Sushi & Hibachi restaurant. A wide range of dishes with cocktails and international beverages to pair with them.
For me, this place is actually a solid 4 (they have vegan options, but a lot of the food is greasy), but my non-vegan friend really likes it, plus the algorithm is cruel, so I'm giving it 5 stars anyway. Been here 3 times now. They never seem to be very busy, just a few other patrons, but the service is good and I like the decor (walls are plastered with anime pictures). Apparently the non-veg food is really good, this is one of the few places where my friend will actually eat his whole dish, and he seems to really love it. They have a few hot vegan dishes, but they're all fried in oil, so I'll probably just stick to the veggie sushi from now on.
I had an awesome time here with the wonderful service that was provided. I was fortunate enough to go to one of their omakase seatings, and I genuinely had some of the best toro I've ever tasted for a long time. The cuts of fish are amazing and it feels like a high end new york sushi joint. 10/10 would come again.
It's such a nice spot to eat! The atmosphere is very nice. The restaurant is decorated in Ghibli, Ukikyo-e, etc. Food presentation is spot on. Our server was very attentive and sweet. Thank you for a wonderful meal! We got the Takoyaki, Osaka Roll, Pork Katsu Don, and Chicken Hibachi. We also got the white peach soju!
The restaurant is cute. The decor is relaxed and there is a lot of seating. Stopped in for lunch while at a conference. There was only one server, so service was a little slow, but she was great. They have good lunch prices and options. This is a good choice for a tasty bite and good sushi.
Good food first and foremost. The service was not the best. We think our waitress literally just forgot about us after bringing waters and menus. We waited patiently for a while then we saw her getting orders from other tables that came after us and they started getting apps, so we flagged her down to order and she seemed shocked we never ordered? So we order and get drinks but she rarely comes to our table we only see her when she brought us drinks and part of our order. We had to flag her down for napkins/chopsticks. We got some food from the hot kitchen and some from the sushi area. She brought out my partners entree from the hot food came out first and then she was gone. Another server brought out our sushi and mentions she left for the day; but that turned out to be a blessing. Next guy was great! Checked in on us, refilled my water that had been empty since the beginning of when we got there; he really saved the night! He's the reason we're down to give this place another chance, we just won't do it when the first server is there
A great spot for dinner! We tried four of the chefs rolls- The House Nami roll, Volcano, Emperor and Geyser. They were all delicious and each had a unique taste. The toro sashimi was also very good, but probably wouldn’t spend 12$ on it again. The place wasn’t overly busy on a Saturday night and had a cool vibe- our favorite being the tiny sushi on TV and the comics on the walls. They served an IPA on draft as well as Kirin Ichiban Stella and Shock top!
Solid sushi. They actually have good toro fatty tuna included for the regular sushi dinner. Fast and friendly service. Good vibe. Sashimi dinner deluxe also had very generous portion and delicious selection.
Came in for lunch during their soft opening and was warmly welcomed. The atmosphere is very inviting and so was the waitress and sushi chef! I got the Volcano Roll and Spicy Girl Roll and would recommend both they were so good! Will be coming back for sure.
Everything is spectacular. Best meal in town. Excellent service. Fresh authentic and worth every penny.
Best chicken hibachi! Best customer service! !
Best sushi location in RVA. Compared to other places, the density and quality of fish they have in their sushi is much better. Also, the interior decoration is wonderful and adds to a great atmosphere. They recently just opened up an omakase bar on the second floor which has amazing fish quality.
One of my favorites
Loved it! Please add entrees with tofu!
Place is super adorable! Anime based and a little on the smaller side. The Luffy roll was amazing! Steak was a little over cooked for medium rare. But will absolutely go again.
I just got back from Japan, and Nami s sushi is comparable to some of the best I had in Japan. Delicious and fresh, great presentation, and excellent service. We ll be back next week!
Happened upon the place and stopped in for a beer and snack. It was wonderful! Food
This place has a nice vibe. Service was decent to start, but when we ordered drinks, we asked if there was a full bar, and the server said that they have alcohol, but they don t really do drinks It s mostly for shots. Which may be an indicator of the VCU crowd that goes in? We each ordered a roll and a salad, and the salads came out at different times, no big deal. The seaweed salad was the same seaweed salad you get anywhere. However, after about 25 minutes, the server came out and apologized because the rolls had not come out. But he said they were just about ready to come out. After another 10 minutes my wife and I were watching the clock because we had to get to a show at Richmond music Hall we realized that we just needed to cut losses. So I said, if the server walks by one more time and doesn t say anything about our food, we ll just get the check forour beers and our salads and bail. So next time he walked by, he ignored us, and so I hailed him and said we needed the check for what we d used. He said oh but they re plating your food right now And I just politely insisted that we re ready to pay for what we ve had and we need to leave. So he brought us that check, we paid and we won t be going back here. One other thing: my wife had a good view of the kitchen entrance where our server kept going in and out, and a couple of times saw him stand there with his hands all over his nose and his face and then he d go get food and bring it out to guess. And that s just gross. I m glad we didn t let him touch more plates that he brought to us. The place was really busy, which tells me that it must be pretty popular I m sure the sushi is good if you ever actually get it.
I had a sushi deluxe and yellowtail jalapeño. The sushi and sashimi exceeded my expectations . Im looking forward to returning to try another dish.
Such a cute place!! Cozy :) we recommend the sweet chili wings
good sushi but charge for spicy mayo hahaha whattttt
Great Sashimi and Special Roll from Chef. I want to come back again.
Deliciously crafted sushi, in a beautiful historic building. Wonderful!
Amazing food! Perfect meal when craving authentic Japanese
Loved it! Service was excellent, and the fish was fantastic quality! So cute and vibey in there. Definitely want to go back to try the non-sushi options. Only minor thing was the rolls were pretty small, still a great option for a local sushi spot!
The exterior and interior design were phenomenal, as was the food and service.
UPDATE: AVOID AT ALL COST, DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! After reviewing the other low rating on this site, the owner is terrible and allows customers to be overcharged so he can see how employees will handle their mistakes I honestly cant believe it, you mam/sir are a terrible owner and you cant even deliver half decent food. Do NOT go here, find something else, these types of businesses should fail so that something better can replace them. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Southern Virginia is home, but Ive had the pleasure of living elsewhere for over a decade. I shouldnt compare the quality of Richmond sushi to LA sushi...entirely... But positives first: 1. The sashimi cuts are 7/10 and good size, ours was a good level of fatty and buttery, but had a bit more of a fishy taste than it should have. 2. Pricing is decent...but this is also the downfall. At these prices for a roll I should be saying everything was at least 8/10...but... Negatives: 1. Sushi rolls were a middling 6/10, not bad, not good, decently presented. Volcano roll was underwhelming at best and the texture was concerning at minimum....but at almost 20 dollars a roll, I should be saying this was a 8/10 roll. 2. Edamame was HEAVILY and UNEVENLY salted, this is a quick and easy fix, but as it was the first item that came out and I literally had to dust over the pile of salt on some pieces (with little to no salt on most) unacceptable. 3. Booths: the booths are unevenly situated from the tables, and quite far away.... With a rating of 4.5 I expected much better, do yourself a favor, there has to be better sushi in the richmond area...if not Richmond...you can do better...you deserve to do better.
I wanted to find something convenient and close to the Delta Hotel. This place was only a 5 min walk and a good place for sushi.
Chicken katsu was old and soggy. It looked and smelled bad. Waiter could take one look and see it wasnt right but still served it. Dishonorable service
Nami has some of the best gyoza I have had outside of Japan. They are offered steamed or fried. Definitely try them fried, which isnt deep-fried, but rather pan-fried and deliciously crispy on one side, while the other side is steamed. Our server and the sushi chefs were very patient and explained the fish options to me. I had a sushi entree and everything was incredibly fresh. Many place in the US serve large nigiri, which need to be eaten in two bites. As an FYI, Namis nigiri are bite-sized; each one can be eaten whole as is traditional in Japan. The atmosphere was laid-back, and though it isnt an izakaya, it had that kind of casual vibe. I cant wait to go back! Parking: Street parking was easy to find.
Excellent service and some really fresh sushi rolls. Prices a smidge on the high side, but its right downtown so thats to be expected.
Chicken Katsudon tasted like it wasn t fried properly I could taste the flour and like I was eating undercooked slop. Sushi was meh and for prices that was you would expect to be premium food.
Wanted to love this place but, the sushi was not fresh or good in any way. We had the godzilla roll, the flaming dragon roll, the o.m.g. roll and the fried oysters. All were well below average.
I ordered the hibachi salmon for take out. This was my first time eating here. It was also close to closing time and they still took my order which I thought was very kind of them. My meal was delicious! The soup was great too. I didn t care for the salad because they gave me all lettuce literally a container full of it with ginger dressing! I will definitely return just hope it s an actually salad next time around!
Nice food, spectacular decor, and attentive service. Highly recommended.
If I could put 0 stars I would. Ordered a steak and chicken hibachi for the price of 28.95 like their menu states. The waitress messes up my order and only puts hibachi steak. She brings out a plate for the chicken that was suppose to be with my order. Received my receipt with a charge 38.56 due to them ringing up hibachi steak and a side order of chicken for 6.99. The waitress stated the owner will not fix it because the amount of steak and chicken that I received was too much. I paid for my meal(38.56) but I do not recommend going to this spot. They might try to over charge you for a mistake that was not your fault. Also, the sushi was mediocre. See attached images for number one bullsheet.
Try the hibachi and sashimi, never disappointed.
Food is made with passion and the atmosphere is great here! Love it!
Service was horrible
Went here to celebrate a birthday, we were not disappointed!
This place was so adorable and the food was great! Due to dietary restrictions, I cant have much rice, so I asked for a Philly roll without rice, which is a strange request, Im sure haha. They did a great job! Dietary restrictions: They were willing to alter the sushi roll to fit my needs. Thank you!
Ive been dying for Japanese food with quality and I am so lucky to have found Nami. I cannot fully express how amazing their food is the atmosphere and the staff are! I am excited and happy with each visit and if its even possible to say I always leave happier and with a satisfied stomach. Vegetarian options: As traditional Japanese cuisine they have plenty of veggie options that dont use any type of animal well as other dishes
Whether I am dining in or picking up, the food is always fresh and delicious and the staff is super friendly!
Food is amazing, staff are kind, service is fast! Very pleasant owners,
Love this place. The food was fabulous! So happy to have these guys in the neighborhood.
Nice vibe and music. Very well seasoned fried rice. Hibachi scallops and shrimp were cooked perfectly! Gyoza was freshly fried, great experience.
Very tasty rolls. Great service.
Guys I just moved here from LA and I have been struggling to find QUALITY SUSHI for so long!!! I am in heaven I could cry happy tears. I had the sushi regular with 7 pieces of nigiri and a California roll. It was PHENOMENAL.
A wonderful sushi bar and restaurant in a very convenient location. (Where 3rd Street Diner used to be, and good riddance to it!) Affordable options, good portions, and very friendly service!
The food was so delicious and the service it s 5
This is a real gem of a sushi spot in downtown RVA. Sushi was top quality, service was excellent, and the place is just really cute. Will definitely be back!
small rolls, not very flavorful. I have had better from a supermarket.
Dont judge this book by its cover. Excellent sushi and great atmosphere! Trust me weve tried ALL the sushi places in the RVA. Hands down best sushi and best prices! The staff is friendly and attentive. We go there every week for Sushi Sunday! See you tomorrow
Surprisingly awesome. Give it a try.
Oh where to begin. My wife and I went on a date there, it was dead the whole time. Normally thats not a bad thing, but it was eerily quiet so conversation was a little awkward. The waitress comes back with drinks, we order the takoyaki because its cold out, and a hot appetizer sounds lovely. Then we wait. And wait. And wait. Eventually the waitress comes back and asks what wed like to eat. I order the Spicy Kani roll (i would have gone with the chef special crab roll but I dont like avocado) & the Spicy Salmon roll. My wife orders her roll with a side of seaweed salad. Notice at this point I havent said we received the takoyaki. We just kinda assumed the order was never placed and were happy to just not have it at this point, but more on that later. As soon as the waitress leaves with our order, she returns with just the seaweed salad. No rolls, just the seaweed. It was so quick theres no way that salad isnt pre-made ahead of time, and my wife was very clear that she wanted it with her sushi, but whatever. We laughed it off. Then the rolls came. My Kani roll, despite the menu not mentioning it, was half avocado. Meanwhile, the Spicy Salmon roll (which does list the roll as having crunch) was mostly crunch on the inside. It was like someone took tempura breading and blended it with the smallest amount of Salmon and aoli. I realize these are cheaper rolls than the chefs special, but for the same price I could have gone to whole foods and gotten something better out of their refrigerator. But fine. Im determined to have a good night. I wont let this bother me. What happened next is what made me leave this review. After both entrees, our appetizer arrived. The Takoyaki was visibly burnt, and the waitress apologized for the wait. OK, maybe they were still tasty, so I tried one. It was still so searingly hot on the inside when it reached our table that my eyes teared with pain. And even though it was burnt on the outside, it was still incredibly underdone in the middle. A soft, gooey dough like texture. Ive realized since that the only way that could have happened is if the Chef realized he never cooked the order, cranked up the heat, dipped them in the fryer until they started to burn, assumed they were cooked, and immediately sent them out, resulting in a burnt but undercooked and painfully hot takoyaki. It was dangerous in many ways. If you want sushi, theres so many great places in Richmond. Dont go here.
This is hands down the best sushi restaurant in Richmond. I dont know where they get their fish, but it is beautiful and delicious. Loved every second of being here, loved the food, loved the feel of the place. Oh, and the kawaii tiny food videos playing on the TVs were perfect and please never stop.
Great size portions and reasonable prices
This is the only sushi restaurant in Virginia I will be going to now, you have my word. The sushi chef was warm & knowledgeable. Excellent use of the old 3rd st diner spot, That place was in desperate need of a deep clean that it only got once it closed. Thanks a bunch thanks for lunch
i just called and tried to place an order to -go and the girl who answered was extremely rude. before calling i attempted to order online but it wasn t working right so i called and the girl told me i could order online and i told her it wasn t working and then she said oh bye and i said am i able to place an order and she said uh no you can call back bye i was baffled and said what kind of service is that and she just hung up i own restaurants so i know what it s like to be busy and short staffed, especially, these days so your customer service skills have to be on 10 in order to still provide the customer with a pleasant experience even if there are longer wait times. all she had to say is that apologies, but we re not excepting take out orders right now. you can try again later if you d like and i would ve simply said okay and went about my day but i m so good off this place now. i was looking forward to trying them out but i m completely turned off and will not be giving them my business.
Excellent dinner!! I will be back next time I am in the area!
Walked to get late night sushi last night since their hours were listed they were open until 11:30 on in their website, google, and Apple Maps. We show up at 9pm to an abrasive staff telling us the kitchen is closed but we could still get sushi. We said that was fine and went to the bar. I also mentioned their listed hours and they claimed they didn t know..? Employees start hovering around us, one with a baby in her arms specifically, who is telling us to do a to-go order. It was incredibly uncomfortable and overall weird vibe. We didn t order anything and left. I m an understanding person when it comes to the service industry but we were treated like pests by this place, completely unprofessional. Won t be going back.
Small, but cozy with friendly and efficient service! Food was great too! Vegetarian options: They had good options for vegetarians. My favorite was the sweet potato rolls! Food : 5/5 |
Arrived at 8:15pm (they closed at 9:30 that night) and wanted to get something quick and hoped to be out before 9, as we had tickets to an event next door. There were two other tables with couples in the restaurant at the time, so they werent slammed busy. We figured we could get something relatively simple and quick; seaweed salad and a few simpler sushi rolls. It was 8:55 before we even got the seaweed salad, which is usually pre-made, and literally just gets plopped in a bowl. As we watched the time tick on, we debated whether to just leave or stick it out, and I wish we had left. The seaweed salad had a weird almost spicy taste to it that Id never had before, and the sushi was incredibly mediocre, not to mention so loosely rolled that it was difficult to eat. We got our rolls finally at 9:05 and we were out by 9:15, which was unfortunately too late for us to make it to our plans literally next door. The prices werent exorbitant, but they were higher than most other casual sushi restaurants Ive been to, and with the quality of the service combined with the really mediocre food, I certainly wouldnt return and cant recommend this restaurant.
This is the best Japanese food/sushi I ve ever had in my life. The sushi was so fresh and perfect tasting, the fried rice was amazing, along with the gyozas. The atmosphere is anime themed, but also really cute and chill. I will definitely be back.
Arguably the best sushi in town Ive tried A LOT of sushi in RVA and this is one of the few solid places to get it and the hibachi is also very good. The service on the sushi rolls was a bit slow but otherwise the staff was friendly and attentive. All around a good experience I would recommend for anyone looking for this style of food. Dietary restrictions: They even had gluten free soy sauce and gluten free options! I am celiacs and have had no problem anytime I get the sushi here I dont think they do the hibachi gluten free but the sushi is fantastic!
Service was very good but the sushi wasnt anything special. Sashimi I got was oddly cut, and one piece had something fibrous that couldnt be chewed. I havent been impressed with any sushi Ive had in Richmond, but I expected something better here, especially for the price.
I liked it. If I am ever back ill definitely come in for some more sushi. The staff was friendly.
Great foods!
Amazing SUSHI!! MY go to in Richmond for the best sushi! Always fresh, presentation is excellent and service is prompt
The most delicious hibachi and sushi in town! The sushi chef made mine custom without seaweed (soy paper instead). Not a huge sushi person in general but this place does it right!
Tasty meal, great service & atmosphere
Hands down some of the best food I ve had in RVA! Service was amazing, we will be back soon!
Definitively the best sushi in Richmond. Having tried 10+ other local spots, only one comes close to the quality you will get at Nami. The sushi chef has exquisite knife skills and perfectly blends craftsmanship and flavor with their fresh fish. The sushi at Nami is not just sushi, its an experience. Its not cheap, but you get more than what you pay for. Its a roller coaster of umami pleasure -- a thrill with every bite. Want to introduce someone to sushi? Go to Nami. Want a transformative dining experience? Go to Nami. Want to taste the millimeter difference in how fish is precisely cut? Go to Nami. I have never ordered from their kitchen. Only the sushi bar. And that will never change because the sushi here is heavenly. One of the best sushi chefs amongst visits over 200+ sushi restaurants globally from $$ to $$$$$+$ P.S. The plating is also gorgeous, but by the time I remember to take pictures, its usually all gone.
One of my friends recommended NAMI to me, tried Toro and some special rolls, love the luffy roll! The server is friendly and the foods are fresh, will definitely come back!
Great vibe. Great value. Friendly service. Would definitely go again.
Slow service, loose rolls, thin slices of fish. Go to katana for great sushi.
The best Japanese restaurant in Richmond! The chicken hibachi is my fav because is so tasty an delicious, also the sushi is so yummy
If your a Richmond native, then youll know this place is located in the old 3rd Street Diner spot. Sad that 3rd street is gone, but this is a great new addition to this location. We very much enjoyed the layout of the place. Lots of anime pictures and most Japanese versions. They had a number of TVs playing anime shows and 1 was playing a miniature food cooking show. Staff was very friendly. Got to pick our own seat. Our waitress seemed a little forgetful, would ask us a question and then forget to get what she asked about, but she was super peppy and nice. We got a few specially rolls. Spider, Tokyo and Dragon. My daughter liked the Spider the beat, but all were good. It was her birthday, so they gave her a nice sized fried ice cream, on the house. Thanks! They have a decent sized bar area. We enjoyed it very much and would go again. Dont know if its normal, but got a bunch of stickers with the bill, which was cool.
The food and service I loved
I ordered a poke salad and was disappointed with the portion for $10.99. Flavor wise, it was on point, but I was expecting more fish nonetheless; I suggested they add lettuce since it was listed under salads. My husband ordered the chicken katsu don and that was a hit! I also ordered takoyaki for the first time and was pleased with the portion and price. Poke lovers beware I suggest you get poke elsewhere; lots of other places to get more bang for your hard earned bucks!
the flavor is good and the sushi is decently fresh. The portion is surprisingly small, and Im someone who frequently has leftovers. I dont always remember feeling like it was this small, so maybe its a new thing. Otherwise pretty good. I would rather it have been a couple dollars more expensive and satisfying than small portion size.
Need some facelift, food was ok service ok and fast
We are from California and came to Virginia for a karate competition My son wanted sushi so we stopped in to check it out I didnt want to get my hopes up about this place but I have to say the sushi was delicious The rice had a buttery taste to it that made it even more better Ive never had sushi like that before.
Food and service were great! Got Gyoza pan fried, hibachi and sushi and everything was delicious.
Thankfully we stumbled upon thus restaurant while in Richmond recently. Everything was amazing, the o toro was fresh and the fried rice was the best weve had! We will travel back just to eat here again.
Wonderful local restaurant. They have real wasabi which is amazing and not what you think! Hot sake is a perfect compliment to the food!
I ordered this food on grubhub and omg was it good! It was nice and hot. Steak was tender and well seasoned. Chicken was delicious. Plenty of vegetables. Everything was absolutely great. Even that soup and I normally just throw that in the trash! Im sure that if I were sick or needed a broth to drink, this would be it!
I ordered takeout from Nami on my way back from the airport after a long trip. I got the hibachi chicken, and it was delicious! The chicken and fried rice are really top notch. Also, its one of those little details that makes you feel silly, but the to-go container was really high quality and I felt a little bit fancy.
Always great food and amazing service.
The food is always amazing. And the service is always great!
Came here in August on a date. Super good sushi and pleasant atmosphere
Went last night after an event. We live an hour away and we re pretty hungry. This little place is really cute. I have read some of the reviews and I don t know what they expect from a small family restaurant..white table cloths or something? But, we love these little out of the way places. It was getting late but the waitress was still bubbly and assisted my husband with a special request. My husband thought his filet and shrimp was really good and came with rice, soup and salad. We have been to Hibachi chain restaurants that charge exorbitant prices all so you can have a non-Asian chef perform the same stupid onion stack volcano and to have pieces of food thrown at you. No thanks. We don t eat sushi, so I cannot comment on that, but I also had the tofu that had a smoky flavor with a thin tempura batter and a dipping sauce. My vegetables were fresh crunchy onions, broccoli, and zucchini. I found everything very tasty and will definitely hit this place again!
Nami is a hidden gem! Their sushi is great and the service is excellent too! Thanks!!
Fresh & delicious! It doesn t look like much from the outside but I definitely recommend going. We went for an early dinner (5pm) on a Wednesday & it wasn t busy at all, but by the time we left people were starting to file in. Not sure about later in the evening. We got 3 specialty rolls and all 3 were amazing. The bar area of the restaurant is now the sushi bar very cool.
My favorite sushi restaurant in the city! The environment is relaxing, the staff is friendly and patient and the food is consistently good. Vegetarian options: Easy to order vegetarian options if you are familiar with this type of menu. Probably would not recommend for vegans. Parking: Street parking available along the side of the building. Pay by pay station or app.
Its a great sushi place I love the sashimi very much
bailed out of Groupon before it expired...cost me an hour of wasted time and gas. Probably reflected in how much care they leave out with their food prep. Restaurant gave lame excuse blaming Groupon. Common courtesy is to accept coupons that have not expired. Osaka , Carytown Sushi, and Akida to choose from. You lost a good customer for very little money. I order Sashimi probably about 70 dollars worth and you worry about a coupon that had not expired. Customer loses here..Please get more professional and you lost more than just me. PS I own a restaurant and never treat folks like this...
my favorite sushi restaurant in rva! love the vibes whoever is aux in this restaurant deserves a raise they have great music taste. sushi is always great!
We were tended to promptly, the food was amazing and the relaxed atmosphere made this place a go to!
Great sushis, great staff! Thank you :)
The hibachi was great. A few vegetarian options. Wonderful atmosphere.
Best sushi in Richmond! The sushi is sooooo good and they play amazing music and cute videos!! Love all the sushi and food I ve gotten here.
This is the old 3rd St. Diner location with a complete makeover. I work in the area during the week and Nami is a favorite lunch spot. Sushi and Hibachi selections are prepared fresh and are very tasty. Always look forward to my next visit.
Very charming place with friendly staff! My partner and I tried four sushi rolls and they were all excellent. Check out the sexy roll!
Found this newly opened place today with my friends and it was definitely a very pleasant experience. The staff was really friendly and helpful and the presentation of the food was decent. Most importantly the food was extremely delicious and the fish was fresh. 10/10 would come back again.
My fiancee and I have been waiting for this place to open and it did not disappoint! It was so good and the staff was so kind. I loved the food and will be back for more!
I ve also been anxiously waiting for this place to open. The service and the food were perfect. This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
My daughter and I were very hungry and waiting for another bus to visit my home town of Philadelphia since our first one got canceled. We walked to the corner of the street and saw this place. They were so inviting and so friendly that they let us in after hrs. They told us that it was their first day open. Even though we did not make it Philadelphia that night due to the bus we booked, this place made our evening more positive and we had something to smile about. We look forward to going back for more Godzilla rolls, miso soup and spring rolls and even hot wings were delectable! Can t wait to try more things on the menu, the customer service was exceptional! I will be going here as often as I can as I am a sushi lover!!!
This place definitely deserves a 5 star rating. My mom and I loved it so much and the staff are very friendly we will definitely be coming back.
Amazing food. Awesome service. Had the chicken teriyaki bento for lunch and everything was great. The ginger dressing on the house salad is excellent!
Walkable distance to VCU campuses. A nice place for dinner after a long school day.
Just returned from a great meal at Namis japanese at 218 E Main. I had the sashimi sampler and habachi shrimp. My wife had the chicken habachi. Everything was excellent including the miso soup and salad. The chicken was so tender and shrimp was spot on. Would recommend it highly
Very good!
Great place, great sushi!
Great food great stuff
This place opened recently and is only a block away from my workplace! I already ate the sushi so I didnt picture it (sorry!) But the staff was super friendly and the prices are great. I got the lunch hibachi and a lunch tempura sushi roll. The lunch came with soup and salad so I feel like I most definitely got my $20 worth!
Been twice in the last two weeks for lunch. Had the Chicken Teriyaki Bento box and it was delicious each time. Co-worker had the Hibachi chicken and steak and will try the next time I go. Nice pace to eat within walking distance of work.
Really good friendly environment, love the extremely modern renovations, and superb customer service. Love the great tasting food! Would definitely come again, highly recommend.
The food and service were top-notch! My partner loved the sushi, and my chicken and fried rice were so flavorful. Im really glad to have a new restaurant to visit downtown, and Ive already got plans to go back next week!
I heard this place was new so I decided to try it, and it did not disappoint! Great service, great sushi, everything was wonderful! :)
The quality of the the sushi and hibachi was outstanding and same goes with the service. The environment was very inviting, I would recommend everyone to give it a shot.
Try the donburi here. Good amount of food!
So we went for my boyfriends birthday dinner and we were super excited to have a sushi place so close to our apartment. We ve been following the status of this place since we saw the sign before it opened. Not too busy on a Wednesday night but there was definitely some good foot traffic through there. The food was perfect in my mind. Good, quality sushi rolls as well as crunchy tempura and gyoza and a pretty good ginger house salad. And not to mention there s a lot of variety in terms of sushi rolls. Plus you can t beat that price! The staff were all really friendly and attentive and our food never sat for too long. I can t wait to go back because we will most definitely go and try their kitchen options next! Definitely give this place a try, it s worth it!
Everything we ordered was fantastic! Definitely be going back.
Amazing quality sushi! The chef is phenomenal and made us a special plate that was incredible. Highly recommend this place!
Quickly became my favorite restaurant in Richmond. Lovely staff, delicious food, great atmosphere. I tell everyone I know about this place!
Love this new sushi spot!! The sushi was so fresh and I loved that they had all the usual rolls + fun ones to try :) yummm
Sushi was delicious!! We got the Flaming Dragon roll, the Alaska roll, the cucumber roll, the sweet potato roll, and the pork gyoza. Everything tasted extremely fresh seafood and vegetable wise and the sweet potato roll was top notch!! Very fast attentive service as well!! Will be coming back for certain!!
Delicious sushi, fresh, plenty of options. Standard sushi prices. I believe they have hibachi ootions as well. Great service. 3 TVs, each playing interesting shows about Asian cuisine/culture. Server said theyd have a liquor license next month (July).
Delicious. Service was great and very attentive. The Hibachi Chicken dish was probably the best hibachi I ve had in Richmond. Sushi I tried was fresh and good as well.
I was gonna eat here but after a loooonnngg trip from Atlanta Georgia my 15 year old son had to use the restroom while I spoke on the phone outside,I told him go ask them could he use it they literally lied & told him someone was in the restroom using it.the only way I found out is a middle age black women came out & told me I was gonna eat here with my friend but after they lied to your son about the restroom WE CHANGED OUR MIND! At that point I said IN NOT EATING HERE EITHER! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL
My husband loves sushi and we decided to try someplace new for Fathers Day and Nami did not disappoint!! Hot & crunchy takoyaki, fresh sushi with some different ingredients weve never thought to try before (like mango! Yum!!), excellent service!! Even our 5 year old loved it (but definitely only recommend for adventurous kids! This is a true sushi restaurant, dont expect a kids menu!) We will definitely be back!
Amazing sushi!
Delicious food, however the tiniest bit of crab in each piece for $17 sushi.
Food was good server was polite while rations were poor and we practically had to beg for napkins and sauces
I saw this sushi restaurant just recently opened in the area, so I was excited to give it a try. It was a lovely place! We ordered the Sashimi Regular and the Volcano Roll. The sashimi was some of the best Ive had in Richmond, but the pieces were smaller than what youd typically get from other restaurants. The tradeoff is worth it to me though. The fish was very fresh with a delicious flavor. The volcano roll was also very tasty, though I was expecting it to be more spicy and bold. It doesnt lose any points though because I still really enjoyed it. The service was quick and our waitress was very sweet and polite. The ambiance was super relaxed and calm, I could have taken a nap in there. That may have been because there werent many people when we went. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and the experience. I would definitely return for the sashimi and to try their other specialty rolls!
Really good place to eat ! Went there 30 mins before close still took my Order with a smile on his face and the good was fresh AND HOT ! 10 out of 10 and great service
Sushi was great. Best fried rice I ve ever had with lots of flavor and not dry like rice typically is. Our waiter was also a delight
Great food
Food is great, atmosphere needs some sprucing up. I know theyre fighting an uphill battle trying to revitilize 3rd Street Diner, but the pics are a little misleading making it seem fresh and bright inside when really its a bit dark and musty. Its on the verge of being a recommended spot, as the fish was fresh and tasty, but little things like the rice being skimped on, the avocado on one roll browning, ect. I have faith you guys will impress me next time, just needs some focused improvements.
Amazing new Sushi spot with incredible food & excellent service! Highly recommend!
Solid sushi and Tempura
Excited to have discovered such delicious sushi in Richmond! The nigiri was buttery and delicious and the other rolls were great. Dinged one star only because the vibe wasn t 100% there. It was a bit too quiet. I think a better playlist and louder music could help!
Best sushi in the greater Richmond area
Nice place to grab a quick lunch. Had the steak bento box. Steak was tender and the side items were all fresh. Service was also very good.
Ordered the fried oysters. Tried to stomach one. I had my sister take a small bite, to make sure it wasnt just me. It wasnt. In addition, it was served with duck sauce. The oysters definitely not fresh. I told the waitress. When I received my bill, manager credited $2.59 out of $9.99. If I had eaten them, I would understand. Also, had egg rolls, they were ok. Served with soy sauce. I dont get that. My sister got the Shrimp Tempura platter. She said tasted like frozen shrimp, nothing special. She did state the dumplings were good. Very disappointed, based on the reviews.
I have never eaten so delicious sushi before. It tastes like I ate in Japan before. I can t wait to come again. If you miss sushi, it is surely a good choice. By the way, the environment of the restaurant is really nice. And the waitress is friendly.
Came in with a friend, had a great evening! Ordered some sashimi and chef rolls which tasted amazing! Finished dinner off with cheese cake tempura. Will definitely be back.
Mmmm - These guys need a Facebook page. Finally a hip Japanese spot, walking distance from the Capitol. I jammed these goodies down and a large *Smerg* proceeded to occur.
Fairly new sushi/ Asian cuisine. This is the old 3rd street diner however the renovation has created a new atmosphere for this restaurant. Parking was easy and successful. Primarily street parking. Service was quick and efficient. I sat at the bar. The atmosphere is very quiet which is a plus for date night. I order (1) California roll & (1) Salmon roll. Both of the rolls had (6) pieces a each. This is where (1) star was decreased. The rolls lacked flavor. I did not receive the hmm hmm feeling. Overall, I will definitely return to try other menu items. Definitely a chill place for date night, and solo outings.
Ordered hibachi chicken dinner, come with soup and salad, love it,
It was honestly average. When I went there I only seen one chief but he was working as fast as he could with other orders there. Ordered the yellow tail jalapeño was really fresh, well enjoyed. Love boat came out next was very good all fresh fish. Only one problem was the waiter, firstly she bought use out an extra plate of avocado salad, maybe a miscommunication. Lastly we ordered sashimi and it came out as nigiri. Overall the food was good everything was fresh and was fairly priced.
Excellent high quality and fresh ingredients with a fun environment and music. Ive been going weekly now and just tried their delivery and it was just as delicious as their in house prepared sushi. I got the Sashimi regular and it was superb
We absolutely love this place! The food is phenomenal! I Forget the owners name but his girlfriends name is Song and she is super sweet They are closed from 2:30 to 4:30 FYI
Oh wow I truly love this place me and my fiance has been back twice to eat. He lives in Charlottesville VA and he wants to come to the same place
Absolutely fresh and delicious. I am a New Yorker and hard to please, but this place definitely offer the best sashimi and hibachi grill in the greater Richmond area.
We order takeout from here at least once a week. The sushi is yum, the rolls are great! We ve also dined in twice, n Both times we ve had a great experience
Don t they the location and looks fool you. This place has great food!!!!
I go here about once a week at this point and it is a great place to get lunch! Definitely the best Japanese food I have had in Richmond.
Had better japanese food. Their tempura is good tho
The place was amazing! Food was delicious, service was great and it had a wonderful atmosphere! I had a dragon roll, takoyaki, a beer and one other roll that I cant remember and it was all delicious. If I had more room in my stomach and more money in my wallet (not that it was expensive, Id say average cost for sushi if not less) I would have definitely gotten more! Vegetarian options: Its sushi, theres always a veggie roll at least
everytime
Love this place! The pork gyoza and hibachi are delicious - always have gotten the chicken and shrimp with extra rice and yumyum sauce to go.
I went to Nami around 5 and there was only one table occupied. The server was attentive and made sure my food was correct. I ordered the gyoza, nigiri sampler, and two specialty roles. The gyoza and nigiri sampler were very good and came out in a timely manner. The specialty roles were okay. I probably wouldnt order them again. All in all, its an okay sushi place.
Excellent service, but unfortunately the sushi and seaweed were fairly bland.
Excellent food and service. Salmon skin hand roll was fantastic.
This was our second time at Nami, we came when they first opened and like most super new restaurants service was a little slow but food was good. This time around, everything was spectacular! Our waitress, Sabrina, was super friendly and suggested the Kami role, definitely our new favorite. We were in and out so fast and for 4 roles, 2 appetizers, and a drink the total was under $60. Can t wait to come back!
My favorite Richmond sushi place great quality food and friendly service! Also the owner made the wall mural and many of the decorations herself :)
I love eating that vegetarian fried noodles. There are many vegetables in the fried noodles and they taste very good. And the extra tender fried tofu is my favorite.
We came in just as they opened on a Sunday. I ordered steak soba and a nigiri sampler appetizer. My girlfriend got spicy salmon rolls and spicy salmon skin sushi all of the food was really good, it was well presented and it was well worth the money I had so much left over. The water here is also really good for RVA. Ill definitely be coming back and Ill add some photos next time . Its worth stopping by!
I ve had $5 sushi rolls and $200 sushi nigiri before this by far is a STEAL. We got dumplings, shumai, wings, the most expensive sushi bundle, edamame and still less than 100!!! Good quality for really good prices. The service and owner are so kind and friendly. top 5 sushi spots!!
They gave me less sushi than I ordered and what I did get tasted like the salmon had gone bad. Very disappointed I wasted $50 on this.
Came to Nami expecting it to be 3rd street Diner and was pleasantly surprised. Ordered from the lunch. I had chicken hibachi with fried rice and my partner had sushi. It was excellent. The wait staff was friendly and courteous. Really good experience. Parking: Free parking across the road.
Very delicious
