Came on for some apps and drinks and left totally satisfied. Its a small place but not uncomfortable.

Excellent Mexican restaurant. Service was great and so was my food. I ordered the Tamarindo Burrito and the frozen house margaritas.

So cozy and great food

I have lived and worked all over Central America and Mexico and generally am not a fan of typical Tex Mex Mexican places. I moved a block away from Chicanos Covina a week ago and have eaten here 4 times already. The place has a comfortable feel with a real bar and nice selection of beers and tequila. The staff are super friendly and from all over Central America. Food is fresh and while all the Tex mex favs are on the menu they are prepared very well and there are more traditional items like pollo mole and birria tacos. The Birria tacos are big with tender beef and the dipping consomme is rich and very authentic. Good happy hour prices and a great Paloma one of my fav drinks. Highest personal recommendation. Updating my earlier review. Continued excellent service and a full range from Tex-Mex to more traditional items.

This place has some of the best Tex-Mex in Richmond. It s our go to place before shows at Dominion Energy Center and the National.

The salsa was mildly spicy in the most perfect way, the queso was creamy and smooth, and the arroz con Pollo was so flavorful. The staff were fast to serve and faster to smile. Cannot rate these folks highly enough. Ill definitely be going back.

Lovely spot with a BIG menu. Everything still seemed fresh, and the margaritas were strong. The staff were so kind and patient, will definitely come here regularly.

I love this place. Ive just finished my second dinner from Chicanos in two nights. If I was staying in town another night, Id consider it. Night one was Lalos Burrito. Wonderful. The beef was tender. The sauces were fantastic. The guacamole was right-on. The tortilla chips worked well as cutlery (I did take out and didnt get utensils). Night two was enchiladas verdes. Unstoppable. Everything worked. Got a sweet tea this time and it was such a good move. All of this was eaten at a hotel desk while watching Copa America. Peru got a red card and lost to Canada. Oh well. Good food. Kid-friendliness: If your kid likes raw onions and cilantro sprinkled by an artist on top of a steaming enchilada, then absolutely.

My favorite Tex-Mex restaurant in downtown Richmond ! This is my go-to Rib Eye steak with a la diabla shrimps w rice and beans oh and corn tortillas. They also make the best drinks ! (Mojitos are the best ) !

We wanted to try a new place for a post-graduation dinner and this was definitely a winner. Quick, friendly service. Fresh, delicious food. Casual, but classy environment. Our old Mexican go-to has lost its edge so we are going to give this one a shot at the title.

More of a bar with food than a restaurant. Service was good, atmosphere was nice enough. Adequate amount of food for the price, I suppose. My Steak a la Diabla was fine, have had better but have also had worse, though the rice was undercooked and dry. My friend had the Tilapia en su Salsa, which marks the first time Ive ever encountered fish in a sweet enough glaze to qualify as a dessert. It was served with rice that was also just as sweet. Safe to say we werent fans of that one. Good chips and salsa, though.

The food here was absolutely delicious. The place was packed for lunch, but we got our food quickly and it was all hot, so flavorful and the tacos were large. I got the tacos Al pastor would highly recommend if you love authentic yummy Mexican food!!!!

Edwin (José) attended us and was an excellent host. Super friendly and attentive. When you arrive they give you some nachos with a tomato sauce. The guacamole is the best I have eaten in the USA, all natural. I ate Tacos al pastor and they were very good, the meal is very complete since it comes with rice and beans. My friend ordered Rice with seafood and it was also very good. My recommendation for those who cannot tolerate any spice is to ask in advance if it can be removed. The atmosphere is very good, the music, the decoration and the lights create a warm place where you want to be to eat or share a snack with some drinks. Recommended! And the price for two people is super good for the amount of food.

The deals are great, the food is delicious, the drinks are solid. Service was fun and relaxing, the spot itself is cozy, personally I like a lil more eccentric spots but this one is really refined which is aesthetically pleasing as well. Good, fresh Mexican food right in downtown Richmond. Nice-sized portions and good beer selection. Try the Arroz con Pollo with added peppers, onions, and shrimp. The guac is nice and fresh and HUGE.

If you buy a jar of cheap spaghetti sauce and throw in a bay leave when heating it up, do you call it homemade? Youll love this place if you do. I chose this place to celebrate a friends birthday from a Google search (their website mentioned fresh tortillas). What a mistake. The guacamole was some avocado paste with some pico de gallo thrown in and mixed up (with some citrus?). The salsa and queso tasted fresh out of a jar (more likely a can). Moreover, half of our meals (party of four) were tepid at best. How do you serve a not at all warm quesadilla and not take it off the check when the person doesnt eat it because its cold? Which, they would have known about way before everyone was finished eating if they ever bothered to check in with us. The beans tasted like reconstituted beans (think Taco Bell) and and the rice was flavorless (tho cooked well). The meat tasted like it had been cooked and then re-heated. Not good. In fact, decidedly bad. And, well, the tortillas were definitely NOT homemade. I do not understand how this place has such good reviews on Yelp and Google when the iced tea might have been the best part of the meal. At least it (the iced tea) tasted authentic and homemade.

My wife was craving a good Mexican dinner and we gave this place a shot. OMG Im so glad we did!!!! The drinks were perfect and the food is phenomenal. The service is above and beyond and we will be visiting here again very soon. If you get the chance make sure you stop here!!!!

Food was good, but they do not handle customer allergies well. I asked if they served non-alcoholic margaritas and the server said they did. I ordered one, and it tasted like it contained alcohol. I asked the server to confirm it was alcohol free (and mentioned this was due to a severe alcohol allergy/intolerance I have). She confirmed once again it did not contain alcohol. I then asked what the ingredients were, and she did not know. I ended up having an allergic reaction not long after leaving the restaurant.

As a Mexican, I recommend this place, I tried the sope dragon. And I loved it. The umami flavor from the mushrooms, cilantro. And jalapeños was so delicious. And the Dessert the fried ice cream taste ime wrap in churro was very filling. My husband order the Druken shrimp and I was cooked to perfection.

Ordered as delivery first and I enjoyed it so much I ordered again and decided to pick it up instead of paying an extra $7 on a $15 meal. The food was excellent. Salsa was good but a bit too spicy for my liking.

I hardly ever leave reviews, but I order the Quesadilla Chicano ($15) on the dinner menu. It was literally two mini tortillas (soft tacos) with chicken breast inside. It wasn t toasted and there s NO cheese inside. Very small portions for a dinner entree. I also ordered a mocktail ($10) + 1/2 queso dip ($6)= 36.00 Very disappointed

Mediocre at best Mexican food. Which is too bad because I live a block away. I even recently got a coupon for a free entre and it honestly wasn t even worth the price of just tax and tip. Nothing tastes or looks fresh. Everything is bland. Not even remotely close to the amount of flavor you ll find south of the border.

The new server girl Ashley is cute but I m scared to ask for her number.

Service was good. Salsa & street taco were okay. We didnt care for the sweet white sauce that came out with it. The taco salad hadnt had the grease drained from the beef. The rice came out in an exact scoop like a cafeteria. Overall, just alright.

We stopped here for dinner after a 10 hour drive - looking forward to the food as there are many great reviews. The place is very nice on the inside. Our orders kept getting mixed up. The cheeseburger didnt come with cheese. The French fries were good. The fajitas were plentiful but lacked flavor. The beef tostadas were yummy but the black beans seemed like from a can with no added flavor. Weve been to multiple Mexican eateries and unfortunately it wasnt one of our favorites.

Good place. I go maybe once a week. One day I went in to place a lunch order- waitress behind the counter gave me complimentary chips and salsa while I waited for my to go order. I love their enchiladas. The first time my order was wrong- ordered beef taco salad and got chicken. Beef taco was really salty. Maybe it was an off day. However, the last few times I ve gone the food has been really good. Especially today. I devoured it. Chips and salsa is good too, salsa is a little spicy if you re ok with that.

My friends and I visited Chicano s last night before a concert, we couldn t have asked for a better experience! From when we saw on their door that they support veterans, to the atmosphere, the food, drinks and service, everything was 10/10! It was the best Mexican food and margarita I have ever had and our waiter, Ricardo was amazing! We live 2 hours away but can t wait to make the trip back to the restaurant again!

The place is nice , it s located along main ave. We ordered Chicken and Beef Fajitas and I can say chicken taste way better . The free nachos is good! Lovit! The chicken soup is with avocado and rice and it taste normal. Nothing special . The waiter are very accommodating, courteous and really nice .

Met up with a friend from grad school here, and we loved it. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. They also made suggestions on what we should try, and we werent disappointed in their food recommendations. Will definitely go back again, and excited to try more of the menu.

The stuff is friendly, food is fine. The major problem is that the food size is small compared to the price. There is another Mexican restaurant in the area called Casa fiesta . You pay the same amount and get almost twice bigger plate.

Food was good. My husband and I got 2 different dishes and shared so we could taste more since we were just passing through Richmond.

We arrived after 10 pm and we seated immediately. The restaurant only had one other party there at the time. The waitress let us know that the kitchen would close at 1030. She took our drink orders and brought out the water , chips, salsa and white sauce promptly. We were unsure of our orders so she took our orders and brought them out separately, which was great. My Nacho Supreme was ordered and received without much wait. It was delicious, but if youre not a fan of chicken breasts you may want to substitute it. The white sauce with the chips was pretty good. The salsa was on the spicy side but still tasty. The waitress cared enough to ask our opinion of their salsa. I would definitely eat again!!!

We stopped by late for takeout dinner after 8 on a Tues night. They were busy w/huge party down side, mostly full restaurant, & a few takeout orders. The man who greeted us was very nice & helped us find updated menus & pricing using QR code online. I took a card w/menu QR & 10% off online ordering ad. (Discount link is also on this Google map page). We enjoyed our big order of Nachos Supreme (had beef AND a lot of chicken meats), burrito California, Tacos Supreme (steak), & churros. I had a taco left over (dinner has 3). I saw while waiting, you can also order 2 or mix w/ quesadilla, chalupa, etc., & also order single items. We will definitely be back & order ahead online for 10% off 1st order.

Good different take on Mexican food.

The food here is very good. The red salsa is very hot. I enjoyed my beef enchilada, beef chile relleno, tamale and black beans & rice very much. The jumbo classic margarita on the rocks was good. $12.50. Service was slow and inattentive. I didnt dig the loud piped in music. The acoustics of the room are poor (high ceiling, tin). There was a really loud diner complaining to a co-worker about something at their job the whole time I was there.

I m not easily impressed by places. But, I got to say this one was surprisingly good. I just picked up my food, a chicken fajita. And it has so much flavor even including the chips. The service was very nice and genuine. Definitely going back

The family and I arrived just after lunch ended (3p), however they have happy hour specials everyday! The food came out relatively quick, the place is somewhat small but has an amazing selection of beer and spirits! Food tasted amazing and great portions for the price! Our server was timely and courteous. If youre in the area and wanting tasty Hispanic, I give my recommendation. Kid-friendliness: Allowed for stroller to sit next to table. Also high chairs were available. Wheelchair accessibility: There was a note for wheel ramp, at the entrance, however I did not see it personal (I am not handicap).

I usually get the enchiladas and theyre really great, but today we ordered two servings of taquitos for lunch to pickup. While the potato was really good, the meat (especially the chicken) was so brown and dry, it tasted like it had been warmed up several times before frying. It is advertised to have sides including pico de gallo and guacamole, but neither serving had pico de gallo, and only one had guac, which was brown and tasted bad. In addition, its listed as gluten-free, but these were made with flour tortillas. Im sensitive to gluten, so I had to pick around it. Super disappointing lunch! When Im there, I usually pick up quickly and dont stay, but Ive noticed the owner has a very negative presence, and the wait staff seem to know it. I dont plan on keeping this in our regular rotation any longer.

Great food, friendly staff and accept Google pay and Apple Pay. Only improvement in would suggest is the wait staff refilling soft drinks more frequently. Was there for two hours and only got one refill. Was with a group of 10 but all was taken care of in a timely manner.

Bland is the name of this place. Why do people think the food at this place is good? We started off with Chips and Salsa (without plates). Salsa was actually good and chips decent. Then we order the nachos and chicken avocado tacos. The nachos were bland. The jalapenos and tomatoes are from a can and the combination of everything had no flavor. I sent the nachos back. The Chicken Avocado tacos were basically chicken seasoned with Chill Powder, with Sour Cream from a jar and avocado without and salt. Usually real mexican tacos have cilantro, lime, and onions, however not this place. Save yourself time and money and dont eat here. Cava and Chipotle offer a more authentic and fresh cooking experience than this place. For 15 bucks a plate of food, at least offer me fresh ingredients.

Had chicken enchiladas with Verde sauce. Chicken was dry and personally I would have preferred a bit of a kick to the Verde sauce. Great service and my two friends said their meals were good.

Had the quesadilla jalisco with steak. Delicious with a ton of flavor. My whole party raved about their food. Great attentive service despite being busy. Had no idea this place was so excellent!

We stopped here after checking out a Christmas light show. I have to say I wasnt really expecting much but everything about this place was really really good! We had chips and salsa within 1 minute of sitting down. I ordered a skinny margarita. My BF got the pineapple jabenero margarita and we both liked our drinks. Our meals came out super quick (less than 10 minutes from when we ordered) and we both really liked what we got. I got the chicken fajitas, my BF the Chipotle enchiladas. The service was phenomenal. Our waitress was really nice and attentive. And everything was very reasonably priced too. Highly recommend and will definitely be going back!

Had the fish tacos and my partner had a chicken fajita dish. Both were dry and lacked flavor. The top shelf margaritas were good but the food and complete lack of attention by the service staff when we were at one point the only table and later on one of two tables was irksome. The chips and salsa came with either creama or ranch which I found odd and they were the food highlight for sure.
