60 Prince William St, Saint John, NB E2L 2B1, Canada
French-style, maritime fare is emphasized at this charming upscale bistro with exposed-brick walls.
This was my first visit, definitely not my last. The vibe inside was seemingly business casual is the way I’ll describe it. Not super formal, but the candles on the table were well above casual. The menu presentation seemed a contradiction, fine dining prices, displayed on paper printed in brochure format. The table setting was beautiful, with excellent flatware tucked into a linen napkin, and quality glassware. Incredible food. Fantastic service. Best meal and service in years. Truly one of New Brunswick’s best restaurants. I’ll return to take photos, but the presentation was top notch.
I went to East Coast Bistro December 14, 2024 to start the server was unbelievable rude to everyone at our table and that was a party of 7 took her 15-20 minutes to even come to our table then another 20 or so minutes to come take our food order didn’t recheck once if we wanted another drink, the drinks were average at best. The food was unappetizing. Didn’t try the dessert as the experience was already horrible. I will not be back and the server came up to a girl at our table and told her to double check to make sure she had the right jacket when she told the server she did she’s like well look again. This was unbelievable the worst place I’ve been to in the city.
Great staff, great meal, good value. Was there during Chop Chop.
We had dinner last night here and the food was truly amazing! We came in at happy hour which is a great deal for wine for sure at 25% off 5 oz pours. We had the scallop and polenta dish and the beef cheeks with risotto mac and cheese. Both of our dishes were outstanding! Then we had the lemon tart with berries and sorbet…excellent! Our server, whose name I did not get, was so kind, personable and funny to boot (she is a cute redhead), she made us feel so at home.
So very unassuming yet definitely a place worthy if you’re looking for an elevated dining experience. Absolutely loved the seared scallop entree, has become my favorite preparation ever, served on a sizable portion of pasta in a simple yet balanced and tasty preserved lemon, caper sauce. Also enjoyed the vegetable soup with mushrooms and barley which was that day’s soup. Husband ate the pan seared tuna special and it was also delicious as was the mushroom toast. Mouth is watering remembering this meal from just a few days ago. This is a must-try place if visiting St. John.
Very good food and very friendly staff. We will return if we happen to be in Saint John again.
Superb food and service. Restaurant is managed smoothly and efficiently. Guests can actually have quiet conversations, even with a full house. Excellent evening.
The staff are great. Some great daily specials and both the service and the food are consistently excellent. The Brisket Frites was amazing. No knife required and such a beautiful jus.
Food was 5 star Service was 5 star .thanks Molly!! We will be back often To update Daughters bday take out extremely underwhelming and lacking flavour. Reached out to management at the time and they did apologize, but really did feel like they cared at all Won t be back
Mushroom toast with an egg on top FOREVER
EBC is a must try! Great local menu items - always a wonderful experience eating here #ContestEntry
Great job nice service very caution had a great time
Incredible!
Delicious food and wonderful service!
Food is fabulous, the music is great (and it s not blasting!) and lovely people work here.
Great food and great service. Steak frites, salad, soup all excellent!
My wife and another couple went to East Coast Bistro for dinner. Really enjoyed our evening. Food was fantastic. Waitress great. Atmosphere nice. Quiet setting.
Really unusual dishes. Delicious. Congratulations Vegetarian options: Veggie burger that my husband loved.
It was a great restaurant. Better to reserve in advance. They have lunch menu. They close the kitchen at 8pm (on week days at least). Does not have parking but has street easy entrance. Service was very dood an dessert was gluten free.
Ordered fish and chips. The chips are limp and not hot. The fish consists mostly of breading and its not even completely cooked through. Its a shame, because the reviews were quite good. Im not coming back.
Was our first time eating here, we had the specials, rack of lamb and swordfish and for dessert crème brûlée and sticky toffee pudding. Portion sizes were generous, our server was lovely and the food was exceptional!! The only feedback I have is to change the dining chairs, they re very outdated and look like they came out of a hotel. Not a biggie, the food and service couldn t be faulted
If you appreciate excellent food with great service this is the place. Scallops prepared perfectly!
I had the brisket and my girlfriend the veggie burger. Brisket was fantastic, but if I could note it could use a bit more seasoning or even just salt; but that could just be my preference. Also the coleslaw could have used more dressing as it was the only thing breaking up the grease and fat from the brisket and fries on the dish. The girlfriends veggie burger was great. Nice to see a fresh take on a mushroom burger. Service was good with no complaints. Atmosphere is good as well, quiet place to have a nicer meal. We also tried the chocolate bete noir. All-in-all a fair price for these days, especially given with higher tier cooking. Definitely a place to enjoy again. Only 4 stars due to the inbalance in my plate. Definitely even a small side of veggies and the coleslaw having more dressing would have made a huge difference. The plate is too rich for just fries, even for a fatty like me.
Wonderful service. Great food always a pleasure to be there
The food was delicious. We went for lunch and enjoyed some smoked salmon with a lot of fresh herbs and flavor. We paired it with a glass of wine and then enjoyed coffee and the toffee cake with ice cream, which was delicious. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The seating was cozy. The tinted glass prevented too much sun as we could overlook the harbor. The various artworks on the wall were interesting to look at.
Great service as soon as you walk in to when you are done. Food was definitely 5 star. Worth going! Wheelchair accessibility: Non existent
I always make sure to stop at East Coast Bistro when in Saint John. Always my best meal with Italian by night always a close second.
Had a wonderful meal with friends. We enjoyed the Salt Roasted Beets, Smoked Salmon, ECB Burger, Duck Confit and the Seared Scallops. The food and company were so wonderful we didnt get any photos.
Wow. Great place to eat
The service is always great and the food is amazing. Best place in town for a meal in my opinion.
Their valentines day menu was amazing
Home from Montreal and had an incredible meal. Highly recommend! Ambiance, service, presentation and an innovative menu are all beautifully executed. I think I m in a sticky toffee pudding coma which is never a bad thing.
Nice restaurant with good variety. Great flavor combos and good portion sizes all with a plesant atmosphere.
For a perfect night out as a couple this was the right choice. We lucked out getting at 8oclock reservation (especially as people who eat fairly late) was worried we would have to be eating dinner at an ungodly. Anyways the food was was absolutely fantastic. Ill post some pictures of our appetizer and mains. Literally cant say a single bad thing about this spot. 10/10 go for it if you are trying to decide on a new place to try! Service was wonderful and friendly, yeah just go.
Sorry, hard pass. The food portions were small, the meat (both duck confit and lamb leg) were on the dry side, and it just wasnt that flavourful. At these (expensive) prices and (small) portion sizes, I expect every bite to be bursting with flavour, or at least something I can savour and say damn thats good!. Unfortunately there just wasnt much to call home about, wasnt like wow! just ok thats alright I guess.. Barely any sauce, and overall lack of flavour. I wanted to like it but it just didnt meet the value they price it at.
Stopped in last minute and was lucky to get a table. Absolutely delicious food. Top notch presentation. Ordered the specials, and it was a great decision. Steak and halibut cooked perfectly! Food
We love this place.
Great food (dont skip dessert!), drinks, and service. Clean and welcoming atmosphere. Vegetarian options: My table had parisian gnocci, sourdough bread, smoked rigatoni vegetable pasta, and vegan mushroom walnut veggie burger with crispy fries. All delicious.
We ate there recently and were very disappointed. The food was overpriced, portions were minimal at best and lacking flavor. I had the back-bacon with scallops with my husband having the pasta dish. Both portions were very small considering the price. Pasta noodles are inexpensive - a decent size portion should be expected. We both left the restaurant hungry - that should never be the case. The waitress was lovely and the service was prompt. Overall poor experience though.
Gteat food and service.
This is a delightful little bistro, with a warm atmosphere. Delicious offerings on a trendy menu. We had the mussels, and the brisket, both generous and delicious. But especially good was the dessert: the chocolate bête noire. It was heavenly!
Plain and simple...Excellent!
Excellent food. We shared the mushroom toast (awesome), my wife loved the pistachio dukkah crusted salmon and I took the hot honey roasted duck breast (perfectly cooked). The service was also very good!
My husband and I celebrated my birthday here last month and we had a great dinner. We ordered mussels, lamb and pasta. All the dishes were excellent! The sticky toffee dessert was delicious. This was our third time here through the years when we visit Saint John, NB.
Best restaurant in Saint John. Fresh, creative, local. Try their soup. 10 out of 10.
Some of the best food weve had since being in Canada. The service was wonderful, made me lemonade off menu. The food was fantastic the brisket was like meat candy. Not touristy at all.
The best pasta Ive ever had. Faith, my waitress, did an amazing job at pairing the perfect wine with my main and my dessert. She also recommended the dessert, which did not disappoint. I dont even like dessert and this had me drooling. Prompt and professional service. Nice atmosphere. I cant say enough great things about this place. Cant wait to go back. I literally could have cried my French onion pasta was THAT good. Thank you!
If you want Michelin star quality food at a reasonable price, this is the place to try. I had the fried chicken with risotto, and it was amazing. I will definitely be going again and trying something new.
The food was good but thats it. The decor was depressing, and the waitresses were very arrogant. This is not at all something Id ever try again. Good food is important, but there are five senses and how you make people feel matters too. Wont be back.
Hidden gem! Incredible food and great service!
Great atmosphere, very friendly staff, delicious food. Well be back for sure.
Fantastic Lunch Special - Cod, pesto, delicately fried potatoes.
The duck was amazing!
Unfortunately had a negative experience here: my partner and I came for dinner today with reservations. She has dietary restrictions (cant eat onions or garlic) and we spoke with our waiter about this; he confirmed that the risotto in the scallop dish had garlic, but they would be able to make the seared scallops with the salad instead. We were pretty disappointed when her dish came with garlic topping the scallops. Unfortunately, this isnt even the first time this happened, as she had come here on a separate occasion a few months prior and received a dish with the onions left on (after the waiter confirmed it could be removed). In both situations the waiters were kind and accommodating when ordering, but this just didnt translate to the food received.
Ive eaten at East Coast Bistro a number of times and each time was better than the last! Every aspect of the restaurant from the food, to the service is excellent. The menu is well balanced with a good rotation of new and staple dishes with also very appealing specials. The staff, both from and back and front of house are absolutely fantastic. Proteins are beautifully cooked and all the dishes have an excellent balance of flavours. The front of house staff is also very attentive, kind, and truly go above and beyond. I wouldnt be hard pressed to say that East Coast Bistro is one of, if not, the best restaurant in Saint John!
Fantastic restaurant in the heart of our city! Our table couldn t get enough of their wicked Lemon Pie drink and the flavours in the food were unbelievable. Two had the duck and the rest had a beef special: both meals presented beautifully and were cooked to perfection. Our server Rob was friendly, just the right amount of attentive and the definition of service with a smile. A must visit if from Saint John or visiting the city!
I ate here during the ATU Canada Conference in July 2022 and was blown away (just like the other 9 people I invited). The food was amazing and some of the best Ive ever tried; especially the brisket. The servers were attentive & friendly; the ambience was also great. Everyone was talking about that spectacular meal for the rest of the conference and everything else we tried fell short. If I ever find myself near St John again this will be my first stop.
Delicious Burger!
We were there for lunch and had the mussels and the lunch dish of the day with salmon. Both were very good, the service was very friendly and attentive. The prices are rather higher, but the price-performance ratio is good. They have a small but varied menu.
Just spectacular food.. Always worth seeing what they have on the menu!
Excellent foods and service. Highly recommend
Food was tasty. Service was great. Portions were large and filling. The scallops were a very good appetizer. Lots of great flavors. Done really well. The Brisket & Frittes was flavorful and a big plate of food. The salmon was good. And the drinks were great as well. Definitely would try again.
First time we were there was last night! We all agreed it was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had! The food was beyond delicious, the drinks, the service, the whole atmosphere was incredible! If you want an upscale dining experience in Saint John, look no further...
East Coast Bistro was the perfect place. Food was delicious, the staff interacted with our son who is 21 months which he loved and, the atmosphere was relaxing.
Great atmosphere, good service. Food was good but not for the price charged.
11/10 for East Coast Bistro. I had the rack of lamb special which was quite literally the best piece if lamb I have ever had. The sides perfectly balanced the lamb and created a very balanced dish! The wife had the Scallops and Casarecce Pasta and the scallops were cooked to perfection. We went for our anniversary dinner and will definitely be back. It is a great date night location for anyone looking for that perfect intimite location!
Fantastic service and food. Cant wait to go again.
Great Food and service
Excellent
Terrific service , atmosphere and great food
Excellent food and service!
It only took a take out container that was very little fries and meat then also a server to be very very rude on pick up for me to post this prices to much for small services not good at all
Excellent Service. We had the veggie burger, mussels & gnocchi = all delicious. Lovely venue.
First time diners, excellent food, excellent service. Only downside for us was the noise music...softer jazz would be nice.
I ordered a tiramisu for my wife s birthday because it is her favourite. The cake these folks made for us was not only beautiful and reasonably priced, it was delicious! This is coming from a guy who thinks tiramisu is a garbage cake. I even had a second slice! 10/10 would buy again!
Excellent service and food. Love this restaurant and staff
Great food and fantastic experience.
Amazing food and a beer selection that gives pairing options. Great atmosphere. Make reservations.
Really great customer service excellence staff this years an awesome facility the place is extremely clean the prices are really good at attractive very trendy crowd me and my friends really enjoyed coming here for a quick bite and its such a great environment cant wait to come back again soon these guys stuff with disserving 5 star review I highly recommend anybody looking for a good spot to have a bite or just relax to checkout East Coast Bistro thanks for everything guys really appreciate it
My husband and I had dinner here last week and had a wonderful experience! The food was phenomenal! We had the house made barbecued brisket and the seared scallop dish and shared both. The food was cooked to perfection and the presentation was beautiful. Service was extremely efficient and our waitress, Emily, kept an eye on us and was there if we needed anything. I am giving this a 4 star review only because of the stemware available for a glass of wine consists of stemless glasses. These are too large for me to hold comfortably without dropping and my husband has nerve damage to his hand which makes it impossible to hold these types of glasses. Our server came to our rescue with glasses that we could hold (brandy snifters!) without spilling a drop :) We will be back!
Meal was fantastic
One of my favorite restaurants in Saint John. Ive never left this place disappointed. Always great service, amazing meals and fairly priced for the great quality. The mirrored glass in the dining room is great for people watching while dining. Love this place.
Great seafood
A great dining experience! The special entrees are always interesting and with wonderful tastes. The ECB salad is a must have every visit. Staff are friendly and provide great service. I consider ECB my Saint John go-to restaurant for a dining experience.
The food is so delicious and the staff so friendly and professional.
East coast Bistro is on the more expensive side however its definitely worth it. Their fries are house made and taste amazing! Id also recommend the bête noir if you love chocolatey desserts. Pictured below is the Catch of the Day (which happened to be scallops,) and the Bête Noir.
The waitress was pleasant. I ordered a plain burger and fries, the fries tasted like dirt, like they werent washed. The burger was so full of onion I couldnt taste the beef and it was so greasy the toasted bun was soggy. Will never sit that long and pay that much for another meal. Bad representation of East coast food. 20 min to order, 45min to food I couldnt eat.
Ask anyone in Saint John where to eat and the first place they come up with is East Coast Bistro. Chef/Owners Tim Muehlerbauer and Kim Steele have created a destination restaurant that every foodie in town eats at when they want a great meal. The menu is hyper local and seasonal, the staff are friendly and prompt, and best of all the food is superb. During my stay in Saint John my birthday came and went. Where did I book a reservation for dinner? East Coast Bistro of course, and I wasn t disappointed. The meal started with a half dozen Oysters, then a Purple Cabbage and Peanut Salad, followed by my main course of Steak & Frites. Perfection. Dinner ended with a surprise Birthday cake made by the Chefs. It was mine, all mine!
Awesome food great service and nice atmosphere
We had a great meal with friends, having made a reservation in advance. This year I discovered a new cocktail - P.Y.T. which stands for Pretty Young Thing when I asked about it - using Elderflower liquor - loved it so much I had two. We shared the appetizer which consisted of roasted mushrooms, pickled rhubarb, onion, pate, toasties - the only comment I would have about the presentation is that perhaps the mushrooms could be served in a shallow dish instead of a jar, which made it abit difficult to extract. The entrees were very good as were the desserts. Friendly service, busy place. This restaurant has a back area where a large group could easily enjoy a nice meal. I was able to thank the chefs for a lovely meal since they look onto the restaurant. We have been here many times and will come back again and again and again.
Best in town
Fabulous food with original ideas. Beautiful presentation, and staff were helpful. We were a big group of 16 in the private space at the back of the restaurant and service was a bit slow for the main course. I had the special pasta of the day, a ravioli stuffed with a cheese mixture and served in a saffron cream sauce with 2 jumbo prawns. It sounded wonderful by description (there were other flavours mentioned but I couldnt hear the server over the noise) and but it arrived lukewarm, was a very small portion compared to the other diners meals (left me hungry) and rather bland and tasteless. Other diners food came out steaming hot. Mains arrived slowly so food got even colder by the time we all had them. Thats my only complaint; the rest of the dishes, appetizers (seared scallops) and desserts (vanilla brulee) were amazing.
Amazing food and excellent service! What more can you ask for!!
Had an amazing dinner at this cute restaurant, ordered duck, and oysters, definitely recommend this place to everyone!
Quiet, clean, nice ambiance and the food was incredible. Staff were nice, made me a really nice mocktail when I asked. Steak was perfect, the pickle, cheese starter was more than we could have expected
The food is the best in the city. The service is outstanding.
Great food and great atmosphere
Great food with great service. Had the freshest scallops that belt in your mouth and the best prepared mussels. Wish I could go back every day!
Excellent food
The bouillabaisse was out of this world!
Amazing food, almost didn t eat it because it presented so well!
Came here for a weekend brunch and was not disappointed. Very delicious food and a nice variety. Great for a special occasion!
Our dinner was a perfect gastronomic experience. The decor of this small, cozy restaurant was uncluttered modern. All five dishes we ordered were visually pleasing and a perfect blend of flavors and textures. Appetizer included mushroom toast and kale/pear salad, entrees were the halibut special and chicken fricassee, and we forced ourselves to make room for the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. This was definitely was a Michelin star-quality meal.
Food was bomb, had the haddock soup was delicious made up for the mediocre service. Definitely be back though.
Wonderful place to eat. Might be a little expensive for some, but the quality is worth it.
Each dish I have tasted here has been delectable and unique.
Great food and service.
Never disappointed. Amazing food every time. Plant based options available.
Absolutely splendid. Dined on Cornish hen, steak frites, cream brule, sticky toffee pudding. Knowledgeable and attentive staff. The presentation of the courses was actually art; presented with such precision one might not want to ruin it by eating it! Overall, a tremendous dining experience. Highly recommend. Bravo!
Nice food and atmosphere
Food is good but not worth what it is priced
Always a great spot to eat
This place is just simply amazing! The welcome and friendly staff, and my waitress Emily, made me feel welcome and took the time to explain the options. When I revived the starter, I was impressed with the speed, presentation and the quality yum yum! My main course was as inspiring and I d come here again from Ontario with my gorgeous fiancé and surprise her with the reason why being a Canadian, especially in the Maritime is a little secret, but a big joy not to be passed bye in this life time!
I am never disappointed when I dine here. The food is delicious. The staff are wonderful about managing food allergies too.
Wonderful food.
Phenomenal food. Excellent service.
Super good food. Portion was 1/10th too small still. I mean I get fine dinning. But it was lunch. And it was just not quite enough. Flavor was deep on the FOS. Right on the edge. Really good. Service excellent.
Fine dining in a relaxed atmosphere. And not to pricey.
Food was really good. Service was good too. Portion was a little small for a $36 entrée. We got dessert too and it was fabulous and quite big for just $8. The portions just deem to be a little inconsistent. I think without dessert we would have left hungry. Overall good experience though.
Fantastic service and food, smallish space but worth the trip. Great portions and fresh produce used for salads and mains.
Best restaurant in Saint John! Innovative and delicious!
We went for burger week and got to ECB Big Macs. They were delicious, and did not disappoint. Ive heard their regular ECB burger is delicious, and after burger week, well definitely be back to give them a try.
Lovely place for a casual dinner.
Best meal in St John. Excellent menu and perfectly executed dishes. High attention to detail and great flavor profiles. The salmon was cooked perfectly and married with bold flavors that were to die for. Id eat here every day if I could.
Great options for lunch and dinner. Service is impeccable. Burger Week here is always on point.
Very good food
The service was excellent and we appreciated that there were Quebec products on the menu and even a Quebec beer! I ordered two starters thinking the portions would be small but was surprised by the amount of food in each dish. As a Quebecer, I approve of your poutine!!
Great food and service! A kitchen that understands how to serve and present their creations.
Delicious! We had the Coconut Curry Lentil Soup and the Tofu Pakora, both were delicious! The customer service was very good. The decor is very pleasant. Very clean atmosphere.
The food was decent but nothing spectacular. Service was rapid and friendly. We would have been happy with our experience had it not been so expensive -
Awesome food
Solid canadian food. Noted specials can be a little $$$$.
Place was dead and we still got refused service and turned away. I can see if it was busy that theyd enforce the reservation required rule but it was empty. I cant see why there would even be such rule being a stop for tourists, like is it to do a background check on the customer to see if their good enough for their establishment ? Or maybe if we were dressed fancy instead of wearing our tourist clothes we wouldve gotten served.
Terrible experience. We were given a gift card for the restaurant, but it took almost 2 years for our first visit. When my wife and daughter tried to pay for lunch, the gift card was rejected... the server claimed the card was used months earlier on an evening when we were nowhere near the place, with items in the receipt that wed never order Seems the restaurant or servers scans for old, unused gift cards and either fakes orders or treats friends. Not interested in eating food from a restaurant with such poor ethics.
It was the best tofu I have had in my 30 years a vegetarian. Outstanding.
Fantastic food. Will be coming back many more times.
Slow serving even for fine dining. Steak was tough and full of fat. Too many fries. Poor experience.
Every bit as good as its reputation.
Brilliant every time
Oh my gosh. Legit one of the only pure 5 star restaurants in this city. Also, give Kyle a raise or promotion.
Exceptional.
Excellent food at a good price for level of service and quality.
Great main course and delicious chick pea crusted tofu appetizers. Great service.
Great place to have an excellent family dinner. Service was good, presentation was great and the food was delicious. We were not served copious quantities, but rather an amount that did not leave one feeling bloated. The choices were many and varied, an altogether great evening.
Best burger in Saint John. Best burger Ive ever had! Amazing selection of food and desserts!
Outstanding meals and atmosphere. Dont be afraid to try the poutine & hamburger! Great raw oysters along with east coast specialities with a sophsiticated twist. Great for dates, groups and celebrations. Fun cocktail and dessert menu. The sticky toffee pudding is excellent.
Bad service, mediocre food. A place to be seen for a certain type of Saint Johner.
