167 Rue Fraser, Rivière-du-Loup, QC G5R 1E2, Canada
Informal inn featuring a garden, as well as breakfast & a polished restaurant/bar.
A little gem. Fairly close to the Highway. The room is quaint and very nice. Four poster bath. Separate shower with lots of pressure. Beautiful restaurant related to the inn and just next door.
Really nice place. The girl who helped me when i arrived was amazing. I stayed in Mr. james room and it was very nice. I would recommend it to anyone who is passing by.
First off, check in is a bit confusing - you have to go to the restaurant immediately next door to check in, the signage isn't clear - and we read/speak French. The parking lot is the gravel one across the street, which is shared with the aforementioned restaurant. We had the Mr. James room and while quite spacious, it has some odd design choices - the headboard of the bed is actually like a fireplace mantle (I'd imagine you could hit your head on it getting up if you aren't careful), there aren't any bedside tables, there is a freestanding tub in the corner of the room (I guess it's next to the fireplace so it would be nice in the winter?) There are plenty of windows, but they are all street level at the front of the house and facing the restaurant side so I kept the blinds drawn for privacy. Breakfast was in a takeout box in the fridge in the kitchen and contained one bottle each of apple/orange juice, two croissants, two muffins, and two coffee pods. The croissants especially were rock hard cold but there is a microwave to warm them up. As the owners said as a response to one of the reviews, it's better than nothing for the price :) In summary it felt like a bed and breakfast (especially since it's a heritage house), light on the breakfast, and without any attention from the owners.
Our room named Mr. James at this bed & breakfast was absolutely perfect!||The room was very quaint and had everything we needed. The kitchen had a Keurig where we could brew our coffee and our continental breakfast was in the fridge with our name on it. It contained our two Keurig pods, juice, muffins and two croissants.||The kitchen had a full fridge where we could store some of our food, and also we refroze our ice packs. The cupboards had dishes, cups and glasses. ||The bathroom was stocked with towels, shampoo and soap. The water pressure in the new shower was awesome!||The bed was very comfortable. There was a t.v. and bar fridge in the suite.||We would highly recommend this Bed & Breakfast!!||Thank you!
Hello travelers,||||We spent a night at Auberge Mr James after a long drive across Ontario on our way back to Nova Scotia.|||| Very friendly service, as we hadn't brushed up much on our french before going on our trip.|||| Lovely and large, beautiful room with so many little touches that made you feel like a welcomed guest.||||It also included breakfast with the use of a kitchen and a well set dining area. ||||Very sweet little place to stay!||||Cheers,||||AS
Had an excellent stay at Auberge Mr James. Lovely spacious rooms with old fashioned decor. Had access to our own kitchen space. On arrival the kettle didn’t work but Alex immediately went out and purchased a new one for us so we could make our cup of tea! In the evening we ate their restaurant, they have $15 promo meals. Absolutely excellent food. Would definitely stay here again.
We totally were amazed at this wonderful excellent scenic stay here at Auberge Mr.James. We were beyond spoiled and the place extremely comfortable and cozy. Adrien is one amazing magical kind chef-host and his breakfast feast is over and beyond anyone's expectations. The breakfast feast and the view over looking the river is awesome. truly one great experience that will be remember for ever.
This was such a cute, charming place to stay. The beds and pillows were very comfy. WiFi was good and there was AC in the room. The bathroom was huge, with a standing shower, tub and lots of counterspace. The breakfast was left in the fridge for us to heat up in the morning. The morning rush at breakfast is a bit chaotic but the other guests were super friendly, which made the whole thing fun. You have to check-in at the restaurant next door. The check-out process was confusing as there was no one at the restaurant.
Noisy air conditioning! No lunch! dog smell
Mr. James is an absolutely stunning home. We stayed in the Mr. James Suite, which includes a bathtub, fireplace, private porch/entrance, and chandelier above the bed. the staff is polite (and bilingual) and we have NO complaints. I come back to Ontario from New Brunswick often, and this will be my new place to stay for every trip! mr james is an absolutely beautiful home. we stayed in the mr james suite, which includes a bathtub, fireplace, porch/private entrance, and a chandelier over the bed. the staff are lobely (and bilingual), and we have NO complaints. I travel back often from nb to ontario, and this will be my new place to stay for each trip!
Rooms: Large room, neat, great shower, no breakfast provided but we were given a bag with coffre and orange juice. Staff were very helpful. Rooms
The welcome is excellent. Guillaume is a friendly and caring host. This is the most positive aspect of the place. The location is interesting but on a busy but noisy street. The place is clean with a certain character. Unfortunately, the air conditioning is generated by a floor unit, so super noisy. The bedding is quality. On the other hand, the towels are rather stiff. The bathroom is huge compared to the shower which is quite tiny. During our stay, unfortunately renovations to the exterior began around 6:30-7:00. Not really the owners fault, but still unpleasant. All in all, we were disappointed by the place that seemed very promising to us on the web. We were there for two nights, but decided to leave after the first night.
Disappointing for a hostel. Spacious room, bathroom with bathtub to the great joy of my student daughter who hadnt had one for 6 months... No heat
Really very large room and very pretty with gas fireplace. I was in one of the basement rooms which is less attractive though. Comfortable bed, nice bathroom, shared kitchen with a cold lunch included and coffee capsule. The reception is at the Le Saint-Patrice restaurant. Nice welcome with lots of information. #: hostel, lunch, bathroom Noteworthy details: Breakfasts included
Avoid....NOWHERE on the Auberge website is it mentioned that dogs are accepted! Bad surprise. Smell of Febreeze so strong that it hits the throat...air conditioning on the floor which makes a hell of a noise, impossible to sleep the walls are made of cardboard...we went to sleep elsewhere $164 in the trash!
We looked for accommodation that accepted dogs in RDL, only for a sleep stop halfway... So we found the Mr James hostel. Without great expectations. What a surprise when the host called us before our arrival: be careful on their part regarding our old dog and the steps in the hostel!!! Wow Upon our arrival, a warm and friendly welcome! Ultra clean room, absolutely nothing negative to say to you!
Small, friendly inn. In quadruple occupancy the beds are too small, like small double beds... almost 3/4! The rooms are still well equipped. The lunch included in the reservation consists of a brown bag left in the fridge and containing: An apple A croissant and a chocolatine in plastic bags, so not very good. A small container of jam that I believe to be homemade. A Keurig coffee capsule and a 2% milk cream An orange juice Too bad, because they have an adjacent restaurant. Otherwise, for the price, and considering that it is the least expensive accommodation in the region, and given the cleanliness of the place and the room, I dont think they deserve less than 3 stars, but I dont I wouldnt give 4!
Hostel in the heart of RDL, well located. The accommodation was comfortable and clean. The building has a lot of character with historic decor. The reception in the adjacent restaurant was not smooth. The servers were overwhelmed and did not have time to provide adequate reception. The included breakfast was VERY disappointing. For 2 people, we had: 1 croissant, 1 muffin, 1 juice and a single DECA coffee capsule. Lunch included was one of our decision criteria, so it was a bit of false advertising to attract customers.
Very good service
The breakfast would have been better if stored in air tight containers. The cardboard box let the croissants go hard.
The room are very nice and the service is nice.
Alright! Clean and well located. We enjoyed our stay!
Best sleep, best breakfast and best shower in 2 week holiday! (This was my last nigh of 2 week holiday)
Very nice rooms and very good restaurant!
We were charged $10 extra for the room and were never explained why. The heating was faulty and the wifi did not work. The person at the reception of the hostel restaurant who we asked for help was beyond rude and made no effort to help us. Clearly we were bothering her. Fortunately, we managed to find another employee who was more friendly and tried to help us by calling the manager. Despite everything, the excess amount on the bill, the faulty heating, the wifi that doesnt work and the service that leaves something to be desired, its a good combination to be sure that we wont return to this place. Other than that, the restaurants food was decent, simple and comforting so I give it at least 2 stars out of 5.
Beautiful inn, very high quality restaurant next door. The room, in addition to being comfortable, was very pretty. My dog felt safe there which is really a plus :) great discovery
I loved it, a beautiful place and very romantic.
I had a very good night
Very pleasant and above all comfortable!
Nice and pleasant stay, friendly staff, spacious rooms
Rustic, comfortable and quiet
Good service, pleasant, like at home
Really cute house to stay in. We were on the top floor with a huge bathroom. There was a nice AC in each bedroom and the bedsheet was very thick and warm. Breakfast was prepared. Very nice experience.
Old house inhabited with antiques. Comfortable bed, luxurious rooms. Excellent lunch. Highly recommended.
Nice clean room
What a steal. I stayed in the Boss room which was so luxe for one person. The shower comfortably fits three. Restaurant next door was pretty okay, very convenient.
Very nice room but poor soundproofing. Very busy street. Very noisy air conditioning. Reception at the neighboring restaurant, a little impersonal. I was expecting a real B and B lunch and not a plate to reheat. I dont think Ill go back there.
We had a family room, but in the cellar!! No view and impossible to open a (basement) window and a persistent musty smell (logical...). In Switzerland, this type of accommodation is not even legal.
Beautiful room worthy of a suite, excellent welcome
