Hatchet in Richmond

Really good experience. Service was great and the food was magnificent. The one downside to this place is that their appetizers are so good you have to order them all and now youre full.

We had not visited Hatchet in a while and we re happy to try their Asian inspired menu. Started with cocktail, soda, and low-alcohol beer. Quite happy with their wide, but curated options of beverages that anyone can enjoy. For appetizer, we shared the crispy chicken bao (buns) with sticky honey lemongrass sauce, cucumber, pickled onion, cilantro, lime cabbage. Refreshing and light starter. The kid dinner options are Mac and cheese, butter noodles, popcorn chicken, and grilled cheese with choice of fries or dressed greens. Our daughter enjoyed the popcorn chicken and hand-cut fries. I had the koji aged NY Strip steak, after my first choice the Gochujang lemongrass short ribs ran out. The NY strip was cooked medium and on top of tasty miso roasted broccolini, crispy smashed potatoes and pea shoots. My husband enjoyed bulgogi lettuce wrap, which he ordered beef but got chicken mistakenly and the staff corrected the meal with his first choice. Overall, delicious and flavorful. The waiter was kind enough to get us complimentary creemees from their shop across the street due to the order mix up. Staff are pleasant and honor the time it takes to choose your drinks and meal as well as enjoy it. We appreciate they add in gratuity to ensure their staff are paid well. Best pulled pork sandwich in Vermont! I was starting to get worried I wouldn t find any seasoned food here! Also the atmosphere is super cool and the service was great!

Fun place. Great food and cocktails. They have a new menu as of late October 2024 with more big plates available. Their menu is part asian influence with classic options like smash burgers, steak frites, etc. RIP to their crab rangoons- hopefully they will be back on the menu soon.

I m super bummed to see some of the OG sandwiches removed from the menu. We re locals and loved being able to pop in or take out a quick Basic Bae sando. Sadly it s becoming a bit too expensive for a weekly bite to eat. 3 stars for moving away from an approachable small town joint - your food is delicious! Please bring back some of the more casual fare!

Did I enjoy the banh mi fries even more than a good poutine? Is the Hatchet smash burger the best thing between two buns in Chittenden county? I think yes on both fronts. Cant wait to explore more of the menu. Trip #2: explore the menu? Ha! Got the burger again, still fantastic. Oysters also solid.

Bahnmi fries were great. Bao buns decent. Pork dumplings very generic. (Ginger scallion sauce is just oily)

I love to drive and find new restaurants. Richmond had not had any good restaurants for a while. Yes, the Brewery has good food and good beer. I was not aware of Hachets, I was pleasantly surprised. I was early on a beautiful summer afternoon. So I was their only customer. The service was great. You have to realize I usually dine alone . I have become a student of staff reaction when I say one, and they are looking for at least two. I had smashed cucumber salad, which was done the way I like it. Dressing was very nice, and the dish was presented in a most appetizing way. I also had chicken dumplings. I am not a connasoir, but they were really good. Again, the presentation was suttle, but it showed they cared and knew what they were doing. It was beautiful in its simplicity. I cant wait to get back and try some other dishes

The service was interminably slow. As we sat there an hour for food to arrive, we remembered that the last time we ate here it was super slow. As much as like the menu, we probably won t be back.

Interesting menu and great food

We hadn t been to hatchet in a few years so we put it back it rotation. The whole meal including service was excellent. Rarely do 5 people all love their meal but that s what happened. Great drink list and lots of food options. Just a really perfect experience overall.

Didnt have the best experience here. We made a reservation for a very cold night and were seated right near the door. The 3 degree air from the door being opened constantly made it very cold and uncomfortable. We asked for a new table but were told had to sit there but the restaurant was 1/2 empty for the entirety of the meal. We were there for over an hour and just watched 5-6 table sit there empty. There was no reason we had to freeze near the door and eat with our coats and hats on. I dont think well be returning.

My husband and I s go to spot. Rarely do I ever review places, but this one is well worth it. Top notch food and service. Highly recommend!

Came in on Saturday night with a party of 6, including 2 kids. They were short staffed due to illness and we had to wait longer than we expected. Staff were very kind and professional and food and drinks were worth the wait. Very high quality food and cocktails. Excellent beer list. We ll be back!

Korean BBQ Meatloaf and Smashburger were delicious. Never thought cabbage and potato could be melded so well in the meatloaf dish.

AMAZING experience. The disco balls and lighting set a fun and funky mood which is what everyone needs every once in a while (or all the time). Also, the vegetarian/vegan selection is wide and diverse. Vegetarian options: Many unique, tasty vegetarian and vegan options. Dietary restrictions: So many different, dairy free, egg free, nut free, GF options. Parking: Large parking lot across the street from and one block away from the entrance.

Lovely environment, and we loved the menu choices! So many unique and interesting vegetarian and vegan options. Our first time seeing a vegetarian Bao option, which was TASTY. Our dinners were tasty but not quite 5 stars tasty. Close, but not quite. Good beer selection on tap. Super friendly staff. Easy reservation process. Would recommend!

Hatchet is a terrific spot. Set aside the fact that they always have good music playing, great atmosphere, and an impressive draft list. Hatchet has great staff, hard working and always smiling. Most importantly, the food never disappoints. Whether dining in or getting take out, it is always delicious. The creativity on the menu is impressive. Familiar and inviting is there, burgers/ribs/chicken sandwich, but you can also find a little daring in the green curry mussels, crab rangoon, or the roasted pork sandwich. Just a great find.

I love everything about Hatchet! I am usually the kind of person who orders the same thing all the time, but I cannot believe how many times Ive ordered off of the specials menu here - the kitchen at Hatchet seems to have unlimited imagination week after week & always executes. The restaurant itself also has a really warm vibe that strikes the perfect balance between being familiar and unique all at the same time. And the staff are just the coolest, most genuine people. They also have a ton of options for drinks - weve taken many friends/visitors here, and everyone was always raving about the cocktails & food. I am so thankful we have a spot like Hatchet in town. I m a regular visitor to Hatchet and am finally taking the time to put in a review. I frequent this restaurant for its comfortable atmosphere, friendly and competent service, and excellent food. I m working my way through the menu slowly- it offers variety based on your mood and hunger level- the staff are helpful for those with food allergies or preferences. My favorites include: agadashi tofu, bulgogi lettuce wraps, tuna tataki, and peanut noodle salad. The menu frequently changes so I never get bored.

What a great place. Staff were so nice and great communicators. Had a complex cocktail ( industry ) and it was well made with depth and balance. Had the Udon dish and was yummy. Big portion, but so tasty I ate it all. Everyone I. Our group (8 of us in all) was all very satisfied with the experience. Highly recommend.

The restaurant was not busy, yet we waited 10 minutes to get waters and another 15 minutes for our food order. The meal took 50 minutes to come out & the special appetizer was missing advertised ingredients. When asked about said ingredients, the wait staff unapologetically replied we are out . The pork belly added to salad was cold & rock hard. The chicken sandwich was super overcooked & tough. Our water glasses remained empty & when we asked about getting one of the carafes, which we saw on our neighbors table, we were told they are out of carafes . Staff were aloof and inattentive and frankly the food was just terrible. This was the trifecta of a bad dining experience.

We frequent Hatchet regularly and always enjoy amazing food, great service, and tasty drinks. Were loving the new menu and always get excited to see which new beers are on tap.

My first visit tonight! And it was great in every way! The staff was very attentive but not pushy. Food was great except I made a bad choice ..just my personal taste. When the manager saw I didn t eat he came right over to find out the problem. I explained it was just me but he still did not charge for my dinner. I would highly recommend Hatchet!!!

Fun restaurant in Richmond, VT. We stopped here to celebrate after an event, and had some prosecco and dinner. Staff was super friendly and they have a wide range of non-alcoholic bevies which is a nice touch as my partner doesnt drink. Food was not bad, but our soba noodles had a bit too much sauce that was super sweet- almost like a teriyaki flavor. I ordered wrong as there were other items that sounded more interesting. Salad was good and nicely portioned. I would definitely go there again, but order differently.

Not a very transparent business. Add a 15% service charge on every tab. Claim it is to pay the underpaid kitchen staff. I would ask why they just don t pay the kitchen staff a reasonable wage and charge an according price upfront. Also would question the math capabilities of the General manager. I would suggest a class on compounding percentages.

The menu was so progressive and almost bizarre that I was completely intrigued. I wasnt disappointed at all. One of the best out of the way spots Ive ever gone. Cant wait to go back.

I would give this 0 stars because we were denied service. Very sad and discriminatory. Makes the town look bad, will be taking my money elsewhere in the future.

Bad service, worse food. The host was confused and the server just didnt care, zero empathy from them. The kitchen was a joke, they couldnt even get a burger right. I ask for mid rare and they sold it to me raw. Raw and soggy. The bottom bun was like gluten paste by the time it got to my table it was so greasy. Luckily the top bun was ice cold, so I had that to look forward to at least. The fries were limp, grease soaked and soft; just the way nobody likes them. I informed the server of all of this and they said theyd let the kitchen know. I was just really glad I was charged full price for a burger I didnt eat. Still feeling hungry and thinking how can anyone mess up confections, I inquired about desert to find that there was none. Probably for the best. They talked a big game, but all in all Ill be very excited to never go back

And if you can order the Sunday Fried Chicken to go... do so.. you will not be disappointed. IT IS AMAZING! Update: I go to Hatchet at least once a week. Food and staff are always on point. It is my go to spot. If you are visiting for the first time for in person dining have your vaccine card and youll be all set. They do add a 15% charge for parties smaller than 6 to make sure staff is taken care of and I respect that. Good people. Good food. Good drinks. What more can you ask for?

Extremely rude. We have been going to the Hatchet for the past two years, as Richmond residents. This evening we walked in for a 4pm reservation at 3:59pm. We were met with We dont open for two minutes, go stand outside and I ll be ready soon. It was 30 deg and snowing. How about Welcome, I m still setting up and will be with you folks in a few minutes. Vote with your dollar. Will not dine here again.

I eat here often and am always impressed by how they continue to serve the local community and bring joy during this epically challenging time for the restaurant industry (and us all, lets be real). Last night the bartender recommended a great sour beer I had never tried and the Rice and Pickles were delicious and well portioned.

Great food and flavors. Fun cocktails and great beer menu. It is fairly pricey and the food can take some time to arrive at the table. Luckily the music and restaurant aesthetic is enjoyable and they have a new disco ball!

My partner & I just moved to Richmond and were very excited to try out one of the local restaurants. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. There a lot of eclectic little touches that really enhanced my experience. The service we received was absolutely fantastic. We loved our server. We ordered wings as an app. They were a good size, good price, and delicious. I would definitely order them again. My only complaint is that it came with some pickled veggies on the side that were lacking in flavor. They tasted like they had just been put in vinegar with no seasoning. There were also pepperoncinis in the mix; which definitely did not need to be pickled, and were one of my least favorite flavors of the night. I ordered the curry as my entree, and I have only good things to say about it. It was beautiful & delicious. The veggies were crisp and bursting with flavor, and the rice was cooked absolutely perfectly. My partner got the full rack of ribs. We were both mildly disappointed by this entree. When the ribs came out my partner asked if they had accidentally given them the half rack because we had expected there to be more than 5 ribs for $29. The ribs themselves were fantastic. They were really well seasoned, and perfectly cooked. This entree also came with cornbread, cabbage slaw, pickles, and mac & cheese. The cornbread was a bit dry, and crumbly. The pickles had the same problem as I described earlier, though these did seem to have a bit more flavor. The slaw was okay, nothing really stood out about it, but it was a nice palate cleanser. Our biggest complaint and disappointment was the mac & cheese. This dish had absolutely no flavor at all. I was questioning whether or not it had any salt or pepper in it. Even the flavor of the cheese its self was very mild. We were overall underwhelmed and disappointed by this entree. I definitely do not think it is worth the $29 we paid for it. Nevertheless, we had a good time at this restaurant and are excited to go back to try their burger selection!

Ive been to the hatchet many times, at least 20 times. It is local and convenient, but it is overpriced and the biggest problem is that the food is not consistent. Ive had overcooked burgers, fatty pieces of meat when ribs are almost $30.... No cheap beers on tap either. I give it a 3 / 5.

Great place! We loved the crispy cauliflower in buffalo sauce, lettuce wraps with tempeh option, spicy dirty fries, and summer rolls. Great tap beer selection, cocktails etc. Amazing vegan options as well. Vegetarian options: Many dishes are vegan or have a vegan option, which is really nice.

Food was underwhelming. My partner ordered a Szechuan dish and it was supposed to have crispy chicken - the chicken was soggy on the outside and completely dry on the inside. The vegetables in the dish were soggy as well. It was clear that it was not prepared correctly. Also, our waiter was a bit odd- he kept running across the street to chat with people that were working in a restaurant there. Not very professional, IMO.

Really good American Asian fusion food. Super high quality and tasty for the price. The bao and summer rolls were so good!

Decent spot. Food is usually good but with some very confusing concepts- like, why do the bao buns come with mustard? Makes no sense and flavors clash. Why is the lettuce shredded? The Rez does this too and it drives me nuts. It s like trying to do a fancy version of McDonalds style. Please stop.

We hadn t been to Hatchet since before the pandemic but were in the area and thought we d give it a try. We had a great meal. The food was good (bolgogi lettuce wraps were delicious), drinks were wicked tasty, and the service was on point. Interesting menu options too. They were also very attentive to my wife s gluten allergy. All around, it was a great experience and will be back in our rotation of spots. Dietary restrictions: Handle gluten issues very carefully; including checking with the chef on some new menu items.

Great menu, seem to rotate tasty new options through fairly regularly. Creemee window also has solid options available. Hatchet is our go-to when we cant decide what to have for dinner.

I have ALWAYS had a phenomenal experience at Hatchet. Whether it was dining in pre-pandemic or take-out for the past year or so, I am always treated to delicious food and excellent customer service. Highly recommend to locals and out-of-staters alike.

WOW!!!! We just had the Sunday Fried Chicken Dinner from Hatchet!!! OUTSTANDING!!! Everything was super fresh & prepared to perfection. The chicken is just crazy delicious! The service was fast, efficient and super-kind! I can not recommend Hatchet enough JUST GO!!

Really terrible food portions. Dont go hungry. Food was ok but nothing special. I had to eat a full dinner when I got home 2 hours later because I was still hungry. Probably better for snacking, wish they had advertised the portions as we could have gone somewhere a little heartier. Posted this three years ago and tried again. Still severely disappointed , the appetizer was decent , but the main meal was devoid of flavors, and Sam for my partner. We tried twice with sad results.

Wonderful service. They had just opened a few days earlier for indoor service. Dinner companions said that the Beyond burgers and fries were fabulous. Special shout out to the Dirty Burger Cat Fries. The special: big plate of mussels was superb. I loved the spicy red curry with pork belly. Rice was a teeny bit underdone, but otherwise it was delicious. All in all a great find! Will be back and highly recommend it for people in the area.

The food took for ever servers don t really care if you need anything the younger kids that host and bring water are amazing they should be the servers. We felt like we where an inconvenience food wasn t great server did apologize for the food taking more than an hour we asked for dessert right when we got our food but it was taking so long. After half an hour we asked for the check the dessert was still baking I believe 3 hours of our lives waiting in that restaurant oh and the cheery on top you have to pay 15% auto gratuity no matter how bad everything was just so you know. No matter how many people are at your table you still have to pay for that.

Great chicken sandwiches and burgers. Fries are great and seasoned with salt and rosemary, very addicting. Bees knees cocktail is very refreshing, they made it without alcohol for me and it was no issue. Looking forward to coming back sometime and trying other things!

The food was expertly prepared, and I thoroughly enjoyed their beer selection. The price for the quality of food was very reasonable. Especially in these times of hyper-inflation. The atmosphere reminded me of new age hipster eclectic, and the wall of hatchets was a nice touch. The service was excellent, prompt and unobtrusive yet attentive. Well definitely be back.

Dry chicken wings, overcook me, but what I dislike the most is finding out that they add 15% gratuity automatically Then give you a receipt with the gratuity space blank to trick you into giving them a gratuity a second time. Cheap ploy. Won t go back. Nice of you to respond and try to make us sound as if I don t think the staff doesn t deserve a fair wage! If you feel that strongly about it pay them above minimum wage and let the patrons add a tip? As it is I tip well above 15% (20-35%) but I don t need you cheating me or trying to scam a fast one- bye.

I so want to like this place, as there arent many dinner options in Richmond. The specials they post look yummy but each time weve gone, our top three choices are no longer available (due to running out of ingredient?). Its one thing to see a good description with a sold out sign on it, its another to think youve decided what to get only to hear multiple nos. One time at each ordering option(starter, dinner and dessert) they had run out! Went once on the later side so understood more and then intentionally went early to avoid that happening again...alas. Food has been ok. I want to give it another chance but hoping there can be a few adjustments to stocking up or communicating when all out. 2021 update: Have given it another shot and have been back twice! No issues like before. The bbq plate was surprisingly delicious and huge, burgers were also just right. Cocktails were yummy too. Glad we tried it again.

Very disappointing dinner. It had been a while since we had been to Hatchet. The Tokyo Caesar salad was very good with great ginger flavor. The Spicy Red curry bowl was not as remembered. The rice was cold. There was no sauce. It was spicy but could really use some coconut milk and curry. The dance music was strange and seemed out of place. The only dessert option was carrot cake. The service was very good but...

Great beer list and eclectic rotating food menu

Excellent and creative food, an awesome draft list and a fine-looking cocktail menu this place is definitely not the normal for Rural Vermont. From the beer and drinks to the entree and then to end off the evening with homemade churros was an absolutely incredible meal I will definitely be coming back.

Unique and original Good service

Great service and food! Our server was very pleasant and accommodating. We ordered Jalapeno and Corn Fritters and an order of Dry Rubbed Wings for starters. Both Excellent. Entrees were also great. Korean BBQ Fried Chicken sandwich was fried perfectly and tasted great. The toasted roll could not contain this sandwich. Big sandwich, Big flavor. The Chicken Tamales were spot on! Its tough to find a good tamale in Vermont. This is where you find them. Great experience. Will be back!

This is the strangest axe store Ive ever visited! When I tried to purchase their merchandise which is displayed attractively on the walls they offered me the alternative of a burger and fries. No matter, the meal was so good I left satisfied, especially after I added an extra large maple creemee. Dont forget the sprinkles! Still no axe though.

Was driving through Richmond, VT and craving a creemee and Hatchet came up in a quick search. They have a walk-up window which makes it super easy. They also have interesting flavors. That day the two on tap were sweet corn and black raspberry. And I had a hard time deciding between toppings (I almost got the fruity pebbles, it was a tough choice though to go with the more classic choice of chocolate sprinkles). So as far as flavors go, we got one of each... and while the black raspberry with chocolate sprinkles was the favorite by the last bite the sweet corn (no topping) really grew on me. The last melty bit tasted like the milk at the bottom of a bowl of corn flakes and I mean that as a compliment.

The burger I had a few months ago was memorable. Hatchet nailed the burger. Ive wanted to go back for a while, and got takeout tonight. Tried the watermelon and brussel sprout salads. The freshness and deliciousness is off the charts IMO.

Excellent beer selection offering some of the best of Vermont. Only tasted the fried chix sandwich and the potato salad. Both are also top notch. Great service in a great spot.

What a pleasant surprise. We went to a nearby pub for drinks and an early dinner. When we read the menu it was very limited,so thought wed just have burgers. They were out of burgers!! Someone in our group mentioned Hatchets. What a good move when we went there. Very varied menu,great beers and fantastic service. Would highly recommend.

Ive had solid experiences here. The other night I got the spicy chicken sandwich and it was stacked comically high like those burgers no one can eat. Removed a layer of goodness and suddenly I had a delicious sandwich and an extra side. Bonus! Seriously, it was amazing.
