The food and service was on point. The both we sat in was hard on the buttocks. My salad was filling yet it caught me off guard with the salt. I have never experienced taking a bite of salad and thinking it was salty. The more I ate, I can see how they were attempting to play off the sweetness of the craisins. The fish special was delightful. The cornbread so good I asked for a second. I didn't personally try the dessert but they received high marks from my dinner companions.
I had such a wonderful experience from start to finish setting up for my mother's surprise birthday party for 50 guests. The manager was exceptional with his communication and assisting with organizing the menu and staff. All the staff were very friendly and made this experience memorable. My family thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The food was so delicious! The cornbread, ham sandwiches, beef tenderloin, and bacon wrapped scallops were all a hit! They did not take any shortcuts on food preparations. Everything was cooked to perfection and very flavorful! I was impressed, especially for having such a large party. I can't wait to return again! Thank you!!!
Just left from dining at Juleps this evening. Everything was amazing from the moment we walked into the door to the moment we left. We were a little late for our reservation due to parking issues but it was no problem at all. We were seated immediately at a cute little table right at the front window. Our server was Dana who was PHENOMENAL!! She was very friendly & knowledgable. Her timing for everything was absolutely perfect!! Our food & drinks from the bar were also just incredible. We can’t wait to visit again.
Quite good neuvo American place. Our waitress was really amazing and tended to us extremely well. The dishes were quite good but the cauliflower Mac and cheese was just cauliflower in a watery cheese sauce. The dessert was definitely the highlight of the whole meal.
The service was top notch--everyone worked seamlessly to ensure glasses were filled, plates cleared, etc. The food was decent; the flavors were traditional but everything was done well! The fried spinach was the best part of the country ham ravioli appetizer. The passion fruit Pisco Sour was quite sweet but delicious!
Embarking on a culinary journey at American Southern Cousin was an absolute delight. From the moment we stepped in, the service was top-notch, reflecting genuine Southern hospitality. The wine selection was impressive, offering the perfect complement to our meal. As for the food, the venison and duck dishes exceeded all expectations, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. American Southern Cousin has truly set a new standard for Southern cuisine, and I can't wait to return for another unforgettable dining experience.
My family and friends surprised me for my birthday. My first visit but not my last. First the atmosphere was classy but relaxed. The staff was very friendly. Started at the bar where the bartender made an amazing “ROSIES”. I had two! Our server was Dana, she made us feel like we were the only people in the restaurant. The food… OMG! The presentation and seasoning of the food was excellent. I had the crab cakes with real lump crabmeat! Thanks to the staff for a fantastic birthday!
We came here for my Mom’s birthday and we were so pleased! We arrived a little early to our reservation so we sat at the bar and had artisanal drinks. I tried both the Jack Rabbit Slim and the Snakehole. Both fantastic! Once our table was ready, Dana promptly sat us and provided attentive, kind, and efficient service. The deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes were a hit at our table. And once those entrees came out, the entire table was silent, with the occasional “mmmm” and happy dance breaking the frenzy. Absolutely splendid dinning experience and will be returning!
Went here for a rehearsal dinner, the food was fabulous and the service was amazing.
Extremely attentive wait staff, delicious cuisine and of course the Mint Julep is a must!
Service was amazing from the server. We had NY Strips. The NY STRIPS were served extremely undercooked ( raw ). They took them back and placed them on the grill. Then, brought them back. It was over at that point. I could not cut through my steak with the steak knives provided. Last note, run from the pecan pie.
Our waitress Sam was great. Would have rated atmosphere higher but for the life of me can t understand why the booth seats are not padded. The discomfort absolutely detracted from the overall experience. Just dumb!
What a lovely evening. Had the Caesar salad and the Signature Shrimp and Grits. Generous portions and exceptional flavor. Great service. Will definitely return when in Richmond.
I saw a bug flying around and too many pictures on the wall, but great serves. The waiters were very nice great from this place. You should Go to it. Also great food.
Juleps is my favorite restaurant in Richmond. Absolutely delicious food, perfect service, and cozy setting. I look forward to each visit immensely, and especially the fried green tomatoes.
We went to celebrate two birthdays. 2 of the 4 were vegetarian and the food was spectacular as we reported. Vegetarian options: They work to meet your needs. Having said this, having more vegetarian options is an area Juleps needs to work on. Dietary restrictions: They asked and listened carefully. We transformed a few dishes.
After looking forward to enjoying this much lauded restaurant, I have to say that I m disappointed. The appetizer of fried green tomatoes were delicious, but our main entrees were awful. Every thing on our plates were so over salted, we couldn t finish our meal. And for the price of our meal, dissatisfied doesn t even begin to describe how we felt. I will not be a repeat customer.
First time food was amazing every thing was perfect this is by far the best restaurant Ive ever been
My husband and I celebrated our 23rd anniversary at Julep s. I have no complaints at all!! The hostess s were friendly and inviting. The food was amazing! I loved the environment and energy. And our waitress was kind, knowledgeable about the food, helpful! Thanks for a memorable experience!
The dry aged NY strip was absolutely delicious! Great service overall and cute dining room
As always, food was on point!
Nice place, great service and great food!
Had a great experience. Sat at the bar for a drink while waiting for table. The bartender was great and drinks were fabulous. Make sure you try the fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs. Dinner was steak and crab cakes both great. Thanks again!
The service was fantastic, and the food is classic, and very rich! Our server, Adam, was so knowledgeable about the menu and really made it a great experience. Definitely try the bananas foster and cold fashioned. Very limited vegetarian options but all vegetarian or gluten free options are clearly marked.
Fancy, delicious, great service, and amazing drinks.
It was our first time there. Had reservations and when we got there the hostess was on the phone for atleast 10 mins before she acknowledged us. Food was delicious. The only reason I gave 3 stars is because my $40 steak was overcooked. Mentioned it to our waiter n all I got was an I m sorry didn t even offer a new one. But overall we enjoyed it
We enjoyed a terrific evening, and meal at Juleps! Worth a visit while in Richmond.... Parking: There is parking around, probably a couple public lots too. Not sure, as we parked on the street...
Super disappointed!!!! The reason why Im giving it three stars its because the service was terrific. The food was not so great everything was Bland, with no flavor. I had to return my food! I do not mind paying for food, but when its like this and $$$$ not with it! Other than that, I would not come back to this place unless they changed the cook!
Truly a five star experience! From the homemade cornbread, decadent pimento cheese fried green tomatoes, to the fish stewed in sweet potato puree and finally the the toffee cake with homemade ice cream; this place is an absolute treat. Excellent service and food.
My husband and I celebrated our ten yr wedding anniversary dinner here and our entire experience was 10/10! We made reservations and were taken care of very well by Adam! He was on top of everything! I cannot wait to enjoy another meal here asap!
Expensive dining experience. I ordered the ribeye special medium rare and it came out rare. The cut was also thin. Tasted good but I could not finish it, and got it to go. My wife had the Rockfish and it was a little salty, but good. The service was great. We spent over $200 with tip and went home feeling underwhelmed. At that price point I would expect everything to be well above par.
We went for a late Valentine dinner, Im not saying the food was bad by no means but for my taste buds and my wifes it was way way way to salty. Only thing that wasnt saturated with salt was the pan seared scallops appetizer. We also order the deviled eggs salty, my wife had the crab cake which was filled with lump meat at every bite, but that fried grit cake was just a block of salt. I myself had the 40day dry aged steak, now Im not the biggest steak eater but I wanted to try dry aged, my steak was cooked too a perfect medium like I requested but those fingerling potatoes way to salty. Now as far as the dry aged steak, I let my wife try it since she loves steak and she said she could taste the difference so I gotta go with her judgment. Maybe it was an off night, maybe it was just our food who knows, but definitely will say check this place out for yourself.
Yall, this is some Excellent food with top notch service! The welcoming atmosphere is perfect for a night out and beautiful inside. Try the bananas foster for some great entertainment and dessert! If youre lucky enough to get Tony, youll enjoy yourselves even more, hes the best! Salute!! Parking: On the backside is a nice sized paid parking lot. Easy two minutes to the door if that.
Great food and great place for a date night.
If you are looking for the perfect rehearsal dinner spot, stop looking right now, and book Julep s New Southern Cuisine! We knew we wanted to host our rehearsal dinner in a place where we could reserve a large space not only for dinner but also for a Wedding Weekend Welcome Party. When we reached out to Juleps to inquire about booking our event, Amy was extremely prompt and excited to host us! Amy and Ty were awesome to work with throughout the whole planning process - coordinating the dinner selections, the bar selections, hors doeuvres, and and a time for us to set up decor before our event! Our event was honestly flawless. The food was incredible (if you ve ever eaten dinner here - you know); our guests raved about each and every course. Throughout our event, the staff were attentive and polite to all of our guests; not a glass was empty the entire night! We cannot thank Amy, Ty, and Julep s for their hospitality and for hosting our Rehearsal Dinner and Wedding Weekend Welcome Party!
Quite a wonderful restaurant: the food is beautifully presented and exquisitely cooked , both starters (mussels to die for, she crab soup-so yummy) and main dishes (NY strip 40 days aged-wow, crab cake-amazing), and a great, very reasonable wine list. Finny, the atmosphere is just wonderful (when you see a restaurant that hangs sound proofing you know they care more about guest comfort than getting more seatings each night).
Delicious dinner at Julep s tonight. Fantastic service, tasty Caesar salad, and the best crab cake that I ve in quite some time.
Such a good place to come for dinner for a special occasion! We had the crab cakes and New York strip and fried oysters as an app. Every was perfect and portions were fair. Dustin our waiter was amazing! Only thing was my drink was a bit weak and was mostly ice so I stuck with wine the rest of the night but other than that, I have 0 complaints.
Since many restaurants feature a limited menu and smaller portions during Restaurant Week, I had decided not to review any meals this week. Then we went to Juleps and I had to break my resolution! Our appetizers of mussels for my husband and arugula salad for me were tasty and the portions were good. For an entree, he had mahi mahi with a sweet tea glaze while I opted for the steak with boursin butter, snow peas and potatoes. Both entrees were extremely flavorful and the sides were plentiful and yummy as well. Our final courses were pecan pie for him and apple crumble for me. He loved the pie and found it to be lighter than most pecan pies, perfect after a good meal. The apple dish was also delicious; I especially liked the peanuts in the oatmeal crumble as they added another great note to the flavor profile. I heard a waiter tell a group near us that Juleps Restaurant Week menu is like a greatest hits on which they dont skimp. I heartily concur...it was a fantastic meal!
Best fancy pants dining in Richmond! They also had Eagle Rare which made my husband very happy:)
Very nice for dinner before a show or concert
The steak was cooked to ABSOLUTE perfection, melted in my mouth like butter. I did not know that it was even possible for steak to do that. Everything I ate was sensational. SPOT ON!
Solid southern food done exceptionally well! Creative and classic dishes. Kareem was an outstanding server, providing a pleasant and attentive dining experience.
My sista-friend and I had reservations there at 5:30pm before the Brian Culbertson show at the National Theatre last night. (Side note: He was awesome as usual!!! ) So, we researched restaurants ahead of time as we were traveling in from Virginia Beach/Chesapeake. Our desk clerk at Marriott also recommended Juleps. Thank God the Hotel shuttle dropped us off because parking near the restaurant is scarce, but we could have walked there from the Marriott. A huge shoutout and thank you to our amazing waiter Kareem for his outstanding customer service ( friendly, efficient and professional) as well as his spot-on menu recommendations and ensuring we were out the door on time for our Brian Culbertson show!!! I had the Beef Short Ribs, and no knife needed! My sister got the NY Strip, med and cooked to perfection (juicy and pink). We loved our wines, white zif, and pinot noir. I would have given a five, but as a Chef myself, I feel the soup should have had more crabmeat, or it should have been carefully folded in to maintain the lumps and make them more visible. They also could have garnish with some crab as well, but the soup flavor was delicious. Our fried green tomatoes were actually fried too hard, but the pimiento cheese served with it was a nice surprise as I am not fond of pimiento cheese. The decor and ambiance were very inviting. It was moderately crowded with minimal noise, so overall, it was a great experience, and thanks to Kareem, we will definitely return!!
Amazing! Went for a date night dinner. Our server was amazing, the food was literally some of the best food Ive had. And a very nice restaurant too.
Excellent food. Quaint little spot that highlights the best Virgina has to offer. I got the duck. 10/10.
All amazing! RVA restaurant week.
Service was amazing and attentive and the desserts are awesome!
Great place for a family meal. Food was good. I would visit again.
Ive been going to Juleps for special occasions for over ten years, since they were in the old building in Shockoe. I love their fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese, their shrimp and grits, and their seasonal dishes. Staff is extremely accommodating and conscientious. My only complaint with the atmosphere is that the main dining room can get quite loud, so I prefer to eat at the small tables by the bar, or avoid the busier times.
Delicious food, generous portions, eclectic ingredients! Will be saving as one of my favorite places.
Always a first-class affair at this gem of a restaurant. Food, drink, service... spot on. Among the very best in Richmond for sure.
Had an amazing Halibut dish and Calimari for an App. The food was outstanding and we sat at the bar and had excellent service and awesome drinks. Definitely worth the stop in downtown Richmond.
I can give this place 3 stars. First of all the service and atmosphere was impeccable! We came for a private rehearsal dinner and enjoyed the cocktail hour and 3 course meal. The only thing I do not prefer would be the parking and location. I did get a parking ticket and would have preferred better parking available
I went to restaurant week and had a wonderful 3 course meal. They were very accomodating even though I showed up close to closing time. Would love to return
Hands down in my opinion the very best restaurant in the Richmond metro area by far. Very professional staff, very nice setting, and great food.
Ease of making a reservation and a wonderful outdoor dining experience made for a great time. Superlative service by our server Siobhan, put this over the top. She was attentive, knowledgeable and made the meal flow perfectly. Vegetarian options: The zucchini pasta (aka zoodles) was amazing. Flavorful and just the right portion size.
Went for a private birthday celebration. It was not noisy, the service was good and the food was delicious. My only wish is the dessert menu could be expanded.
Delightful shrimp and grits.
Our meal was perfection! Nice selection of non-alcoholic bevs! Service was friendly & professional...great experience!
Had the Fried oysters, She crab soup and the Pork Chops. The food was delicious and the service was great! 5 stars all around . Will definitely go back when in town.
Here visiting Richmond for work and decided to place a to go order since Im still working. Was informed that they dont do to go orders on Thursday. Thats a first for hearing that, and highly disappointing.
The food was delicious. I recommend the scallops and the pork belly. Our waiter Tony was great! He made good recommendations and you could tell he loved the food that was coming to the table. Great ambiance eating outside as well. Drinks were good as well!
We have a lovely quick dinner. We sat outside bc it wasn t too hot. I got the shrimp & grits. This is a very different shrimp & grits. The grits are very course and not like the creamy grits you are use too. If fact, they are so thick that they hold the shape of the scoop. The shrimp were excellent! The sauce is very spicy. I m sure it is made with smoked paprika, which can be quite spicy. The flourless chocolate torte is fudgy & delicious. According to others at the table the scallop appetizer was the best they had eaten! Our server was very knowledgeable & efficient. I will strongly recommend this restaurant! Dietary restrictions: Offers several gluten free options
The steak was super juicy and just the right bite. Adam was an excellent server.
Amazing from start to finish! The bartenders were very skilled at making and recommending cocktails. They took the time to suggest a non-alcoholic drink for me. Most places just say soda . We were seated by the front window and enjoyed looking out at as people passed by. The cornbread to start was the most delicious cornbread we ve ever eaten! My husband had the duck and I had the pork chop, both delicious with the food beautifully displayed. We finished our meal with the chocolate torte, which I expected to be somewhat dry, as some tortes are. It was the opposite, fluffy and light. Our server constantly cleared our plates to prepare for the next course, and made great recommendations for us. We had a wonderful evening and can t believe it s taken us this long to check out Julep s! We will be back :)
Cool atmosphere, but our server was unbelievably slow and the food made my fiance sick. Absolutely not worth the price. Small portions too.
More like 4.5 if it was an option. Great date night, or mid week dinner! Hubby said shrimp was best he ever had. I ordered the scallops with mushrooms that I swore it was braised meat. My wine selection was so so. Service was good. Jackie was attentive to the right degree for us. It was a nice dinner on a very unplanned stop in the area.
Outstanding tasty food!
This was one of the best meals my wife and I have ever eaten. All of the food was perfectly cooked, generous portions, and well made cocktails. We will definitely have another date night here the next time we are in Richmond!
Love this place! Wonderful food, service, and atmosphere! Loved my filet and the wine was fabulous!
Excellent food and cold beverages
Impeccable service and an eclectic menu. The cocktails are on point.
What a HORRIBLE birthday celebration we had. Aug, 16th, @7pm was our reservation .. Our server was extremely arrogant. She was a younger girl with frizzy brown hair. I wanted to celebrate my best friends birthday and I wish I booked somewhere else. 1. They messed up the reservation TWICE, EVEN AFTER I CALLED TO DOUBLE CHECK. What prompted me to double check my reservation was because the hostess sounded incompetent and she trembled back and forth several times with the date and time. 2. Never used the printed birthday menus as I was told there would be. Then when I asked for them upon arrival, they still NEVER SWITCHED THEM OUT. 3. The waitress was so arrogant during our meal. She wasn t helpful with refilling drinks, she was 20 mins late to bring a banana foster and it came out with an attitude while she made it at our table, and all of her responses to any questions were responded with a face of arrogance, like we should have the answers already and not ask her. I have been here several times, and yesterday will be the last and none of this was worth my money.
Cute little upscale restaurant. The food was great and you could tell they use high quality ingredients. I will say I think it s a total bummer that you can t swap your entree side for another one. The only option is to order the side a la carte. If you re going to charge me $35+ for an entree alone, I would hope that I d have the ability to pick a side of my liking. The crab cake was good, but I wished for more of the remoulade. Only got a tiny amount on my plate. The grit cake had really good flavor, but a little too salty for me. I don t know if I d return for the dinner, but would definitely come to the bar and have cocktails.
Excellent service and ambience. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and gave awesome description and advice about the menu.
Everything about this experience was perfect. Our waitress was super, the food was fantastic.
Spent a night in Richmond and wound up here. Glad I did. Everything was well done from food to drinks and I especially appreciated the service. Everyone on staff knew their stuff and was friendly and attentive. I especially appreciate the bartender Adam who gave me too much of his time. Great spot!
Had a great first experience here! Immediately sat at the bar and was promptly greeted. Holly the bartender provided us with drink recommendations that fit what we were looking for, and they were amazing! We also got the she crab soup which was really tasty. Had a wonderful time socializing at the bar and having top notch service. Looking forward to coming back!
Pricey but wonderful place to eat, celebrate and enjoy.
Fabulous drink menu, delicious food. The service is very friendly and attentive. We cant wait to return.
Delicious. We were well taken care of and the shrimp and grits were divine.
What a great place for dinner. Food was great. Service was amazing. And location is great.
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Juleps. On arrival we were checked in for our reservation and able to sit at the bar and order drinks. Then we were escorted to our table. The atmosphere was inviting and we appreciated the acoustics. We were able to hold a conversation at a normal volume but were unable to hear others conversations around us. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the she crab soup! There were several off menu options and a great whisky/bourbon selection. If you are looking for upscale food and a snap casual experience Juleps has you covered!
My wife and I went to Juleps for our anniversary dinner. We could not have had a better evening. The food was outstanding, especially the duck breast. We arrived about half an hour early and sat at the bar. I have never seen a more extensive choice of bourbons. Once seated, our waiter took incredible care of us from start to finish. We will absolutely be back.
Horrible and rude service from Sabon and Elaina. We literally made reservations a week in advance and planned our entire day around this dinner and drove over thirty minutes for it to only be ruined by such horrible and inconsiderate service. I will not return. Definitely overrated and overpriced. Do NOT waste your time and money. There are many other restaurants where the service will be better.
Excellent atmosphere. Excellent food & service.
This is our second visit to Juleps and will, most likely, be our last. While the food was very good and the restaurant is comfortable, we were sorely disappointed with the service. The restaurant was busy, but not packed, yet it took our server quite a while to take our drink order. He dropped the drinks off and didnt tell us the specials, returning a good 15 minutes to do so. While we were enjoying the time with our friends, it was an hour and 15 minutes after being seated before our meal was delivered. Despite the fact that all four of us were eyeing the bananas foster being prepared at nearby tables with watering mouths, no one asked us if we wanted dessert until close to an hour after our meal had arrived and our plates had been cleared for awhile. By then, it was late and we, sadly, declined dessert. Our server seemed put out that we were not ordering dessert. In addition, as we were standing to leave, two servers came rushing out of the kitchen, flying behind us almost bumping into us and said, Pardon me, young ladies barely giving us time to get out of the way. I was thinking it would have been more appropriate if they had paused for a moment to let us get out of the way. (Side note: two 60+ professional women are not young ladies and find that quite patronizing). Then, one of the servers came back with empty plates at top speed, walked in between us saying Coming through! Coming through! Not sure if there was someone timing them to get back into the kitchen, but it was quite surprising. We werent standing there talking. We were literally gathering our coats and trying to walk out. Given the cost of the food and the ambiance that Juleps tries to provide, this type of thing should never happen. There are too many other wonderful restaurants in the area and I would expect Juleps to want people to choose them.
Brilliant combinations, well plated and served
Enjoyed my dinner and the atmosphere.. will definitely be back, the she crab soup was delicious and the lamb fell off the bone, no knife needed!
We had an awesome time here having our corporate holiday party dinner! The food and service were both exceptional, I would highly recommend it!
Had a stellar dinner here last night. Lamb was flawless. Service was also great, Mel rocked.
Excellent
Exceeded all expectations. From the goat cheese tart appetizer, to the steak and duck, to the bananas foster dessert, everything was a grand slam. The Burgundy by the glass was stellar. Our server Adam was fabulous as well. They allow you to relax, take your time and relish the experience.. It was truly an epicurean delight to dine here.
Quiet, attractive ambience, extremely efficient and friendly staff, and exceptional service. I never felt rushed! We had a variety of appetizers, entrees, and desserts, all prepared expertly, presentation was very nice, and the taste was among the best I have ever enjoyed.
Always a favorite for dinner when we are in Richmond. Great food and service.
Limited menu options, very pricey. Food was tasty. The bartender loaded the mint juleps with ice. A couple of sips and drink disappeared. However , I had plenty of ice left over.
Went to Juleps for dinner this past Saturday for early Valentines. What a delight! We had the ravioli appetizer, then I had the pork chop and my husband had the steak. All was delicious!
I m not going ever maybe on the 14th but that s IT
We have dined here multiple times and they have always been good. Last time we were there they were not busy at all maybe three tables were sat. Service was super slow took close to an hour to get our meals. Portions were super tiny and prices had tripled. Key ingredients were missing or were out of. I think the supply issues and COVID have hurt this place.
Got a last minute reservation, enjoyed all of the food. Fancy place if you have people to impress
The wine selection was excellent and the food was out of this world.
Really cool vibe. Great cocktails and the menu for apps looked awesome. Went for dinner at the bar- did the filet- it was good. Would come back if I m in the area!
Incredible food, top service, beautiful restaurant
We ve been going to Juleps for years and each and every time things are perfect. The wait staff are the absolute best! And the food is fabulous. A year ago I got alpha gal AND a dairy allergy from a tick bite. The Juleps Staff and the Chef have made sure that I get an incredible meal in spite of these allergies. So thank you to all the wait staff and the Chef for taking it seriously. I know it must be difficult having to prepare a special meal when you re busy. But these folks do it every time. Attention: AMY Thanks again. See you soon!
The Mint Julip s are so beautiful and tasty! But, if you re looking to taste a Brennon s Bananas Foster, you ll be greatly disappointed. The worst table-side Bananas Foster we ever experienced!
We went to juleps last night and was pretty happy with our experience. My husband and i went with our 14 mo daughter. Restaurant was clean and i did like that they had hand sanitizer at the table. The corn muffin they give are awesome, moist and light. But they only give 1 per person. It probably a good thing because i would have never stopped. We had the scallops which were delicious. For dinner we had the crab cake and the filet. Both were delicious. They dont really have kids cups but our server improvised. Very much appreciated. Would recommend!
I ate here 2 nights in a row. Wonderful food, very nice people and atmosphere and fantastic drinks. 2nd night was as good if not better than the first. Thanks for the great time!
We were four for dinner at Julep s. The service was attentive and timely (even with the restaurant being almost completely full). Our waiter gave us all the time we needed to make our choices, he gave good balanced advice. The wine list was extensive and representative of many wine producing regions. The food was well prepared and very good. The decore was simple but felt relaxing and welcoming. I highly recommend Julep s.
This was my first time at Juleps since they moved downtown. They definitely caught up with the times with the move but still run a super professional show. They do a great job of staying true to their southern theme, which makes it a little difficult if you are vegetarian (i.e., expect otherwise vegetarian dishes to be topped with bacon or pork belly). They did offer a vegetarian special and it was absolutely delicious. Id describe the taste as complex but also just satisfying in a familiar home cooked way. Note that in keeping with the theme the drink menu skews toward the whiskies and bourbons. I had the special which was a pomegranate and champagne drink--a delicious alternative for those of us who cant do whiskey. We sat at a booth but the bar area was beautiful, would be a great place to just stop in for drinks.
Went during happy hour. The mint juielps are bourbon with simple syrup , crushed ice and a garnish of mint. Technically all the ingredients but no attempt to muddel the mint with suger to make a proper juielp so not a great start. The food is less lazy but still not worth what they charge. Not down home southern cooking and not fine dining I would recommend looking elsewhere.
Food was amazing! Service was extremely slowwwww. Had reservations for 545 and didnt get to dessert until almost 9pm!
Went for RRW and absolutely loved this place!!! Had a wonderful menu with lots of excellent choices. Superb service, our waiter was full of little local tips! Will be back again :)
Wow! What a treat, quality , price point and service. Will def be back, also family and kid friendly
It is a nice restaurant for casual upscale dining. I had the pork loin and it was delicious. I would love to go again.
Everything from drinks to appetizers to entrees to dessert was amazing!
Best filled Ive ever had!
My compliments to the Chef and great service too.
Juleps has become a regular stop in for me. Where to start? The staff are superb, knowledgeable and always helpful. A very professional bar and food that is always spot on. The varying fish entrees and their occasional specials are must tries.
This place has so much promise. The service is excellent, the decor is fantastic, and really like the vibe of this place. The problem is the food. Every dish has jalapeño, horseradish, or something similar. So instead of being able to taste the flavors in the food, your mouth is just lit on fire. Very disappointing. I really dislike when chefs mistake over-spicing for creativity. I was able to order a nice dish with a substitution but still got something hot on the side. The entrée was very nice, it just annoys me to no end when there is zero variety and no flavors other than spicy hot.
They keep emailing me without a way to unsubscribe. No idea how they even got my address.
No idea how I ve missed this gem. The absolute best food you will find in Richmond. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. Our new favorite. Cocktails were superb. The reputation of their mint julep is well deserved. Not a bad cocktail on their menu. Jack of all trades and the passion fruit were our favorites. The fried green tomatoes were amazing. On par to what you d find at Magnolias in Charleston, which are the best in the south. Deviled eggs were good, but my opinion, nothing special. I ve hade shrimp and grits all over the South, and none could compare to Juleps. One of the best meals I ve had in my life. If I m being picky, they should double the grits portion, there was plenty of shrimp and sauce, but I would have liked more grits. (That s being picky) The pork chop was phenomenal as well. Some of the best collards in the city, combined with some potato s and apples which were a great addition. Please some how save room for the bananas foster. Great dessert and great experience. I will recommend this place for a long time. Thank you Juleps for making our anniversary a special one.
One of my favorite places in the world. Their quality is consistent. I came first time March 2019 right before COVID at it was just as amazing when I came back this time. The service is amazing as well.
Fantastic food, even better service, all at a pretty respectable price. Took my mother here for her birthday. Juliana recommend some fantastic dishes, all were excellent (I highly recommend the mussels). I will be coming back!
Service was not good. Walked in and the host was basically slumped over sleeping at the stand. No smile, no hello, no eye contact. Walked out.
The place was really nice. It s the kind of place you can dress up or be causal. I got the duck and it was the best I ve ever had. While everything was great our server Dustin really made the experience amazing! He was so knowledgeable and suggested items that weren t on the menu that were all fantastic! His personality was fantastic and made it a date night to remember. We will definitely be going back
I used to frequent Juleps years ago for pharmaceutical dinners and fell in love with the food. I visited this past weekend and I ordered my usual (shrimp and grits) but was surprised that the portion size was so much smaller. Everyone can understand that prices are going to increase but to receive a child size portion of grits which was comparable to 1 small ice cream scoop was pretty disappointing.
Wonderful food, service, and atmosphere
Ive dined with my wife several times, but on October 12, we returned for dinner to be told that that wed have to wait 10 extra minutes. After 10 minutes, a party of four arrived and were immediately seated. I asked why we hadnt been offered that table while being further delayed and they said that our party of three was waiting for ANOTHER table. Yeah, right. Outright discrimination. Shame on them.
Creative menu, great food, friendly staff.
Hands down the best food Ive had in Richmond. Part of Richmond restaurant week so make sure you support your local restaurant. Beat steak ever and asparagus was amazing
Fantastic food, fantastic cocktail, fantastic service. This was a great spot for a birthday dinner. I had a mint julep, the shrimp and grits, and bananas foster for dessert. Everything was top notch. Service was excellent as well. I m knocking it a star because when I ordered my two drinks, I tried ordering singles (and explicitly said single shot on one of my drinks), and was charged for two doubles. My mint julep was supposed to be $2 + the cost of bourbon I put it in ($10 per shot), so $12. Bill came and it was $21. That s a bit much for a single cocktail imo, especially one I tried to order as a single. Also got a regular bourbon (explicitly asked for a single on this one) and was charged for a double despite a rather skimpy pour. If it were not for this discrepancy it would ve been a perfect experience, but upselling customers without explicitly telling them first feels deceptive and wrong.
Sorry, higher expectations which fell way short. Staff was kind, place was clean, wine list was good. Steak was just mediocre (was cooked over temp by at least one level, and the flavor was bland). Server was kind but made a drastic error charging $200 for a $40 bottle - with a bill for a party of 8 I am glad we were detailed. We shared our concern with the manager only to have the serve confront us outside after we left which was very uncomfortable. :-( We can cross it off the list for now.
What a pleasant surprise. A great experience with a large group. Best filet mignon Ive had in a couple years. Need to experience the bar next time.
One of the best restaurants I ve been to since I ve lived in Virginia. The Strip steak, Deviled Eggs, Short Ribs are fantastic! I m always there for happy hour Atleast once a week. The staff are some of the most friendly I ve experienced going out. I recommend juleps 10/10
Tasty Southern eats in a classy environment. Our waiter, Craig, was attentive and prepared a delectable tableside bananas foster flambé. Definitely left feeling full and satisfied, after enjoying the country ham ravioli, champagne julep, shrimp and grits, and dessert. Of all the dishes I enjoyed, the shrimp and grits ranked as the best; it was a large portion, well cooked, in a delicious sort of Cajun gravy. I would order it again! Definitely recommend reservations for a Saturday dinner, as the restaurant was full. Plenty of street parking on side streets nearby.
Two New yorkers who found this place by chance. Food was pretty good. Atmosphere was cozy. Nice place for a datenight. Waitress was amazing and attentive.
I would most definitely go back
Everything was superb! The food was unbelievable and the service was great...very charming restaurant
Left another raunchy Richmond restaurant and came here instead, what a wonderful surprise. Our party was not turned away for how we look or what color we are, and the staff was just fabulous. Food was great, great service and attention to detail, will definitely be back!
It may be the pandemic, but this was the best restaurant experience Ive had in over a year. The food was perfect, the cocktails were on point, and the service was great! I cant recommend it enough but obviously, get reservations. Enjoy!
Denied service at 8:32 PM on a Friday. In town for a field hockey tournament: called ahead to confirm Juleps hours, given our daughter had a 7:30 game. Raced in the rain afterwards to arrive at 8:32 and was told, unapologetically, that the kitchen was closed. I guess they have plenty of business and dont need any new customers, even under COVID-19 restrictions.
Amazing food! Probably one of my top 3 restaurant experiences ever (which is saying a lot as a foodie). Had dinner here with my husband for our anniversary. Everything was absolutely divine. Service, presentation, and most importantly, the food! We had the pork belly, crab cakes, shrimp and grits, and the bananas foster. Even the complimentary corn bread was phenomenal. We came down from out of town to explore Richmond. This restaurant alone ensures that we will be back!
This place is amazing!! The service was great, the food was great and the drinks were great too! Highly recommend!! If you go, ask if Tony has any open tables!!
The service was excellent and the experience was high class. You really wouldnt know from the outside the high quality service and food you get inside. Fairly pricey but completely worth it. 10/10
Went here last night for my anniversary and had THE BEST service!!! The food was worth the wait and the drinks were great. Everything was delicious and our server Amanda was amazing!
Food and service was awesome!!
We have been lucky enough to enjoy Juleps several times and they never disappoint. Ive had the steak, shrimp and grits, crab cake, different appetizers, it doesnt matter, its all delicious. Our server tonight, Tony, was incredible. He was knowledgeable, courteous, fun, and helpful. This is one of our favorite spots around Richmond, even since 18th Street.
The ambiance and excellent service makes up for the over-priced and under-whelming food.
Expensive fine dining. Good food.
Wow! Awesome meal to start off our first night in Richmond! Shrimp and Grits, Fried Green Tomatoes and Pan Fried Mussels.
I went here on a Thursday night. The bar attracts many people for drinks and the vibe who may not want dinner. There is a significant cocktail and alcohol selection that is very well priced. Despite the white table cloths and high prices, the restaurant feels welcoming enough to walk into off the street. Service is very nice. The cornbread and butter was very good, a highlight in my notes. I had the shrimp and grits the shrimp were nice and large and the grits had a delicious nubby quality with butter. The andouille sausage was nicely cut. I enjoyed the tomato based sauce that balanced the grits. I found the sauce a little too smoky bordering on liquid smoke flavor that I tried to mask with grits. Others may love the high smoke flavor.
Drinks awesome! My food experience...less than stellar. Your experience will probably be better however. I ordered before most other bar patrons had arrived yet my SALAD came out significantly later. I just wanted someone to acknowledge that a problem had happened...as they sometimes do...that never happened. Your experience may differ and will likely be better. I was trying to get to a concert on time with plenty of time to waste, this wasnt my best choice.
Celebrated 25th Wedding Anniversary! Food delicious, venue clean, our server ,he was great!! We will be back!
Loved the Hallibut! Did not disappoint and will be back!
Very polite service and great food
Cute little place, nice quiet atmosphere. Staff are friendly, but dont wear masks, if that matters to you. We had filet mignon and the jumbo crab cake, and both were very good. The Brussels sprouts were undercooked, but that was the only complaint. The flourless chocolate torte was delicious. On the pricey side, but worth it for a nice night out.
Outstanding service. Good food.
Consistently good food and service.
We came here for dinner on Saturday night. The place has great ambience. We had the pork chop and petite filet mignon for dinner. The pork chop came with sliced apple, potato and some kind of spinach. We didn t really care much of the spinach. The pork chop itself was delicious. The filet mignon came with potato and Brussels sprouts and they all were delicious. We had banana foster for dessert, came with shortbread cookies and vanilla ice cream. It was delicious but nothing special. The drink menu was extensive and I enjoyed my drink. Parking can be tricky since you have to park on the street, but after 6 pm street parking is free. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Julep s.
Absolutely delicious food and drink! Service was amazing as well!
This is a really hard review to write. Juleps has a great atmosphere and the bar selection and craft cocktails are incredible. Unfortunately, the food is not really all that special (tasty just not really very special) and the prices are way too high. And, the service staff is just a bit too stuck up for my taste. Id probably go 5 stars if the staff was at all friendly or the prices were a third lower. But for $100 per person out the door, there are too many better options in RVA. Sorry juleps, wish it werent true but it is what it is
What a beautiful restaurant! And the bar is wonderful - that g. Everything my friend and I had was delicious- deviled eggs, roasted oysters, fried green tomatoes- spot on! But the foie gras mousse - wow!! Derrick (sp?) and Tim were the consummate professionals - making me feel special and taken care of - we will be back and we will recommend! Added note - lavender panna cotta is so delicious
Food was beautiful (and delicious). Staff was extremely nice as well.
The customer service was great and the food was delicious with great portions.i will visit again.
Elegant. Great fine dining
Had mussels appetizer and shrimp and grits dinner. Both were absolutely delicious.
Not bad. I probably could have chosen something a little tastier. $30-$40 price range on entrees. I wasnt drinking so I cant speak to that. Others in my party seemed to enjoy it. My only hiccup was a full steak knife.
Went here for V-Day. I wasnt feeling like eating meat so appetizers and entree were both seafood. I ordered the scotch egg and the mussels both were amazing. The crust on the egg was flavorful and crispy. The mussels were in this amazing sauce with chorizo and we got extra bread to soak up the sauce. I ordered their shrimp and grits. It was Amazing the shrimp was cooked perfectly and the grits were bomb. The sauce had andouille sausage in it and it was also, in fact bomb. The cornbread was also amazing. Others ordered the crab cake and it was moist and decent size with a cheddar grit cake that was tasty. I eat a lot of food and used to bigger portions so I know when I got to more fancier places the portions are a bit smaller but these were actually okay. The dessert was amazing also we got the beignets with a slight apple on them amazing as well. Go here and eat.
Absolutely had a wonderful time with the bartender Abby, I had the muscles for an appetizer and duck confit for an entrée it was absolutely delicious. Cocktails were incredible. Every staff member was extremely attentive to whatever I needed. The host Megan did an outstanding job. If you re looking for a nice low-key place to go that s upscale I would suggest juleps everytime. It has a romantic atmosphere without seeming too bourgeois. It s a perfect place to dine out if you re just looking for some good southern food or if you re celebrating a special occasion. Everything is locally sourced and sustainably raise which is an extremely important part to me. The owner Amy is a wonderful lady. This is the first place I d go when I visit Richmond again. If you don t come here you re missing out on an incredible time.
I had been meaning to go here for years, but last night was my first time. I was blown away by the service, the food, the chef, and the ambiance. I want to start with the hostess. Her outfit and demeanor was stunning with her pink dress and pearl necklace. So nice and polite and attentive. Then our waiter... so this guy... the class of this guy. Outstanding service all around from him. He even accommodated us when she said she couldnt eat the cornbread that came out first by giving us other options. The food came out later, and it was delicious. Fantastic shrimp and grits. Some of the best Ive ever had, and definitely the spiciest. I was unaware I needed this in my life. I would happily come back here. Nothing but praise to the staff in all regards. Everyone should go. Now. Stop what youre doing and go. Even if they arent open, just set up shop outside and wait til they do.
I made a reservation online @12:42pm for a party of 6 for me and my family (4) kids. I received an email @4:32pm stating that the reservation was declined. I walk in not having any idea that a reservation can be declined. Fine that is my fault for not checking my email. However......the hostess makes a recommendation for me and my (4) kids to sit at the bar......like really? Been here 3 other times and absolutely love the flavor of the food. After this last episode though not sure if I ll be returning.....the bar ma am really???? With my (4) kids.....c mon
Super fantastic spot.
This was our second visit, and we love the ambience and overall quality! However this visit was a bit less enjoyable than our first a year ago. Understandably covid19 has changed some things, but customer service should never be one!! Waiter was knowledgeable, but a bit too hurried, especially since it was early and not crowded. The biggest frustration for our party was the lack of options or room for substitutions on the menu! Waiter kept saying the chef sf doesnt like changes....well since Im the consumer, and both eating and paying for the meal, the chefs lack of wanting changes shouldnt be as important! In a diverse country, there should be room for minor meal substitutions, like vegetables!! Or for those that dont prefer spicy foods vs those who do. Waiter seemed frustrated when we asked for our drinks, even though he wasnt thorough in getting our order for drinks other than alcoholic beverages!! When we opted not to have those, things as simple as offering other drink options were a bother!!! When I finally got his attention and asked for sweet tea, he never responded, just came back and plopped it down on the table...wow!! Really had a great first experience, but not exactly sure if I would return in future, and sadly I had highly recommended this restaurant to the rest of our party! I left feeling let down and embarrassed!!
Amazing southern cuisine! Richmonds best kept secret.
Brought my mom here for her birthday and it did not disappoint. Ambiance, service, and food all 10/10 will be back.
Amazing fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese. And have all the desserts.
Food and cocktails are really good. Atmosphere is cozy and fancy feeling. We had a big group and the staff did great by us, getting us fed and out the door in time for a show at the Carpenter Theatre.
