First time visiting Perly’s while traveling through Richmond, and it was such a great experience! My family and I stopped by for lunch, and everything was perfect. The staff were incredibly friendly, the food was delicious, and the portions were generous. Great value for the price. Highly recommend if you’re in RVA!

Always a line but 100% worth it. Perlys has some of the best, most unique dishes. Definitely start with the Bloody Maria...such a satisfying drink. The schnitzel and the latkes were both amazing. Craving more of it already. Go get in line!!!

The food here was absolutely delicious! I was so excited to come here, between the blend of Jewish and Eastern European food on the menu I couldn’t wait to go! We had the salmon and egg bake of some sort and also the blintzes which were both phenomenal! We also took home some hamentashen which were so buttery and delectable! I can’t wait to go back and try more of this menu! Our waiter seemed a bit rushed and annoyed but it was a busy morning for brunch so I get it. Will be back for sure!

WOW! Our Airbnb host recommended this spot for breakfast, and I’m so happy he did. We got the stuffed cabbage, Jewbano, schnitzel, and egg rolls. Everything was amazing - the vibes were also immaculate. Cocktails are AMAZING!!! The decor is amazing, everyone was so friendly, and it felt so cozy and inviting. We will absolutely be coming back next time we’re in Richmond.

Fantastic, give me 14 of everything right now! As a native New Yorker, who absolutely loves Yiddish food. It was a pleasant surprise stumbling upon Perly’s. At least once a week I crave Matzo Ball Soup. I grew up eating it, it’s a comfort food for me and Perly’s knocked it out of the park! From the broth, to chicken, and celery everything had exquisite flavor profiles. Bagel with Fish. Again I have not had anything similar since being home in NY. Perly’s killed it once again. The only right way to do it is smoked salmon, chive smear on an everything bagel. Salmon was very fresh. Perly’s took me down memory lane. Everything was so good, I might fly out a few times a year just to eat here. As the food lord Guy Fieri would say, gangster!

The food was delicious. The wait was a bit long but it was worth it. We had the Benny Goodman which was pretty much Eggs Benedict, and the Perlstein which was eggs on veal cutlet. We also got an order of the cheese blintz on the sweet side. We liked everything.

I always enjoyed the sandwiches and the appetizers here. Prices are reasonable. One of the best places for a brunch or lunch. Only inconvenience is that you can't reserve a table online, and the wait time is usually high. Also the place is a little crowded and noisy as it is a popular place

First and foremost kosher its not, Im not sure if its even kosher style (ie. Kosher meat+kosher cheese/dairy) That said it is reminiscent of old style NY delis with a kosher flair (things a kosher keeping Jewish grandmother would make). Its the closest thing to REAL lox to be found for over 100 miles (you might find something similar in Baltimore on Riestertown Rd). My niece loves the Benny Goodman (I had to explain who he was lol), her husband raves over the Reuben and I enjoy the bagel w/grav lox. Theres always a line waiting and packed inside (they must do something right, no?) Its become an annual post Thanksgiving tradition Dietary restrictions: I think there may be some vegetarian options but I wouldnt say it was strictly anything other than delicious (from an omnivores point of view). As mentioned in my review it probably wouldnt qualify as either kosher or halal Parking: There are meters on the street but they arent active on Sunday (oh! What a bargain!) Kid-friendliness: Weve brought my nieces daughter when she was 1, then 2,3 and this last trip she was four. Shes well behaved and doesnt run around (which is good bc theres no place to run) . If I recall there were high chairs and boosters in previous years. Wheelchair accessibility: Im sure theyd do their best to accommodate but there are only a few tables in front that could easily accommodate a wheelchair. Maybe they could hold a front table if they were given advanced notice. It would be crowded

Took me back to my childhood in NY. The potato and duck pierogies were delicious. An old fashioned chocolate egg cream top off my meal. Plan on waiting unless you sit at the bar to eat. This is a popular place to eat. Bring an empty stomach the portions are generous. Parking: Plan on waiting. This place is popular.

Well, my husband and I have been clients for at least 6 years, and this place has a sentimental value for us because our first date was at Perlys. However, through the years the portions got reduced- salad and fish got ridiculously small and I have a feeling if they could make the eggs small they would. Today I had order the Benny Goodman and the salad was insignificant. My husband had ordered something else with fish portion and I guess was less than 2 tablespoon of fish there. He is always ashamed of complaining but I m not . I complained about my salad and the waiter had a really really bad attitude: he looked to me, sassy, and said what do you want to do for it ? It s has been always like this - extremely rude. You don t give an attitude for a client if the client complains. I told him I expected he fix the problem and give me a descent portion of salad and not that left overs. He aggressively took my plate and kept having that rude attitude during all our time. So I left with no tip and now I m writing this bad review. Perlys truly believe just because they make good food they can leave the clients waiting outside, reduce portions and let the waitress treat the clients badly. This is not how it works and I hope everyone starts writing bad reviews so they can figure out they are not untouchable.

An RVA legend! The only issue I ever have at Perlys is the noise. Its a small place that is always full! Food was great, bill was just over $15 a head for generous portions. Saturday at lunch time our wait was only half an hour. Food

Well, we went to this place because of its reputation that many people eat there but we didnt like it as much as we thought it did. It looks dirty and a little old and that is not at all appealing to eat in a place, the cutlery seemed not to be washed well, there was a hair in my drink and the truth is we did not feel very comfortable eating, since we were distrustful of the food, it was not very to our taste. For those who dont mind this is a good place but we wont be back.

Weve heard so much about Perlys that we finally drove the 90-minutes to get there. We gladly waited a little more than an hour to be seated so we could try the food and see what the hype was all about. We were disappointed. The service was terrible. We were a party of four and nothing came to the table at the same time. After a lengthy wait, one of us got their bowl of borscht. 10 minutes later, I asked if the matzo ball soup was on the way. The server said, Yes. Its on the way. Apparently, she never checked and after another 10 minutes I cancelled the soup so it wouldnt come out with the food. Eventually, two plates made it to the table. Five minutes later, one more plate came. Fifteen minutes after that the fourth plate was served...2 cheese blintzes. Really? It takes that long to warm a couple of blintzes on the flat-top? And how long does it take to ladle out a cup of soup? No one communicated about the delays or offered even a fake apology. On to the food. It was just okay. They grill the meat until the edges are badly burnt. The mustard is plopped all in one spot so it gushes out in two bites while the rest of the sandwich has none. Thats a McDonalds level of food prep. One of us ordered a side of brisket that looked like it had been prepared by Chef Mic(rowave) for 60-seconds. It was gray and the edges were all rolled up. So, it was worth a try but not worth going back.

They also do a lot of items a la carte if you want. Its a super cute, small, 1950s style hole in the wall, city ambiance, restaurant. Staff was amazing. Seating is a little tight. Probably if youre over 350lbs it wont be comfortable (Im a big lady). Again, really great place if youre a foodie. I had the frittata which was huge and amazing. The food is always great! Our server Chuck was amazing, and so were all the workers aside from the hostess. When we walked there the hostess with the long brown hair with blonde streaks was taking names outside for a while. Then she went inside and didn t come back out, but we waited along with other people as we saw how busy it was. We came in after someone jumped the line in front of everyone, and when my husband told the hostess she was a little argumentative. When we got called in she was already, once again, taking a tone with us. I asked for her name and before she sat us she started arguing with me about how she s sorry but she doesn t understand why we were mad. She also told us it was our fault for not coming in. We didn t care about the wait, but when a host is that rude it doesn t make anyone want to return. Everything else was amazing.

This place is easily one of the best restaurants in town. MUST get the duck perogies and the burger topped with pastrami is insane. Portions are great value, food comes out quickly and correct. Ive probably tried 20 items from the menu, and their consistency is on point with a fine dining establishment. Line forms early in the AM to get breakfast/brunch, but you can grab and coffee from Stellas Market next door while you wait. You can wait inside Stellas and the host will check in there so you dont miss your chance. My only request is that that they bring back dinner!

We couldn t wait to try this restaurant today but so disappointed. My Dad owned a kosher deli right by Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. The store closed its doors in the early 1970 s as the neighborhood was changing, but the deli meat was always fresh, good and quite tasty. No different than Katz s deli in lower Manhattan that is still in existence today. I ordered a hot pastrami on rye with Russian dressing and coleslaw. A typical NY deli sandwich. The pastrami was very fatty and dripping with grease. Hardly any Russian dressing and coleslaw were placed on the sandwich plus sandwich quite thin, unlike traditional deli sandwiches. I had high hopes but was let down. I will continue my search in the Richmond,Va area. What I m mentioning here was mentioned to the waiter. I didn t ask for this charge to be removed from my bill but the waiter did remove it and I do appreciate that.

Food is very delicious, I brought one of my friends here for breakfast as I was raving about the food to her. The food selections and presentation are top notch!! I was however very disappointed in the service, upon arrival the host was extremely rude, after waiting 25-30 min she skipped over our name several times until we asked her why we hadn t been called; I even saw my name on the list and she had crossed out other names below us. Once we were seated my friend grabbed a menu on the bar near our seat, and the host literally ripped the menus out of her hand n told her those aren t for you! and walked away. Our waitress was very nice, unfortunately we just spent a lot of time waiting for food items, our bill, and at the end we asked to pay separately. There was miscommunication with splitting the bill and the waitress didn t want to grab a manager to resolve the issue. Overall, I do love the food however due to this poor experience with service I don t think I ll return, these types of issues can make an experience stressful.

Had a great experience at Perly s celebrating a birthday- the food highlights were the cinnamon babka French toast, the Benny Goodman (the latkes were SO good!), the Jewish eggrolls & the patty melt. The duck pierogis were beautifully plated & very good but personally felt the potato filling lacked salt & I would never have known there was duck present. The tuna schmelt was again plated very well but the house made chips were a bit stale/soggy & the tuna salad lacked acid. The space is full of character but small so be prepared to wait outside. Our waitstaff was polite but not overly helpful or friendly. Also, the back table where we sat was located under a speaker so the music drowned out much of our conversation & gave me a slight headache. I would absolutely return for the French toast & want to try the matzo ball soup but the noise level & staff being just civil equated to 4 stars from our family.

Good food but horrible pickup service. Went to order for takeout. 2 plain bagels that did not require any additional attention, such as toasting or slicing and it took 30 minutes!!! Honestly how long does it take to look at a bagel, grab it and toss it into a bag?!?!?! We have been there on several occasions to dine in but never again will we be patrons of this establishment. What a waste of money. The bagels tasted like they were a day old, dry and hard. Service and food has gone downhill!!! HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!

Always an amazing time with some of the best quality food! My partner and I shared the Benny Goodman and Schnitzel Perlstein and added the Corned Beef and Cabbage Rolls, too, because we were super hungry! Needless to say we had some leftovers that were just as tasty a few hours later.

So this little hidden gem in Richmond, Virginia has a Jewish vibe and a cozy interior. I was greeted at the door by a nice gentleman with a big smile and found a seat at the bar. Once again I was greeted by another big smile Allison, my waitress. The menu had a lot of interesting different food selections more on the heavier side for my taste but the Good Benny was delicious. Some poached eggs over salmon and potato Pataki, which is almost like a hash brown was delicious. Had a great experience and would recommend it to anyone who wants something a little off the beaten path .

Staff was amazing even with my husband, Jewish New York Jewish craving. He was so surprised and so joyed to be able to have authentic Jewish food and chocolate Jewish drink, which made him feel at home. This is truly a home away from home.

CUTEST indoor decor, friendly servers, and amazing food with large portions. We got there during breakfast rush and the hostess greeting us let us know it would be about a 40 minute wait. We were super fine with that and stepped outside to wait for our name to be called. We didnt end up having to wait the full 40 and were seated in more like 25-30 minutes which was awesome. Our server was super nice! We ordered our drinks and split an order of Latkes to start with, both came out quickly despite the place being slammed. Latkes were amazing, hot crispy and fresh with the delicious apricot applesauce. Our server kept my coffee cup topped up throughout the meal, I never even had to ask for a refill, she was doing rounds through our section regularly making sure everyone was taken care of and enjoying their food. After Latkes I ordered the Reuben with garlic dill fries, my partner got a bagel sammie on sesame with beef bacon. Both were delicious, my Reuben was HUGE and again came out hot with super crispy bread and perfectly melty cheese. Partner enjoyed their bagel sandwich as well. At the end of the meal we ordered a slice of chocolate babka to go and it was ALSO great, I would recommend pairing it with a hot cup of black coffee. The server again was super on top of things and brought over a to-go container for the other half of my sandwich without me even needing to ask. I was seriously blown away by the quality of the food and service and again, the interior deco was just adorable with the cutest wallpaper and a 1950s diner feel. If youre in Richmond do not pass this place up- it was the tastiest and probably the most affordable meal we had on our trip!

As a humbled Jewish boy who made his way to Richmond a year ago, it has been a blessing to have an establishment like Perlys to provide me nostalgic feelings of visiting my grandmas house as a child every Sunday afternoon and have traditional Jewish deli foods boy does this place bring me back! The melt in your mouth pastrami is a must. The fish platter with smoked salmon, smoked white fish and lox was so tasty. I d recommend the lox the most. Also got Matzah ball soup which was super fluffy. 10/10 wow.

This place knows exactly what it is, and theyre doing it as hard as they can. Its a Jewish deli themed diner. The food is fantastic. The decor is delightful. The waitor was kinder than he needed to be. Expect a tradional diner asthetic, but there will be no canadian bacon with your Eggs Benedict. They do it on latkes with lochs, and they do it very well. The blintz is also very good. I wish I lived closer. Go here.

This little gem was the best way to end a road trip after arriving in Richmond. The place is cozy, although even with a little one in a high chair we were able to be seated quickly. Lots of traditional Jewish staples across breakfast lunch and dinner, plus the bloody Mary was incredible. Our server was very friendly, she even had fruit out quickly to keep the kiddo entertained. Look forward to returning for another meal. Edit: we came back 6 years later and Perlys is still exceptional. The Fish Board

Have been in Richmond for 10 years and obviously know about Perlys but had never tried it. My husband and I are there today and will DEFINITELY be back. There was a sizable wait time at 1:45 p.m. on a Saturday, but we werent shocked considering how highly rated it is. I kept busy shopping at Stellas next door. The hostess was friendly and efficient when seating is us. The server came very quickly thereafter to take our drink orders and delivered them promptly. I ordered the whitefish salad and quickly learned they were out, again not surprising since it was getting close to closing time. So I ordered the Tuna Schmelt with garlic dill fries. It was delicious! My husband had the Goy Vey which took him back to his days in New York. (He also ordered the Matzoh Ball soup to go, but hasnt tried it yet.) We found the prices affordable and reasonable, the service to be friendly and efficient, and the food to be excellent!

Over an hour till closing with multiple spots open and turned away at the door. Willing to sit at the bar which had 4 open spots let alone the 5 other tables that were open. Cant order take either. Waste of a trip, go somewhere else as the place has no real customer service, no planning, and very little give a damn when it comes to the actual customers but great food if and when they are open and willing to serve.

We had a bad experience just trying to get a table at this busy spot. We checked in with the hostess and was told we had to stand outside for our name to be called. We were told 30-45 minutes, which is no problem, but after 40 minutes of waiting the hostess comes out to ask our name . . . and then angrily shows us to our seats, telling us she called our names a bunch of times . . . After not knowing our names basically making us feel crazy and gaslighting us, after we waited 40 minutes in 40 degree weather for this table. We could not sit through a meal after being chastised for no reason, so we let the hostess know she can t treat people so poorly and left. Many restaurants have figured out how to fairly coordinate a waitlist without belittling their customers.
