Eclectic bar & eatery with Mexican-Asian fusion fare & inventive cocktails, plus TVs showing sports.
We absolutely loved this place! The food was just as amazing as the service! We shared the calamari which was tender inside its tempura batter and accompanied by a delicious sauce with a very flavorful relish underneath. For our entrees, I chose the pimienta negra shrimp pot and my husband had a flight of tacos. My shrimp bowl was so full of delicately balanced flavor and spice. My husband said all four tacos were really good (the fish taco was his favorite) and he enjoyed the seasoned chips they came with. We almost never order dessert, but my husband ordered the crispy tequila cake. I had one bite and found it to be light with a nice crisp. My husband loved it!
What a fun place to have a really unique meal. I started with the Fatty Bao. It was full of Asian pork and fajita veggies. They were an awesome fusion of flavors! Also had the taco flight Szechuan beef, Asian Pork, mango tango shrimp and surf and turf tacos. Those were amazing. Good local beers choices. Service at the counter was helpful with suggestions which were spot on. Atmosphere is simple but the food and service is what I generally go for anyway.
The food was pretty darn good! Not much business on a Friday afternoon. Our server was pretty attentive, and food came out fast. I liked my steak stir fry, but what really shone was the calamari. It was crispy and salty/savory with an amazing dipping sauce. For a fusion restaurant, they do a good mix of Chinese and Mexican! The restaurant’s interior was dimly lit but pretty swanky.
Wow!! I’ve never had Asian Mexican fusion and was a bit skeptical before trying it and can’t say enough good about this concept and execution! We tried the wings in foo sauce, the chips and dips trip, the carne asada and the beef bulgogi burrito and everything was out of this world. Also, bar tenders make a killer margarita but go for the top shelf one. Worth the price🤩
Great food, friendly and helpful service, and the place is cute. The drinks were good but not great. Food is premade - it came out less than three minutes after we ordered - but was tasty nonetheless. The manager / bartender (not sure which he was) was incredibly helpful.
This place is incredible!! I was visiting Richmond, and a colleague recommended this place, so I tried it out. Not your ordinary Mexican-a Asian fusion place! I tried their Taco Flight, which includes four tacos of your choice to try them all + chips/salsa on the side, and their Fatty Fajita Bao. The flavors did not disappoint! The price is just right, and the serving is generous! I love the vibe, and customer service is impeccable! You must try it!!
It was a great experience over all, good food , good service and good atmosphere. It’s hard to have a fusion of these two cuisines but it was very well executed. The dessert was very unique and yum combining both cuisines. The sauce for the wings was very good. The best part was that the price point was very good for the great food served.
We ended up swinging by midweek to spend an evening with an out of town friend. I got lucky this time, as this place has charm...We ended up randomly walking in as it was close to a lot of downtown businesses. Although art decor leaves you guessing, it's got a nice vibe that reminds me of other cities. Overall it's a Great fusion menu and classy ambience. Loved the fish and beef taco options, sandwiches were stellar, and plantains paired very well... Only one negative, Shrimp tacos were underwhelming with it's iceberg lettuce and average flavors, the other tacos were leagues better. I wanted to add that Kids menu was wonderful, and everyone was happy. Service was attentive. We will be back again.
The perfect spot
Good food, huge burrito!
Excellent food. I had tacos and fried rice. It was hot, fresh and delicious. Service was prompt and helpful. Food
Tried the Calamari App. Some of the pieces were a little tough but the dipping sauce made it super tastey. The redtnof my group had tacos and loved them. Service was friendly and food came out quickly. Would go back and try something new.
Not very well thought out mix of asian and mexican.
The atmosphere was fine and the service was good, but the food was meh at best. I had the fried chicken burrito because I was on travel for work and when travelling I make sure to eat things I cant get at home. I cant say specifically what was wrong with it other than it didnt have a lot of flavor and what flavor it had wasnt good. It came out hot and everything so no complaints about that, it just wasnt good. There were 6 in our party and we all got different things and only one thought their food was really good. She had the fried rice and some kind of chicken bowl.
Great Food with many Vegan options! The service was excellent!
We stopped in for dinner after a show at nearby theater. Food was good, we had the Bao and tequila shrimp for appetizers then the taco flight with beef, chicken, fish, and shrimp. It was all very good. Service was fast and friendly. Well be back Parking: there is a pay lot with entrances from 4th and 5th street, short walk back to the restaurant $5/hour
Very good fusion menu, really tasty tacos. I had the taco flight and was very pleased with the various options.
Mongolian chicken bowl was excellent!
Def recommend a reservation by phone! It was busy on Tuesday night. The bulgogi sandwich was great and I loved the chorizo nacho fries. Delicious! One note: The Taco Tuesday deal on the website is only valid during happy hour (wish we d known this before we arrived).
The food was good, especially the sauce. Taco flight lacked a lil flavor tho. Loved the bathroom pics tho lol
Service was horrible. The server mixed up our drinks and refused to correct the issue, then management invited us to not return to the restaurant because his waitress was crying and hurt about us refusing to take the wrong drinks.
Great food and the take celiac disease seriously. Happy hour margarita too
Loved it good food
Bulgogi burrito was delicious! Chicken quesadilla cheese was not fully melted. Best part of Szechuan tacos was the chorizo on top. Platanos and ice cream idea is great - execution was fine. Very friendly server. Booths with shared backs arent firm so we felt all of the movement of the party behind us.
We love their fish tacos and mexinese fried rice , spicy and delicious. Kylie is the best there , always helpful and friendly
I wanted to live the place because of the name. Sadly it was a loud sports bar atmosphere with very basic dishes. The calamari dipping sauce was outstanding, everything else was mid at best
Perfect fusion of Asian and Mexican. Plenty of GF and vegan options. Good portions as well.
Food was delicious. I will be back for those pork tacos!
Great spot for food & drink. I liked the random sport that they had playing on the TV
Awesome food and drinks, great vegan options
Wow what a great exciting place. Huge takeout portions! Food
I love the atmosphere and the eclectic food fusions.
Ive been coming to this place for a long time, and everything on their menu has been a hit! I took some friends from out of town the other day and they loved it.
Interesting tex-mex asían fusión. Ill be back. Hoping they add a Thai or Vietnamese style chicken tamale someday soon.
This is my 2nd time coming here, and the food is fresh and hot love it very much. I got the fried rice, added the shrimp, and the veggie egg roll. The veggie egg roll is very crispy omg I should ve gotten 2 more. The sauce came with egg roll and it tasted a little sweet when I dipped my egg roll in it, which isn t bad. I was full and felt like going to sleep at work . You may want to find parking also.
We worked with Eddy to plan our wedding rehearsal dinner in the upstairs. Great venue with private staff and bar. Food was awesome as usual and everyone loved it. Highly recommend.
Food was fresh. Great menu. Vegetable egg rolls are 2nd to none.
Love this place. Great food Parking: Have to find a parking lot to pay for parking. Never any parking on the streets.
Very delicious!!
We had a blast here! The meal and drinks were amazing, our waiter clearly loves his work, super knowledgeable, hilarious and very helpful. Check out Wong Gonzalez! Vegetarian options: I m a vegan, lots of great options! Dietary restrictions: Very accommodating and super helpful in addressing our needs.
FIVE STARS!! The fusion of Mexican and Asian cuisine was very unique. The food was absolutely delicious (and surprisingly affordable), bursting with unique flavors. If you love a hot and spicy sour twist on tomato soup, you have to try their Sopa Caliente. Our server was so cool, attentive, and made excellent recommendations. The atmosphere at Wong Gonzalez is truly one of a kind. It s unlike any place I ve ever seen. Highly recommended!
Great margaritas and wonderful service. I rarely clean my plate at restaurants but I ate the whole meal. There are at least three vegan entree options on the menu and a few appetizers as well.
Good food friendly server
Amazing bulgolgi burrito
I was skeptical, but have to say the food is wonderful. Enjoyed the atmosphere as well and they have a nice cocktail menu. Great spot! Id go back.
Amazing service. The server forgot to make a modification to my meal and immediately fixed the mistake. They were slammed during the lunch rush, so it took just a little bit longer to get the correct meal but he went ahead and comped my meal for the mistake and comped my friends meal since she had to eat without me. So thoughtful! On top of such kind service, the fish tacos were excellent. Highly recommend!
It was great! They accommodated our party of 6 nicely
I dont know that seeing a servers bare stomach while they are serving me food on a table that sits height and eye level to their stomach is the most appealing. If it was a bar and they are standing behind it and only serving drinks thats different. The fusion of Asian and Mexican is a novel idea that works well and the food was tasty. We were seated quickly and the restaurant had a good vibe.
Food was little bit in a salty side. Table sticky. Waitress said table is clean, just top layer of varnish destroyed. Whatever- feels like dirt. Food
Went in there for lunch it says Asian /Mexican well it s more Asian than anything. There is no Mexican food taste, good but not Mexican. There was not one Mexican dish on the menu. And just because you put shrimp and tacos if not, Mexican. Guess I should ve looked for a real Mexican place.
A fling between two lovers that dont speak the same language. Now, dont get me wrong, our server was lovely, but a charming plate does not make a meal tastier. I was served very decent Szechuan Sauce Beef and then it was murdered smothered in very fresh and decent cilantro. Why? They were so fine without it. I would have the cilantro with a dash of citrus as a salad on its own, away from my tacos. It felt like forcing two kids that just had a brawl to shake on it and be friends. Overall... Mid as the kids say.
Normally love this place, but the service was terrible. I spent more time waiting to get my check than actually eating food. Legitimately was a full 40 minutes before someone even spoke to us after we finished our food. Then we got the attention of the person who seated us, took our order and brought us our food, he said he would go get our server for us...
Atmosphere was superb
Great food, service and atmosphere.
Was in town visiting a friend from college. He said we had to go to Wong Gonzales for cocktails after brunch and, while we had just eaten, I decided an order of wings was called for. Glad I listened to my gut (literally). The GM, Eddie, came out with awesome wings (mango habanero is done right there) and solid conversation. This spot is great and I will be back next time I m in town.
Food was okay, but nothing I d go back for. Good happy hour specials though.
There was an issue with my food. They completely fixed the issue. Im very happy with this place
Didnt think it would work but it did - fusion: Hispanic & Asian for these dishes (ikwmour family ) Cool decor and vibe while family friendly. A memorial service: packed to go dessert with ice to keep the ice cream cold , while the sweet plantain stayed hot.
Great food!
Love this place!! Excellent service, nice atmosphere and creative and delicious food. Great tacos!! Highly recommend the taco flight.
Food is good, vibe is very punk and chill. Drinks are amazing Dietary restrictions: Not great options for vegans Food : 4/5 |
I would have rated 1 star if this was based on only this visit. I have been here a couple of times and I got better food earlier. This time I got a fish taco and beef taco. The fish in the taco was far away from fresh, very hard to chew, not even warm, and definitely not tasty, seemed like thawed frozen leftover. I was debating if I should even eat that. The beef taco was okay, wouldnt say very tasty. Fish and meat portions are quite small, mostly filled up with other fillers. Parking: Its hard to find street parking. If lucky you may get one. Kid-friendliness: Yes Wheelchair accessibility: Yes
Whoever came up with the idea to fuse Asian and Latin American cuisines is a genius. The food tastes great and is extremely unique - definitely a must try.
Maybe its my fault but a Japanese Mexican fusion restaurant that offers 2 rice dishes and a salad as entrees for a vegetarian doesnt seem right. Should have checked the menu. I wont be back. Not to mention I spent 25 for a cocktail and a soup. Never again
This is the best restaurant I have eaten at in Richmond by far. That was so good.
Fist time there. Loved it!
11/10 with rice and beans. One of the best places Ive ever been. Food amazing, atmosphere was nice, and staff was super accommodating. I actually ate here 2 years ago and remembered how much I loved the place so I wanted to write a review.
Awesome food with great service and a nice vibe.
10/10. This food was AMAZING
The food was great and the server and host were doing their best. They were either short staffed or had a couple of people call in, because those two guys were absolutely scrambling to keep up.
Food tasted like it had freezer burn.
Drink and apps with my daughter before a show! Service was amazing. The food was great, I will visit again!
Fun, welcoming atmosphere. Friendly, knowledgeable staff who provide stellar service. Every dish weve tried has been beautifully plated and delicious. This is one of our go-to spots when we visit RVA.
I came here today with my daughter for lunch. I ordered the mango fried rice and added shrimp. She ordered General Wongs fried chicken burrito. Both were delicious. They both had a slightly sweet flavor for those whose taste buds tend to favor this--like mine do. I loved my dish. It came out nice and hot. I loved the rice, edamame, and everything else about it. It was so much food I couldnt finish it all. My daughter couldnt finish hers either. You definitely get your moneys worth. I also saw many customers coming in for lunch to eat as well. I always look out for that particular detail! All in all, this is really good stuff. We also tried the fried tequila cake. FANTASTIC. For those who like funnel cake you MUST try this. Again, good good stuff. Parking: The restaurant is in downtown Richmond. You will have to find parking on the street and pay for it. I had to park a block away because there are no parking spaces in front of the restaurant. Also, I paid for parking through the passport app.
I wish I had visited earlier during my time in town, because I definitely would ve gone back a second time! Every bite of food was so flavorful and delicious, especially the bulgogi carne asada! Nice staff, pleasant atmosphere, tasty drinks. They even had Mexican wine!
What a unique restaurant where we want to try everything! We ve been twice in two weeks and have had really great food. Service is quick, friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Wonderful place to pop in for a quick bite for some great fusion food.
I DID NOT EAT HERE, and can adjust my review with an explanation from the management. We entered on a Saturday at 12:30pm. Three couples of two each were waiting and not being attended to just inside the door, where we also waited. A quick glance told us why: probably 75% occupied, one person behind the bar stressing, and one single waiter for 12 tables? No one had food on their tables. A few glances from people seated seemed to say don t make the same mistake we did. We waited (eight minutes?) with no acknowledgement from any staff, then we walked out. One couple was seated as we left. It s tough running a restaurant. It must be hard to see customers leave before you even have a chance to greet them. I can t imagine returning though I m the forgiving type. I ll remember this poor performance and hope it doesn t happen regularly to other diners, or to the staff.
Food was magically delicious
Food is delicious , have to get the fried plantains
Very friendly and knowledgeable bartender! The sauteed veggies were incredible, and the Bulgogi Bahn Mi was a fun fusion. Cant believe how fast it came out. So glad I stopped by. Ill be back at happy hour for a margarita!
Food was ok, I was disappointed by the general wong s burrito recommendation by our waitress. The whole Latin-Asian-fusion aspect was underwhelming because the burrito was basically rice and general tsos chicken in a flour tortilla. I thought there might be some special specialty sour cream or salsa or anyt other burrito ingredient to make it more TexMex, but no. To be fair the chicken in the burrito was very tasty and our waitress was very nice, I just think this place is more gimmick than actual fusion fare. We also had the calamari, which was also just ok. Really strong flavors in that dish that didn t really work well together.
At the end of our Hot Cocoa Crawl the group wanted to continue the fellowship with good food. Wong Gonzalez was a first time experience for many of the Crawlers. Exceptional service and flavorful dishes.
This restaurant has grown well and offers some exquisite choices. Since I ve been coming here the menu has expanded. It s absolutely a token restaurant to visit in Richmond. The music was great, good people and good food. Very reasonable pricing. Every time I ve come I ve asked the chef to get me the hottest sauce, and it keeps getting more intricate and closer to napalm. Thanks! And thanks for keeping chartreuse on your bar!
A fun Asian/Tex Mex fusion joint! Their fried rice and stir fry are yummy. The prices are reasonable too. Definitely a place to check out in Downtown Richmond.
Mid
Great variety and delicious menu
Great Mexican-Asian fusion. One of my favorite places to eat in Richmond!
Overall the food was good. The service was a little slow and we had a few issues getting drinks and one of the beers we tried had gone flat but they resolved those issues and took it off the bill. Food was good and they have specials and they were tasty.
I have been here multiple times the food and service is always top notch
The food was delectable and service was excellent! Next time you re hungry and wondering where to find something yummy try Wong Gonzalez..it may look ordinary on the menu but everything has a little surprise twist to it! Bon appetite!
Food looked good but tasted awful. This restaurant wouldn t survive back in Michigan. Idk if it was a bad night for the kitchen but most of our food was microwaved and cold on arrival. My coworkers burrito was filled with dry rice. My tacos were cold and tasted super dry. We left without eating and went back to the Marriott.
Ughh I wish I took a picture. The fish taco portion size looked nothing like the other pictures posted. They were laughably small. Im a 129 56 woman and it was more of a snack than a meal. They didnt even come with a side. So blown. And the tortillas were cold _ . If I had a longer lunch I wouldve returned it smh.
Food was kinda bland (I got the little chicken bites, whatever theyre called) but its a chill place to hang and grab drinks. Music was on point (if youre into 2000s/2010s R&B, youll feel right at home). Nice place to go to kick back for date night or whatever.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!! We had the tequila shrimp, fatty fajita bao, Mongolian chicken pot, and the taco flight. Every single bite was full of flavor and the atmosphere of the restaurant had a fun vibe to it. We enjoyed meeting and chatting with Ali, the General Manager. They were really busy the night we went bc of a show at the Dominion Energy Center and Ali was taking orders, running food, and checking on tables. It was refreshing to see management jump in to help and keep things flowing properly. Amazing experience and we will definitely be back again!
This sweet little spot was busy as a Walmart on a Christmas Eve night. Walked in and found a spot at the bar. The bartender was busy but she still was able to get me a beer and 2 shots of Makers Mark. After downing the shots and half the beer I proceeded to get the attention of the busy bartender. She put in an order of fish tacos and a side of calamari. No sooner had I finished the suds the food came. The tacos were excellent and the calamari was tasty dipped in a plum type sauce. I ordered another brew and watched folks, with smiling faces enjoy what could have been the last dining out experience. Smiles all around. If I get back to Richmond I may stop in again.
Had a good time, music wasnt too loud but close to the limit of having a conversation (but it was pumping with a good mix of modern/90s) We were seated quickly. Waitress was very friendly and helpful. Only issue was the bar was slow. One person working it, and she seemed new to bartending. Took a long time to get our drinks. Food was good. Had the skillet and the taco flight. I would go back as they have a great selection of bourbon and whiskey.
Have been to Wong Gonzalez a few times over the past few years. Food is always good, service is solid. Beer selection is good, drink menu looks pretty good as well, though I havent tried the house cocktails, to be fair. Its a louder joint when it gets medium to high traffic, so if youre looking for a quiet evening you might want to check someplace else. If youre looking for good food, good drinks, and some energy from the crowd, definitely worth checking out Wong Gonzalez.
Wong Gonzalez has a unique menu with bold flavors. Its located in a trendy area within Grace St. and has excellent margaritas for $7.
This was my first time visiting Wong Gonzalez and I have nothing but good things to say. Ill start by saying they dont have an online reservation option but you can give them a call and they will get you straight. I called for a day of reservation, I was told it was pretty booked around the time I wanted but feel free to come in for a seat. I arrived a little after 5:15 to put myself on the list and was told the wait was 30-45mins. I was sat by 5:50 pm ( actually alerted that my table was ready at 5:44pm). I started off with the house Margarita, and it was definitely on the strong side and it taste pretty good. I will say I typically like frozen/sweet margs so if thats your preference this wasnt that sweet. I then had the American Pie - think desert!. It wasnt fruity but more desert and not over the top sweet. I want to note my waitress was great with the recommendations so shout out to them ! The menu seemed to have a good mix of vegetarian options and a lot to choose from in general. I decided to order appetizers this go around because there was a lot to choose from imo. To eat, I got the fatty fajita Bao ( bbq pork) and it was a 10/10 and I definitely will be back just for that ! I followed that up with the fiesta bites and those were pretty good I just wish they had a different dipping sauce as the dipping sauce was too vinegar-y for my likes. But again my waitress came through with the sauce recs and I got the chipotle ranch. I also had the fried rice and it was good as well! The food took maybe 15 minutes to come out and it was the perfect temperature. The music was actually really good, and at a volume where you could enjoy the music and conversation ! For rush hour my waitress was very attentive and timely. If I had to list improvements - 1. I did not like the single chairs. They were a little uncomfortable/small and I definitely felt like I was sliding. 2. I wish they had more sauce options for their friend rice - Im definitely. A duck/sweet and sour sauce type of person when it comes to my fried rice. 3. They seem pretty popular so If they could invest in an online waitlist/ reservation system ( like if youve ever been to first watch ) I think that would be great ! For my 2 drinks, fatty fajita bao, fiesta bites, and fried rice my total came to $42 and some change. Not bad considering I had two cocktails. Overall 10/10 experience and I will most certainly be back !
For lunch, my 1st choice on the menu was not available, then my 2nd choice on the menu was not available. The 3rd choice was the bahn mi. It was good, but was disappointed several items on the menu were not available.
The food was good here but mines was cooked in soy sauce and it was so salty I could barely eat it. This place is pretty pricey... My friends loved and enjoyed all of their food. Parking: This is parking downtown and it is always a nightmare...
The restaurant offers a unique blend of Asian and Latin American cuisine, and the flavors were truly exceptional. One standout dish for me was the mango rice. The dish was beautifully presented, with a colorful mix of fresh mango and sticky rice. The combination of sweet and savory flavors was delightful, and I appreciated the generous portion size. I also enjoyed a refreshing Mexican coke with my meal. The glass bottle and real cane sugar added a special touch to the dining experience, and the taste was much richer and more satisfying than the typical soda. Beyond the food, the service at Wong Gonzalez was friendly and attentive. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and provided helpful recommendations. The atmosphere was also stylish and comfortable, with colorful decor and a lively ambiance. Overall, I highly recommend Wong Gonzalez for anyone looking for a unique and delicious dining experience. And, if youre a fan of sweet and refreshing flavors, be sure to try the mango rice and pair it with a Mexican coke. You wont be disappointed!
Interesting concept but if definitely works
WongGonzalez is so much fun. The restaurants eclectic design is worth the visit itself! Beyond that, the self proclaimed Mexi-nese restaurant features Mexican & Chinese flair dishes. Featured that evening was a brussel sprout taco, which was sheer perfection! I cant wait to return!
Great fusion options without alienating the less adventurous in your group. The bento boxes are great, and I highly recommend the bbq bao. The only thing I would be careful of is keeping an eye on your flavors- some more spicy options may make others appear more bland by comparison. They are a bit understaffed during the week but the food is definitely worth the wait.
Delicious and nice ambiance. John Travolta is on the bathroom wall
Very Interesting food. Asian Mexican fusion. Their caliente sopa is like a combination of Hot and Sour soup from a Chinese restaurant and Tortilla soup from a Mexican restaurant.
Great environment and food to match. Should have a dance floor
They have a very unique fusion of Asian and Mexican. Fairly good sized place with a bar and outdoor seating. Wasnt overly busy when we went. Our server was fantastic. Super attentive and quippy. We order the 3 dip and flight of tacos. I thought the salsa and guacamole were pretty bland. Wasnt overly impressed with it. They tacos were good. Everything was very fresh. Think I liked the shrimp taco the best, but all were tasty. I can see this place getting packed in the evening. Want to try some different type of things, This is a Great place to do that
Fun concept. I ordered the ramen with tofu and it was ok but the zucchini and tofu were lukewarm/room temperature - only the noodles were hot. All my lunch mates liked what they got, tho. I ll try again.
Food (tacos and spring roll) arrived mostly cool/barely warm. One of the tacos had too much hoisin sauce so that we couldn t finish eating it. The hoisin taco was way too salty. The bulgogi beef burrito was great. Service was average and our waitress was prompt. Disappointed by the $60 bill for food that arrived lukewarm. Don t think we will be visiting again.
We did happy hour here on a Friday, the bartenders were freaking amazing! The food was awesome, the drinks were perfect and nice and cold! I highly recommend!
Beef bulgolgi Burrito was perfect. Gyozo was cooked spot on. Very good old fashioned. Service was attentive and reasonably fast, even when very busy.
Good tacos good drinks cool environment and staff. Ate her like 3 times during my time in the city. Food looked so good I forgot to take pictures.
Highly recommend! Food is so good and affordable. The menu has tons of variety for vegan, vegetarian and carnivores alike. As well, I am usually apprehensive to order margaritas from some places because they could be all mix but these margaritas were delicious and so fresh! Outdoor seating is lovely in appropriate weather.
We have been a few time before and tonight the service was awful and the fish tacos where very sad. The fish was cold and we sent it back and still came our sub par. The chips where not crispy. The only good dish was the shrimp appetizer. This is the 2nd time with bad service and food I will not be back anytime soon.
Highly recommend. Delicious flavors, details done right. Every staff member friendly and efficient.
Simply amazing everytime. Hot and sour chicken tortilla soup is fantastic.
Drinks were good when we could get them. Service was definitely sub-par and my food was almost ice cold once it arrived. The rest of our party said the taste was great. I threw mine away as soon as I got home.
Large portions of okay food
this steak stir fry was legit
Best food ever!!! The vegan mexinese sauté was awesome! Food for everyone !!! A definite must try!!!
Its a different food vibe, unlike any other restaurant. Good tacos!
Enjoyed the Mango Tango Tacos. Fresh, perfectly cooked shrimp and a flavorful sauce with a bit of spicy heat. Maybe a little bit sweet for my taste, but I am a bitter southerner.
Great combination of Mexican and Asian food and drinks.
Phenomenal food and excellent margaritas. The service is great too. Definitely a to do on your list for places to eat in Richmond. Thank you so much to our waiter for the awesome service.
Good food, friendly service.
Worst customer service ever! They claim to be an Asian fusion but refuse to serve them. We waited in line with tables open for 10 minutes and proceeded to wait another 15 minutes at the table while the servers walked back and forth, clearly ignoring us.
Vegans and vegetarians beware: my cousin ordered a vegan dish and it had small pieces of MEAT in it. When we brought it to the staffs attention the explanation we were given as that it mustve been left stuck in the wok or it was cross contamination from the spatula. And all they did was take $5 off the price of the dish. I definitely do not recommend if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies at all.
Overall not what you d expect. The vibe is kinda weird, music s too loud. The food concept is cool but felt like I was in a college dining hall. Food is underwhelming
The pick 4 tacos were overflowing with meat and flavor. The chips were great for cleaning up all that fell out. Messy and delicious just as they should be.
Services excellent people are extremely friendly Overall, a lovely place to sit and eat.
Do not come here if you are Mexican lol or at least don t expect anything to be better than traditional Mexican. Place is nice tho and atmosphere is good too.
So good! The gyoza and plantains are awesome and I can t wait to go back.
This is a fun, hip place for fusion Asian Mexican cuisine. They have creative dishes like a Korean bulgolgi style burrito and Asian pork tacos which were really tasty. Some of the other dishes have flavors that are maybe too strong for my taste. It s a popular happy hour place and they also have televisions if you re looking to watch sports.
A very new experience! Staff was friendly. Food was so good! Food
Delicious unique food combining Asian and Mexican tastes. Fusion menu offers large variety of options with something for everyone.
Great flight of tacos. Cant beat the Tuesday 1/2 price special on tacos. Great service by Megan.
First time eating at Wong Gonzalez & wasnt disappointed. Was a little skeptical about an Asian Latin fusion spot so didnt jump out the window. Just ordered some drinks & appetizers. Those was really good so I plan on returning in the future to try some other dishes besides appetizers. Really loved the calamari. Might come back for that alone. I had a waiter whos name I forgot that was really doing his thing. Not only was he the waiter but he was the bartender as well. Wasnt slacking in either field. So the service was outstanding to say the least. If youre looking to try something different & tasty this is definitely a spot worth giving a try. This restaurant lives up to the hype unlike most other spots out here.
Had Gonzi s Stir Fry Steak and it was an absolute feast. Highly recommend this place if you like Mexican and Asian flavors. Won t be disappointed. Excellent list of beers, not a whole lot but the perfect ones to pair with food. Place is neat and spacious. Great music, great ambient all and all.
I went with a vegetarian friend. She checked with the waiter that her meal was vegetarian and there were meat strands and flakes in her food from cross contamination. Be careful here if you have any food allergies.
The food was amazing. Loved the fusion.
This infusion of mixed food from Mexican and Korean is not impressive to me expecialy the price I did not enjoy the two dishes we ordered and will not be bk after spending 80 bucks for three dishes and that was before tip
Went here for a lunch date around 1:00, service was a little disappointing considering it wasnt busy at all. The food was great and i would definitely recommend. Im looking forward to coming back so I can try more of the menu. Vegetarian options: The vegan ramen meal is delicious!
We ended up here for dinner on our first night stay in Richmond and it was a lot of fun. Good dumplings, chorizo fried rice, and cocktails. We ended up coming back the second night because the two places we tried were packed and we were short on time. We were a big group and we tried a lot of the menu. Fish tacos were decent. Chorizo banh mi was a huge hit. Spicy shrimp bowl was outstanding. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Also, very understanding of a bunch of hungry kids!
The tacos were not good. I really wanted to love this place because of the Taco Tuesday special but they take bottled sauce and excessively coat the beef tacos. It was sickening. Very little meat but it was enough to cause heart burn after two bites. (I don t get heartburn) The shrimp tacos had a nice little kick but the tortilla overwhelmed the little bit of filling. The waitress was great though!
Funky eclectic place with a great menu! Very reasonably priced and super fresh ingredients.
Omgoodness, one of the best meals had in a long time! The menu is so diverse you cannot go wrong! Relaxed inviting atmosphere and absolutely devine food. Win-win! And dont skimp on the dessert! The ice cream sandwiches- chefs kisss!
10/10 every time!
Great food. Kind server.
Dined here a few times now and every time the food s been delicious. Service is always great and such a cool atmosphere with good music.
We ordered takeout while staying in Richmond, and the tacos and dumplings were phenomenal!! Vegetarian options: Our friends are vegan and were able to find lots of options
I dont understand the hype around this place. The food was average at best. The chips for the chip trio were stale. The concepts of some of the dishes are interesting, but I was not impressed with the execution. The Chorizo Bahn Mi flavors were weird, and it was so messy it was impossible to eat like a sandwich. The mango fried rice needed more seasoning. They did not have a home made hot sauce. How does a mexican-asian fusion spot not have their own hot sauce? All they had was Tapatio. We sat outside and our table was so unlevel my drink was sliding off so the waitress brought us a napkin so the drink would not slide. The table also wobbled a lot. Im glad we sat outside because the music inside was incredibly loud for 7pm on a Sunday. Considering how long this place has been around I had high hopes.
The basket of chips was like Russian roulette. A very High percentage of chips were like rubber.
Fusion done right! We are so happy we decided to eat here before heading out to the Altria. We started two appetizers, a flight of tacos, and dessert. The food is packed with an explosion of flavor and spice - the perfect blend of both cuisines. My fiancé probably would have ordered two plates of nacho fries if he had the choice. If we lived in this area, we would certainly be regulars, so I highly recommend trying this amazing restaurant!
Ate here during an RVA day trip and the food was incredible. We opted for a guac app but then two Asian inspired entrees. The Mongolian chicken was some of the best Asian food I ve ever had, and I eat plenty of it. Tons of flavor, great freshness from the veggies, all around great. Nice house marg too during happy hour.
Tofu tasted like fish. Avoid if you re not into animal products. Also, quality wasn t too great. Not sure I get the allure.
Stumbled across this place on a recent trip to Richmond. Was not sure what to expect , but was intrigued by the interesting combination of cuisines. I had the Chorizo Banh Mi and was blown away. My wife had the taco flight and , and her favorite was the beef taco. She thought combination of sweet savory was delicious. Wow. Go there.
Ordered take out. The food was ready about 20 minutes after ordering. The staff was friendly. The online ordering is easy to use. The burrito was pretty good, I think the chicken was a little over cooked, but overall pretty good. I liked the combo of Asian flavors served in a burrito. The spring roll was really good.
The food and service was amazing. It s a Mexican-Asian fusion spot and it s chef s kiss good! The fried rice is to die for .even just as a side (not pictured). I ordered the Mongolian Chicken Hotpot and the veggies and flavor was delicious with a little spice kick. I also had the sweet plantains that had a sweet caramel like sauce, nuts, and cream sauce but honestly were good just alone. Overall, enjoyed the meal and will be back. I believe our waitress Name was Leslie and she was so kind and patient. Highly recommend you try it.
$6 margaritas at happy hour. Shooooooot.
Maybe an off day but nothing really worth coming back for. The bao as really dry and not very flavorful. Carne asada had that prepared hours ago and just assembled taste and the ramen was just meh. Everything had one note of spicy. I wouldn t go out of my way to recommend these dishes, but hard to believe ordering something else would bump the rating.
Great food and atmosphere, service good but a little slow. Excellent happy hour margaritas! Very nice Asian-Latin fusion theme. Fatty fajita bao were very good, a must-try appetizer. Chips trio and plantains about as good as you would expect, guac and queso very nice. Cant go wrong with the other entrees, drinks, salad, and desserts. Taco flight a very nice options - especially loved the Asian BBQ pork tacos.
Went there solo for dinner, and got the flight of four tacos. They were really big and generous with the fillings, so I can assure you that I didnt leave hungry (could even finish my nacho chips). Ive been to other asian (korean)/mexican fusion places before, and when done right, they can be really good. The tacos all in all were good, but the beef taco, despite being a szechuan taco, was a bit bland. I couldnt taste any of the spices or the other seasonings. The asian bbq taco was probably my favorite of the bunch. I also got the wok sauteed veggies (just to get in my 5-a-day), which I was worried would just be a token side veggie dish, but was actually very tasty. Service was friendly and super fast. Vegetarian and gluten free friendly as well.
We came here on a whim after being turned away at a place next door for not having a reservation. We almost kept walking but then decided to go in and I m so glad we did. The service was phenomenal and our waiter s recommendations were perfection. The calamari was indescribably good. Originally they brought me out the wrong sandwich but took it back and brought me out the correct one very quickly. The bulgogi Banh Mi was so unique with the guacamole and cilantro but it was the perfect blend of both cuisines. And the plantains .. oh the plantains .. how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Please try this place. Everything on the menu looks incredible, I don t think you can choose wrong.
Fantastic, unique food; excellent service, fun atmosphere! Ten stars! In town for an event; went twice because the food was so good. Will be back next year for sure. Eddie the manager went well out of his way to make guests feel at home. So far there hasnt been a bad dish or even one that was just ok.. So far my kid tried two of the burritos, both the bulgogi and the General Wongs. Loved both. I had tacos both times, szechewan beef once and shrimp once. Flavorsome all around. Their take on a Mexican hot and sour soup is the most unique thing Ive had in ages! Delicious!
Amazing flavor on their Vegan Mexinese Sauté. Great Staff service. Loved the Edamame with Salt and Spices. Vegetarian options: Should have more Vegan or Vegetarian options
They have a nice ambiance and good music, the staff is nice and takes care of their guests
Fantastic food. Full of energy.
We had a great evening with friends celebrating a birthday. The food, drinks and service staff were excellent!
The lunch bento box was delicious. It provided a wonderful variety of flavor and texture, for a great price. Service during lunch was prompt and friendly. Im subtracting one star because I had planned to go here for dinner, but the interior space was uncomfortably loud and I had to go elsewhere.
Food was amazing! Great atmosphere and great service! We will be back!
Best Mexican food Ive ever had, no more than $30 per person including desert and app
Great food... even for vegans
Pleasant restaurant, environment, service, atmosphere ok. Ordered food well prepared and served. Overall satisfaction
