1834 Rue Des Cascades O, Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec J2S 5J6, Canada
Relaxed bistro serving French-inspired plates & cocktails in an art-filled space with a terrace.
This place is awesome perfect for a date
The food selections are great and the quality is excellent. Service is top notch. Great experience
L'Espiègle used to be my favorite place to dine in Saint-Hyacinthe! 💔 The last 3 visits however, have been nothing short of total disappointment. I have brought visitors from each end of Canada and friends from Europe to try the most delicious ciabatta sandwiches they ever tasted and now you can get the same on the rack at Provigo. Less meat, less juice, cold and terrible, dry bread that was once soft and dreamy. The side salad was once creamy with plenty of house dressing... What has happened? Change of ownership? Recipes? Staff? If nothing else, bring back the BREAD! Our waitress was terrible. 2 times I sat with an empty beer glass, wanting more. Then, we had to ask about our dessert and coffee as we sat twiddling our thumbs and after 25 minutes waiting for our bill, we made our way to the counter to find it ourselves. My boyfriend now vows to never go back and waste $150 on a dinner for 2 there again..I am so sad!
Great service, mediocre food. Great atmosphere.
Staff super warm, the service A+, the food fantastic.
Very calm on mondays. Food and service was exceptional, prices mid-range. Beautiful decor. Loved it!
This great food was cooked just like home.
Good food. Service is SLOWWWWW Tartar was very good.
Good place
cold soup carbonara pasta lacked taste and it was cold holy have been there twice Ive been there and its a disappointment
Restaurant not to recommend! Terrible service, very very ordinary food and very high price!
2 out of 4 people had the soup and a snail starter. The starters are served at the same time as the soups. The 2 people ate their starters cold. 2 out of 4 people chose the filet mignon. Ordered 1 rare and medium. Both arrived well cooked. When I say well cooked, not even a hint of redness. Dry meat with pieces of overcooked bacon The chef should redo his classes, it just doesnt make sense not to know how to cook a piece of meat well done! The guy who receives customers at the entrance asks us if we would like pepper with the soups, because we were sitting next to the entrance, everyone said yes please. Never seen the pepper shaker If you want to eat potatoes in exponential quantities, this is the right place! September 28, vegetables cost nothing at this time of year, put them on the plate instead of potatoes!! When you have 3 or 4 times more potatoes than meat... Restaurant that thinks its 5 stars but is 1 at the most 2. First time for 4 new customers who wanted to try something new, Youll never see us again, sorry. 100% disaster except the waitress who was very good!! Thank you so much! So not your fault, poor thing... Not recommended especially because of the prices!!! Prices, just no sense for what was served. The decor and the chairs, you wont get a Wow!! I want this in our house!! Very low end for the price which is so overpriced. We expected so much better. No one tried desserts, firstly because of the prices and too afraid to get fooled for desserts too.
We havent been to this restaurant in 2 years. I dont know if they have changed ownership but its not what it used to be. The prices are exorbitant. Ciabatta for $29, tartare for $34 and soup for $16. Very average quality too. Its over for me. At this price there are much better restaurants
Really disappointed with everything I was almost afraid of the chairs on the terrace and steak what can I say not edible I dont understand the 4 stars really mediocre I swear the steak even a dog wont eat it Finished for me
Very good restaurant, perfect service! THANKS!
A rather pleasant service with an explanation of the dishes by the waitress. The cuisine is good with a fairly varied and original choice of dishes. However, it is quite expensive, like all the restaurants on rue des Cascades. The restaurant could do with a refresh in terms of decoration but the terrace is still nice.
Not terrible but not fabulous either. A soup of the moment with asparagus at $17 is exaggerated... The dishes lack work. I think the best thing in this restaurant are the fries with small mayos, the squid starter was good but really too small. The cocktails are average too. They are due for a refresh in terms of decoration. The floor is turned black, needs to be sanded and refinished, the walls really need to be repainted, dirty ventilation grill not to mention that a good part of the dining room looks like the toilets with the doors open, really not awesome. We were not offered access to the terrace, water was not served upon our arrival, etc.
Very expensive restaurant for the quality of the food (very very ordinary) I went there twice in 2 years and I was not impressed My steak, very thin, was super tough even though I asked for medium bleeding. For $40 I expected better. The first time I went there, it was mac and cheese with 2 small pieces of pork for around $30. It was good, but not worth the price. The service is good, but again, it depends on who you come across.
Meals without harmony of flavor, poor quality products. Excessive price for the equivalent of a snack meal. Pompous and presumptuous dish names. 2nd experience (we gave the runner a chance) even more disappointing. Avoid!
Our 3rd visit. The first more than 5 years ago. It was excellent. We did it again 2 years ago. Quite ordinary without leaving any traces. We decided to give it another chance... Really ordinary with the unpleasant feeling of having been had. It s simple, one of the owners simply decided to become a cook, I m afraid. Theres no way this person studied cooking. Only the smoked salmon sandwiches were decent but at an exorbitant price for a sandwich ($26). A 2-ball burger in a cheap bun with rib sauce and 2 slices of Kraft orange cheese (very thin)! A mound of coleslaw and fries for $31! An unfortunate Bigmac is tastier. And what about my pudding. Anything. An improbable but above all impossible mixture. No agreement. Blood sausage with a sweet confit with pieces of bacon. Small slice of green apple for the photo but above all the whole thing placed on a puree and topped with crumbled feta cheese. I tried every possible mix to see if I could find anything interesting! Unfortunately no. So I stopped eating. In my opinion, the owners have not tasted what they serve otherwise they would manage to avoid having destructive comments like this. And the solution is quite simple, just know how to cook. For a restaurant it seems to me that its quite basic, right?
Very nice discovery...everything was perfect...Sublime chicken penne...thanks to the whole team for getting my evening off to a good start with friends!
Excellent salmon tartare! And the mussels were also delicious.
One of my favorite restaurants!! Everything is perfect! The food, the atmosphere and what can I say about the service! Plus they have options for my celiac husband! You have to try it!
Excellent dinner and top quality service!! Congratulations to the whole team!!
Best tartare I have eaten. Their fish & ship is also a must. In short, everything I have eaten there has been a delight.
Way too expensive for the quality and quantity. The special (filet mignon) was presented to us without mentioning the price and finally upon receiving the bill, it was DOUBLE the other dishes. $62 for a slightly burnt steak and fries is unacceptable.
Exceptional atmosphere, warm staff. We feel as if we were staying with friends. The food is fabulously good!
Group of 20 having reserved in advance. More than 20 minutes before being able to order drinks. Another 30 minutes to order the food (we were given the full menu, for a group we would have accepted a reduced menu if it would have allowed adequate service). 1 hour more to start receiving the first plates. The others were finished before I even received my plate. I ordered pasta with smoked salmon. The pasta was bland (probably not even salt in the water) with roughly cut and uncooked white onion and pieces of garoche (theres no better word) salmon in the bowl. No sauce or any flavor. The waitress came twice to ask if it was to our liking. We clearly said no both times and she left without saying anything. I asked to pay saying it was a very inadequate and unpleasant experience in every way. The manager then appeared (he was having drinks with employees at another table) and tried to explain to me why I was wrong and that I was the only one in my group complaining. He snatched the bill from my hands and asked me to leave. The other people in my group gradually left, also saying that it was a lousy experience both in terms of the service and the quality of the food.
Excellent service, perfect food and very nice atmosphere I will go back and recommend
Being a fan of salmon tartars, this one was excellent Tasty, fresh, with a beautiful presentation. The shrimp starter, the same. The food was to our liking for all 3. The service was ok, nothing more than that. Great experience, warm atmosphere with the tables spaced apart, I will go back :)
I went to this restaurant for the first time a few weeks ago. The service was extremely bad, my friend asked if it was possible to order, the waitress very stupidly told her no, that she would come back later. The pasta was tasteless, my vegetables seemed boiled, everything tasted like water. The only acceptable thing was my glass of Aperol Spritz. The ciabattas were okay. The manager or manager came to me to charge me because the waitress was busy. He told me that I was lying, that it was a great restaurant and he finally finished by saying that if I came back I would change my mind. I will not return there and I strongly advise against it. Go put your money elsewhere.
A cool June evening brings me to the bar counter to enjoy mussels in blue cheese cream sauce and thin slices of delicious fried potatoes. A service brilliantly provided that evening by 2 charming blonde people. Really mischievous...
Food is fantastic, service poor. Too bad, this will be my last visit
The food is good but the service was terrible, thumbs on the plate, leaves without listening to us. The dish was served lukewarm. Really terrible service.
Very good cuisine, friendly welcome, both on the phone and on site. Good tartars. Book the evenings of the show! We spontaneously offer a discount if there is an evening show. The only downside is the noise, the restaurant deserves a few acoustic panels on the ceiling to lower the sound volume.
A great discovery!
Chic and delicious. Perfect for a romantic dinner.
A must-see in Montérégie, in the heart of old Saint-Hyacinthe! Small restaurant where half of the table has a view of the kitchen. The osso bucco mentioned by the waitress, a choice which was not on the menu, took me back to my childhood with this typically Quebec touch. Worthy of a local grandmother sprinkled with a gastronomic touch. What can we say about their sandwich bread: a treat! And the salmon starter is a revelation. The chef maintains a close relationship with the customers and this adds to the atmosphere. Very kid friendly and attentive to the child experience.
Very good little restaurant, tasty plates and varied dishes. I always have great service at this place!
Aside from the tables of 2 very close together, we loved our visit. The atmosphere is pleasant, the service friendly and efficient and what can we say about the menu; delicious! starter of snail puff pastry with port wine sauce (we asked for bread so as not to leave a single drop of sauce...so good) we had the salmon served with mushroom and squash risotto (the best I have eaten to date) and profiteroles (2), the choice of wines is correct , the price a little expensive but given the quality of the dishes and the service its worth it I think. Second time at this restaurant but not the last...
Beautiful restaurant, beautiful atmosphere, competent staff, I appreciated their attention to food allergies. Good value for money
Excellent foods and services
Super good, the flank steak was perfect and the service very friendly, thank you!
Very good service! My partner and I only took starters (3). They are delicious and surprising! The presentation is perfect. A magnificent evening on this warm Saturday in May! A first time for us at Lespi gle but not the last!
Fantastic experience, we ate really well, it was fresh, tasty and very affordable. A special thank you to Dany for her impeccable service.
Excellent food as always and service that we loved.
It wasnt the first time at this restaurant, I was disappointed today. The title of the dish was interesting but it was mac and cheese. The cappuccino was lukewarm and the cake still frozen. Its expensive for poor quality.
Nothing exceptional for the price.
EXCELLENT !!! GORGEOUS ! Delicious. Great service. Home and everything else. To see again and again
Very nice restaurant, but you dont have your space since the tables are all pushed together. The dishes were very good, but I would say the prices are expensive for the quantity. I would go back there just for a drink.
Everything is great! The service, the menu, the atmosphere. Assured crush! (BIG favorite for the fried squid)
Closed for summer chances from July 24 to August 9, 2020. Returning August 10, 2022.
Excellent restaurant, I recommend the duck Alfredo pasta
Excellent value for money.
Parking: Stationnement gratuit tout près
Very nice discovery!
We really appreciate the delicious meals and the waitress was attentive.
Beautiful terrace and the service is excellent. My favorite is the potatoes with the assortment of mayonnaises. A delight!
Excellent service and the meal was excellent too. I recommend it.
Good food and good service. A beautiful quote
Average service... Very disappointed however with the quality of my meal for the price....
Good food service a little slow 2 hours before we got our plate
Beautiful little place I love it
The food and service was impeccable!
Simply delicious and friendly
I love the mussels and fries, very good service
Extreme disappointment on several points! 1. I ordered a sangria to start, it looked nothing like sangria neither in taste nor in appearance. 2. The entrance was correct but nothing more. 3. I had beef tartare as a meal. It arrived, and by the looks of it, it was brown (not fresh minced meat style...) and it didnt taste good. The person who accompanied me also thought it was really not fresh/good. His was salmon, it was ok, but nothing more. I told my waitress. A few moments later, the manager came to see me to tell me that I was the problem since she had confirmed with her cook and that he had made the same recipe as usual, etc... If I took something else, I had to PAY, even though I had already just paid $30 for the tartare. It really disappointed me so I didnt recommend anything else! Finally, $175 later, I didnt have dinner and I was told that I was the problem... VERY bad experience + POOR service from the manager. I do not recommend this restaurant and will never go back!
I returned to this restaurant with good memories in mind, but I am extremely disappointed with the experience. The quality of the food is really disappointing compared to the price paid. I dont recommend the tartare at all, to the point where I even doubt the freshness of the food. Sorry The Mischievous, but Im not coming back anymore.
Summary of a disappointing evening. Arriving around 6:10 p.m., we quickly ordered cocktails and meals. In just a few minutes, the starter and cocktail are served with a smile... everything is fine. 6:45 p.m., my wife orders a second cocktail. But the rain starts, and we have to leave the terrace to go inside. Nothing is going well anymore. 7:10 p.m. we had to intercept another waitress to find out whats going on with the cocktail. Sorry, we forgot you was the response. 7:20 p.m., we asked for the plates ordered at 6:15 p.m. Sorry, we forgot you again, was the response. Until then, I forgive the mistakes, probably caused by the rain which disrupted the plans. But it took another 25 minutes before we finally received the main course. Between the two, we had to ask for bread and water... but in the end we were served fries because the bread would have taken too long!!! On the bill we were credited for the cocktails (a lovely touch) but I never felt like we were a priority, despite the repeated mistakes. Too bad, the food was decent and the service friendly. But almost 2 hours for a simple dish of mussels is much more than a simple mistake.
Excellent service. Tasty dishes well presented.
very disappointed with my experience at the mischievous. However, we had received very good comments before trying it. to start, on a table of 5 people, 4 of the plates arrived cold. for the scallop plate, it was good, but very cold. the plate of mussels contained several which were empty (normal thing, except that it was half the portion.) for cooking the flank steak requested rare/blue, received medium/well cooked. the waitress did not ask if the cooking was to our liking. It seems to me that, at the price you pay for a steak in a restaurant, it is the least you can do to ensure that the customer likes the way it is cooked. after approaching the waitress, she returned the steak to the kitchen. I am the first person to understand that cooking and service are two completely different things, however I believe that the waitress did not play her role well in ensuring that her customers were satisfied with their plates. especially when she cleared my plate of salmon which had barely been touched, because it tasted burnt. It seems to me that it is obvious that there is a problem with the customers plate if it is full when the table is cleared. the salmon was dry, burnt and cold, but she didnt ask me if it was to my liking, she just took the plate without commenting. we also waited a really long time for her to open the second wine shop, which lingered on the table in front of us for a good 30-40 minutes. we intended to drink 5 to 6 different bottles during the evening, but the waitress brought us the desert menu without offering us other wines. so we decided at that moment to leave the restaurant and end the evening elsewhere.
Forest ciabatta as good as ever... and Bilboquet beer! Special mention to our waitress
Excellent service and delicious food!
Great service, friendly employees, satisfying plates and new cocktail menu. Have a nice evening and great food!
Magnificent restaurant. Everything was very good. Good way to start the evening before a show.
Pleasantly surprised Fast service Excellent hot and spicy meal.
Very nice restaurant, relaxed atmosphere. The dishes were delicious. The only downside was that the portions were a little too big, I didnt finish my main course! I recommend it to all foodies
Excellent restaurant, I will definitely return
Beautiful atmosphere, the restaurant and the chef are assets with regard to the tourist attraction of Saint-Hyacinthe. A semi-gastronomic restaurant to eat well and spend a pleasant evening. Offers beers from the Bilboquet microbrewery which is also an emblem of the city of Saint-Hyacinthe.
Following the suggestion of our waitress, I ate a duck tartare...absolutely exquisite. Thank you for the treat for my birthday, a generous gesture on your part and much appreciated on my part.
Always perfect
Excellent cuisine
Definitely one of the best restaurants in the region! I went there with my work team and we all loved it. You wont leave dissatisfied!
Just okay! Nice atmosphere. Service lacks experience... Food is good, but overprice.. Restaurant with potential, but the restaurateur should review the service, presentation and prices (+6.95 for a lemon tart instead of the limited table dhôte offering?!) $13 for soup? $9 for fries? $13 for a small Cesar salad? There are some things that dont make sense... Best wishes...
Very good service, quantity of plates to improve compared to other comparable restaurants but its delicious! THANKS
Great !
Delicious!
I went there during a pandemic, for a lunch with colleagues. My verdict... I would have given this restaurant ten stars. Everything is perfect... except the disinfectant dispensers. The food, the price, the service, the terrace.... Woooooow! I adore!
Excellent atmosphere and very original menu. Delicious food!
Really good and very good service. Thank you Martine (waitress).
Really good, everything is homemade, the dishes are worth their price due to the taste and portions
We ordered to bring the tartare tasting, it was delicious!
Chic, ambient place with a good wine menu. Some drinks are also available but that is not their strength. The meals are also excellent. For a first date it s a great place.
As usual we are always satisfied with the menu offered. Its always excellent and you also have excellent service. Well done!
Its a very nice restaurant, the food is excellent and the service is quite quick. But the waitress much too stressed and stressful.
This restaurant is well located and very nicely decorated. Unfortunately, this lunchtime, the shrimp skewer on the table dhôte menu was cold, as was the bread for the smoked meat sandwich. Sweet potato soup offered as a starter was good. Few vegetables with the not tasty skewer and rice. Nice salad and good fries accompanied the sandwich, though. Poor service - had to wait and ask for water. Dessert not included. Expensive for, all in all, a very average meal.
Succulent, refined
Excellent meals and service!
Good quiet place. Could improve the beer selection.
Good service, good food!
Very very good
Beautiful restaurant. Great food. The service was very slow...
Restaurant to try without fail. I wanted to try the whole menu. Nice service. The table dhôtes is definitely worth it. It includes a salad, a choice of starter (sold by the piece for around $12) and dessert, all for $14). I will go back without hesitation.
Very good service, very good food, excellent price quality. I ordered the salmon during a business dinner and it was cooked to perfection.
One of my favorite restaurants!
Excellent restaurant and good service
Really unfortunate. It was our favorite restaurant since it opened, but here we were bitterly disappointed. $63 for two very ordinary meals (spaghetti and pork) + 1 coke and a coffee. No starter, no dessert. But for the price, its not that bad, you always expect it. The service, on the other hand, was very ordinary, it was not comfortable and it was cold. But again, Im giving up. On the other hand, the choice of menus and the quality of the food is in free fall. Were going to have to find another restaurant and I find that very unfortunate and disappointing.
Excellent market cuisine. A must-see restaurant in Saint-Hyacinthe
Excellent meal and atmosphere but service leaving a lot to be desired.... No 2nd glass of water, an air of disgust because we didnt have dessert and so on.
Very good food
Very slow service. Food is nice
Good service, friendly and fast. We discovered a Riesling from Quebec, from Léon Courville, which is really worth discovering. As for the food it was ok. The steak was a little too rare, the salmon was without much flavor and the penne was ok. The atmosphere and decor are really good. And the city is absolutely beautiful!
What can I say about my experience? I was at the misiègle 2 weeks ago I ate the salmon tartare it had a good salmon taste and the capers and ginger didnt mask the taste of the salmon too much it was just perfect. I also ate the duck which was cooked to perfection, and what can I say about the vegetables which were just succulent. If I compare my first experience months ago, I was disappointed with the duck. My compliments to the chef of the moment Mr Lapalme I think I was told when I came to eat the service was fast and the waitresses professional. I find that the dishes are definitely worth the advertised price because the quality is there. I recommend. Ha and try the very succulent mushroom pasta and pulled duck too!!!
Good choice of dishes, especially the mussels. Interesting terrace in summer.
The plates are definitely not worth the price. $15 for a starter of very ordinary fried squid and a dessert of defrosted Italian sweets that are worse than Tim Hortons. $28 per plate of rabbit tartare which only tasted like salt (and when we mentioned it the waitress came back after talking to the chef and admitted that he added too much salt). Then despite all this, no rebate, no compensation. This was the first and last time we went to this restaurant.
Very expensive for the quality of food
Place to recommend value for money
Excellent quality and choice
Delicious and nice, although a little expensive...
Friendly atmosphere although a little noisy according to nearby customers. Quality service from friendly staff who are eager to please...I highly recommend...Price $$
Very good food and variety on the menu
Very warm place. Outstanding decor and service. Attentive service and breathtaking food
Very good restaurant in St-Hyacinthe Refined menu $$$
Very good restaurant and excellent service
The quality of the products offered is below what we were used to... change of chef...!?
Good food.
Service so slow. Decent food.
Very good, a great discovery
The chef is hot
Beautiful atmosphere, excellent service! Very good!
Excellent food
Very good service and smiling staff, succulent dishes, I recommend this restaurant to everyone, it is worth the trip to St Hyacinthe
