1102 W Main St, Richmond, VA 23220, United States
Richmond, Virginia's first African restaurant! Serving foods from across the African Diaspora including traditional West African dishes, Southern, and Caribbean cuisines. Daily buffet menus are vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free friendly. Our self-serve buffet is pay-by-weight; place your plate on the scale and pay just $9.99 per lb. West African dishes by order, include Fufu, Egusi, Jollof Rice, Chicken Yassa, Potato Greens, Peanut Sauce and many more.
My first time trying African food was ok for the most part. I ordered two oxtails with fufu, white rice, and two drinks. My total came to $69.00 and I’m still confused as to how. The oxtail were very different from what I’m use to. It had more of a tomato flavor overall, and also it was as cooked with cabbage. The bowl had a decent portion size but very small oxtails so mostly cabbage. Now this was my first time eating fufu it was very sticky. Also, It has no flavor but maybe people use it to soak up gravy of some sort. Lastly I ordered two drink which were $4 each. Now I was hoping the strawberry lemonade was made fresh but it wholeheartedly tasted like Kool Aid, so I was very disappointed with that. I think this experience will be my last.
Man do I love this place. Anything a black person could want to eat it’s here. Whether you from the Caribbean, America or the motherland itself, All Africans of different nationalities and cultures can find something here that you will enjoy. Only thing I would like is if it was a few more West African cuisine options.
I had the pleasure of meeting the chef, and staff last night literally at closing time. My first time eating there, of course I did it as take out. Astonishing the food was still very hot, and was at the point of being taken off the bar to close. The ladies last night were very accommodating to me, and even made sure I had some delicious fufu and chicken egusi (I may have spelled that incorrect). Thank you so much everything was delicious, hot and it all was eaten before bedtime ! What a experience. I will definitely be back to to dine again, next time I'll have better timing that way I can exp the full experience. Thank you very much !! I'd give 5 stars
When I mean to tell you it felt like home here and don't get me started in the food. 10/10. I've been looking for some real African food and I tried this place today. I bought the seafood gumbo which came with fufu. when I received the bag I was skeptical because how small it was but trust it was enough. customer service was amazing and tbh I might go back for seconds in the next hour.
Food is tasty and nice place to get some good food. Place is nice and clean with good customer service. The only thing I’d like to see is more west african food on the menu.
This is, hands down, my favorite spot in Richmond. They have a rotating menu for each day of the week, and there is genuinely nothing I haven't loved yet. They have SO MANY vegan options! I go every Tuesday after my class, and its hard not to get some of everything lol 100% you've gotta try this -- especially if you've never been to an African restaurant. The atmosphere is very welcoming, and it's a great place to try a bunch of dishes and learn what you love!
No actually what I expected but I was quite please with the selections of food and the cleanliness of the serving areas. It’s required to sanitize when entering but not every time you go back in to the self-serving area. Let’s be clear this is not an AYCE Buffet. This is a cafeteria that weighs your food at $9 a lb. Which is barely enough to stave off hunger for more of it’s 200lb plus guests. This place is very expensive and mostly worth it. I would expect more in the ambiance of the restaurant but we are greeted with nothing authentic other than the food. Some of the drinks were not traditional African drinks. As one attendant mentioned… well we needed another juice. 😂 Hilarious. So you will find Jamaican Sorrel and a few other American pallet prepared drinks. All in all this would have been a 5 star experience if the food was less expensive (giving the chance to sample more) and the ambiance was more culturally appealing. Music would have been nice and maybe a greeting or two in the native tongue. It would be nice to feel as if you have been whisked away for an hour. Give me a reason to come back especially being near the VCU campus. We expected a more budget friendly experience. This place is Expensive!!!
I recently got into african food so this is the first African Restaurant I've been too! For starters the service is great, the lady at the register is always sweet, and they clearly pay attention to their customers because I recently started calling them to make sure they have egusi before I arrive and when I called today, the lady that answered said "Africanne on main, we have Egusi with goat meat and fufu." Which I thought was funny. Secondly the food is fantastic, and the prices are outstanding for the food's quality. My mom and I ordered two trays of food (One small, One large) that came up to 18, along with a small Egusi & fufu that came to 13 plus tax... So overall 10/10
All the food was so delicious I have not one complaint
Just so that you know, this is NOT a buffet. Labelling this place as a buffet is pretty deceptive. Because, you will pay as per the weight, even for dine-in. Food was ok. Not a great place to dine-in.
Called in for an vegan egusi soup and they didn t have any. I asked for other options which I chose fish. I ended up changing my mind because it wasn t what I really wanted. The lady hung up in my face. I frequent this business often and the food isn t cheap. A little patience and respect goes a long way.
I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time and finally got to do so today. I went on a Tuesday in which they provide a lot of vegan options. The customer service was amazing! They have a buffet style setup mainly but you can order traditional West African dishes that are not on the buffet line. I decided to try a little of almost everything vegan. Food was very delicious and seasoned! I highly recommend Africanne on Main and will definitely be returning. Vegetarian options: On Tuesdays they provide A lot of vegan/vegetarian dishes
Omg wow. Holy heck
Even the music is fantastic! Usually African funk
To this day I can t say enough about the Staff, Atmosphere and Food! Always a pleasurable experience and homey vibes. Vegetarian options: Pretty good selection- Trust me the Staff will help
Literally the best
Really yummy vegan options, there s vegan stuff everyday but tues specifically they have a few extra dishes. The ginger rice bread, sauteed onions and potatoes were incredibleee. Service is also amazing as well.
My sister called to ask me did I want to try Egusi stew with Fufu.. she knows I am traveling soon to Abuja and wanted to try dishes before I get there Well Chef Mamusu hands down when i get to Abuja the Egusi Stew better be as good as yours I have to adjust to spicy but the flavor so tasty and the Ox Tails I swore no one could make them better than my Bigma but you did .. again I adjusted to the spicy that just me but the flavor and taste overcame the spicy
Great food, pastries, and drinks!!!!! Best restaurant
Delicious buffet! Its a small selection but each item is very full on flavor. Definitely quality over quantity. And the African fruit punch is fantastic!
Love this place. Delicious food, clean and you can get in and out quickly. Would love if they offered beverage refill though.
Didn t care for the fufu. It s not pounded yam. Everyone was sweet though
It was my first time eating African food and I was absolutely blown away everything was so good. The service was on point and the desserts the rum cake, the African punch and the Egusi was great.
Very delicious food!! Always nicely presented and clean restaurant and very comfortable atmosphere! A bit expensive but great food!
This place is amazing.. the vibe I get from the spices and the depth of flavor and the love in this food makes me feel happy ... There is magic in this place... Good stuff
Hands down my favorite spot in Richmond, the food is amazing and the ladies working there are very sweet. I hadn t had African food before going here but now I feel like I ve become addicted, I ve gone twice in one day before.
THE FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
Visiting from out of town. Had the buffet. Food was well-seasoned and there were plenty of vegetarian options!
Food is so good!
First time visit and will not be the last time. I went with my son and we had a great time. From the beverages to the food to the music. Every moment felt like home. I love a good scratch restaurant!!! We were accommodated greatly. We were introduced to the buffet and we ordered Egusi with goat, mother Africa told us it was a more traditional African dish. There was a bottle of sanitizer for all patrons to use prior to starting at the buffet. The music was not too loud, we were able to speak to one another without yelling. It didn t feel like we were at a restaurant, it felt like home. It was peaceful and welcoming. I dance back and forth with vegan dishes and this restaurant has these as well. I loved the beverage choices. I had guava, they also have mango lemonade and pineapple ginger juice, African fruit punch and others I cant recall. They also have desserts, we had carrot cake which was simply fresh and amazing Please visit soon With love Very satisfied, Sara Vegetarian options: Vegan and vegetarian food is available. Parking: Free parking, i parked on the street, but there is parking. Kid-friendliness: My son is 9 and he was happy.
The food is wonderful and consistent every time I go. It s worth it.
Every time I come in here, I am never disappointed. The food is great, especially the vegetarian options and vegan options that make me fall in love with vegetables all over again. The chef and the people who work here are super sweet as well. 10/10
Going to this place is a treat! Clean, friendly staff, and fresh food. I highly recommend.
So delicious o my first time here and everything was amazing. Thank you!
Friendly. Good food. Happy they had fufu
Very good will be back
Nothing fancy. Cafeteria style, bare bones. But the food is the reason to come here. Excellent choice from the buffet. Fill your plate, weigh it, and thats how youre charged. Too many options to detail here, but the food is very tasty and spicy.
I got the Nigerian Egusi with Fufu and it was delicious.
Food is amazing. Appreciate you. Thank you for touching my soul with your good empress. You have my support.
I cant even tell u the last time I enjoyed food this much.. Geesh, ... Id been craving good African food for a very long time, and this place most certainly delivered!! The hospitality was exceptional ... the peach cobbler.. even better..
Awesome place to Don especially for those who do not eat meat. Definitely going back again. Vegetarian options: Many things to choose from if you do not eat meat. Rice, vegetables, soups, many side dishes especially the candy yams they were awesome!
Beautiful and cozy resturant. Carmen is the best!!! I loved the food and enjoyed how welcoming it is. I will definitely go back. Hopefully Ill see Carmen there again
My first taste of west African cuisine. I loved the spinach stew. The chef came out and geeeted us. It seems like it is a restraunt run on passion. Vegetarian options: They had several vegetarian and nonvegetarian options which were quite tasty. Parking: They have their own parking just a hundred feet down the street.
Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful.
Delicious food and lovely people there! Buffet is very well kept and the dining area is cute and intimate. Would recommend a thousand times over!
My husband secretly surprised me with a retirement party! When I entered the door I was in shock my friends and family were there celebrate me ! What better way to celebrate than at Africanne on Main. The staff had smiles all night long and even danced a traditional african dance for us. Among sampling the different delicacies on the menu I especially liked the Navy Bean Soup, fried fish and sweet potatoes. The ginger tea was also a hit! Thank you again for the exemplary service Mamasu and staff! Vegetarian options: The veg options were plentiful and yummy and delicious. The yamdespecially good! Parking: Easy and accessible
If I could give ZERO I would , 1st time trying and it will definitely be the last . I didnt even get a chance to try the food . WORST customer service...worker couldnt even work the register , amount of the food was different from the price and 2 top it all off I was able to place an order off the menu that they havent had available for over a week ... then have the audacity to catch a attitude because she dont know how to process a refund ......Close it down and Train your workers better ... paid with a card had to be refunded in cash...SAD
Food was good. Customer service was poor. Lady was pretty rude. Not coming back.
Everything was pretty good but not a hot as I wish
Great service, awesome vibe...and phenomenal food!.. This is one of my regular spots
Love love love this place. Just wanted some food with love. I found it Will be back....and the fufu was nice Dietary restrictions: Definitely Vegan friendly
Delicious!!! Tried the buffet...everything was finger licking delicious!!
This food was AMAZING and I came at the end of the day so imagine the food fresh!!!!! I will def be back again. It was the perfect meal before seeing Hamilton! Flavorful but not too greasy. And the staff are so friendly!
My food was gone before I even made it home. Best goat egusi & fufu I ve had by far !
I loved the food, especially the navy beans during winter and the healthy drinks eg. Sorrel tea ginger tea etc. Formally named Mamusa at different location check them out. Popular at festivals with a variety of African dishes and American food. Vegetarian options: You will find enough to satisfied your desire and hunger pains. Parking: On the front of business and on the street first come first served. Kid-friendliness: Children are welcome.
I loved it, Ive been wanting to try the Egusi soup and Fufu for awhile and this was most definitely the place to go.
Omg my first time trying african cuisine. And I must say the Liberian Cavassa Leaf Sauce with Foofoo was delicious, thanks so much for this great recommendation! It is a little spicy but I love spice I recommend everyone tries this dish Vegetarian options: There s a buffet full of vegan options Parking: It s downtown parking
Africanne on Main has some of the best food I have had in my life. As a picky eater, the first time I was brought here I was nervous - its really different than the typical food I eat. Nerves went away with the first bite. This is absolutely phenomenal food. They have a different menu for each day of the week, so make sure to try them on a few different days. My strongest recommendations are the african stew and the - oh, god I forgot the name - theyre these triangle pastries that have chicken or vegetable, theyre awesome and you should give em a try. Vegetarian options: Both vegetarian and vegan options that are clearly labelled. Some days have more than others
Experience for me is great. I go quite often.
Food is amazing. Wonderful service. Very pleasant and a lovely atmosphere. Cant wait to come back.
Great food, outstanding service, and beautiful ambiance. Highly recommended!
Good place. Egusi is amazing
No complaints about almost everything: only the trout, which was dry, cold and not crispy. The mustard chicken is best over curry rice, not white rice, and though its not for everyone I really enjoyed it. Would absolutely recommend the jollof. The sweet cornbread is almost cake-sweet, which I dont usually prefer, but after all the spicy food it helped rebalance my palate. Everything was clean and I had no problems dining in. And, wonder of wonders, a non-chain restaurant playing music at a volume high enough to hear it but low enough to talk over! Lovely.
Everything about this place was amazing. Really enjoyed the food the atmosphere was great.Ill be definitely going back
Should have been done a review, I absolutely love this landmark. I just recently recommended a coworker that just moved to Richmond. She will be visiting this weekend. The only reason not a 5 star for service is every now and then depending on who is on the register may not be that inviting but thats really just nitpicking at this point.
Every thing was great mango lemonade amazing, egusi soup fish, hubs had egusi duck, both with fufu. Will be back
Great food , fresh, tasty and full of flavor. Good variety, great quality. 10/10. Would reccomend to any foodie
Pretty expensive for the portion. $50 for essentially 3 sample plates (VERY tiny). Happy I tried it out though.
I miss the welcoming owner when she was on 2nd and main.
Listen to all of the other reviews about very rude service and overly expensive prices!!! Wont be coming back.
Food was good, but the customer service sucks, I even bought a friend, that s how highly I recommend the food here, but after the rude experience I think this may be my last trip, I can t support rude.
Huge slices of pizza , pizza by the slice lovely atmosphere
I had a plate from Chef Mamusu s during the Folk Festival and it was so delicious. Having good food at a festival is an elite experience - it was raining hard and I wanted hot food and the booth smelled so good!! I got the plate of two meats and two sides and got the curry fried chicken wing, curry fried fish, candied yams and sweet cornbread. Everything was delicious and hot and the chicken and fish were both real stars of the show. I haven t been to the brick and mortar restaurant in a while but now I ll be going out of my way to go back soon!
Honestly..... The BEST food in the WORLD!! Excellent service with Excellent taste!! I could eat this food everyday!! Excellent job Chef Mamus!! Vegetarian options: Spinach, cabbage, jollof rice, veggie medley and more
The food and the atmosphere are great!
Absolutely delicious food!!! I mean, this is truly yummy. Warm, kind, welcoming staff. You need to go here. Really.
Love the food and atmosphere! It s buffet style so you can help yourself to a large assortment.
Bangin. Great vegan/vegetarian options. Only issue I had was the styrofoam plates. Buffet is charged by weight. Nice lady at the counter said if I brought my own bowl she could take the weight of it before I load up with food and subtract it from my total. So five stars all around Vegetarian options: Vegan too!
I like the food, everything is very good and it is a nice place.
Terrible, terrible customer service. Food is pretty good, but the workers there are always unfriendly and barely even acknowledge youre there. Would not recommend.
Amazing food!
My first time there and it was not good. The food was cold, and I guess I didnt read the find print that it was a buffet. The mix green was the only thing hot.The fish was the reason I went there and it was hard and dry. The Mac and cheese was OK, the spoon was clogged and you really couldnt scoop anything up. The onions were COLD!! The BBQ chicken was really good...I guess they were recently made. Will I good back...I dont think so.
This restaurant is by far the best African cuisine/restaurant that Ive ever visited in the entire country. From the professionalism and kindness of the staff to the quality of the food, you cant go wrong with this place. I was happily surprised by what I ate here that day. It was a wonderful experience. Will definitely go back if I ever go back to Richmond, VA.
Absolutely great!
I randomly Googled this place one day and I am sooo glad i did!!!!! I absolutely loveee the food. The flavor of the wings and chicken were out of this worlddd!! I definitely wish I could give this place more stars! Come eat here...you definitely will not regret it!!!
We got the buffet. So many choices! We got the chicken patty, chicken stew, rice, so many things ( there were 3 of us). Excellent and kind service. Oh the desserts and drinks were also EXCELLENT! Will definitely be back!!
Always good!!
A beautiful new location for this lovely lady and her delicious food.
This is literally the best food I ve ever had in my life! The curry fried chicken is the best fried chicken I ve ever tasted. Everything just melted in my mouth! The staff makes you feel like family and makes sure that you are satisfied.
Delicious omg so good and clean great customer service
Everything they have tastes good
Africanne on Main is a regular for my family where we always know we can expect some consistent good food by the pound. Youre sure to enjoy some of the many of the African inspired buffet styled options.
Ah-mazing African Vegan Cuisine!!!
Delicious African food! Affordable prices. Great customer service. Good is a little on the spicy side if you are sensitive to spices.
Amazing food and the staff are seriously so kind. Definitely check this place out!
Delicious African food! Great customer service. The prices are reasonable. The food is a little spicy if you are sensitive to spices.
Great service and fantastic options. I took my dad and he was in heaven with the buffet. My only complaint would be the fried fish. I personally prefer fish fresh from the fryer. It s not really buffet friendly. Also, they didn t have my favorite soursop tea.
Ive been eating at this restaurant for over 2 decades and this restaurant never fails me. Staff is always friendly and everything is always peacefully. Food is always amazing. I really enjoy Tuesdays...which is Vegan Day :)
First time going & I ll definitely be back! The ladies who work there were so nice with taking my order & recommending things to me. I got the curry fried chicken, Mac n cheese, fried trout, plantains, goat egusi w/ fucu, African fruit punch, and strawberry lemonade, all for $36! Needless to say, it was well worth it, deff recommend.
When I come to Richmond Va from California Maryland have to stop and get spinach stew with fish and fufu so DELICIOUS.I love the cleanest and friendly staff. You must stop in they have American food too.
The Food and Energy was off. The Owner/Chef approached my side to place food on the hot bar , didnt say excuse me , didnt speak.. I paid 12 bucks for off Energy Food so therefore I threw it in the trash. I tried to eat it but could not take it down. The Bean Balls did not taste like beans at all, just a bunch of Grease/Oil & Flour. They force people to wear Hand Sanitizer ( I dont put it on. fake an attempt ) but Hand Sanitizer has harmful chemicals. Will not be coming back. Very Bad Energy and Food. Food is Energy. If the person whos cooking energy is off , the food is off.
Food was good.... but dont call it a buffet when you pay by the pound.....not interested in returning
Good tasty nice variety of greens and meat dishes good homemade drinks of ginger pineapple and watermelon dine in or take out
Loved it!! Good music was playing while I ate some good food. It is buffet style and you pay by the pound or you order something fresh from the menu.
I have been there twice. First time food was really good loved the goat egusi soup & fufu. The waiter seemed a little short when I asked her a question so I wouldnt say the customer service was great. The second time I went I brought a friend with me and we were very excited to go. The goat soup I ordered this time did not have any goat meat but rather one big chunk of fat. I tried to ask the waiter for help which was the same waiter from the first experience if I could get a new serving being I wanted goat meat in my soup and their food is far from cheap and she gave a lot of attitude and seemed a bit offended and told me goat is fat! Ive had goat plenty of times and its definitely meaty. I was told to just get something else. So I dont think Ill be returning due to poor customer service and being jipped of meat in my soup which is very highly priced for the small serving given.
Very fresh, respectful staff and good food !
The food was A-Mazing. I sampled mostly everything and was stuffed. A really nice atmosphere. Staff was friendly and helpful. They kept the place really clean. Great experience. Wish there was one closer to where I live.
The food was excellent . We all enjoy our plates... even the picky vegan in our group. Definitely our new go to spot.
Good food and friendly owners. Mixed greens and jollof rice were my favorite
This place is absolutely amazing and extremely tasty.
I drove 3 hours just to try it. It was worth every mile. The food was hot fresh an amazing. The people were helpful an very friendly I will definitely be returning
My vote for best restaurant in RVA. Chefs story is incredible, her food is perfect, and the atmosphere is so kind and inviting. Could not recommend more.
Amazing food!!!
Delicious and healthy food and charming people. Vegetarian options: Go on Tuesdays for vegetarian tuesday. Parking: Free parking in front of the building or next door..
I find it odd that an African restaurant is closed on 4th of July, but the food is good so Ill let it slide.
Good Africanne cuisine.
Went to this restaurant and tried everything on the Buffay. All the food that they had available was delicious from the fried chicken to the fried trout to the jerk chicken to the curry chicken. Everything was delicious.I even tried all their vegetables which was very well seasoned. The service was great and I met the chef to tell her they have food was amazing. If you go to this restaurant you will not be disappointed.
Delicious buffet style dining, food is sold by the pound. Especially enjoyed the steamed cabbage with turkey, curry chicken, and spicy rice. The cornbread and rum cake were also exceptional. Vegetarian options: Several vegetarian options available including spicy rice cornbread plantains and candy yams.
Awesome
First experience and I can t see anything better! I m going to be a regular!
My experience today was not so great compared to previous visits to Africanne on Main. I am a huge fan of the mixed greens and today, not so much. Plus I had the chicken meatballs they were very tasty but they were cold. I ate inside so I expected the food to be a lot warmer. For the price you pay, the food should be warmer.
Parking: Plenty of parking
Albeit buffet, service was excellent. Food is delicious and popular. Get there early.
The Fish Egusi and the Goat Stew with Fufu are simply magical. I m addicted
The spicy greens, chicken and fufu was absolutely amazing
Warm, welcoming environment with good service and the best, delicious VEGAN eats! Will be returning very soon
Every time Im in Richmond Im going to stop here! This lil jewel is amazing and I refuse to eat anywhere else.
This place is closed dwn.
We got a plate at the folk festival... It was amazing and well worth the wait!
Decided to have some African fare today, as I am not new to the foods or culture. As I walk in the atmosphere is clean and inviting. I walk to the counter and I am greeted. The older lady working the front seemed kind enough at first. I asked what was on the buffet she said I could go take a look; which I did. And nothing seemed impressive. I opted to order off of the menu and chose Oxtails which would come with white rice. I inquired about cabbage and was told I could serve myself off of the buffet for 8.99 a lbs, and in my opinion there should be options for those who do not want rice without being over charged. About 10 mins later the same older woman said that the oxtail were not ready and it would be about 1.5 hrs till done, so my second choice was goat stew also served with white rice. Once my order was ready I proceeded to grab a apple cobbler which looked delish, it was also weighed which I would figure dessert would be at a flat rate like most carribbean restaurants, and the small container of Apple Cobbler came in at $9.20 way too over priced for what takes dollars to make...I left the cobbler...no biggie I still had my meal and would eat it at home...I noticed a detox drink in the mini frigerator I inquired what was in the detox and the older lady again by this time not too friendly at all said senna...I reply oh ok I know what that is, and can you tell me what else is in it? Her curt answer was senna and some other African herbs. It would be nice to know for allergy sake but I digress. I pay for my goat and white rice 26.dollars and some change and leave, but before I do I ask about the parking lot which does have free parking as long as you are visiting this restaurant. The goat was average and the rice was Uncle Bens...the woman working the counter could be more pleasant she turned this dining out into a hassle. 1st and last time there. Dont bother wasting your time or money. Customer service counts for alot.
Stopped to go to the Subs and Pizza store next door and saw this place. I am so glad I chose to go in. Best part was that because of the pricing by weight, it allowed me to try lots of different items. Honestly, it was all amazing food. I strongly recommend. (Disclaimer, I have nothing against the pizza/sub place next door, I am sure they are great too)
The corn bread is gas af. So is everything else. Please come here, it is so good.
Food was delicious especially them greens :) loved trying this new food Vegetarian options: Several vegan foods like the greens
This place was great the food was amazing definitely will be returning
Sanitize your hands and then serve yourself at the buffet that changes daily. Vegan and vegetarian dishes are well labeled and everything is delicious!!! Then weigh your plate and eat on site or take it to go. The ginger tea is wonderful but has a lot of ginger so it has a kick! I love it! Various desserts round off the offerings. Everything is top notch. Everyone I have taken here to eat has been impressed.
When I say its MANDATORY to stop here whenever Im in town..I mean it ! This place has thee Best food! Never a miss. I always get plenty to go. So if you come by and the Mac was low it was probably ME. 20/10
Parking: A little ruff Wheelchair accessibility: No wheel chair accomodations Food : 5/5 |
Great food! Came here after running the Richmond Marathon and it was Spicy and interesting. Would definitely visit again when I m in Richmond
Everytime Im in town I make it a point to come here. I love the options and the carrot cake is phenomenal.
I have been getting food from chef for about 5 years now and its always so good I love this place definitely authentic African food and American food
Whomever is working on Friday, 11/18 around 5pm and speaking with customers perhaps could use some training. I do not appreciate my 17 year old daughter and her friend being treated rudely. They were both excited to try African cuisine and were allowed to venture out to the other side of town to experience what they thought would be a great evening with great food. Instead they were met with attitude when my daughter simply asked if there was a wait time. They are kids and both have limited time out alone. The lady s response was well you don t see nobody here do you? What kind of way is that to talk to ANYBODY let alone children? Glad my girls decided to leave and go to Maggiano s instead. Do better!
Kid-friendliness: They have always been caring and lovable people .
My first time eating here the food was delicious and the customer service was awesome definitely will be back
love the new place! the curry wings were amazing today!
The food is good. The customer service is disgusting/deplorable. The owner/woman behind the counter has a terrible attitude all of the time. Rude to first time customers, very unhelpful with new customers and just overall rude. Ill continue to go but will not be attempting to speak to this lady.
Afrianne On Main is a exquisite Restaurant with adequate cuisines. Its one of Richmonds outstanding dining location. Ill without any hesitation recommend this Restaurant to anyone or establishment seeking a place with attention to ones dining preference.
Awesome
Best Fried Wings and Catfish Around!
Ist time purchasing food, my greens were GOOD so was my . Will be back again. I love good food .
one word - yuummmmmmmmmmm!
Good food !!!
The food is very good and the melon drink tastes heavenly!
The food here is amazing, when I worked downtown Id go twice a week. The cornbread is to die for and good portions its buffet style so you do weight it at the end. This is what I normally get and a side of the spinach at times. Sweet ladies there and clean establishment.
I enjoyed the food every time I have visited
This place is an institution that finally reopened after moving westward from their old location. Great to see them open again! Great buffet choices making a quick and easy lunch spot with seating available inside.
The food is always delicious and hot. Great idea for lunch and even better for dinner. Hint: get the mac and cheese
In the heart of VCU a gem where you can get Delicious West African food. I loved the fufu and egusi and was so happy there is a place in the city that sells it. Great vibe.
Absolutely amazing food!!
Amazing! Love the new location!!!
This was some of the most flavorful food Ive ever tasted. CLEANLINESS AND HAND SANITIZING WERE ON POINT!!
Excellent.Well seasoned. Authentic. Delicious!
My experience was so good I forgot to take pictures. The atmosphere was AMAZING!!! The hostess was very friendly and answered my questions about the dishes. The food EXCEPTIONAL!!!! I brought some Fufu and Egisu stew home for my daugther and she loved it. I will definitely be back and I have already recommended to several others. Hands down the best in the 804!!!!!
I really enjoyed the food here I am vegetarian and was pleasantly surprised at the food options they had for me . It is buffet styled-serve yourself. I got a little bit of everything on the vegan/vegetarian side and enjoyed everything I got. The dining is very clean and I liked the ambiance. Definitely will be a regular
I have been wanting to try some African food and this place delivered. The staff was nice and polite. Also, it was very clean inside and they had you sanitize and wear masks. Now, the best part...THE FOOD! the food was tasty and well seasoned. It was fresh (we got there around 12:30 PM on a Saturday). They have a great variety of food, drinks, and desserts. Definitely going back.
I really really love my food me and babygirl I ll be back once a week I m sure!!!!
Great authentic African cuisines and deserts. I love how the flavors come together. Its just wonderful good food!
food was a little less than warm. I appreciate the cleanliness
10/10. Great food, calming atmosphere. Lots of good options you can t get anywhere else in the city
Very good food. Lots of vegetarian options..
Best African food I ve ever tasted!!! I usually try to get there at least once a week. The Egusi with pounded yam is my favorite!!! I was trying to get there one Friday night to get my fix of egusi and didn t realize they had changed locations and I had placed my order over the phone and went to the old location. I called back and told the owner s sister I was on my way because they were about to close. She was nice enough to wait until I got there, because they were already closed. Not only did she wait fir me, she had my egusi packed and ready to go!! I was short $1 and she told me not to worry about it. I highly recommend this place for some goooood eating!!
Always love this place!! The new place is absolutely spectacular. Love the setup and the food has ALWAYS been excellent. Love the diversity between vegan and traditional foods. Love the personal touch and warm atmosphere in the heart of VCU! good and healthy...makes you come back for more.
Absolutely incredible. Its a good thing we dont live in town.... This place would wreck me. Absolutely delicious.
I visit this location frequently and I am never disappointed!! The food is amazing and is a great representation of the African culture! The staff is amazingly kind and you get what you pay for, pure excellence. The dine in sitting area has a great ambiance and is always clean! I have never had a bad experience eating here and Mama Mamusa makes your experience unforgettable! Trust me you won t be disappointed by dining at this delicious African cuisine restaurant!!!
For a city that does not have a lot of Resturant qualified to be called African Resturant, this is one place you have to visit, if you want to eat African food. I mean, you will probably get lost in the source, otherwise saying, while eating you will just wiggle you toes in the taste of beauty. I like every second I spend eating there.
It s a buffet style with nice array of options. Their jollof rice was really good and worth the money. They also have vegan options which is a plus.
When I went to this restaurant in September, I was a brand new vegan. The young lady at the register was very friendly and explained the vegan options. She also told me that one particular day (I think Tuesday) was a day that they had many, many vegan options. Its worth noting that their RESTROOM is beautiful :-) I sat near 3 ladies that worked for the post office and came in for their lunch break, so I had someone to laugh with, lol! I mainly ate peppers and onions that were seasoned from here to HIGH HEAVEN!!! They were SOOOOOO good. I cant WAIT to get back down there...see you all soon!!! Love from Charlottesville, Nikki.
Everything I had was so good! And the customer service was awesome! Definitely will be going back.!
Yeah
I love this place
THE BEST FOOD EVER! WORTH ANY TRAVELS
The food was so delicious. I tried the turkey meatball, yes Ibonly got 1 but wished I had a plateful. It was soooo good. I go downtown once a month for business and always stop in. Oh the ginger tea is still the best ever.
Chef Mamusu s food is incredibly good. Every dish is a blend of mouth watering flavors that explodes with taste in every bite. I particularly love her African chicken stew and jollof. The plantains are a sweet treat to add to any plate. The atmosphere of the restaurant makes the experience even better, as it is self serve and I always end up scooping more onto my plate than I originally intended because the food looks so delicious. Saying that, I never regret this, because the pricing is so reasonable and the food is worth every penny. This is my favorite restaurant in Richmond.
The food the atmosphere everything about this establishment is AMAZING!
tasty.. the fish. All of it is delicious.
The greens here with the tiny slivers of carrots..... Relish. No pork in this facility.
eat hereeeee!!!! eat here. this place is the truth. I had it for the first time today and everything was wonderful. the cabbage and jollof rice were heavenly, so was the soursop drink. everything tastes real and healthy. thank you for the experience
Food is AH-MAZING!!!! Full of flavor, fare pricing, and a good amount of vegetarian options. The home made teas and punches keep me going back as well. Serving hours are short so I strongly advise getting there early....she has a loyal customer base and will sell out!
