603 Rue Saint-Georges, Saint-Jérôme, QC J7Z 5B7, Canada
Vintage American diner established in 1945 with bar seating & hot dogs & burgers on the menu.
Probably the weirdest and healthiest hamburger I've ever had. Amazing. Don't know what mad scientist came up with this monster of a hamburger but if it was to takeover America the health crisis would solve itself in a few weeks. Wow! Wow! Wow! Edit: wife ordered the chocolate cake. Very moist and excellent.
Chill atmosphere, cheap prices, generous portions and tasty food, poutine's great. All these people complaining dont seem to understand that you get what you pay for. Dont expect a 3 michelin star experience when you pay like $10 for a poutine lol
Fries like they used to taste in the old days. Generous portions delicious food. The family of staff are always friendly and efficient. I love to add a bit of ketchup and vinegar to my poutine But that’s just me. Club sandwiches are amazing hamburgers also delicious.
Terrible experience, we had the misfortune of sitting at the bar where we witnessed the cooks preparing food with their bare hands, touching raw chicken the veggies then bacon.... The food was disgusting, the gravy sauce is on everything and is really bad. The poutine cheese is also bad. The fries were fried multiple times some of them being as hard as a rock. The bread for the sandwiches seemed really old and not fresh at all. The place seemed to have a line of people waiting so some other stuff might be good, but not what we got (hot chicken, steak burger & poutine bacon).
Stopped in for the first time with my wife, and was friendly greeted by the ladies at the counter. They told us there was a dining room in the back, which is where we sat, in this 60’s diner atmosphere, with jukeboxes still onbthe wall of each booth. We ordered a simple meal of two toasted hotdogs with a regular poutine and one cheeseburger. The food was tasty and fresh. The cheeseburger was larger than most “casse- croute” type burgers, and loaded with the toppings. The same goes for the hotdogs. The poutine was on the small side but good, and the cheese had a good squeak! Will definately return. Update June 2023, wife had the Hot Chicken Sandwich and I had the Hamburger Steak. Both were very good, the hamburger steak was amazing. The home made cole slaw is outstanding! Very pleasant waitress once again!
Best coffee ever!! I’m not kidding. Very well run and clean, and the food was delicious. Prices are very reasonable and the wait staff was friendly and welcoming. Would recommend as a great local gem!
Very nice staff, pretty clean place. Classic dinner experience. Good food, but can be polarizing i.e. using Miracle Whip instead of mayo in everything from club sandwiches to dipping fries. The BBQ sauce is a must if it's your first time, very tasty; fries are the same, awesome! All in all, if you're passing by, it's a worthwhile spot to eat, you won't regret it.
Nice vintage diner decor. Homey feel with lots of locals, and a majority of older folks on a Sunday. Food wise, our dishes were ok, but not memorable. Our fries were soft and cooked dark, the chicken was pretty bland and we found the gravy to be overly thick (ton of cornstarch?) with a pronounced flavour of spices (clove? Juniper?) that was overwhelming. We are not from the area and came based on the book Sur le Pouce. Overall I wouldn't recommend making a detour for a meal here.
Authentic dinner and snack!
Still the Best Club Sandwich in town.
Service and atmosphere ok... For cooking... Honestly??? Super disappointed! It s been a lot for 10 years! 2 club sandwiches, fries, coleslaw, brown sauce, mayo for $43. Its not the price that bothers me, its what we got for that price. The brown sauce really isnt good, the coleslaw is dry, and the worst, the club sandwich, the bacon, what am I saying??? A few flavorless bacon bits that look more like boogers, a thin leaf of iceberg lettuce softened by time, but the worst part is the generous portion of what they dare to call chicken which in reality makes us think more and taste like freshly thawed turkey passed through the blinder and still soaked in water. In short, you might as well remove the clubs from your menu as to not being able to make them about the meaning of the world. As for the disgusting brown sauce, I just hope that you dont go so far as to take this same sticky sauce for Hot Hamburgers or even worse for your poutines! Sorry to be so negative, but we were well served, the fries were good with the mayo. Although you have to eat them quickly if you dont like cold fries.
I ate a club sandwich at this restaurant, it was terrible! the turkey inside the club was like ground and tasted like water. The coleslaw was dry, no dressing. The BBQ style sauce was not edible. Phew! we mentioned our criticism to the second waitress, who was quick to shout without respecting our comment, she cut us off without letting us speak. This restaurant is bad and without respect for the comments in which we had the right to express our disappointment. I will never go back there again. This happened Tuesday 1 p.m. October 29, 2024.
Very good in general but the fry sauce is very bland
Great American style dinner. Excellent burger and fries. The fries are cooked in shortening, which makes fries less oily and greasy. Very good. Friendly staff and excellent service. Lots of customers at lunchtime.
Everything is perfect.... Cuisine, service, atmosphere, etc...
Ahhhh at Johnny s! So many memories! Everyone is so friendly! The food served is good. The CLUB is worth trying! Always a place worth visiting.
Jonny is losing feathers unfortunately. The club was just ok and we both had digestive issues. We should invest in product quality.
I loved eating at this restaurant! The food is good and the atmosphere is unique. I will come back for sure!
I had read that it was one of the best poutines in St Jérôme. Although the Italian sauce is not that bad, the regular sauce is more than ordinary. The service was very good. Fast and smiling :) Order: a cheeseburger, reg poutine, Italian poutine, bacon poutine. A and w.
Very ordinary, whether for a glass of water, mayo or sugar you always had to ask 2-3 times before getting it and I found the food very ordinary!
Its good!! Snack bar that has been around for several decades, poutines, fries, hamburgers and club sandwiches, my favorite of all the snack bars in the region
I went with my friends I waited 15min at the table to be served wow..... believe me I left I really dont know like before the world is in their bubble.....
The best club place!
I love this restaurant, Ive been going there for over 40 years
Atmosphere worth the detour, however the poutine sauce is too light. The sandwiches are good. Vegetarian options: Tomato sandwich, egg sandwich
Very old restaurant in St-Jerome where food is served at lunchtime with a traditional recipe and 1950s decor with banquette and counter with stool... very good white cake with delicious cream sugar...
Definitely the best poutine club! I highly recommend
Best club sandwich in the world
Very disappointed with the poutine Bland water sauce like bbq sauce McDonalds style cheese clearly not fresh! Paying $45 to make your heart ache, it seems like theres no other way to be heartbroken than to spend that amount!!!
I came to taste the famous poutine... well, ordinary. Soft fries in an ultra liquid sauce. Luckily the cheese was good.
Great, affordable. For a long time I didnt go back because I knew nothing to change. Everything is wow Thanks for everything xx
Very good experience in this restaurant. This 80s Dinner has preserved the atmosphere well. Very well eaten... Parking: A small parking lot and on the street
Nothing less than the best restaurant in the Laurentians..poutine club to try.. A real delight for the mouth.. Everything is good
Its edible! $73 for 3 poutine clubs. Never could.
Subscribe to me for more reviews. The Le johny snack bar is a real gastronomic treasure for hot dog and poutine lovers. Discreetly located on the corner of a busy street, this establishment captured my heart with its laid-back ambiance and comfort food. As soon as you walk through the door, you are greeted by the tempting smell of freshly cut fries and melting cheese on poutine. The interior of the snack bar is simple but warm, with tables topped with red and white checkered tablecloths, evoking an old-fashioned diner ambiance. The menu, displayed on wall slates, offers an impressive variety of creative hot dogs and generously garnished poutines. I opted for the Gourmet Hot Dog, topped with grilled sausage, caramelized onions, melted cheddar cheese and a secret house sauce. Each bite was a delicious mix of textures and flavors, with the sausage offering a slight resistance to the bite and the cheese melting deliciously in the mouth. As for the poutine, it was simply divine. The fries were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, perfectly coated with brown gravy and cheese curds that melted divinely. The generous portion ensured I savored every bite until the last fry. What makes Le johny even more special is the friendly and relaxed atmosphere that reigns there. The servers, although busy, took the time to chat with customers and recommend their favorite hot dog and poutine combinations. There was a real passion for comfort food and providing a memorable experience for every visitor. As I enjoyed my meal, I observed the constant coming and going of customers, all seeming as excited as I was to enjoy their favorite dish. It was a real pleasure to share this experience with other lovers of good food in such a welcoming atmosphere. In conclusion, Le johny is much more than just a snack bar: it is an essential destination for anyone looking to satisfy their desire for delicious comfort food. With inventive hot dogs and divinely prepared poutines, this establishment fully deserves its reputation as a favorite place for simple and authentic gourmet pleasures. --- I hope you like this review!
Ive been going to this restaurant since I was little, playing with my music fingers on the tables. Im 40 years old and Im still going there again.
Best fast food restaurant in Saint-Jérôme the classic tomato vermicelli soup, club sandwich and white sugar cream cake
Always pleasant as a couple or with friends, nostalgia guaranteed!
Good restaurant to eat with friends or family. Very nice welcome
Nothing extraordinary, the fries to be better. Not as good as a small potato place. The service very good Parking too small. Very nice waitress team. Parking: Awful
Poutine excellent!
Not the most cheerful staff! Luckily the food is good.
Nothing better to immerse yourself in nostalgia than a good meal at Johnnys
We always eat well, EVERYTHING IS GOOD, I like this place because we can take our time eating and chatting. The waitresses are very nice. Today I ate a hamburger steak Poutine YUMMM
Really disappointed poutine diluted with water
Good old fashioned potato
Good price but everything is cooked in bacon grease hard for the stomach
Its one of the best old school diners there is. Absolutely everything is good and the service is impecable and the food is just amazing. 100%
Sunday Mothers Day 2024 Very fatty fries all stuck in a package very disappointed
Ordinary food, ordinary service, extraordinary atmosphere. It s the place that attracts, it s a legendary place in St-Jérôme. An old dinner like they dont make anymore. Its definitely worth the detour.
This place is great, the food is good, the restaurant is super beautiful and always good service. The tomato vermicelli soup is the best! I go there every time Im in the area
Excellent lunch
Old style fast food. Real traditional fast food. Not McMarde or any other American chain fast food!
Everything is good
Family restaurant, fast service. The sauce still tastes the same as I remember. We dont change a winning recipe
Good service
I went to ask for poutine, it was my first time. The cheese was good, there was too much but tasteless The sauce clearly lacked flavor with a lot of gelatin or gelatin texture and was cold. Missed a lot of fries. And the poutine was just cold and poorly balanced. But what insulted me was that I went for my poutine and took it to bring it. To pay, they imposed tips on me, yet they didnt give me a drink and they served me what I paid for at the counter. On the way out I realized I didnt have a fork or napkins. (this may not be the case) but it seemed like a disservice because of the tips. However, I received my poutine at the counter. They snatched my fork and napkins through the little outside window. Sorry but I didnt have to tip because I was given no service. I will never return there again
Really nice staff. 5 star food.
Impeccable and inclusive service...perfect food and good old-fashioned fast food
Always in circumstance quality price all inclusive it is a MUST Parking: Around thirty places available
Pay .65 for 1 jam + forget it we will go more
Food as excellent as ever for years Friendly employee Beautiful vintage place
Poutine club for several years, even decades. Always perfect with a good price.
Always well received super fast service poutine to die for On the floor more specifically the chicken poutine the decor is adorable I highly recommend
A good diner style restaurant. The tomato and vermicelli soup is a must.
A very nice retro snack. Simple menu and quick service.
Excellent
Pea soup better than grandmas. And for poutine they are extremely generous with the cheese. Sauce on the side. Delicious club sandwich.
Yesterday I went to eat the disgusting poutine, the sticky sauce looked like dry hot dog slime.!!!! The only positive point is the fries are good
Very disappointed with the poutine sauce (bland and tasteless). Fries were good though. Very good service, welcoming people. Will not return
The best club ever!!!
I loved it!! Very affordable price and the fries are the best I have eaten!!
At peak times there are no counters available to take take-out orders.
Very good food and excellent service.
Very good potatoes in poutine! Tasty yellow potatoes and they put real cheese curds, all for an affordable price. There wasnt enough sauce for my liking, so next time Ill ask for extra ;) Ill definitely be back.
I was born in St-Jérôme and I am a huge Johnny fan. Because its so good! Johnny and I are for life.
Our lunch was very good. Good fries...go there, its worth it, for some food. THANKS
Lots and lots of cheese in the big poutine
Wheelchair accessibility: Il y a une rampe daccès pour fauteuil roulant. Food
This snack is an icon of StJérôme... the always courteous staff, the delicious food and generous portions! The jukeboxes from the period still sit at every table!
Hamburger steak was not hot enough Everything else was perfect I would go back Food : 4/5
Best club sandwich in town
Excellent service..magical atmosphere..great food. I liked my experience
Burger fries poutine and club excellent but really too small no space or parking
Everything was correct and I recommend it.
The food is good, but I have never seen so much obvious discrimination for someone of color in a restaurant. I would like to point out that it comes from the customers, the staff is less worse.
Legendary place in the area.
A real authentic diner type restaurant. We go back in time to the 50s and 60s, red leather stools and benches . Very complete menu. We had the club for two, very good (offered with brown bread if desired) and golden, crispy fries. Parking: Parking not very large, but possible on the street. But it is the main street and sometimes quite busy during rush hours,
We arrived at 11:40 a.m. No hello, we waited 15 minutes, no one came to take our order and we went elsewhere where the service and welcome was excellent.
Top of the best poutine in the Laurentians!!
Good quick stop if you are in a hurry. Simple menu, tasty food. Service was great and they really made an effort to please and understand our spanish/french.
Very good restaurant, courteous welcome, fast service, food always excellent and hot, generous cheese on poutine, excellent place for those nostalgic for the past. I definitely recommend.
Good lunch BRAVO
Very good poutine but the potatoes are often black and taste rotten. The rest is very good.
Authentic potatoes!
soup of the day: vermicelli and tomatoes; It tastes like our mothers soup, perfect to eat between two meetings!
Excellent service from the staff. Generous portions, delicious homemade fries. The staff is very nice and friendly.
Best club in the world. I still dont understand why.
Excellent thank you
First visit. Surprised and delighted. Staff from the first to the last welcoming, smiling and efficient. Our club sandwich: delicious .
Excellent as always!
The club sandwiches are good. For the poutine we will return, very disappointed sauce too liquid like water. This is a comment that comes up very, very often. This should be remedied, I think its not normal. Very good service at the tables on our side.
I have been using Johny for over 50 years, this little restaurant is a pleasure, everyone is very nice. The meals are delicious, I recommend this restaurant to all ordinary people who love life. Parking: Several places Kid-friendliness: Cabins for seating little ones
Its a good restaurant with good service. I recommend it to everyone.
Nice discovery :-)
What can we say about the classic Johnny in Saint-Jérôme! The best place for the classic Laurentian Fried Burger
Too good
Best place to eat if you re in St-Jerome. Portions are perfect. Prices are amazing. Staff is super friendly and helpful. If I could give 6 stars I would.
I highly recommend the club sandwich, the service is fast, the food is very good, very beautiful vintage decoration. The only inconvenience is parking and the seats are very short, you cant be two Kid-friendliness: For the declaration
Superb decor, very nice waitresses. Good food
Very good food and very good service
Best club sandwiches in town
The fresh fries are amazing.
Best fries in St-Jerome
Best poutine in the world
Stupid waitress, we have been elsewhere.
An institution in Saint-Jérôme. The meals are good especially their fries and hamburgers. Be careful though, the restaurant is very small as is the parking lot.
Restaurant Decorative years. Very interesting As a place Waitress Linda, very kind, presented and very attentive to our requests. Easy Access and Parking
50s style snack. Good quality and good service
The clubs are delicious Parking: At the back of the building
Very disappointed with what Johnny has become, supposed to be a lunch restaurant at all hours of the day. When ordering the waitress told me that she had no breakfast sausages, no smouthie but I ordered anyway and when she brought us the coffee, she told me that I would have fried potatoes on my lunch plate. So I decided to leave before even touching my coffee. In addition to not being able to offer me lunch like everywhere else, the person in charge demands that I pay for my coffee. The least we could have done was to apologize for the inconvenience. Not even!!!!! It was the last time. I dont recommend it at all.
The grilled cheese are very good but they didnt ask how I wanted my coffee Parking: Really small parking lot but was still able to park and get out properly. Just wished there was more space to deal with. Kid-friendliness: It was 100% kid friendliness the employee are acting towards them like if it was their own
Always great service.
Always pleasant.
Good place for fries...
Supremely delicious!
The service was good. I had a cheeseburger and a stale poutine. The cheeseburger was just passable, very ordinary. Poutine is a real joke. Super liquid sauce that tastes nothing. In the worst poutines Ive eaten in my life. I wont go back again.
Always good and pleasant to be there Childhood memory and we perpetuate the tradition!!
The best steak burgers in the world!!! For those who dont like sauce, thats your opinion!!! I find it excellent!!! The best Poutine too!!! And what about the succulent tomato and vermicelli soup!!!
Hey hey hey Johnny boy
Always well served and its super good
We eat very well
Fantastic place!
As hoped, great experience going back in time!!!
Classic Quebec diner, cheap and good fast food. Exactly what you are looking for.
Hoping that this restaurant remains a heritage that will not disappear ps: if the idea of having an experienced delivery person in order to leave a toner clientele in a very short period of time, I am more than up for it... (Business woman for over 30 years)
I didnt eat there, I cant comment on that. I ordered poutine and the person who made it put a little cheese on the bottom. Just that for me means that they put love. It is certain that the prices have increased, as they are restoring them except that there is a small touch that is not difficult to do and which changes everything. There was also a lot of cheese on top. I had the opportunity to make perfect bites: -cheeses -fried potatoes -cheese
Good quality meal
Excellent service, very good
Nice food, great vibes, classic diner style, full of locals, a bit challenging to order if you dont know French, but youll make do Parking: Just pull up in front and youll see they have a parking lot behind/around the diner
He loaded the potatoes... It doesnt taste like before
Hot dog + poutine, really very good! We will definitely come back!
Their fries and club sandwiches are excellent. I also recommend the galvaude poutine if you like peas
Retro style french fries. Same waitresses for several years and who always have a smile. Hot chicken for me one of the best! Parking: Sometimes when the restaurant is full, we have to park on the street.
My recent visit to Johnnys was a mix of contrasting dining experiences. Opting for a double poutine with two sausages, my palate was greeted by an exceptionally poor execution of this Quebec classic. However, the positive aspect lay in the unexpected generosity, because instead of the two sausages planned, around fifty pieces were graciously served to me. This gastronomic generosity, while salutary, was somewhat overshadowed by mixed interaction with the staff. The waitress, although competent in her performance, showed a touch of arrogance. The inequitable distribution of knives among the guests, where only one in three guests received one, created a moment of perplexity. The quest for the missing knife became a game of patience, adding an unexpected element to this culinary experience. Overall, the experience at Johnny cannot be described as horrible, but it lacked the finesse and attention to detail that one would expect from a quality establishment. Although the generosity tried to make up for the shortcomings, the waitresss slight arrogance left an unpleasant taste. An experience which, although not leaving an unpleasant memory, does not arouse the desire to return to rediscover the gastronomic pleasures of Johnny.
Excellent service Food does not change and constant. Retro style. Ive been going there for 45 years. Parking: Very large parking lot
A classic in St-Jérome.
Excellent hot dog poutine
Great restaurant, super nostalgic, you feel like youre coming home. The service is super good and it doesnt matter what time you go there. The food is comforting. The only downside is that when eating on site, the tables are narrow and cannot accommodate more than 4 adults.
The #1 fast food in the Laurentians. Everything is delicious, especially the sugar and cream cake.
Food was dry, unflavoured. I like the decor though. Food
Dessert...and everything else, but above all try dessert
Good old fashioned fast food. The food is good
Very good food and good service
Restaurant as good as ever! Especially its Club Sandwich!
