47 Princess St, Saint John, NB E2L 1K1, Canada
Creative housemade brews & casual eats round out the menu at this laid-back, unassuming brewpub.
We were on a cruise, and Saint John, NB, was port of call. We headed in for a quick drink and some appetizers. The establishment offers an option to pick a number of appetizers. Example pick 2 for $22, pick 3 for $34, etc. We went with a pick 3 and selected wings, Scotch Egg, and Chillie Maple Meatballs. We got 6 wings, but we requested sauce on the side since my wife and I couldn't decide on one. I believe if you pick one sauce, the wings are coated and NOT served plain like ours. The sauces had good taste and had a bit of sweetness. These were not what I could call a Buffalo hot wing with a butter base. The sauces were sweet and tangy. The Scotch Eggs were served, and we each got one egg. The hardboiled egg is wrapped in sausage, then coated in sessions and fried. The egg was cooked nicely, and the sausage had a little spice to it, but it was very good. This was my first time trying this dish, and I was quite pleased. The final selection was the Chili Maple BCon meatballs. This was my wife's favorite of the dishes. There was what seemed to be a beef/pork meat ball wrapped in bacon, then coated with Chili Maple sauce. I enjoyed dipping it into the hot sauce provided from the wings as well, but the presented sauce was very good. I also enjoyed the house amber ale. We talked with the staff and they were very accomadating. We also trained currencies, so we would have some Canadian currency as a souvenir. I would highly recommend this location for a few drinks, a bite to eat, and talk with the friendly staff.
Really kind service and great food, highly recommend the poutine
Logan was absolutely wonderful. My dad and I stopped in for a quick beverage and bite to eat. She was so genuine. Thank you for the great service!
Saint John's first proper craft brew pub. I've been coming here as a go-to for 6 years and I will never stop. Amazing beer, tremendous servers, and fantastic food. A Saint John treasure.
If you want a pub vibe this is your spot. The beer is traditional (think malt forward, sweeter and no hop bombs, not my vibe but if you like that style you’ll love it). Fish and chips was good, not amazing but satisfying none the less. Our server was great and fast. Not my style but if you align with the style you’ll love it. But my wife said it was too dark.
we waited for long time for a breakfast burrito and latter we found out that they charged us more than 90 dollars for a burrito and a beer. I tried to call and nobody picked up the phone. it is ridiculous to think we will pay 100 canadian dollars tips after such long waiting time. We were in hurry to catch a ferry and def. feel the restaurant took advantage on us. I will never come back to this place.
Found this place on google maps and trusted the reviews. Hopefully you will trust mine. This was a great stop for lunch and the beers were incredible. We had poutine and pirogies.
Visited Big Tide Brewing for lunch today. This place was great! The fish and chips were delicious, the spicy fries were filling, and the dill pickle soup was intriguing. I also liked my beer (Wild Weed Summer Ale). Our server was super nice as well.
Attended with a large group and a few said their food wasnt very good. Nachos are definitely dry and tasteless.
#ContestEntry quick and easy spot for lunch, great pub atmosphere
Great selection of beer and food with friendly staff.
We had a really good experience eating there. Great service and good food
Good food, good beer, good service. Support your local breweries folks!
If you like Jambalaya...... go there. Also
Excellent hidden gem. Kid friendly. Worth the hike up the hill. Buy some apps with your beer. The meatballs and pierogis are everything!
The fish and chips are good, big potion, but the beer is really good. Very good service, friendly and fast.
Very relaxed and comfortable environment, welcoming to families and social parties. Amazing service and delicious food the best Ive had in saint john so far!! The staff are very kind, accomadating and helpful and assure you have a wonderful and comfortable visit.
Always a great crowd, drinks are a great price as well. Friendly staff, thanks for keeping my cup full Ron! We always make a point to pop in while in the city of St.John.
Stopped in on our way through Saint John; was seated and served by Logan, she was great! The fish and chips were especially good (breaded style), good size portions as well. Tried the local made Kolche beer and was quite happy with it. Logan was pleasant and engaging, made us feel truly welcomed. Would recommend!
Loved their beers and super friendly atmosphere, especially the chocolate stout. It counts as dessert.
Good beer and good service. Only had the nachos and they were not bad.
This place was really good and food was really delicious. Our Server Jema was so helpful and provided the best service. I can recommend this place to anyone and will visit again.
We visited Bigtide twice during our 3 days in Saint John. The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was inviting and relaxing. Their blueberry ale was delicious! We had an early supper today, I had the naanwich, and my husband had the clams. Both were delicious, and we will certainly be back any time we are in Saint John!
Had the Burger Week special. It was a little dry. The brown molasses bun was dry. Would have been better with a regular bun. My colleagues felt the same. Filling. Service was good.
The food was awesome, and it was a great service
Great place to connect with pals or try Atlantic canada beers
Super!
We had the Pretzel & Mustard to start then Chicken Curry Penne & Fish & Chips. Jessie our server was fun, quick made our visit great. The Food came very quickly and was excellent! A great experience all around.
Cool space with a nice beer list, including local ciders. We had a few apps and the food was fine, but we came for the beers and left happy.
Great little place to go for food, fun and great service. Had a wonderful time there this evening, the owner was wonderful bringing our food and hot sauces as well as explaining about where they come from. Youve got to try the maple glazed bacon wrapped meat balls!
Solid place! Good beers and decent food. Nice place to stop and recharge while taking in the city.
Amazing beer!! Tried every beer on tap (6 batches) and had to buy 14 cans (4 batches) on the way out. The anniversary Amber was the best I ve tried out east across quite a few breweries. All the other beers were also great. The owner Chris shared some history with us and we had a fantastic time there. Service was excellent. Prices were very fair and I wish I could have bought more cans but I was parked a mile away. Thanks for everything! I hope to stop by again on the next road trip :) Vegetarian options: Fried pickles were great! Kid-friendliness: The owner was extremely kind and attentive to our kids and even gave them free snacks :)
Super endroit!
Excellent service and great food! I love the atmosphere. The Peach Bellini IPA is one of the best beers Ive had!
We got a chance to try this place out and it was amazing. Servers were so nice and made sure we didnt need anything. The beers are great and at a reasonable price.
Visited on a quiet night, so not really sure how the place is on busy days. Food was okay (me) and good (partner). Staff was friendly. I wasnt sold on the beers, but thats a matter of taste (and of when the visit took place): there werent any IPAs or APAs, ended up having a red, which was okay but thats outside my usuals. My partner had a sour which was quite good. I was very surprised to see some Bud Lights in a fridge, sort of weird in a micro.
Really good experience, clams were to perfection and Scallop carbonara was put of this world.
A brewery with great IPA and customer service. Very attentive waiters and good service.
Great place to eat lunch and drink a beer. The staff is super friendly I recommend
Drink beer, dont bother with the food. Overpriced and low on quality
Ill tell ya, thats a darn interesting poutine. We didnt know what to think of it until we marinated on it for awhile and decided it was pretty unique and great. Beer is pretty good too.
Friendly very very good food...love it
Went to get lunch with some family members from out of town. Was informed that not one thing on their menu is vegan. I wasnt even looking for a full meal, I would have been happy with just french fries. But even that wasnt even acceptable.
An absolute MUST
I love this place. Great food quality and deliciously inventive combinations that arent too fussy mean I will come back again and again. I had the scallop risotto with their Save The Bees cocktail, and my friend got the Poutine Week option they were offering (Southwest Popcorn Chicken Poutine ). Everything was amazing! Thank you for consistent awesomeness
Awesome food, awesome friendly staff, try there own speciality brewed beers
Delicious food and my drinks were less expensive than I expected. Overall, really pleased.
Such a staple! Great spot for well priced pub food and brunch! Staff are so friendly, they also have trivia on wednesdays!!
Great place to stop in for a great meal and an even better local beer. An original brewpub in the heart of uptown Saint John this stop is a must for any beer lover.
Saint Johns only brewery and pub. The beer selection varies depending on the season and available crafting supplies, but you can always find a nice ale and bitter on tap. The staff are wonderful and pleasant and often engage in conversation if they are not too busy, which does happen, just be patient. with them. Located in the heart of downtown Saint John, they are within walking distance of most other city attractions.
Very cozy environment. Good beer, good food, good people.
Great service! Good food!
Great beer! Laid back atmosphere, lots of seating and many, many fantastic food options for everyone. Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable about the products.
Nice place with some vegan and gluten-free options (burger, chili, quesadillas, ...). The black bean burger with fries was very good Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free options
This could easily be named Cheers. What a great neighborhood pub and brewery. During the Moon to Mars festival it was a hopping crazy place. But we ll. Worth the visit! Thanks Chris.
Great beer. Friendly place.
The beer was great, and fresh. I had an Irish Red Ale and my dining companion had a stout. The beer was very delicious and had a good head and flavour. The nachos were about a 6/10. Perhaps a few more minutes under the salamander to get the cheese crisped up. Chips were corn and thicker which is good because it helps them stand up rather than get really mushy. Big points there. I got this pub recommended to me as one of the best burgers in SJ. I had the bigger tide burger with bacon and cheese. It also comes with sauteed mushrooms which I opted against. Pros: hand formed, fair size portion, fresh veggies, and the pickle was good. The tomatoes were fresh though lacking a tiny bit of salt to release their flavour. The lettuce was julienne which really makes the presentation on the bun which was served open faced. The cheese was good and the bacon was flavourful. Cons: it seems they handle the beef for a long time while forming the burgers. Therefore the beef was far too firm and compacted in texture. Loose beef allows for juices to remain, this was very tightly packed like extremely processed foods which is a shame for in house food. It also felt like they didnt pat the meat dry before cooking meaning there was steam introduced reducing the maillard reaction for beautiful crispy browning. The bun seemed to also have been pressed to a thin crepe rather than the fluffy luxurious one it likely started out as. Finally although seasoned well they seem to have put oregano in the mix which detracts from the beefiness of the hand formed patty when a nice sea salt and pepper open would really allow the beef to speak for itself. Im also confounded that restaurants seem to continue to choose the Costco style egg wash french fries when we have access to beautiful New Brunswick dark russet potatoes grown right here in our province. Please Ill pay an extra $1 for the labour if you cut and prep potatoes to make fresh fries. I post this with the extreme hope that they take on the challenge to be the best burger in Saint John as they have a fantastic location, delicious beer and a friendly staff. My search for the best burger in SJ continues. P.S. my concerns were heard by my server who took my feedback seriously and was professional in his demeanor.
The pumpkin ale on tap was delicious special touch with the cinnamon sugar spice rim!
Excellent craft beer. Good menu sélection at a reasonable price.
This one of our favorite brewpubs. We had the fried clams and deepfried pepperoni (both off-menu) which are amazing.
Amazing happy hour deal!
The beer, the service everything was perfect!! Thanks to the whole team!
Flight of 6 beers. Nothing amazing. Good pub food except for the old soggy pitas
decent pub menu, service stunk , girl didnt seem to care too much about me as a customer. beer was meh considered price higher than other places in the area
Stopped in for some fish and chips and a mango milkshake IPA. Food was tasty and came out quickly, and the beer was cold and delicious. Excellent service from Kaylee as well!
Food was great, good music, friendly staff and located in a beautiful old building with a nice view of other cool looking buildings.
Went there for lunch, great service, quick and delicious food and beer !
Great place and and great variety of. Beer.
The El Dorado Pale Ale is excellent! THANKS!!
Food was pretty good.
Nice varied menu. The beers are excellent. The plates are huge.
Awsome beers !
The food was good, the service was really really great, the waiter called a grocery store for us cause were from Québec and we wanted something specific. I truly appreciated, its was a kind gesture. I recommanded.
This place rocks. The owner is a true gem.
A wonderful selection of both very creative and very reliable beer varieties, with flight options! The space is open and comfortable, the staff welcoming, and they offer fun revelry on Saint Patricks Day.
Friendly staff, great beer in a old city center
The ultimate neighbourhood brewpub. Friendly faces and a constantly changing tap selection of fun and delicious brews. Lots to pick from in their to-go fridge for your picnic or COVID circuit breaker as well.
Im not sure if they still serve this here but I once got their curry and could literally feel the powder in my mouth felt like eating sand, Havent been back since. Only redeeming factor of the night was the beer, which was very good, but the food was the worst experience Ive ever had.
My favorite brewpub, Great food and beer and fast service. A++ BigTide Burger
Average food with below average service
Good tap house with plenty of deliciously filling food options to accompany their delicious beers. Friendly staff and cozy environment helps make the experience enjoyable.
Love Bigtide always a great time and great food!
Great beer, exceptionally friendly service.
Fantastic food ill be coming back for sure
For my initial visit I am very impressed. We will certainly be back!
Best pub food in saint john , and best beer
Great place serving locally brewed beer and great food for a good price. Would definitely recommend and will be returning soon.
Who doesn t love a brew pub and Big Tide Brewing is the one and only in Saint John. Along with all the fine Beers they make on site, they also have a very tasty menu. My dinner there was certainly impressive. I started off with a French Onion soup and finished with the Italian Meatball Burger. A few of the folks I know from Saint John call this their favourite everyday restaurant and I can see why. That was a very delicious burger, it certainly left me feeling happy and full.
Great spot for a drink, amazing music., great staff and clients
Great Beer, the food was also very tasty. We had the naan sandwich. The fries were the perfect level of crisp. Service was also good and growlers were reasonable.
The fish and chips was deeeelicious. Quite possibly the best fries Ive ever had. Very laid back atmosphere. The beer is super good. And the server was very courteous and prompt. A++
We tried 4 appetizers (Pierogis, PEI Mussels, Scotch Egg, Seafood Chowder)and 4 beers. All were great, service was friendly and efficient. Would recommend and return if in the area again.
Bigtide, more like bigmoist. It was so humid in their, I could only laugh as I watched the sweat drop off of my partners face. No greeting, no service, def. Not returning. I hope this place is a parking lot the next time I drive by.
Will never go back. My husband ordered a burger and pop and side of wings and I got a one piece fish and chips and water and we waited an hour for our food and then were charged $85. Service was disappointing when they didnt even smile when we came in and sat us at a dirty table and then forgot to put in our order. Disappointed.
Good variety of beer and food
Good service and the beer was really good.
Mussels, pickle soup, and a chicken wrap with a great brew. Good variety of brews are offered along with food.
The food was good. The beer was good the place was cold
Good experiences here. Good choices for lactose free and low gluten good. Ask the waiter / waitress whats gluten free rather then relying on the menu which lists gluten friendly which is not appropriate for everyone.
Beer is good and 5 on tap available. Pricing was fine too.
Great beer, polite and knowledgeable staff. Get down and try it!
We enjoyed the meals. Service was good
Nice bright location uptown. Nice spot for lunch.
Sweet staff, deadly beer, yummy grub.
Good food, nice atmosphere and good staff.
Great place to hang with friends
Good micro brews and weekly trivia nights.
This place is fantastic! Great beer at reasonable prices! I would highly recommend!!
Great food. Great beer
The beer was good but thats about as good as it gets. The service was incredibly slow despite there being only 4 tables in the place. After almost 10 minutes to get our drinks, we waited over 35 minutes to get our food (just fish and fries). Once we did get our food, all the fish was overcooked and incredibly dry. Good thing the waitress never asked us how our food was! Though she did remember after 15 minutes that we asked for malt vinegar (which came in a dip cup, apparently not a standard condiment at THIS British-style pub). Needless to say this was a very disappointing experience for the family we had visiting from out of province.
This bar is Saint John s best kept secret. Amazing beer, amazing bar menu and the best waitresses/bartenders in town. Go here and get one of their house-made beers!
This is such a good restaurant!
The beer is below average so as interior.
We went there as a group. Food we ordered was great. We were happy with the service, too. If you go there try the black beer. It was the best black beer I have tasted in Canada. It had this a bit of chocolaty flavor in it.
Any beers, same service, the food is ok, nothing more...
I regularly visit big tide and am heartbroken to find out that my favourite server has had to quit as she s not allowed her small tattoos on display. I m really upset to find this out as a tattoo doesn t impact on great customer service. This is such a shame for the restaurant as its best server has now gone after she worked there for such a long time and always made my visits enjoyable.
Huge portions, delicious beer. Good bang for your buck!
Delicious craft beer, amazing food
Good beer, friendly great service!!
Delicious food, and fun atmosphere.
Excellent IPA
Wasnt an unforgettable memory. Decent beer. Correct service, nothing more. There are better micro-breweries elsewhere in NB.
Good beer, great food!
Good beer, tasty food.
Ate here with family of five. Service and food was fantastic. Prices were fair with large portions. Great pub atmosphere.
Great food and service
Very nice atmosphere. Good food. Friendly service. Great beer selection.
Great service, great beer, great food
Great food and service, will definitely be back.
Great pub and beer. Food was good, staff friendly..I will miss it! Cheers!
Casual and friendly. Great food and beer.
After doing the Uncorked city tour where we where met by Thomas from Big tide brewing giving a great presentation with his knowledge of beer. Went back for dinner. Great food great beer. Great staff!
Friendly, great beer.
Excellent beer brewery restaurant
Good food and Good beer! Friendly Service
Good service, the food is typical for this type of establishment and the craft beer is superb.
Nice old style pub feel, but the food was terrible.
Good beer selection, nothing that blew me away. Definitely worth a stop if youre in town.
Good food. Good beer.
I loved this place! Cute little pub with great service. The pretzels were AMAZING. Possibly best Ive ever had.
One of the only places open on a Sunday! Good times were had by my friend and I. Food was delicious. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the pretzels. Omg. The best ever :)
Great place for a beer and burger. Big Tide burger is fantastic and their beers are great. Well priced too!
We were very pleased with our visits to Big Tide. The food was great, as was the home brewed beer! I would suggest the Benedict Arnold ES Bitter! Definitely worth a stop if you are in Saint John. Miami/Syracuse
Great brew, friendly staff, good food.
Amazing staff and friendly service.
Great beer, delicious pub fare and nice community room for hosting events or parties.
Stop in Saint John on a cruise in Canada/New England. After our excursion, we found this place and stopped in for a drink. Nice atmosphere, beers were good, and so was the poutine. Would have bought a shirt, but wanted one with just the brewery logo.
Excellent food and service!
Great breakfast and great service at Big Tide. Good, basic, reliable food within true pub atmosphere!
