can go wrong with any item on the menu. One of the best spots in Richmond!
First and last time here, the food was trash. Sorry but I told yall I would review the food when I ordered. Chicken, rice and peas was dry and the jerk sauce was weird. Also the cabbage had peas, corn, and carrots. No seasoning just sugar. ** BTW I did not finish my food.
Love it here!! Everything!!
Everything was fantastic from the minute we walked in. Our server was kind and very friendly. I had the brown stew chicken and curry goat and my husband had the stew beef. Both meals came with a generous portion of cabbage and rice and peas. All three meats were cooked perfectly. Seasoning was spot on and not overly salty. The macaroni and cheese and beef patties we got as starters were fantastic as well. Not to mention he knows how to make some rum punch! We will definitely be back, gonna save room for dessert next time!
Where do I start the rice wasn t done, curry chicken was dry fruit punch was 6.00 for a cup of syrup never again will I go there oh over price 7.00 for a kids meal
When i go to jamaican restaurants I do not expect good customer service! not only is the customer service fantastic, but the food is delicious! I got jerk chicken and curry chicken and they were both really good.
The food was nasty also over charge me.
Jerk chicken and plantains we re delicious staff was nice and place was clean will be back!!!
Great atmosphere. Quick service and very tasty meals. Good portions! Nice to have more unique variety over other restaurants while being much healthier like a traditional home cooked meal. You should really give them a try. If I was in walking distance Id eat there frequently. Parking: Parking can be limited. Handful of dedicated spots. Some street parking surrounding blocks. Worth the extra walk. Wheelchair accessibility: Entry door opening is not accessible. Door lip is accessible ready.
Chicken was very dry and Jerk sauce taste like a spicy bbq sauce for the money spent the food was not good
1st time. Great food. Clean facility & personable service. Will try again for my Jamaican taste
Love me some jamaican food and this place is Awesome! My oxtail with rice, peas and patty was !
All I can say about everything is wow ! Food was on point, environment was super clean. Really nice down to earth people. Food : 5/5
The food was delicious and the services was awesome.
Delicious food and kind servers
The ambiance of this establishment was nice but this was some of the worst Jamaican food I have ever had. The rice seemed to be some sort of parboiled Uncle Ben s type of rice and it just was not authentic. I ordered the goat and it was extremely tough and overpriced. I have received better food in the area for way less and the money is not the issue as I am aware everyone s prices are different; however, I would like to at least have some authentic food for the price. As an avid Jamaican food lover, I was very disappointed with this dish from M&F.
Disappointed and disgusting! We ordered King fish and Island chicken. The fish was tough, the rice was mushy and the cabbage was soft. Is this king fish or shark? They should be ashamed to sell such garbage! NEVER AGAIN! One and done! A total waste of money! Edit: I grew up eating Jamaican food in New York and never had dry King Fish before. I also see other reviews stating there is a No Refund sign posted, so why bother. No worries, I just won t eat there ever again!
Love these People! I have gone to their Cart for Years before they posted up at this location! Great spot for Lunch or Dinner if you want some AUTHENTIC Jamaican Food! I suggest the Small Jerk chicken, with Rice and Peas and Veg, with a Patty and Coco bread.. And you ABSOLUTELY MUST Try their Homemade Punch.. Its to Die for!
Highly recommend!!!!! Food, service and atmosphere was awesome. Authentic Jamaican food. The rum punch was the best I ever had. The goat roti and the oxtail were delicious. Great portion sizes.
Great taste and very friendly.
Worst Jamaican food ever and service.
Omg !!!! I always love this place. Everything is always fresh and good. And the customer service is always an enjoyable experience. Every-time I call in I get upsold because the energy on the other end is so welcoming I can never say no. Tonight I m enjoying oxtails, jerk wings and some good ol pineapple coconut cake
I had jerk chicken with rice&peas, also got a sorrel. Although the food was good, I wouldnt say this is authentic Jamaican food. But its one out of two Jamaican spots out here where the food is at least a lil close to what Jamaican food is supposed to taste like. The sorrel I couldve done without, was a lil too sweet for my liking but it was decent enough to finish lol. I give it a 7.5/10 and thats only cause of the sorrel, otherwise if just the food itll be 8/10.
Thier.oxtail was bland it tasted like it was not marinated in wet seasoning or seasoning at all .There was no love put into it. I call and let them know he said my taste buds was off. It was also dry the curry goat was dry too. I have had there food before it was delicious but as of lately they fell off.
Small cozy place. Friendly staff, excellent service.
