1548 E Main St A, Richmond, VA 23219, United States
Snug gathering place providing draft beer, traditional Irish comfort food, music sessions & karaoke.
Initially intended to grab brunch across the street but wandered over here instead. Overall, the vibe is very on brand. Liverpool was playing and I imagine it's a great space to watch this if that's your speed. Sunday lunch menu had a good mixture of things. I was drawn into the special, which was a pork belly quiche with Irish cheese and green onions. This was ultimately quite fine. Big quiche fan but this wasn't my favorite crust nor my favorite cheese. And if I hadn't been told there was meat in it I'm not sure I would have noticed. The side salad had a nice balsamic dressing. What was most bothersome, though, was the size of the quiche. It was cheap enough but not really a lunch potion. Wish I had gone with a sanwich. Drinks were good-pretty standard. The service was astounding and everyone was so nice. Probably wouldn't come back for the food but if you want to watch some football (soccer) it's a nice option.
Great corner place, food was on point, Ruben was fantastic with the hand cut fries, husband got a sausage & gravy special. The decor is wall to wall and looks and feels like true pub. Glad we came in instead of that busy place full of kids across the street, Lulus or whatever. 2 thumbs up.
We had the best server and the atmosphere and food were amazing. Try the wontons and visit the bar. They have a great porch too. This restaurant is in a neighborhood in an old home.
Spectacular pub! Wonderful cozy barroom, quick service, and the finest pint of Guinness I’ve had in Virginia. Food was great too. 100% would recommend you check it out if you’re in the area!
Very nice food and service and we lucked up when there was an outside band playing.
Very authentic Irish Pub, when I say authentic, I mean it feels like you walked into a pub on the other side of the pond. Richmond's cobble stone road really completes the feel. Once you are inside, you feel like you are in a hole in the wall, dive bar. Then you get your food and you are blown away. Highly recommend!
Very cool, true Irish/British bar! I only had drinks, but I would love to sample the food soon! (It looked really good) Lucky for me, there was an "open mic" night where quite a few local musicians played some cultural tunes with an assortment of instruments. Very neat vibe and felt very cozy with very attentive and nice bartenders and patrons.
My wife and I dine here on a pretty regular basis. I love their food and the outside patio seating option when the weather is favorable. Watching/listening to the trains pull into the train station (in the back drop) is pretty cool. I regularly get the fish and chips which is some of the best I've had across the country. My wife loves their burgers and salads as well. Everything is always very tasty here, very fresh, with healthy portions and their prices are very reasonable. As regulars we highly recommend this Irish pub!
This has been my favorite place in all of Richmond for 14 years. Tommy Gladys and Helen are the best. You cant go wrong here!
this place has the best burgers i have ever eaten oh my god they are so delicious i cant even begin to explain how good they are
This is the Authentic Irish pub that all the others are trying to be. Traditional Irish music on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings is not to be missed.
decent place.
We always have such a great experience here!! We met the owner and he is amazing and super accommodating! We love Tommy!
Great food. Great atmosphere, outstanding beer
Friendly and attentive staff. Delicious food.
Good food, drinks, service and often has musicians playing music.
The greatest pub around
Something good
Rainy Wednesday afternoon in Shockoe Bottom. I decide to take a stroll and end up wandering into a charming Irish pub by the name of Rosie Connellys. I find myself immersed in a unique, friendly, and welcoming atmosphere. The bartender Lauren immediately greets me and suggests a drink after a brief conversation. Its exactly what I wanted. I swiftly fall into conversation with a diverse crowd of what I can only assume are regular patrons. Theyre nearly as welcoming as the staff and a delight to talk with. I happen upon a chance to speak with the Chef, a gentleman who goes by Dre, and he tells me of the special he has crafted for the evening. It sounds enticing. I decide to treat myself to dinner. The last thing I expected was to have one of the most well crafted meals of my life on this Wednesday evening. If you havent had the opportunity to experience this establishment I highly recommend you take the time to do so. My only complaint is that Helen had the night off. Everyone spoke so highly of her level of service. I guess Ill just have to come back again to see her!
Recommend the Guinness wings. Best wings Ive ever had.
Good
Had a great time here. It is very much like any pub Ive been to in Ireland. Maybe its because I went on a night unexpectedly with my wife to witness live music, and that was a treat. Had a lot of great beers, some cider and some stout, my favorites. The wings they have a seriously delicious. This is the pub to go to if you are in Richmond, best one Ive tried so far. And again the music was just a delight, lots of people playing some old celtic folk tunes, including some of what I had heard during our time in some pubs in Ireland.
If you love an Irish pub, you will love Rosie s. Helen and her father Tommy run a great bar. It s what you want in a pub, good Guinness, plenty of comfort food and great staff. They have a cozy spot that is great for a wedding after party. Would recommend over and over. Go reds YNWA.
Great Irish music 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month.
We had a large group on a busy night. We were treated well and food was good.
Fun atmosphere and good food
Great selection of drinks, and the atmosphere is very cozy. The food was delicious! The chicken curry was what I had, although I was still hungry after.
Loved this place. Visiting from out of town, we had a great dinner here. Service was beyond fantastic -- our super-friendly server took on the whole place and did it with style. Martinis were (sorry) terrible (although great olives), but we switched to beer and all was well. Irish Stew and Bangers & Mash were both delicious -- but portions were pretty small. In spite of the hiccups, wed come back again in a heartbeat.
One of the best pubs in America! The staff is truly wonderful, providing a friendly, cozy atmosphere for watching soccer (Up the Reds!), enjoying the live Irish music, or just hanging out with friends. Best fish & chips in Richmond, hands down, and the Bloody Mary is dang good too. And fair prices, to boot.
Simply the best place to have a pint!! Period
Great place! Good food and drink selections. Cozy ambiance and excellent staff and owners. Highly recommended
Cool place! Good service and definitely has that cozy atmospheric vibe of an Irish pub. Looking forward to sitting outside when it s warm out.
Great place food was awsome
This is an authentic Irish wonder nestled in the downtown area of Richmond Virginia. The atmosphere is AWESOME. The drinks are great, but the food is PHENOMENAL!! Ignore the American surroundings of Richmond and you are Ina quaint pub smack dab in some small town in Ireland. The service is excellent. We had probably fibe orders of bangers and mash brought to our table in the few hours we enjoyed in this surprising gem. If you make your way here, you HAVE to have this dish. The gravy is AMAZING and brings you instantly into Europe. This is a dish I could eat over and over (and over again!) When in the area, this pub is 100% a must to check out!
Had a blast. Great service even though very busy! Food was excellent!
Cute place, great location, love the patio seating
Excellent Irish experience.
They ran my credit card for a unauthorized amount.then didnt make me feel like I was supposed to be there .
Been coming here forever. Helen Sarah Stephanie and the staff make it feel like a second home. Food did delicious and comforting and the drinks are always plentiful and tasty.
Best pub in Richmond, hands down. Great food, friendly staff, and an awesome atmosphere!
Great fish and chips. Good atmosphere
I just found this review I supposedly posted (along with several others). I love Rosie Connellys . I would NEVER give them a 3 star review! The food, staff, atmosphere & fresh draft beers are the best!! The only thing better is the wonderful family that owns it!:)
Nice place to have a drink and sit outside. Did not order any food.
Great RVA pub!!
Great atmosphere
Im not sure why the hype about this place? Went on a Saturday evening. Bar area medium full, we were the only ones in the dining area the entire time we had dinner. Food was ok, not much selection on the menu. Service was good. Bar was mostly empty when we left. On a Saturday evening, Id expect a lot more life in an Irish pub with over 4 stars????
Typical Irish Pub! Good vibes!
The ambience looks great, exactly what you would think an Irish pub should look like! Very diverse menu lots of unique options solid burgers... Good stop for a night/bite out on the town!
Had the fish and chips, spectacular!
Lovely place run by wonderful people. Would go all the time when I lived in the Bottom. Has a very neighborhood like feel with great food/drinks/people. I try to visit whenever Im in the Bottom
I never get fish and chips. I got them here due to the atmosphere and friendly staff giving me hope they werent soggy nonsense like other east coast pubs. I was rewarded with great food. Wish the place was my neighborhood bar/lunch spot. The owner stopped by and it is clear people really love him and the pub. Definitely stop by.
Hi, Christian from the White Star in Liverpool, lovely to meet you all, hope you enjoyed your time back in good old UK Hope I can visit one day and watch some proper motor racing!
Food is 10/10. Our waitress was awesome, and the vibe in this place is genuinely wholesome. Awesome experience
We went to check out the session and it was great. I felt like I was back in a pub in Ireland. Our waitress was great too. I knew they were legit when they had Magners .
I come here every couple of weeks for the Irish session!
Very charm please, cool staff and cold drinks as should be
Best pub with great eats, atmosphere and people!
Great place to grab good food when in Richmond. Whenever we are in the area, we tend to stop in this establishment. A clean place with wonderful servers who serve a very satisfying meal along with some cold refreshments.
Cute small place. Drinks are cheaper than other places I feel. And its walking distance from the canal club for concerts so perfect to go grab a drink or two before a show! Not a lot of seating though.
Cool irish pub. Poured solid black and tan
Cozy Irish pub. Reasonably priced fare; good food. Well be back.
Favorite spot to enjoy food with friends. Theyre a top notch pub
Amazing Guinness. Great old school pub with a lot of character. Big seating area. Definitely a go-to spot. Good food
Thursday night burger night is the bomb. Go see Sara, the best server in town.
Best smash burger in town!
The staff is amazing The food is always amazing The atmosphere is amazing
This is that local bar we the bartender gives the best advice and you create great memories and friendships
This pub has an amazing atmosphere and the menu is clearly nearly authentically accurate. The beer (Guinness) is cold and perfectly pored. Probably the best restaurant downtown. I love it and will return!
Awesome atmosphere, was SUPER catering to an allergy, super great service, great ambiance, and overall definitely recommend checking out!
Good pint of Guinness, reccomond the fish and chips too eat. Staff very friendly. One of the better Irish pubs Ive visited outside of Ireland
I went to the Rosies for the first time in the spring of 2021, and Ive gone almost every Friday night since. The staff feels like family, the atmosphere feels like home, and its got the best damn Rueban Ive ever had!
Very cool Irish pub.
Perfect little Irish bar. Good food, whiskey and atmosphere
The closest you will get to a British pub in Richmond. Both the staff and the owner are very nice, and the service is fast. Nice outdoor area away from direct traffic. Great place to watch Premier league games!
Lauren the Bartender was very friendly and welcoming. She recommended the sausage rolls which were delicious and I never had to wait for a drink. Kevin who is a Chef there was very friendly and made me feel welcomed as well ( Kevin knows his sports ) I would highly recommend this Pub.
A genuine friendly Irish pub in downtown Richmond! Second and fourth Wednesdays each month are open music sessions that are wonderful to attend.
Food was decent.
Staff was very attentive and the food was delicious. Above all, the beer was amazing!
Comfortable place with friendly staff, great tap options, good bar food & a nice Irish / UK vibe without being clownish. Could make this a regular hangout spot....would be curious to see if they run PL matches on the weekends, or do an English football brunch with Bangers & Mash & such....
Excellent and authentic family-owned pub in the heart of Richmond. Great ambiance, food, drinks, and staff. Easy to pop in for a quick drink, but also a nice and comfortable place to linger with friends. Also serves up the best poured pint of Guinness in town!
Really unique British Pub in the heart of Richmond. Small and cozy inside. Lots of outdoor seating as well. Owner is originally from Liverpool. Cant comment on the food as I was there for a private event, but the beer was cold and the company great. First time there but will be back to try out other things.
One of the best Irish pubs Ive ever been in. The owner and his wife are a lovely couple.
$4 pints of quality draft beer? Holy cow, I havent seen that since the 90s. Classic bacon cheeseburger, hand cut fries, and a pint for $12 on a Thursday night special. Some friends and I rode the Virginia Capital Bike Trail from Williamsburg and stopped here for supper before taking the Amtrak back to Williamsburg. Just around the corner from the train station, on a closed street/promenade. Outdoor seating that is cordoned off. Wait staff was great, very friendly and attentive. About 10 different British beers on tap. Colorful characters on the promenade just added to the atmosphere. I wish we had a place like this where we live, but if we did, I am sure I would eat and drink way too much. This place was the highlight of the trip. I highly recommend this for DT Richmond dining and beer drinking.
Awesome spot! Overall vibe is really cool with excellent beer on tap at super reasonable prices which is unlike just about everywhere else in town. Real gem right in Richmond. Food is great too!
Food is fabulous!! The atmosphere is cozy. Service is great. A favorite I visit when in Richmond.
Very cool little pub. Enjoyed watching the world cup here. Will definitely be back.
Great place for Sunday brunch!
Great food and beer on tap
Helen, Lauren, and Amber are absolutely fabulous! The atmosphere is so inviting and relaxing and the drinks are exceptional. I come here with my brothers regularly and the only time I have ever been disappointed is when I end up needing way more honey mustard than I am provided ;) Otherwise, I am living for this place and all about it.
Always a great place to go for a pint and to hang out with friends
Great Irish Pub environment. They have all the little details right. The people are super friendly and the food is very good. Small. Plan your visit during slower hours then watch the regulars pour in. Worth it.
I love Rosies. Excellent food and a great pub atmosphere.
My favorite pub the owner is really awesome and amazing. Best Irish food.
An actual Irish pub in Richmond.
Very friendly wait staff, nice place for a pint or two.
Good beer, cold, service was very good too and in the end the bill was very cheap.
Great place enjoyed night life
If youre looking for the best Guinness outside of heaven and Ireland then look no further.
Pretty good food and selection of beer, but the location and seating is what makes the trip worth it.
Worst food I have ever had. I ordered the bangers and mash and it had absolutely no flavor. The potatoes were worse than microwave potatoes. DO YOU KNOW HOW INSULTING IT IS TO SERVE AN IRISHMAN BAD POTATOES. Please do not come here if you like good food and good service.
Rosies is run by a family from my home city of Liverpool and are the most welcoming, diligent and hard working people you could find. Since moving to Richmond from the UK, this place is my way of feeling at home, especially recently with the craziness of this world. Helen and Tommy make every single person feel like a friend. They serve incredible drinks, superb food and have created a warm atmosphere that simply cannot be matched in Richmond. They even recreate one of the my favourite chippy teas from back home. Thats how much they care for their customers. The owners of Rosies are now more like family and I am extremely grateful for their kindness and welcome every time I walk through the door. Also, the staff they have simply do not stop. They work incredibly hard to serve their customers quickly and efficiently. Always with a smile. They are clearly valued and cared for by the owners and that is reflected by the quality of the food and the superb level of service. The chap below, Wade, clearly is a bit of a melt... and with a name like that clearly isnt Irish. As an Irishman, he would know that bangers and mash is an English dish. But obviously a little bit of knowledge missing as well as a bit of liberal sprinkling of false heritage means hes wide of the mark about the food and the pub. Ive had the Bangers and Mash and its solid. Wade is clearly used to hot dogs and instant mash and needs to give his head a wobble. I am at Rosies regularly, as an ACTUAL Englishman who is accompanied by ACTUAL Irish and English ex pats who absolutely love the pub, the staff, the drink, the atmosphere and the food. Rosies isnt an English pub and its not an Irish Pub. Its a family pub. Run by real scousers with real heart. My home away from home. Thanks for everything Tommy and Helen!
The only bad remark is that I didnt find this place sooner. It truly is a home away from home and Ive never felt so welcomed by an amazing establishment like this one since moving abroad. As an Irishman we have a saying Guinness doesnt travel well, but that does not count for the pint of plain you can get here. That along with some of the excellent food choices that remind me of home and of the UK it really pushes that homesickness away. Anybody who is well cultured and enjoys a mixture of accents from here and abroad will enjoy the Ceoil, Craic, agus Cúpla Pionta in this place. It really is a home away from home for me and I have managed to meet some amazing people who I can truly call a friend both on the serving and the drinking side of the bar. If I could rate 100 stars, I would give them every single one.
I have been coming to Rosie s for about six years now. I was introduced to it by my husband who has been coming here for 20 years and has always loved it. They welcomed me as family immediately. Food is always excellent, service on point and drinks are delicious! I would recommend this place to anyone! Jess
This place is the reason why you become a regular anywhere. I ve been coming here for years and never thought once to leave a review because I thought that anyone who has been here knew the exceptional that is Rosies- Exceptional food with the best of service But most importantly the consistency of both. From the first time I walked in here to my most recent visit it s always been the same. It is my go to place to just get away or for celebrations whether it be birthdays or weddings or family gatherings pretty much for anything. Helen, Tommy, Gladys, Lauren , Sara, Stephanie , Kristen and the entire staff make you feel at home and will do whatever to make sure that you have a memorable visit. Thank you guys for being that home away from home for many .
Coming from Boston this pub has the Charm, staff and food, that reminds me of home! They could not make an outta towner feel more at at home than anywhere I have visited in Richmond! Oh and the Bangers and Mash are a must! Cant wait to go back
Easily the best pub in all of Richmond. Family owned, family run. Excellent service from the entire Front of House staff. The food coming out of the kitchen is delicious and prompt. Not only a fun bar to sit at, full of friendly regulars, but also a giant dining room if you re looking for a cozy, private dining experience. Did I mention the massive patio outside? Get a seat early on weekends when the weather is nice, it fills fast. The owners Tommy and his daughter Helen have owned the place for almost 20 years I believe. You can tell they are both revered by the clientele. Try a traditional Guinness and one of their tasty burgers. The Fish and Chips is also to die for. All around must visit if you re new to Richmond or here on travels. You ll become a regular before you know it.
Who is the new guy waiting tables?? He s cute
Absolutely adorable pub, lovely bartender from Liverpool. Our local server was also awesome. We only had drinks, but will be back because the fish and chips smelled and looked heavenly.
Perfect Guinness pours and the best fish and chips Ive found in Richmond.
Its always lovely to find a perfect pint of Guinness.
Loved it, very laid back, decent price!
Nice little dining space in the back staff was very nice
Stopped by Richmond on a road trip and could not have picked a better place to grab food and drink. Outgoing bartenders and plenty of regulars to make you feel at home. Plus fresh Guinness and tasty food. Would recommend to all.
Better than your average pub food.
Friendly, attentive staff and the kitchen was very quick, even for a late dinner. The food was delicious and portions were just right. Our server kept our beers fresh and I love that. The place had a great atmosphere indoors and out.
Food was hot and fresh
We did not try the food here, but enjoyed a few beers outside for happy hour. The service was excellent.
The Best drinks ever! I had mojito & Rueben. The best Ive ever had! Great atmosphere
Great place to have a drink. Or five.
Great drinks and food
Love this place!
Great spot in Richmond. Its a must stop
Great and legit Irish pub. Cozy first room could be straight from the island. The back room is more of a dining room. Great bar with all the traditional Irish drink offerings. The bar crowd was very sociable and the service was prompt. We only did drinks so cant speak to the food.
Tommy is always a hit. Been stopping by for years now. Great Place. One of the only places in RVa that serves Bushmills Black...commonly know as a black bush shot.
Great food and service
Best fish and chips this side of the pond!
Great place and good food. Always respectful employees and great service.
Everything youve dreamed of out of an old Irish pub. The bartenders cheerful and talkative, been there for years and know all the names of their regulars. Theres a sometimes quiet hum of chatter going on around you, the wall is adorned with Irish hallmarks and European decor. Its quaint and cozy, and I feel conflicted even writing this review as it reveals to others they too should absolutely be visiting this gem, as a true gem like this you keep hidden for yourself.
Great food
Great food and service
Cool English pub nice and cozy; get close with some mates and share some stories
Great food and service.
The only bar where the owners actually care about you. They know and ask how your day to day is going. Tommy the owner has been there to ask how a layoff to job has been. He never judged and the staff has always been amazing. This bar is a ONE OF A KIND!
Feels like a real Irish pub
Need a place to grab a bite before catching your train? This place is fantastic. Chill, friendly, and freakin fantastic food. As a vegetarian, I absolutely loved their black bean burger. Their fries are absolutely perfect - big hand-cut slices of happiness. Servers were super gracious. Thank you for helping me chill after a long day!
Happily surprised at this place. It looks like an authentic English Pub. The decor is nice and comfy. Had a reuben with fries. Very good sandwich, nice, cold lager beer, at a good price. Only remark is that it is a bit difficult to find a place to park. My suggestion is to park at the public place accross the street, you have to pay. It has those automatic machines that you pay with credit card.
Slow service, food was not good. Over salted meatloaf. Would not return.
Never a dull moment
Delicious, well made cocktails at a good price. The food was fair.
Great Irish pub in Richmond.
Authentic
Tommy is amazing and takes soo much pride in his pub. Ive lived in Charlotte for the past 5 years but its the 1st place I go when in town.
Love this place. Friendly faces, affordable drinks.
Great food and drinks. Wonderful staff!!
A pleasant surprise in Shockoe Bottom.
My boyfriend and I come here often! Great food, staff and the perfect pint of Guinness. We love the (dog friendly) patio :).
Great local Irish pub, even better food. The fish and chips are amazing. Thanks for the great service Helen.
They friendly food good and you have great performers
Brunch was delicious & as always the drinks were great. The crowd is always welcoming nice atmosphere
Whenever I find myself in Richmond I always find myself bellied up to the bar here. The customer service is amazing, the pours to the glass are generous, and people you meet and the stories shared are fantastic.
Amazing atmosphere and wonderful service.. I felt like I fell through the veil of time to find myself in a pub in the streets of Ireland..
I m hesitant to share this hidden gem of Richmond. Great food and even better service! If you appreciate the non commercialized pub where everyone know your name then this is it!
Great atmosphere, wait staff was great.
