Side Chic in Richmond

OHHHH absolutely loved this place! The interior is adorable, and the atmosphere is so cozy. The service was top-notch, and the food was amazing especially the chicken tenders and mac and cheese! I ll definitely be making this a priority stop every time I visit Richmond. Highly recommend you go you won t be disappointed!

I went to a Bixining Tournament at Richmond Convention Center. Driving for Parking we past The Side Chick. So we took a chance. Didnt know what yo get my People brought the Wings. They had a reddish color. Whatever that seasoning was we realized we didnt need sauce. I also like how the sauce wasnt drowned on top if the chicken . Its a family business I basically met them all that day. We had a great conversation and he taught me about business in Richmond. I wish them the best and hopefully they open one in Hampton Roads.

Absolutely amazing food, service, atmosphere and oh did I mention food is absolutely amazing. I had the Cajun chicken sandwich and fries omgee they were so good. Chicken was so juicy and crispy, the lettuce and tomatoes were so fresh! My bf had the chicken wings and oh course I had to try one and I can definitely say I was very very satisfied. The portions were worth the money and I love it. The staff is so nice and welcoming. They make sure you are well taken care of. Must try!!! Im going back this weekend!

My wife and I had an opportunity to dine in at a most unique spot today, Side Chic Located in the historical Jackson Ward section of Richmond, this little hole in the wall is phenomenal! Great atmosphere, the best chicken sandwich I ve had in a while! The (portion size was large enough for 2 sammiche s) Very reasonably priced! You gotta check this spot out!!!

Coming from Colorado this spot was a hidden gem. I got the Honey hot chicken sandwich. I was blown away with the size of the chicken and the taste was a great balance of sweet and heat. Ill be back! Great warm welcoming folks I appreciate yall

Fantastic food. Small mom and pops plane but very delicious. I was part of a mini rush some 2:30 and the co-owner, Lou, was on top of it and personable enough to make sure I knew his name as he delivered my food.

I was brought chicken tenders and pickles by my fiancée to eat in between our games at the Peoples Battle of Richmond Roller Derby Tournament. These tenders were SO. GOOD. I literally carried a couple of them into my teams warmup to finish eating. Was it a good idea to eat fried tenders and pickles before 1 hour of a full contact sport? no , but it was absolutely worth it and Ill probably make the same mistake again soon. Thank you!

If youre looking for a good fried chicken joint in Richmond, this is it. My wife and I just had dinner here, she got the 4 piece tenders and I got the Carlas house special chicken sandwich. Be warned, you wont (re: cant) leave hungry. 4 tenders might seem like not much, but these things are basically an entire chicken breast a piece, trust me, 4 is plenty. These tenders won over my chic fil a devout wife, although she made it only through 2 of them. The sandwich was gargantuan, the chicken exceeds the bun by 2 inches around, and 3/4 inches thick, the accompanying sauce was just the right amount of spicy and flavorful. The fries were seasoned in a way that reminiscent of the best fries I ever had in Iraq, sweet, salty, and spicy balanced really well. Everyone there was very welcoming and kind as well. I generally dont post restaurant reviews often, if at all, but I felt pretty compelled to after my experience there.

Let me preface this by saying that the 2nd Street festival was in full effect and Anime Ink Con was happening. All that being said, our service was less than desirable. Our wait time was three times longer than we were advised, which given what was happening was understandable. People that ordered well after us getting their food before us is not. When the order did come out we had to ask multiple times for things like our drinks, utensils and napkins. We never got napkins or the water (until we were leaving). The chicken was tasty and well fried. Given the time it took our order to come out I assume that there was an ex con named Frederick out back butchering fresh chickens. The waffle was just a plain flaccid waffle. No flavor. Just waffle. And limp. The staff was nice and pleasant. That means a lot. I m going to need to revisit on a regular Tuesday or something to see if this was just an off day. No napkins though.

Over the weekend, I had a really disappointing experience at the restaurant. I placed an online order and was told it would be ready at 7:30 PM. When I arrived, they hadnt even started on my order. They claimed they issued a refund, but when I showed them they hadnt, they said they would make my food. The chicken tenders and fries they gave me seemed like they had been sitting out all evening and were just reheated. To make matters worse, there was a very rude male employee who was disrespectful to several female customers. He should be fired as hes bad for business.

Chicken was pretty good, a little dry but quality was fine. You will have to wait a while for it though, might not be worth it.

THIS FOOD WAS AMAZING YA LL! This was one of the best restaurants I ve ever been to in Richmond (and I ve lived here for about 9 years now). I had the wings, catfish, jambalaya, green beans, mac&cheese, and cajun fries and they all FAR exceeded my expectations.

My wife and I came up from Lexington, NC for Collect-A-Con and stopped in. Met Lu. The catfish is the best I ve EVER had, and the chicken tenders were equally as good and HUGE. Will definitely come back when in town again. Absolutely amazing. Also, food is cooked fresh, nothing just sitting , so, expect a little bit of a wait, but WELL WORTH IT!!!!

The staff at Side Chic were very helpful. They were catering a local event, so the wait for chicken was quite a while, so we ended up eating a fish platter, which was good. Well definitely go back for some of the mouth-watering chicken weve heard about.

Yall! DO IT! I saw the reviews on this place and made the jump and it did not disappoint! I ordered the tenders covered in Thai chili and barbecue garlic, and boy did they COVER them. I mean slathered. There is nothing worse than ordering sauced up tenders and only half the tender have sauce on it. These tenders were drowning and there is nothing better!! There was no shortage of this bangin sauce. I also got the hush puppies and I am a hush puppy snob. These things were banging! They had butter on them and they were so moist on the inside. And so dang good. I wish I would have ordered two batches. Also, I never order sweet tea out in public because no one makes it good/sweet enough. The owner gave me some to go and I am BLOWN. I am so sad I don t live here because this would be a regular spot for me, I would also be 400 pounds. Please go to this place and support this business so I can get my tenders every time I come to Richmond.

It wasn t bad, just not my favorite and a tad overpriced. The downside was the longgg wait for my food. It may be better to place an order for pickup to avoid the wait. The person who serviced me was nice, but a bit overwhelmed manning the orders for takeout and dine-in. The Mac and Cheese was good, but they could have held the grease. The chicken was ok, but not a fan of the batter.

Unbelievable food only a 10 minute walk from VCU s medical campus. One of the best chicken sandwiches I have ever had. Great value too as the portions are huge. Husband and wife that own the place are super nice. A must-try in Richmond.

Stumbled across this small gem while in RVA. Definitely glad to have found it. Great menu and appreciated the special of the day. 3 wings with a side and corn bread. I have three wings with green beans and added potato salad. Daughter had wings with fries. Everything was great, chicken dropped fresh so a few minute wait but soooo worth it! The green beans and potato salad was some of the best I ve had ( definitely a family recipe) Owner was very attentive and nice (thanks Lou) allowed us to eat inside even though they were about to close. Lu and his wife were super sweet! My friend and I visited on the 4th of July with the intention of getting wings and a few other things, but they were sold out of the wings! I was so sad, because the wings looked sooo good on social media but we decided to get a chicken sandwich, shrimp, fish, and a variety of sides. Everything was seasoned very well and is made cook to order so its fresh! Our food took about 20 minutes after ordering. My friend and I sat and watched tv near one of the screens they had. The portion sizes were pretty good; the catfish is HUGEEEEE. We really enjoyed everything we had. My friend especially enjoyed the potato salad. Im a little sad they ran out of chicken, but I understand that it was a holiday. We were actually one of the last customers of the day because they had sold out of everything after us. Wishing this business the best of luck and I cant wait to come back to try the chicken!

I ordered the chicken fingers and waffle. The chicken was hot and juicy, the house dipping sauce was a little spicy but had good flavor. The waffle and syrup had a different flavor, maybe a little smoky. Quite good. I didnt think to take a picture till after I started eating! I am so full.

My hubby and I were out at the Richmond convention center and wanted to get some food nearby. My husband said he wanted to try sidechic. First off, the name of the restuarant is hilarious, but we were especially sold at the fact that it is walking distance from the convention center and Black owned. The restuarant atmosphere is quaint and laid back. The customer service is A1, as we were greeted immediately upon entering, and checked on throughout our meal. Now to the food, Ah-maz-ing! Everything was made to order, fresh, and well seasoned! My hubby got wings and requested all drums, and he was accomodated without a hitch. I got chicken nuggets, and we got an order of fried catfish to share. First off his wings were big and juicy, and they didnt skimp on the sauce! My chicken nuggs were lightly battered, juicy, and 100% chicken breast meat. The fried catfish was just as delicious and lightly battered. Fish was fresh and flaky, and you can tell it was real catfish and not cheaper low quality fish (that some other restuarants sell to save a buck). Lastly, we tried carols sauce which had a slight kick and paired perfectly with everything. I wish I took more pictures of the food, but we tore that food up! Lol. If I had to choose a comparision, it reminds me of Zaxbys but with better quality. I wish we lived nearby or wed come here weekly! 10/10, definitely will come again. Telling all my friends & family to check this place out

Was a very nice spot not crowded at all clean and the food was bar none. Best chicken sandwich I have had in a very long time. EVERYONE needs to try this place and I will be back when I come back to Richmond.

Picked up a chicken sandwich as Side Chic was one of the closest food spots to the convention center for Nightmare Weekend and WOW. Genuinely did not expect one of the best dang chicken sandwiches in my life. Im not kidding. Better than any chain chicken sandwich Ive had in recent times.

This is the cutest black owned restaurant I ever seen. The service was amazing and the food even better. Food was excellent. Would give 5 stars if the prices were more transparent. I ordered the deluxe on the menu that was $11, it says it comes with bacon and the owner confirmed it comes with fries. I got the check for $17, 2 dollars for tax and the rest was add-ons, which was apparently the fries and bacon according to the owner. I dont mind the price, but I do mind being tricked into paying it.

You know those little hole-in-the-wall joints that serve good food? Side Chic is one of them! Generous portions and service with a smile. My fried chicken sandwich was delish (sadly they were out of the baconthat should have been on it). Mozzarella sticks are served with a side of sauce. The fries are a bit too spicy for my liking but some Caesar dressing cooled them down just fine. As others have noted, this place is easy to miss, but worth keeping an eye for. If you are attending the Convention Center, its such an easy walk! Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible.

If you re in the Jackson Ward area of Richmond, and you re looking for wings, do not walk to this establishment RUN to it. In the competitive world of wings, this place absolutely reigns supreme in the Richmond area. Owners are beyond inviting and accommodating to dining needs. The wings are my goodness each wing is like eating darn near a whole piece of fried chicken. Their drumsticks and wings are huge and so flavorful. One of my two 12-year-old girls ordered six with cajun sauce, my other girl ordered six with lemon pepper rub and I ordered six with Thai chili sauce. None of us left a single bite. That was after we opened with a basket of amazing fried pickles. You have to try this place. You won t regret it.

Side Chic is owned and operated by a husband & wife duo who after managing fast food restaurants took a leap of faith to start their own. When I saw the name and logo I was very curious how they came up with but it s not what I was thinking at all haha but it s very heartwarming. The restaurant is kind of hidden from the street but there s a huge banner and signs guiding you in. It s very cozy inside, with TVs, humorous chicken puns on the walls and there s seating to dine in. I ordered the fried chicken wings and tenders combo, the classic chicken sandwich, cajun fries and mac & cheese for sides. Y all that chicken was seasoned to perfection! It was hot and fresh too! Everything was amazingly delicious! The owners were really nice and I will definitely be making a point to support regularly! Go check it out y all!

The Fried Pickles OMG! By far the best prepared and most delicious in RVA. Lemon Pepper full wings...Yess! I spoke with the owner and all of the food is homemade, real, and freshly prepared. Cooked with recipes passed down thru the family. This is by far an amazing gem of a place. A must if traveling or living in RVA.

Good food good people, try the homemade bisquits and you wont be disappointed! Wings are on point and cajun fries were perfectly seasoned.

They arent lying about being the best chicken in rva. I got the tenders, fries, and hushpuppies and it was 10/10. It was all delicious. The house sauce great too. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. I went in 3 times and they had a smile and friendly each time. Place is clean and theyve got movies playing in the sit down area. Highly suggest this place!

Went here over the weekend and it was amazing fresh hot chicken tenders, delicious blueberry biscuits, Mac and cheese so good you want to smack someone. Anytime I m wanting chicken I m gonna go out of my way to head here!

I was heading to some other restaurant called cheddar jacks and passed this place and said dang that looks way better so i stop with my mom to check it out and when we get in we are greeted by the most friendly guy ever i got the chicken sandwich and my mom got the nuggets IT WAS FANTASTIC it was all the right flavors the frys were crispy and good this place just needs more recognition the guy serving us the food was attentive and fast he made the experience so much better

The service was great. The wings were hot a fresh. I will definitely be back to try some of the other things on their menu.

Small literal hole in the wall place near the convention center. I absolutely LOVE the entrance and the atmosphere here. The food is amazing and totally worth the wait, trust me. Hubby and I stopped in during a lunch break from the HEAV convention. We had the chicken sandwiches with fries, drinks, and fried pickles. If you love fried pickles like we do, youll love the fried pickles here!

The food was amazing. We decided to eat here during a home schooling convention so it was extremely busy but definitely worth the wait. The prices were very reasonable. Even with the wait the customer service was great.

Awesome vibes. Staff very friendly & helpful. Food yummy. Loved the lemonade. . Cozy dinning area with flat screens . Restroom clean well stocked Parking: It was couple spots available near by. But more in walking distance. Also, a loading only sign out front, so should be good for quick pickups.

Dont judge the outside, go inside and have your own experience! The food is delicious, the (fried shrimp) is my favorite entree, and the ice tea is the best in the RVA area. I love the ambience, with the (smooth jazz), and you can also watch a movie while dining. The owners husband and wife really love what they do! I try to make my way down to Side Chic once a week. Im addicted!

Food was so amazing! Drove 2 hours to get and was worth the drive. The service was incredible and so lovely best customer service i ve had in a while. I got the chicken and waffles which were so delicious and flavorful. I got the hush puppies which were so incredibly and soft. Mac and cheese was so cheesy and fresh. I went to Side Chic on Tuesday and all I have to say if you love a good meal that hits home and touches your soul then you need to run and go get some top tier, A1 food. Excellent customer service, clean, good movies playing, nice background music, and did I already mention the bomb food you need to be going to get :). If I lived in Richmond then I would be eating here at least 2 times or more a week. Everything I ate was to die for but my favorites is the taplia fish, shrimp, the honey garlic wings and that mac n cheese, I m wanting more by just typing this but just go support this black owned business it won t disappoint at all.

They store was the best omg. I was very hungry from all the driving I been doing. I was in the mood for some chicken and waffles. When looking this restaurant popped up. I was like I try it. It was so good very clean and quiet they even let me watch was on TV the food was so good can t wait to come back again. Customer service was the best oh yea it s even black owned I just loved it and the environment. I recommend anybody to try the food.

Best food and great service. I usually dont go for chicken tenders in restaurants because its usually bland. But these chicken tenders were the main star of the show. They are marinated over night and you can taste it. All the food is cooked with love

Got a chicken sandwich and nuggets both w/fries and some Carlas Sauce with the nuggets. Excellent chicken! That Carlas Sauce packs a little heat and is very nice! Staff were very friendly and welcoming, looking forward to coming back!

While we waited for our wing order (thai chili & honey garlic- recommended by the owner as their faves) we got to try the fried pickles! Went to this place last night and not only was the food good but the owners interacted with us as if they had known us all of our lives. I had the lemon pepper wings and they did not disappoint! Can t wait to go back!

Ordered online, which they were accepting orders. In the middle of wednesday. Google says they are open all day wednesday, updated hours a week ago. I pull up at 2:45 completely closed. No one answering the phone. Why post hours and accept orders if you won t abide by them? Edit: They updated their hours after I posted this, no response from them still.

If you want the best tenders or chicken sandwich, this is the place to go. Great customer service, family run, and good portions. Highly recommend!

Omfg just go! I had the garlic shrimp and Cajun fries and I literally died from how good they were! I highly recommend! The owner is super sweet too and gives out good recommendations! Will definitely make a 50 minute drive to come here! (Way better than captain D or boathouse or literally any seafood place)

Yo - this place was amazing. The chicken tenders were super juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Buffalo wings on point. Service was on point, kind of want to go back to be their friend. THIS IS THE HOLE IN THE WALL YOU HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR. I went to Richmond for a convention and didn t feel like buying over priced food. So I decided to walk 5 minutes to Side Chic. We were immediately greeted by a very nice gentleman and I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere. I got the catfish with Cajun fries, the serving size was enough for me to eat more later which was awesome. The food was so crispy and flavorful. I was blown away by the whole experience

Not from the area and was looking for a good lunch. Side Chic is amazing! I had the fried pickles and premium chicken sandwhich with the house sauce. The chicken was amazingly juicy and crisp. Everything was delicious and the owner was fantastic! Planning to go again tomorrow for lunch before I go back home!

I placed an $100.00 order on Uber eats to try and support this small business. After waiting for 30 plus minutes for my order they straight up just canceled it. Probably will never try to order from them again. That s so ridiculous.

I loved my first but not my last experience at side chick. The owner and his wife were extremely personable and provided amazing service. You have to try the mimosas and the jambalaya and the chicken bites!!! The cornbread was a crowd favorite! Big shout out to Lou and his continued success with this establishment.

First and foremost, the food is pretty dang good in the world of fried food. My chicken tenders were fried to a beautiful color which indicated they were seasoned properly, and the breading was a perfect layer which was super crispy but not to thick. The flavor was on point and these were some of the JUICIEST chicken tenders Ive had. The fries could use a little work as most were super short and couldve had a little bit better texture, however, that Cajun seasoning make them worth it. The service was friendly and pretty quick. Only real critique on my part is the interior atmosphere could use a face lift, but if thats all I could critique then Id say they got something good going on here! Prices are a little high in my opinion, but everywhere has jacked up prices so what can I say . Overall I enjoyed my meal, will come back and probably try their fried seafood.

If you are ever downtown Richmond and youre looking for lunch, then go to Side Chick. We needed to eat something before our event and it had to be within walking distance from the Convention Center...what we found was way beyond our expectations! The man who took our order was so personable and pleasant. I dont like chicken breast so I was somewhat apprehensive. I had the chicken tenders and waffle. It was the absolute best chicken I have had since I was a child! Perfect! The waffles had a hint of spice and the warm syrup was a very pleasant surprise. He apologized for the wait because they only had one person in the kitchen, she obviously did not compromise because of lack of help! Fresh, perfectly cooked, seasoned so well and you could tell it was prepared by a wonderfully skilled cook. My son said it was better than any 5 star restaurant in Richmond! I agree! Sooooo good the Thai chili wings were amazing the sauce was everything!! Also loved the hush puppies and the sauce that came with that. I m def coming back to try the shrimp & the other Cajun sides look so good too. Also the owner was so nice great customer service and vibe. New fav in RVA for sure!

They had really good fish, well seasoned with a lil heat. Had one of the best crust to a fish I ve tasted. The chicken pieces were also really good. This place is super lowkey and should have more exposure. 10/10 would go again when visiting Virginia. Ps. I got super busy but promised the owner I d come again.
