I went here with a big group. The server asked the table if anyone had food allergies. Several people did and she was very helpful picking food from the menu. I got a few of their cocktails which were very good. I ordered the duck for dinner which was delicious.

We started off with the focaccia the butter was excellent and the bread was fresh and airy. The charcuterie board was delicious and offered a unique selection of flavors that complimented one another well. Our server knowable and aware, making sure our appetizers and entrees came out seamlessly. Portions sizes extremely generous The ribeye was good but there was no wow factor. For a menu item at that price point, my fiancé felt as though there should have been something more memorable about the entrée. That being said, the entire experience was outstanding overall. I ordered the risotto and savored every bite. Our server was not only knowledgeable about the menu, but also answered our questions about the bar attached, as well as the sister restaurant. This was our second time at Brunner Pass, we will absolutely return for a third visit!

A surprising good selection of seafood for an Alpine inspired restaurant. I really enjoyed my ribeye steak which had a nice char and good side of lightly creamed vegetables. My wife scallops were good, but not exceptional. The mushroom tart was very good and the flat bread was served hot and crisp, with a flavorful Raclette cheese. Service was nice and attentive. We would like to come back to try the fondue.

How can I put into words the incredible dinner my husband and I shared at Brenner Pass?! We sat at the bar - the best place to sit - and were taken care of by our amazing bartender. Started off with killer cocktails, then oysters (probably the best I’ve had in years), sides, mains, and dessert. I mean, if you are going to do it, you got to do it right! Each item was better than the last and complement each other beautifully. A must go for a random Thursday night or for a special occasion.

If Metzgers was Brittney Anderson on Bobby Flay Triple Threat, then Brenner Pass is her going out in the first episode of Top Chef. We loved the food at Metzgers, but was truly disappointed by our experience at Brenners Pass. The restaurant was so loud we could not hear each other talk and the design was very cold. The appetizers were pretty good and maybe the highlight of the meal but the tuna we had could’ve been totally left out of the dish because the veggies were so good and the sauce was so incredible, my friend had the pork belly and it was so fatty and had no flavor that he sent it back. My friend, the birthday girl loved her trout. It was very very tasty. I had the chicken masala and it was just OK. It was not the juiciest piece of chicken or the tastiest sauce. My boyfriend really enjoyed his cavatelli. Another friend got the trout as well and there’s was raw in the middle. Not like it was a rare piece of fish, but it’s just completely raw.We saw a lot of people getting the hamburger and we kind a wish we had as well. The cocktails were interesting and overall pretty tasty, but we will not be returning.

Went here recently for a date night. I had to make reservations with my credit card and there was a $20/person fee for not showing or cancelling outside of the approved time frame. Needless to say, my expectations were high. Fortunately, Brenner's Pass came through. Out waitress ran through the reach of the menu items for us and gave us recommendations. We ordered the charcuterie board, scalloped potatoes, pork belly and trout. The charcuterie was very good, with several house made items. The scalloped potatoes were delicious. There was a significant wait for the main dishes to come out, but it was worth the wait. The pork belly was good, very tender. The pureed carrot was cold, not sure if it was supposed to be that way. I would've preferred it to be warm. The trout was good, skin was crispy. It came with a salsa that was very sweet. For dessert, we ordered the white chocolate pistachio cake, cantaloupe sorbet and cheesecake. All were very good. The sorbet tasted like they had blended frozen cantaloupes. The ambiance was a mixed bag. We arrived at 5:30pm and it was still light out, most of the tables were empty and it was pretty quiet. By the time we left, the restaurant was full, candles were lit and it was pretty noisy. Overall, a very good experience.

I took my husband to Brenner Pass for our anniversary this past weekend. When setting the reservation, I did note that it was our anniversary, but did not make any requests. Upon arrival, I was struck by the genuine warm kindness exuding from all members on the staff. We were seated, where there was a subtle note wishing us a happy anniversary. Our server was exceptionally attentive, professional, and kind. He knew the menu inside and out, and was able to confidently answer any questions. He clearly enjoyed the food he was serving, and made informed suggestions. Our pumpkin bread appetizer was phenomenal. You need this in your life. The perfect blend of sweet and salty and well as a diversity of textures just excellent. My Arctic char was also a fantastic dish. My spouse s risotto, while tasty, was a bit overwhelmed with a certain smoky flavor. We finished with coffees and DELICIOUS zeppole with a decadent lemon sauce. In the end, as the server was bringing our check, he delivered a small celebratory cocktail but just to drive home the level of attention and service he noticed we weren t drinking and made sure it was a non-alcoholic toast. A small but very impactful gesture of kindness as my husband and I have been dry for almost 2 years. Thank you!! Your people made this night out a lovely experience.

We ate at Brenner Pass tonight and the food was top notch. Our server, Grant, outshined the food! He was knowledgeable, genuinely kind, and took the time to explain the menu items to us. We were super happy with our food selections (thanks to Grant) and super happy with the service! We could also tell the Chef puts a lot of thought into the textures of the dishes and knocked everything we tried out of the park. Thanks for a great meal and experience.

Service was fine, but when making the reservation they asked if we were celebrating anything and mentioned a birthday toast which did not happen. They were out of almost half the menu on our visit. The $55 ribeye was a good portion of meat but came out blue rare when we all asked for medium rare, and the sauce was too thin. The creamed spinach side was two or three bites at most. Absolutely not worth the price. Didn t have dessert as they were out of that as well.

Unfortunately like many of the places in Scotts Addition, it is overpriced and not worth the hype. Zeppole at the end of dinner were fine. Fondue had ingredients listed that looked great. Unfortunately, extra strong mustard covered half the plate that the fondue dipping ingredients came on, making them inedible. When we asked for replacement bread, we got it. Then when the check came there was a charge for the replacement bread. No where on the menu did it say half the fondue food would be covered in extra strength mustard. Maybe thats Swiss culture but pretty disappointing overall. If it is going to cost so much, it should be done well and transparently.

Looking for a cute romantic restaurant. I recommend giving this place a try. Service was 10/10, drinks were superb, I got the wine Horn State fair, tasted similar to an old fashion. dinner: the sea food tower was certainly eye catching and delicious but $80 was way over priced, baked oysters are a must try. Reseda Farms Ribeye was my main dish and wow it was 10/10!

Probably one of the best restaurants I ve ever eaten at. Menu was varied & subtly complex. Food pairings were unexpected and delicious. Waiter (Grant) was knowledgeable about menu (both food & drink) and made fabulous suggestions. We tried several things that we weren t sure about and loved everything. We ordered wines, mixed drinks, apps, entrees & desserts. Also pleasantly unrushed. If you get a chance to eat here, go! And ask for Grant as your waiter. Enjoy!

Brenner Pass is currently resting on its laurels a bit too much. Three out of four of our dishes were very good (the tartiflette, bolognese bianco, and duck) - the lone exception was the roasted oysters, which were borderline undercooked). The real issue was the service, which I felt was slow and inattentive. Our server didnt know if they had sauvignon blanc by the glass, while some dishes took forever to arrive. At the table next to us, we witnessed main courses for two of the group being brought in take-out containers - the restaurant had simply forgotten to submit - or make - these orders. These are little things, but at a restaurant of Brenner Pass supposed caliber, you expect better.

January 22, 2024

We reserved a table on New Years Eve with a fixed menu at a premium price. The portions were extremely small and I dont even eat a lot. We ended up going elsewhere afterwards for more food. The food also lacked flavor for this highly rated restaurant. Also I ordered an espresso martini and it was flavored with licorice even though this was not a craft cocktail on the menu.

December 22, 2023

I went to Brenner Pass last night with my husband and a friend, and felt distinctly... whelmed by the experience. What an uneven meal that was. Some dishes like the pork and duck entrees were notable only for being bland and dry, while the pasta entree was absolutely phenomenal. The steak tartare was just OK but too salty, but the beet salad was excellent. The dessert I got- the hazelnut torte- was truly terrible. It was only memorable for being one of the worst desserts Ive ever had at a such an expensive restaurant. My friend got something different (I forget what it was), and it was great. The cocktails were delicious, and I really did like our server. The service seems attentive without being overbearing, which I appreciate. Overall, Id say my experience here was more frustrating than anything else. They can obviously do some things very well, but others are just not very good. Unless youre lucky and happen to order the right thing, youll just get something that sounds interesting and ambitious but is just mediocre, bland, and overdone. Unfortunately, this place just isnt worth the high price at all. I dont think Ill come back.

For what we paid I was expecting better food and all of the buzz. Perhaps it was the dishes we ordered. The gnocchi was good but my fish was incredibly overly salted and it was a tiny piece of fish atop a roasted onion in broth. That was it. I dont need heaping portions, but I honestly wonder if something was missing from the plate. My husbands burger and fries was okay he says but he didnt think it was amazing. Service was nice and we enjoyed our cocktails and wine. Just dont think well be back by our own choice. Ive had better dining experiences at this price point.

December 22, 2023

While the service was super kind, I can t stress how bad this food is for these prices. Our appetizer which was gassed up to be a delicious dip for bread ended up being a bowl with just damn corn and mushrooms coming with no bread (20 bucks and probably couldn t fill a 3 year old). Then as someone who absolutely loves seafood, the trout for 36 bucks was probably a 4 by 4 inch square filet that tasted no better than the fish at Applebees topped with disgusting add ons. My girlfriend got the rib eye which was a tad over cooked but still enjoyable but later on felt sick and 50 bucks was crazy. As a couple of 20 year olds who were probably 15 years younger than the next oldest people, I love spending money on new meals and experiences but please stay away from this place. Truly ruined our mood for the night and would have rather had a night in.

Overall, the experience at Brenner Pass was stellar. The staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and they were wonderful at recommending dishes. The interior was gorgeous and modern (especially the bar) with earth tones, greys, and light wood. Its also very spacious inside so at no point do you feel cramped or uncomfortable. The cocktails we ordered were the Coy Mistress, Wasenhorn: From Ashes and Some Kind of Wonderful. The Some Kind of Wonderful cocktail was the star of the show for me because the clarified milk punch felt like drinking velvet and tasted almost like the best lemon bar youve ever had with a hint of dill. For dinner we had the focaccia, fried oysters, tartiflette, asparagus risotto and nettle agnolotti. Everything was pretty much mind blowing but I will say we were both slightly let down by the risotto. I think the flavor was supposed to be quite delicate and subtle, but the contrast against the other dishes which were jam packed with flavor made it seem a bit underwhelming but still very good! The tartiflette made me think of childhood, as well as the urge to go camping and do some cast iron cooking over a fire, basically it was the best cheesy potato gratin Ive ever had. The fried oysters were perfection, especially the base of roasted onion aioli. We wanted to fit in some dessert but just didnt have any room left. I cant wait to visit Brenner Pass again and I look forward to their seasonal menu changes.

This restaurant serves up a fantastic culinary experience equipped with both unique flavors and fine experiences. TLDR: It s difficult to say what you should order. The menu changes (oh so eloquently), but trust in your servers expertise. The cocktail menu and bar are on point. Check this place out for your next night out. $300 for fondue, 4 entrees, a bottle of wine, 3 drinks, 2 desserts, and 2 espresso. Appetizers: Plenty of seafood options but we went with the fondue. I very fun, and tasty cheese dish with excellent dipping options. Dipping the smoked prosciutto was my personal favorite. Entrees: The menu here changes to keep things fresh. The burger stays constant and I tried it. Super savory and topped with fondue cheese and crispy smoked meat. Others had the flounder, pork ravioli, and crab risotto. Personally the flounder with dill crème wine out for me. The chef here really knows what they are doing. Drinks: Fantastic wine list. Things you won t see elsewhere are here. They either have an in house sommelier or consult with a unique wine supplier. Cocktails are perfectly mixed and served with cut ice. Dessert: We tried the crème brûlée with fresh peaches along with the honeydew sorbet. Fresh blacked peaches mixed with the crème was sooooo good. I asked they put a candle in my espresso (it was my birthday) and as a fantastic joke they gave me a tiny 1 cake with a candle. Hilarious! Atmosphere: Clean, fresh, and well appointed. You won t be disappointed in this take on a lovely evening. Real candles provide ambience along with modern but comfortable seating. Staff: If I could put this staff in every restaurant I would never be unsatisfied with my experience. I hope they make a TED talk. Appetizers

Pros: Creative well prepared dishes that is served by a knowledge, friendly staff. Many of the dishes here are unique and full of flavor, great wine list and fully stocked bar with good bartenders. I have been multiple times and each time they did not disappoint. Cons: None really, it is an expensive place, but quality dinning experience are.

Went here last November for my wedding/elopement dinner with my wife and another couple to celebrate. Service was very friendly and cocktails were sufficient, but my Ossobuco was very raw at the bone...a seemingly impossible feat for a dish that is typically braised for a couple hours at least. I didnt send it back because I didnt feel like having a $35 entree reheated into a dry, tough, brick. I just microwaved it at home the next day for lunch...oh well. Likely wont come back again unless a friend insists. Its pretty disappointing for a place that is so highly regarded to not be able to cook a pretty straightforward dish correctly. I also had a drink order that never came to the table and I only remembered after I paid the check.

What a beautiful place! I had my birthday dinner there with 7 friends this weekend. Our server was knowledgeable, gave great recommendations, and made us feel so invited. The service over was impeccable, waters never empty, empty dishes whisked away so quickly! We did a lot of shared plates, small bites to start, and shared entrees, they did a full flatware & plates which was so lovely. The duck breast over polenta, tartiflette, and croquette we re the biggest hit but you can never forget a cheese a meat board. Our favorite cocktails were The Lords Work and Cap Gun Standoff, also to have 8 cocktails come out at the same time is always a great indexation of how the evening will go. Could not recommend this place more!

Zero stars wouldnt be enough. As Im typing this I am at a nearby restaurant that accommoded us immediately due to weather. We had a 5pm reservation here and we were sat under a canopy on the street corner as it started raining. We asked to be seated in the tent area but were denied for reasons that were very unclear and were still trying to understand what the reasons were. To top it off, the drinks we received were awful. The egg white sours they provided were a joke. It felt like I was drinking foamy orange juice. This is obviously an establishment that doesnt mind watering down drinks and providing subpar service to gentrified millennials who dont know any better. Avoid this place like the plague.

Lovely outdoor ambiance, friendly wait staff, amazing dinner and drinks. If you like burgers, get the Brenner Pass burger. As a fan of the show Top Chef, our first stop on a weekend getaway from D.C. to Richmond was Brenner Pass, helmed by Top Chef Portland contestant Brittany Anderson. Celebrating my birthday, we saw Brenner Pass as our main birthday dinner celebration. Heres our experience: 1) Food: The menu is Alpine inspired with fondue, cheese boards and gnocchi on the menu. Even the more American items like burgers have an Alpine spin to them (fondue on a burger- genius!). For a group of three adults and one toddler, we ordered the fondue, both burgers and agnolotti. Everything was very good except for the agnolotti, which was fine, but not outstanding. The cheese in the fondue was excellent and it comes with a plate of potatoes, bread, asparagus and speck. The Brenner Pass Burger comes with fondue on it making it pop. The fries that come with the burgers are perfectly fried. 2) Drinks: They have a full beer, wine and cocktail menu. They make their own cocktails that hit all types of preferences. As someone who prefers slightly more sweet drinks, I ordered the Escalation and found it refreshing. 3) Space: During the pandemic, they have outdoor seating only. An open-air tent is set up with small tables. When you use the restrooms inside, take in the space. Its beautifully designed and very welcoming. 4) Service: This was an area that needed improvement, but it was also a very windy evening, which I think threw off our server. Also, our table was in the corner, which maybe was hard to see, but service was very slow. It took 15 minutes for us to be acknowledged. If we needed anything, we had to proactively get out of our chairs and find our server. When she was with us, she wasnt very friendly. 5) Price: Its all more expensive, but were used to that coming from Washington, D.C. However, $36 for a smaller pot of fondue seemed a bit much. A nice touch was the personal card waiting for us on the table wishing me a happy birthday. :)

Overall great food! Last time I was there in September dogs were allowed on the patio and so we made a reservation for restaurant week and when we arrived with my harmless cockapoo we were told we couldnt have dogs and that we couldnt sit under the tent and had to sit at a table that was cold due to strong winds that night. I also thought there was a special menu for restaurant week but there wasnt.

Really wanted to like Brennar Pass but we were a bit disappointed. We waited for our first starter for 30+ minutes, after being seated first. The squid was overcooked and the risotto inside was a bit undercooked and grainy. The char was delicious, but underwhelming sitting on oversalted sliced potatoes, and way too expensive for what we got. The sunchokes were probably the best thing we ordered, but there was a bit too much chevre underneath, if were being extra picky. While the Brennar Burger had a lot going on, and was a bit salty, the fries were great. And lastly for desserts, the strawberry tahini sundae was good, and surprisingly large. The olive oil cake was tasty but the pistachio gelato with it was tasteless. Overall, underwhelmed and disappointed for an expensive meal.

For the price, this should be a better experience. We were first to be seated It, and it took over 35 minutes for our appetizer to arrive. During that time, nobody came to check on us or keep us updated. The food itself is not par with the cost. The $30 char is just a piece of fish over basic pan-fried potatoes-that were horribly salty, so much so I had to scrape it off with a fork to make it edible. The French fries with the brenner burger are fine, but nothing special; you can find equally good French fries at far lesser price points...the burger is sloppy topped with a comical flood of various sauces (also salty) which is a shame because the meat itself was actually very good. This is a case of everything but the kitchen sink gone wrong. The strawberry tahini sundae was by far the best thing we ate-well balanced and unique flavors. I wont be going back...theres far better in Richmond at this price.

I took my 3 sisters here for dinner while I was in town last weekend. I thought it was great, but do have opinions about the dishes and wine. Oysters were excellent. Cheese plate was standard and yummy although I wasn t impressed by 1 of the 2 cheeses. It was waxy and did not taste like much. Maybe that was intentional - the soft cheese was pungent and so creamy. It was incredible. The sauvignon blanc was not ideal - very oaky for my taste and did not remind me of a mineral-y and juicy sauvignon blanc - more like a chardonnay. The entrees were fine. We have 2 lobster pasta, beef tortellini and scallop fish. Everyone at all of their food, but my sisters hated the smoked eggplant purée. I thought it was jarring, but with the scallops it was a completely different flavor. The scallops needed some acidity (I think) but otherwise thought it was impressive the smoked eggplant was so intense alone and completely changed when eaten with the scallops. Service was good, mocktails a great option for the youngest sister or non drinkers. I am changing my 4 stars to 5. Even though I really wanted to be wowed by the menu, we obviously liked it bc we ate everything and had a great time - the wait staff was attentive but not intrusive. Food came out at the proper times and in order. Drinks always refilled (wine and margs). Overall great experience.

Weve been to Brenner Pass several times and have always had a wonderful experience but most recently was probably our favorite. We reserved seating at the bar and Justin served us. He was incredibly attentive and you could tell he really cared not only about the drinks but the food as well as he explained many of the dishes and the components to us in detail. Everything that we had was delicious and I could not rave more about the Fall 2021 menu. If youre looking for a nice, almost chef-table-like experience, I would definitely recommend sitting at the bar and asking questions about the menu and the drinks. It definitely makes for a more enjoyable and interactive experience!

Food was good but then again we didn t really get to try it because the kitchen closed before we could order. Our reservation was for 8:45 and we ordered appetizers and a bottle of wine only to find out the kitchen had closed before we could put in entrees. So.. there goes our once in 6 months date night... after ordering a $65 bottle of wine without being told the kitchen was closing. Why seat a table at 8:45 knowing the kitchen was going to close? We spend nearly $200 without eating an entree.

Their menu was divided into sections one of which was small plates and another of which was large plates. I thought large plates was going to be kind of like an entire meal and small plates was more like appetizers. That turned out to be kind of wrong which I guess is my fault so it doesnt bother me as much but what does bother me is the inconsistent sizes within those categories. My SO got the veal schnitzel and I got the rockfish, we were planning on just getting those two dishes when the waitress turned around and to warn us that the rockfish was kind of small and did we want to get a small plate as well. I was thrown off guard and asked for the Saffron risotto and she left. When we got our food the difference between the serving sizes was comical. Her schnitzel was literally going over the sides of her full sized dinner plate while I had a tiny portion of fish. I truly dont understand how these two dishes can both be considered to be in the same category. Also just in case, the Shaved fennel and celery salad that comes with the schnitzel is not what you would expect a salad to be but is just a small amount cooked and placed on top of the dish. I hoped that the saffron risotto would be enough to help me have a complete meal but it tasted of soap and was overall bland. Very disappointing, especially from such a well regarded restaurant. Only giving two stars instead of one because the waitress had a bit of foresight and the alcohol selection was fun.
