There is no better dining experience in Sydney. Everything works like clockwork. The waitstaff are the ultimate professionals, and the food and cocktails are fabulous. Judy McMahon sure knows how to run a good restaurant.

We were a table of 10 people on a very busy Saturday just before Christmas. Everything at Catalina was magical, from the beautiful weather - sunny day and glorious harbour views to wonderful Peach Bellinis on the terrace - seamless service all afternoon and many wonderful dishes - each & every one absolutely perfect. Catalina is a must for everyone who enjoys the best of everything in food, wines and service and ambience. Thank you Catalina for a wonderful day. Catalina is still one of the most wonderful restaurants in Sydney. We had a fantastic lunch, the food continues to impress and the service is always on point. One small thing, it was our 25th wedding anniversary, which everyone in the restaurant knew, which was lovely. It might have been nice to get a small glass of bubbles or a dessert on the house to celebrate. Obviously there is no obligation (we are certainly not entitled to anything), but with a $500+ lunch, it would have been a nice touch. Anyway, loved it as always. If you have never been - you need to go. And dont forget to have the crab crumpet - so bloody delicous!

I took my wife to Catalina to celebrate a special birthday and, from the moment we walked in the door, it was a truly memorable experience - the light from the harbour sparkling through the big glass windows, amazing, friendly service and food that can only be described as perfection on a plate. Catalina Restaurant was a dining venue I had been wanting to go to for a very long time and I finally had the opportunity this past weekend. Our group of six was celebrating a birthday and we were all looking forward to the dining experience at Catalina. Unfortunately, the experience was ruined due to the noise levels in the restaurant. A table of six, we struggled to hear each other speak. There was a wedding party of approximately 40-45 and we were seated along side their group of tables. We could have been mistaken to be part of the wedding guests, based on the table layout within the restaurant. When we booked we were not advised there would be a wedding of such a size within the venue and there were no acknowledgements of the noise, nor were there any apologies forthcoming from the staff. The noise truly spoiled our celebration and the dining the experience we all had been looking forward to. I feel our table was compromised by the location within the restaurant and the proximity to the wedding party. The food was simply delicious and beautifully presented, but we will not be back.

The food at CATALINA Restaurant was delicious! The dishes were perfectly cooked and the flavours amazing. Our friends commented on the great service and that is was top-notch. The staff here truly care about their guests and were very friendly and helpful. We will definately be returning soon for more fun and laughs.

We went to lunch for our wedding anniversary. We hadn t been to Catalina s for some time, and had been recently recommended by good friends. We chose the 7 course degustation vegetarian option with matching wines. OMG what a meal! The explosions of flavour, the wine pairing, the location and attentive and knowledgeable staff just truly amazing. So good it almost brought me to tears! (It was a very special occasion for us also). Seriously blew us away. Thank you. Vegetarian options: Amazing variations of vegetarian food, each dish was very different and beautiful in its unique way.

The food was mediocre and significantly overpriced. I won t be returning and cant recommend it.

Unfortunately, the service last night was disappointing. I decided to celebrate my birthday at one of my favourite restaurants, now it is no longer on the list. I had the tasting course menu for $180pp last month and loved it, paid $220pp for a 7-course last night, I had high expectations but wasnt worth it at all. - I had to ask the waiter for a drink menu - The $180 tasting menu had 4x oysters, and $220 had only 2 - paid more for less. - The rest of the food wasnt as great as I would expect either. - I found a hair in the Moreton Bay bug - the waiter quickly replaced it but I felt uneasy eating the rest of the dishes - Deserts took forever to come out, we waited more than 30 minutes and had to ask for it. - I was welcomed with a happy birthday on arrival but at the end, there were no candles with the desert as it had been the last few times, I couldnt be bothered asking anymore as we just wanted to get out of there. Sad to say, I wont be back anytime soon.

We enjoyed a fabulous weekday lunch to celebrate a birthday. We tried the Spring tasting menu, I would highly recommend. We had seven different course in smaller quantity. All dishes are nice and fresh, I would highly recommend Catalina for celebrating a special event.

Elegant experience that ticked all the boxes: food, service, vibes and the view were epic. Only downside: they only offer a fixed price a la carte menu: 3 courses @ $150 per person. No flexibility there! What if I only want to eat 1 course?! Our friend wasn t ordering dessert and he asked if he can get 2 entrées instead, and the answer was he will have to pay $20 extra to do so!

Catalina is always special. I dont go often, but when I do Im always reminded why I love it there. Ill start with the food: I cant really fault it. top shelf ingredients and irreproachable presentation are a mainstay, but its the subtle way that the chef assembles what sometimes feels like a lot of ingredients into a whole that really works. Nothing seems over-powering but balances together just right. The service is well oiled, discreet but ever present. The sommeliers all seem to know the extensive wine list down to little anecdotes about the growers. Finally the atmosphere and the views. Im smitten with rose bay and being able to have a drink on the balcony overlooking the iconic Sydney Harbour with its choreography of seaplanes and ferries whirring past is always magical. I highly recommend going there for lunch or early dinner to really get the most from this unique location.

My partner and I had a lovely birthday lunch at Catalina. Impeccable friendly service as always, and the food was just amazing. We had fresh oysters laced with a delicate piquant dressing, then aged duck (for me) and grouper (my partner), sides of crispy hot fries and salad with buttermilk dressing, and finished with grapefruit sorbet and syrup, and a lemon tart. Heavenly.

A meal at Catalina is always a delight. Often decide last minute on a sunny day to head down for lunch and love that they open 7 days. The staff are always charming and attentive, the food and wine is top notch ...and the setting is perfect. Last time had two friends decide to join for a wine after our meal and the staff accommodated them immediately with a smile. Theres a good reason why I keep going back...because its so good ;-)

The food and service here is always flawless! The staff are perfectly attentive, and the selection of drinks and amazing dishes means that noone is ever left disappointed. I have been going to Catalina s for many years and it has remained a consistent favourite! They do special mid week deals also which are great value, and also make a little extra fuss if it s a special occasion, which is/was lovely. Highly recommend!

Salmon for entre was nice. Lamb rump for main was just average, needed much more seasoning. Dessert was average also. Tried the fettuccine entre also. Below average Definitely not worth the price at all. $150 per person, terrible value for money. $32 per person for sparkling water, with nothing to suggest this price. Plus a $130 surcharge with no warning either. Wouldn t go back or recommend.

Catalina is definitely a venue to consider if you are looking for a special venue to celebrate a birthday with family or share a romantic evening with your partner. The variety of dishes, level of service and overall ambiance is fabulous. The team at Catalina really take the time to ensure you are well looked after and feel special from the moment you enter the door to the moment you leave. I regrettably am unable to remember the name of the wonderful team who looked after us last night, however I would like to extend my deepest appreciation and gratitude to the whole team for making my birthday such a lovely memorable experience. My husband and I will definitely be returning soon to enjoy another wonderful meal and experience. Just a minor note for the chef, whilst the food was overall incredible and the portions generous, I would recommend potentially reviewing the lamb dish on the menu. 3/6 guests dining with us had chosen the lamb for their main and whilst very well cooked, we all had shared a similar opinion that the lamb did slightly lack some seasoning. It may be worth looking into potentially pairing the lamb with either a more rich jus or even adding a chimichurri like sauce to really compliment and enhance the beautiful taste of the lamb.

Celebrating a very special birthday for my best friend and it didn t disappoint. Amazing just can t be said enough. The food, the service and obviously the amazing views. It was the best long lunch. We booked at 1.30pm so we didn t have to be out quickly and there was no hurry for us to leave at all. I think we left at about 5.30 and it was perfect. Highly recommend as a celebration or just because .

A true testament to a great restaurant is its consistency over time, and Catalina has an abundance of consistency with fabulous food and the most magical view in Sydney. We had the warmest greeting from James, which made us feel like we were home and really set off our lunch to be the most amazing afternoon. All the staff were amazing, kind, and knowledgeable. The food was scrumptious, with the star dish, the fish taco, blowing our minds. Thank you, Catalina, for an unforgettable experience!

The service by staff and the food are certainly five star. Presentation by the kitchen is excellent. Only down side is that when the restaurant is busy, it becomes rather noisy with everyone talking louder in order to be heard! Maybe some soft furnishings on the wall / floor would help to reduce the sounds echoing.

Atmosphere - the restaurant was full, and with hard surfaces on floor, walls and ceiling, it was hard to hear. The restaurant would do well to invest in some sound deadening materials on the ceiling. When a restaurant demands a $300 guarantee at the time of booking to guard against a potential no-show and stipulates a two-hour dining window, its only natural to expect an exceptional dining experience in a bustling establishment. Unfortunately, our recent visit to Catalina left us with anything but satisfaction. The food, though not terrible, was simply average. The menu felt uninspired and overall quality didnt live up to the lofty expectations set by the restaurants pretentious policies. We found elements in the six-course meal to be less compatible leaving us feeling bloated. The service was slow and the courses were spread out over 2 hours (7.30 PM to 9.30 PM). Yet, despite knowing we were celebrating a special occasion, and half of the restaurant being empty for the rest of the evening (pictures attached), we were seated next to the noisiest table in the establishment a party of 15 with three children. The noise was so overwhelming that it was nearly impossible to hear each other, let alone enjoy our meal or hear oneself think. For a place that positions itself as a high-end dining destination, this lack of consideration for seating arrangements was incredibly frustrating. Sure, we could have requested a table change, but thats something the restaurant staff should have anticipated and managed without prompting. After all, we were there to enjoy a special evening, not to instruct them on how to do their job. To think that $180 per person was only the introductory price for the six-course meal, with the full price being $220, only added insult to injury. The entire experience was far from worth it. I would choose Nours menu, service and pricing over Catalina anyday. Dietary restrictions: They had halal and vegetarian options.

Still great after all these years! Went to a birthday lunch on a Thursday and the restaurant was virtually full which is a good sign. The food is always tasty and the wine list is excellent with a good selection by the glass. Service was excellent with a special shout out to our Spanish waiter.

A delightful evening, every dish was perfection

Hosting visiting friends from NY and their five year old - who was well behaved for a two-hour plus lunch. Great wines throughout. Attentive service as usual. All dishes on table were excellent including desserts. Only issue was the cacio e pepe my wife ordered for her entree was quite salty. Kid-friendliness: Friend s 5yo son started with The fish tacos, and for his main, he had a large-ish portion of a red sauce pasta dish. Seemed like fun food but the portions were too much but I wasn t involved in his ordering.

Catalina truly stands out as one of the best restaurants in Sydney, offering consistently high quality, innovative dishes paired with perfectly crafted cocktails. The warm and attentive service combined with the relaxed atmosphere creates an unforgettable dining experience!

After every visit to Catalina, we always talk about when we should go back. Everything about the restaurant is first class. Highly recommended.

The food was great but this is probably one of the worst service i have received in a fine dining restaurant. The service was slow, unresponsive and obviously not enough service staff to cope with the weekend crowd. The plates for my main course were not cleared from my table even after the dessert was served. To add to my misery, they have forgotten to put the happy birthday wordings and candle on the dessert despite informing them in advance. sigh. Coles probably have better service than them. There s tons of fine dining in Sydney and you would be better off hoping to any other restaurants. The 2 star for Service because they provided baby chair for my 20mo toddler. Kid-friendliness: Baby chair was provided and there is a 3 course kids menu at 65 pp or main course (steak) at 35 pp with sufficient portion for a child.

I recently celebrated my best friends 40th birthday at Catalina in Rose Bay, and it was outstanding. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Every dish was perfect. We enjoyed a stunning day with beautiful views. Catalina provided an unforgettable experience for such a special occasion.

Wow, what an experience! From the moment we entered the bright airy dining room til the end and boarded the fairy back to CQ. The Winter Tasting Menu was spot on. Every mouthful was an explosion of flavour and the wine pairings - perfect . The attention to detail on the plate right through to the attentiveness of staff made our experience world class. Lets not forget the view. Spectacular! Catalinas, you made our 25th wedding anniversary a year to remember. Thanks again and we cant wait to visit again.

Overall somewhat dysfunctional outcome all things considered. The staff was friendly and curteous but we had problems with the wrong dishes being served continuously and with some aspects of the service. One dish in particular was a poor apology for its Italian equivalent. Additionally we had ordered the $150 three course fixed price option but were presented with a menu that did not reflect this accurately without any explanation of what was included and on ordering we were not advised if the specific item would be an additional expense.

Still one of my favourite restuartants in Sydney, Catalina Dreams Cocktail is one not to be missed, the 3 course menu still represents reasonable value for the quality, but must say preferred the scallops they way they used to do them. Im sure it wont be long until we are back again.

We had the absolute pleasure of having Sunday lunch at Catalina Rose Bay for my parents 50th Wedding anniversary. From the time we were greeted until the end was a magnificent experience. The service, food, atmosphere and outlook was spot on. Thanks again team for making my parents special anniversary so memorable. We will be back
