Grisette in Richmond

Very pleasant experience! Found in Church Hill, Grisette has a reputation for casual fine dining. Staff is well informed and eager to accommodate. The dining area is tight but maintains intimacy. We started with a seasonal Eggnog. Light but boozy. Our waitress split the drink into two smaller glasses for us to share. Their charcuterie is highly recommended. So, we chose two cheeses (Stilton & Gouda) and two meats (chicken liver mousse & rabbit rillette). Included were pickled onions, gherkins, & fennel, and crusty bread. Everything was VERY good! Especially the c.l.mousse and the pickled fennel. My wife enjoyed her chicken with brussels, mushrooms, bacon, in a Dijon sauce. My entre was Catalan Stew consisting of a spicy, tomato broth with generous fresh, tender mussels, shrimp, and ground lamb. So GOOD!

Great location, comfortable setting, good bartenders.... nothing can rectify surly, confused waiters; overcooked meat; and small-town thinking. Avoid Grisette. There are better places in Richmond.

From beginning to end, our experience at Grisette was perfect. The space was warm and inviting! The staff were engaging and knowledgeable, and talked us through wine/food options in the most approachable way, it felt like we were chatting with old friends! The food was delicious yet comfortable! Would HIGHLY recommend and we will definitely be back - 100/10.

We came to celebrate a family birthday and found the meal anything but celebratory. Everyone in our party found the dishes severely oversalted, drowning out all the rest of the ingredients. While I love the way salt can compliment a dish, in this case it was all that was tasted, creating dishes missing all nuance and subtly. Some mustard flavor cut through in one dish but all were wrecked by the shaker. This meal was incredibly disappointing and missing all the qualities of a great French restaurant. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone. Especially not at over $60 a person (thats with no dessert or wine). As represented, the online menu is only a sample. It isnt well representative, in pricing or selection. Some menu items had increased in price by 25% without being updated . Vegetarian options: When I made the reservation I indicated that one in the party ate vegetarian. Despite this, the wait staff treated this as a strange accommodation and told me I would just have to take the one pepper Risotto dish on the entree menu that fit this description. This did not appeal, so I ordered a salty kale salad that looked vegan from description but was predominantly filled with cheese (ok, because I enjoy cheese but would have been a surprise to a vegan). I also ordered a broccoli appetizer that was predominantly salty cheese, with a few overcooked broccoli pieces swimming in the sauce. No point in going here as a vegetarian...besides a great slice of bread (presumably Sub Rosas).

It is the best spot in Churchill! I went the other night for dinner with friends and everything about it was great! It was such a good experience I forgot to take any photos! The inside is very nice and intimate. Perfect for up to four people. Im not sure how it would be with a larger party, but for four it was absolutely perfect! I got the Negroni which was perfect and we started with a cheese board with an excellent assortment of cheeses and meets. For my main, I had the seasonal chicken and dumplings which had a bit of a kick. I hadnt had any like them before and would definitely recommend trying them! They garnished with apple which was an unexpected yet nice twist adding a little sweet to cut the heat!

If you re lucky enough to be able to dine here, it will exceed your wildest expectations and more. Of course the food is delicious. They don t do a lot, but everything they do, they do perfectly. The highlight of our visit was our server, Andre. My wife and I agreed he was the best server we ve ever had. 10/10 recommend.

We went to Grisette based on the reviews here and as hard it is to believe, Grisette lived up to the billing. Service was excellent, knowledgable, personable, and well timed. We had a dealers choice prepared for us and it was excellent, we continued to drink rounds of them throughout our meal, a precise balance of fruity, tart, and gently bitter through the finale. The smorgasbord was delicious, we chose our own assortment, but it was totally enlivened by the accompanying pickles and fruit, and the bread, which was spectacular. I could have made a meal out of the bread and butter alone. We wwent steak heavy for dinner, though my wife had a duck breast, which she loved. We ordered both the steak upgrade, which was a dry aged strip steak when we were there, as well as the denver steak which is the standard steak frittes here. The strip was definitely worth the upgrade, a very nice piece of meat, properly cooked and accompanied by deliciously crisp and potatoey fries. The denver steak was fine, a smaller portion which would be better suited for a midweek meal for me, but not as succulent as the strip. Desserts are few, well executed profiteroles as well as a chocolate flan on ths night which more closely resembled a chocolate mousse cake, so rich, silken, and accompanied by scotch poached pears which would have made for a might fine dessert on there own if accompanied by some gently spiced vanilla alced ice cream. With all the drinks and upgrade steaks it was not an inexpensive evening, though one can certainly eat here on a budget. Even though it turned out to be pricier than expected the value proposition here is terrific, you get great food for your money. I hate to join the chorus and heap glowing praise on here, but if you can try it you should. Grisette should have. michelin star, it does what it does exceptionally well and with a sense of pride and passion. We ate on the patio, which we loved, but thats the only reason for the 4 star review for atmosphere which will bring down the score a hair perhaps, not going to keep us from returning though!

Met some clients at this restaurant and everyone had a great meal. The charcuterie board was amazing and our entrees were all on point. Highly recommend!!! Andres was awesome!!

Nice enough place but none of the food wowed for the price.

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely meal at Grisette from the warm greeting by Andreas to the final sip of French press coffee. Charcuterie selections varied and wonderful. Felt mustards overpowered our cheese selections so that could be passed, depending on your selections. The berry puree fabulous, do not pass on this! On site prepared bread is excellent and another plate delivered with a smile. We enjoyed pork milanese and steak frites, both with delicious flavor, frites done to perfection, pork had wonderful crisp coating and served with a lemon wedge. Milanese needs its lemon, love it. Accompanying petit salad a perfect match with its vinaigrette. Finally, although not needed, we had to taste the excellent house profiteroles as well as their special dessert of peach with pecan crumb tart. Oh my, what a peach treat to our taste buds. Seasonal so have to get there soon. This was our maiden voyage to Grisette but, happily, our relationship will continue. A lovely bistrot where you can dine comfortably dressed, relax and enjoy a delightful meal.

This is one of Richmond s best restaurants on par with Laura Lee s and East Coast Provisions. I had the brisket special and profiteroles. I was able to park out front. The cocktails are delicious

Their chicken liver mousse is no joke. Worth the drive to church hill just for that. The service is so friendly and efficient, courses are timed perfectly, and the food was sublime.

Delicious cocktails, really amazing food, and an especially delicious dessert. Great service too. Only complaint is that the two-tops are mostly in what should probably be a walkway. They are also tiny tables. In that sense, the experience didnt match the price point. Everything else was great.

Sit at the bar, trade jokes with the bartenders. Watch them make tasty cocktails while you snack on the smorgasbord (add a salad and its basically dinner for two). Its the best bar seat in Richmond. Their dinner menu is incredible too, but the bar. Seriously. Do it.

This is the perfect, quaint cocktail bar. I was able to explain what I like in a drink to the bartender and he made me a delicious cocktail catered to what I love. The meat and cheese plate was ad unique as it was yummy. And special thank you to this establishment for free tampons in the bathroom! It s the little things.

Definitely get the smorgasbord to start off. We had the pork, Cavalli, and steak frites, everything was delicious! Emma was an excellent server and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend! House cocktails were excellent as well.

Very cozy establishment with an upscale, bistro vibe. The food was phenomenal - the bread and cultured butter seem simple, but are not to be missed! We both had steak and frites - one of the best steaks I ve ever had. Cocktail: I ordered a bitter end gin cocktail. The citrus in it was much too strong and it tasted like floor cleaner. The waitress happily took it off of the bill. Being from Louisiana, we were afraid of missing seasoning in the food, but I stand corrected. Virginia has a real gem here.

I would like to write a positive review but that would assume we had a positive experience. I am from the West and made a reservation two weeks in advance of going based on the fine Google reviews I had read. What we did not expect was the smallest table for 2 that I have ever been served at, barely big enough for a bottle of wine and two glasses. (And as other reviews will confirm, I am not exaggerating.) Then there was constant wait-staff traffic on both sides of the table. Totally insulting for a meal of $230+ for two. Perhaps the most disappointing experience of the evening was taking our waiters glowing recommendation for wine that they were serving (at $20/glass) based on his proclamation that he was the sommelier! Having just read Grisettas website, he is most definitely not the sommelier, the owner is. It was a tempranillo wine, a variety that I have drank a great deal of over my life. My wife and I both found it to be anything but satisfying. We went on to order a bottle of my choosing, something far superior (at $85) and hadthe tempranillo removed from the table. Now, in all of my fine dining experiences over the course of my 70 year life, I have never been asked to pay for a wine that I did not think was up to the quality billed. But sure enough the waiter insisted on putting it on the tab. As for the food, very good with the exception of the pistachio cake which really missed the mark posing as a banana cake with a few nuts. Other staff members that we encountered were very warm and friendly. But, way too many other great restaurants in Richmond for us to consider this one again.

We used to adore this restaurant but it s changed in the last year or so. Originally, the brilliant, quality food, creative cocktails, and kind staff made it stand out, but now the meal feels rushed, is more expensive, the cocktails are weak, and the food does not have the same quality or attention to detail.

Had a great first experience at Grisette. Loved the limited menu, which featured several well executed French classics (Steak Frites & Duck Confit) alongside a wide selection of meats and cheeses to snack on. We opted for the Smorgasbord (highly recommend the chicken liver mousse). My wife and I sat at the bar which gave us a great vantage of the open kitchen; well definitely be back to check out the rotating menu next time were in town.

This was a really spectacular dining experience from top to bottom. The vibe is eclectic and bright, the menu was sophisticated yet approachable, the service was attentive without being invasive, and the wine list was exceptional (and hilarious to read, please never change the tone). This is now going to be a place I can t miss whenever I m in Richmond!

Its ironic that a 3 star review is Ok, because theres no real middle ground with Grisette. Either its an amazing dining experience, or its a bland, rushed meal with service thats a bit indifferent. Ive eaten here...I guess about five times now? Tips to consider with Grisette: 1. Avoid if youre vegetarian. They do a vegetarian main, but its rarely worth it. Stick with the fries and bread, or a cheese plate. The charcuterie plate is the real star of the show here. 2. Avoid during rush. They get busy, and work hard to flip the tables. 3. If youre eating elsewhere, come here for dessert! The bar is a great experience here, and they do wonderful cocktails. 4. As a French restaurant, its perhaps unsurprising that they dont really do beer, here. Wine or cocktails. 5. The service here can be the best in the city, but if theres a table next to you thats more fun or bigger ticket, you may fall off the radar. Vegetarian options: Avoid.

Weve been here so many times and its hands down the best food in Richmond. The vibes are excellent, the drinks are delicious, and the menu is always incredible!! We bring all our friends from out of town. You really cant go wrong.

Went here for my birthday dinner and it was one of the best meals I ve ever had. The wine selection was amazing and our server, Dane, was extremely knowledgeable, pleasant & friendly. Even though we had a really late reservation, we never felt rushed or like the restaurant was getting ready for closing while we were still there. All of the specials were sold out by the time we got there so I d suggest an earlier reservation but if you order off the regular menu you will NOT be disappointed. The portions were the perfect size and everything went so well with every dish. If you haven t been you MUST go! And if you get Dane as your server, your experience will be even better.

I rarely write negative reviews but first time dining at Grisette and not a good first impression. Be aware that there are normal tables which probably provide a nice ambiance but there are approximately 5 postage size tables in the middle of the main walkway that provide an significantly inferior experience. Despite requests to sit elsewhere, we were seated at one of those tables and found it very difficult to enjoy food or conversation (our bottle of wine couldnt even fit on the table). If you choose to dine at Grisette, request not to sit at one of those tables if you want to enjoy a dining experience that matches the price and reputation.

Bartenders attention to detail and knowledge is top notch. It s the place to go if you want to feel Parisian.

Even sitting outside on a nice day, was well situated, although inside would have been better. We ordered the anchovies, fettuccine and skate for 2 people. Everything was delicious and would return!

Wonderful date night spot! We tried the ravioli special at the time (this was back in October) and the chicken cacciatore, and everything was delicious! Prices/portions are very reasonable. Great wine/cocktails as well!

My husband and I ventured out for Entrecôte as the second date night out after having a baby. 10/10 would recommend- Calvin was stupendous - spot on recommendations for wine to pair with our steak, expedient service on a packed evening and fantastic ambiance. He made us feel like we were old friends. We will definitely be back!

My partner and I had the most magical valentines meal last night. The vibes were great, server was attentive (but not annoying) and the food was amazing! Only complaint is that we made a reservation for valentines on Jan 14 literally as soon as reservations were being accepted for Feb 14 and we still ended up at the table right in front of the bathrooms. We spent nearly $200 after tip on cocktails, apps and entrees and it was worth every penny! Parking wasn t an issue.

Very little time to eat. Had a fine meal but were given a very stern 5 minute warning that we needed to finish up after only having been there for an hour and fifteen minutes. That just isnt enough time for a meal at this price point. We were surprised that was restaurant policy but confirmed with the waiter that is the case during the week. Would suggest just grabbing drinks and a quick entree. Definitely not a place if youre looking to linger. Also found our interaction with the waiter to not be particularly pleasant. If youre going to rush people out the door at least be nice about it.

Grissette never disappoints. Get the charcuterie board and let the staff decide whats on it!

This place is amazing! Cute little restaurant with outdoor seating. My boyfriend and I came for a date night and sat outside where they had heaters to keep us warm! Food was absolutely delicious!!! I got the steak frites and my boyfriend got the duck breast. Both were very tasty! Staff was super friendly and the service was outstanding!!! We ll be back!!

We were really excited to try this restaurant. I don t know if we had a bad night ,but the food was underwhelming. Chicken Dianne, was a drumstick ? Ever try to eat a drumstick with a knife and fork ? Large wine list . Steak Frites , frites were tasty , steak was textured like a flank . Good service. Very loud , hard to have a conversation, tightly packed in. I feel it s more for a younger crowd 24-32. Fancy house cocktails were fun. It s not expensive for a nice restaurant, but it was too pricey for the food we received. Shame, had high hopes.

This is a very comfortable place to eat and drink. The food is incredible. But the star of this experience is the service. The staff are incredibly friendly, and they all own the whole dining room in a very organic way that Ive not experienced before. This was a top-five dining experience for me that Ill never forget.

A Richmond Gem! I went into Grisette with high hopes and had them all exceeded. Every dish we had was fantastic but a few that stood out: The in-house bread is delicious and the cultured butter is intensely umami, almost like white cheddar. The Steak Frites is a must-order dish. Last but not least the profiteroles sound very basic but are one of the best tasting desserts I have had from a restaurant. One thing that really surprised me was the awesome bartending staff. Jeremy and Eli had some amazing cocktails on the menu and even whipped up a few non-alcoholic drinks for us. I didnt know Grisette for its drink but is a big reason I want to go back!

For those who hate reading: food/cocktails/staff/vibe=absolutely wonderful. For everyone else: We headed to Grisette for dinner the other night, and it was such a beautiful experience. The staff is clearly passionate about what they do, and our server (which seems like much too basic of a description for what he delivered) made the meal such a warm and special event. The menu is small but mighty, and everything we had was delicious. The cocktails were so much more than basic riffs on classic favorites. The wine was excellent and the staff s knowledge/suggestions of an after dinner pairing was perfect. Fries with aioli- why was the aioli so extra delicious? Do they hand feed the chickens and sing them to sleep before they take the eggs to whip up this dipping situation? Poached cod with some tableside bearnaise and sweet little root vegetables nestled around like a crown- I almost forgot to share a taste with my partner. Orecchiette with beets and pastrami beef hearts- amazing! We finished with a little snow capped pavlova, and I felt a little sad that our meal was over. We ll absolutely be heading back and look forward to our next meal there.

One of the best meals Ive had in Richmond. Immaculate vibe/decor with friendly staff. Tasty, creative drinks. And the food. Oh my god. One of the *rare* times Ive had a steak cooked properly at a restaurant (lol). Impressive especially considering how busy they were- usually a busy dinner service means overcooked meat. For our appetizer, masterfully baked bread which paired beautifully with the olive oil and anchovies with Aleppo pepper. We were sopping up that fishy, spicy liquid gold with our fries long after the bread was gone. The cassoulet almost made me cry, it was so darn tasty. Had an Anton Ego in Ratatouille moment. Not to mention the profiteroles. I could drink that chocolate sauce by the gallon. Perfectly balanced deep chocolatey bitterness/sweetness. Go here. Go now. You wont regret it.

Grisette is one of my favorite places in the city to bring all my friends and family to. The food is always delicious and menu is constantly changing based on the seasonality of ingredients, which always keeps you excited to come back. Bring a date and get the smorgasbord, a bottle (or two) of wine and any of their entrees and youll go home happy.

It s hard for me to vocalize how great this place is. People are incredible and the food is the bomb.

TLDR: The food, drinks, and service were on point! Highly recommend and will be coming back! Long version: Loved exploring the smorgasbord (let them choose) with the highlight being the chicken liver mousse (it was sooooo good). Shared a beet salad and steak frites which both had good portions, were delicious, and overall were a great value. The cocktails were fab and very well balanced. Because we were celebrating a birthday they also welcomed us with a complimentary glass of champagne and sent us off with a complimentary dessert!

Here is the absolute must try for any serious connoisseur: SMORGASBORD - try a wide variety of meats and cheeses. We had rabbit, chicken liver mousse, and sliced cow heart. Unbelievably delicious!!! Great service, great wine selection, great entrees and desserts!

Incredibly good food, service, and atmosphere. Also, Im pretty skeptical of charcuterie boards at restaurants but they have a really impressive homemade selection and its easily the best one Ive had.

Had the steak frites and a two-cheeses board tonight, plus vermouth to start and a red wine. Service was great. Portion size was however unbelievable. Literally, almost illegally small. Both for the steak and the cheeses. The steak was four slices, two of which were half slices. This is really not ok in my opinion. Also, the steak was really low quality, so I m very much with this review from a year ago: Ive had the steak frites here twice, and each time the steak was bad. The first time it was overcooked to medium well instead of medium rare. The second time the steak was so tough that it was hard to cut it with a streak knife and nearly impossible to chew and swallow. Im familiar with the dish, and I know Im not getting a dry aged ribeye for $23. However, to serve something that is barely edible is not acceptable. If the meat is that tough it should be braised, not seared. Based on my xp tonight, the place definitely doesn t deserve a 4.9 rating. Worth to check out if they fix the portion sizes. Seriously disappointed actually.

The best thing I had at this place is Smorgasbord that you get to choose your own combination of meat and cheese so you don t stuck on the ones you don t like. I had the chicken liver mousse, rabbit rillette and lamb terrine, cheese names are not familiar so we asked for recommendations they Are all very good. For the main I had Bouillabaisse There s barely and squid in it and A piece of fish, there are a lot of broth but not much flavor to it and I don t know if should drink all of it or what to do with it. There s not much mussel flavor int he broth either despite with a bowl of mussels in it. My spouse had the steak there s barely 5oz of beef, portion is so tiny. And also over cooked. Service was fast but the seats are very tight the table is tiny you have to squeeze in the plate. Very tight spaces

The service, beverages, starters and atmosphere were all great. I was surprised by the steak frittes because the steak was very tough. Not tender at all.

Grisette is a trendy spot with a select menu of French food and a unique array of cheese and meat options. Pros: fantastic cocktails and wine, high quality charcuterie options, cozy vibe and friendly service. GREAT bread and cheese. Cons: tight space, not super accessible, reservations required most days. There was a line to get in without reservations when we showed up at 4:50 before they opened! Really, we enjoyed everything we ordered at Grisette except for the pasta dish. The flavor of the sauce was fairly grassy, which was a bit overwhelming. Otherwise, the meal was lovely and we d definitely return for a special occasion.

Only great things to say! The service and food were both impeccable. There is a limited menu but everything on it is fantastic. Definitely get a side of garlic aioli if you get fries, it is seriously addictive. Highly recommended!

We had such a lovely experience here. The food was delicious, and it was amazing to have 3 alcoholic drinks, 3 starters, a main, and a dessert only to have the bill come to $100! The thing that really put this meal over the top was our server, Andrés. What an absolute peach. Im sure the other staff are equally fantastic, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that he made our night go from good to great. Well be back for sure.

Everything about this place is fantastic. The food, the service, the atmosphere, just an all around delicious place to eat. It s honestly not even as expensive as you d think. I don t think I could put into words how much I love this place. Everything is top tier - the staff, the food, the atmosphere. I trust these people so much that I don t even make selections apart from what my main will be. The folks here haven t steered me wrong with anything be it wine, cheese, charcuterie. I m torn between wanting to see them succeed and be busy but wanting there to be a seat for me whenever I want. If you haven t been, go!

Met 3 friends for dinner last week here and had a meal for the ages. I arrived a little early and sat at the bar and had a drink while waiting for our table and the rest of my party. The bartenders were friendly and made a phenomenal drink. Once sat our server Andres was one of the best Ive ever had! He was super sweet, had great suggestions and we immediately felt comfortable leaving parts of our orders solely up to his discretion (meat and cheese and also wine to some extent). And at the end of the night when we didnt quite have room for dessert he read us perfectly and suggested the most heavenly French press coffee. Could not be happier and cant wait to go back! The restaurant itself was super cute and had the ambiance of a small French Cafe. Cant recommend enough!

Great food I believe with a French accent , great service always waiters or another person checking on you , non alcoholic beverage delicious , big variety of wines , great selection of cheese and pates . No vegan options . Small place so make a reservation . Consider adding at least one vegan dish . Great experience in Chimborazo Park area . Thanks

Great food, unique place, options for all palates. We decided on a fairly diverse meal with a charcuterie board, branzino, and steak with several different drinks - cant go wrong with any of the above. Really great spot to check out in Richmond. Service was incredible. Felt super unique. And I loved the menu. I want to give this a 4.5-star rating, because its definitely a top-tier dining experience when it comes to Richmond. However, the branzino was a bit drowned in the sauce and it didnt feel like a 5/5 option for me. But I will certainly be going again to see if I can bump up my rating to a 5/5 and will always suggest this as a great option in RVA!

Really enjoyed sitting at the bar and enjoying the quirky/masculine atmosphere. Would probably not try the cocktails again but am excited to try the Non-alcoholic fare!

Andres took incredible care of us - we had cocktails, an awesome wine pairing, yummy tomato carpaccio, steak frites and fettuccine with shrimp. While the food was great, it was the down to earth, energetic and endearing staff who made our dinner incredible. Thank you!

I had a really nice time. The food was great, and so was our server. I had the raviolo, and I was really impressed by that nice runny egg yolk. My favorite things, though, were the smorgasbord and the profiteroles. My husband doesnt eat pork, so it was really amazing to be able to choose meats that hed like too. We didnt know what cheeses to choose, and we appreciated our servers good advice. The profiteroles were just so much fun, and they werent too sweet. The atmosphere was fun. Everyone was super responsive. It was just a great time! Update: went back for the smorgasbord, and it was delicious. We didnt have a reservation, but they were able to seat us at the bar. The service was just as good as last time. It was a 5 star experience.

Best steak frites ever...

Charcuterie was delicious. Saw all the great reviews for steak frites. Found it over salted and over cooked for medium rare. They change the other menu 2-3 times a week. I m sure other items would have been better. Feeling like it was overhyped.

Everytime I walk past this place I smell the frites! Food was great, excellent flavor combinations perfectly cooked. The indoor atmosphere was intimate and the old timey and mismatched plates added so much character. Our server was very nice and attentive. Definitely recommend this little neighborhood restaurant!

We had a great anniversary dinner thanks to the awesome staff at Grisette. The weather was definitely on the chiller side, but each outdoor table had its own space heater, and each chair came with its own blanket. The cocktails and food were all incredible (highly recommend the duck). Special thanks to Clay, who went above and beyond!

Excellent small location. I was in Richmond for about 24 hours and this place came highly recommended. It did not disappoint. Got the special, which was a halibut on a potato dish with some mustard greens. Absolutely excellent. Took the waiters recommendations, overall an excellent experience.

Food was delicious - all 4 of us had a different entree and none disappointed. Love the fun mismatch of plates and cutlery and overall atmosphere, only oppty was the lighting as we were at a corner table and it was super dark.

Absolutely loved my first time here! Everything was delicious and the house cocktail with mezcal was a 10/10. I wouldn t have changed a thing about the steak frites or profiteroles. Andres was a stellar server - knowledgeable, friendly, and responsive. He created such a welcoming environment. Can t wait to go back!

This is the real when youre here youre family. An absolute gem. Ive never had a dish or a drink here anything less than delicious, and everyone that works here is just like honestly a wonderful person. We love sitting at the bar and having a cocktail and a cheese or two. Chicken liver mousse is insane. The steak frites are lovely but dont sleep on the seasonal plates, these guys are making magic. Just comforting and delightful, god I love this restaurant. Walking home from Grisette is the best feeling.

Absolutely lovely! Grisette is easily one of the best restaurants I ve been to since moving to RVA a couple years ago. My partner and I celebrated our anniversary there this past weekend, and everyone and everything was AMAZING. The staff especially deserve to be recognized, everyone was so kind and welcoming. Oh my gosh, what a fantastic little restaurant. The food was fresh and the service was AMAZING, even during a very busy time of night and in a packed space. We were seated at a bar style table looking out of the window, so I thought being waited on might be a little awkward for our server. Nope! I ve rarely been so impressed with service before. We were seated almost immediately and wanted for nothing pretty much our whole meal. The food was unique and I m assuming pretty authentically French (although I ve never been there so I can t say for sure) I couldn t help shoveling it all down. Portions were perfect. If I lived in VA I would go here at least once a week. You will NOT regret your visit!! Pictured is their sausage gnocchi and one of the beverages-I think their tea cocktail.

Minimal food menu, which I liked. Enjoyed what we got thoroughly: Roast beet dip - good, horseradish only on the top. And the bread served with it was great, especially the buttery rosemary bread. Arctic char - the skin of that salmon was so deliciously flavored. Steak frites - I loved the bernaise sauce, my girlfriend loved the steak. Fries crispy and fresh. Lemon tart - crust is pastry dough, not a shortbread crust.

A great evening. Perfect halibut, subtle cocktail, very pleasant service. Cant wait to go again.

My wife and I had dinner and drinks tonight at absolutely the best restaurant in the city! Grisette is simply amazing! We had a local Malbec wine that was divine. I had the duck breast and mushrooms which was so wonderfully cooked! It was savory and filling. My wife had the Hake. She couldn t stop taking about how the fish just melted in her mouth!! My friend Donnie the Chef and his staff really take pleasure and care in preparing some of the most amazing food I ve ever eaten. This was our second trip and we ll definitely be back again soon even though we have to drive about 40 mins to get there. I 100% recommend this restaurant and will be telling everyone I know to come and eat!

Absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! The food was to die for, I cant believe how delicious everything was. The menu was creative and classic, and I would eat every single thing on it if I thought my wallet could handle it. Divine.

This is the place. The best little spot in Richmond. The food leaves me speechless. But better than that. The people are the kind folks you wanna be friends with. They care about making delicious food and they care about their guests. We love Grisette. This place is like coming home.

Absolutely outstanding from start to finish. The wine/beer/cocktail selections were plentiful, lovely bar. Our server Jackie was brilliant from the time we entered until we left, extremely welcoming, never hovering, but always available when we needed her. Our appetizer, the anchovy dish was fresh and simple, and somehow a carnival of flavors. The mussels were light and delicious, and the rockfish buttery and melted in my mouth, yet still very light. The profiteroles were wonderful. Idk who curated the Playlist, but that too was perfect, as was the ambiance. All of our selections had a beautiful balance of decadence and simplicity. I encourage all to visit/support.

What a meal. Every dish was flawless and delivered in a huge way. Service was exemplary. Started with some raw oysters that were so fresh and cold. Beautiful mignonette. The fresh bread appetizer may have been the best bread I have ever eaten. I could have had 5 of them. Steak Frites and the Pappardelle were all exquisite. This place is right up there now with L Possum for best meal in Richmond

The best service I have had in a while. Went for dinner on a Thursday with my best food friend, and we loved our server, Emma. She was attentive, knowledgeable and made wonderful suggestions to help create an outstanding dinner experience. Loved everything, from the food to the cocktails to scent of the candle in the bathroom. Will return!

Great steak frites and I highly recommend the charcuterie plate.

Ive had the steak frites here twice, and each time the steak was bad. The first time it was overcooked to medium well instead of medium rare. The second time the steak was so tough that it was hard to cut it with a streak knife and nearly impossible to chew and swallow. I couldnt even finish it and my jaw hurt by the end. I informed our server and they told me that steak frites is just a cheaper cut of meat. Im familiar with the dish, and I know Im not getting a dry aged ribeye for $23. However, to serve something that is barely edible is not acceptable. If the meat is that tough it should be braised, not seared. Grisette does have some stuff going for it. The service is good, the charcuterie and wine is great, and the other dishes Ive tasted are creative and amazing.

Grisette is truly one of the best restaurants I ve eaten at, all over the world, period. Not only is their food delicious (hello steak frites!), their wine list is also perfect. Their service is also always great they remembered us on subsequent visits and celebrated my accomplishments with me. Jac particularly has been so wonderful to get to know. The worst part about leaving Richmond is leaving Grisette.

We had a great experience there recently when we went to pick up our wine club wine. We did the Smorgasbord, and let them pick the meats and cheeses. Everything was excellent. Our son enjoyed frites and Profiteroles. We really love the wine club that Grisette and Jardin have put together (see my Jardin review for more info).

The best meal in Richmond!

Food - mixed results. Outstanding charcuterie but tough and rubbery main course steak. I liked the fluke en papillote, husband didnt. We both liked the frites, profiteroles, and tasty olive oil cake. Ambience - very loud and shrill, hard to relax.

We loved the phenomenal service and enjoyed a small charcuterie plate (1 cheese, 1 meat), with a great cheese picked for us. The focaccia that accompanied it was delectable. We each had the steak fries, which were delicious. And, not going to lie, we had both the panna cotta and profiteroles. The panna cotta texture was amazing, though there was a bit of a flavor I couldnt quite identify. The profiteroles were just pure sugary goodness, with the perfect crunch on the pastry.

Dairy Queen ain t got NOTHIN on this fine establishment.

My husband and I enjoyed a date night at Grisette and it quickly became one of our favorite restaurants in Richmond! The food was great but the service and atmosphere were phenomenal. Andres was our server and his excitement and knowledge about the menu was palpable. We walked in and were welcomed and joked with like old friends! It really was a wonderful experience! We will be coming back and bringing friends and family!!! Great work!

Staff was very friendly, food was excellent (well thought out menu) drinks were on point and the desserts were awesome. The atmosphere inside was inviting and it felt like a casual restaurant with fine dining. I would definitely recommend if you want something a little more upscale and fancy without the stuffy prestigious vibes of an upscale and fancy restaurant.

The food is simply amazing. The drinks are expertly crafted. The staff is second to none. Wonderful place to eat and I would consider a must try.

Service was great and the meal was high quality. We ordered a cheese plate, steak frites, and pappardelle with shittakes. The place was busy the whole night, and felt cozy but not overwhelming.

I love this place. It has a kind of French Wine Bar feel. Very comfortable. I went here after a wine dinner at another nearby restaurant. We had small plates and an amazing bottle of red wine, something French. Another plus is the fact that they are true patrons of the fresh local food movement. Their menu includes produce from my farm, delli Carpini Farm.

A true culinary experience. The menu is limited in size but its because everything that they do, they do it well. Its also a great place to grab drinks at the bar. The wine list is impressive.

We decided to take our two dogs walking up near Church Street, and were planning to sit outside, and do brunch (the weather was AMAZING). The place we originally planned to go, apparently didnt open for another 40 minutes, so we decided to walk a bit with the two pups, and find another brunch destination. That is when we came up to Grisette. This place is great!!! The place was full, and no more tables available, due to reservations. However, the manager managed to find us a two-person table, close enough to where we could tie up the leashes for the dogs. The menu for brunch was short -- we liked that!!. Also, it just so happens that this place is open only ONE DAY a year, for brunch, and we just happened to be part of it (Sunday, 11/6/22) --this happens EVERY year. Normally, this place is only open for dinner, which, by the way, is on our list to try next time we are in Richmond!! We were not that hungry, so my girlfriend and I ordered the pastry basket and Smoked Trout plate, along with coffee. Everything we ordered was simply delicious, and perfect to start off our day. The pastries were fresh and from a neighboring bakery called The Fat Rabbit Bakery, coffee was fresh, and the Smoke Trout dish was fantastic. Also, the location was nice, relaxing, and definitely worth the price.

Grisette is magic and you should go. Or dont: I can get a table more easily that way. The restaurant manages to feel like both a cozy neighborhood joint you can drop in on and a fine dining destination you book weeks out. The menu is tight and focused. A few classics stay such as the steak frites and the anchovies (ohmygod, the anchovies) but new options come and go frequently. A given week might yield various dishes you dont see every day or everywhere. Stewed rabbit, grilled octopus, fried ramps: you name it. If youre just thirsty, their bar is worth a visit alone. They offer excellent, innovative seasonal cocktails and a really great wine list. FOH or BOH, everyone Ive interacted with on the staff is kind, attentive (without being too attentive), and exceptionally knowledgeable about their offerings, from the cheeses on the chalkboard to the varietals in the Vin de Pays. This is clearly a staff that is carefully hired, well-trained, and takes a lot of pride in their work. For what its worth, I feel like I see folks smiling and laughing a lot with each other. Always a good sign in a work environment. I was moved to (finally) write this review after leaving last night and thinking not only have I never been disappointed, they nail everything, every time. You cant say that about most places. Grisette is not most places. Were lucky neighbors.

I loved the profiteroles (and the meal) I had for a birthday so much, I thought about all the time this entire year. We went again this year to celebrate with friends and had the same dessert. They gave it to us on the house after I mentioned to them that I thought about it all the time! Split a smorgasbord, multiple entrees, a bottle of wine, cocktails, and desert with five people. After splitting cost it was still super affordable for a night out/celebration meal!! Highly recommend going all out family style

Came here for wifes birthday dinner with a group of 8. Man, this was so so good. We had the bread and butter, fried and aioli for apps. The aioli was out of this WORLD. I could ve ate an entire jar of it. Fries and bread were great. I had beer but everyone that had cocktails loved them. The Haus of Edwards was incredible. For mains, the orecchiette pasta dish was fantastic. I hate mushrooms and it has mushrooms in it i ate every last bite. Dessert was a peach tart and the profiterlas that had fresh chocolate poured on them. Incredible. Wish they had a candle for happy birthday but we sub anyway. Lol. Service was awesome and quick. Just an incredible experience.

This was an unexpected quaint place with a pleasant atmosphere. The drinks are fun and tasty and the food was not bad. The staff was pleasant, the atmosphere was good, everyone seemed to be having a great time. The drinks menu is longer than the food menu. I was there for the drinks which did not disappoint. I would return.

Sausage Gnocchi 5/5 -Very tasty Chicken Cacciatore 3/5 -- the chicken and pappardelle were solid, but the sauce was really, really salty (this from a guy who likes a LOT of salt on his food) Cocktails 3/5 -- Generous with the liquor but not a whole lot of character flavor-wise Profiteroles 4/5 --Tasty but unmemorable Pretty good, all in all. Worth the price. Judging all the 5 star reviews I expect we just caught them on an off night. Well be back at some point.

Looked forward to eating here after seeing all the positive reviews, but our experience was meh. Even with a reservation, we were placed at a tiny table in a high traffic zone. The Bernaise sauce on the undercooked steak frites resembled an oddly sweet salad dressing; the accompanying fries were unsalted and there was no salt shaker on the wee table. Even after ordering salad and an entree and dessert for each of us, we left hungry.

Wine selection is excellent. Dessert is fantastic. But when it comes to quality price ratio, the restaurant can improve. The prices don t match the quality. I understand its fame given by some news outlets, but other options in Richmond have a much better quality/price ratio. Service can certainly improve.

One of the best dinners my family and I have had in Richmond. Arguably the best part was our server, Jackie. She was PHENOMENAL. Her knowledge about the menu was impeccable and definitely made the experience even more amazing. We will be back!

Croques and champs and cocktails, oh my! Happy hour is back, at the bar, from 5-6!!! (pictured: croque madame; draft cocktail of the moment; cava) We also ordered the leeks vinegarette, beet agnolotti, and carrot cake (all ravenously gobbled before I thought to take photos). And all faaaabulous! Esp that agnolotti w/ goat cheese, oyster mushrooms, walnuts, and oranges. Yall, I dont even like mushrooms. But I always know whatever I order here will knock my socks off. I had to use a lot of self control to not lick the plate clean!!

This place is special. It has a great warm, neighborhood vibe while still feeling upscale. The meal was incredible - the rock fish and sausage are the perfect fall meals - and the cocktail and wine lists are super impressive. It s easy to understand why they have so many regulars. Highly recommend

Our dinner was amazing. The service was stellar. Jacqueline was the most efficient waitperson we ever have had.

The food and service was excellent! My only complaint, albeit minor, was the seating situation. We were seated at those tiny tables between the bar and tables against the wall. Anyone thats been to Grisette probably knows. It makes it kinda cramped for everyone and inconvenient for the staff (if the server was talking with us, she often had to move out of the way for another server to get by). It didnt ruin the experience for me and Im sure everyone loves extra tables - just putting it out there that you may get seated there with two people.

In a city with hundreds of amazing restaurants, Grisette consistently serves unique food with flawless execution, one of our favorites!
